Turn 6 - House Aramin

Previous turn: Turn 5

House Actions

  • Shipping: The StarFar Reigspress fills its empty cargo bays with Frozen Gas for the Canterina Sampler and continues on to ARS-232. We also request that the Vefna colonists allow us to send their cargo ship to Arroyo to pick up Hyperidot for the Canterina Sampler.
  • Fighting: [None]
  • Exploration: The StarLight Survey Squad explores hex L8 (rank-2 lake terrain). Rick explores hex O13 (rank-3 heavy jungle). Jude checks out the pumping station in person (with the goal of getting it up and running so we can see what it does).
  • Production: We produce 2 units of Unsorted Crystals from the Donbique Rule Crystal Farm in L10. We produce 1 unit of Metals from the Alshu Cup mine in N11. We produce 1 unit of Unsorted Crystals from the Starfarer Crystal Garden And Wilderness Preserve in P12.
  • Processing: We process 2 units of Unsorted Crystals and 1 unit of Metals into 1 unit of Energy Weapons (a rank-2 refined commodity). We also process 2 units of Unsorted Crystals and 1 unit of Industrial Kelp into 1 unit of Ndoggahyde (also a rank-2 refined commodity).
  • Research: We continue researching the mining applications of teleportation and the controlling-local-stuff applications of crystals and/or birds. Jude either assists with this or visits the pumping station (see below).
  • Building: [None]
  • Landing: The StarFar Reigspress returns home, dispensing its cargo and releasing its remaining homesteaders on Elvis. If permitted, the VefnaShip arrives at Arroyo.
  • Trading: [None]
  • Politics: The homesteaders request hexes and we approve or deny them. We vote 'aye' for Grazene and abstain on the rest (unless approached specifically for support). Reeve is investigated for possible support. We again put out the word that Elvis is accepting homesteaders.

Character Actions

  • Jude Farlight: Jude calls up Professor Winth at Shulin University. Particularly if Winth is an engineering-type professor. He also checks out the pumping station in person (with the goal of getting it up and running so we can see what it does).
  • Rick Starfarer: Rick explores hex O13 (rank-3 heavy jungle). He packs a lunch of sardine-paste sandwiches, roast beef-a-like sandwiches, and peanut butter and banana sandwiches. And a hyperpickle. His fortune cookie reads, "When you are squeezed, what comes out is what's inside."
  • Reig: Reig either organizes a group of three Jarou to do a crazy pretend-they're-one-person-then-split apart dance for Canterina, or, if Seve wants to do that, ingratiates himself into the Reeve social circles casually mentioning the fact that Gwynne would be totally pissed off if the colonies succeeded, since they were booted out so unceremoniously. (I guess this is sort of a FATE maneuver that can be tagged later by Dark?)

Results

Various mines produce things and process them into other things. Yet other things are shipped to other places (the Vefna colonists have no objection to the temporary loan of the cargo ship, but Reig is obliged to send half his crew to pilot it, as the colonists are spread too thin to actually crew it themselves).

The StarLight Survey Squad explores the lake in L8 and finds it goes much deeper than might be suspected by looking at the surface -- there is a whole network of underground flooded tunnels leading under the edge of the meadow that no doubt would bear further investigation. Rick stumbles into a nest of giant constrictor vines; everything is just starting to go black when his pack shatters, releasing the remains of his peanut butter and banana sandwiches onto the vines, which (fortunately) they turn out to be extremely allergic to and wilt away from, allowing him to extricate himself. This teaches him some valuable lessons about controlling the local plantlife, which he passes on to the research team.

Jude, meanwhile, puts on a snorkel and checks out the pumping station. He spends the turn working out some prototypes and then supervising a team to do repairs, with the result that at the end, there is a working pumping station in M9. If activated, it would turn M9 into a swamp or marsh, and conversely turn N9 into a lake. The purpose behind this is still unclear, however.

Reig spends his time training up a crew of elite dancers.

Finally, the research team finishes their combined research. The group working on mining applications reports they have found a way to work teleportation into the design of excavation-type producers; this makes them both cheaper to make (units of Fancy Crystals may each replace 5 mega-credits of the cost of the mine) and no longer requires them to be connected to the main colony by explored hexes to produce. The group working on plant control reports that they have identified a number of promising specimens, and think that they can be used to produce 4 rank-1 military units for 1 mega-credit each, or 2 rank-2 military units for 4 mega-credits each.
