Cast
Heatham Manor is a sprawling residence located perhaps a half-day's
train ride from London and somewhat nearer the small town of Market
Heatham. Living there, we have:
- Sir Gilford Mallory, Bart. (a Baronet, and lord of
the manor; about 60)
- Lady (Cynthia) Mallory (his wife; about 50)
- Mr. Edmund Mallory (their elder son; about 30)
- Mr. William Mallory (their younger son; about 23)
- Miss Hypatia Mallory (their daughter; about 26)
Currently visiting from London are a number of guests:
- Lord Barleyhew (a Baron, and prominent figure
among the Conservatives; about 50)
and a friend of Lord Barleyhew:
- Mr. George Chickering (an associate of Lord
Barleyhew's in the party; about 50)
- Mrs. Dorothy Chickering (his wife; about 45)
In addition, a neighbor of Sir Gilford is here for the hunting rather
than back at his own residence of Stretchley Court:
- Mr. Charles Reed (a neighbor; about 55)
- Miss Elizabeth Reed (his daughter; about 26)
Finally, of course there any any number of servants who are required
to make anything at all happen at Heatham Manor. Most are unlikely to
make much appearance in the narrative, but it might be useful to list
a few:
- Pondley (the butler; about 60)
- John (the gamekeeper; about 50)
- Jenny (a house-maid; about 25)
