With Zahra still twitching, the group continued wandering through the Red Room, slowly figuring out the 'logic' of the place. After Hark threatened some spirits which turned out to probably be dream-projections of some madmen, the group figured out how to use the eye jars to get where they wanted, and found the 'lab in the heart', a place where magic could be crafted without the usual ingredients, where Aescher made some fire-resistance potions and a mystical 'sunscreen' for Zahra, as well as discovering the three metal discs secreted there. With some effort, Indigo, Aescher, and Sejik managed to translate the discs. Their translations (including errors as they appear on the discs) are:

  • The first disc:

AS WE MADE THE FINAL APPROACH
THE POWERFUL MAGICS THAT PROTECTUL
US NEARED THEIR BREAKING POINT JUST AS WE
FEARED WE FEARED WE WOULD BE OVERCOME
THERE IT WAS BLACK AGAINST THE SUN
BUT ONLY BY COMPATISON THE INFERNO
OF THE FIERY HALL WAS STILL NEARLY

  • The second disc:

The group also managed to meet the Xaositect spy, who gave them a small chess piece, telling them it was the key to opening the gate to the Fiery Hall. He also cautioned them that the seven spokes brought destruction, but that he hoped he had stopped it with 'life'.

From here, the group got one of the dreaming shades to tell them how to operate the eye jar, which led them towards the exit room: another floating mirror with a statue of a dwarf. Tipping over the dwarf to put it 'to rest', the mirror became a portal back to the Salt Tower, and, chess piece in hand, they went back.
