The other is Yasmina, and is female, and has a Shrouded nature/alignment-- even her own nobles can't tell if she's an Angel or a Darklord or what. While technically the flaw Failing is only going to affect Jehiela's nobles if it triggers, Yasmina will spread the hurt around."

GM says (to Pete), "Nope. Well, I modified a bit of the rules to be more clear."

GM says (to Birralee), "I like it a lot."

GM says, "The Chancel will eventually be two chancels melded together. It will be effectively one chancel for miracle purposes, but should reflect two distinct concepts and natures being melded/twisted together. Also, chancel points will be more focused on the correct Imperator's chancel: for example, Yasmina's protections will still leave weaknesses along Jahiela's border."

[nobilis] Birralee says, "if we take a 2-point landlord (which the book says is an "assertive landlord") we can get a defender's blessing"

[nobilis] GM admits she aims for funny even in the meglomaniac levels.

[nobilis] Ferris says, "I'm intrigued by the gleam in the GM's eye for the bane"

Pete says, "So, very fast, light, atmosphere/orbital craft would be a great way to get to cities with major airports easily."

[nobilis] Dara says, "(still reading scrollback...)"

[nobilis] Thalia asks, "so we have magic, alchemy, magic inhabitants, landlord/bane and defender's blessing?"

Nathan says, "I *think* they actually function elsewhere outside just fine"

[nobilis] Ferris says, "I think the landlord sounds like something we could live with"

Nathan says, "but I am not really understanding the rules here"

Pete says, "Also, to places in the middle of nowhere, if we have sufficiently decent landing gear and pontoons."

Nathan asks (of GM), "what's the deal on chancel high-tech working outside? we have to sustain it with realm points?"

Dara asks, "What about the nanotech like that from Diamind Age?"

Dara says, "Er, Diamond."

[nobilis] Thalia asks, "have we used up all our points?"

GM says, "/technically/, your tempest has to do a realm preservation on it and then you have to maintain the preservation with realm points. But yes."

Nathan says (to GM), "wait, really? hunh"

[nobilis] GM asks, "Yep, y'all can go to bed if you want. We'll meet again on Saturday at 10 PST?"

[nobilis] Ferris says, "I think so..."

GM says, "Yep."

[nobilis] Ferris says, "that's noon here, which sounds good"

[nobilis] Birralee says, "that works for me"

Nathan says (to GM), "ah"

GM says, "But I think that is lame."

GM thinks so. As an overview, this is a pretty cyperpunky setting? Failing urban landscape, fair amount of supertech?

Dara says, "I'm having trouble keeping which group is in which chancel straight."

Dara says, "Perhaps I should look at the signup sheet."

Nathan says, "well"

Nathan says, "I take a more hopeful view"

Pete says (to Dara), "You, Nathan, X, and I are in J, the urban decay."

Nathan says, "and see it as a high-tech happy shiny place *disguised* as a grungy urban burnout site"

Nathan says, "but clearly it's not that happy, since it's slowly fading away, despite all their technical efforts"

Nathan says, "I don't know in what sense it's fading"

Nathan says, "if blocks are just disappearing or what"

GM says, "We'll see."

Dara says, "If we had fun ideas for other techy things, I'd go for that instead of so much DB, I think."

Nathan says, "but certainly if it's a grungy cyberpunk setting I will do my best to make the inhabitants shape up and look happy"

GM says, "technically it's the imperator who is failing, which affects the chancel only indirectly."

Nathan says (to Dara), "I would too, but I can't think of any"

GM asks, "no borderguard?"

Nathan says, "we could lower DB by 1 and get a gateway that only costs 2 RMP to use"

Nathan says, "borderguards are too expensive"

Pete says, "We never did go into details about the Harvest."

Nathan says, "it'd be 6 points for ones with no penetration"

GM says, "Don't worry about the harvest for now."

GM says, "It will basically be harvesting the energy of wishes or stars or x-ness."

GM says, "and take up people's time."

Nathan says, "when you wish upon a star / we put it in a sack and then, fwoop, off to the factory with it"

Dara giggles.

Pete says, "Yay."

Dara asks (of GM), "Can we get Diamond Age-level nanotech with 1 point?"

Dara says, "(if you've read that)"

Dara says, "I'm thinking of the clouds of nanobots that fought each other and stuck to people and stuff."

GM says, "You have 4 points spent on badass technology. I think you can, yes."

Nathan asks, "ok, are we set?"

GM says, "yep."

Pete says, "Unless we want to think up more tech."

Dara asks, "Holography?"

Dara asks, "Mind reading?"

Nathan says, "enh"

Pete asks, "Full-immersion holography, like Trek?"

Nathan says, "mind reading I'm not big on"

Nathan says, "it seems kind of counter to my philosophy"

Nathan says, "holography would be fun"

GM says, "thought-records would get you bizarre written stuff ala nobilis excerpts, but yeah."

Pete says, "Cranial implants could get us live, on-the-fly connection to our nanites, as well as telepathy for members of the Familia with only 1 realm."

GM says, "holography would be another weird science."

Nathan says, "yeah, although we'd have to pay to sustain them outside"

Dara says, "Hey, we could implement our old telepathy scheme with the nanites ;-)"

Pete says, "Mmm, true."

Dara asks (of Nathan), "After a day, right?"

Nathan says (to Pete), "that's kind of like the thing in, um, a deepness in the sky or whatever"

Nathan says, "(which I have not finished but has a cool scene with the guy controlling his nanobots with a cranial implant)"

Pete asks, "Mmm, yeah. Altohugh you mean (to Dara), right?"

Dara doesn't think he's read deepness.

GM looks um hm.

Pete says, "Or, oh, yeah. Thought you were responding to the telepathy comment."

GM goes to check with Rebecca on a rules call.

Nathan says, "well, no, since you brought it up"

Nathan says, "but I dunno"

Nathan says, "I guess technically those of us with realm 1 can do a realm divination for 1 point to communicate telepathically"

Dara asks (of nathan), "What's your domain again?"

Nathan says, "Stars"

Dara says, "Ah, right."

GM coughs.

Nathan says, "but I assume that would only work as long as you sustained the miracle, so you couldn't do any other miracles"

Pete says, "But presumably if you went off and did other miracles, you'd need to spend another point to do it again."

GM says, "You don't have to maintain the extrapolative and weird science stuff."

Nathan asks (of GM), "new ruling?"

Nathan asks, "wait, you don't?"

GM says, "it's defined as working on earth."

Pete exclaims, "Woo!"

Nathan says, "see, that's what I thought, but it seems totally abusive"

GM says, "it's like 'normal magic' rather than 'realm magic'."

Nathan says, "but hey"

GM is covering her face /even now/.

Dara says (to Nathan), "Abusive ;-)"

Nathan says, "abusable, I guess"

GM says, "She points out that arbitrary supertech within a chancel is free. :-)"

Dara says, "Like any other part of nobilis isn't as abusive or more."

Nathan says, "oh, ok"

Nathan says (to Dara), "well, ok, I guess"

Dara asks, "Oh, the whole point of spending more points is that it works out of the chancel?"

GM says, "Yep."

Nathan says (to Dara), "but it seems like here I can churn out, say, super-spacecraft for the whole earth if I want"

Nathan says, "which would be, I dunno, pretty much a major creation or a series of minor ones"

Dara says, "Right, but then all the other nobles gang up on you for being a wanker."

Nathan says, "I guess, yeah"

Nathan says, "I'll go back to influencing the populace indirectly"

GM says, "Or they don't, but the Cammora does, or the authorities want to come visit and find out where you pay taxes and so forth and so on."

GM exclaims, "Doing wacky direct influence stuff and having an open border is a fun combo!"

GM says, "Esp. with indestructible inhabitants."

Dara asks, "What happens to the DB when the natives wander elsewhere?"

GM says, "Okay, she says arbitrary in-chancel supertech is basically magical inhabitants."

GM says, "Um, they're no longer subject to it."

Dara nods.

Pete asks, "So do we want/need holography outside the chancel?"

Dara asks, "What about cloaking tech?"

Nathan says, "I can see using it inside the chancel to hide ourselves"

Dara says, "So we can install some orbiting satellites that NASA can't see."

Pete asks, "Also, do we need separate tech for the telepathic electronics interfacing, or is that included in nanotech?"

Nathan says (to Dara), "ok, that would be pretty excellent"

Pete says (to Dara), "Mmm, yeah."

Pete asks, "Nanotech, cloaking, arospace, and neural-interface, then?"

Nathan says, "yeah"

Pete says, "(For outside, plus whatever the heck we want inside.)"

Dara asks, "And bump DB down to 6 points/3 auctoritas?"

GM asks, "Is this changing your price scheme?"

Pete says, "Sounds good to me."

Pete says, "So now we've got six points for tech, and six for DB."

GM thinks that landlords are so light a penalty because they're a guaranteed GMC.

Pete says, "I like -1 'he is the center of his office, he controls permits, and if you make a typo, he will politely ask you to refile in triplicate'."

Dara asks, "GMC?"

GM says, "GM character"

Dara says, "Ah."

GM says, "The main reason they're a flaw is because your Imperator protects him."

Pete says, "Mmm. With in-chancel AI, we can even have a Hendroidson."

GM says, "Since they can be super helpful in running and defending a domain, esp. a level 4 one, who has 8 RMPs and an auctoritus of 1"

GM says, "though in your domain that would clash with Dara way too much."

Nathan says, "heh"

Dara exclaims, "Raar!"

Dara says, "No landlord gets a better auctoritus than I."

GM says, "But in a low-power domain, they're pretty cool-- they're arrogant and self-centered because they ARE the bets suited to defending and ruling the chancel."

Pete asks, "s/domain/realm/, aye?"

Dara says, "(I assume you mean chancel/realm)"

GM says, "aye"

Pete says, "I'm amused at the prospect of an AI with RMPs."

Dara says, "Heck, you could get an AI that was a noble."

GM says, "no, I am wrong. 12 rmps."

Dara says, "Wow."

GM nods, one game I was in for a very short time had an ennobled AI.

GM says, "level 3 landlord has 9 rmps."

Pete says, "If he gets too big for his britches, though, we can just take him out of the chancel."

Pete says, "See how long he can keep maintaining himself with his own MPs."

Dara says, "Hard to get anchors to drink the battery acid, is the only problem."

Pete says (to Dara), "You're reminding me of that bike."

GM exclaims, "Follow the ghost rules!"

Pete says, "The one that bit Davey."

Dara laughs.

Dara asks, "There are rules for ghosts who get anchors?"

GM should actually figure out who your landlord will be, hm. And the other landlord. Since the respective imperators should like them.

Dara says, "I wondered about that."

Pete says, "(AFK briefly.)"

GM says, "landlords basically come about when the imperator likes somebody but doesn't have an estate to give them."

GM says, "they also have noble/anchor immunity to direct mircles"

Pete says, "(Back.)"

Pete asks, "What are the ghost rules, anyway?"

GM says, "um, your imperator helps you get your first anchor and after that you possess your anchor and use their bodily fluids to make new anchors."

Nathan says, "you can't use aspect miracles except through your anchors"

Pete says (to Nathan), "The anchoring ones, I meant."

GM is looking forward, a bit, to actually playing out anchoring some folks. :-)

Pete asks, "Oh, should we name the chancel?"

GM . o O ( You want me to swallow WHAT? )

GM says, "Well, technically they're Locus Yasmina and Locus Jehiela but they can have nicknames that you come up with."

GM will work out longer titles for the two Imperators as well.

Nathan says, "Freddy"

GM should dig up that title list.

Pete says, "It should probably have an actual geographic name, even."

GM asks, "Oh yes, that too. Is it part of NYC?"

Nathan says, "Astro-city"

Nathan says, "I would be fine with NYC if we can't think of anything better, although chicago might be more convenient in some ways (more centrally located, less crowded)"

Nathan says, "of course, maybe crowded = easier to hide our neighborhood"

Pete says, "The mythical six borough."

GM looks at titles.
