Planescape: Fallout/The story so far/Session one
Five of the characters are summoned to the office of Losil, a governmental flunky, and asked to save the ‘sun’: the island of fire that lights the other islands in its orbit, and helps the crops grow. There was a contingency plan for this, fortunately, and they were given two pyramids, and told to attune one to the fire island itself, whereupon the second would become more and more attuned the closer it got along a portal path to a similar section of the elemental plane of fire. There was one portal out of Web, hidden from common knowledge, on the island of Amwal. Unfortunately, nobody could remember which island was ‘Amwal’ any more. The portal reportedly opens for a brief period every two days.
Zahra turned up the charm, and Losil revealed to her (privately) that the document also mentioned that a Shad should be brought along for help opening… something… on the other side of the portal. Hark and Aescher took off flying to see if they could pinpoint the location of the portal Hark came through when he came into Web, and narrowed it down to a few options. Garnet took off for the library, found where an old Census book should have been, but… no book. She tracked down where it had last been checked out (~200 years ago) and found it was now in a rather seedy area of town (in Troit). Everyone gathered together to go there to find the book.
The building where the book had been checked out from turned out to be guarded by a couple toughs who didn’t want to leave. So while Hark and Indigo distracted the group by fighting them, the rest of the group (all of whom could fly and/or leap) broke into an 11th story window and from there to the apartment where the book had been checked out. They broke in on an old woman and a young man, who, it seemed, were trafficking illegal herbs used for dark magic rituals—and the woman had been using a dark ritual of her own to keep herself alive for a few hundred years, and was in fact the person who had checked out the book in the first place!
While Garnet discovered the book from its hiding place under the floorboards in a back room, Zahra and Aescher got the story out of her: the criminal group she had been a member of years ago had decided that isolation was the way to go, and that Web should not ever re-open its one portal to the rest of the planes. It therefore began a systematic removal of all information about the portal and the island it was on… which turns out to be the prison island today. The man she knew who was the brains behind the operation would have died many years ago, but his gang, the Crimson Hawks, still operates out of the Bricks.
From there, Aescher went to go find Sejik… but nobody knew where he was, though one remembered he was going to meet someone in the Bricks about something. Garnet checked in at the police force blotters, and found that someone had reported what seemed to them to be a Shad kidnapping in the Bricks. In general, there had been a flurry of activity three days ago, and then again one day ago, when the kidnapping was reported.
