[aboveground] Maxwell asks (of GM), "That's it?"

[aboveground] Maxwell says, "murdered servant."

Eolo asks (of Marquis), "I think it might be time to be a little more open with us, hmm?"

[aboveground] Eolo says, "big bloodstain in the shape of the trident"

[aboveground] Marmelade says, "Yeah, but the actual question we asked."

Maxwell asks, "What, not even whomever the knights are protecting you from?"

Marquis says, "The blood drawing the trident is different from the maid's blood."

Maxwell glances to the top of the doorframe.

[aboveground] BastardJack asks, "Is there a knight around?"

Marquis says, "Well, to be honest, I was suspecting some open treachery. I had the knights scouring the nearby area for enemy agents."

GameMaster says, "knights downstairs"

[aboveground] DiegoValdez says, "Yes. He's in the dining room with me, partaking of a little wine."

BastardJack steps outside and walks quickly downstairs, almost at a run.

GameMaster says (to Maxwell), "doorframe not changed"

BastardJack finds a knight.

DiegoValdez is chatting with the knight about fencing techniques and that sort of thing.

GameMaster says, "BastardJack finds Diego chatting with a knight"

DiegoValdez asks (of Jack), "Eh? Is something wrong?"

Maxwell asks, "Whose blood could it be then? Is it human?"

Maxwell looks at the marking himself.

Marquis says, "I don't know...possibly not..."

BastardJack walks up and says, in a low voice, "There's been a murder."

GameMaster asks (of Maxwell), "do you have examiner?"

[aboveground] Maxwell says, "no"

BastardJack says (to Knight), "Please keep this quiet..."

Eolo says, "mm"

DiegoValdez asks (of Jack), "What? Who? Where?"

BastardJack asks, "...but detain all the guests. How many of you are there?"

[aboveground] Marmelade asks, "Does this room have a balcony?"

Marquis says (to Maxwell), "do a straight resolve"

Marquis says, "In any case, it is good that not everyone came that was supposed to...I suspect the rain."

Giovanna looks for clues

BastardJack puts a bit of emphasis on the word 'upstairs', hoping Diego will catch it.

DiegoValdez nods. "Time to change into more practical clothing, I think."

GameMaster says, "perception"

Giovanna gives Eolo an evil stare.

BastardJack turns around and starts poking around, finding out where all the guests are.

Eolo asks, "nobody's touched the body recently? or the balcony?"

[aboveground] DiegoValdez says (to Jack), "Looks like he's checking with the Marquis before following your orders."

Marquis says, "No...it might be interesting to see who wants to leave."

Marquis says, "Just keep an eye on anyone who desires to leave early."

GameMaster says, "Knight says, "Very good, sir."

GameMaster says, "Knight goes"

[aboveground] Eolo asks, "there's a pile of vomit in the room also, isn't there?"

[aboveground] Maxwell says, "No, gruenwald is downstairs in the couch room."

Marmelade turns to look at the drawing.

[aboveground] BastardJack says, "Also, I thought I was the one who led people to the body (not the salon). So I guess I didn't actually know about the murder yet."

DiegoValdez picks up the cat.

Marquis says (to Maxwell), "these damned threats in the form of these shapes, of course."

Marmelade asks, "Mrow?"

[aboveground] BastardJack asks, "Anyway, I'm in the ballroom now. Is everyone else in the murder room?"

Eolo asks (of Marquis), "that's all?"

Eolo asks (of Marquis), "and you have no idea who could be doing it, or why?"

Marquis says, "And, as I said, they came up shortly after I foolishly showed the talon to everyone important in the province."

Marmelade rubs his nose against Diego's chin.

Marquis says, "Also...that cat..."

Marquis says, "He seems unusually...clever."

BastardJack seeing the knights have been alerted and are watching the guests in the ballroom, heads back to the salon to check on Gruenwald.

Marquis says, "As in the incident with Ferenc. And the meowing just recently."

Marmelade purrs, rubs Diego again.

DiegoValdez says (to Marquis), "Cats are always unusually intelligent, senor."

GameMaster says (to BastardJack), "he's sleeping, but every once in a while he makes coughing noises and his face looks green/yellowish"

DiegoValdez says (to Marquis), "M'sieur Ferenc had just tried to kill it, after all."

Maxwell says, "Perhaps we can converse in the hall? I haven't seen anything worth further inspection here, and the smell is getting to me."

Marquis says, "But not...this...intelligent.."

Marquis pets Marmelade

[Crows-Nest] TableSaw says, "Although let us Below-grounders know if you need us to leave, otherwise no spoilers."

Marmelade arches his back happily.

Marquis says, "Yes, I'd rather get out of this environment. I'll leave it a little more and then have Pierre clean up."

Giovanna gratefully takes the suggestion of leaving the room, and goes out where there is clearer air

Eolo steps out into the hall.

Maxwell steps out.

Marquis says (to Giovanna), "Are you all right, m'lady? I'm afraid this has been a dreadful business all around."

DiegoValdez says, "I should change into something a little more practical. And find Brother Cadiz ... if there's a murderer on the loose, someone must warn him."

DiegoValdez steps into the hall and walks towards the bedrooms.

Marquis says, "Hm...actually, I do believe I know the nature of your little critter here..."

Maxwell says (to Marquis), "I meant to mention before this -- Herr Gruenwald was looking rather ill just now."

Maxwell looks at the cat. "What?"

Giovanna says (to Marquis), "i'll be all right. There are far more important things before us than my having the vapors"

Marquis says, "Yes, Pierre has told me. I've been harried and haven't had a chance to look at him. I'll change clothing and come down and have a look."

Marmelade asks, "Mrow?"

Eolo asks (of Marquis), "has Gruenwald been here before?"

Marquis says, "Also, where is Diego? I have something I want to lend him..."

Marquis says, "No, this is his first visit."

DiegoValdez is walking up the hall from the murder room to the bedrooms, with Marmelade in his arms.

Marmelade purrs.

Eolo asks, "why did he come here? is he a friend of Ian's?"

Marquis says, "Business partner, at the moment."

Marquis says, "And Macmillan is some sort of temporary partner for a new deal. I don't know the details."

Maxwell goes to his own room, to change out of his wet clothes.

Marquis walks to get changed

DiegoValdez knocks on Cadiz' door.

Marquis says, "(west hall, goes north)"

Eolo frowns.

Marmelade exclaims (at Diego), "Mrow!"

Marmelade jumps down.

Eolo says, "hardly a coincidence, I think."

[7thsea] Maxwell says (to Diego), "This is too good."

[7thsea] Maxwell says, "oops"

DiegoValdez frowns. Knocks again. "Senor Cadiz?"

Marquis exits again with fresh clothing. He's also carrying a sword.

Marmelade heads downstairs to find Jack.

Maxwell pauses.

Marquis asks, "I saw Diego pass by...where..?"

Maxwell asks (of Diego), "Is something the matter?"

Marquis notes Diego's voice on the other end of the hall and walks that way

DiegoValdez knocks a little more loudly. "Either the good Brother sleeps like the dead or ... I fear much worse."

Marquis says, "Ah. Diego. I have something to lend you."

DiegoValdez asks (of Marquis), "Si?"

Marquis says, "This sword....you may recognize it."

Marmelade finds Jack in the ballroom.

DiegoValdez looks at the sword.

Marquis says, "It's the one from the artifact room."

Marmelade asks (of Jack), "(quietly) Mrow?"

Eolo raises an eyebrow.

Marquis says, "Although, presently both the claw and the sword have facimiles in the artifact room to guard against theft."

Marquis says, "This here is the real sword."

Eolo asks, "the claw is not in the artifact room?"

DiegoValdez says, "Ah! I see...."

Marquis says, "It's safely in a box in my study. Now..."

Giovanna asks (of Marquis), "and where is the real claw?"

Giovanna says, "ah"

Eolo asks, "are you sure?"

Giovanna asks, "you're certain?"

Marquis says, "I was just there to retrieve the sword."

BastardJack picks up Marmelade and idly strokes him.

Eolo says, "mm"

[aboveground] Marmelade asks (of Jack), "You awake?"

DiegoValdez asks (of Marquis), "You wish for me to wield this?"

Marquis says (to Diego), "Now, this sword...it has a special...feature to it."

Marquis asks, "I don't suppose you've heard of the Puzzle Sword?"

BastardJack whispers, "Do Gruenwald's Eisen friends know of his condition?"

Marquis says, "(Swords)"

[aboveground] DiegoValdez exclaims, "Wooooo!! Puzzle sword!!"

[aboveground] BastardJack says (to Marmelade), "Also, I'm in the salon."

Marquis says, "You'll notice that it looks quite new....although I assure you it is quite old."

Marmelade looks around the ballroom, doesn't see Jack.

DiegoValdez says, "I have heard rumours among the guilds...."

BastardJack returns to the ballroom, still holding the cat.

Marquis says, "Also, on the end here...this knob..."

Marquis shows Diego

DiegoValdez looks attentively.

Marquis says, "Don't turn it yet."

DiegoValdez asks, "What does it do?"

Marquis says, "If you are about to make a strike...and you feel confident...and it's *important*..."

Giovanna murmurs to Eolo, "It looks Vodacce!"

Marquis says, "Turn the knob before striking."

[aboveground] BastardJack says (to Marmelade), "Just transmute "...finds Jack in the ballroom..." to "...finds Jack in the Salon...""

Marquis says (to Diego), "It puts a little...extra...into your swing."

Marmelade, as Jack walks by the stairs, jumps down from his arms, and goes a couple steps up.

Marquis hands Diego the sword.

Marmelade asks (of Jack), "Mrow?"

Eolo asks (of Giovanna), "are not all puzzles?"

[aboveground] Maxwell asks, "Wait, it's not Syrne?"

BastardJack looks at Marmelade, then towards the ballroom.

Giovanna says (to Eolo), "All the best ones, certainly."

DiegoValdez bows and takes the sword reverently. "Gracias. Merci. You are too kind."

Marmelade settles down on the stair.

[aboveground] GameMaster asks, "is there anyone who would know about puzzle swords ic?"

[aboveground] GameMaster says, "they can answer maxwell then"

BastardJack starts up the stairs. "All right, but it best be important."

Marquis says, "I'm afraid my sword skill isn't up to par."

Marquis says, "I'm sure you can make better use of it."

Maxwell says, "hm. Syrne artifacts. But we were worried about our friend here..."

DiegoValdez says (to Max), "I have heard rumours of such swords ... swords with special features built into them."

Maxwell tries Cadiz' door.

BastardJack arrives at the top of the stairs to see Maxwell at the door.

Marmelade heads to the hallway, looks at the people trying to open his door, looks back at Jack.

Marquis says, "Now, I need to check on Gruenwald. Also, the play will certainly be starting soon, so I'd appreciate you'd make your way to the ballroom fairly soon so you can keep a close eye on the spectators."

BastardJack says, "Don't ye worry - I just spoke with him."

[aboveground] Maxwell says, "Diego is quite close too."

DiegoValdez says (to Max), "They're not Syrneth ... One rumour talks about a pair of Montaigne lovers ... another about an ancient master...."

Eolo frowns.

DiegoValdez says (to Marquis), "Of course."

Marquis takes off downstairs

Giovanna asks, "a murder has taken place... and a fight, and madness... and we're to watch a play?"

DiegoValdez asks (of Giovanna), "Of course. There's nothing else we can do, is there?"

BastardJack says, "He's still a bit ill - he's in another room, as a bit o' protection."

DiegoValdez says (to Giovanna), "If the murderer should attempt to leave ... well, then we'll know."

Maxwell says (to Giovanna), "I think it would benefit us to watch the guests."

Giovanna says (to DiegoValdez), "perhaps not-- but..."

Eolo says, "I dislike being led around the Marquis with my blindfold on. But it appears the show must go on."

Giovanna shrugs delicately and follows the Marquis downstairs.

Maxwell says (to Jack), "Ah. That's a relief, then."

Maxwell goes to change his clothes quickly.

Eolo returns to his room briefly, retests his blades, and continues down.

DiegoValdez comes from a country that thinks nothing of having wedding celebrations just across the hill from a bloody warfield. Sees no problem in this.

BastardJack says, "I'll follow in a moment," and heads for his own room, keeping an eye on the cat.

Marquis returns upstairs

DiegoValdez frowns at Cadiz' door again, then shrugs and goes to his room. Changes into his usual swordsman-type clothes, because they're easier to manouevre around in.

BastardJack pauses just inside his door until the others have cleared the hall.

Marquis asks, "Where is the cat?"

Marmelade asks (of Marquis), "Mrow?"

Marmelade enters Jack's room.

Giovanna has disconnected.

Marquis says (to Marmelade), "Ah, there you are. I could use some assistance. Animal instinct and all that."

Maxwell heads down to the ballroom.

DiegoValdez wears his swordsman's pin this time.

Marmelade slips back out, and follows the Marquis.

BastardJack looks around, sighs in exasperation, and locks his room again.

Marmelade looks back at Jack, quickly, just to make sure.

Marquis goes down again and into the salon

Marmelade follows.

GameMaster says, "ballroom: music has stopped for now, just some background chattering"

Eolo takes his prior seat.

GameMaster says, "Eyer is telling some sort of joke"

BastardJack enters the ballroom, and looks for the Eisen.

DiegoValdez trots back downstairs.

GameMaster says, "Ian is talking with Lady Marion"

GameMaster says, "An actor, male -- the one you saw at the door before -- comes out from behind the curtain"

[aboveground] Maxwell says, "Eyer says, "No, you were getting too close to my price.""

DiegoValdez steps into the ballroom, looks around, then quickly goes for his seat.

[aboveground] BastardJack says, "Play starting? Damn."

GameMaster says, "Eyer stops telling his joke about the monkey and the llama"

BastardJack leans over and says, "You should know, sir, that your countryman has taken sick."

GameMaster says, "He's holding a tambourine"

[aboveground] Maxwell says, "Maxwell's seat is near the back."

DiegoValdez settles down and watches the actor.

[aboveground] Maxwell says, "er, out loud"

GameMaster says, "We'd like to begin our performance now. I remind you to restrain yourself from throwing food until after everything is finished."

Maxwell pretends to watch the show, but is more focused on the audience at first.

BastardJack says, "Oh, they're starting. Well, he's fine for now - resting in the salon. You should perhaps check on him after the performance."

GameMaster says, "Also, one of our actors has taken in sick, so we'll be going with only two people. We'll work things out, don't you worry."

Eolo frowns.

DiegoValdez raises an eyebrow.

BastardJack pats MacMillan's arm. "I'll just inform Ian."

Eolo murmurs "a pair of non-coincidences. shall we make it three?"

GameMaster says, "Actor begins shaking tambourine"

GameMaster says, "Another actor walks out..."

GameMaster says, "Same type of costume, and relatively the same height"

[aboveground] DiegoValdez says, "Time to Cold Read the actors."

GameMaster says, "(everyone in audience is watching attentively now)"

BastardJack moves quickly across and, by whispering the same message to Ian, attempts to get a seat between him and Lady Marion.

GameMaster says, "Other actor shakes tamborine abit and starts to give menacing stares"

GameMaster says, "Second actor blithely keeps skipping away"

GameMaster says, "First shakes the tambourine some more"

Maxwell chuckles softly, wondering if this is supposed to be the comedy part yet.

GameMaster says, "Second stops at edge of stage and looks around. First spots."

BastardJack watches Ian on the one side, and Lady MacMillan on the other, with a bit of attention left over for the rest of the room.

GameMaster says, "First leaps at second while second is still unawares and is miming whistling"

[aboveground] Marmelade asks (of GameMaster), "s/spots/stops?"

GameMaster says, "Second leaps ferociously at first as first steps aside"

GameMaster says, "er, other way"

GameMaster says, "first leaps at seocnd"

GameMaster says, "First falls off the stage and rolls onto his back"

GameMaster says, "Also, for ease of my sanity: I'll call the first one Bob and the second one Goldilocks"

DiegoValdez chuckles.

[aboveground] Marmelade says, "I hope it will not be inappropriate for me to remind people that the marquis had asked us to watch people's reactions during this bit."

BastardJack manages to brush quite closely against Lady Marion as he sits, and sneaks a glance at her face as he turns to murmur an apology.

GameMaster says, "Bob gets up again and looks furious"

[aboveground] Maxwell says, "somehow I think this isn't the right bit for that yet."

GameMaster says, "Goldilocks keeps hopping and seems to be miming sniffing a flower"

GameMaster says (to BastardJack), "straight wits, I guess"

GameMaster asks, "is anyone else examining someone specific?"

Giovanna glances after the Marquis

[belowground] Eolo says, "given all that's been said, it seems we would be best off leaving the manor immediately."

Marquis heads to the salon

GameMaster says, "Bob jumps at goldilocks again, goldilocks ducks"

Bjorg remembers the deal, and lets Federico handle the diplomacy.

DiegoValdez says (to Marquis), "Senor, these are the missing friends we told you about."

Marquis says, "Ah. You are the expedition."

Eolo says (to Federico), "I don't believe we had gotten to that part of the story -- only about the mysterious demons with glowing eyes."

Giovanna murmurs to Maxwell, "my attention has been -- scattered this evening. But I'm concered.."

CharlesAlgun fidgits slightly, watching Federico.

Marquis asks, "Where's Umberto?"

Federico says (to Marquis), "We apologize for our surreptitious entrance, but we have been rather put out by recent events, we were hoping to be able to speak to you."

Giovanna gets up and goes upstairs looking for everyone else.

Maxwell stays put, not wanting to leave the guests unwatched just yet.

[7thsea] CharlesAlgun says, "(We're all in this room still, right?)"

DiegoValdez says, "I'm going downstairs. Everyone there is in danger. Well, maybe except one."

Pyotr studies the Marquis' face.

BastardJack shoots a glare after her as she leaves him alone with all these people. Well, someone's gotta stay.

GameMaster says, "There's a <schupp> sound from behind the curtain"

Bjorg turns towards the sound.

[aboveground] Maxwell asks, "The sound we heard before?"

CharlesAlgun looks at the Marquis.

Federico says (to Marquis), "The one in question abandoned us within the caves while we slept, we do not know where he went. We found no trace of him, we can only assume that he absconded from the area through magic, or on his own bandy legs."

GameMaster says, "same sound"

DiegoValdez hurries downstairs, right past Giovanna and back towards the ballroom.

[7thsea] CharlesAlgun asks, "Which curtain?"

Era_Khar'Kov fidgets a little, waiting for Federico's reply.

[7thsea] CharlesAlgun asks, "Downstairs or up here?"

Marquis asks, "Ah...I presume he made off with...the artifacts you found at that point?"

[7thsea] Maxwell says, "On the stage downstairs."

Giovanna blinks, having a hard time understanding what has happened, but relieved to see the others again.

[7thsea] Bjorg says, "oh, ok"

Federico says (to Marquis), "He did. He seemed very excited about them. Presumably he knew something about them."

CharlesAlgun glances at Giovanna's entry, and smiles.

[aboveground] Marmelade says, "The <schupp> sound was indeed like the sound we had heard before, yes."

DiegoValdez enters the ballroom and slides quickly into a seat next to Jack.

Marquis says, "A very interesting exit, since I know he's not a Porte magician. I'm not sure what trick he pulled."

[aboveground] Marmelade says, "But only those in the ballroom heard it."

DiegoValdez asks (of Jack), "Quick ... how are your thumbs?"

BastardJack frowns at Diege and whispers, "Where is everybody?"

Maxwell looks to Diego.

Eolo says (to Marquis), "perhaps he is in league with one of your neighbors. Surely one of them must employ a porte mage or two."

Federico says (to Marquis), "He could have used the same exit thatwe used. Or perhaps he has an accomplice, paid to retrieve him at a designated time."

BastardJack snaps, "Fine."

Giovanna says, "I noticed that Marion was not looking happy with the way the play was going."

Marquis says, "Hm...probably the second."

DiegoValdez says (to Jack), "Back. Charles, Bjorg, Era ... they're all upstairs. Sans Umberto. But they're safe. They say the Sidhe are going to destroy the manor."

Eolo says (to Giovanna), "clearly, any woman who could resist my charms must be up to no good."

Federico says, "A simple affair, Take a blooded pin in one's pack. Remove it atnight, and allow the accomplice to arrive and withdraw with him."

Giovanna says (to Eolo), "On those terms you must be very suspicious of everyone you meet."

Bjorg chuckles. Ah, same old Eolo.

BastardJack asks, "I... what? Back? How?"

DiegoValdez casts a sharp glance in MacMillan's direction.

Marquis says, "I'll just let you know -- although it's too late now -- every single trap you came across, he probably knew about. He's one of the best experts in the world, apparently."

Eolo says, "perhaps we should go down and meet up with the others. they will no doubt be glad to see who has returned."

Giovanna whispers (to Eolo), "I don't see Pyotr--"

Maxwell moves to hear Diego and Jack more easily, but not so near it's obvious they're conferring.

BastardJack stands and wovesn away from Ian and the lady before he answers.

Pyotr edges about to talk to Giovanna.

Eolo murmurs (to Charles) "an excellent suggestion."

BastardJack says, "I doubt it. I've been looking for signs since the strange warks began to show, and found nothing I could be sure of."

Federico says (to Marquis), "But sir, we must not be allowed to distract you from your evenings entertainment, we should repair to a more comfortable arena."

Eolo leads Charles and any others downstairs, to Ferenc's closet

Bjorg notices Charles conferring with Eolo, and moves closer to listen.

Giovanna says to Pyotr, "Missing? How could he be involved in this?

[7thsea] Bjorg asks, "did Eolo mention yet where the murder-scene room is? was it upstairs?"

Eolo says, "but -- a many-generations descended relative of someone involved in the story is visiting the manor tonight for the first time"

CharlesAlgun laughs (to Bjorg), "Where do you get your stories?"

DiegoValdez says (to Maxwell), "(whispering) We watch the people who may have Avalon connections. In other words, M'sieur MacMillan. Unless you can honestly tell me that MacMillan is an honest Eisen name."
