[D&D] PerrySimm says, "Log on." [D&D] inky says, "awright" [D&D] GM says, "ok, 1 sec" [D&D] Arly says, "As mentioned, I can't stay too long (I have to leave in 20-25 minutes or so), but I think I'll be back by 3:30 or so." [D&D] Skalheth says, "I need to stop by work and get my phone charger, cause it just died, so that'll be good for me too." [D&D] GM says, "er, ok, I guess I'll see where we get" GM says, "so when we last left our heroes on this thread, some weeks ago" [D&D] Arly says, "I'm perfectly able/willing to pick it back up again later this evening/tonight, too." Arly says, "Wait wait wait." [D&D] Fincul asks, "So we play until 3:30, take a break until 4:30, then pick it up for another hour or two if we're not quite done?" [D&D] Skalheth says, "I'm not." Arly asks, "So we're traveling back into the past now?" GM says, "they had entered the undead-filled tomb" [D&D] Skalheth says, "I'm going out this evening (9:00 or so) and I've got an hour or two of stuff to get done before that." GM says, "cleared out some monsters from a banquet hall, and some mysterious dark silhouettes and their skeleton minions from a library" GM says, "and stood again before the main archway from the room, which was flanked by axe-wielding statues on either side" [D&D] Skalheth says, "Oh, shoot. If it's just Arly that's leaving, my taking off will scuttle the game." Fincul says, "Right. It would appear that our paths have been winnowed down to one." [D&D] Skalheth says, "Maybe I should run do my errand now and then get back about when he's leaving." Skalheth says, "Hurr." [D&D] Fincul asks, "Er. Then we'd basically be cancelling the game, no?" [D&D] Arly says, "Hrm." [D&D] Fincul says, "Since we'd never have both of you here long enough to do anything if you leave now." [D&D] Arly asks, "Until what time can everyone play today?" [D&D] Skalheth says, "Then we'd have 2 people playing all through, instead of 1 here for a bit of it." [D&D] Fincul says, "I'm fine into the evening." [D&D] Fincul says, "(I may be AFK for some brief intervals, but nothing serious game-crashing.)" [D&D] Skalheth says, "I need to take a 20 min break at some point, otherwise I'm good till 7:00 or 8:00." [D&D] Fincul asks (of Arly), "After your leaving at 3:30, how soon will you be back?" [D&D] GM says, "I believe he said he's coming back at 3:30" [D&D] Skalheth says, "Right. He's leaving in 20 min and getting back at 3:03." [D&D] Arly says, "No, I'll be back around 3:30." [D&D] Fincul says, "Oh, whoops. I thought he was leaving then, sorry." [D&D] Arly says, "No, I'm leaving in 10-15 minutes." [D&D] Skalheth says, "So I can leave for 20 min and get back when he's leaving, or I can leave when he does and we'll break till I get back." [D&D] Fincul asks, "Do we want to wait and start then, then?" [D&D] Skalheth says (to Arly), "Well, 10-15 now." [D&D] Fincul asks, "Playing 3:30-7:30ish?" [D&D] Arly says, "That works for me." [D&D] Skalheth says, "Works for me, if inky thinks we'll get done in that time." [D&D] GM says, "that should be fine, yeah" [D&D] Arly says, "Cool." [D&D] GM asks, "ok, so regrouping in a couple hours?" [D&D] Arly says, "Yay." [D&D] Skalheth says, "Cool. See you then." [D&D] Skalheth says, "(Perry should log this as a game in its own right. It'll be funny.)" Skalheth has disconnected. Skalheth goes home. [D&D] GM says, "right, yeah" [D&D] PerrySimm says, "Log on." [D&D] Fincul asks, "We're just waiting for Matthew to get back from wherever he went, right?" [D&D] GM says, "I think so, yeah" [D&D] GM asks (of Kaylee), "were you going to play? or just watch?" [D&D] Fincul asks, "Or play until you're called away, then silently vanish?" [D&D] Kaylee says, "If I can play some, I'll do that. Hopefully I'll either be able to extricate myself cleanly, or re-join, or some such." [D&D] Skalheth asks, "So what's up?" [D&D] Fincul says, "In theory, Matthew's getting back around 3:30." [D&D] Fincul says, "In practice, I have no idea." [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Should we start without him?" [D&D] Fincul asks, "The big finish of the story, with only two players?" [D&D] Fincul asks (of JNC), "Would Monday have worked for you?" [D&D] Skalheth says, "Possibly." [D&D] Skalheth says, "I usually work late, but I'm trying to get in earlier in the mornings." [D&D] Fincul says, "Since it seems that it might have been feasible for the Smiths." [D&D] Fincul says, "Although I dunno about Matthew." [D&D] GM says, "ok, I'm going to switch windows, and then we're going ahead" [D&D] GM says, "and folks will join in when/if they show" GM has disconnected. GM goes home. GM has arrived. [D&D] GM says, "right? right" Arly deidles. GM says, "so, like I was saying, we left our heroes outside the main archway from the room" [D&D] GM says, "excellent timing, my man" [D&D] Arly says, "The train was late." [D&D] Fincul says, "Arly could have just followed its tracks." [D&D] Arly says, "Let's get going. I'm sorry it took so long." Fincul says, "Right. So it would appear that our paths have been winnowed down to one." [D&D] Skalheth says (to Fincul), "Heh." Skalheth says, "Hurr." [D&D] Skalheth says, "(See how well I remember the conversation from last time?)" Arly exclaims, "Well, let's procceed, but move cautiously!" Fincul says, "You know, this situation reminds me of an old legend." Arly asks (of Fincul), "Oh?" Fincul says (to Arly), "Indeed. I suggest that, being most able to withstand any traps set on our path, that you go first." Arly says, "Excellent choice." Arly readies his weapon. Fincul says, "Mmhmm. Many many years ago it happened -- as they say -- in a land to the far east of here." Fincul follows behind Arly, if nothing bad happens. GM says, "torch in hand, Arly heads past the statues and through the archway" GM says, "the corridor continues for perhaps forty feet, with yet more paintings along the walls" Fincul says, "The people had just finished celebrating one of their great annual religious holidays, in honor of the falling of the Jahvue blossoms -- a wonderful spectacle. For one day every fall, the streets are carpeted with beautiful red and yellow petals." [D&D] Arly asks (of GM), "What kind of paintings?" GM says, "these depict a long procession of people coming to give the much-seen warlord offerings, bearing precious jewels and food and so on" Skalheth exmines the paintings and listens to the story. GM says, "then on the other side of the corridor is a similar procession away from him, but all the people have turned into the walking dead" Arly says, "Hmm, interersting artwork here." Fincul says, "But the next morning, when the people awoke, they discovered that there were no flowers on the ground. In truth, the trees weren't even bare -- it was as if the day before had never happened." Fincul says, "Visitors who had arrived the previous morning for the festival arrived again, with no memory of the celebrations. Food that had been consumed was found uneaten in the pantries." Skalheth says (to Fincul), "Strange." Arly says (to Fincul), "Hrmf." [D&D] Kaylee says, "(Sorry; folks came back--I'll see what I can do in a bit)" Fincul says, "They took it as a sign, a present from their god -- because the Jahvue tree was his symbol. And so they held the festival again, and the second time it was even more joyous than the first." Fincul says, "The next day, when they awoke again, the world was back to normal, and time continued to pass. But the people of that nation always remembered, and every year retold the story of that very special Day Jahvue." [D&D] GM says, "(oy)" GM says, "it's about now that, moving cautiously, Arly steps into the next room" Skalheth asks (of Fincul), "Touching. But's what it got to do with this situation?" GM says, "it's a long hall, nearly as long as the corridor you just walked through, though perhaps twice as wide, with no ornamentation on the white stone walls" Arly looks around cautiously. GM says, "the only landmark of note in the room is at the far end, where there's what looks to be a statue of a man" Fincul says (to Skalheth), "Oh, it had just felt to me as though we'd started to do this some time before." [D&D] Skalheth asks (of GM), "Going int he same direction, or does it cross the corridor?" [D&D] GM says (to Skalheth), "continuing in the same direction, yeah" Skalheth says (to Fincul), "Being caught away from the rhythm of nature does that to your senses sometimes. Unhealthy." GM says, "(although only Skalheth can make out much about the statue at this distance, since it's darkish in here)" Skalheth approaches the statue carefully, prodding the ground with the butt of his spear. Skalheth says, "There's a man at the far end - or statue of one. Not moving." Arly asks, "A man? A statue?" Arly asks, "Can you tell anything else about it?" Arly asks, "Do you think it's safe to approach?" Fincul peers into the dark, and approaches. Skalheth looks at the statue as best he can from the distance. [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Is it the same guy from the paintings?" GM says, "Skalheth, in the lead, is the first to notice it -- the walls near the statue seem to be glowing faintly" Skalheth stops. Skalheth says (to Arly), "No, i don't." Arly says, "Move ahead carefully. This could be a trap." GM says, "and yeah, as you get closer it becomes clear it is -- he's sitting on a carved stone throne, staring in commanding fashion out at you, dressed in rich robes and amulets" Fincul rubs his shoulder where that dart stuck the other day. [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Carved or are there actually amulets hanging on the statue?" [D&D] Fincul says, "You took the question right out of my fingers." [D&D] Fincul asks, "Also, does anyone here doubt that he's going to get up to attack us shortly?" [D&D] Arly says, "Mine too, really." [D&D] Arly says (to Fincul), "No." [D&D] GM says, "there are definitely decorations on the front of the statue that are a different color than the rest - it's hard to tell from here if they're part of the statue or not" [D&D] GM says, "(and you can even tell that with black & white vision, since they're darker and the statue's white)" Skalheth says, "Hurr. I don't want to risk my animal friends." Arly steps forward slowly, closer toward the statue. Skalheth points out the glowing walls in case anyone hasn't noticed. Fincul asks, "Hmm. Are those bits separate from the rest of the statue?" Skalheth says, "I have a scroll that might be useful, but I don't know I shold waste it..." GM says, "the glow seems to be growing slightly as you watch, moving down the corridor" Arly asks (of Skalheth), "What sort of a scroll?" Skalheth says, "It summons a swarm of rats or insects. If that light is dangerous to the living, they could tell us." Skalheth says, "But I don't want to hurt them needlessly - or make a plague of undead rats." Fincul says, "Arly's pretty close to the light." Fincul says, "He seems in reasonable continuing health." Arly says, "Yes... So far." GM says, "and indeed, as Arly continues down the corridor nothing seems to be happening to him, although he's almost at the point the light has reached" Skalheth asks, "Hurr. So Arly will be our test subject?" Skalheth calls to Arly, "Hold a moment." Arly holds. Skalheth jogs up to Arly and places his hands on his shoulders, praying in a gutteral tongue. [D&D] Skalheth casts Guidance on Arly. Arly asks, "What in the...?" Skalheth says, "I have given you a touch of nature's wisdom." Skalheth says, "If the light is dangerous, it might help you withstand it." Skalheth steps back. Arly says, "Hrmf, thanks. We may need more than that." Arly proceeds forward again. GM says, "Arly steps into the light, and nothing happens" [D&D] Skalheth says, "+1 to a single saving throw, attack roll, or skill check - choose which before rolling." [D&D] Skalheth says, "Lasts 1 minute or until used." [D&D] Arly says, "Uh, okay." GM says, "and shortly thereafter he stands by the statue itself" Fincul asks (of Arly), "Are you feeling at all undead?" [D&D] Skalheth says, "Hah." Arly says (to Fincul), "I don't think so." Arly says (to Fincul), "If I do, I'll moan godlessly." Skalheth shrugs and enters the light. Fincul nods, "Fiar enough." Arly examines the statue carefully. Fincul follows. GM says (to Arly), "as before, though you can now see the elegance of the carving -- and indeed, one of the amulets appears to be separate from the rest of the statue" Arly examines that amulet more closely. GM says, "made from silvery metal and with a large translucent black stone set into it" [D&D] Arly asks (of GM), "Can I tell what kind of stone?" [D&D] GM says, "no, although (OOC) it looks like obsidian -- shiny and smooth" Arly stands back and carefully touches the amulet stone with the tip of his sword. Fincul says, "I suspect that's magical. It could be keeping that statue in its current form." Fincul says, "That is to say, preventing it from rising up and striking us down for desecrating its final resting place." Arly asks (of Fincul), "Perhaps... What do you recommend?" GM says, "the amulet sways gently back and forth as you poke at it" GM says, "and then the light winks out" Fincul says (to Arly), "Well, we promised to purify the area near the shrine." Arly says, "Perhaps we should leave the amulet where it is." Skalheth relaxes. No, wait... GM says, "from the head of the corridor, you hear the rattling of something scraping against stone" Arly says, "This bodes ill. Perhaps the amulet..." Fincul says, "So if this is undead, we need to neutralize it." Arly withdraws his sword. [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Does it sound like the a big stone trap? Or like a creature approaching?" [D&D] Fincul asks, "Head being where we entered from?" [D&D] GM says, "(the head as in where you came in from, not from where you are now)" Fincul says, "I believe our exit was just sealed." [D&D] GM says, "and yeah, it sounds like -- in fact, what it sounds like is what it sounded like when the skeletons were rising up from the pile of bones in the other room" [D&D] GM says, "only louder" [D&D] GM says, "or perhaps just more echoey" Fincul asks, "Shall we investigate?" Arly asks, "But what should we do about the amulet?" Fincul says, "I would advise waiting until we know what it just did before touching it further." Arly asks, "Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?" Skalheth says, "Touching it caused something." Skalheth says, "Touching it again now might be safer than waiting till it's all charged up again." Skalheth reaches out to take it, waits for objections. Fincul says (to Skalheth), "There are the usual stories of cursed tombs and trapped dungeons, of course." Arly asks, "Anyone?" [D&D] Fincul asks, "Should I try Arcane Lore to see if I have any more relevant answer for Arly, or just assume not?" Arly asks (of Skalheth), "Perhaps touching it with your hand would be ill-advised?" [D&D] Arly says, "I say go for it." Fincul says (to Skalheth), "Feel free." [D&D] Arly says, "Better safe than sorry." Fincul rolls 1 20-sided die: 15 | 15 + 8 = 23 [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Is this hanging from a chain or embedded in the stone?" [D&D] Arly says, "Hanging, I think." [D&D] GM says, "it's just set around the neck of the statue, like a regular necklace" [D&D] Arly says, "It moved when I... right." Fincul says, "We could, say, decapitate the statue first." Arly says (to Fincul), "How do you reckon we do that? It's solid stone." Skalheth picks up the chain with the point of his spear, and drops it into a pouch. Arly says, "It won't chop through easily with our tools." [D&D] Skalheth says, "Knew I should've taken Transmute Rock to Mud" Fincul says (to Arly), "A valid point." [D&D] Skalheth checks his spell list... "Holy shit, I actually could've. Soften Earth and Stone. Ah, well, hindsight." GM says, "nothing happens when you lift the amulet off, though the rattling noise is clearly approaching" [D&D] Fincul says, "It occurs to me, that after all this avoiding of touching it, I'm going to have to handle it later if we want to identify it." GM says, "and now combined with the scrape of metal on stone" Skalheth exclaims, "Hurr. We got it. Now lets smash some bones!" Fincul looks around the statue for anything else of significance -- say, an alternate concealed exitway -- before the noise arrives. Skalheth leans his spear against the statue and begins muttering over his club. Fincul rolls 1 20-sided die: 2 | 2 + 4 = 6 [D&D] Fincul says, "Where was that statue at again? I could have sworn it was near here someplace." Arly grips his sword tightly. GM says (to Fincul), "you don't notice anything -- except that the back wall with the statue is now glowing faintly again" [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Do I have time to cast Shillelagh before they arrive, or do we have to roll initiative?" [D&D] Arly asks, "What does Shillelagh do?" GM says, "about now the two ogre-sized skeletons come into view" [D&D] GM says (to Skalheth), "sure, you've got time" Arly exclaims, "Con...found!" [D&D] Skalheth says, "Makes my club a +1 weapon that does 1d10 damage." [D&D] Fincul asks, "Do we roll init?" [D&D] GM says, "please roll init, yeah" [D&D] Fincul says, "Also, into whose view? Skalheth and I see 60 feet, Arly only 30." [D&D] Skalheth says, "Man. I've gotta start preparing stuff sooner. I now have 2 more preparation spells I wanna cast..." GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 18 | 18 + 2 = 20 Fincul rolls 1 20-sided die: 18 | 18 + 0 = 18 Skalheth rolls 1 20-sided die: 10 | 10 Arly rolls 1 20-sided die: 2 | 2 + 8 = 10 [D&D] GM says, "into the torchlight, that is" [D&D] Arly says, "GRR." [D&D] GM says, "but it looks like their speedy motion takes you by surprise" [D&D] Arly says, "My rolls always suck." [D&D] Fincul says, "(Or 20 feet, if we're using a torch instead of a lamp, I guess.)" [D&D] GM says, "hmm, should roll for kaylee and onyx" GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 1 | 1 + 3 = 4 GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 20 | 20 + 2 = 22 [D&D] Skalheth says, "Oh, you're playing them? Nice." [D&D] GM says, "Onyx, skeletons, Fincul, Arly, Skalheth, Kaylee" GM says, "Onyx takes a swing with her own axe at one of the skeletons" GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 2 | 2 + 5 = 7 GM says, "She stumbles as she strikes the blow, and never even reaches the skeleton" GM says, ""What the--?"" GM says, "and indeed, as you all begin to move, you find yourself strangely weaker" [D&D] GM says, "(everyone loses 2 hp)" [D&D] Fincul says, "Whoops." Arly says, "Ahhh..." [D&D] Skalheth says, "Hm, I guess it's too late for this, but I planned on throwing my spear at them while they were still at 60'." [D&D] Skalheth says, "I guess I was busy with my spell." GM says, "The skeletons, however, are undeterred, and swing at Onyx and Arly" [D&D] GM says, "yeah, I think you get one or the other but not both" GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 3 | 3 + 4 = 7 GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 3 | 3 + 4 = 7 GM says, "not, however, very successfully" [D&D] Skalheth says, "Well, I figured we'd start rolling init when they actually came into view." GM asks, "Fincul?" Fincul says, "Pyros!" as he flings something very small into the air. A fireball appears and moves toward the closer skeleton. [D&D] GM asks, "is this flaming sphere?" [D&D] Fincul says, "Right, sorry." [D&D] (from Arly) The sphere goes, "Y0U SUX0R, CLOWNOBAT!" [D&D] Arly says, "Wow, not funny at all. Maybe next time." [D&D] Fincul says, "Hmm. Brightly colored clothes.. lots of climbing and jumping off of high things. I think Kaylee's the Clownobat." GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 6 | 6 + 1 = 7 GM says, "The ball smashes into the skeleton, which begins to burn" Skalheth's snakes writhe feebly in his pockets. Fincul says, "Eat toast, undea-- no, wait. That doesn't work." [D&D] GM says, "(you can roll the 2d6 damage)" Fincul rolls 2 6-sided dice: 4 6 | 10 GM says, "The bones begin to blacken" GM asks, "Arly?" Arly rolls 1 20-sided die: 9 | 9 + 8 = 17 [D&D] GM says, "(that's a hit -- it's DC 16 to hit)" [D&D] Fincul asks, "Which one is Arly's, BTW?" [D&D] Fincul asks, "As Michael Jackson asked, is it black... or white?" Arly rolls 1 8-sided die: 6 | 6 + 4 = 10 [D&D] GM says, "but yeah, is that against the burnt or the unburnt one" [D&D] Arly says, "HA." [D&D] Arly asks, "Oh... Um... the burnt one?" [D&D] GM says, "alrighty" Skalheth mutters, and a familiar cloud of green smoke appears and begins to coalesce. After a moment a large lizard pads towards the skeletons. [D&D] Skalheth says, "Giant Lizard, 22 hp, 1 bite +5, 1d8+4 damage" [D&D] GM says, "okay -- go ahead and roll for it if it can attack this round" [D&D] Skalheth says, "I'm not sure if it can attack on the same round it's summoned or not." [D&D] Skalheth says, "I assumed not" [D&D] Skalheth says, "Oh, `acts immediately`" [D&D] GM says, "acts immediately, it says" Skalheth rolls 1 20-sided die: 14 | 14 + 5 = 19 Skalheth rolls 1 8-sided die: 6 | 6 + 4 = 10 Skalheth clamps on to the unburnt skeleton's leg with its powerful jaws. Skalheth's lizard, that is. GM says, "it rips away a few bones -- the skeleton stumbles" [D&D] GM says, "hee hee" [D&D] Skalheth exclaims, "Grrr. Yap yap yap!" GM says, ""Hi-yah!" Kaylee says, and kicks at the same skeleton" GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 9 | 9 + 3 = 12 GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 10 | 10 + 3 = 13 GM says, "Sadly she trips over the lizard and is not as effective as she might be" GM says, "As the battle continues, you again feel the weakness sapping the strength from your bodies" GM says, "Onyx strikes, while meanwhile everyone loses another 2hp" [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Kaylee's using Str to attack, right? She doesn't have a weapon finesse like skill?" GM says, "(The skeletons, however, only seem the more vigorous)" [D&D] Skalheth says, "Shit. That just killed my snakes." [D&D] GM says, "no, she's using unarmed weapon finesse" [D&D] GM says, "I'm fine for them to go unconscious, since they're your buddies" [D&D] Fincul says, "Oh, man. I forgot to count it against Anna, too." [D&D] Skalheth says, "Damn." GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 18 | 18 + 5 = 23 GM rolls 1 12-sided die: 7 | 7 + 2 = 9 GM says, "Onyx smashes into the lizard-bit skeleton, knocking away a rib" GM says, "It just keeps coming, though, attacking her while the other strikes at Arly" GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 8 | 8 + 4 = 12 GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 17 | 17 + 4 = 21 [D&D] Fincul asks, "Does it bother moving out of the flame?" [D&D] GM says, "it's stepped forward a bit, yeah, although it's certainly still in range for next time" GM says, "Arly blocks the blow with his shield, while Onyx dodges" [D&D] Fincul says, "(Would doing so give Arly an AoO, since it's moving away from the spot he's threatening?)" [D&D] GM says, "I think a five-foot move is safe, but I can't get at aarg either" [D&D] Skalheth asks, "aarg?" [D&D] Fincul nods. [D&D] GM says, "it's your turn, though, so feel free to have it attack again or whatever" [D&D] GM says (to Skaleheth), "has the srd in html format" [D&D] Skalheth . o O ( Why would he write aarg? Why wouldn't he just say aarg? ) [D&D] GM says, "http://www.aarg.net/srd/" [D&D] GM says, "hee hee" Fincul waves impatiently in the skeleton's direction. "Well, go on. Finish it off." [D&D] Fincul says (to Skal), "Hee." GM says, "The skeleton steps to the side" GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 19 | 19 + 1 = 20 GM says, "adroitly, I guess" [D&D] Fincul asks, "Darn those skeletons. I assume none are in range for me to thwap, right?" [D&D] Skalheth says, "http://www.notcharles.ca/~jnc/srd/" [D&D] Skalheth says, "For some reason, every browser I've tried except links locks up at 99% loaded on these pages." [D&D] Fincul says (to Skal), "Mine appears to be doing something like that, yeah." [D&D] Skalheth says, "It never used to do that." [D&D] GM says (to Fincul), "you can walk over and thwap one, I guess, or do something else" [D&D] Fincul says (to GM), "Well, I used up my move-equivalent action, if I had to direct the fire to follow the skeleton." [D&D] Skalheth says, "Aha. Useless stupid javascript tag." [D&D] GM says (to Fincul), "right, true" [D&D] Fincul says, "Although I guess I could cast another spell, couldn't I." [D&D] GM says, "I assume" [D&D] Fincul asks, "Are the skeletons aligned, by any random convenient chance?" [D&D] GM says, "they're side-by-side, sorry" Fincul exclaims, "Ananecronom!" Fincul casts Disrupt Undead. [D&D] Fincul says, "(Or tries -- hag on, my terminal's acting strange.)" [D&D] Skalheth says, "srd should work now" [D&D] Fincul says, "Sorry about all that delay." [D&D] GM says, "it works great, thanks" Fincul rolls 1 20-sided die: 1 | 1 + 1 = 2 [D&D] Fincul says (to JNC), "Yay" [D&D] Fincul says, "Also, I think I just disrupted myself in the foot." [D&D] GM says, "hee hee" GM asks, "Arly?" [D&D] Arly says, "I'm attacking the burnt one again, I guess." Arly rolls 1 20-sided die: 3 | 3 + 8 = 11 [D&D] Kaylee re-appears. [D&D] Arly says, "Blah." [D&D] Kaylee asks, "Combat?" GM says, "the skeleton continues its policy of nimble dodging" Skalheth tries to back up around the statue, out of field of weakness, while fumbling a scroll from his belt. [D&D] Kaylee says, "Sara says, "Make appropriate barbarian remarks for me."" [D&D] GM says (to Kaylee), "hee hee" [D&D] Fincul asks, "Oh, BTW, do ranged attacks get flanking bonuses if two people are attacking the target in melee?" [D&D] Fincul says, "(Not that it would have helped there, of course.)" [D&D] GM says, "I think not, but I don't know" [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Ok, two things - (a) can I get out of the field far enough to leave my snakes somewhere safe, and (b) do I need a Concentration check to cast a spell?" [D&D] Kaylee says, "I don't think ranged attacks ever get flanking bonuses, no." [D&D] Skalheth says (to Fincul), "No, in fact, I think they get a penalty for firing into a melee." [D&D] GM says (to Skalheth), "it's not clear where the field is -- it doesn't seem to be directly connected with the light" [D&D] Fincul asks (of Skal), "Are you in threat range?" [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Wouldn't I be able to tell if I stop feeling weak?" GM says, "(by the way, the light continues to extend down the corridor again, nearly as far as before when it winked out)" [D&D] Fincul says, "Also, it's possible that returning the amulet *could* stop the drain, but that's just a random thought." [D&D] Skalheth says (to Fincul), "I don't think so - I was in the second line." [D&D] GM says (to Skalheth), "yeah -- it doesn't stop anywhere by the statue, though" [D&D] Arly says, "It's worth a shot." [D&D] Arly says, "Uh, Fincul." Skalheth stumbles around trying to find a spot to hide his snakes from the horrible drain, but doesn't find one. Meanwhile, he is reading from a scroll... [D&D] GM says, "but I don't think you need a concentration check" [D&D] Kaylee says, "I thought snakes liked drains." Skalheth realizes he has no one but himself to cast Bull's Strength on, cause it's range touch, so he smacks himself on the forehead. [D&D] Fincul says, "Hee." Skalheth's lizard attacks, meanwhile, trying to flank the unburnt skeleton. Skalheth rolls 1 20-sided die: 10 | 10 + 5 = 15 [D&D] Skalheth says, "(What's the flanking bonus again? Not enough to hit, right?)" [D&D] GM says, "+2" [D&D] GM says, "you need a 16 to hit, so if that didn't include it you're ok" [D&D] Skalheth says, "Oh, I was thinking 19 for something." Skalheth rolls 1 8-sided die: 3 | 3 + 4 = 7 Skalheth skitters around behind the skeleton and bites its ankles some more. [D&D] Skalheth says, "...sigh" Skalheth rolls 1 4-sided die: 1 | 1 + 1 = 2 [D&D] Skalheth exclaims, "Bah! Near useless Bull's Strength!" GM says, "the flesh-eating lizard continues to tear bones in lieu of flesh" [D&D] Skalheth says, "ext." [D&D] GM says, "In 3.5 I think it's a straight +4" GM says, "uh, and then it's Kaylee's turn, actually" [D&D] Kaylee exclaims, "Woot!" [D&D] Kaylee asks, "Who am I attacking?" [D&D] GM says (to Kaylee), "are you here to take it? there are two skeletons in the corridor with you" [D&D] GM says, "blocking the way out" [D&D] GM says, "a statue on the wall by you guys" [D&D] GM says, "and a weird effect draining your hp and making the walls glow" [D&D] GM says, "also a flaming sphere and a flesh-eating lizard" [D&D] Fincul says, "I suggest you name it Trendy." [D&D] Skalheth says, "Which are ours." [D&D] Kaylee says, "Right. Is someone attacking me directly? If not, I attack something that someone else is attacking." [D&D] (from Arly) GM says, "you know, typical D&D stuff" [D&D] Fincul says (to Kay), "That'd apply to both." [D&D] Fincul says, "Dunno which one's hurt worse right now." [D&D] GM says, "the skeletons have been attacking Arly and Onyx" [D&D] GM says, "I think they're both hurt pretty much evenly, although one is likely to get scorched by the flaming sphere next turn" [D&D] Kaylee says, "OK, I'll take the Onyx skeleton. With flanking, that's +5/+5" Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 10 | 10 + 5 = 15 [D&D] Skalheth says, "Arly and the flaming sphere are attacking one, onyx and the lizard the other." Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 3 | 3 + 5 = 8 [D&D] Kaylee says, "Bah." [D&D] Kaylee says, "(needed a 16?)" [D&D] GM says, "yeah, sorry" GM says, "(next round)" GM says, "abruptly the light winks out again" Kaylee flails ineffectively at the skeleton. Fincul says, "Sunrise... sunset..." GM says, "but there's no sound to indicate what, if anything, accompanied it" GM says, "Onyx says "rar!" and swings her axe" [D&D] GM asks (of Kaylee), "you want to roll for Onyx too?" [D&D] Fincul asks, "Another drain, or are we off the hook this round?" [D&D] Kaylee asks, "Want me to roll for Onyx?" [D&D] Kaylee says, "(timing!)" [D&D] Kaylee says, "Though I forget what she rolls." [D&D] GM says, "(no drain this round)" [D&D] GM says, "1d20+5, I think" Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 20 | 20 + 5 = 25 Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 19 | 19 + 5 = 24 [D&D] GM says, "actually, +6, not that it matters" [D&D] GM says, "freeyow" [D&D] Kaylee exclaims, "Woot!" [D&D] Fincul says, "It's good to have an Onyx." [D&D] Fincul asks, "Does she get two attacks, though?" [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Oh, we mentioned the skeletons are ogre sized, right?" [D&D] GM says, "that was the critical roll" [D&D] Kaylee says, "No, second was crit check." [D&D] Kaylee says, "Which is X3, looks like." Kaylee rolls 3 12-sided dice: 11 12 5 | 28 + 6 = 34 [D&D] Fincul asks (of Skal), "Oh, yeah, that adds +1 or something to attacks versus them, doesn't it?" [D&D] Fincul says (to Kaylee), "Ah, right. Rock." GM says, "bones go flying in all directions as Onyx smashes through the thing's ribcage and spine" (From Kaylee) Onyx exclaims, "Rar!" GM says, "the remaining one, mindlessly undaunted, swings its axe at Arly" GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 12 | 12 + 4 = 16 GM says, "(which he parries)" [D&D] Skalheth says, "Holy crap." GM says, "meanwhile, Fincul and Skalheth note vague movements in the darkness at the head of the corridor" GM says, "and it's Fincul's turn again" [D&D] Kaylee says, "Looks like +7, actually, unless her strength is down--+2/str, +3/barbarian, +1/axe, +1 weapon focus." [D&D] GM says, "aha, ok" [D&D] GM says, "this sheet is out of date -- I should probably get you to send me an updated one after this session" Fincul exclaims (at Flame), "No, no -- *burn* it this time!" [D&D] Kaylee nods. GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 18 | 18 + 1 = 19 Fincul closes his eyes after directing the sphere. [D&D] Kaylee says, "Yeah, that was probably pre-weapon focus." GM says, "The skeleton continues in its dodging policy" GM says, "(also in its non-hitting-arly policy, but)" GM says, "(and the sphere winks out)" GM asks, "Skalheth?" Skalheth roars and charges at the remaining skeleton. Skalheth rolls 1 20-sided die: 3 | 3 + 10 = 13 [D&D] Skalheth says, "AAAAGH." [D&D] GM says, "aw man" [D&D] GM says, "you've got Arly's dice" [D&D] Arly says (to Skalheth), "Welcome to my world." [D&D] Skalheth says, "That was +2 flanking and +2 charge. I can't believe that missed." [D&D] Arly says, "Timing." GM asks, "Kaylee?" Kaylee spins around, swiping at the skeleton with her feet. Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 13 | 13 + 5 = 18 Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 19 | 19 + 5 = 24 Kaylee rolls 2 6-sided dice: 3 6 | 9 Kaylee smashes a femur. GM says, "The skeleton is staggered, but remains on its feet" GM says, "Next round, the glow begins again, and with it the draining" [D&D] Fincul says, "Man. That thing's taken a lot of punishment." [D&D] Fincul asks (of GM), "Does having my eyes shut have any effect, WRT the draining?" [D&D] GM says, "no, sorry" [D&D] GM asks, "are they still shut?" [D&D] Fincul says, "Darn. WOrth a shot." [D&D] Fincul says, "Until my next turn, yeah." GM says, "The skeleton seems reinvigorated as you feel weaker" [D&D] Skalheth says, "The sad thing is, we don't know if the last one was 2 points from death or 30 points." GM says, "while meanwhile, from the head of the corridor, two silhouettes flicker down along the walls towards you" [D&D] Kaylee asks, "BTW, I assume 'attack rolls' are the ones where you roll to hit, not the ones for damage?" [D&D] Skalheth says, "That was a pretty sweet damage roll." [D&D] GM says, "yeah" [D&D] Fincul says, "We could go back and count how much damage the dead one took before falling apart." GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 2 | 2 + 2 = 4 [D&D] GM says, "(flicker down very slowly, looks like)" [D&D] Fincul asks (of GM), "Silhouttes like the ones in the library?" GM asks, "Onyx?" [D&D] GM says (to Fincul), "yes, very similar" Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 19 | 19 + 7 = 26 Kaylee rolls 12-sided dice: 10 | 10 + 2 = 12 (From Kaylee) Onyx roars as her axe tears into the skeleton's spine. [D&D] Skalheth asks, "How much time do I judge before they get here?" [D&D] Kaylee says, "Actually, she got flanking, didn't she? Heh." [D&D] GM says (to Skalheth), "you've got this round to act" [D&D] GM says, "(before they arrive)" [D&D] Fincul asks, "Also, given that only one skeleton's left, does that change the amount drained?" [D&D] Fincul says, "(I imagine not, but thought I'd check just in case.)" [D&D] GM says, "no" [D&D] GM says, "(sorry)" [D&D] GM asks (of Kaylee), "er, damage?" [D&D] Fincul says, "Hee." [D&D] Kaylee says, "The d12+2." [D&D] Fincul says, "There's something amusing about a GM apologising for the nasty things his NPCs and traps do to you." [D&D] GM says, "oh, sorry, I see" [D&D] Kaylee says, "(12)" [D&D] GM says, "I was thinking that was a critical roll, duh" [D&D] Kaylee says, "19's aren't criticals for her, sadly." GM asks, "Fincul?" [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Isn't it the skeleton now?" [D&D] Kaylee exclaims, "Shhh!" Fincul opens his eyes. "Curses. It's still there." [D&D] Fincul asks, "Now can I line up the skeleton with one of the phantoms?" [D&D] GM says, "man" [D&D] GM says, "right, sorry" [D&D] GM says, "skeleton first, then you may line it up" GM says, "the skeleton continues to try its luck with Arly" GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 2 | 2 + 4 = 6 [D&D] Arly says, "Wow, it's luck is as good as mine." GM says, "though I am not sure why it bothers, as he steps out of the way" GM says, "now Fncul" GM says, "er, Fincul" Fincul points his staff on a vector that intersects the skeleton's oversized skull. "Hava-shuul!" Kaylee exclaims, "Have at you!" Kaylee remarks (aside) "I never get tired of that." GM says, "at last the skeleton drops as the beam flies through it; the phantom seems undaunted, however" [D&D] Fincul asks, "Any esploding of head?" GM asks, "Arly?" Kaylee says (to Fincul), "Some day (urgh) I'll have to ask you (mmph) what that means." [D&D] GM says, "I think this spell just silently drains their energy, sorry" [D&D] Fincul says, "I wasn't sure if the laws of narratology would kick in." Arly rolls 1 20-sided die: 15 | 15 + 8 = 23 [D&D] Arly says, "YES." [D&D] Kaylee says, "All the beams you sent, running through my head..." [D&D] Fincul says, "Of course it's better for us if they don't, because then the dungeon would collpase if we killed the main boss." [D&D] GM says (to Arly), "roll away" Arly rolls 1 8-sided die: 7 | 7 + 4 = 11 [D&D] Fincul says, "(These are also the laws that would cause any high-speed horse cart that carreered out of control to esplode in a ball of firey death.)" GM says, "Arly's blade slashes into one of the things -- feeling only vague physical resistance, just as before, but seeing some reflection as its outline distorts" GM asks, "Skalheth?" Skalheth continue's last turn's charge, pausing only momentarily to orient himself. Skalheth rolls 1 20-sided die: 19 | 19 + 6 = 25 [D&D] Kaylee says, "There you go." Skalheth rolls 1 10-sided die: 5 | 5 + 4 = 9 Skalheth's lizard ignored the insubstantial shadows, and begins cracking marrow out of the pile of bones. [D&D] GM says, "hee hee" [D&D] GM says, "mm, marrow" GM says, "Skalheth smashes into the same form as Arly did, distorting it further" GM asks, "Kaylee?" Kaylee exclaims, "Pig-pile on the shadow!" Kaylee claps her gloves together, activating the magical bonus for the second time today. Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 3 | 3 + 6 = 9 Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 20 | 20 + 6 = 26 Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 3 | 3 + 6 = 9 Kaylee rolls 6-sided dice: 4 | 4 [D&D] Kaylee asks, "Is the magic +1 a +1 to damage, too?" GM says, "Kaylee strikes at and through it" [D&D] GM says, "yeah" [D&D] Kaylee says, "5, then." GM says, "Next round, and the light continues to slide down the corridor -- it provides a weird backdrop to the silhouettes, as they are revealed to be really almost without substance, just shadows against the wall" GM says, "and the drain continues" [D&D] GM says, "where, I should point out, that though I'm not keeping an detailed eye on your hitpoints, you've all taken 8 hp total now" GM says, "(The shadows have last initiative, so Onyx's turn)" Kaylee says, "Ow! Geez, that hurts." Kaylee pulls out the magic sword and lets her axe clatter to the floor. [D&D] Kaylee says, "Er, except Onyx did that." GM says, "(she can attack in the same round, if she likes)" [D&D] Kaylee asks, "Does that take a round, or can I attack?" [D&D] Kaylee exclaims, "Timing!" (From Kaylee) Onyx attacks the other shadow. Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 6 | 6 + 6 = 12 [D&D] Fincul asks, "If a familiar reaches 0hp, do the effects of its presence go away?" [D&D] GM says, "no, but you won't be happy about it" [D&D] Fincul says, "No kidding." GM says, "(the shadows are DC 15, I think)" GM asks, "so, er, Fincul?" (From Kaylee) Onyx's blade swipes ineffectively across the top of the shadow. [D&D] Kaylee asks, "A sword crit's on a 19 or 20, right?" Fincul sprinkles more sulphur on the ground. "Pyros," he says, as it catches flame. [D&D] GM says, "I believe so, yeah" Fincul directs the fire towards the less healthy looking shadow. [D&D] Kaylee says, "OK, thanks." GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 17 | 17 + 3 = 20 GM says, "Still healthy enough to flicker out of the way, I guess" GM asks, "Arly?" Arly rolls 1 20-sided die: 6 | 6 + 8 = 14 [D&D] Arly says, "Blah." [D&D] Kaylee asks, "Is Onyx's sword a longsword or a shortsword?" [D&D] GM says, "shortsword" [D&D] Kaylee nods. GM says, "The shadow dodges Arly's blow as well" GM asks, "Skalheth?" Skalheth rolls 1 20-sided die: 14 | 14 + 6 = 20 Skalheth rolls 1 10-sided die: 10 | 10 + 4 = 14 [D&D] Skalheth exclaims, "Woo woo!" [D&D] GM says, "nicew" Skalheth slams his club into the silhouette upon the wall and howls. GM says, "His strike continues on and through -- the club smashes the silhouette into vapor and hits the wall" [D&D] Kaylee says, "Sweet." GM asks, "Kaylee?" [D&D] Kaylee asks, "There's only one left?" Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 3 | 3 + 6 = 9 Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 15 | 15 + 6 = 21 [D&D] GM says, "yeah" Kaylee swings and misses with her first swipe, but spins around and drives her fist intot he wall with her second. Kaylee rolls 6-sided dice: 1 | 1 [D&D] Kaylee says, "(+1)" Kaylee doesn't hit anything critical, though. GM says, "The shadow reaches out for Kaylee as she comes close" GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 5 | 5 + 3 = 8 Kaylee says, "Oh, no you don't." [D&D] GM says, "hee hee" Kaylee flips neatly out of the way. GM says, "Next round the glow winks out again, giving a momentary respite from the drain" GM asks, "Onyx?" (From Kaylee) Onyx says, "Grar!" Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 14 | 14 + 8 = 22 [D&D] GM says, "hee hee" Kaylee rolls 6-sided dice: 1 | 1 + 2 = 3 GM asks, "Fincul?" (From Kaylee) Onyx mutters, "Damn shadows with their flitting about." Fincul sends his flamey orb off to do its flamey duties. GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 9 | 9 + 3 = 12 GM says, "But this time the shadow is unable to dodge in time" Fincul rolls 2 6-sided dice: 5 6 | 11 Fincul exclaims (at Flame), "Good boy! *Good* boy!" GM asks, "Arly?" [D&D] Arly says, "Hopefully this'll be the end of it." [D&D] Kaylee says, "Oh, forgot to add the magic +1 to damage for Onyx's roll, too." Arly rolls 1 20-sided die: 18 | 18 + 8 = 26 [D&D] GM says, "that's a good start" Arly rolls 1 8-sided die: 7 | 7 + 4 = 11 [D&D] Kaylee exclaims, "Woot!" GM says, "Arly slashes at and through the silhouette, sending its form into crazy patterns but not dispelling it" GM asks, "Skalheth?" Skalheth blinks out of his hypnotic trance and stops to take stock of the battle. "Is anyone badly hurt?" Skalheth meanwhile grabs a potion from his pouch and slugs it back. Skalheth rolls 1 8-sided die: 2 | 2 + 3 = 5 Fincul says (to Skalheth), "Yes! But we're a bit pre-occupied at the moment." Skalheth pulls out a scroll and gets ready to heal Fincul next round. [D&D] Fincul says, "I wouldn't waste a scroll healing me just yet." [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Then why did you say yes?" [D&D] Fincul says, "Because people are badly hurt." [D&D] Fincul says, "I'm just not the worst of them, I don't think." GM asks, "and Kaylee?" [D&D] Skalheth says, "Ok, well, you'll have to clarify IC next round, cause when I yelled, you were the only one that answered." [D&D] Kaylee asks, "I don't get flanking this time, right?" [D&D] Kaylee asks, "Since it attacked me?" [D&D] GM says, "right" Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 1 | 1 + 4 = 5 Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 2 | 2 + 4 = 6 Kaylee does a happy little dance, but it has little to do with combat. [D&D] GM says, "hee hee" Kaylee exclaims, "Now go away, or I shall taunt you a second time!" GM says, "and next round, the glow and the drain" GM says, "then Onyx, feeling weaker than ever" Fincul exclaims, "Anna? ...Anna!" [D&D] Kaylee asks, "These are HP drains, not strength, right?" [D&D] GM says, "yeah" Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 9 | 9 + 8 = 17 Kaylee rolls 6-sided dice: 5 | 5 + 3 = 8 (From Kaylee) Onyx says, "See, girl, you gots ta *hit* them. Like this." GM says, "Onyx's axe smashes into it, and the last shadow vanishes" GM says, "(er, sword, but)" [D&D] Skalheth says, "Ironically, my lizard is nowhere near dead." [D&D] Kaylee laughs. [D&D] GM says, "yeah, because it vanished when its spell expired" [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Doesn't the spell last for, like, 3 minutes?" Kaylee exclaims, "Let's get out of this hall!" [D&D] GM says, "oh, hrm, I was thinking rounds" (From Kaylee) Onyx picks up her axe again. Arly asks, "Wait, are we finished here?" Kaylee says (to Arly), "If you want to hang about to be drained again..." Fincul says, "No, we can survive. We just need to fight." Arly says, "Not particularly." Kaylee sprints off down the hall. [D&D] Kaylee says, "Until another round goes by and the glow doesn't return, at least." Skalheth spins around in confusion, still holding his healing scroll. "Who - wait - where are you going?" [D&D] GM says, "hee hee" [D&D] Fincul asks, "Also, doesn't Kaylee have to wait for her turn before she can run?" [D&D] GM says, "combat's over -- you all can make it out of here before the glow returns if you're fast" Arly runs out. [D&D] Fincul says, "Oh, the last one's dead? I... how'd I miss that." [D&D] GM says, "hee hee" [D&D] GM says, "you were distracted by your concern over Anna" [D&D] Fincul says, "Ah, right." GM says, "you regroup outside the hall" Fincul runs too, once he realizes the situation. (From Kaylee) Onyx lumbers out of the hall, sheathing her sword as she does so. Skalheth runs after everyone else, stuffing the scroll away. GM says, "as soon as you step back into the corridor you feel better, though not any more healed" Fincul fumbles in his pockets as soon as they're out, retrieving a glass vial and something green and lumpy. Skalheth drops to his knees and reaches into his robe, coming out with a pathetic handful of limp forms. [D&D] GM says, "aww" Kaylee exclaims, "Oh, the poor things!" Fincul says (to Anna), "You'll be fine, right... c'mon, drink..." Skalheth lays the dead serpents on the ground in front of him, weeping. [D&D] Fincul asks, "CLW is d8+1?" [D&D] GM says, "that sounds right" Fincul rolls 1 8-sided die: 7 | 7 + 1 = 8 Kaylee stablizes the creatures if she can. [D&D] Skalheth says, "d8 plus caster level. Er, I dunno about potions." [D&D] Kaylee says, "(and if she needs to)" [D&D] Fincul says, "I think potions are assumed to be minimum caster level, which I figure is probably level one." [D&D] GM says, "yeah" [D&D] Skalheth says (to Kaylee), "I'm pretty sure it's useless. They only had 4 hp to start, and they took at least 8 in there." [D&D] Skalheth adjusts his hp because he overhealed by 2 points. [D&D] Skalheth besides, more dramatic if they're dead. [D&D] Kaylee asks, "Do they get to go to -10 like we do?" Fincul massages the potion down Anna's throat, and she gradually revives. [D&D] Kaylee says (to GM), "If I need more than 15, here's my roll:" [D&D] Skalheth says, "Probably, they're at -4 just from the weakness I recorded, and they've also bled for I dunno how many rounds." Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 12 | 12 + 5 = 17 [D&D] Kaylee says, "(for heal)" [D&D] Skalheth exclaims (at Kaylee), "No! They're dead! More drama!" [D&D] GM says, "hee hee" [D&D] Kaylee exclaims, "Hee!" [D&D] GM says, "it sounds like the snakes did not make it, then" [D&D] GM says, "but luckily Anna did" [D&D] GM asks, "so ... what now?" Kaylee says, "I'm... I'm sorry, Skalheth. There was nothing I could do." Skalheth sobs gradually subside, and he wraps the tiny bodies in cloth. Belatedly, he looks up at Fincul. "Your Anna - did she survive?" [D&D] Skalheth pictures Kaylee giving moth to mouth to the vipers. Fincul cradles Anna in the crook of his arm, stroking her dry, rough back. [D&D] Kaylee exclaims, "Hee!" Fincul says (to Skalheth), "She did. It was close... she had almost stopped breathing for a moment." Fincul says (to Skalheth), "I am truly sorry about the fate of your friends. They served you well in their short lives." Arly asks, "So... What now?" Skalheth clambers to his feet. "I'm glad." Arly asks, "And what about that amulet?" Skalheth says, "Hurr. I have the amulet. Small trade." Fincul says, "I worry." Fincul asks, "Where is the body of the warlord for whom this tomb was created?" Fincul asks, "Until it has been... purified, how can we be certain the tomb is no longer a den of evil?" Arly says, "We can't." Arly asks, "Is there anywhere else to go but back to the statue?" [D&D] Skalheth asks, "How did we plan to purify it again?" Arly says, "The answer could still lie in there." Fincul asks, "Then have we really done what the followers of Raz has asked of us?" [D&D] Fincul says, "Killing all the undead, AFAIK." [D&D] Fincul says, "I'm just worried that the biggest, baddest one is still lurking someplace behind a secret passage." Skalheth says, "I believe we must get rid of that evil light." Arly asks, "But how?" Skalheth says, "Hurr..." [D&D] Kaylee asks, "So what's the description here? Is this the last room?" Fincul says, "Hmm." Skalheth says, "It does seem to be tied somehow to this amulet." Fincul says, "More research might be merited." [D&D] GM says, "right, this is the north exit from the main room, (which had west to a dining room and east to a library). this is a long hall which ends with the amulet-wearing statue" Kaylee examines the amulet. Skalheth says, "...or we could just smash it, and see if that helps." Fincul says (to Skalheth), "We don't know what it does." Arly asks (of Skalheth), "Smashing an artifact from the temple we're here to purify?" GM says, "It's a silver disk with runes around the outside edge, and a smooth black translucent stone embedded in the center" Arly says (to Skalheth), "Not the best strategy, I fear." Fincul says, "It may be something beneficial to the wearer -- the warlord's depiction was wearing it, after all." Kaylee says (to Arly), "The temple is the bit we cleaned out the other day. This is a tomb--something differetn." [D&D] Fincul asks, "Can I try to read the runes with spellcraft?" Arly asks (of Fincul), "Is there any way to find out what it does?" [D&D] GM says, "sure" Arly says (to Kaylee), "You know what I meant." Kaylee asks, "Hey, there are runes here--can someone read 'em?" Fincul asks (of Kaylee), "May I see that?" Kaylee says (to Arly), "Uh, I guess not." Kaylee hands it over. [D&D] Arly says, "The last thing we need to do is arouse the wrath of the spirit realm." Fincul rolls 1 20-sided die: 12 | 12 + 8 = 20 [D&D] Kaylee says, "'" [D&D] Arly says, "Uh, ILAMRR." [D&D] Kaylee asks, "Dude, we're already killing them right and left. What else do we need to do to piss 'em off?" Skalheth asks, "How high's the ceiling in the hall?" [D&D] Skalheth says, "IDLAMRRR" [D&D] GM says, "about fifteen feet" [D&D] GM says, "so highish" [D&D] Arly says (to Skalheth), "IDCIFYDLAMRR." [D&D] Kaylee asks, "I assume it was glowing all the way up to the ceiling?" [D&D] GM says, "almost all the way -- say, ten feet" [D&D] GM says, "the ceiling itself wasn't glowing" Kaylee says, "Hey, maybe I could climb above the glowing." GM says (to Fincul), "the runes appear to be wizard's notation, of an ancient form" [D&D] Kaylee asks, "Is the room still glowing periodically behind us?" GM says (to Fincul), "you can more or less puzzle them out" [D&D] GM says, "no" Fincul says, "Hmm. This is very old." Fincul says, "Either that, or the mage who created it was." Fincul says, "And he had rather poor handwriting, at that." Kaylee darts in, climbs up the walls and crouches near the ceiling. [D&D] Kaylee says, "Near the door, so I can make a hasty exit if need be." Fincul says, "Let's see... this mark is a grammatical coda of some sort... a preposition, probably..." GM says (to Fincul), ""What can be bought with the highest gift? / The rat springs forth from the snake / Then dark rebirth awaits"" Fincul says, "And that one signifies the interrogative, I'm pretty sure." GM says, "Kaylee walks up the wall -- she feels a bit dizzy, but then, thankfully, it fades as she reaches the ceiling" Fincul reads the translation aloud. GM says, "and indeed, she realizes that there's a different kind of stone here, more natural, on the upper parts of the walls and the ceiling" Fincul says, "Although I think it rhymed, in the original form." [D&D] Skalheth says, "Woo natural." Kaylee says, "Hey, the stone isn't unnatural up here." Skalheth says, "The rat from the snake? Unnatural. And unsavory." Kaylee searches for anything unusual, and makes her way around the room. Fincul says, "I wonder if this is literal or metaphorical." [D&D] Kaylee says, "Search, I guess." Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 1 | 1 + 1 = 2 GM says (to Kaylee), "the only thing in the room of note is the statue, though, plus the bones and axes of the two skeletons" [D&D] Kaylee exclaims, "Hee!" Skalheth says, "Almost certainly metaphorical." Kaylee from her perch, peers down at the statue. GM says, "Same as before -- a well-dressed man sitting on a throne, staring out commandingly over the passage, amulets around his neck" Skalheth says, "The highest gift? From the tastes of whoever wrote this, death." [D&D] Kaylee asks, "Oh, there's more amulets?" GM says, "(though these amulets are part of the statue, unlike the one you brought)" Arly says, "Hrmf." Skalheth says, "The rat is a common symbol of death, as the endless snake swallowing its tail is a symbol of life." Fincul says, "I'm going to look around here before we leave -- I'd like to check if there's anything of magical significance we're leaving behind." Skalheth says, "So I think it means death out of life; in particular, a living sacrifice. Leading to rebirth as an undead." [D&D] Kaylee asks, "We took the amulet off the statue's nect, right?" [D&D] Kaylee says, "Er, neck." Skalheth says, "Smashing this stone seems like a better idea all the the time." Arly says, "I don't like the sound of that." Arly says, "Er, the inscription." [D&D] Kaylee asks, "Did we touch the statue?" [D&D] Fincul asks, "Are the hallways short enough that I could check visit each of the rooms within three minutes?" [D&D] GM says, "yeah, definitely" [D&D] Skalheth asks, "didn't we check them last time?" [D&D] Skalheth says, "No, just the amulet, I think." [D&D] GM says, "the corridors are only about thirty or forty feet long, so if you aren't being cautious you would have no problems" Fincul covers his eyes with one hand, chanting, then goes off down the corridors. [D&D] Arly says, "I was pretty careful to not touch the statue, I thought." Kaylee calls from the ceiling, "Hey, would there be anything in the library about that inscription? [D&D] GM says, "right, you didn't touch the statue" Arly says, "Perhaps investigating the library would be a good idea." Fincul says (to Kaylee), "A very good question." [D&D] Kaylee asks, "I'm assuming this is only a 4-room dungeon (so far, at least)--right?" [D&D] GM says, "right" [D&D] Fincul says (to Skal), "Also, belated, we didn't check them with Detect Magic last time, just regular searching." [D&D] Kaylee asks, "Did you detect magic on the amulet?" Kaylee asks, "Is the amulet magical? Or this statue?" [D&D] Fincul says (to Kaylee), "I just activated the spell. I guess I didn't specify the order I was taking the rooms in." [D&D] Fincul says, "So I'll do the throne room first since it's closest, then the library, then the dining room." [D&D] Fincul says, "And I'll check the amulet and scroll while travelling between rooms :)" [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Scroll?" Fincul says, "The walls are the only magic left in this room. The statue is just that, it would appear." Kaylee nods. Kaylee taps experimentally on the ceiling. GM says (to Kaylee), "it seems solid enough, although ever-so-slightly moist, perhaps because you're beneath the lake" Fincul leaves there for the other rooms, eventually ending up back near Kaylee. Kaylee says, "Hey, maybe we can just flood the place." Arly says, "That would purify the place, that's for sure." Fincul says, "Hmm." Arly says, "But whether we could get out alive might be another matter." Fincul says, "That north wall... there's something else..." Kaylee asks, "What the one under me?" Kaylee looks down. Fincul blinks. "Wait, did you say flood?" Fincul asks, "You mean *after* the books are removed, right?" Kaylee exclaims, "That's was me!" Kaylee waves. Kaylee says, "Sure, if you like." Fincul waves back. Fincul asks, "Ah. Good. Er, what was I just saying?" Skalheth says, "Something about the north wall." Fincul says, "Oh! Right, yes." Skalheth goes back into the hall and stands on the outskirts of the light. Kaylee: "The north wall," Kaylee says helpfully. Fincul says, "There seems to be something else... *behind* it, I think." Fincul says, "More magic... maybe another chamber. Maybe something embedded in the stone. It's roughly around, er..." Fincul gestures at the spot behind the statue. GM says (to Skalheth), "going into the hall at all risks the weakness again; the light only seems to be a product of it somehow" GM says, "(although this isn't to stop anyone from going in who wants to, or who wants to hurry)" Arly says, "I can do it." [D&D] Fincul asks, "Has Kaylee been affected by it?" [D&D] GM says, "not so long as she remained on the ceiling" Kaylee peers down. Skalheth stops at the door. GM says (to Kaylee), "the statue's flush with the wall, as far as you can see" GM says (to Kaylee), "although there might be a faint crack behind it" Kaylee scrambles around the ceiling, then hops down and out the door again. Kaylee says, "Anyone have a spear or something? And let me try that amulet, too." Fincul gives the amulet back. Fincul says, "I have a dagger, but that's probably too small." Skalheth calls, "Mine is leaning against the statue." Kaylee says, "Well, hey, there it is." Kaylee impulsively dons the amulet. GM says, "Okay, you're now wearing the amulet" [D&D] Kaylee asks, "Nobody said if it was magic, did they?" Kaylee takes it off again. [D&D] Fincul says, "Oh, right, I don't think the GM said." [D&D] Skalheth says, "How exactly did Fincul hand the amulet to her when she's on the ceiling." [D&D] Kaylee says, "I came back." [D&D] Kaylee says, "But I'm going in again." Kaylee says, "Good I can take it off." Fincul exclaims, "Oh, hmm. Hmm!" Kaylee asks, "Yes?" Fincul says, "I didn't see *anything* on the amulet." Kaylee raises an eyebrow. Kaylee asks, "What does that mean?" Fincul says, "I mean, no magic." Kaylee exclaims, "Oh!" Kaylee wears the amulet again. Kaylee exclaims, "Look at my gloves!" Fincul says, "No necromancy or alteration or abjurance or evocation..." Fincul looks at Kaylee's gloves. Arly asks, "What about your gloves?" Arly peers at Kaylee's gloves. Kaylee asks, "Are they magical now?" Skalheth asks, "So it's just a symbol, then?" [D&D] Fincul says, "My Detect Magic would probably be wearing off by now, though. Unless the GM wants to be generous :)" Kaylee says, "Oh, the spells off? darn." Kaylee scrambles back into the room and up the walls, but checks to see if she still feels woozy on the way up. GM says, "(they're still magic, yeah)" GM says (to Kaylee), "yeah, you do" Kaylee says, "Drat." Fincul squints. "They're fading quickly, but that's just the spell wearing thin -- the gloves' magic is still fine." Kaylee, once over the statue, hops down, grabs the spear, and hops up again. Kaylee tries to pry the statue with the spear from the ceiling. GM says (to Kaylee), "go ahead and make a roll with your strength bonus added in" Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 15 | 15 [D&D] Skalheth asks, "How much longer do we expect?" GM says, "You manage to force the spear into the crack, but can't get enough leverage to move it" [D&D] Skalheth says, "I just noticed some bands I want to see at the Jazz Fest." [D&D] Fincul says, "Possibly depends on how easily we figure this out." [D&D] GM says, "I think we're almost done here -- I'm basically waiting for you guys" [D&D] Kaylee asks, "Can I do the 'take all the time in the world to take 20' thing?" Arly says, "Hrm, I wonder if a longsword would work better than a spear." [D&D] Fincul says, "You could put a rope around its neck where the amulet was, and let us all pull." Arly says, "Perhaps the extra heft of a... ahem... real weapon might help." [D&D] GM says (to Kaylee), "mm, I don't think so" [D&D] Fincul says, "Er. If we have a sixty-plus foot rope." [D&D] Arly asks, "How many of us have ropes?" [D&D] GM says, "you could try it with the sword, but it'd have to fit in the crack behind the statue (which it probably doesn't)" Fincul asks, "Do we have a rope long enough to reach where we are?" [D&D] Skalheth says, "I was just wondering if there was another huge fight after this." Fincul says, "It might let us all pull together." [D&D] Arly says, "I have a rope, but I'm not sure how long it is." Kaylee says, "A rope! Good idea." [D&D] Fincul says, "Probably 50ft. But we could tie two together." [D&D] Kaylee says, "We can go back and get the original rope if need be." Skalheth says, "I have a little feather, that's guaranteed to break it apart, but I worry it might smash the ceiling open too." Kaylee says, "Hey, insta-flood." [D&D] Fincul says, "I'm assuming you've got multiple ropes, since the GM assured us your equipment contained plenty thereof earlier :)" Arly says, "Hmm." [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Hell, nobody's got more rope than us, remember?" [D&D] Fincul says (to Skal), "We sold off much of our rope, though." [D&D] Arly says, "Not all of it." Kaylee climbs around again, gets a rope, makes a loop, ties a second rope to the first, then climbs around once more, drops the noose over the statue's neck. Kaylee exclaims, "OK, pull!" Kaylee pries on this side with the spear. Arly says, "I'll be on the end. I'm the strongest, I think." Fincul grabs a couple handfuls of rope. Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 6 | 6 Arly asks, "Are we already?" Arly asks, "Er, all ready?" Fincul says, "Ready." Arly says, "On the count of three, we all pull." Arly says, "1..." Arly says, "2..." Arly exclaims, "3... PULL!" (From Kaylee) Onyx grunts. "Ready." Fincul rolls 1 20-sided die: 17 | 17 + 2 = 19 Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 14 | 14 + 2 = 16 [D&D] Kaylee says, "(that was for Onyx)" [D&D] Arly asks, "Wait, what do we have to roll?" [D&D] GM says, "you roll 1d20+3" [D&D] Fincul says, "1d20+strength bonus, I assume." Skalheth rolls 1 20-sided die: 13 | 13 + 2 = 15 Arly rolls 1 20-sided die: 7 | 7 + 3 = 10 [D&D] Fincul says, "I have the same strength bonus as Arly? Wow." [D&D] Arly says (to Fincul), "Arrrrrrrr." [D&D] Fincul avoids telling anyone IC how buff he secretly is. [D&D] Arly says (to Fincul), "But I'm surlier." [D&D] Fincul says, "No one is arlier than Surly." GM says, "The statue grinds forward maybe half an inch, then pulls back again when you guys are forced to stop pulling" [D&D] Fincul says, "Wait, I mean..." Fincul asks (of Kaylee), "Is it working?" Kaylee exclaims, "Oooh, that was close!" Arly says, "We need to do it again." Kaylee exclaims, "Try again!" Arly says, "On three." Arly says, "1..." Arly says, "2..." Arly exclaims, "3... PULL!!" Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 2 | 2 Arly rolls 1 20-sided die: 15 | 15 + 3 = 18 Fincul rolls 1 20-sided die: 4 | 4 + 2 = 6 Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 5 | 5 + 2 = 7 Skalheth rolls 1 20-sided die: 6 | 6 + 2 = 8 GM says, "You pull and pull again for some time, but it looks like this isn't going to budge the statue" Skalheth says, "Hurr..." Skalheth says, "You pull, I'll wedge." Arly asks, "Should we try once more?" Arly says (to Skalheth), "Good plan." [D&D] Kaylee asks, "Aren't there rules for helping == adding bonuses to someone's roll?" Skalheth picks up his spear and positions himself by the crack. [D&D] GM says, "yes, but as I am tactfully suggesting, you cannot get it this way" Fincul says, "Hmm." [D&D] Arly says, "Oh, hrm." Kaylee says (to Skalheth), "Er, that's in drain range." Skalheth says (to Kaylee), "That's fine." [D&D] GM says, "if you would like to work out a better plan for leveraging it, or a plan to increase your force, or a different plan altogether, those are all OK" [D&D] Kaylee says, "Heh heh." [D&D] GM says, "but just yanking on it isn't going to do it" [D&D] Arly asks, "If someone pushed in addition to the pulling, would that help?" [D&D] Skalheth says, "I was gonna say, they pull it out an inch, I stick the spear in so it can't close back." Fincul says, "I might be able to weaken the effect of the walls." Kaylee asks, "Hey, what was that rhyme again?" Kaylee says, "Let's see." Fincul says, "If successful, it might let us get close to the statue without being injured. But I don't know if that would help." Fincul says, "Or even how well this would work." Skalheth asks, "How would you do that?" Fincul says (to Skalheth), "One of my spells can be used to attack magical objects." GM has disconnected. GM has connected. Kaylee says, "What can be bought with the highest gift? / The rat" [D&D] GM says, "rar, sorry" Kaylee says, "springs forth from the snake / Then dark rebirth awaits"" Arly asks, "But what does it all mean?" Kaylee was reading aloud to the statue, whilst wearing the amulet. Fincul says (to Arly), "Good question. I can attempt to research it, as Kaylee suggested." Fincul says, "Or we could try addressing the statue further." Skalheth says, "Maybe we can put a different amulet on the statue." Fincul says (to Kaylee), "You might need to read it in the original tongue, of course." Skalheth says (to Fincul), "But the statue isn't magical." [D&D] Arly says (to Fincul), "I don't think we have enough gold for postage." Kaylee asks (of Fincul), "Oh, right. How do you say that, then?" [D&D] GM says, "(The statue doesn't respond to the voice, but -- what Skalheth said)" [D&D] Kaylee says, "Yeah, that was next." Fincul says (to Skalheth), "Er. Yes, I meant 'address' in a sense that did not involve actually speaking to it. Although perhaps Kaylee feels differently." Skalheth says, "Hurr. If the statue won't slide forward, maybe it slides sideways. Or upward." Fincul says (to Kaylee), "" Skalheth says, "Or we could push it back into the wall." Fincul says, "But I'm afraid my accent is terrible." Kaylee Kaylee says, "Er, that was horrible." GM says, "(still nothing)" Fincul says, "Er, yes. And I think it was supposed to be a rat, not an armoire." [D&D] GM says, "hee hee" Kaylee gets Fincul to repeat it, then repeats it herself, getting it a little better this time. [D&D] Kaylee says, "Heck, I'll roll for the third time." Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 10 | 10 + 1 = 11 Skalheth says, "This is useless." Skalheth pulls out a feather. Arly says, "Hrmf." Fincul says (to Skal), "Feel free to try your idea, with the pushing and so on." Skalheth asks, "Have we got a better plan, or should I use this?" Fincul asks, "Should I attempt to neutralize the walls first, if possible?" Arly says, "I think it's clear we don't have a better plan." Skalheth asks, "All right. How do we do that without going into the room?" Kaylee asks (of Fincul), "You want to try?" Kaylee scoots around, and gives the amulet to Fincul. Skalheth says (to Fincul), "I don't see a downside." Fincul says, "It might reduce my usefulness in any further battles, but otherwise, it shouldn't hurt." [D&D] Kaylee says, "(I assume none of my attempts yielded anything?)" Fincul thrusts both hands out, towards the end of the hall. "Hava-shuul!" [D&D] GM says, "right" [D&D] GM says, "hmm" Fincul sends a beam of red-orange energy cascading into the wall. Skalheth blinks. GM says, "The walls dim the light that had spread up them fades away" GM says, "(er, stick a comma in there)" Fincul says, "Ta-da." Fincul says (to Fincul), "I wish I'd thought of that earlier, when we were being attacked..." Kaylee walks into the room, cautiously. GM says, "you can still feel an unhealthy sensation here, but it's muted" [D&D] Skalheth asks (of fincul), "OOC, what spell is that, anyway? The same one you use to damage creatures?" Skalheth enters the room and jogs towards the statue. Arly enters as well, but keeps his sword at the ready. Kaylee runs up to the statue and tries to manipulate it directly now. [D&D] Skalheth says, "Oh, wait... I was gonna heal people." [D&D] Fincul says, "Yup. Works on living creatures, magical items and effects, and magically-animated stuff." [D&D] Skalheth asks, "a/s/hp?" GM asks, "ok, manipulating how?" Skalheth braces himself against the statue and tries to shove it - uh, left. [D&D] Fincul says, "No effect on inanimate non-magical matter." [D&D] Kaylee says, ">PUSH STATUE. PULL STATUE. TURN STATUE. TWIST STATUE'S HEAD. READ INSCRIPTION ON BASE OF STATUE." [D&D] Skalheth says, "Usefull." [D&D] Arly says (to Kaylee), "Hee he." [D&D] Arly says, "Er, hee." [D&D] Skalheth says, ">SCRAPE STATUE" Fincul follows the others to the statue and joins in the manipulations. GM says (to Kaylee), "the statue seems pretty immobile, including its head. there's no inscription on the base of the statue, but there are designs on the statue's various amulets" Skalheth gives up his futile shoving. Skalheth pokes at a carved amulet. Kaylee reads the amulets. Arly stands near the statue and examines the other amulets carefully. Fincul says, "We could wedge something behind it." Fincul asks, "Did anyone bring a wedge?" GM asks (of Skalheth), "Which amulet do you mean, the amulet with the Y-shaped motif, the amulet with the inverted triangle, the amulet with the circle, or the amulet with the stylized fish?" Arly asks, "How much space is there?" Fincul looks at the markings on the carved amulets. [D&D] Arly says (to GM), "HA." [D&D] Skalheth . o O ( There's no stylized fish on a Playstation controller! ) [D&D] Arly falls over. [D&D] GM says, "hee hee" Fincul rolls 1 20-sided die: 12 | 12 + 8 = 20 [D&D] Fincul says, "Arcane Lore, to see if I regonize anything significant about the carved amulets." [D&D] GM says (to Fincul), "they're all fairly old symbols; the Y-shaped one is associated with healing (actually, it seems vaguely familiar from more recent times), the inverted triangle with evil, the circle with nature, and the fish with water" [D&D] GM says, "they're also, you recall, similar in that they're derived from the symbols of various deities" [D&D] Arly asks, "Does that mean we need to find an evil fish that swallowed a cure light wounds potion?" [D&D] Fincul asks, "Anything Razly?" Skalheth says, "`The rat springs from the snake...`" [D&D] GM says, "no -- he'd probably have a stylized sun or crossed swords" Skalheth says, "That's definitely not natural." Fincul says, "Hmm. Interesting choices. A healing amulet, a mark of evil... something nature-themed -- you might like that one, Skalheth -- and of course, water." Skalheth says, "Doesn't have much to do with water." Skalheth reaches out to push the triangle. Fincul says, "I'm going to try consulting the books in the library here." Arly says (to Fincul), "Good idea. I'll come with you." Fincul copies down the runes from the amulet and leaves the amulet with Kaylee, in case she wants to play with it, then goes off to study. (From GM) Fincul research research Skalheth, since nobody's objecting, pushes on the triangle amulet. GM says, "The amulet slides in with a click, and stays there" [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Can I learn spells while they research?" [D&D] GM says, "sure" GM says, "Luckily there are enough surviving books in there for Fincul to get some idea of the symbolism" Kaylee says, "Oh! The rhyme." Skalheth pushes the nature amulet, then the water amulet, then the healing one. GM says, "The writing style of the manuscripts are old, and the person who kept them was evidently fond of cryptic notation" Kaylee says, "What can be bought with the highest gift? / The rat" Kaylee says, "springs forth from the snake / Then dark rebirth awaits"" GM says, "The nature amulet slides in with a click, and then the two pop out again" Skalheth says, "Bought with the highest gift sounds like a devil's bargain - evil." Skalheth says, "The rat, I thought, might be nature, and the snake water. But no." Skalheth pushes evil, then water. Skalheth says, "Dark rebirth is either evil or healing." GM says (to Fincul), "the triangle is associated with the rat god; symbolic of his tooth" GM says, "or its tooth, perhaps" GM says, "the fish is the symbol of the lake god" Fincul . o O ( 'Donkey with aardvark's head is followed by two snakes (3)'?!? ) GM says, "associated with water and prosperity" Arly searches the library for a book he might be interested in studying. GM says, "The evil amulet clicks in, then the water one; then the evil one pops out, but the water one doesn't" GM says, "the circle is the nature god, with the cycle of the seasons" Kaylee raises an eyebrow. GM says, "and the Y is the two-headed snake god of healing and wisdom -- which, you recall now, is on the temple in Mor's End where you were healed before" Kaylee says, "Hmm. So, triangle (rat), Y (snake)." Skalheth pushes the nature button. GM says, "the water amulet pops out again, leaving them all out" Fincul returns to the group with his newfound knowledge. Fincul says, "OK, I've studied the markings on the amulets." Fincul says, "The rat in the inscription is most likely the evil Rat god Ftrttfsh, and he's often represented by the mark of his tooth, a triangle." Fincul asks, "If so, then the snake is probably, er, what's his name... you know,t hat temple we were in a few days back? The healing one?" Fincul says, "Anyway, he's a snake god with two heads, and that amulet is his symbol." Skalheth mutters, "Stupid priests - rats aren't evil, just misunderstood." Fincul says, "Rebirth, I suspect, is probably the the circle, despite what Skalheth says. The circle representing the cycle of life in nature." Kaylee says, "Birth, then." Skalheth asks, "So what's the gift then?" Kaylee pushes the triangle, Y, then circle. Fincul says, "Which leaves the 'gift' and the fish. The fish represents a deity of abundance and prosperity, so they would seem to match up as well." GM says, "This time the first two stay in -- when Kaylee pushes the third, there is a grating noise, and the statue pulls backwards into the wall" [D&D] Fincul says, "AFK for a bit." Kaylee says, "I bet the fish button lets in the lake." Arly says, "Hence the non-enchanted ceiling." GM says, "it goes a short distance and then slides sideways, revealing a low passage into a small room" Kaylee peers into the passage. Skalheth says, "Urr, good thing it doesn't, since I pushed it once." Kaylee asks, "Should we heal before we go in?" GM says, "where, from here, you can see a coffin in the center of the room" [D&D] Kaylee says, "We're all down 10, I think." [D&D] Skalheth says, "Well, I'm up to 10." Arly says, "I think healing would not be a bad idea." Skalheth pulls out three potions and passes them around. Arly quaffs Skalheth's potion. Kaylee says (to Skalheth), "Maybe you have to push it in third." Skalheth quaffs one as well, and offers the third to whoever wants it. Kaylee quaffs a potion. Skalheth rolls 1 8-sided die: 6 | 6 + 1 = 7 Kaylee rolls 8-sided dice: 7 | 7 + 1 = 8 [D&D] Kaylee exclaims, "Woot!" Arly rolls 1 8-sided die: 5 | 5 + 1 = 6 [D&D] Kaylee says, "All above average--nice." Kaylee heads in. Skalheth asks, "Does anyone else have potions, or should I switch to scrolls?" [D&D] Arly says, "Uh, I assume I was suppose to add 1. I really don't know." [D&D] GM says, "(arly still has some potions)" [D&D] Arly says, "Yeah." [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Does Fincul have any?" Arly gives a cure light wounds potion to Skalheth. [D&D] Skalheth says, "Cause if so, I'll assume he uses two - one for him and one for Onyx." [D&D] Skalheth says (to Arly), "No, I've still got my scrolls. Just that Fincul and Onyx haven't healed yet." [D&D] Arly says, "Ah." [D&D] Kaylee says, "Onyx had a lot to start with--she'll wait." [D&D] Kaylee says, "Unless you think that's a bad idea." [D&D] GM says, "fincul had two potions, looks like" [D&D] Skalheth says, "All right, so assume Arly gave that to Fincul. Lets head in." Skalheth grips his spear and makes for the entrance. GM says, "You're forced to stoop -- the larger folks have to go on hands and knees" Arly grips his sword carefully. GM says, "but you can rise again in the burial chamber" Arly examines the coffin closely before doing anything else. Skalheth waits while people arrange themselves in a circle around the coffin. GM says, "where your torch-light catches the murals on the walls and the decorations on the coffin and the chests and riches in the corners" Arly says, "This treasure must be gifts for the afterlife." Arly says, "We should leave it undisturbed." Kaylee says, "Or sed money for when he rose again." Kaylee asks, "Wasn't he trying to live forever?" Arly says, "Either way, we shouldn't touch it." [D&D] Kaylee says, "Er, seed money." Kaylee says, "Well, time to pulverize a corpse. Sad, really." GM says (to Arly), "the designs on the coffin show what looks to be -- well, it's hard to say" [D&D] Skalheth says, "wait" [D&D] Skalheth asks, "What's the coffin? Wood, stone?" GM says (to Arly), "it looks like a coffin with a spirit leaping forth" Arly says, "Hrmf." GM says, "it's carved stone with inlaid silver and gold" [D&D] Skalheth says, "Damn, I thought if it was wood we could burn it instead of opening it." Kaylee looks at the murals. GM says, "The murals seem to be a continuation of the previous corridor (the one leading into the draining room) -- they have a procession of people bearing gifts to the man, and on the other side, an army of the walking dead behind him" Kaylee asks (of Fincul), "Is there anything magical around here?" Kaylee says, "Pfaugh. Stoopid undead." GM says, "the warlord himself stands in the center, on a mountain-top, with a staff in his hand raised to the dark clouds" Arly says, "I don't like the looks of this place." GM says, "the clouds themselves swarm around a black gem, which (as you look) you realize is actually inlaid into the wall" Arly asks (of GM), "Is the lid on the coffin sealed tightly?" [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Does it look like the noe on the amulet?" GM says (to Arly), "no, it's just sitting there" [D&D] GM says, "yes" Kaylee asks (of Arly), "Care to smash the gem?" Arly stands staring at the murals for a few moments. Arly asks (of Kaylee), "Do we know what the effect of that might be?" Arly says, "Look at the coffin lead. The coffin wasn't sealed. I don't know what this means, but I don't think it's good." Kaylee says, "It looks like it's the epicenter for evil clouds. Can't epicent much if it's smashed." [D&D] Arly says, "Er, lid." Skalheth says (to Arly), "No, it's not good. He's going to come out and kill us. Obviously." Kaylee says, "Right, he wants to rise again, rule the world, yadda yadda." Arly examines the black gem in the mural closely. Skalheth asks, "So, do we want to open it and kill him, or smash the gem and then kill him when he comes out?" Kaylee looks around for a staff. GM says (to Arly), "there's a very faint glow in the center of it" Arly says, "I wonder if there's a connection between the black gem in the wall and the amulet." GM says, "no staff to be seen" Kaylee says, "OK, if the coffin opens, and there's a staff inside, I say priority 1 is to break the staff." Arly asks, "Perhaps whoever smashes the gem in the wall should be wearing the amulet?" Kaylee says (to Arly), "Sure." Arly says, "I don't know if that would make a difference, but if there's a connection..." Skalheth exclaims, "Careful!" Skalheth says, "I've heard tell of wizards staffs that explode when you break them." Arly asks, "What's the consensus here?" Kaylee says (to Skalheth), "Right, but still." Kaylee says, "I'll do it, if nobody else wants to." Skalheth says (to Arly), "There is none. We don't know what we're doing." Kaylee says, "Let's smash the gem." Skalheth says, "Our choices are, leave it for now and go research this, or do something violent at random." [D&D] GM says, "hee hee" (From Kaylee) Onyx says, "Mmmm, random violence." Arly stands quietly for a moment. (From Kaylee) Onyx says, "Best kind." Skalheth says, "And I, for one, have friends to avenge." Kaylee asks, "Was there a magical mace from the chest? or some other smashing-type thing?" Skalheth lines up the butt of his spear with the gem. Arly says, "Wait..." Skalheth waits. Arly asks, "Should we try to keep the coffin shut or try to open it?" Kaylee says, "Shut, first." Arly says, "We just need to be ready for any eventuality." Kaylee says, "If it doesn't open when we smash the gem, then we can open it." Skalheth says (to Arly), "So get ready. I'm ready." Skalheth says, "Everybody else ready/" Kaylee asks (of Skalheth), "Go for it. Want the amulet?" Skalheth asks, "?" Skalheth says (to Kaylee), "No." Arly turns to face the coffin, sword at the ready. Kaylee nods. Skalheth smashes the gem. [D&D] Skalheth says, "...if possible." Kaylee kills the warlord. [D&D] Skalheth says, "Hee hee." GM says, "The gem shatters into fragments when Skalheth strikes it" [D&D] Kaylee says, "There! That was easy." GM says, "An instant later there is a howl from the coffin and the stone lid is riven in two" Skalheth says, "Expected that." GM says, "A man shoots straight up from within -- or, at least, a man at one time" Skalheth brings spins to face the coffin with his shield up. Kaylee grabs for any staff the man might have. Arly asks, "Good greatness, what is THAT?" [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Man, has Arly never played D&D before?" GM says, "His finery hangs in tatters, his hands are held to claw and tear, and his teeth are savage" [D&D] Arly asks, "?" GM says, "and his eyes are completely mad" [D&D] Arly says, "Oh, I thought it was dead." [D&D] Skalheth says (to Arly), "I just find it funny that we've been seeing pictures of this guy coming back to life and killing people, and you keep saying, `I wonder what'll happen` and `What is that?`" [D&D] GM says, "there's no staff visible, though, for good or ill" [D&D] GM says, "roll initiative, everyone" Kaylee just thwaps the man, then. [D&D] Arly says (to Skalheth), "Aww, give ARly a break. He's the cautious type." Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 17 | 17 + 3 = 20 Arly rolls 1 20-sided die: 12 | 12 + 8 = 20 [D&D] Kaylee says, "And for Onyx:" [D&D] Skalheth asks (of Gm), "Does it look like a zombie, or just an insane guy?" Skalheth rolls 20-sided dice: 7 | 7 Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 6 | 6 + 6 = 12 [D&D] GM says (to Skalheth), "he's not rotted, at all, but he definitely doesn't look human any more" Kaylee goes ahead and activates her gloves, too, for the heck of it. GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 19 | 19 + 6 = 25 [D&D] GM says, "(Fincul will go last, this round)" GM says, "It charges forward at Skalheth, reaching for his throat" GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 20 | 20 + 5 = 25 GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 12 | 12 + 5 = 17 [D&D] GM says, "(crikey)" [D&D] Kaylee says, "Onyx has her axe out, BTW." GM rolls 2 6-sided dice: 1 2 | 3 + 4 = 7 [D&D] Kaylee exclaims, "Hee!" [D&D] GM says, "(bah)" GM says, "Its claws grab him for a moment, crushing his breath away, then toss him aside" Skalheth brings his shield up, too late. Skalheth staggers against the wall, breathing heavy. GM says, "Arly, Kaylee, Onyx, Skalheth, Fincul" Arly rolls 1 20-sided die: 20 | 20 + 8 = 28 [D&D] GM says, "(he's DC 15 to hit, by the way)" [D&D] Fincul says, "I'll be AFK during the battle probably, but I've got one more mystic bolt, a disrupt undead, and a flare. I'll use them in that order if you don't mind robo-Fincul." [D&D] GM says (to Arly), "so roll again to see if that's a critical threat" [D&D] GM says, "er, that is a threat, roll again to see if it's a critical" [D&D] Arly asks (of GM), "The same type of roll?" [D&D] GM says, "yeah" Arly rolls 1 20-sided die: 12 | 12 + 8 = 20 [D&D] GM says, "if you hit again it's a critical, else a normal roll" [D&D] GM says, "ok, it is, so your longsword does double damage" [D&D] Fincul says, "Also, I would have suggested opening the coffin with oil and torch at the ready, but that's just me." [D&D] Arly asks, "So, 1d8+8?" [D&D] Arly asks, "Or 2d8+4?" [D&D] GM says, "2d8+4" Arly rolls 2 8-sided dice: 6 5 | 11 + 4 = 15 [D&D] Arly says, "Blah." GM says, "You slash into the man's shoulder, and he snarls again" GM asks, "Onyx?" Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 17 | 17 + 6 = 23 Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 6 | 6 + 6 = 12 [D&D] GM says (to Fincul), "alrighty" [D&D] Kaylee says, "Er, for Kaylee, not Onyx." [D&D] Kaylee asks, "What'd I need?" [D&D] GM says, "15" Kaylee rolls 6-sided dice: 3 | 3 [D&D] GM says, "sorry, you're right" Kaylee thwaps the man in the shin. [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Has anyone hurt him with a non-magical weapon yet?" [D&D] GM says, "no" [D&D] GM says, "now Onyx" [D&D] GM says, "(since Kaylee's gloves were on and Arly has an enchanted sword)" [D&D] Skalheth says, "All right, guess we'll find out on my next turn if the spear hurts..." Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 20 | 20 + 9 = 29 Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 14 | 14 + 9 = 23 [D&D] Arly exclaims, "!!!" [D&D] Kaylee asks, "Was that a hit?" [D&D] Arly says, "Wow, great rolls." [D&D] Kaylee says, "A 20's always nice ;-)" [D&D] GM says, "er, yes, that would be a hit" [D&D] Kaylee says, "(because it wasn't magical)" Kaylee rolls 3 12-sided dice: 9 4 10 | 23 + 6 = 29 [D&D] GM says, "well, even with non-magic things they still hit" [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Doesn't Onyx have the magic sword from the crate?" [D&D] Kaylee says, "Oh, OK." GM says, "Onyx's axe chops open the man's chest, but as she pulls it out, the wound closes most of the way" [D&D] Kaylee says, "Right, but she does much better with the axe." [D&D] Skalheth says, "Or - oh, she does, but doesn't use it if her axe works. Gotcha." [D&D] GM asks, "Skalheth?" GM says, "(the wound, needless to say, doesn't bleed)" Skalheth throws his arm out at the creature and yells, "HURR - HA!" [D&D] Kaylee asks, "'most of the way' == vaguely half-ish damage? One third?" (From Skalheth) A bright flash of light flares into its eyes. [D&D] GM says, "maybe half? hard to tell exactly" [D&D] Skalheth says, "Fort save to negate, otherwise -1 to all attacks. Unless it's immune." GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 10 | 10 + 1 = 11 GM says, "It snarls and leaps back, clawing at its eyes" GM says, "Fincul points at it and chants his invocation, sending a beam towards the creature" GM says, "(next round)" GM says, "With another howl, it turns and leaps at Onyx" GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 17 | 17 + 5 = 22 GM rolls 1 6-sided die: 4 | 4 + 4 = 8 (From Kaylee) Onyx rumbles, "Woah, there, beasty." GM says, "Claws slash at her arm, opening a wound" GM asks, "Arly?" [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Is there room in here for me to cast touch spells on any friendly?" [D&D] GM says, "yeah" Arly rolls 1 20-sided die: 18 | 18 + 8 = 26 [D&D] Kaylee says, "That's a hit--roll damage." [D&D] Arly asks, "It's not a critical hit, though, is it?" [D&D] Kaylee says, "No." [D&D] GM says, "right, it's not" [D&D] Arly asks, "Critical hits are only if you max out?" [D&D] GM says, "it depends on the weapon; yours does a hit on a 19 or 20, I think" Arly rolls 1 8-sided die: 1 | 1 + 4 = 5 Kaylee pummels the guy from the back, leaping up on the coffin. GM says, "Arly slashes at it with his sword, opening up a second arm-gash" Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 1 | 1 + 6 = 7 Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 13 | 13 + 6 = 19 Kaylee rolls 6-sided dice: 6 | 6 + 1 = 7 Kaylee says, "Ha! Gotcha." [D&D] Kaylee says, "Oh, and I forgot my +1 last round." [D&D] GM says, "yeah, I got it" [D&D] Kaylee says, "Thanks." GM asks, "uh, Onyx next?" Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 15 | 15 + 7 = 22 Kaylee rolls 12-sided dice: 8 | 8 + 2 = 10 (From Kaylee) Onyx shouts, "Grah!" and slashes the man's torso again. GM says, "This time the thing doesn't even notice -- as soon as she removes her axe, the wound is gone" GM says, "and even the previous wound seems to have closed some more" GM says, "Fincul, meanwhile, chants another invocation" GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 19 | 19 + 1 = 20 (From Kaylee) Onyx says (to axe) "You're worthless, you know that? Bah." GM rolls 1 6-sided die: 3 | 3 GM says, "The thing shakes its head for a moment as his spell takes effect" Skalheth reads a spell from a scroll and places his hand on Onyx's shoulder, trying not to startle her. Skalheth rolls 1 8-sided die: 5 | 5 + 1 = 6 [D&D] GM says, "(sorry, Skalheth should have been before Fincul, but I guess it didn't matter)" [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Is still minimum caster level off a scroll?" (From Kaylee) Onyx lets the axe clatter to the floor again, and draws the shortsword. It looks somewhat pitiful against her burly arms. [D&D] GM says, "yeah" Skalheth says into her ear, "It's useless - use the - yeah." [D&D] GM asks, "..force?" GM says, "(next round)" [D&D] Skalheth asks, "Any weapons in the grave goods, or just gold and stuff?" [D&D] GM says, "there's a dagger atop one of the chests" [D&D] GM says, "nothing else visible, though (although you could open the chests)" GM says, "The thing roars and jumps at Arly" GM rolls 1 20-sided die: 9 | 9 + 5 = 14 GM says, "He slams it off with his shield" GM says, "and then attacks himself" [D&D] Kaylee asks, "BTW, what was that spell?" GM says, "(or whatever)" Arly says, "RARR." [D&D] GM says, "disrupt undead" Arly rolls 1 20-sided die: 8 | 8 + 8 = 16 [D&D] Kaylee asks, "That Skalheth cast?" [D&D] GM says, "oh, sorry, I dunno what Skalheth did" [D&D] Kaylee asks, "On Onyx?" [D&D] Skalheth says, "Cure Light Wounds" [D&D] Kaylee says, "Gotcha, thanks." [D&D] Skalheth says, "For 6 points." [D&D] GM says (to Arly), "hit, roll damage" Arly rolls 1 8-sided die: 6 | 6 + 4 = 10 Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 7 | 7 + 6 = 13 Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 3 | 3 + 6 = 9 GM says, "Another hack, another bloodless wound, to join the others on its body" Kaylee whaps the creature about the head and neck, ineffectually. Kaylee rolls 20-sided dice: 15 | 15 + 8 = 23 Kaylee rolls 6-sided dice: 3 | 3 + 2 = 5 (From Kaylee) Onyx slashes awkwardly at the beast, but manages to do some damage this time. GM says, "The creature staggers back at her strike" GM asks, "Skalheth?" Skalheth picks up the dagger and stabs at the creature. Skalheth rolls 1 20-sided die: 17 | 17 + 4 = 21 (From Kaylee) Onyx mutters, "Bloody stupid weapon, is what this is. Where's the heft, already?" Skalheth rolls 1 4-sided die: 4 | 4 + 2 = 6 GM says, "Thunk -- the dagger embeds itself into the creature's chest, and it topples over backwards" Kaylee blinks. (From Kaylee) Onyx chops off its head, just to be sure. [D&D] Skalheth says, "Ah, anticlimactic." GM says, "It's fading as it falls, and it never hits the ground -- a bit of mist blows away, and it's gone" [D&D] Arly says, "HA." [D&D] Arly says, "Er, ILAMMR." Kaylee peers into the coffin. GM says, "and then it's all over but dividing the treasure" Arly asks, "Yes, what's inside the coffin?" GM says, "There is, in fact, a staff inside the coffin" (From Arly) GM says, "A staff of pedicurists" GM says, "in addition, there are the aforementioned tomb riches" (From Kaylee) Onyx says, (to her axe) "Sorry, bud. I'm trading you in." Skalheth blinks in surprise. GM says, "and everyone goes up to 4th level" Arly says, "WOO." [D&D] Kaylee exclaims, "Yay!" [D&D] Skalheth says, "Especially anticlimactic cause I was on the phone." [D&D] GM says, "hee hee" [D&D] Kaylee laughs. [D&D] Arly says, "Of course, I shudder to think how this will affect my statistics and figuring out what to roll when." [D&D] Kaylee asks, "Was it the dagger, or did we just do enough damage?" GM says, "if folks would like to end here we can do that, or you can poke around more with the treasure" [D&D] GM says, "you did enough damage, although it was a nice effect" Skalheth says, "No, perfect time." Arly says, "Poke around with the treasure, I think." [D&D] Kaylee exclaims, "I need to go--see you all later!" Arly says, "Oh." [D&D] Kaylee says, "But feel free to muck about with the treasure, natch." Kaylee exits stage left. [D&D] Fincul returns. Skalheth says, "Well, I claim a magic weapon - a spear if I can get it, the dagger otherwise." Fincul Yay, we win! [D&D] Fincul says, "Er, Ilac." [D&D] GM says, "maybe we'll schedule some time during the week just to talk about stuff" [D&D] GM says, "since it shouldn't take too long" Skalheth says, "Cause it sucks having to plan ahead and cast shillelagh every time I need one." [D&D] Fincul asks, "How about Monday?" [D&D] Matthew asks, "Monday when?" Skalheth says, "Other than that, I'm good." [D&D] Fincul says, "Or, wait. GM only has one slot available for the weekend, I think." [D&D] GM says, "that'd be fine for me -- I'm free all day" Skalheth waves. [D&D] Fincul says, "Oh, OK." [D&D] GM says (to Fincul), "I can fit in this, since it's short" [D&D] Fincul says, "Monday evening's probably best for folks, I assume." [D&D] Skalheth says, "Oh, BTW, my CoC players are out of town for the next two weeks." [D&D] Fincul asks, "Seven?" [D&D] Matthew says, "Well, Monday's bad for me, but if someone e-mails or mudmails me, I should be okay." [D&D] Fincul asks, "Eight?" [D&D] Fincul asks, "Ten?" [D&D] Fincul asks, "Eleven?" [D&D] GM says, "the other plot thread'll have to wait for next week or something" [D&D] GM says, "hee hee" [D&D] GM asks, "is seven ok for folks?" [D&D] Fincul says (to Matthew), "Oh, whoops." [D&D] GM says, "or -- hmm" [D&D] Skalheth says, "Well, if it's just talking about stuff, I may or may not drop in." [D&D] Skalheth exclaims, "It surprising how much fun a traditional big-tomb-with-guy-in-coffin can be!" [D&D] GM says, "hooray" [D&D] (from Arly) GM says, "cause I have it scheduled for the next five weeks!" [D&D] Fincul says, "So I'm thinking that, since we don't have a permanent residence, we could lend the books to the Guild Library for the time being." [D&D] Skalheth exclaims, "Anyway, I'm off. Later!" Skalheth has disconnected. Skalheth goes home. [D&D] Fincul asks, "'The Parmatir Collection' -- sounds nice, doesn't it?"
