Butcher Dag Born in the western gladitorial arenas to a warrior queen and a burly hill-man, Dag would have been fed to the lions at birth had the guards not been surprised by his strength and tenacity, which were like no babe they had seen before. And Dag did not disappoint, growing into the master pit-fighter of the arena, where he was nicknamed 'Butcher' for the way he brought his opponents to the slaughter. But soon after reaching full manhood Dag decided that the arena was no place for a long-term career -- he had seen his parents both die to beasts in the arena -- and staged a break-out one night, killing four guards before escaping the city. Since then he has become a wanderer, but now he sates his lust for battle for his own benefit, not for an owner. Getting older he expanded his purview until he reached his present level of ability, and he makes his boast: "there's no crib that can't be cracked, no treasure that can't be taken, when Shadowcatch is on the scene." And indeed, with only a few exceptions (such as the Mad Baron Hyven's rather surprising wolfhounds), his words have proven true. A master of disguise, of stealth, of infiltration, and -- when necessary -- of assassination, Shadowcatch's journeys can be tracked only by the string of thefts that inevitably follow. Pity he can't keep from spending it all once it's got, but he travels better light anyway.
