Having dispatched the upstairs goons, the group heads downstairs to find an actual map laid out (goodness) and a curtain of fire and electricity blocking access to the next room. Everyone cautiously went downstairs... and triggered a fire trap which catches a couple of the group in its blast. Garnet dashes for safety on the other side of the fire curtain, discovering a huge group of fire mages all arrayed against her. Her cry of astonishment brings Zahra escaping through the curtain, too, and together they start attacking the bad guys on the other side--including Faith, the air mage from chapter 4. Meanwhile, the rest of the group pokes around in the hallway, with Sejik checking out a side room and discovering a few Elf alchemists, Indigo keeping up a rear guard, Aescher creating a wind tunnel through the fire, and Hark charging through it.

Hark's charge through the fire curtain makes his magical sword red-hot, so he tosses it at a fire mage and fights on with one of his (many) other swords instead.

After taking a fair amount of damage and spending some fate points, the room is finally replete with dead or knocked-out fire mages, and the stairs behind them are on fire, blocking escape but also blocking more mooks from joining them below. What's behind the double doors out of the room? We'll find out next week!
