Lowenherz has entered from behind the curtain.
Maxwell starts looking through them, with the trainer's list in hand.
Lowenherz comes bearing five books
DiegoValdez says (to Maxwell), "senor ... I beg your pardon for the words earlier ... loyalty to your ruler comes first, of course."
Lowenherz says (to Giovanna), "It's been awhile since I looked, but some of these might interest you."
DiegoValdez says, "Er. Speaking of whom.... buenas noches."
Lowenherz sits down.
Gamemaster says (to Eolo), "You've made it out to Brunhilde's place"
[7thsea] DiegoValdez says, "Oh wait, Lowenherz in dining, not library. never mind me."
Gamemaster says, "(btw, that's an umlaut u)"
Giovanna looks at the books curiously and flips a few pages.
Eolo knocks on the door.
[Crows-Nest] Maxwell says, "Umlaut? Well, that explains everything."
Lowenherz says, "They are generally stories about famous Fate Witches of time past"
Lowenherz says, "Their accomplishments and research"
[Crows-Nest] Gamemaster says, "heh"
[Crows-Nest] Gamemaster exclaims, "suddenly, the entire story falls into place!"
[Crows-Nest] DiegoValdez says, "Yay oysters."
Maxwell says (to Diego), "Oh, hmm. Glad to hear you're not upset."
Giovanna asks (of Lowenherz), "Where is that story about the blank cards, of which you told me?"
[Crows-Nest] DiegoValdez says, "(the word 'umlaut' always makes me think of oysters.)"
Lowenherz says, "Yes, I do still have that book...let's see..."
[Crows-Nest] Maxwell says, "huh. um."
Lowenherz flips pages
Gamemaster says (to Maxwell), "You start to get the impression these are not well-written books at all, but rather popular trash"
Eolo says (to Brunhilde), "I apologize for disturbing you at this hour, but I was hoping to get this leg-wound bound before I slept."
Gamemaster says (to Maxwell), "Like somone's travel notes that seem barely credible"
DiegoValdez says (to Maxwell), "I cannot really fault you on it, senor."
Gamemaster says, "Brunhilde says, (to Eolo), "Come in, then, I'll take a look.""
Maxwell frowns somewhat.
Gamemaster says (to Maxwell), "None that are a general index on specific monsters"
Eolo steps inside.
DiegoValdez asks (of Max), "Is something wrong?"
Eolo asks (of Brunhilde), "did you have a chance to look at the palmest, earlier?"
Maxwell says, "These books aren't particularly organized or reliable."
Maxwell says, "Like someone's notes even."
Lowenherz says, "Right. Here we are. Rebecca Caligari."
[7thsea] Era_Khar'Kov says, "rather than speed-reading the transcript, can someone catch me up on the important bits?  I got as far as the child being kidnapped, and the palmist animal-herb."
Lowenherz says, "There's a picture of her, even. Hm. I didn't remember that before."

Giovanna looks at the picture, intrigued.
[7thsea] Eolo says, "we went into the forest, except for giovanna, and found and fought a monster"
Maxwell says, "but maybe there's something about the sort of creature we faced today."
[7thsea] Eolo says, "which had probably been trained by the palmest herb"
DiegoValdez looks around. "...not exactly the San Cristobal university library...."
[7thsea] Maxwell asks, "reroll to look for that?"
[7thsea] Eolo says, "we waited around to look for the guy but he had gone, maybe. unless he came by later."
Gamemaster says (to Eolo), "Lowenherz stopped by. It's not a healing herb so I'm not terribly familiar with it."
Gamemaster says (to Eolo), "It grows in southern Montaigne."
Giovanna asks (of Lowenherz), "What does it say of... the Caligari family?"
[7thsea] Eolo says, "meanwhile, lowenherz's horses were poisoned by someone, probably sieger"
Eolo asks (of Brunhilde), "is it common here? do you have any, for instance?"
DiegoValdez says, "Perhaps we should have brought it back for senor Lowenherz to look at."
[7thsea] Eolo says, "and giovanna got to use her mad poison-detection skillz"
Gamemaster says (to Giovanna), "The picture shows a woman who is drawn as fairly young and beautiful studying a set of cards"

Giovanna bends to look more closely at the spider.

Maxwell is fairly absorbed in his searching.
Gamemaster says (to Giovanna), "there's not a lot of detail, it's just a spider"
Gamemaster says (to Giovanna), "somewhat large, 8 legs, no definite species"
Giovanna asks (of Lowenherz), "Is there anything in the story about this spider?"
[7thsea] Maxwell asks (of GM), "[repeat] do I need another roll to look for anything about what we faced?"
DiegoValdez says (to Maxwell), "I beg your pardon, I meant the creature in the cave. Perhaps we could have it stuffed and mounted like the other trophies."
Gamemaster says (to Maxwell), "There's one part of interest..."
Eolo pays Brunhilde, thanks her, and makes his way back to the manor.
Gamemaster says (to Maxwell), "in the middle of one long and boring travelogue that sounds like it was all made up, you notice a part that has been underlined, or at least it was but the underline was scratched out"
Gamemaster says (to Maxwell), "It's telling a story about an Ancient Drachen that ruled the monsters 1500 years ago"
Maxwell finds an interesting part and translates aloud.
Gamemaster says (to Maxwell), "abit more later, let me get back to Giovanna"

[7thsea] Maxwell exclaims, "yes!"
Lowenherz says (to Giovanna), "I've glanced through it now, there's no mention of spiders."

Lowenherz says (to Giovanna), "The story told here is the version where she dies immediately after the cards are turned over."
Maxwell says, "mm, yes."

Lowenherz says, "Sort of a lurid style...'And she fingered the next card, trembling...'"

Gamemaster says (to Maxwell), "Basically, it's about a giant drachen that after causing an undue amount of havoc was imprisoned under the earth by the gods"

Gamemaster says (to Era), "Well, let's say your stomach has been feeling somewhat badly but you've slightly recovered and went in to see Maxwell and Diego"

Lowenherz says, "But, ah, wait, dreams."
Lowenherz takes out another book
Giovanna glances at Eolo and abstractedly pushes the cheese plate in his direction.
Lowenherz says, "No title, and some cryptic essays...the first one is all gibberish...but the second one..."
Era_Khar'Kov intercepts the cheese plate and has a bite.
Lowenherz says (to Era), "Ah, hello."
Lowenherz asks (of Era), "Is your stomach feeling better?"
DiegoValdez chuckles as Max reads the story aloud. Heh, whatever would the Church say about that.
Era_Khar'Kov says, "Yes."
Era_Khar'Kov says, "Thank you."
Giovanna asks (of Lowenherz), "Yes...?"
Eolo seems to be feeling better, enough to take a piece. He glances at it carefully before eating.
Lowenherz asks, "Good to hear. Has anyone informed you of what's happened today?"
Era_Khar'Kov says, "Not in detail."
Gamemaster says (to Maxwell), "Also, it enigmatically suggests the drachen is still alive"
Era_Khar'Kov asks, "I gather a monster was vanquished?"
Lowenherz says, "You should ask our battle veteran here about that."
Lowenherz motions to Eolo
[7thsea] Maxwell says, "Yes, but the worse monster is yet to be dealt with."
Lowenherz says (to Giovanna), "In any case, this book, the second part, has something that roughly translates to 'The Interpretation of Dreams.'"
[7thsea] DiegoValdez asks (of Maxwell), "You mean Sieger?"
[Crows-Nest] Maxwell asks, "Lots of stuff about bananas and cigars?"
Era_Khar'Kov asks (of Eolo), "But you didn't find who was responsible?"
Eolo says, "mm"
Giovanna sits forward.
[7thsea] Maxwell nods.
Giovanna asks (of Lowenherz), "What does it say?"
Lowenherz says, "Well, it's a long essay...I frankly don't recall understanding it when I read it..."
Eolo says, "a man and his trained beast kidnapped a baby from a house near the forest. we tracked the beast to a secret lair in the forest and killed it"
Eolo says, "there was no trace of the man."
Lowenherz flips pages
Maxwell says, "Hm. Drachen."
Era_Khar'Kov says (to Eolo), "Interesting."
Lowenherz asks, "Is there anything I should look for in particular?"
Maxwell says, "The story sounds rather silly -- but..."
Era_Khar'Kov asks, "Do you think the man is nearby?"
DiegoValdez asks (of Maxwell), "You don't suppose that creature was a drachen, was it?"
Maxwell says (to Diego), "Today's? No."
DiegoValdez says (to Maxwell), "Oh."
Maxwell says, "But I was thinking of those shakings we heard about, beneath Jean Claude's manor."
Lowenherz glances at Giovanna.
Lowenherz says, "Hm.."
Giovanna says (to Lowenherz), "I was hoping for an explanation of the dreams that you spoke of -- associated with a change in..."
DiegoValdez asks (of Maxwell), "Oh! Didn't the Marquis' lands use to be part of Eisen?"
Giovanna says (to Lowenherz), "well, perhaps not change.  A tampering with threads."
Eolo says, "if the beast was indeed his pet, he would presumably have stayed nearby"
Eolo says, "but it is hard to say -- there were signs he may have been training it for someone else"
Lowenherz asks, "My own dreams, you mean?"
Maxwell says (to Diego), "Yes, that's right. The Gruenwalds were there during that time, of course."
Giovanna says (to Lowenherz), "Or-- that general category of thing, shall we say."
Giovanna says, "Whether they are accurate, and what one sees.  Exactly."
Lowenherz says, "Hmm."
Lowenherz asks (of Eolo&Era), "Can you leave us alone for a moment?"
Era_Khar'Kov asks (of Eolo), "Shall we step out?"
DiegoValdez says, "Poor senor Gruenwald ... I wonder how he is...."

Maxwell says, "Unfortunately, I can't find even an anecdote about that snouted creature with the strong blood."
Lowenherz says, "I'll tell you specifically....my own dreams....had a floating skull that was mocking me."
Maxwell says, "Who knows what I could be missing though, the way this is written."
Lowenherz says, "It spit, shouted profanities, hummed in tongues."
Eolo says (to Era), "I don't remember the inn being much to speak of, but I wouldn't mind a distraction."
Giovanna says (to Lowenherz), "How ghastly."
Giovanna asks, "Did it tell you anything that proved to be true?"
Lowenherz says, "I'm afraid I don't remember any other salient details...I've somewhat shut them off."
DiegoValdez says (to Maxwell), "I'd give it a shot, if my handle on the language were up to snuff."
Giovanna nods.  "Understandable."
Lowenherz says, "No, no floating skulls in real life that I have encountered."
Eolo leads the way to the inn.
Giovanna says, "I-- was just wondering if any of the effects of fate manipulation are recorded there, and what sort of dreams they send to the victims."
[Crows-Nest] Maxwell says, "If we did meet one, we'd obviously try to kick it."
Lowenherz says, "Ah, hm. I don't think this essay covers that."
Lowenherz flips pages
DiegoValdez says (to Maxwell), "In any case ... perhaps we should rejoin the others."
[Crows-Nest] DiegoValdez says, "hmmm. If coffee place gave me decaf, heads will roll...."
Lowenherz says, "I believe I had this book because I had spotted something in the first section, the gibberish, that interested me."
Lowenherz says, "I can't remember now."
Giovanna asks (of Lowenherz), "Oh?"
Giovanna asks, "Is it some kind of trick writing or code?"
Maxwell says, "Yes. Actually, I wonder where Federico is, I'm a bit bruised up from hitting that wall."
Lowenherz flips to the gibberish
Lowenherz says, "You can read this as well as I."

Giovanna stares fixedly at the little letters on the page.
DiegoValdez chuckles. "Heh, I thought you Eiseners were tuff....
Gamemaster says, "It's writing done directly to the page in a hasty cribbed hand"
Gamemaster says, "Every once in a while there's an odd diagram"
Era_Khar'Kov asks (of Eolo), "Shall we try eavesdropping on the patrons again?  or perhaps engage them in conversation?"
Giovanna examines the diagrams.
Gamemaster says, "Usually it involves a circle of some sort with many lines running to points along the edge"
DiegoValdez turns and strolls out of the library towards the dining room.
Gamemaster says, "And then random...letters?...written inside"
Giovanna looks back at Lowenherz.  "Any idea what *these* might mean?"
Maxwell says (to Diego), "Well, I've ignored it this long. But it would be nice to get a good sleep tonight."
Eolo says (to Era), "I am a little interested to know what was the motive for today's events"

Lowenherz says (to Giovanna), "It's almost as if I remember opening the book, but then there's a gap in my memory."

Giovanna says, "I see."
[Crows-Nest] Gamemaster says, "hee"
Giovanna asks, "And did you... feel changed after that?"
[Crows-Nest] Gamemaster says, "just keep thinking optimistically like that"
Lowenherz says, "No, not that I can remember."
Giovanna says, "You mentioned some ambivalence about yourself, starting sometime in the indeterminate past..."
Giovanna says, "hmm."
Giovanna says, "Nonetheless..."
DiegoValdez looks from Giovanna to Lowenherz, a little surprised.

Giovanna makes an amused expression, and gets up.  "Not at all."
Lowenherz says, "Here, perhaps he should look at this.."
Era_Khar'Kov asks (of Bartender), "Anyone who might have a grudge against the woman or her family?"
Lowenherz hands over the book
DiegoValdez looks at the book.
Giovanna opens her mouth, then shuts it again and shrugs.
Gamemaster says, "Nah, just another local farmer type. They don't tend to accumulate enemies."
Gamemaster says (to Diego), "the part he's showing you, the pages are blank"
DiegoValdez frowns and turns the page.
Gamemaster says, "more blank pages."
Era_Khar'Kov looks speculatively at Eolo and asks (in Montaigne) "Maybe the child was the focus, then."
DiegoValdez says, "(trying to be polite) quite a fine notebook, I'm sure. Good quality paper."
Lowenherz asks, "Hm?"
Eolo says (to Era), "it's possible. but it ended up as a meal."
Giovanna looks at Diego with amusement.
Lowenherz asks, "You don't see anything written there?"
Era_Khar'Kov says (to Eolo), "Perhaps we're looking at this too narrowly."
Giovanna gives Lowenherz a forbidding look and shakes her head slightly.
DiegoValdez flips to the beginning. "You have yet to use it?"
Lowenherz glaces at Giovanna curiously

Lowenherz takes back the book and flips to the Dreams section

Lowenherz asks, "Anything there?"
Era_Khar'Kov asks (of Barkeep), "Have there been any stories like this in other towns?"
Eolo says, "it's hard to see why the family would matter"
Gamemaster says (to Diego), "You can't read Eisen well that yet, but it's some printed Eisen text"
Eolo says, "unless they are the closest to the forest."
DiegoValdez gives Lowenherz a strange look, then looks back at the book.
Gamemaster says (to Era), "Always critter stories."
Gamemaster asks, "Which of the 500 or so would ya like to hear?"
Era_Khar'Kov asks, "Anything recent?  Or similar to this one?"
DiegoValdez says, "Oh, well, I hadn't seen this ... I'm afraid I'm not quite familiar with Eisen writing just yet."
Gamemaster says, "Mm. I'm afraid I don't get out of town much anymore, ma'am."
DiegoValdez says, "Rather odd, beginning the book so many pages late."
Lowenherz takes the book back again
Lowenherz says, "Yes....hm..."

Era_Khar'Kov orders a second drink and tips the bartender.

Maxwell goes to the kitchen and takes the time to carefully wash his dagger.

Giovanna says (to Lowenherz), "It seems to be some kind of magical text."
Lowenherz says, "Yes..."
Giovanna says, "I believe our friend here is too innocent for such things."
Lowenherz asks, "But why can we read it, but not Diego?"
DiegoValdez bows, looks again at the blank pages, Lowenherz, Giovanna, then turns and heads out.
Lowenherz says, "Hmm."

Lowenherz says, "I'm still mystified about the book...I actually obtained this one five years or so ago, it wasn't part of the collection I got during that year."

Era_Khar'Kov says, "We've been visiting with Lowenherz, having come with an agent of his."
Lowenherz says, "Distant relative died. I got some of what small collection he had."
DiegoValdez asks (of Maxwell), "Well, we seem to be at a loose end. So ... how about a quick nip down to the cantina for a drink?"

Giovanna thinks that she could really use some of that white powder she had earlier.

Eva says, "I don't know anyone outside Eisen who knows the weapon specifically."
Era_Khar'Kov says, "That's an impressive weapon when weilded by an experienced fighter."
Eva says, "I try to remain modest."
DiegoValdez looks at the zweihander. Yow. How on earth does one use something like that?
Giovanna privately considers the whole thing very uncouth.
Era_Khar'Kov asks, "So what were you training for in Pavtlow?"

Eolo says (to Giovanna), "a knife might be a bit more subtle"

Gamemaster says, "It's not real important to draw out a map right now, so I'll just do quick description -- back a couple rooms to stairs, up two floors to some pleasantly furnished rooms"
Gamemaster says (to Maxwell), "Lowenherz appears to be staring at a blank page in a book...he looks like he's in some sort of trance"
Eolo checks his windows to make sure they're locked, examines the closet, oils his crossbow, undresses, and goes to bed.
Gamemaster says, "Strong oak table, chest, bed."
Maxwell asks (of Lowenherz), "Sir?"
Gamemaster says, "Feather mattress."
Gamemaster says (to Maxwell), "He still looks dazed."
DiegoValdez yawns, undresses, and drops into bed.
Eolo glares at the feather bed before falling asleep on it.

Maxwell frowns as he steps closer and looks from the blank pages to the Eisenfu"rst.

Lowenherz says, "It's been a busy day I suppose."

Era_Khar'Kov looks appreciatively around the room before slipping between the sheets.

Giovanna lies down apprehensively on her bed, staring at the ceiling and not really sleeping.

DiegoValdez dresses and trots downstairs to the backyard. Morning exercises.
Eolo dresses silently, picks up his crossbow, loads and unloads, draws knives, testing each edge, replaces them, and comes downstairs.
DiegoValdez practices his feint.
Maxwell goes downstairs and looks for breakfast.
Giovanna goes downstairs as well.

DiegoValdez smiles cheerfully and looks to see what the breakfast menu is.

Franz says, "Well, nobody ate the potato pancakes last night..."
Franz looks hurt
Era_Khar'Kov asks, "How about some cheese with the potato-cakes?"
DiegoValdez says, "indeed ... well, I think I may have stuffed myself on the sausages...."

Giovanna tries the potato pancakes.  She likes them better than she expected, but she'd never admit that.

Giovanna says (to Lowenherz), "only a bit of a dream."

DiegoValdez attacks the pancakes and ham with gusto.
[Crows-Nest] Giovanna says, "but anyway, he just said that aloud, so :)"
Giovanna says (to Eolo), "Yes, I slept."
[Crows-Nest] Lowenherz says, "stage whisper"
Giovanna looks around the table.  "Where is Federico?"
[Crows-Nest] Cadiz says, "Can you grab the dream before it disappears from your buffer? ;-)"
[Crows-Nest] Giovanna says, "okay :)"
[Crows-Nest] Lowenherz quickly types a bunch of nonsense lines to foil Cadiz's plot
DiegoValdez says (to Giovanna), "Probably at his morning prayers."
Giovanna nods, but looks a little concerned nonetheless.
DiegoValdez says (to Giovanna), "Don't worry. I'm sure we won't have some crazy Sidhe turn him into a cat, like they did to poor Brother Cadiz."
Maxwell says, "Hm, I'd think Eva would be here as well."
Giovanna says (to Diego), "You are a constant source of reassurance and refreshment to me, my friend."
Eolo asks (of Maxwell), "was she also here for the night?"
Maxwell smirks slightly, but lets Diego believe as he will.
DiegoValdez smiles.
DiegoValdez says (to Giovanna), "I am always at your service, m'lady."
Giovanna raises her glass to Diego.  It's a touching moment all around.
Era_Khar'Kov chortles under her breath.

DiegoValdez thinks that it could have been worse ... Cadiz could have been turned into another salamander ... but it's probably best not to mention that and scare anyone.

DiegoValdez acknowledges Giovanna's toast graciously.

Eolo finishes and takes his plate into the kitchen, then heads to the lounge.

Giovanna goes along.

Giovanna of course has left her plate behind at the table.  She's not much for clearing her own dishes.
Maxwell says, "What, everyone's done already?" He shrugs.
DiegoValdez finishes with breakfast and strolls along to the lounge.
DiegoValdez says (to Maxwell), "We're anxious to see what senor Lowenherz has in mind."
Gamemaster says, "Lowenherz has a large piece of paper out and he's sketching on it and Eva and Lowenherz are muttering back and forth"
[Crows-Nest] (from Cadiz) Eva says, "I don't want to be the coke bottle top.  I wanna be the piece of glass."
Eva asks (of Maxwell), "You saw him punch Sieger in the mouth?"
Maxwell finishes up, clears his dishes, and walks to the lounge.
Era_Khar'Kov joins the party in the lounge.
Gamemaster says, "I'm presuming everyone's already joined unless someone is stating otherwise"
Maxwell says, "Well, Nickolaus, yes."
[Crows-Nest] Era_Khar'Kov considers the life of a lounge singer.
DiegoValdez looks down at the paper.
Eva says, "Oh, right, hm. Not quite so exciting, then."

Gamemaster says (to Diego), "it's got a bunch of X marks and lines and stuff you don't understand"

Maxwell says, "It didn't help anything of course, but he was being difficult."

Lowenherz says, "We'd have a fake arms shipment, and plan it in such a way we expect Sieger to make some sort of attack."
[Crows-Nest] Cadiz says, "Wait--I thought it was invading Castille and helping Montaigne.  Hence Diego's plea."
[Crows-Nest] Gamemaster says, "well, maxwell sort of didn't say the whole truth"

Lowenherz says, "Well, the good news is almost everyone hates him by now."
