The kelp is mined on schedule and carted off to the storage bins.

Dark Sobalis heads across the sargasso sea, where he discovers a dispute taking place on the edge of the whirlpools: it seems the turbulent waters are a good spot for finding Bottomless Pearls, but two groups of natives (one of which rides inside giant war-pufferfish, the other of which traditionally mount enormous sea stars) have come to blows over who has the ancestral right to the pearls.

Meanwhile, Raphael Helsing stumbles into a dangerous situation among the coral reefs. Vast metal tanks set into the reefs are used to hold and strain chemicals mixed in the nearby deep seas, but the tanks themselves are guarded by Gwyne's drones. As he is unable to give the proper passcodes, they switch to hostile mode, and begin filling their reservoirs from the acid tanks.

Back at the Empire, Lord McKinley Hereford Basinbloke VII goes to many, many dinner parties, and is occasionally even seen with a thoughtful look on his face.

Finally, the research institution completes its work. Tying in with Raphael's discovery, they present a plan for setting up a mining operation on the newly-discovered source for a mere 1 mega-credit ("once the minor issue of hostile drones are disposed of, but clearly that reduces to a previously-solved problem").
