How detailed is this ruler-like thing?  Could Aernoud find some paper and quickly trace the runes and markings in a minute or two?  I'm picturing something with maybe a dozen or so major markings and fairly simple runes, vs. something with dozens of tiny detailed symbols or the like.

Revision as of 12:41, 24 June 2013

[LowEstate]/Sun 09:08 Jota asks (of inky), "If you happen to recap: for Willem wondering if he recognized the artisan woman, should I be rolling something? Like Community or whatever?"

[LowEstate]|Sun 09:17 Jota says, "(If you don't happen to recap, feel free to disregard this message.)"

[LowEstate]/18:37 Jota says, "I see that inky did not happen to recap."

[LowEstate]|18:41 inky recaps now

[LowEstate]|18:42 inky says, "I don't think anyone in the group has any particular connection with craftspeople"

[LowEstate]|18:43 inky says, "so I am inclined to say that nobody recognizes her unless they want to spend a fate point to say that they do"

[LowEstate]|18:43 Jota nods.

[LowEstate]|18:44 Jota says, "Then I suppose we will see if josh wants to."

[LowEstate]|18:45 inky asks, "also, this thing Willem is trying to notice at the moment, do you think identifying magic cast on/near you is part of his training, and if so, how good is he at it?"

[LowEstate]|18:46 Jota says, "That is a very good question."

[LowEstate]|18:47 inky says, "if you feel like it's part of the curriculum but not a particular area of focus of his, then it seems like we should do an academics roll to see how many questions you can ask about it"

[LowEstate]|18:47 Jota says, "As for the first part of the question, I would say that whether or not it was part of his training specifically, it seems like it would be something you would pick up on naturally just being around a lot of magic happening."

[LowEstate]|18:47 inky says, "yeah"

[LowEstate]|18:48 Jota says, "So (again, for part one) it is probably not something that Willem has probably had specific training, but rather something that he theoretically should be expected to have picked up anyway."

[LowEstate]|18:48 Jota says, "But whether or not he *has* picked it up is a different question."

[LowEstate]|18:48 inky says, "hmm"

[LowEstate]|18:49 Jota says, "But given the idea of it possibly being a thing you just sort of pick up by being around it, it seems plausible that his Community (Academics) might be a plausible measure of how well he's picked it up."

[LowEstate]|18:49 inky says, "hmm, that is an interesting idea"

[LowEstate]|18:49 Jota says, "I.e., how much exposure he's had to other students doing magic, and to different faculty members' magical styles, etc."

[LowEstate]|18:49 inky says, "and in some sense magical analysis is a social interactin with the other person doing the magic and seeing what cues you pick up"

[LowEstate]|18:50 inky says, "ok, I will buy that"

[LowEstate]|18:50 Jota says, "OK. I'll roll it, then."
