I have 21 experience points. I spend some time practicing my dodging skills, renting time in a gym if they exist, or just privately practicing against my shadow or against Diego or Charles or somebody (footwork 2->3, 6 points). Then I go looking for somebody. Probably somebody in the seedy part of town. One regrets to admit it, but in Vodacce, we learn where to look for this kind of person if that is who is sought. There are people who, though technically participating in things that are against the law, are nevertheless not without a sense of honor -- when bought, they stay bought. I find one of these people, and persuade him with word and coin to teach me some of his skills, paying particular attention to the picking of locks and the skills of the street magician. (buy Criminal skill, 10 points; lockpicking 0->1, 2 points; prestidigitation 0->1, 2 points) I have 1 xp left. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Revised skills: Athlete: Footwork - 3 Pugilism: Footwork - 3 Criminal: Basic: Gambling - 1 Shadowing - 1 Stealth - 2 (inherited from Hunter) Advanced: Ambush - 0 Cheating - 0 Lockpicking - 1 Pickpocket - 0 Prestidigitation - 1 Quack - 0 Scrounging - 0 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I have, I guess, 1500 guilders from the pirate treasure. I convert 400 into senators (ie, Vodacce currency) and send them to my parents, asking them to take some to make an offering for me in the Church. I spend some time/money looking for a sect of Metheneme. If I can dig one up that seems legit, I see if there's some kind of anonymous offering I can make to their church, like ~150 guilders. I buy a change of clothes, nothing fancy, the same sturdy stuff I'm wearing now. But I buy a nice cloak, warm and well-stitched and slick-looking, maybe reversible to a drabber exterior. I buy a replacement for my crossbow, getting something well-crafted and quiet. I buy a bunch of quarrels for it. Then I buy some with special heads -- they list grappling quarrels in the equipment list, plus I figure I could get someone to make me quarrels with rope-cutting (ie, V-shaped, with the inner part of the V sharpened) heads, and maybe ones with a barbed prong on the end. Oh, and blunt-headed ones that won't pierce, just stun. Then I buy a bunch of knives. I hide some knives in my boots and so on, keep some in my belt and some in my cloak, and some stashed at home. I buy some lockpicks, and hide those in my belt or something. For the Syrne expedition, I buy a rope, some rations (for like a week), a couple changes of clothes, climbing gloves, firestarting kit, a lantern and some oil for it. Most of this stuff is in my backpack. With the remaining money, I see about setting up a safehouse or two in the area, maybe renting a room at an inn in the cheap part of town for a couple months in advance or whatever. I guess I hide most of the rest in my current lodgings, maybe converting it to some smaller form (are there notes of credit in Theah? or gold bars?). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 400 guilders to parents & as offering to Theus 150-200 guilders looking for Metheneme sect/offering to Metheneme (if I can't find it, I donate the amount to some kind of appropriate organization, an orphanage maybe) (~25 g) new set of travel clothes (~5 g) nice cloak (~15 g) crossbow (~2 g) 60 quarrels (~6 g) various special quarrels (60 g) 10 knives (10 g) lockpicks (1 g) 50-foot rope (1 g) rations (2 g) climbing gloves (2 g) lantern (1 g) lantern oil (1 g) firestarting kit (can't find a price for this, but) (15 g) safehouse, inn rental for a couple months Remaining: ~750g, hidden in current lodging, as gold bars or other larger chunks
