Turn 6

House Actions

Shipping: The cargo ship returns to Hrobaj.

Exploration: the First Hrobaj Cadet Scouts explore I8. The Geoleverage Assessment Taskforce explore I17 and the adjoining waters of J16.

Production: food plant at J13 produces 2 units of Indecent Polyps. The corn maze produces 1 unit of Savage Corn.

Processing: none.

Research: the Tomorrow Institute completes its research.

Building: an Advanced Research Institution, Katlian College of Violent Arts and Sciences, is established amid the scenic woodland of H14. (Motto: E orbita nucleunt; solum certum est.) In addition to an attractive undergraduate prospectus, a nuclear-hardened library and a tenure track benevolently indifferent to atrocity records, UKat boasts an informal, counterculture-styled approach to military technology research. And the universe's most pedantic re-enactment society.

Landing: The cargo ship lands on Hrobaj, and is promptly swamped by colonists who have received no mail for three months.

Trade: One unit of Savage Corn and one of Food is set aside for bribing House Canterina.

Character Actions

Elaine uses the groundbreaking ceremony of Katlian College as an excuse to quietly buttonhole selected colleagues of Professor Winth about what these rumours actually involve. If his contact details can be extracted without a formal request for them on the record, so much the better.

Jathries works on the Grazene Homesteading bill, attempting to trade a Yes vote for a rider that shifts some of the tax breaks into a general reduction for likely colonists, rather than as a reward for those that actually colonize.

Results

The appropriate amount of Food and Savage Corn are produced and added to the colony's stockpiles (and then two are set aside for Canterina). Katlian College is constructed to much acclaim for 6 mega-credits.

The First Hrobaj Cadet Scouts explore I8, finding nothing but some insight into what they really want to accomplish in life. The experience increases them to rank 2. Meanwhile, the Geoleverage Assessment Taskforce run afoul of another boobytrapped Gwyne cache in I17; they don't manage to retrieve any useful information as such, but they do manage to retrieve some pieces of the wreckage clearly stamped 'House Gwyne', which can only assist the Tomorrow Institute in its efforts. Undaunted by their injuries, they continue to J16, where they discover the waters hold the remains of massive concrete dikes, presumably designed to force back the edge of the water.

The Tomorrow Institute finishes up its focus groups, and ships off a series of carefully-tuned rumors, innuendos, and powerpoints to its contacts in the Empire. Within a few days, rumors about Gwyne are starting to drift around Imperial cocktail parties.

Jathries and Elaine work privately on their respective missions. Elaine attempts to make contact with Professor Winth, only to discover that he has suddenly gone on vacation, leaving no forwarding address. So instead she explores hex K13, where she discovers something rather unusual: a vast stone dome, intricately carved and mostly buried in the bed of the ocean.
