[nobilis] PerrySimm says, "Log on." [nobilis] Duchess says, "whee" NathanRoule says, "better" [interludes] GM says, "test" [interludes2] GM says, "test" [interludes2] * Sargent has left the channel. Nathan says, "there we are" Pete gives notebook to Lemny. Pete gives fountain pen to Lemny. Pete gives opera glasses to Lemny. Pete gives pocket watch to Lemny. Pete says, "(There, just ditching some props." (From GM) GM tests more tools. GM will probably log and edit game logs to clean them up some. Removing all signs of GM's presence! GM coughs, ok. I expect some people will show up at 7, not having gotten my move-it-earlier-message, which is okay. GM asks, "What estates do we have in here so far?" Nathan <-- Stars Birralee says, "Spin" Duchess says, "Archery" [nobilis] Duchess asks, "nathan = inky?" [nobilis] Duchess says, "cause i want to discuss how our domains can work well together" Pete says, "Wish-fulfillment." GM says, "Ooh, Archery. Very nice, I hadn't heard that before." GM says, "Storme is doing X, but she's not here." [nobilis] inky says, "yes" [nobilis] * Nathan has joined the channel. GM says, "Maga said something about Anthropomorphism but isn't here and didn't send me mail, so I dunno what's up with him." Pete says, "I think maga said he was doing anthropomorphism." Pete says, "Timing." [nobilis] Duchess says (to inky), "i am going to be requesting the gift of astrology, so we can probably work my gift with your domain" [nobilis] Nathan says, "it's true there is some definite relation here" [nobilis] Nathan says, "hmmm" [nobilis] Nathan says, "oho" [nobilis] Duchess says, "(i am a centaur)" [nobilis] Duchess says, "i wanted to claim astrology, but realized you were stars, so it would overlap" GM says, "Two Imperators." Nathan says, "right" Birralee says, "one imperator leaves" GM imagines the centaur thing could come about by realizing you'd been Guised all your life, effectively. Nathan asks, "with three people per imperator?" Birralee says, "osha regulations" [Crows-Nest] SmallTable says, "It was the best of chancels, it was the worst of chancels, ..." [nobilis] Duchess says, "how many points do we start with for character creation? (i realize this is all basic questions)" [nobilis] Birralee says, "hm, I didn't do any actual planning" [nobilis] Nathan says, "25 is the usual" [nobilis] Nathan says, "I don't think we have to have characters yet" [nobilis] Birralee says, "phew" [nobilis] Nathan says, "although having a character personality would probably be good" GM says, "The pre-life planning necessary for the Power of Spin is rather less than others will need, if what we discussed yesterday is still in swing." GM says, "Oh, by the way: nobilis.dreamfarmer.net is where logs and notes will be." Duchess says, "cool" Pete asks, "Anything added since earlier?" Birralee says (to GM), "I'm still for it if you're okay w/it" GM says, "But some other stuff: Two imperators. One of them is called Jehelia, is gender-indeterminate, and comes with both the imperator Flaw Failing and the gift Harvest. The other is Yasmina, and is female, and has a Shrouded nature/alignment-- even her own nobles can't tell if she's an Angel or a Darklord or what. While technically the flaw Failing is only going to affect Jehiela's nobles if it triggers, Yasmina will spread the hurt around." GM says (to Pete), "Nope. Well, I modified a bit of the rules to be more clear." GM says (to Birralee), "I like it a lot." Duchess says, "Yay my middle name" GM says, "The Chancel will eventually be two chancels melded together. It will be effectively one chancel for miracle purposes, but should reflect two distinct concepts and natures being melded/twisted together. Also, chancel points will be more focused on the correct Imperator's chancel: for example, Yasmina's protections will still leave weaknesses along Jahiela's border." Nathan says, "well" Nathan asks, "how about a day/night twist?" Nathan asks, "either with bits always day and bits always night, or bits on different cycles?" Pete says, "Hmm. I dunno if I want to live on the night side, though." Pete says, "ALthough different cycles sounds cool." GM says, "That would work nicely." Birralee says, "I'd prefer night, actually" Pete says, "I wonder if a modern/archaic thing would work as well." Nathan says, "hmm" Nathan says, "if I were on the archaic side I would try and modernize it, but that's not necessarily a bad thing" Nathan says, "as a character I would rather be on the modern side, though" Duchess says, "archaic for me" Duchess asks, "does it have to be opposites?" GM says, "No." Nathan says, "no, that's just easier for me to think up" Pete asks, "Should we figure out who's with which Imp before designing the two sides of things?" Duchess asks, "i mean, can it be something like urban and futuristic?" Birralee says, "or urban and rural" Nathan says (to Pete), "probably, unless designing the sides sorts out people" Birralee says (to Nathan), "mmm, yeah" Pete says, "I'd go with urban over rural or futuristic, personally." Nathan says, "it seems like either we pick a division and choose sides or we choose sides and then each side designs theirs" Birralee says, "we seem to have preferences for various possible sides" Nathan says, "I would be happy with any of the ones mentioned" Nathan says, "one of the sides has to be failing, if that helps us decide" Aisleen arrives, looking for booty. Duchess says, "ah ha aisleen is here" Duchess runs through the jungle with the wind in her hair and the sand at her feet. Nathan says, "but I guess you can have fading farmland or fading skyscapers or fading dark" Nathan says, "hee hee" (From Nathan) Aisleen says "Yeah, you'd better run, girl!" Pete asks, "How about urban/rural, with the urban side gradually falling into urban decay?" Nathan says, "I would be happy with that" Birralee says, "that's fine with me as well" Nathan asks, "I'd rather be on the urban side -- how do other people feel?" Thalia says, "rural" Pete says, "Urban." Birralee says, "no preference" GM drops Jehiela. GM drops Yasmina. Pete asks, "Perhaps with day and night being opposite, so the sun is setting on one whenever it's rising on the other, and vice versa?" Nathan says, "that would be cool" GM says, "In case descriptions help you visualize the Imperators better. There's stuff I want to come out in the game, but y'all need something, I think." Birralee says, "yeah" Thalia says (to pete), "the chancel where the sun never sets" Nathan asks (of GM), "what are the game details of them again? Jehiela is shrouded in alignment, and Yasmina is fading and has a ritual?" GM says, "Other way around." Nathan says, "whoops" Nathan says, "so urban folks would be with Jehiela and rural with Yasmina" [Crows-Nest] Thalia says, "man, i wish i looked like my namesake" Nathan says, "I guess let's go with that, then, unless somebody has an objection" GM asks, "we can go with that for now and if more people show up, discuss it further?" Thalia says, "sure" Pete asks, "So, should we assign Oggb and maga and maybeIain to Imps?" Pete asks, "Or let them decide?" GM thinks. Thalia asks, "why don't we see how many of us are which?" GM nods. Nathan says, "we have 2 urban and 1 rural now" Thalia says, "and if one imp is severely over-balanced, assign the others" Nathan says, "so Birralee could either make it a full complement on the urban or 2 and 2" [Crows-Nest] Thalia sniffles. No one wants to be with Nathan says, "maga's previous character was rural, I assume, but I don't know about his current one" [Crows-Nest] Thalia says, "er me" [Crows-Nest] Nathan says, "aw" Pete says, "I wasn't sure if we needed to know to properly spend the chancel and imperator points." Birralee says, "Thinking about it, I think I'd lean towards urban, though I could be convinced otherwise" [Crows-Nest] Nathan says, "I do, it is just that we are forever separated by day and night" [Crows-Nest] Birralee says (to Thalia), "aw" GM thinks maga and Birralee should be the same familia, but that's just an opinion Birralee says, "ooh, good point" Birralee says, "so maybe rural" Nathan says, "I guess if you're ok with that let's put Storme over here so it's even" Nathan says, "and we will shuffle later if necessary" GM notes that you can live whereever you want in the joined chancel. you're just more attuned to oneside or the other. GM nods. Pete says, "Sounds good." Nathan says, "I intend to visit the rural side a bunch" GM asks, "Do you guys have ideas on stats and gifts?" Nathan says, "perhaps a nice vacation house" Birralee says (to Nathan), "perhaps we do not want you and your star-gazing ways" Pete says, "I've been working on a full character sheet, yeah." Nathan says, "I will wait until noon and then sneak in under cover of darkness when you are all asleep" Thalia says (to gm), "doing them as we speak so i can expand as we talk" GM says, "Excellent." Birralee exclaims (at Nathan), "ha HA, I am nocturnal!" Thalia says (to nathan), "we would need to get together once in a while to compare our notes of reading the heavens" Pete says, "I think the only major things I'm missing are flowers and a last name." Nathan says, "I was thinking 2 aspect, 3 domain, 1 realm, 2 spirit, durant, but if you think it's a mistake to have a low realm I guess I can shuffle" Nathan says (to Birralee), "arr, curses" Birralee says (to GM), "I wanted to talk to you about that some" GM says, "Low realm is okay, though no realm would probably be frustrating." GM asks (of Birralee), "About which?" [nobilis] Nathan says, "I am getting all confused by 'GM' not meaning me" [nobilis] Nathan says, "clearly it has been too long since I was a player in something" [nobilis] Thalia says, "hee" Pete says, "I'm looking at a low-attribute character -- aspect 3, domain 0 (with constant domain 6 like we discussed), realm 1, and spirit 1." Emily arrives, looking for booty. [nobilis] Nathan says, "(like the hip-hop star said)" Thalia says (to nathan), "i have 2 realm, so we may be okay" [nobilis] Pete asks, "Ooh, is Emily going to play?" [nobilis] Emily says, "just watching" Birralee says (to GM), "two things I wasn't sure about. One, should I do shape-shifting, or just be human all the time? My shapeshifting would be really low powered" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "what does "constant domain 6" mean?" [nobilis] Pete says, "That means that my domain will automatically work Lesser Creation miracles in my vicinity every so often, when it feels like it." Birralee says (to GM), "the other was I wasn't sure about was having a high-powered scream or the ability to turn into a spinny thing" GM says, "Well.... I suggest you go with guising." GM says, "If you don't want to do much with shapeshifting." [nobilis] Pete says, "Granting the wishes of mortals who are near me." GM asks, "I mean, what Aspect were you consdiering?" GM says, "Also, you can handle spinny thing transformation through elemental, if you want." [nobilis] Nathan says, "I'm just going to follow you around and think "icecreamicecreamicecream"" Birralee says, "Hm, 1, though that doesn't cover guising. Hm hm hrm" GM says, "1 doesn't, know." GM er, no [nobilis] Pete says, "Hee." [nobilis] Nathan says, "and then "darnonlyformortals"" [nobilis] GM says, "There's some Xanth character whose special gift was granting the wishes of people who didn't know her power." [nobilis] Pete says, "So you need to hire someone who really, really likes ice cream to follow me around." [nobilis] Pete says, "And then steal it from them." [nobilis] Nathan says, "hee hee" [nobilis] Nathan says, "I don't let the code of the light get between me and my double fudge twist" [nobilis] Thalia asks (of nathan), "how did lpsmith pump points in to his skateboard?" [nobilis] Nathan says, "he bought it as a gift of aspect, and then a focus limitation" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "what does that mean in english?" [nobilis] Birralee asks, "what does sovereign's gift do again?" [nobilis] Nathan says, "well, the focus limitation gives you a few extra miracle points in exchange for the gift being in an item and hence stealable from you" [nobilis] Nathan says (to Birralee), "you can manipulate things in your domain slowly" [nobilis] Nathan says, "it's a cheap minor change miracle, I think, even if you don't have the domain" [nobilis] Thalia says, "okay." [nobilis] Chrysoula says, "Sovereign's Gift is basically 'telekinesis of your domain'." [nobilis] Thalia says (to GM), "i want to buy an object and add a focus limitation on it" [nobilis] Chrysoula says, "Since telekinesis is so damn expensive otherwise." [nobilis] Birralee says, "aha" [nobilis] Nathan says, "it costs 1 miracle point, though, when you use it" [nobilis] GM says, "I have been known to sell a free version." [nobilis] Thalia says, "specifically, if i am a Noble of Archery, I need a bow, so I want to pump it up with mystical powers" [nobilis] Birralee asks (of GM), "oh?" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "how much is it with a gift of aspect?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Sigh, anyhow, been working on Spellslinger." [nobilis] GM says (to Thalia), "Tell me what you want it to do, and you may or may not need to spend character points on it." [whiz-games] inky says, "that's good" [whiz-games] * SmallTable has left the channel. [whiz-games] inky asks, "what do you have left to iron out for that?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Heh, that was fast." [whiz-games] inky says, "you're scarin' the furniture" [whiz-games] katre says, "(that was me, in my rpg-playing guise)" [whiz-games] katre says, "well, rpg-observing" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Lotsa stuff still." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Heh." [nobilis] Thalia says, "essentially that i have perfect accuracy on that bow regardless of the distance" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "I think I worked out the maverick today though." [whiz-games] inky asks, "oh? what do they do?" [nobilis] GM says (to Birralee), "Yep. Drop Global to Local, make it Simple." [nobilis] Birralee says, "ah" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Well, I beefed up their core ability a bit more." [nobilis] Thalia says, "and one of my things i would like the bow to be able to do - if the scenario comes up - is say, if someone is shooting with a rifle from somewhere at someone, when they shoot, i can shoot my arrows from this bow and divert/stop the bullet" [nobilis] GM asks (of Thalia), "and what aspect do you want for yourself?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Not sure if you've heard about that before though." [nobilis] Thalia says, "obviously, this wouldn't work if the sniper has a machine gun" [nobilis] Thalia says, "at the moment it's two" [nobilis] Thalia says, "i am debating pumping to 3" [whiz-games] inky says, "I'm not sure" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "also, there is no cost for limitations, right?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Anyhow, they get +2 skill points at every level, even in other classes, they can use any skill untrained, and they get to pick one class skill that they do a 2k1 thing on whenever they make checks with it." [nobilis] GM would, hm, base this on Marsiglio's claw. [nobilis] Nathan says, "limitations are free and give you bonus miracle points if they cause problems for you, I think" [nobilis] GM says, "Yep" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "The 2k1 for the skill is new." [nobilis] Nathan says, "(or some give you a fixed number of miracle points at the start of the story, like focus)" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Then for their non-core abilities, they first get bonus feats like a fighter, only geared for the maverick (all the classes get bonus feats in spellslinger)." [whiz-games] inky says, "that's pretty cool" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "They get Con Job, which is bonuses to deceive skill." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Then Light-Fingered, which is bonuses to any skill that uses their light touch (need to work it out still)." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "They also have the best initiative bonuses out of any class." [nobilis] GM says, "um. aspect 8 (what penetration would you like?)" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "And they get up to 3 rerolls a day." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Up to 4 heroic surges per day." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "And last, snake oil salesman, which is kinda like the faceman's bald-faced lie ability." [whiz-games] inky asks, "what is a heroic surge?" [nobilis] Thalia asks (of GM), "?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Let's you sort of haste yourself for a few rounds." [nobilis] GM asks, "Do you want to be able to shoot nobles with this?" [nobilis] Thalia says, "i think i am gonna borrow Kiz's book for the campaign. i really don't remember much" [whiz-games] inky says, "cool" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Gives you the extra partial action, but not the AC bonuses, etc." [nobilis] GM says, "You can build penetration into the bow, if you want, or spend it at the time, I think." [nobilis] Thalia says, "yes i do" [nobilis] Thalia says, "(go all out, why don't i?)" [nobilis] Thalia says, "build in to the bow" [whiz-games] inky says, "not bad" [nobilis] GM says, "okay. this will be pretty expensive, so hold onto your hat." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Of course, they do get the shitty BAB." [nobilis] Thalia cringes [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Which sux, but someone has to get it." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "And they seem the most likely suspect." [nobilis] GM says, "it'll be cool. I'll give you price and then what you can do with it and we can negotiate down from there. :-)" [nobilis] Nathan asks, "is her bow really as expensive as his claw?" [nobilis] Thalia says (to rest of the gang), "just the bow and one more thing - then i will stop hogging the GM's attention, i promise" [nobilis] Nathan says, "he could cut, like, rainbows and oceans and stuff with it" [nobilis] Nathan says, "(admittedly, she wants it to work as far as possible, so)" [nobilis] GM says, "Yup, and she said she wanted to shoot somebody regardless of distance. So, Aspect 8, and she can shoot down the sun or the moon, if she wants. Though I'm tempted to make it 'line of sight' just so I can make the costing work out better." [nobilis] Thalia says, "line of sight sounds fair enough" [nobilis] Thalia says, "i mean, it makes sense that i can't shoot something i can't see" [nobilis] Thalia says, "(i will just have to make sure i have great eyesight)" Thalia eats carrots [nobilis] Nathan says, "hee hee" [nobilis] GM says, "Do you actually want the ability to shoot down heavenly bodies in case of an emergency, as well as people's shadows and so forth? I'm at around 10 cp right now; it can get cheaper if you want to toss out the metaphysics. Though the metaphysics are awfully cool." Chiara has connected. [nobilis] Thalia says, "no metaphysics" [nobilis] Thalia says, "i don't need to shoot at the sun or the stars (sorry nathan)" [nobilis] Nathan says, "it seems way safer for me this way" [nobilis] Pete says, "Well, you can still shoot them, I'd think." [nobilis] GM says, "Okay. That drops it to 8 points, looks like, for an Aspect 6, Penetration 5 bow." [nobilis] Pete says, "You just won't really be able to notice much of an effect." [nobilis] Nathan says, "heh" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "what can this do?" [nobilis] Nathan asks, "I dunno, are you allowed to pump up the bow with aspect miracle points?" [nobilis] Pete says, "Perhaps someone with *really* good vision wouldnotice the little 'pfft' when the arrow burned up in the sun's corona." [nobilis] Thalia juggles other stuff to see if she has 8 points [nobilis] GM says, "er, Aspect 6 for shooting things, only." [nobilis] GM says, "You can shoot anything you can see, and a noble or Excrucian will have to do some pretty fancy footwork to avoid it." [nobilis] Thalia asks, "that's if i have aspect 2?" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "will the cost of the bow go down if i bump to aspect 3?" [nobilis] GM says, "Plus, your arrows break the sound barrier if you want them. This is irrelevant of your Aspect." [nobilis] Thalia says, "woot" [nobilis] Nathan says, "ha" [nobilis] Nathan says, "excellent" [nobilis] GM says, "I don't really know how to cost stuff variably against stats." [nobilis] Nathan says (to GM), "that's what lpsmith was asking about before with his skateboard" [nobilis] Nathan says, "I don't think there's a way to do it" [nobilis] Nathan says, "(probably for the best)" [nobilis] GM says, "Yah, and I'm not sure if there's a good way to do it." [nobilis] Pete says, "It's a shame." [nobilis] GM says, "Other than borrowing the focus of a Noble with Aspect 6. Er, Imperator." [nobilis] Pete . o O ( Maybe someone who's writing Nobilis sourcebooks could invent one... ) [nobilis] GM giggles. GM asks, "Birralee, did you resolve your shapeshifting difficulty?" [nobilis] Birralee exclaims, "when she's done, I'm next!" [nobilis] Thalia says (to birralee), "talk away." Nathan says, "yeah, we're just going to pour him into a box" [nobilis] Thalia says, "i need to figure out if i can afford 8 points" Nathan asks, "her?" Birralee says, "aHIM" Pete says, "You look like a Gravity I once know." [nobilis] Nathan says (to Thalia), "if you're willing to have it be ineffective against more powerful nobilis you can lower the cost" Birralee says (to Pete), "yeah, I haven't changed my description yet" [nobilis] Nathan says, "I don't know if that's a good move or not" [nobilis] GM says, "Yes, every point of Penetration you drop directly drops the cost." [nobilis] Birralee says (to GM), "So if I understand it, I'll need shapeshifting to go between my original version and human." [nobilis] Thalia asks, "works on some nobilis, not all?" [nobilis] Nathan says, "(since, right, the penetration has to be higher than their spirit score)" [nobilis] GM says, "Well, you can do it as Guising, but otherwise, yes." [nobilis] Birralee says, "yeah, I was thinking Aspect 1, which means no guising" Thalia sits at the SmallTable, making calculations [nobilis] GM says, "Higher than? Equal? I can't remember." Nathan says, "rowr" [nobilis] Nathan says, "uh, I don't know" SmallTable hums quietly to itself. [nobilis] Nathan says, "I guess it must be equal" [nobilis] Nathan says, "since penetration 0 has some meaning" [nobilis] GM says, "Me neither, but oh, that's a good point." [nobilis] zarf says, "i think 0 meant "works on mortals"" [nobilis] zarf (vaguely recalling reading this a year and a half ago) [nobilis] Thalia asks, "penetration is equal to aspect, right?" [nobilis] Birralee says, "okay. Let's talk about a piercing scream/shriek" [nobilis] Nathan says (to Thalia), "no, it's on top of the rest of the miracle" [nobilis] Thalia says, "oh wait. i will wait my turn again" Pete says, "(What's with all this channelling?)" [nobilis] Nathan says, "so you're paying, I guess, 3 points for the super-bow-accuracy, and 5 points to have it affect even powerful nobilis" [nobilis] Birralee says, "I'm not sure exactly what I want it to do, mind you" [nobilis] Thalia says (to nathan), "i meant the thing i have to equal or exceed for penetration to work" [nobilis] Nathan asks (of Birralee), "make people cover their ears?" [nobilis] Nathan says (to Thalia), "oh, their spirit score" [nobilis] Birralee says (to Nathan), "that's what my singing is for" [nobilis] Pete asks (of Birralee), "Poke holes in things?" [nobilis] GM says, "Betcha money it costs 1 point." [nobilis] Nathan says (to Pete), "that would be cool" Thalia asks (of Pete), "wanna play a round of cards with me?" [nobilis] Birralee says, "my singing you get for free" [nobilis] Nathan says, "hee hee" Thalia says, "careful though. I think this table cheats" [nobilis] GM says, "Abuse Mundanes with limited physical power is almost always 1 point." [nobilis] Nathan says, "ha ha" GM has to idle for about fifteen minutes to go home because her ride is here. My apologies. GM will be back soon. Thalia says, "that's fine" Nathan says, "man, fifteen minutes" Thalia says, "we will pick Nathan's brain" Nathan says, "I stare enviously at your commute" Pete asks (of Thalia), "Sure. Did you bring a deck?" Pete asks, "Whoops. GM-less?" Thalia looks at the SmallTable Thalia says, "> GIVE CARDS" Nathan draws a card from the sorte deck: the Knight of Staves. Pete says, "We can help Birralee design his scream." Birralee says, "Good point" Nathan says, "I vote for "aoooogah"" Emily draws a card from the sorte deck. What the heck kind of card *is* that? Nathan says, "high-pitched screams are so overrated" Birralee says, "I'm thinking of being able to do screamy things like break stuff" Thalia asks, "like a banshee?" Pete draws a card from the sorte deck. What the heck kind of card *is* that? Thalia draws a card from the sorte deck. What the heck kind of card *is* that? Emily draws a card from the sorte deck. What the heck kind of card *is* that? Pete draws a card from the sorte deck: the Seven of Coins (inverted). Birralee says, "quite possibly, yes" Thalia asks, "do you want to drive people mad?" Pete says, "Sounds like Aspect 2 or 3. Probably 3." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Oh, I've redone with gunfighter a bit too." Birralee says, "hm. minor destruction is 5" [whiz-games] inky asks, "howso?" Birralee says, "though that's a domain thing" [Crows-Nest] Thalia says, "i *was* kidding about the deck of cards." Nathan says, "or as a creation of sound or vibration" [Crows-Nest] Thalia says, "i didn't know we already had one" Pete says (to Birralee), "Yeah, I'm just looking at Aspect." Pete says, "Since presumably with a high enough aspect, breaking things with a scream is pretty easy." Birralee says, "good point" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Changed around his numerical progressions some, made it so he can be intimidated by those 4 levels higher than him, but he ignore morale penalties now." Thalia asks (of birralee), "what's your domain?" [whiz-games] inky says, "hmm" Birralee says (to Thalia), "Spin" Thalia asks, "I would think an aspect of 2 or 3 should be high enough for screams that high, right?" Thalia says (to birralee), "okay, that makes me think of a washing machine" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Also, I took away his blinding speed init bonus, since all classes have an init progression now." Birralee says, "presuming I don't want to scream down comets for Nathan" [whiz-games] inky says, "hunh, interesting" Pete says, "Yeah. For the sake of argument, let's say 3." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "I haven't figured out what to replace it with yet though." [whiz-games] inky asks, "so along with BAB and saves there's an init column?" Pete asks, "Local effect?" Thalia says, "yeah" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "And an AC column." Thalia says, "it seems a bit pointless to have a global effect" Birralee says, "local" Pete asks, "Complete, Comprehensive, Limited, or One-Trick?" Pete says, "One-trick would probably be jsut 'break glass'." Nathan says, "hmm" Birralee says, "yeah, it shouldn't be any lower than limited to be useful" Kaylee arrives, looking for booty. Pete says, "Limited would probably include other destructive-type things, like injuring eardrums or shaking rickety walls." Pete says, "At a guess." Nathan says, "I would have said the one trick is 'screaming' and the other things all can be done with that" Nathan says, "but I think the aspect required is low enough that it doesn't matter, it'll still be one point" [nobilis] Kaylee waves. [nobilis] Nathan says, "hey hey" [nobilis] Birralee says, "howdy" [nobilis] Thalia says, "heya" [nobilis] Kaylee says, "Not that I have a very fleshed out character concept yet, but I thought I'd at least say hi." [nobilis] Kaylee says, "(This is Lucian)" [nobilis] Thalia says (to kaylee), "we are fleshing out ours as we speak" Pete says, "Yeah. A level 3 Aspect miracle, -1 for simple, -1 for local, -2 for limited is a one point gift." [nobilis] Kaylee says, "Well hey." [nobilis] Thalia says, "i think nathan is the only one who already knows what he wants" [nobilis] Kaylee asks, "Are we gaming pre-ennoblement, or after?" [nobilis] Pete says, "Ah, so you might be playing? Yay." [nobilis] Thalia says, "both i thought" Nathan says, "hmm" Nathan says, "it seems like if you wanted to bump it to aspect 5 you could make a noise with your scream as loud as a machine could be made to" Nathan says, "which is potentially pretty loud" Birralee says, "heck, with that I could go to 5 -- yeah" Pete says, "If you don't care about penetration, and if you consider screaming to be one-trick, then you can even make your scream up to Aspect 6." Pete says, "Timing." Nathan says, "I don't know what happens at level 6" Nathan says, "maybe you can shatter rocks" Pete says, "The Imperator asks us to turn it down." Nathan says, "hee hee" Thalia says, "nah. play it on the rural side, there is no one to be bothered" Nathan says, ""One more peep out of you, and I'm calling Lord Entropy"" [whiz-games] Whizzard asks, "Were you around for the birthrights?" [whiz-games] inky says, "nope" [whiz-games] inky says, "I must have missed a bunch" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Ah." [whiz-games] inky says, "maybe when I was in england" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Prolly." Birralee says, "I'll see what the GM has to say, and think about penetration" Nathan says, "rowr" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Birthrights are 1-level classes that you have to take at 1st level if you want one." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "So, if you take a birthright, you don't get the core ability of any of the classes." [whiz-games] inky says, "hunh, interesting" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "But that's ok, cuz the birthrights are hefty." Birralee exclaims, "you're not the duke of innuendo!" [whiz-games] inky asks, "what sorts of things?" Kaylee says, "It doesn't take a duke to take that one too far." Thalia says, "hee" Pete says, "I've got a gift that I'm working on, but I'm pretty sure it's one point, so I'm not too worried." Nathan says, "I couldn't think of any good gifts, so I am just taking Durant" Thalia says, "back to my bow, although this may depend on the GM's coming back" Nathan says, "it is very boring" Kaylee says, "Immortal was fun." Thalia asks, "if i lower penetration to 3 - it will kill some nobles, right? just not all?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "There's: magi (wizard with one milky white eye), black hand (magekiller sort), steelheart (molds metal like clay), skinwalker (native doppleganger type), and pale rider (has a ghost steed and a death touch)." Birralee says (to nathan), "how about the ability to call down a rain of pointy spiky stars" Kaylee says, "I got to hold my breath indefinintely." Thalia says, "er not kill - but attack" Birralee says, "or a star pony" Pete says (to Nathan), "I think Flight's pretty handy." Thalia says, "as is invisibility and elemental" Nathan says, "basically if you don't make penetration, it loses its miraculous power within a few feet of the nobilis" Kaylee says, "Yeah, we used flight all the time." Birralee exclaims, "I can climb trees!" Nathan says, "yeah, I was thinking about flight" Thalia asks (of nathan), "and penetration is based on spirit?" Nathan says, "it seemed like it might come under my domain already" Pete says (to Thalia), "Right, and you'll be able to spend extra points at the time to be able to hit those who are well-protected." Nathan says, "penetration has to be greater than or equal than spirit for that not to happen" Pete says, "I think." Nathan says, "yeah, that's what she said" Thalia says, "huh. i think i am gonna lower the penetration and spend when i need it, then" GM back. Nathan says, "realistically most people aren't going to have more than spirit 2 or 3, but if we come up against somebody tough it'll be more expensive at that point to hit them a couple times" Thalia says, "yay" Kaylee says (to GM), "Hey there." [whiz-games] inky says, "wow" Thalia says (to gm), "go talk to others, and then we can finalize sale of my bow" GM reads scroll. [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "All birthrights have a mark that goes with them." [whiz-games] inky says, "I agree those are pretty slick" [Crows-Nest] SmallTable says (to natahn), "nice job of answering a question factually while simultaneously making a sneering innuendo" Kaylee says, "I was thinking of going with a high-spirit character." [Crows-Nest] Nathan says, "hee hee" Thalia says (to kaylee), "good thing i won't be shooting at you" Kaylee says, "Heh." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "The magi has his eye, the black hand has a black hand, the steelheart has a metal birthmark over his heart, the skinwalker has a crescent moon pattern in his fur when not disguised, and the pale rider has a black handprint on his cheek." GM asks, "Yay Kaylee! Do you have a domain?" GM should log and post discussion you missed. Kaylee says, "Hmm. It's still between the Lost Domain and Secrets for me, but I'm leaning towards the Lost Domain." [Crows-Nest] (from Thalia) Kaylee says, "yeah, it's http://www.bioc.rice.edu/~lpsmith/IF/7thSea/nobilis/" GM says, "Oh yes, yay, I remember that." Pete asks, "Lost Domain?" Pete asks, "Is that like the Lost Chancel?" Kaylee says (to Pete), "I can't remember what my domain was." Thalia says, "woot. A man that never asks for directions so he is perpetually lost" Nathan says, "ha" Kaylee says, "It's as if it was Excruciated, but I'm still around, so it must exist in some pocket somewhere." Birralee asks (of GM), "did you see our discussion re: scream in scrollback?" GM did, but was unclear what you specifically wanted to ask me about. Kaylee says, "Last time, I swore I wasn't going to make a new character without Domain 4, but it looks like I might go with 0 ;-)" Pete says (to GM), "I think the main questions were 'is aspect that only works for screaming limited or one-trick' and 'how much of an aspect miracle is breaking things like glass'." Birralee asks, "Was there anything wrong in our discussion? And what level of aspect would be needed?" GM says, "Screaming ASpect is one-trick, I think." GM asks, "breaking glass isn't more than Aspect 2, I'd expect. Don't opera singers do that sometimes?" Birralee says, "they do" GM says, "aspect that only worked for talking would be limited." Birralee asks, "so if I wanted a more amped version I could do that, yes?" Pete says, "I don't think real opera singers do, but I think they could, if they cared more about sheer force than actual tonal quality." GM er, for vocal stuff, I mean, and would include singing and atlking and screaming Pete says, "(Assuming I correctly remember what Stacey said.)" GM says, "aspect 5 screaming would be able to be inhumanly loud." Birralee asks, "Hm, so I could have it aspect 4, penetration 2, to be able to scream apart less fragile things?" [nobilis] Kaylee asks, "So should I go with high Spirit or high Realm? Anyone have something high in one or the other yet?" GM hm. GM looks at book. [nobilis] Pete says, "The GM's suggested that we'll be doing a fair amount of chancelly stuff." [nobilis] Thalia says, "i think a high spirit would be cool" [nobilis] GM says, "Um, I know Child of X is 2 Realm and 0 Domain, but not if she plans on being an Inferno or a Tempest or very Gifted." [nobilis] Thalia says, "although a high realm would help us get a decent chancel" [nobilis] Birralee says, "I'm planning spirit 3 realm 2" [nobilis] Kaylee asks, "Child of X?" [nobilis] Thalia says (to kaylee), "Storme" [Crows-Nest] Thalia says, "oh yeah, I was planning on doing a Noble of Storm originally" [Crows-Nest] Thalia says, "the little SmallTable over there had to talk me out of it" [Crows-Nest] Pete asks, "Because he didn't want Oggb to keep getting distracted every time your domain came up?" GM would imagine an Aspect 4 scream could kill or seriously screw up a mortal. So with Pen 2, you could theoretically disorient a low-auctoritus noble. Birralee says, "ooo" Birralee says, "let's do that" [Crows-Nest] Thalia says, "well he figured you lot would on purpose mis-spell my domain and get on her nerves" [whiz-games] Whizzard asks, "You busy running and/or playing in the game?" GM says, "Does that still work out to 1 or 0 points? Because I'm trying to decide if I should tack on 'uncommon'." Birralee says, "Lesse. that'd be 6 - 1 for simple - 1 for local - 3 for limited" Birralee says, "I believe" Nathan says, "-3 for one-trick, but same deal" [whiz-games] inky says, "I'm playing, chrysoula's running" Birralee says, "whoops, right" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Ok, I don't feel TOO bad then. I thought I was bugging you in mid-GM." [whiz-games] inky says, "hee hee" [whiz-games] inky says, "these marks seem pretty cool" GM hmmmm. [whiz-games] inky asks, "what is the equivalent thing that you're giving up with, like, the maverick or the gunslinger?" GM says, "Thing about screams is that they're not fully targeted. If you're okay with that, I'm okay with 1 point and don't feel like it needs an Uncommon." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Well, with the maverick, it's the jack of all trades thing. (2 skill points/level, any skill untrained, choose a skill, get +4 to it and roll 2k1 with it)." Birralee says, "Hm. that could be trouble" Pete says (to BirraleeRemember), "to remind us to stand behind you." Thalia asks, "would birralee's screams affect us too?" Birralee asks, "if I do targetted, make it uncommon and bump down penetration by 1?" [whiz-games] inky says, "hmm, yeah, tough choice" [whiz-games] inky says, "but it is cool to have a little extra background thing" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "With the gunfighter it's the true grit ability (immune to fear, morale penalties, can only be intimidated by someone 4 levels higher, roll 2k1 when gaining HD." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Yeah." Nathan says, "then I can stand in front of you with my spirit 2" Nathan says, ""sound loud at all to you guys?" I will ask casually" Birralee says, "hee hee" Thalia says, "heh" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "I figure if I were to run it, I wouldn't let anyone have the same core ability/birthright." [whiz-games] inky says, "that makes sense" [whiz-games] inky says, "it seems like it would be useful to have a little section on making a party in this handbook" [whiz-games] inky says, "since everyone is more similar than in other games" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "The trailblazer's is clean living: feels uneasy when failing to detect an ambush, always acts during surprise rounds, choose a save, get +2 to it and roll 2k1 for it." GM says, "They would affect people with Spirit 2 or lower, as is. Bumped down, unlikely unless you're in a liplock or grapple with whoever he targets and have no more than Spirit 1." Nathan says, "ha ha" GM says, "okay, the log of the discussion Kaylee missed is is at http://nobilis.dreamfarmer.net" Birralee says, "I think I'd like to target it, since otherwise it's rather indiscriminate" Kaylee says, "Hey, thanks." GM asks, "Okay. So, 1 point, 1 penetration, Aspect 4 scream?" Birralee says, "with the ability to focus it, sure" GM says, "I should note that if it DOES kill humans (I'll decide on a case-by-case basis) it will probably be... messy." Nathan says, "I'm not cleaning up after you, mister" Birralee says, "eek" [whiz-games] Whizzard asks, "I forget, can you read word docs?" GM . o O ( kick head ) Birralee says, "Don't make me angry. I'd get shrill when I'm angry." Nathan says, "ha ha ha" GM laughs. Thalia says, "do it in the urban areas then - humans have police departments and stuff to clean up messes" Nathan says, "and janitors" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "I was gonna put some files up on my website." Birralee says, "I promise to use this mainly to shiver doors to flinders" [whiz-games] inky says, "yeah, that works" GM says, "Thalia: you will be starting out as a human and I'll let you know when you can revert/remember centaur stuff, just so that's clear. Unless you'd rather be a horse or something." Thalia says (to GM), "well that was my second question after the bow" [whiz-games] inky says, "(or I suppose you can save as text if they don't have formatting)" GM will also give you the bow at some point early on. [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Heh, sorry, they've got those tables." [whiz-games] inky says, "ah, rigt" [whiz-games] inky says, "well, word is fine for me" Thalia says, "i want to start out as human, and then when i become a noble, become a centaur (not the shape of one, but truly become one). but i want mortals who see me to see only a horse, not a centaur, though nobles can see me as a centaur" Thalia asks, "is this guising?" GM says, "Um." GM asks, "What do you plan on doing in the mundane world?" Kaylee says, "It would depend on the inherent nature of centaurs, I would think." GM would suggest the 1 point shapeshifting and being able to go between human, centaur and horse at will. Kaylee says, "Like, if centaurs already walk among us, they probably look like horses to us." Thalia says (to gm), "dunno really. just wanting to make sure that mortals don't freak out at seeing centaurs, though i like kaylee's solution" GM says, "Guising is a noble thing, though, not a centaur thing, and makes you look like the highest form of life in the region." GM says, "Which would be human unless you're in an unpopulated area." [nobilis] Thalia asks, "kaylee is a he or she?" [nobilis] Kaylee says, "Kaylee is my D&D character, who was a she." [nobilis] Kaylee says, "Haven't picked a nobilis name." Pete . o O ( We should try guising at an Imperator convention... ) GM says, "I think 1 point of shapeshifting would make climbing stairs and taking elevators in apartment buildings easier." Nathan says, "yeah, good point" Nathan says, "also airplanes" Thalia says (to GM), "also, i would like to lower my penetration to 3 on the bow" Thalia asks, "how much does that cost, and how effective is it now?" GM says, "Or you could go with guising, if you have Aspect 2, but that would make you human usually, not a horse." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Ok. They're in my website in a /Spellslinger dir." GM asks, "Raise your hand if you're planning on having Spirit 4 or 5 in here?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "One sec and I can swing a URL." [Crows-Nest] Thalia says, "okay, the point of all this is so that i can play a horse, sigh" Thalia says, "Kaylee and Child of X, I thought" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "http://home.earthlink.net/~wizzard1/Spellslinger/" [whiz-games] inky says, "cool" Kaylee says, "I hadn't picked between spirit or Realm yet." Kaylee says, "But was leaning towards Realm." GM says, "Okay, so you can shoot everybody else in here and they have to do a miracle to get out of the way." Nathan says, "hee hee" GM asks, "Subtract 2 from the cost I said earlier. That makes it 6?" Thalia says, "yeah" [whiz-games] Whizzard adds a 1/round limit to the maverick's fast as lightning ability. Thalia says, "aspect 6, penetration 3 makes it 6 points" Thalia asks, "last question, and then i will make my decision. does the lowering of aspect to 5 make it cheaper?" Thalia asks, "or is lowering of aspect pointless?" GM hm. Nathan says, "even for the higher-spirit people, if you create a sonic boom next to them, they're going to have to deal with that" [whiz-games] inky says, "ha ha ha" [whiz-games] inky | Gunfighters mostly just drift around, kicking ass and chewing tobacco. [whiz-games] inky | Like ninja they are not only totally sweet but also awesome [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Heh, that's my generic class description." [whiz-games] inky asks, "hmm, I assume monsters are also going to get an init bonus?" GM says, "ASpect 5 would make it cheaper, but specifically describes Aspect 5 as archery at 300 meters, so you would no longer have the distance-is-irrelevant thing." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Yeah." Thalia says, "okay, 6 points for a bow" Thalia says, "sold" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Monsters will get additional init bonus equal to their CR, prolly." [whiz-games] inky says, "makes sense" Pete asks, "Is it anyone else's turn, or should I do my gift now?" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "email address so i can mail my character sheet?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "But I mean, in a western, ya gotta have initiative stuff like that." [whiz-games] inky asks, "do you have to pick the magi birthright to cast spells?" [nobilis] GM says, "exstarsis@msn.com" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Arcane spells, yeah." [nobilis] Nathan says, "oh yeah" GM says, "Sounds like you're up" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "You need to start as a native to cast divine spells." [nobilis] Rob says, "oh yeah, it's tuesday" [nobilis] Nathan says, "ohhh yeah" [nobilis] GM exclaims, "Wanna play? Yay!" [whiz-games] inky says, "interesting" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "One of the features of Spellslinger is the breakdown of the clerical orders." [nobilis] Rob asks, "Nathan, eh?" Pete says, "OK. I ahe two things (a gift and a handicap) that I want to have use special vessels (created by an arcane ritual of some sort)." Pete says, "Have, even." [whiz-games] jnc asks, "So how do I play the traveling preacher?" [whiz-games] jnc says, "Ah." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "You take the padre feat." Pete says, "For the gift, I want to be able to teleport from inside of any such vessel to inside any other one that I know about." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Which makes you a man of the cloth, but not a spellslinging cleric." [nobilis] Rob says, "I guess I've missed two hours of stuff already" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "It'll have other benefits though." [nobilis] GM says, "It's just character creation. Come right on in." [nobilis] Rob says, "recap full of strange names" [nobilis] Rob comes right on in. [nobilis] GM says, "Though it's worth noting the new schedule in the bulletin board." Pete asks, "I'm guessing it's a lesser change of location, -1 simple, -3 self, -2 limited?" [whiz-games] inky asks, "hmm, so is the healing all in the hands of the natives?" Emily is whisked away by a violet beam of violent energy! [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Nah, magi have access to healing spells." GM says, "Um, hm." GM asks, "Does it work off earth?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "I didn't want to relegate anyone into the 'healer' role." [whiz-games] inky says, "makes sense" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Also, the heal skill actually heals damage." Pete asks, "By 'off Earth', do you mean on other worlds, or inside chancels?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "As opposed to just looking neat." Nathan says, "or across those" [nobilis] Rob asks, "so who is everybody?" [nobilis] Birralee says, "I'm Sargent" [Crows-Nest] Pete is Jota. [nobilis] Pete is Jota. [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "You can treat someone 1/day, and they gain back HP equal to your skill roll -15 (min 0)." [nobilis] GM says, "You can find logs of earlier discussion at http://nobilis.dreamfarmer.net/" [nobilis] Nathan says, "I'm the lovable young scamp who turns out to be a jedi" Pete says, "I'm assuming there will only be a handful of these objects in circulation, so I doubt any will be taken to other branches of Yggdrasil, unless we go there ourselves." [whiz-games] inky says, "not bad" GM says, "Muahahahhaha." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Rather, I should say, each person can be treated 1/day total." Kaylee asks, "Does the jar allow anyone to use it, or just you?" GM says, "greater change of location is /anywhere/. lesser change is just 'earth central', probably. Maybe in chancels, but it depends on the chancel" [nobilis] Rob asks, "what domains are people?" Pete says, "I was figuring just me. Otherwise, it'd be a focus, and it'd be weird to have a focus in an object that you could make several of." Kaylee says, "I thought all items were focuses." [whiz-games] inky asks, "does light-fingered also apply to stuff like pick pockets, find traps, etc? or do those skills not exist here?" GM says, "Nope." Pete says (to GM), "I'd just go with Earth and participating chancels then." Nathan says, "only if they hold some of your power" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Heist, Build/Repair, etc. cover those things. I condensed the skill list." Nathan says, "if it's just "I can make these jars and move between them" they're not focuses" Pete says (to Kayleee), "Well, this is more like 'I can teleport to any McDonald's', except a *lot* more limited." Kaylee asks, "But that includes 'points that you use during character creation', no?" Nathan says, "(or, well, they're not Focuses of the power, although they may be focuses)" [nobilis] Thalia says, "duchess is thalia, domain is archery" Nathan says, "yes, but if the jar vanishes he doesn't lose the power" GM says, "Add uncommon in there, and yeah." [nobilis] Pete says, "I'm wish-fulfillment." [whiz-games] inky says, "ah, ok" [nobilis] Nathan says, "I am Stars" Pete says, "No, since new jars can be made." Kaylee says, "Ah, so the gift is 'can use Jars of Thaumagurg' or whatever." [nobilis] Nathan says, "of stage and screen" Nathan says, "hee hee" Pete says (to GM), "Hmm. OK, so I won't take any penetration :)" Pete says (to Kaylee), "Right." [nobilis] Birralee says, "I'm Spin" [nobilis] Thalia asks (of nathan), "oh wait. you aren't the stars in the heaven?" [nobilis] Rob says, "'I wish all were right with the world and the good guys win! hooray!'" GM asks, "What would penetration do anyhow?" [nobilis] Rob says, "Spin? hmm" Kaylee says, "That means that someone else could probably show up in your jar, of course." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "There's about 23 skills in Spellslinger." [nobilis] Nathan says (to Thalia), "well, I thought Rob would relate to this version better" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "doesn't that make you think of a washing machine?" Pete says, "It'd make it work if a non-cooperating Noble were holding a jar, I'm figuring." [nobilis] Rob says (to nathan), "heh" [nobilis] Rob says, "no, it made me think of quarks" Pete says (to Kaylee), "Yeah, if anyone else has the gift to use djinn bottles." SmallTable says, "enjoy, all" SmallTable goes home. Kaylee nods. [nobilis] Rob says, "hm, I've forgotten how the character creation process works" Kaylee says, "Oh, the genie bottles! Gotcha." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "I wanted characters to have a broader skill range at their disposal in general." [nobilis] Rob says, "I think I barely understood it the first time, but managed to bluff my way through it" [whiz-games] inky says, "yeah" Kaylee asks, "Are you taking 'summonable'?" GM hm, probably true. But probably not worth it. [nobilis] Rob says, "but only because inky didn't look very closely" Pete says, "Yup, that's the second part." [whiz-games] inky says, "well, it doesn't make sense to have to devote a lot of skill points to old-school rogue stuff if the campaign isn't going to spend a lot of time on them" GM asks, "Have you worked out how you're getting into the jars?" [nobilis] Nathan says, "I had my eye on you the whole time, mister" Pete says (to GM), "Limited shapeshifting, including smoke as one form." [nobilis] GM is friendly and helpful. Look at Thalia's nifty bow. [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Right, and I just wanted the same skill points to go further in Spellslinger." GM says, "Excellent." [nobilis] Rob says, "there's some funny word wrap going on in discussion2.txt" [nobilis] GM says, "Yeah, I didn't have time to edit it it, I just threw it up for latecomers." [nobilis] Rob says, "blorp" [nobilis] Rob says, "so you have some number of points you spread over various aspects or somesuch" [nobilis] Nathan says, "yes" Pete says, "For the handicap, I'd like each vessel to have a method of 'activating' it -- saying the right magic words, or rubbing it, or whatever the vessel's creators chose when doing the ritual." [nobilis] GM says, "25 points, 4 stats, each level of the stat costs 3 points, and you can buy gifts." GM says, "Okay." [nobilis] Rob says, "I want a dvd player" [nobilis] Nathan says, "the stats being aspect (physical and mental ability), domain (control over your domain), realm (control over your home), spirit (spiritual/noble ability)" [nobilis] Kaylee says, "Oooh, the Power of Tivo" Pete says, "If a jar is activated, I'm summoned into it, and have to grant one wish for either the summoner or (if the container was sealed) whoever lets me out." [nobilis] Rob asks, "hmm, what is this Failing, exactly?" GM exclaims, "Neat!" [nobilis] Nathan says, "the chancel is fading away and needs to be sustained with energy" [nobilis] Rob says (to nathan), "it's all coming back to me" [nobilis] GM says, "The Imperator is dying, basically." Pete says, "(With powers and anchors immune to the wish part, probably.)" Franklin arrives, looking for booty. [nobilis] Franklin says, "voom" [nobilis] Birralee says, "yay Franklin" GM..Franklin We also have a power of X and a power of Anthromophorization (maga, maybe). [nobilis] Franklin says, "hmm" [nobilis] Kaylee asks, "Are we going to be freshly ennobled, or granted our powers by the old set?" [nobilis] Franklin asks, "what does power of X mean?" [whiz-games] Whizzard asks, "Any thoughts on that blank ability in the gunfighter?" [nobilis] GM says, "She's the power of the letter X. She's a small child. In more extended terms, she's roughly equivalent to the Power of Things That Are Yet Unknown." [nobilis] GM says, "She's good at algebra, and finding treasure for which maps exist." [nobilis] GM says, "You are starting pre-ennoblement, even." [nobilis] Franklin asks, "who's playing this X person?" [nobilis] GM says, "As I wish to play through the process of enoblement." [nobilis] GM says, "Storme" [nobilis] Thalia says, "storme" [whiz-games] inky says, "well" Pete asks, "Throwing in... 'can't leave or harm "master" except in order to grant the wish', and breaking the summoning if the vessel is destroyed (an out clause, in casethe 'master' won't make a wish), how many MP should I list for that?" [nobilis] GM says, "So basically we are making characters and imperator stats and chancel stats and I will hand stuff out during the first few sessions as you deal with your wild and wacky imperators and their unorthodox enchancellation." Pete says, "I wasn't sure if it was 2 like the standard summon, or 3 because of the added wish." [whiz-games] inky says, "you have "threat range increases" "damage increases" "aim better against concealment"" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Yep/" GM asks, "Can you break the vessel?" [whiz-games] inky says, "I assume you don't want to have "attack more often" or you'd have that already" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "The maverick gets that one." [whiz-games] inky asks, "although maybe some equivalent of the flurry of blows thing?" [whiz-games] inky says, "ah, ok" [whiz-games] inky says, "um, and I suppose he gets trick shots also" [whiz-games] jnc says, "Quick draw's obvious." [whiz-games] inky asks, "what about some ability to improve a particular weapon's quality?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says (to jnc), "They already have init mods." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Hmm." [whiz-games] inky says, "or, um, an ability to hit things not hit with normal weapons, if monsters with that exist" [whiz-games] inky asks, "would some ability to make/conserve ammo be too stupid?" [whiz-games] inky says, "or, um, are you worrying about reloading at all? they could reload better" [nobilis] Franklin asks, "is there a list of Gifts somewhere?" [whiz-games] Whizzard changes gut feeling to an extraordinary ability, since that's bugging him. [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "That's more a feat." [nobilis] Nathan says, "http://www.drizzle.com/~dans/nobilis/gifts.html, I think" [nobilis] Nathan says, "plus, you know, whatever other idea you have" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "This needs to be something that can get better 3 times." [nobilis] Nathan says, "it seems like most people have been making up stuff tonight" [nobilis] GM can also build them for you if you describe what you want to do. Pete says, "I could make it so that only someone other than me can break the vessel." [nobilis] Birralee asks (of GM), "do we pick anchors at this point, if appropriate? or do you want to wait for later in the actual game?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Or be used more times a day, etc." [nobilis] GM says, "Most pureply mortal stuff is only 3 points at most." [whiz-games] inky asks, "how about, um, a thing where you take careful aim and then fire an especially good shot?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Maybe they could automatically 'back up' a crit X times/day." [whiz-games] inky says, "that would be good" [nobilis] GM says, "Mmm, I wouldn't mind an idea of who your anchors are going to be, but if you don't have any ideas, that's okay. I'd mostly want to know if they're in the area so I can deal with them offscreen. Which reminds me." [nobilis] Birralee says, "yeah, I've no idea what my anchors should be" [peanut-gallery] Bishop says, "IRAQI human/yacht hybrid." [nobilis] GM asks, "Out of curiousity, do you guys consider anchors NPCs or alternate PCs?" [nobilis] Franklin says, "ew, purple-y mortal stuff" [nobilis] Nathan asks, "wait, we aren't supposed to have anchors starting out, are we?" [peanut-gallery] inky says, "hee hee" [nobilis] GM says, "No no no" [nobilis] Nathan says, "oh, ok" [nobilis] GM says, "but you might have people you intend on anchoring-- that is, knowing who you love and hate starting out is never a bad thing. Even if you choose somebody else in the course of the game." [peanut-gallery] Ellison asks, "Jordy wasn't that guy, was he?" [nobilis] Nathan says, "mmhmm" [whiz-games] jnc asks, "So if they get a threat that's an auto crit?" [peanut-gallery] inky asks, "you might mean Jstn?" [peanut-gallery] Bishop says, "That was Aargain, IIRC." [peanut-gallery] Ellison says, "ah, ok" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Yeah." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Up to 4 times/day." [peanut-gallery] Ellison says, "that was a wacky day" GM says, "That would be worth 3 points." GM says, "If you could break it, only the standard 2." Pete says, "Nifty." [nobilis] Nathan says, "hmm-te-hmm" [nobilis] Nathan asks, "you can always telepathically communicate with your anchors, right?" [nobilis] GM says, "Yes." [peanut-gallery] Bishop says, "No less wacky for everyone deciding to use IMspeak." [nobilis] Nathan asks, "could you, say, wake them up if they're asleep?" Pete says, "Oh, and of course, a sealed vessel can't be opened from the inside :)" [peanut-gallery] Ellison says, "I think I ended up apologizing to whoever it was I was joking with" [nobilis] GM says, "Well, you could step into your body and get them out of bed, so I'd have to say 'yes'." [nobilis] Thalia asks, "didn't your rules say telepathy requires a realm 2?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "It combos well with the deadly aim ability." [nobilis] Nathan says (to GM), "ah, but I'm taking Light Touch" [nobilis] GM says, "With your familia." [peanut-gallery] Bishop says, "Aw, you shouldn't have. It was classic." [nobilis] GM exclaims (at Nathan), "Depends on how deep a sleeper they are!" [nobilis] Nathan says, "hee hee" [nobilis] Nathan exclaims, "heLOOOO! heLLOOO!!" [nobilis] Kaylee asks, "Oh, there are new telepathy rules?" [nobilis] Franklin furiously spins his mental wheels, trying to think of something [nobilis] Nathan says, "I can see we're going to have to work on this relationship" [nobilis] Franklin says, "hey, Wheels" [nobilis] Nathan says (to Kaylee), "you should look at the list of rules on the nobilis.dreamfarmer site" [nobilis] Franklin says, "except there's already spin" [nobilis] Kaylee says, "Aha." [nobilis] GM should go add her rules on prayer there. [nobilis] (from Nathan) Franklin . o O ( voom -> VROOM ) [nobilis] Franklin says, "yay" [nobilis] Birralee says, "hee hee" [nobilis] Nathan says (to Franklin), "we're talking about an urban/rural split chancel" [nobilis] Nathan says (to Franklin), "if that helps any" [nobilis] Nathan says, "by which I mean, CORN" [nobilis] GM adds her prayer comments. [nobilis] Kaylee asks, "OK, if I take a high Realm, and create something in the chancel, then take it out of the chancel, how long does it exist?" [nobilis] GM exclaims, "I should note that overlapping domains are really okay. After all, you're arising from the same god-soul. Unless, of course, you're from different imperators. But even so!" [nobilis] GM says, "I'm going to try to find ties between estates anyhow, thematically, to figure out the grand unifying Imperator theory for each Imperator." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Oh, by the way, check out the gunfighter's 1st level BAB." [nobilis] GM says, "I and the rules, we have a disagreement on that, though apparently my version is just shortcutting the clever player." [nobilis] Franklin asks, "how about Stuff?" [nobilis] GM says, "er, to Kaylee" [nobilis] Franklin says, "I said that just to make myself laugh, and now I'm going hmmm" [nobilis] Kaylee says (to GM), "Heh." [nobilis] GM says (to Franklin), "I'll need a pretty good set of associations for that. Heh." [nobilis] Franklin says, "you know, stuff" [nobilis] GM says (to Kaylee), "(I think the details of my version are in the rules.txt file on the website)" [nobilis] Pete says, "You can double the amount of filling in an oreo." [nobilis] GM asks, "Possessions? Anything that tends to accumulate in a junk drawer?" [nobilis] Nathan says (to Kaylee), "if you create real-world stuff in the chancel, it exists outside permanently" [nobilis] Nathan says (to Kaylee), "unless the chancel has that one fault that tech items decay outside" [nobilis] Nathan says, "if you create special chancel-tech or chancel-magic stuff it only works outside if you spend realm" [nobilis] Franklin says, "I remember last time we had a problem where nobody had much Realm going on at all" [whiz-games] inky says, "cripes" [nobilis] Franklin says (to Pete), "yay" [nobilis] Kaylee says (to GM), "You say a miracle extends the period of time it works, but don't say what the initial length is." [nobilis] Nathan says, "The GM said the chancel is going to be a substantially bigger deal here" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "I wanted differentiation between the 3 BAB progressions at all levels." [nobilis] GM says, "Kevin thinks somebody should be the Power of 100." [nobilis] GM says, "1 day, Kaylee." [nobilis] Kaylee says, "Excellent, thanks." [nobilis] Nathan says, "crazy 88" [nobilis] Nathan asks, "how about hats?" [nobilis] Nathan says, "or, um, hey, you could do stuff with movies" [nobilis] Nathan says, "I don't know if that's too much like your day job" [nobilis] Nathan says, "but it would be a handy domain" [nobilis] Franklin says, "I'm not sure how handy it would be" [nobilis] Birralee says, "hm. I think I'm going to have a focus" [nobilis] GM says, "Darn you all. I can put all of you together under the same Imperator, practically." [nobilis] Nathan says, "c'mon, special effects, popcorn, entertainment, connections at nightclubs" [nobilis] GM says, "Since Movies and Stars under the same imperator would explain about movie stars." [nobilis] Nathan says, "ha ha ha" [nobilis] GM says, "or Celebrity, or Fame, or um..." [whiz-games] Whizzard asks, "Hmm. Any thoughts on a core ability for the native?" [nobilis] GM tries to think of what to call 'people want to throw their underwear at rock stars' [nobilis] Nathan says, "gropers" [nobilis] Nathan says, "I mean, groupies" [nobilis] Franklin says, "I like broader concepts like Inertia or Entropy or something" [nobilis] Franklin says (to nathan), "hmmmMm" [whiz-games] inky says, "it seems like they should have some kind of natural-connection thing" [nobilis] Franklin says, "although I'm not sure what I'd do with them" [nobilis] Nathan says, "oh ho" [nobilis] Birralee says, "with Inertia you'd just sit around" [nobilis] Nathan says, "you might be old but I bet you can figure out what to do with them" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Yeah." [whiz-games] inky says, "but i don't know if this would be like a speak-to-animals thing, or a locate-water thing, or a ask-the-earth-how-many-horsemen-are-coming thing" [nobilis] Franklin says, "well, I could make objects in motion stay in motion and so forth" [whiz-games] inky says, "or a camouflage or transport-via-trees thing" [nobilis] Franklin says, "as well as making things sit there like lumps" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Maybe most of that can be the divine/druid spell thing." [nobilis] Birralee says, "so you'd be able to do what the universe does naturally" [nobilis] Nathan says, "magnetism" [nobilis] GM says, "No Entropy. :-)" [nobilis] Pete says, "And you could invent Inertial Dampners." [nobilis] GM is a bad GM and reserves some estats and so forth for NPCs. [nobilis] Nathan asks, "how about Lenses?" [nobilis] Pete says, "So that the Enterprise can travel at high impulse speeds without making tomato puree out of the crew." [nobilis] Franklin says (to GM), "spoilers!" [nobilis] Nathan says, "or the general idea of Focus" [nobilis] GM exclaims, "Lord Entropy is in the book!" [nobilis] Franklin says, "yeah yeah sure" [nobilis] Nathan asks, "how about tomato puree?" [nobilis] GM exclaims, "With his three powers Devestation, Scorn and Desecration!" [nobilis] Nathan says, "think of all the applications" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "I hate to just give them that, though." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "I'd almost rather make another birthright." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "In fact, I prolly should." [nobilis] GM is guessing the Code Fidelitus didn't come up much in the previous game. Heh heh heh heh. Well, y'all can learn ICly. [whiz-games] inky says, "there we go then" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "A shaman one, native only." [nobilis] Franklin says, "I scoff at scorn" [nobilis] Nathan says, "it didn't come up at all, no" [nobilis] Franklin asks, "ICly?" [nobilis] Pete says (to Franklin), "In Character." [nobilis] Nathan says, "except in the vague sense of "don't cause dementia animus or you will get in trouble"" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "So if you want to be a shaman, you take it." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "This does bring up the question then, is a native class needed." [whiz-games] inky says, "well" [nobilis] Franklin says, "hum hrm hum" [whiz-games] inky asks, "do you want a native shaman or warrior to exist?" [nobilis] Pete still isn't sure how to understand a world in which, even if you're in the Code of Light, you're required to hate anyone you anchor. [whiz-games] inky says, "like, they could have sort of rangery stealth/tracking/hunting skills" [nobilis] GM says, "You can love them, too." [whiz-games] inky says, "but you could also just roll this into another class" [nobilis] Pete asks (of GM), "Isn't that illegal?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Well, I'm wondering if trailblazer couldn't just serve there." [nobilis] Nathan says, "if lovin' is wrong I don't want to be right" [nobilis] Nathan says, "I just want to look right" [nobilis] Franklin says, "ha ha" [nobilis] GM says, "Only if you're caught, prosecuted, and found guilty." [whiz-games] inky says, "it does sound like it" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Maybe rename it Scout." [nobilis] Kaylee says, "Yeah, the Code Fidelitus doesn't make a whit of sense to me." [whiz-games] inky says, "you could perhaps have a few notes in some of the classes for "natives who take this class tend to .."" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Hmm.." [nobilis] Franklin says, "Code Ridiculus" [nobilis] Kaylee says, "Thematically or practially." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Yeah." [nobilis] GM says, "Which means going to Lord Entropy's chancel with your wife and declaring you love her will PROBABLY get you in trouble. But LE is the most corrupt entity in creation and may decide to ignore it." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "I really like having only 3 classes, too." [nobilis] Nathan says, "well, the world in the books is a little more dark and unfair than I played it" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "It's kind of like showing off. ;)" [nobilis] GM says, "LE is a jealous, moody, cynical kind of guy." [whiz-games] inky says, "har" [nobilis] GM says, "But of course, cynics are embittered romantics. :-)" [nobilis] Franklin says, "inky's world was full of things that mostly wanted to take naps" [nobilis] Nathan says, "well, heck, who wouldn't" [nobilis] Franklin says, "Naps! that's it!" [nobilis] Pete says, "(Is anyone else having trouble remembering that inky is note Nate?)" [nobilis] Nathan says, "ha ha ha" [nobilis] Franklin says, "zzz" [nobilis] Nathan asks (of Franklin), "how about Shadows?" [nobilis] Franklin asks, "who knows?" [nobilis] Nathan exclaims, "you could! minor divination!" [nobilis] Pete says, "(Er, s/note/not/)" [nobilis] Nathan says (to Pete), "I could go back to having a last name attached" GM asks, "While Franklin is coming up with an estate, does anybody else have gifts or handicaps to work out?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "One interesting thing..." GM says, "You'll all need to choose a code and bonds, though both can later change." Kaylee asks, "Is shapeshifting 2 actually unlimited?" GM says, "If not, I'd love to have your character sheets in my mailbox, and we can discuss chancel and imperator properties that interest you." [whiz-games] inky asks, "oh?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "This means that all three numerical progressions for each category (BAB, saves, etc) is used exactly once." Kaylee asks, "Or could I shapeshift into, say, a beam or light or the wind or whatnot?" [whiz-games] inky asks, "so there's one guy who starts at +0 bab, one at +1, one at +2; one guy who has +0 fort save, one +1, etc?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Yeah." GM says, "That would be 4 points." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Also, the three main core abilities cover HP, saves, and skills." GM says, "2 is a wide variety of shapes." Pete asks, "What was the difference between Code and Affiliation, again?" [whiz-games] inky says, "cool" Nathan says, "they're the same, I thought" GM says, "Comprehensive rathather than unlimited." GM says, "They are the same." Nathan says, "unless you have your own affiliation, then I guess you need -- well" Kaylee asks, "If I took shapeshifting 4, would that mean that shapes that could fly could actually fly, without taking 'Flight'?" Nathan says, "you are affiliated with the light, which means you follow a particular code" [nobilis] Franklin says, "maybe something physical again, like Iron" [nobilis] Nathan says, "that would be good" GM says, "Absolutely, Kaylee." Kaylee says, "Excellent." [nobilis] Nathan says, "you could be colossus" [nobilis] Franklin says, "I would have no effect on Vulcans with copper blood" GM says, "Though that's true with shapeshifting 2, I think, as well." [nobilis] Franklin says, "I'd get all rusty unless I were Stainless Steel instead" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Hmm. That's nice and clean." [nobilis] Nathan says, "hee hee" GM says, "well, for birds and stuff." Kaylee says, "Oh? I was remembering some comment about dragons having to take 'flight', but maybe that was if your root form was a dragon." GM says, "for stuff physics supports flying." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "It appeals to the fussy little mathematician that lives inside me." [nobilis] Birralee says, "you could take Small Domain and only control 403 stainless steel" [nobilis] Nathan says, "403 steel not found" Thalia says (to GM), "I emailed you mine" GM says, "angels and dragons have trouble flying with wings alone, because of mass issues, I believe." Kaylee changes to Dara. Thalia says, "i think i am set" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Of course, the screaming monkey is pissed, but you can't please everyone." Dara says, "I think I'm set, too." Nathan says, "there is some aspect miracle at which you can fly if you have wings, regardless of physics" [whiz-games] inky says, "ha ha ha" GM says, "5" [nobilis] Franklin says, "hm, I'm kind of liking the Iron idea" Nathan says, "but if you're a bird you can fly whenever" [nobilis] Franklin says, "I would be part of a well fortified diet" [nobilis] Nathan says, "Power of B-12" [nobilis] GM says, "Iron is cool." [nobilis] Nathan says, "not in a BLAST FURNACE" [nobilis] Franklin says, "ok, let's go with that so I can spend my energies trying to think of a character name instead" [nobilis] Nathan says, "Ira" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Now I just need some more abilities for the trailblazer/scout." [nobilis] Franklin says, "Iron Jim" [nobilis] Nathan says, "Ferris" [nobilis] Franklin says, "ha ha" Dara asks, "What was your e-mail address again?" Dara says, "(sorry)" [nobilis] Franklin says, "Ferris is funny" GM says, "exstarsis@msn.com" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Oh, I worked out the cover." Pete says, "Hmm, I need a last name." Birralee says (to GM), "it's on its way" [nobilis] Nathan says, "you could be a wacky punk kid who's always playing iron-related pranks" GM says, "Hurrah." [nobilis] Franklin says, "haw haw" [nobilis] Franklin says, "maybe I should get that Elemental thing going" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "A dragon is breathing fire towards the viewer down an old west street." GM looks at Realm points and also thinks about dividing up among imperators. [whiz-games] inky says, "cool" [nobilis] Birralee says, "you go around telling people to eat more beef" [whiz-games] inky asks, "what is the trailblazer's gun-related specialization?" Pete asks, "Oh, yeah. Which side do Ferris and Dara want to be on?" Nathan asks, "decaying urban or rural?" Franklin asks, "who's Dara?" Dara says, "Side? I haven't read all the transcripts yet." Dara says, "Lucian/Kaylee." GM says, "Two imperators." Franklin says, "yarr, too many name changes" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Standing in the fire, with his back to the viewer, is bad ass cowboy in hat and duster #3. He does not seem impressed. Cool shadows and lighting, and flapping dusters abound." GM says, "Two melded chancels." Nathan says, "I don't remember if the decaying urban side is Jehiela or Yasmina" GM says, "Jehiela is the failing one." Pete says, "One chancel, but with parts of it attuned to one imp and parts attuned to the other." GM says, "What Pete said." Pete says, "Decaying urban is the androgyne who's dying." Nathan asks, "and yasmina is the one who you can't tell her affiliation?" Dara asks, "We're all playing at once?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "So far, the trailblazer concentrates on brawling and large firearms." GM notes that if X wants to also be Realmeriffic, she should probably not be on Dara's side GM says, "yes." Pete says (to Dara), "Yeah." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Rifles rather than pistols." [nobilis] Franklin says, "the name Rufus keeps ringing in my head, although I dunno whether being a Rufus is a good idea" GM says, "Consider yourself the Brady Bunch." [whiz-games] inky asks, "so they could go for distance shots, too?" [whiz-games] Nate says, "speaking of westerns, I just read Dark Tower 5" Dara laughs. [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Sure." [nobilis] Birralee says, "you could be the power of rednecks" Dara says, "Either's fine with me." [whiz-games] Nate says, "a fun series to read if you want a very weird gunslinger vibe" [whiz-games] Whizzard says (to nate), "I've been meaning to look at that series someday." Dara says, "And yeah; trading off with X is probably good anyway, due to the time zone thing." Pete says, "If it matters, Nathan and I are on the urban side, and Thalia on the rural side." [whiz-games] inky says, "so it seems like they go for tracking, wilderness survival, good eyesight, maybe avoiding being surprised, and big, slow weapons" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "I'm kind of using Alan Dean Foster's Mad Amos for inspiration." GM says, "Well, the game schedule is hopefully more friendly for British folks now." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Yeah, you got it right." [whiz-games] Whizzard asks, "Have you seen Silverado?" [whiz-games] inky says, "nah, I haven't seen any westerns" [whiz-games] inky says, "I admit this is a deficiency in my education" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Oh, right." [nobilis] GM says, "Rufus is a cool name." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "There's a rifle-wielding character in Silverado that is very much the scout." GM says, "See the bbpost I last made" [whiz-games] inky says, "aha" [nobilis] Franklin says, "maybe it's Rufus Ferris" [nobilis] Nathan says, "man" [nobilis] Nathan says, "that name is nothin' but trouble" [nobilis] Franklin says, "I bet this guy hates his name" [nobilis] Nathan says, "much like the man who bears it" [nobilis] (from Dara) Rupert Giles says, "Hey, I claim infringement." [nobilis] Nathan says, "of course, the ladies just call him Roofie" [nobilis] Franklin says, "Rupert Ferris" [nobilis] Franklin asks, "who's rupert giles?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "So far, combat-wise, the gunfighter is godawful, and the maverick is *fast*." [nobilis] Dara says, "Older british guy from Buffy." [nobilis] Franklin says, "I want to put a Rufus over your head" [nobilis] Franklin says, "oh that guy" [nobilis] Dara says, "I like Rupert Ferris, though." [nobilis] Franklin says, "I think I like Rupert Ferris too" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "The gunfighter's specialty being craploads of damage." Pete asks, "OK, so how do we make the fence-sitters pick a side?" [whiz-games] inky says, "does anyone else handle taking out large numbers of smaller guys? the trailblazer could do that" Thalia asks, "random assignments?" [nobilis] Franklin says, "although I think he sounds like the kind of guy that people call Ferris rather than Rupert" GM says, "Since failing imperator matches lost domain too well" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "I'd think the maverick would handle that well." [nobilis] Ferris says, "hmmm" GM says, "Actually, Dara has to be from the urban side" Dara says, "OK by me." [nobilis] Ferris says, "I think I have to go with Ferris because everyone will remember it" GM can assign fence-sitters based on what works best for her. Nathan says, "there we go then" Birralee asks, "Right now everyone's pretty much on the urban side?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "There's a scene in "Quick and the Dead" that exemplifies the differences between the gunfighter and the maverick in fighting." Pete says, "inky and I were talking about maybe having a bane and a mystery cult, where the cult is headquartered in the chancel, and the bane has twisted it against us." Nathan says, "so what do our realm scores look like, and we can pick chancel/imperator stuff" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Well, not exactly, but I was thinking of it as I was working." Nathan says (to Birralee), "except for Thalia" Dara says (to Bir), "Every time I see your name I think 'Barely'." GM says, "Okay, raise your hand if you're Excited About Failing Urban" Pete says, "Where the cultists still think they're on our side, but have been brainwashed/manipulated/whatever." [whiz-games] inky says, "cool" Pete raises his hand. Birralee says (to Dara), "hey, I didn't get to pick my town" Birralee says, "Actually, I did, but hey" Nathan says, "I am as excited as can e" Birralee says, "I'll go rural" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Gene Hackman (big bad guy gunfighter dude) has Russell Crowe (Preacher) brought in in chains." Birralee says, "unless that doesn't work for the GM" GM says, "It's fine." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "He asks Russell repeatedly, "You still fast?" Russell stays quiet." GM counts heads Birralee says, "I have to go to bed soon" GM puts Ferris on Yasmina's side. Pete says, "If J and Y were book objects, we could sign them." Birralee says (to Ferris), "just don't strip-mine" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Finally, he throws a glass of whiskey at him, yelling "I said, are you still fast?!" Russell catches it, takes a drink, and says, "Faster than you."" GM says, "great idea, somebody tell me how to do that." Nathan says, "@set object = book" Pete points to Thalia, "Or hers, either." GM says, "Okay, I think that's done." Pete signed Jehiela. Nathan signed Jehiela. [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "To me, preacher has a few levels of maverick. He's not necessarily as good a shot, but damn his hands are quick." Nathan signed Jehiela. Thalia says (to pete), "heh" GM thinks that thematically she wants X on Urban side if she's not a Realmariffic character, and on Rural side if she is. And Anthromorphicmaga can balance her out. Dara asks, "I'm Jehiela?" Ferris asks, "which is Yasmina?" Thalia signed Yasmina. Nathan says, "yasmina is female and of unknown affiliation" GM has Birr and Ferris on Yasmina [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "I guess that the scout could've been accuracy, but I gave the best BAB to the gunfighter." GM says, "Dara is Jehiela" Ferris asks, "and is the rural thingy?" Nathan says, "right" GM nods at Ferris. Nathan says, "hrm, it's a little weird to have iron on the rural side, but I guess it depends" Ferris says, "I guess if you're named rufus you're rural already" GM asks, "rural has a lot of ways it can be interpreted. Are you still doing the day/night thing?" Dara signed Jehiela. Ferris says, "or was it rupert? I guess I'm stuck with rufus because clearly I remember that better" Birralee asks (of nathan), "where do you think it comes from? mined from skyscrapers?" GM says, "They don't have to be opposites, just differently flavored" Birralee says, "i like lemon" Ferris asks, "day/night thing?" [whiz-games] inky says, "you could let the scout take one well-aimed shot" [whiz-games] inky says, "or similarly sacrifice attacks for accuracy" Pete says (to Ferris), "Daytime in one whenever it's nighttime in the other, and vice versa." Ferris says (to nathan), "yeah, iron could go either way, seems like" Thalia says, "my realm is 2" Thalia asks, "what other realm points do we have?" Birralee says, "Mine's 2" Ferris signed Yasmina. Pete says, "Rural side will probably have smithies." Pete signed Jehiela. [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Hmm." Birralee signed Yasmina. Ferris says, "I was going to have 1 Realm I think" Nathan signed Jehiela. [whiz-games] Whizzard asks, "Would it freak you out if the scout had a better BAB than a gunfighter?" Ferris says, "although I'm shoving points around and frowning as we speak" [whiz-games] inky says, "yeah, kind of" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Hmm. I guess it would freak me." [whiz-games] inky asks, "um, how about the scout negates distance penalties better?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Hmm. I like the aim thing better." [nobilis] Ferris says, "I'm keen on this Elemental thing, but it takes 2 points, which makes me hrm and mrm a lot" [nobilis] Nathan says, "it's so worth it" [nobilis] Birralee says, "I ended up taking it" [nobilis] Ferris says, "oh fine" [nobilis] Nathan says, "c'mon, body of iron -- you can, uh, be really heavy" [nobilis] Thalia says, "i liked elemental when i played wind" [nobilis] Nathan says, "ok, maybe it's not worth it" [nobilis] Birralee says, "and now I'm any of the halides" [nobilis] GM says, "It'll do for you as Durant, too, once it's done." [nobilis] Ferris says, "sayyy" [nobilis] Nathan says, "I guess you could also turn into molten iron and stuff too" [nobilis] Thalia says, "or an iron door to keep the enemies out while we run" [nobilis] Ferris says, "I need at least aspect 1, because having aspect 0 was wonky" [nobilis] Nathan says, "I don't know if you could line up your electrons and turn into a big magnet" Pete says, "OK, so for the urban side, we could do principled, and recognize execrucians and Hellions." [nobilis] Birralee says, "You'll be just like one of the wonder twins" GM is guessing 7ish points on the Urban side, and I only have one character on the Yasmina side. [nobilis] Birralee says (to Nathan), "with my help he could" [nobilis] Ferris says, "I really liked having a 4 domain though" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Hmm. Would be interesting if you could add the BAB of all your attacks together into one super accurate attack." GM exclaims, "Yay imperators!" Pete asks (of GM), "Realm or Spirit?" [nobilis] * buzzard has left the channel. [nobilis] Thalia says, "and you can't die - since meltin you won't kill you" Pete says, "(Imps are built from Spirit, right?)" Ferris asks, "one character?" GM says, "Imps don't have source points." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Not useful until level 8, of course." GM says, "They are a net zero game" [nobilis] Thalia says (to gerris), "yeah, i am gonna miss domain powers" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "When you actually get a 2nd attack." Birralee says (to GM), "shouldn't that be three? me, Thalia, Ruferris" Pete says (to GM), "Ah, OK." GM doesn't have character sheets /stats for two of you yet. Nathan says (to Pete), "I would be up for that" Pete says, "Which makes Corrupted Cult even more useful." Nathan says (to Pete), "I guess we should argue for her being code of the light, then" Thalia asks, "do the inhabitants of each side of the chancel get along?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "But theoretically, at level 20, instead of +15/+10/+5, you'd have +30." Thalia says, "not the nobles, but the inhabitants" Pete says (to Nathan), "Sounds good." Nathan says, "I assume we can decide that" Thalia asks, "or is there essentially open warfare between the two halves?" GM says, "No." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Which is pretty likely to freaking hit." Pete says, "Hmm. Unskilled would go well with Failing, I bet." GM says, "Um." Nathan says, "it seems like to some extent the city would rely on the rural side to feed it and sustain it" Nathan asks (of Pete), "for what skill?" Ferris asks, "what was that email address again?" Pete asks, "Good question. Agriculture?" Nathan says, "hrm" Pete says, "If they're feeding us and all :)" Birralee says (to Ferris), "exstarsis@msn.com" GM says, "There isn't open warfare and in fact the dependency thing would make thematic sense." Nathan says, "the thing is untalented is more supposed to be about us, not our chancel" Pete says (to Nathan), "Well, about our Imperator." [whiz-games] inky says, "that would be crazy powerful" [whiz-games] inky says, "but kind of cool" Nathan says, "well, ok" [nobilis] Dara says, "OK, I'm idle to put Ellric to bed, but will be back. Use my Realm points well ;-)" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Hmm. How to do this..." Pete asks, "Is ther a different skill you think would work better?" Nathan says, "hrm" GM observes that the Urban side has the domains that are Wishes, Stars, Lost, and either X or Anthropomorphism. Yasmina has Archery, Spin, Iron and the other one. Thalia asks (of ferris and berry), "how many do we have thus far?" GM kind of wants X to be on the Urban side because, well, gen x, but. anyhow. Pete says, "Thematically, X does seem to fit better with WIshes, Stars, and Lost." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Well, first I figure the class has to get some crazy tracking/survival bonuses." Nathan asks, "I dunno, what other thing did you want to buy with the points from untalented?" Pete says, "The unknown, the unreachable, etc." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Which can be like Con Job for the maverick." [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "+2 on up to +10." GM asks, "Ferris, my mail is being wonky. Can you send also to soula@idiom.com?" Nathan says, "(I'm mostly resisting this because it doesn't exactly square with my character concept to be really bad at something, but if there was something we wanted I could probably work something out)" Pete says (to Nathan), "Hmm. There's Sympathetic (Imp cares about us, plus we can read emotions). Or 25 Optional points." Pete says, "Or Dim Warding, which makes our presences unpleasant and disrupting to Execrucians." GM says, "Stay away from Dynasty Poiints, I suggest." [nobilis] Ferris ponders going for a fairly high Realm GM says, "Since that gets complicated combined with Failing" Pete says, "I wasn't sure if Dynasty and Optional points were related or not." Pete says, "I thought Dynasty points were used to buy Imp points or something." [nobilis] GM exclaims, "You could be a Warden! or a King!" Birralee asks, "dynasty points?" GM thinks they're effectively the same thing. [nobilis] Birralee says, "we would bow down to you, around our neck a yoke of iron" [nobilis] Ferris says, "I was considering Warden-level" Pete asks, "OK. So you want to just go with Harvest, Failing, Corrupted Cult, and Principled?" Nathan says, "they are the same thing, yeah" Nathan says (to Pete), "yeah, I'd rather" [nobilis] Ferris says, "if something's going to be 3, and I'm going to spend 2 on Elemental, it seems like something else is going to be 0" Nathan says, "but if you really want untalented agriculture (and the GM's ok with that) that's fine too" [nobilis] GM says, "Society of Flowers has a list (I believe) of the exact social ranking of every level of Nobilis, starting with Tempest and going all the way down to, I think Aspect 1 being the highest stat they have." Pete says, "I'm fine either way. We can wait to hear from Dara, if you want." [nobilis] Ferris says, "although I guess I could have 1 1 3 1" [nobilis] Nathan says, "well, you can distribute 7 attribute points for 21 character points, and have 4 left over" [nobilis] Nathan says, "to use on elemental + something else" GM writes that down for Jehiela GM says, "(for now)" [nobilis] Ferris says, "eh, I don't see any other something elses that entice me" [nobilis] Pete says, "Having one stat at 0 isn't necessarily a terrible thing." GM says, "(trying to track everything at once)" [nobilis] Ferris says, "I had two stats at 0 last time" [nobilis] Pete says, "I'm taking Domain 0, and Alison had Aspect 0." [nobilis] Ferris says, "although I gave myself a high Spirit and it never came into play" [nobilis] GM notes that so far, this is a pretty low-domain game. [nobilis] Ferris says, "I had aspect 0 domain 4 realm 0 spirit 4 last time" [nobilis] Thalia says (to GM), "yeah, that worries me a tad" [nobilis] Ferris says, "I really liked being able to create stuff on the fly" Pete asks, "So how many realm points do we have between Nathan, me, Dara, and Whoever?" [nobilis] Thalia says (to gerris), "me too" [nobilis] Thalia says, "er f" GM says, "7 plus whatever you get from whoever." [nobilis] Birralee says, "hm. I had a low spirit last time around and didn't much notice" [nobilis] Nathan says (to Ferris), "you could get immutable for 1 point, and be ageless and not have to eat/drink/sleep/breathe" [nobilis] GM says, "(slower aging, not ageless)" [nobilis] Nathan says, "I guess not quite -- right" Pete says, "That's a lot. Although I'm only contributing one, so I should probably let Nathan and Dara make most of the suggestions there." Nathan says, "I'm only contributing 1 also" [nobilis] Pete says, "I think Spirit's a bigger deal if you use anchors a lot." Nathan says, "which doesn't quite work mathematically" [nobilis] Ferris says, "I think rufus likes eating though" Pete says, "Mrm." GM says, "Dara is a Tempest." Nathan says, "unless Dara really put 5 into realm" Nathan says, "I guess since she has no domain" [nobilis] Ferris says, "yeah, and I had no anchors with all that spirit going around" [nobilis] Nathan says, "you can eat, you just don't have to" Pete says, "Wow." Pete says, "OK. So hmm." [nobilis] Nathan says, "(mostly I'm just thinking that iron body should let you avoid breathing/eating if you don't want to)" [nobilis] Thalia says, "i had anchors, but they never came in to place" Nathan says, "really we should just sit around and see what she wants" Pete says, "There isn't much out there about what to spend realm points on." Nathan says, "but nevertheless I will advocate for an open border chancel, since that intrigued me before" [nobilis] Ferris says, "hrm" [nobilis] Birralee asks (of GM), "how much do you see spirit being involved in this game?" Pete says, "So our side of the chancel can be open to some other real-world city." Nathan says, "yeah" Pete asks, "NYC? Chicago?" Nathan says, "or it could just be that the city is, you know, a city and is just something on the map you can drive to" Pete says, "True." Nathan says, "although it would have to be off in the middle of nowhere" Nathan says, "I don't know if it would be cooler to have that, or to have a section of some other city lead into this" [nobilis] Ferris says, "oh wait, I've been calculating wrong" Nathan says, "you make a right turn on 42nd and you end up here" [nobilis] Nathan exclaims, "you should have listened to me!" Pete says, "Being connected to a real city would make it easier for us, I think." [nobilis] Ferris says, "I am now!" Pete says, "Since we'd ahve ready access to that city's amenities." Nathan says, "I guess it says "has an open boundary to the mortal world at least a mile in width"" Nathan asks, "how many blocks is a mile? ten?" [nobilis] Ferris says, "you're right, I have 7 points to go around with 4 left over for gifts, potentially" [nobilis] Dara back, since Sara returned. [nobilis] Nathan exclaims, "hi sara!" [nobilis] Ferris says, "Dara, Sara. Sara, Dara." [nobilis] Dara says, "Heh." Nathan says, "we'd have to be a little careful to keep people out of our chancel" [nobilis] Ferris says, "this makes it easier. I think." Thalia says, "twenty NYC blocks in a mile" [nobilis] Birralee says, "mrm mrm, now I am questioning my moderately high spirit" [nobilis] Ferris says, "ok, so I don't have to be pinchy about the Immutable" Dara asks, "So what was the untalented agricultural thing? For the imperator?" Thalia says, "i don't know how NYC blocks relate to another city's mile" Nathan says, "I wonder how you could do that" Nathan says (to Dara), "right" Pete asks, "Do we need to keep people out?" Dara says, "Keeping people out would have been handy last game ;-)" Nathan says (to Pete), "well, we need to keep people from coming in, seeing something surprising, and leaving again" Birralee says (to Nathan), "that's where the nudie bars come in to distract them" Pete says, "We could just keep our surprising stuff indoors." Nathan says, "so either we hide the surprising stuff (which could be fine -- it looks like an ordinary city, no high tech or anything unless you know the right people)" Nathan says, "okay, I'm up for that" Nathan asks, "would we pay taxes and stuff to the city?" Pete says, "Our inhabitatns probably would." [nobilis] Nathan says, "the other question is sort of if it's neighborhood-sized or if it's bigger than the space it takes up in the city" [nobilis] Nathan says, "er, ilar" [nobilis] GM says, "I'd guess bigger." Pete says, "It could be a borrough. (Spelling?)" Pete says, "(Burrough?)" Dara says, "Burro." Nathan says, "borough" Nathan says, "I believe" Dara says, "Burrow." (From Pete) Iain says, "Biro." GM looks through character sheets. I may encourage Maga to go high Aspect. Pete says, "So, yeah, if the GM says bigger, bigger's good." Pete says (to GM), "I think he was thinking of not doing as high aspect as before, because he did high aspect before." [nobilis] Nathan says, "it could be that, like, you can just walk into our part of the city, and poke around the neighborhoods a bit, but the inhabitants tend to hang out on the streets and stop cars from driving through more than the outskirts casually" [nobilis] Nathan says, "I'm not sure why I'm on the channel again" [nobilis] Nathan says, "help let me out" GM says, "Oh, duh. Storme is Realm 2. So she's either high aspect or high spirit. Okay, she's in Jehelia's domain." Pete says (to Nathan), "It's probably a bad neighborhood." Nathan says, "oho" Nathan says, "that would make sense" Nathan says, "so even cops don't like to go in too far" Pete says, "Yeah." Nathan says, "so they don't see that on some of the roads you can just ... keep on driving" Dara says, "We could even still be on the map." Nathan says (to Dara), "it's your call since you were realm 5 -- Pete was advocating for basically being a neighborhood in an existing city" Nathan says, "er, s/were/are/" Nathan says, "or, rather, linked from a neighborhood" Dara asks, "The Open Borders thing, right?" Nathan says, "yeah" Nathan says, "and I guess you effectively have to go through our chancel to get to the other one" Nathan says, "er, our half" GM notes that stuff like Open Border will-- yes. [whiz-games] Whizzard asks, "Hmm, what would you call a bonus to hide, move silently, spot, and listen?" Nathan says, "so they shouldn't have the full open borders penalty" Dara says, "Sure, we could do that." [whiz-games] Whizzard asks, "Predator, maybe?" Nathan says, "ok, that gives us a fairly high number of points" GM says, "The other group has 4 points so far, and I don't know what Ferris is doing in Realm yet." Dara says, "Wow, that's a bonus. Hmm." Pete says, "They might still opt to have a regular exit from their chancel some place entirely else." Nathan says, "we were also talking about a one-point set of banes that might start as a weird cult leader" Nathan says, "(but possibly the GM would count that as being under the corrupted mystery cult heading)" GM says, "Yes, Open gives you 11 realm points to spend. :-)" Thalia asks, "so essentially, an existing city, rough neighborhood slowly extends in to the urban chancel, which slowly opens out to the rural chancel?" Dara says, "I liked the magical inhabitants last time, though the other half did high-tech." GM exclaims, "A rural countryside not on any map!" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Yeah, I think that works ok." Nathan says, "in a way it seems like we should go high-tech if we're urban and they're rural" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Hmm. Now I need a 3-stage ability for the scout." Dara says, "I don't think we need many more bonuses, unless you all were gunning for some particular benefit." Pete asks (of Nathan), "Neuromancer-style stuff?" Thalia says, "i want magical too" GM likes magical inhabitants, she'll note again. GM says, "Yay" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Damage reduction and lucky are the equivalents for the other classes." Nathan says, "high-ticket things to buy: improved spirit when in the chancel, the equivalent of constant domain used to defend the chancel" Nathan says, "gateways to elsewhere (dunno how useful this would be)" GM would make it usseful. Nathan says, "popular with the inhabitants" Dara says, "I'd be up for improved spirit in-chancel, since I have 0 otehrwise ;-)" Ferris finally decides on stuff and emails, and then realizes he hasn't paid any attention to the conversation the last fifteen minutes GM exclaims, "Yay Ferris!" Nathan says, "er, by "improved spirit" I mean "improved auctoritas"" Dara says, "Right." Nathan says, "which is 2 per level" Thalia says (to ferris), "talk on urban chancel" GM says, "Whee, okay, so Yasmina has 7 points not including maga." Thalia says (to ferris), "we are awaiting you before we begin talking about the rural one" Nathan says, "so we could easily give auctoritas 3 or even 4" Nathan says, "which would be pretty decent" Nathan says, "but you might rather we get normal magic (3)" Dara says, "And it would mean our inhabitants wouldn't die on us." Nathan says, "or faery magic (2)" Dara says, "We have 11 points to spend ;-)" Pete asks, "Is Defender's Blessing 2 * Level?" Ferris tries to catch up Nathan says, "and even possibly alchemy or high summoning (1 each)" Pete says, "Wait, you already said that." Nathan says (to Pete), "right" Pete says, "So we could do 6 points of DB, maybe." Nathan says, "we could also even get magical inhabitants, and have everyone be magical" GM says, "Yasmina crew can discuss Imperator benefits/flaws." GM says, "While they're working on Chancel." Nathan says, "maybe yasmina folks should use #nobilis" GM nods. Pete asks, "Also, did we keep or lose the bane?" GM says, "You have no bane currently." [nobilis] Thalia asks, "hey crew. should we figure stuff out?" Pete asks, "Did we want to have one?" [nobilis] GM says, "Basically, you can buy special powers for your Imperator/selves, and pay for it with a flaw." [nobilis] Thalia says, "i am guessing it's approaching bedtime for all (it's past mine for me)" Nathan says, "we could, for instance, make many of the inhabitants magical for 2 points, although they can't do spells outside the chancel" [nobilis] Birralee says, "I'm for doing that, because I am getting sleeepy" [nobilis] Ferris says, "hmmm" [nobilis] Dara says, "(afk a sec...)" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "okay, we have 7 points - it's rural. what's the thoughts?" Pete asks, "The rural side was doing magic, right?" Thalia says, "i would like to, yes" Nathan asks, "did we want to do high-tech then? or magic also?" Pete says, "So we might want to do ours as tech." Nathan says, "we could, for instance, get "extrapolative technology that works on earth" for 2" [nobilis] GM says, "(you can also discuss Imperator stuff at a later date, after the game has started, or give me free rein to buil her." [nobilis] GM says, "Chancel traits are definitely more important" [nobilis] Ferris says, "oh ok, so our Realm scores give us 7 points" [nobilis] Thalia says, "do we want open borders like the others? or make it hidden? (i prefer hidden)" Nathan says, "we could even get weird science for +1 per science" [nobilis] Ferris says, "hidden is good..." [nobilis] Birralee says, "hidden is fine with me, assuming the two chancels get entertwined soon enough that we can still get in" Nathan says, "which is a big jump in AI or VR or nanotech or robotics or something" [nobilis] GM says, "Magical Inhabitants vary a lot in price: 1 to 9 points." Pete asks, "So, fiber-optic Internet in most homes, limited cyber implants, electric cars that are actually affordable, might fall under 2 points?" [nobilis] Thalia says, "yeah. hidden for anyone outside of the urban chancel, too" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "okay. what do want it to look like physically?" Nathan says, "that would be hilarious to have this urban slum with electric cars" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "just patches of farmland?" Nathan says, "all disguised, naturally" [nobilis] Ferris says, "maybe we could be slightly unpopular" [nobilis] Birralee says, "english countryside sounds appealing" [nobilis] Thalia says, "we would obviously need a smithy for ferris" [nobilis] Thalia says (to berry), "i was just thinking the same thing" [nobilis] Birralee says, "farmland, some forest, though perhaps with better weather" [nobilis] Ferris says, "them city slickers don't like it, anyway" [whiz-games] inky says, "or "Hunter"" [nobilis] GM exclaims, "Sherwood!" [nobilis] GM says, "Ahem" [whiz-games] Nate says, "Predator sounds cooler" [nobilis] Thalia says, "rivers, too" [nobilis] Ferris says, "hm, english countryside" [nobilis] Thalia says, "as a border" [nobilis] Ferris says, "and if you shoot the king's deer you're hanged at dawn" [nobilis] Thalia asks (of ferris), "how does unpopular work? that the chancel people don't like us? or people don't like our chancel?" Nathan says, "so in theory we could buy 3 points of auctoritas for 6, 2 points of near-future tech for 2" [nobilis] GM notes that high summoning/alchemy rules exist if people decide to take one or the other. [nobilis] Ferris says, "I guess we'd have sheep and stuff" [nobilis] GM says, "They don't like you." Pete asks, "Hmm. WOuld a borderguard be able to tell the difference between invaders and people who had their maps turned the wrong way?" [nobilis] Ferris says, "seems like an english countryside setting would have to have some kind of magical creatures" [nobilis] Birralee says, "good point" GM says, "They can read the intent of anyone whose auctoritus it beats." Nathan says, "borderguards are pretty expensive, unfortunately -- they're 3 per miracle level, 1 point per penentration level" [nobilis] Thalia says, "unicorns can keep me company :)" [nobilis] Ferris asks, "what's high summoning/alchemy?" Nathan says, "but if we buy miracle level 2 they can" [nobilis] GM says, "chancel properties." [nobilis] Birralee says, "I see on this list of chancel things that there's magical inhabitants and then there's magic that we can use" [nobilis] Nathan says, "high summoning has the chancel allow summoning demons" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "It's tough to come up with something else as nifty as DR or rerolls." Pete says, "Mmm. That is pretty exensive." [nobilis] Birralee says (to Ferris), "it looks like, on top of magic, you can add the power to do real alchemy or the power to summon cthulhu" [nobilis] Nathan says, "alchemy is, you know, the philosopher's stone and transmutation and harry potter and stuff" [nobilis] Thalia says, "nobilis i like both" Pete says, "Hmm. If we took the bane, then we could take a gateway." Nathan says, "I think it's the improved auctoritas or that, not both" [nobilis] Birralee says (to Nathan), "what? oh, the *sorceror's* stone" [nobilis] Ferris says, "we can turn lead into a lump of purest green" [nobilis] GM says, "rules-wise, it gives you an extra stat you can improve with experience and use miracle points. Shh, unpublished information." [nobilis] Ferris asks (of thalia), "both which?" [nobilis] Birralee says, "Alchemy might be neat in combination with the power of Iron" [nobilis] GM says, "We should figure out what level of magical inhabitants you want." [nobilis] Ferris says, "ok, let's spend some points and go to bed" [nobilis] GM says, "first." [nobilis] Nathan says (to GM), "oho" Pete says, "Or we could extrapolate our tech further, or do weird science..." [nobilis] GM asks, "First: do you think you might want to anchor any unicorn friends, Thalia?" Nathan says, "I'm not thinking of anywhere great to have a gateway to, but if you have an idea I would be all for it" [nobilis] Ferris asks, "I think we need usefully leveled magical inhabitants. or are we potentially unpopular with them too?" [nobilis] Thalia says, "any chance we can throw in some mountains/hills in one corner of the chancel? then we can have several mines for Ferris' iron, as well as throw in a mana mine (i really liked the concept)" [nobilis] Birralee says, "having it be common for inhabitants to have magic is 2 points" [nobilis] Ferris says, "ooo, unicorn anchors" [nobilis] Ferris says, "wow, good thinking" [nobilis] GM says, "That adds an extra two points to your magical inhabitants though." [whiz-games] Nate asks, "the power to hypnotise the GM?" Pete says, "Nah, I idn't have anyplace in particular in mind. GM was just mentioning that it could be made interesting." [nobilis] GM asks, "Are you guys confirmed on wanting unpopularity?" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Heh." [nobilis] Birralee says, "hang on, I'm not, unless we really need the points" [nobilis] Pete wonders if Ferris could anchor an anchor. [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "The ole 'Look! A monkey!' trick." GM would come up with the gateway thing if you wanted it. [nobilis] Ferris says, "I was just trying to think of a way to get some more leeway, I'm not stuck fast on the unpopular idea" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "wouldn't it be harder to get the inhabitants doing anything for us with their magic if we are unpopular?" [nobilis] Ferris says, "I actually like the idea of friendly inhabitants better" GM says, "Note that gateways are free if you spend points to use them." [nobilis] Thalia says, "i am not convinced that they are the way to go" [nobilis] Ferris says, "because this is sounding more like a magical forest type thing" [nobilis] GM says, "Banes and landlords are always fun. :-)" [nobilis] Thalia says, "so friendly inhabitants, please" Nathan says, "we could also bump the auctoritas to 4" [nobilis] Ferris says, "ok" [nobilis] Birralee says, "the other possibilities for more points are banes, having a landlord, and, well, landlord" [nobilis] Thalia says, "well, forest, farmland, and mines, since we need all three :)" [nobilis] Birralee says, "I am behind the times" Nathan says, "so it is -- 0 for a 4-RMP cost one, +1 for each RMP less" [nobilis] Ferris asks, "well, what are we spending so far?" Nathan says, "of course, then we have to worry about whoever's on the other side" [nobilis] Thalia says, "magical inhabitants so far, i think" [nobilis] Birralee says, "if we do standard magical inhabitants we can anchor, that's 3 points" Pete asks, "Is that 4 RMP per traveller, or per jaunt?" [nobilis] Ferris says, "okay" [nobilis] Thalia says (to gm), "sure, one unicorn anchor eventually" [nobilis] GM says, "3 points for individuals, 4 points for common anchorable magical things." Nathan says, "I can't tell" [nobilis] GM says, "friendly inhabitants is free." [nobilis] GM says, "(not fanataically loyal, but individually friendly)" [whiz-games] inky says, "hee hee" [nobilis] GM says, "you wanted alchemy" [nobilis] Thalia says, "er yeah" GM isn't sure. [whiz-games] Nate says, "darn GM shields" [nobilis] Ferris asks, "did we? how much is it?" Pete says, "Heh." Nathan says, "it seems weird if normals can't use it (who don't have RMPs to spend)" [nobilis] Ferris asks, "do we need anything else in the way of defense or whatnot?" Nathan says, "but I don't know if 4 RMP seems cheap or not" [nobilis] GM says, "Alchemy is 1 point." [nobilis] Thalia asks, "mobile? or is that too pricey?" [nobilis] Ferris says, "oh, ok" [nobilis] GM says, "oh, hm" Pete says, "If each member of the party could pay 1 RMP, it owuldn't be so bad." Nathan asks, "anyway, um, assuming we don't spend too many points on that, can we think of some additional high tech we'd like to take?" [nobilis] GM says, "alchemy requires normal magic though" [nobilis] GM says, "so hm" Pete asks, "Surveillance devices?" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "how much for normal magic on top of magical inhabitants?" [nobilis] Birralee says (to Ferris), "defenses look expensive. To get guards, it's 3 points per miracle level they can do + 1 for each level of being able to penetrate attacker's spirit" Pete says, "I'm reminded of these things in _Across Real Time_..." [nobilis] Ferris says, "hrm" Nathan says, "the book lists "dimensional sciences, biotech, advanced chemistry, genetic engineering, advanced metallurgy, psionic tech, advanced psychiatry, advanced robotics"" [nobilis] GM says, "alchemy would cost either 3 or 4 points and come with either normal magic that works in the real world as well, or faery glamour magic." Pete says, "Little sticky brown balls, just bigger than a BB." [nobilis] Thalia says, "hm" Nathan says, "whoops, and I see here that normal magic [or advanced tech] can't affect nobles or penetrate their auctoritas" GM says, "(I assume it's 4 points to open the gate)" [nobilis] Birralee says, "to get auctoritas (like you do for spirit), it's 2 points per level, and it doesn't stack. so, like, since I have spirit of 2, that kind of defense wouldn't help unless it was at level 3, which costs 6 points" Ferris says, "man, the difference in the two chancel conversations is really interesting" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "if we don't get magic but get magical inhabitants, it essentially means that we can not to any magic but our people can, right?" Pete says, "Each one able to broadcast whatever it 'sees' to a receiver, over vast distances." [nobilis] GM says, "It also means their magic doesn't work in the real world." [nobilis] Nathan says, "you can *order* them to do it" [nobilis] Birralee says, "yeah, but -- what GM said" [nobilis] Thalia says, "hm" [whiz-games] inky says, "hmm" [nobilis] Ferris says, "hrm" [nobilis] Ferris says, "O" [nobilis] GM says, "Real magic is pretty potent. And Alchemy is miracle-equivalent-stuff." Pete says, "And they're individually really cheap, so you can just scatter handfuls of them, and people/animals/whatever will pick them up on their clothes/fur without even knowing it." [whiz-games] inky asks, "I dunno, what are the good class abilities?" [nobilis] Ferris says, "I'm not sure how to make an informed decision here" [nobilis] Ferris says, "I'll go along with anybody with a strong opinion" [whiz-games] inky says, "extra feats, spells, extra skills, rage, bard music stuff" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Stuff that's really universal is the best." [nobilis] Thalia asks, "why don't we take both, and drop one or the other later on in the discussion?" [nobilis] Birralee says, "I'd be okay with that." [nobilis] Ferris asks, "ok, so where do we stand?" [nobilis] Thalia says, "i really would like a magical chancel, but i am not sure yet if the price is worth it" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Like DR, rerolls, stat bonuses, etc." Pete says, "Hmm. Giant robots could be fun, for defending the chancel." [nobilis] GM says, "magical inhabitants = +3. Faery/real magic = +3/+4." [nobilis] Birralee says, "it'd be four points for magic+alchemy, and 3 for magical inhabitants that we could anchor" Nathan says, "I don't know if we'd take "surveillance" or "miniaturization" or what for that" Pete asks, "Anyone else here watch Big O?" Nathan says, "but I would be for it" Nathan says, "urr" Nathan says, "no mecha, please" [nobilis] GM says, "You have a total of 7 points currently, and no flaws." [nobilis] Birralee says, "and that'd be our 7 realm points" Nathan says, "well, unless Dara wants it" Pete says, "Hee. OK." [nobilis] Thalia says, "friendly (free), magic people (3), magic_alchemy (4)" Nathan says, "I would be fine with small robots" Nathan says, "(small = human-sized or whatever)" Ferris says, "clank clank" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "hm. if we get flaws we get more points to spend, right?" [nobilis] GM says, "Yes." [nobilis] Birralee says, "yeah" [nobilis] Ferris says, "right" [nobilis] GM exclaims, "Landlords are fun! Banes are fun!" [nobilis] Birralee says, "evidently I am the Power of GM Echo" [nobilis] GM exclaims, "You know you want them!" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "what's a bane again?" Pete says, "Hmm. Come to think of it, we could probably do the surveillance thing with tiny robots just as easily." [whiz-games] inky asks, "save bonuses?" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "where can i find a list of faults?" Nathan says, "true" [nobilis] Thalia says, "er flaws" [nobilis] Ferris says, "we could have a mile-wide border" Nathan says, "also, note that we're talking about only 9 points here" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "They get that for their core ability." [nobilis] Ferris says, "I've been looking at http://www.drizzle.com/~dans/nobilis/chancel.html" Nathan says, "so we could get either two more weird sciences, one more auctoritas level, or lower the gate cost" Ferris says, "the power to create kelly lebrock" Birralee says (to Ferris), "yay" Pete asks, "Nine?" Birralee says (to Ferris), "though you will have to show that movie to inky as well to make him understand" [nobilis] GM says, "Banes are the manifestation of the chancel that is unhappy people were killed to make it." [nobilis] Ferris asks, "the other guys keep talking about auctoritas level. is that something we should be thinking about?" Nathan says (to Pete), "6 for auctoritas 3, 1 for this weird science whatever it is, 2 for advanced tech" Pete asks, "Is that the 6 points of DB + 2 of near future, +1 of nanotech?" Pete nods. [nobilis] Birralee says, "depends. what's everyone's spirit level? Mine's 2" [nobilis] Thalia says, "i liked the idea of resources and the mana mine, though. hm" [nobilis] Ferris says, "mine is, um, 0" [nobilis] Thalia says, "mine is a 1" Nathan says, "I don't know if it's nanotech or robotics or surveillance or what" Jordy arrives, looking for booty. Pete asks, "DB works on mortals, right?" Nathan asks (of Dara), "if you're unidle, have an opinion?" Nathan says, "I believe it defends the mortals, let's see" Nathan says, "yes, it does" Nathan says, "that's pretty cool" [nobilis] Birralee says, "you get a level of auctoritas for each level of spirit. it's nobilis protection" [nobilis] Ferris says, "Resources makes sense for the setting" Pete says, "Yeah, that's nice." [nobilis] Ferris says, "I dunno about the mana mine" [nobilis] Nathan says, "CORN" [nobilis] Dara back. [nobilis] Birralee says, "if we buy it for the chancel, we can use that instead of our spirit-based auctoritas." [nobilis] GM notes that magic and Alchemy are resources. [nobilis] Thalia says, "oh" [nobilis] Thalia says, "didn't realize that" [nobilis] Birralee says, "so for 2 points we get auctoritas that helps Ferris (one level). For 4 it helps Ferris and Thalia (two levels). For 6 it helps the three of us (three levels)" Nathan asks (of Dara), "have an opinion on some tech we should have?" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "do we earn miracle points every few games or so like we did in the last game? or was that because we had the mine?" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "also, do we need a spirit gateway to connect to the urban chancel?" [nobilis] Ferris says, "I think it was because inky was all 'ok, have another point'" Pete asks (of GM), "Tiny robots, including ones with surveillance abilities, would fall under a 'Nanotech' +1 weird science, right?" [nobilis] Nathan says, "hee hee" [nobilis] GM says, "That was the mine, I think. And no, you don't need a spirit gateway, it's a special campaign-feature." GM exclaims (at Pete), "Um!" [nobilis] Thalia says, "okay, do no one really like the idea of the mine, then? i found it handy, knowing that i would be earning MPs and can buy more gifts later in the game" [nobilis] Ferris asks, "well, how are we going to pay for it?" [nobilis] GM says, "You can buy more gifts anyhow, you'll get XP." [nobilis] Thalia says, "oh okay - never mind then" [nobilis] Birralee says (to Ferris), "we could take a landlord or some banes" GM says, "Yes..." [nobilis] Ferris says, "or a mile-wide border" [nobilis] Thalia says, "landlord seems less intrusive than banes" [nobilis] Nathan says (to Thalia), "well, note the distinction between miracle points (which you do miracles with, and have 5 per stat to start, and get refreshed occasionally), and experience points (which I was giving out every half-dozen sessions or so)" [nobilis] Ferris says, "we had a landlord last time" [nobilis] Nathan says, "the latter of which is what you buy gifts with" [nobilis] GM exclaims, "Landlords are cool!" [nobilis] Thalia asks (of ferris), "can we have the mile wide border in the really confusing part of our forest?" [nobilis] Nathan says, "hee hee" [nobilis] Nathan says, "it would be funny if we each had mile-wide borders, but yours was in nebraska and ours was in new york" [nobilis] Thalia says, "so people can just get majorly lost in the forest" [nobilis] Ferris says, "the GM seems to have a hankering to play cantankerous NPCs" [nobilis] Nathan says, "hanker for a cantanker" [nobilis] GM would make the Landlord of a English forest be, oh, I dunno. Sheriff of Nottingham-esque! Or, okay, maybe not. [nobilis] GM does, she admits it. [nobilis] Birralee says, "it might be worth taking a landlord and using those points for a defender's blessing, to guard low-spirit people and our inhabitants" [nobilis] Thalia says, "i can see a landlord" Pete asks (of GM), "Is that bad?" [nobilis] Thalia says, "the landlord didn't seem that problematic with the library folks" GM says, "Nope, just a bit distracted and was trying to decide." Pete says, "Hmm." [nobilis] Thalia says (to gm), "that would be hilarious" [nobilis] Ferris says, "I'm all for some extra defense" Nathan says, "I think we should go for that plus a +4 defender's blessing, then, unless somebody has another idea" [nobilis] GM says, "a one-point landlord is nothing. It's the 3 and 4 point landlords that are super-fun." [nobilis] Thalia asks, "do both? mile wide border in the forest and a landlord?" Nathan says, "I would really rather have more tech or something else, but I am not feeling inspired" [nobilis] Ferris says, "that's because inky was all, 'ok, I dunno what to do with this landlord character, so he's going to not be in the story for the next 9 sessions'" Pete asks, "Do we ahve a mayor?" [nobilis] Nathan says, "ha ha ha" [nobilis] Nathan says, "curses, foiled again" [nobilis] Ferris says, "hee hee" [nobilis] GM says, "mile-wide border in the forest means stuff can come in, I'll note." [nobilis] Ferris says, "I'm worried because I think our new GM is going to run a tighter ship!" Pete asks (of Nathan), "How about aerospace tech?" Nathan says, "ooh" [nobilis] Ferris says, "ok, let's get a landlord or a bane or something" Nathan says, "well, heck, I'm sold" [nobilis] Thalia says, "not a bane" [nobilis] Ferris says, "and forget the border" Pete asks, "Tech keeps working for 24 hours outside of chancel, right?" [nobilis] Ferris says, "oh I dunno, haunted forest, very atmospheric" [nobilis] Birralee says, "if we take a 2-point landlord (which the book says is an "assertive landlord") we can get a defender's blessing" [nobilis] GM admits she aims for funny even in the meglomaniac levels. [nobilis] Ferris says, "I'm intrigued by the gleam in the GM's eye for the bane" Pete says, "So, very fast, light, atmosphere/orbital craft would be a great way to get to cities with major airports easily." [nobilis] Dara says, "(still reading scrollback...)" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "so we have magic, alchemy, magic inhabitants, landlord/bane and defender's blessing?" Nathan says, "I *think* they actually function elsewhere outside just fine" [nobilis] Ferris says, "I think the landlord sounds like something we could live with" Nathan says, "but I am not really understanding the rules here" Pete says, "Also, to places in the middle of nowhere, if we have sufficiently decent landing gear and pontoons." [nobilis] Ferris says, "it's a good start" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "is the urban chancel our only entrance in to the chancel?" [nobilis] Ferris asks, "do we have leprechauns with pots o' gold?" Pete says, "If we do have a mayor, I think we have a de facto landlord." [nobilis] Nathan says (to Thalia), "I think you have a regular entrance" [nobilis] Chrysoula says, "No, you get a few others for free." [nobilis] Thalia says (to ferris), "ooh, that would rock" [nobilis] Ferris says, "where do they lead? I guess we'll find out" [nobilis] Nathan says, "but it's hidden" Pete says, "But we don't have to have a mayor." [nobilis] Birralee says, "they're always after me lucky nobilis" [nobilis] Ferris says, "hee hee" Dara asks, "OK, caught up. Urban side is thinking nanotech + defender's blessing?" [nobilis] Chrysoula writes down the Yasmina stuff: magic, alchemy, magical inhabitants, defender's blessing, landlord -2. [nobilis] Thalia says, "okay, we can scatter the other entrances throughout the forest and one in some farmhouse in one of the farmlands" Pete says, "(But if we do, that gives us 12 points, letting us take DB 4, extrapolated tech, nanotech, and aerospaces.)" [nobilis] Chrysoula says, "Magical inhabitants will be fun to come up with. Yay!" Nathan says (to Pete), "I would be cool with that" Pete says, "(Spaces?)" Dara asks, "Aerospaces?" Nathan says, "aerospice" [nobilis] Ferris says, "I think if Thalia has a friendly magic unicorn, then Rufus has a friend who's a magic sheep named Dave" [nobilis] Birralee says, "this chancel is sounding cool" Pete says, "Aerotech." GM pokes at you guys. What do you have? Birralee says, "they have a contract with Boeing, sounds like" Nathan asks (of GM), "what's the deal on chancel high-tech working outside? we have to sustain it with realm points?" Dara asks, "What about the nanotech like that from Diamind Age?" Dara says, "Er, Diamond." [nobilis] Thalia asks, "have we used up all our points?" GM says, "/technically/, your tempest has to do a realm preservation on it and then you have to maintain the preservation with realm points. But yes." Nathan says (to GM), "wait, really? hunh" [nobilis] GM asks, "Yep, y'all can go to bed if you want. We'll meet again on Saturday at 10 PST?" [nobilis] Ferris says, "I think so..." GM says, "Yep." [nobilis] Ferris says, "that's noon here, which sounds good" [nobilis] Birralee says, "that works for me" [nobilis] Ferris says, "I can only hope that inky reminds me on friday night" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "10am PST?" [nobilis] Thalia says, "okay" Nathan says, "I was pretty sure I'd seen a rule saying you could sustain for 1 RMP/day without any preservation" [nobilis] Nathan says, "I will do my best Rob" Pete says, "I *think* we have four levels of Defender's Blessing, extrapolated tech, nanotchnology, advanced aerotech (fast, light, atmosphere/orbital craft), an open border, a 4 RMP gateway, and a -1 point landlord (mayor)." [nobilis] Nathan says, ""See you tomorrow!" I will say in a cheery voice" [nobilis] Ferris sets his inky alarm to go 'bzzzt' Nathan says, "that's great" GM says (to Nathan), "Technically that's for Realm Creations of the non-Resourced type." Nathan says, "I will make up wacky prototypes and then try and convince investors on Earth to build for them before they decay" Dara asks, "4 levels of DB == 2 point-auctoritas?" Nathan says (to GM), "ah" GM says, "But I think that is lame." [nobilis] Ferris says, "ok, good work team" Nathan says (to Dara), "4 levels = 4 points" [nobilis] Thalia asks, "we may be able to buy more stuff once we know maga's scores rights?" [nobilis] Ferris says, "hey, true" Nathan says, "er, I mean, 4 levels cost 8 realm points and grant 4 auctoritas points" Pete says (to Dara), "8 realm points, buying four levels." Pete says, "Timing." Dara says, "Wow, that's a bunch." Nathan says, "which means we are pretty buff in-chancel" GM asks, "Is that three levels of resources?" Nathan says, "as are all the inhabitants" [nobilis] Birralee says, "yeah. we may can get a useful borderguard instead of DB" Pete says, "8 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 + 0 - 1." [nobilis] Thalia says, "we may want to keep our options open for defenses or for more gateway stuff" Nathan says (to GM), "advanced tech for 2, plus 2 weird sciences, nanotech and aerotech" [nobilis] Thalia says, "cool" [nobilis] GM says, "Yeah, wI'll send mail once I get maga's sheet from him." [nobilis] Ferris says, "I dunno, the effective auctoritas is all right by me" [nobilis] Thalia asks (of gm), "you have our stuff written down?" [nobilis] GM says, "yep" [nobilis] Thalia says, "rock" Birralee says, "bedtime for me" Birralee has disconnected. [nobilis] Thalia says, "i dunno about the others, but i am okay with you going ahead and building the imperators thematically" Pete says, "Which, I think assumes 2 points from X. Hrm." [nobilis] Thalia says, "but i guess we can discuss that some other time" GM says, "X does have 2 points, yes." Nathan says (to Pete), "I think she said Storme already told her she had that" GM says, "She told me before she left./" Thalia says, "so i am off" Thalia says, "night" Pete says, "Ah, good." Thalia goes home. Nathan asks (of GM), "ok, so are we set?" GM thinks so. As an overview, this is a pretty cyperpunky setting? Failing urban landscape, fair amount of supertech? Dara says, "I'm having trouble keeping which group is in which chancel straight." Dara says, "Perhaps I should look at the signup sheet." Nathan says, "well" Nathan says, "I take a more hopeful view" Pete says (to Dara), "You, Nathan, X, and I are in J, the urban decay." Nathan says, "and see it as a high-tech happy shiny place *disguised* as a grungy urban burnout site" Nathan says, "but clearly it's not that happy, since it's slowly fading away, despite all their technical efforts" Nathan says, "I don't know in what sense it's fading" Nathan says, "if blocks are just disappearing or what" GM says, "We'll see." Dara says, "If we had fun ideas for other techy things, I'd go for that instead of so much DB, I think." Nathan says, "but certainly if it's a grungy cyberpunk setting I will do my best to make the inhabitants shape up and look happy" GM says, "technically it's the imperator who is failing, which affects the chancel only indirectly." Nathan says (to Dara), "I would too, but I can't think of any" GM asks, "no borderguard?" Nathan says, "we could lower DB by 1 and get a gateway that only costs 2 RMP to use" Nathan says, "borderguards are too expensive" Pete says, "We never did go into details about the Harvest." Nathan says, "it'd be 6 points for ones with no penetration" [whiz-games] Whizzard says, "Night all. Thanks for the suggestions." GM says, "Don't worry about the harvest for now." GM says, "It will basically be harvesting the energy of wishes or stars or x-ness." GM says, "and take up people's time." Nathan says, "when you wish upon a star / we put it in a sack and then, fwoop, off to the factory with it" Dara giggles. Pete says, "Yay." Dara asks (of GM), "Can we get Diamond Age-level nanotech with 1 point?" Dara says, "(if you've read that)" Dara says, "I'm thinking of the clouds of nanobots that fought each other and stuck to people and stuff." GM says, "You have 4 points spent on badass technology. I think you can, yes." Nathan asks, "ok, are we set?" GM says, "yep." Pete says, "Unless we want to think up more tech." Dara asks, "Holography?" Dara asks, "Mind reading?" Nathan says, "enh" Pete asks, "Full-immersion holography, like Trek?" Nathan says, "mind reading I'm not big on" Nathan says, "it seems kind of counter to my philosophy" Nathan says, "holography would be fun" GM says, "thought-records would get you bizarre written stuff ala nobilis excerpts, but yeah." Pete says, "Cranial implants could get us live, on-the-fly connection to our nanites, as well as telepathy for members of the Familia with only 1 realm." GM says, "holography would be another weird science." Nathan says, "yeah, although we'd have to pay to sustain them outside" Dara says, "Hey, we could implement our old telepathy scheme with the nanites ;-)" Pete says, "Mmm, true." Dara asks (of Nathan), "After a day, right?" Nathan says (to Pete), "that's kind of like the thing in, um, a deepness in the sky or whatever" Nathan says, "(which I have not finished but has a cool scene with the guy controlling his nanobots with a cranial implant)" Pete asks, "Mmm, yeah. Altohugh you mean (to Dara), right?" Dara doesn't think he's read deepness. GM looks um hm. Pete says, "Or, oh, yeah. Thought you were responding to the telepathy comment." GM goes to check with Rebecca on a rules call. Nathan says, "well, no, since you brought it up" Nathan says, "but I dunno" Nathan says, "I guess technically those of us with realm 1 can do a realm divination for 1 point to communicate telepathically" Dara asks (of nathan), "What's your domain again?" Nathan says, "Stars" Dara says, "Ah, right." GM coughs. Nathan says, "but I assume that would only work as long as you sustained the miracle, so you couldn't do any other miracles" Pete says, "But presumably if you went off and did other miracles, you'd need to spend another point to do it again." GM says, "You don't have to maintain the extrapolative and weird science stuff." Nathan asks (of GM), "new ruling?" Nathan asks, "wait, you don't?" GM says, "it's defined as working on earth." Pete exclaims, "Woo!" Nathan says, "see, that's what I thought, but it seems totally abusive" GM says, "it's like 'normal magic' rather than 'realm magic'." Nathan says, "but hey" GM is covering her face /even now/. Dara says (to Nathan), "Abusive ;-)" Nathan says, "abusable, I guess" GM says, "She points out that arbitrary supertech within a chancel is free. :-)" Dara says, "Like any other part of nobilis isn't as abusive or more." Nathan says, "oh, ok" Nathan says (to Dara), "well, ok, I guess" Dara asks, "Oh, the whole point of spending more points is that it works out of the chancel?" GM says, "Yep." Nathan says (to Dara), "but it seems like here I can churn out, say, super-spacecraft for the whole earth if I want" Nathan says, "which would be, I dunno, pretty much a major creation or a series of minor ones" Dara says, "Right, but then all the other nobles gang up on you for being a wanker." Nathan says, "I guess, yeah" Nathan says, "I'll go back to influencing the populace indirectly" GM says, "Or they don't, but the Cammora does, or the authorities want to come visit and find out where you pay taxes and so forth and so on." Nathan says, ""look!" I will say. "pretty prototype! make like this!"" GM exclaims, "Doing wacky direct influence stuff and having an open border is a fun combo!" GM says, "Esp. with indestructible inhabitants." Nathan says, "hee hee" Nathan says, "true" Dara laughs. Dara asks, "What happens to the DB when the natives wander elsewhere?" GM says, "Okay, she says arbitrary in-chancel supertech is basically magical inhabitants." GM says, "Um, they're no longer subject to it." Dara nods. Pete asks, "So do we want/need holography outside the chancel?" Dara asks, "What about cloaking tech?" Nathan says, "I can see using it inside the chancel to hide ourselves" Dara says, "So we can install some orbiting satellites that NASA can't see." Pete asks, "Also, do we need separate tech for the telepathic electronics interfacing, or is that included in nanotech?" Nathan says (to Dara), "ok, that would be pretty excellent" Pete says (to Dara), "Mmm, yeah." Pete asks, "Nanotech, cloaking, arospace, and neural-interface, then?" Nathan says, "yeah" Pete says, "(For outside, plus whatever the heck we want inside.)" Dara asks, "And bump DB down to 6 points/3 auctoritas?" GM asks, "Is this changing your price scheme?" Pete says, "Sounds good to me." Pete says, "So now we've got six points for tech, and six for DB." Nathan says, "so those four, normal advanced tech, 3 defender's blessing, and a -1 landlord" Dara says, "And -2 open." Nathan says, "oh yeah" GM says, "Man." Dara says, "Heh." GM says, "You sure you don't want AIs? Maybe your mayor / city manager is an AI. :-)" Pete says, "I think we've outlasted the other group." Dara says, "We have AI's in-chancel ;-)" Dara says, "Having the landlord be MCP would be amusing." Nathan says, "ha ha ha" Dara says, "Though also scary." Ferris says, "yay" Pete says, "I like it." Pete says, "Luckily, he's only a -1, not a -4." Nathan says, "tcshah, you call that a master control program" Nathan says, "minor control program, that's what I call it" Pete says, "(-4: you have a landlord, your landlord is powerful, and your landlord *hates* you.)" Dara laughs. GM exclaims, "Not hates you!" GM exclaims, "Just a meglomaniac!" GM exclaims, "he is the center of the world, he is all powerful and if you fuck with him, he will attempt to imprison you under the sea! but if you play along, he's great fun!" Nathan exclaims, "hooray!" Nathan says, "I mean, boo" GM thinks that landlords are so light a penalty because they're a guaranteed GMC. Pete says, "I like -1 'he is the center of his office, he controls permits, and if you make a typo, he will politely ask you to refile in triplicate'." Dara asks, "GMC?" GM says, "GM character" Dara says, "Ah." GM says, "The main reason they're a flaw is because your Imperator protects him." Pete says, "Mmm. With in-chancel AI, we can even have a Hendroidson." GM says, "Since they can be super helpful in running and defending a domain, esp. a level 4 one, who has 8 RMPs and an auctoritus of 1" GM says, "though in your domain that would clash with Dara way too much." Nathan says, "heh" Dara exclaims, "Raar!" Dara says, "No landlord gets a better auctoritus than I." GM says, "But in a low-power domain, they're pretty cool-- they're arrogant and self-centered because they ARE the bets suited to defending and ruling the chancel." Pete asks, "s/domain/realm/, aye?" Dara says, "(I assume you mean chancel/realm)" GM says, "aye" Pete says, "I'm amused at the prospect of an AI with RMPs." Dara says, "Heck, you could get an AI that was a noble." GM says, "no, I am wrong. 12 rmps." Dara says, "Wow." GM nods, one game I was in for a very short time had an ennobled AI. GM says, "level 3 landlord has 9 rmps." Pete says, "If he gets too big for his britches, though, we can just take him out of the chancel." Pete says, "See how long he can keep maintaining himself with his own MPs." Dara says, "Hard to get anchors to drink the battery acid, is the only problem." Pete says (to Dara), "You're reminding me of that bike." GM exclaims, "Follow the ghost rules!" Pete says, "The one that bit Davey." Dara laughs. Dara asks, "There are rules for ghosts who get anchors?" GM should actually figure out who your landlord will be, hm. And the other landlord. Since the respective imperators should like them. Dara says, "I wondered about that." Pete says, "(AFK briefly.)" GM says, "landlords basically come about when the imperator likes somebody but doesn't have an estate to give them." GM says, "they also have noble/anchor immunity to direct mircles" Pete says, "(Back.)" Pete asks, "What are the ghost rules, anyway?" GM says, "um, your imperator helps you get your first anchor and after that you possess your anchor and use their bodily fluids to make new anchors." Nathan says, "you can't use aspect miracles except through your anchors" Pete says (to Nathan), "The anchoring ones, I meant." GM is looking forward, a bit, to actually playing out anchoring some folks. :-) Pete asks, "Oh, should we name the chancel?" GM . o O ( You want me to swallow WHAT? ) GM says, "Well, technically they're Locus Yasmina and Locus Jehiela but they can have nicknames that you come up with." GM will work out longer titles for the two Imperators as well. Nathan says, "Freddy" GM should dig up that title list. Pete says, "It should probably have an actual geographic name, even." GM asks, "Oh yes, that too. Is it part of NYC?" Nathan says, "Astro-city" Nathan says, "I would be fine with NYC if we can't think of anything better, although chicago might be more convenient in some ways (more centrally located, less crowded)" Nathan says, "of course, maybe crowded = easier to hide our neighborhood" Pete says, "The mythical six borough." Pete says, "Sixth, even." GM looks at titles. Pete says, "East Westbridge" Pete says, "New Suffolk" Pete says, "Darsley." Pete says, "Nobliton." Nathan says, "hee hee" Ferris says, "Lexland, Luthorville, Otisburg..." Pete says, "Jehelita." Pete asks, "Are we through with the log?" GM thinks so. Nathan says, "I think so" GM is just poking at flavor stuff now. Nathan says, "it's all over but the listing of city names"
