Cyphers are one-shot items you can buy, discover, or scavenge, that come from old technology. They're supposed to be common, but they interfere with each other, so you can only carry a certain number around at one time. People with high Craft can carry more cyphers with them (understanding how to combat the interference) and also can find better cyphers when scavenging.

More powerful than cyphers are Artifacts: items which can be used several times before depleting. If you take an artifact as a Stunt, that means you've studied the item enough and have worked with it so that you know how to keep it in good repair.

Less powerful than cyphers are Oddities: items which do an odd thing, but have no mechanical benefit.
