[nobilis] GM asks, "Are you able to play today?"

Xaylia arrives, looking for booty.

GM says, "Excellent."

[nobilis] Xaylia says, "yeah, though I may be intermittently idle"

GM says, "There was a desire expressed last time we played to return to the chancel."

GM says, "I'm down with this, because hey, Duchess should be around soon, I hear."

Pete asks, "Mmm. Shall we jump ahead to morning and goodbyes, then?"

GM says, "Amond other Earthside funs."

[nobilis] Iain says, "Whoa, nobilis."

GM says, "Welp, you'll be escorted back to Ishiki, where the gate is, so we can go ahead with goodbyes there."

Jim arrives, looking for booty.

[nobilis] GM says, "No game next week, hopefully back to normal 2/1 schedule week after that. For reference."

GM asks, "Any thoughts on what you'll be doing with Tyra-sensei?"

[nobilis] Pete says, "I was just about to ask her that question :)"

Jim says, "Not really."

Eolo asks (of Tyra), "er -- we were thinking about going back to our home world soon -- did you want to stay here? or come along?"

(From GM) Vasya says, "Uh, I think she should go with you." He seems to be covering an expression of horror at the thought of having a pocket-sized taskmistress around.

[nobilis] Duchess says, "on my way"

(From GM) Tyra gives Vasya a Look. "I agree. It's too much work to box ears that need boxing here."

Pete says, "We would be happy to have you come with us."

(From GM) Tyra says, "Excellent. So how do we make this 'gate' open?"

Pete says, "Ah. Er."

Pete looks upward.

GM says, "It's a nice day out. You're on the hilltop where you arrived."

Eolo asks, "don't we just, um, concentrate?"

[nobilis] Nathan says, "(man, why didn't anyone tell me the name was wrong?)"

Pete says, "Hmm. On the other side, there was a song."

Pete hums it, mumbling some of the words.

Nathan mentally feels around to see if there's still any gate presence like there was when we arrived

(From GM) Tyra hops off whoever and walks through the chest-high grass. She pulls out her tiny sword and closes her eyes and slowly spins. "I can feel something here, like our gateways."

[nobilis] GM says, "Nathan can feel something faint as well."

[nobilis] GM says, "Xaylia is best at sensing the gateway, but Dara is aware of it without being able to sense it."

Nathan says, "I think we, um, concentrate and try and will it open. Or something."

[nobilis] Pete says, "I imagine RMP wouldn't be useful, since we're not in our Ream."

[nobilis] Pete says, "Realm, even."

Pete asks, "Clapping... there was clapping, wasn't there?"

[nobilis] GM says, "you can spend them even if you're not in your realm, on objects of your realm."

Jim says, "And there was that song thing."

Xaylia concentrates on the gate

GM says, "Xaylia's aura flares up, and Vasya takes a step backwards."

GM says, "Then a bit of Xaylia's fire flickers out and the gate starts burning as well, becoming visible to everybody."

Nathan says (to Xaylia), "nice"

GM says, "There's even a fiery doorhandle."

Xaylia says, "oh, that was easy"

Pete tries touching it.

Thalia arrives, looking for booty.

[nobilis] Thalia says, "here"

[nobilis] Nathan says, "we're almost back"

GM says, "Pete touches it and his own fainter aura sparks. It's like touching a live wire, but not as unpleasant. You could open it."

Pete does so.

GM says, "Stars gape beyond."

Nathan says, "I hope Mitrasama remembers us"

GM says, "They're Earth's view of the stars, Nathan knows."

Nathan says, "This looks like the right place -- I recognize this view"

Nathan steps through, after anyone going in ahead.

Jim says, "There's no place like home."

Pete says, "Strange. I thought constellations were only powers here, not back home."

Pete follows Nathan.

Nathan says (to Pete), "I think the stars are always the gateway"

Nathan says, "This is making me wonder about my aeronautics plans back home"

Xaylia wonders if she should stay this side until everyone has gone through

GM says, "There's a flash of being surrounded by stars, and motion. The stars are people, each one an individual dressed in gauze and light. There are curious expressions on their faces, and the flash of glimmering cages around each of them, and then descent, until you're in a Japanese garden at dawn."

GM says, "Tyra-sensei tugs on Xaylia's shoe. "Now you, girl. And take me with you.""

Nathan says, "wow, that was something"

Nathan dusts off his hands. "I think it's time for lunch again."

Xaylia says (to Tyra), "hold on to me, then"

Xaylia steps through the gate

Pete asks, "Perhaps breakfast, first?"

Nathan asks, "well, ok -- brunch?"

GM says, "Behind Xaylia, the fire goes out around the gate as it slowly closes. The last thing she sees is Vasya booting it closed a bit more quickly."

[nobilis] GM exclaims, "Thalia!"

Pete says, "Fair enough."

[nobilis] Thalia says, "hiya"

[nobilis] GM says, "You've spent the last few days either hanging out with unicorn buddies, or working on your astrology and alchemy with the wizards."

[nobilis] GM says, "But eventually you notice you haven't seen anybody from the urban chancel around in a while."

[nobilis] Pete asks, "Do we have any idea what day of the week this is?"

[nobilis] GM says, "You can decide."

[nobilis] Pete says, "It's been most of a week... so I'd guess Thursday or Friday."

[nobilis] Dara back.

Pete says (to Tyra-Sensei), "Welcome to Earth."

Nathan flips open his cellphone. "Hey, Renaissance, we're back -- anything happen while we were gone?"

Dara stretches, cracks her back, and creates a flock of butterflies, just for old time's sake.

[nobilis] Thalia says, "studying with the wizards, please"

Dara mentally explores the extent of the chancel, checking to make sure there are no new threats, and that the border is still holding up OK.

Pete says, "I wonder how our techies are doing on their projects."

(From GM) Ren says, "Hah, nothing at all. NOthing I couldn't handle, anyhow."

Thalia is out for a walk, having just finished a grueling exam

[nobilis] Thalia asks, "are you all in the rural or urban? or the park?"

GM says, "The border seems ok. There doesn't seem to be anything notable happening..."

[nobilis] GM says, "They'd be in Urban, in a Japanese garden there."

Xaylia sits down nearby and starts telling her doll a story

Nathan says (to Renaissance), "great, I knew you could handle it -- so the other side of the gate looks pretty safe; no massing armies or anything"

Dara checks on those shadow-ghost things.

Nathan says (to Renaissance), "if you get any reports of memory loss or deserts over here that could be a bad sign, though"

Thalia says, "(talking to self) havne't seen the others in a while. Maybe they are all in the city. I should get over there and see what they are up to"

Thalia gets lost several times trying to get to the city (it's been a while)

(From GM)

(From GM) "Hah, memory loss, that happens with a bottle of whiskey. But deserts? Uh, right." says Ren.

GM says, "The shadow-ghosts? Oh... you can pick up a couple of them. Around. Not as many as you thought though... They're still futiley trying to harass chancel inhabitants."

Nathan asks (of Pete), "right, so, food?"

Pete says, "Sounds good to me."

Pete asks, "How about waffles?"

Nathan says, "mm, waffles"

Thalia turns a corner and finds herself in the Japanese Garden

Thalia says, "I don't recall this...oh hey, everyone"

Pete asks (of Thalia), "Heya -- how about some waffles?"

Thalia says (to Thalia), "mm. that sounds good. I haven't had eaten in a while"

Thalia says, "er to Pete"

(From GM) "Oh hey," says Ren. "Xaylia's aunt did drop by and say Xaylia's parents were looking for her..."

Dara exclaims, "Xaylia's aunt? So she survived!"

Xaylia asks, "my parents?"

Thalia says (to Pete), "there is a new Waffle Boy that opened up on 32nd Avenue over there"

Xaylia looks slightly worried, and tries to work out how to tell her parents the thruth in a way they'll believe

Thalia says (to Pete), "they deliver - I saw it when I was walking around a few days back"

Xaylia says, "er, truth"

Pete says (to Thalia), "Excellent."

Thalia says, "they are good, but don't ask for the boisenberry filling"

Pete asks, "Oh?"

(From GM) Tyra-sensei hops off Xaylia's shoe and looks around. SHe looks a bit disappointed. "This looks just like home."

Thalia asks, "it's not *actually* a berry. They thought they would be cute and call potatoes berries, from Boise, you know?"

Pete asks (of Tyra-sensei), "Ah, but do you have waffles back home?"

Nathan says, "hee hee"

[nobilis] GM says, "Her aunt was rescued from the shadow-ghosts before."

Xaylia says (to tyra), "it is here. other bits are different"

[nobilis] Dara asks, "On a technical note, if I create food in-chancel, and someone eats it, and then they leave for a day, do they suddenly get hungry? Or, I dunno, lose part of their spleen?"

[nobilis] Dara says (to GM), "Oh, forgot that bit."

Nathan says, "I'll stick with the boysenberries, then"

[nobilis] GM says, "Nope."

Pete says (to Thalia), "Crazy. Next you're going to tell me they put gravy on 'em."

(From GM) Tyra says, "What are waffles?"

Pete says, "C'mon, we'll show you."

Nathan says (to Tyra), "see, it's getting better alreayd"

Pete heads toward 32nd.

Nathan follows along.

(From GM) "I figured she'd want to see them, so I told the aunt to bring 'em over," continues Ren.

Thalia runs to catch up

Xaylia follows the phone

Xaylia asks (of phone), "Where are they at the moment, please?"

GM says, "So they're arriving on a 2 pm flight today. Apparently was a total pain to convince them to come out here."

[nobilis] Thalia asks (of gm), "whatever happened to the demon child i told a convoluted story to?"

Xaylia asks, "they're flying?"

Nathan gives Justin Banks a call as he walks. "Hey, when you get a chance, come over to the Waffle Boy and let me know how the university is going"

[nobilis] Thalia has a lot of reading to catch up on

Xaylia says, "oh dear"

Xaylia says, "I'm going to be in so much trouble"

Thalia asks (of xaylia), "you don't like planes?"

Dara asks (of Ren), "Are they arriving in Chicago, or do we have an airport I didn't know about before?"

GM says, "The aunt tried to tell me some nonsense about-- well, yeah, of course they're flying."

GM says, "Chicago."

[nobilis] GM says (to Thalia), "She's around."

Dara asks (of Ren), "Er, finish that thought--what did the aunt tell you?"

Xaylia says (to phone), "(quietly) are they mad at me"

Xaylia asks, "?"

(From GM) Ren says, "Oh, some nonsense about how they wouldn't approve of Xaylia's new position. But they're just mortals, I'm sure they'll come around once they really understand it. Right?"

Thalia says (to Pete), "Hey, you almost walked past Waffle Boy. It's over here"

Xaylia hunches her shoulders and scurries into the waffle place

Pete says, "Huh, I was expecting a bigger sign."

Pete says, "With a waffle on it."

[nobilis] Dara says, "Hey, maybe her folks are our corrupted mystery cult."

[nobilis] Thalia asks, "also, i am confused. i thought nathan was talking on the phone with Ren. And then gave the phone to Xaylia. Does Nathan have another phone to talk to Justin Banks with?"

Thalia nods to a waitress and squeezes in to a large booth with Xaylia

[nobilis] Nathan says, "oh, whoops -- well, perhaps I made the call before I gave it to Xaylia"

[nobilis] Pete says, "Maybe Xaylia borroed someone else's phone."

[nobilis] Nathan says, "I'd better get another cellphone"

[nobilis] Xaylia asks, "we have a corrupted mystery cult?"

[nobilis] Thalia tosses Nathan hers

Pete orders an extra thick stack with raspberries and cream.

GM says, "The waitstaff of course doesn't blink about the centaur."

[nobilis] GM exclaims, "Xaylia needs her own phone!"

Xaylia heads into the restrooms and tries to scrub herself clean

GM says, "Tyra sits on the table and wishes for some Tyra-sized tableware. She's totally unsurprised when it appears in front of her."

[nobilis] GM whistles innocently.

[nobilis] Thalia says, "oh right, i never used my extra point to buy shapeshifting as a gift in order to hide the centaur self"

[nobilis] GM asks, "Was that your plan?"

[nobilis] Xaylia wonders if Dara could make her some new clothes, since she hasn't changed her clothes since becoming a noble

[nobilis] Thalia says (to GM), "can i do it now? yeah"

Dara says (to Xaylia), "Here, kid, have a phone. Phone number's 634-5#9*."

Dara hands Xaylia her phone, and creates a new one for herself.

[nobilis] Dara says (to Xaylia), "Just don't leave the chancel for more than 24 hours ;-)"

[nobilis] GM says, "Sure. I'll add it to my sheet"

Thalia belatedly shapeshifts to look like average human when she finds her four hooves not fitting in to the booth

Xaylia frowns at the phone, and tries to hide it

Dara asks (of Xaylia), "Do you need a pocket?"

GM asks, "So, everybody munches breakfast, except Xaylia, who hides in the bathroom trying to make herself look proper?"

Xaylia says, "yes please"

Dara asks, "In fact, do you need a new outfit?"

[nobilis] Pete says, "I'm still wary of the notion of Dara making people clothing."

[nobilis] Thalia says, "leave the chancel, and poof!"

Xaylia looks down at the grass and mud stains all over her skirt. "Um, that would be really nice. But nothing too fancy. And no trousers."

Thalia asks (of xaylia), "after breakfast, why don't we go shopping to buy your own clothes?"

Dara says, "Let's go shopping."

Xaylia says, "okay"

[nobilis] GM tries to remember the name of the Aunt.

Xaylia says, "I don't think my parents would be happy if I was dirty when I was with them"

[nobilis] Xaylia says, "Clara"

Dara asks (of Xaylia), "What do your parents do?"

Xaylia says, "they do lots of things"

Dara nods encouragingly.

Xaylia says, "my mother mostly looks after the house and the farm"

Xaylia says, "my father spends a lot of time talking to other grown-ups about important stuff"

Dara asks, "They know about the kind of things we've encountered recently, don't they? Like in your story about Cinderella?"

Xaylia says, "they tell me stories sometimes"

Xaylia says, "father always said I was too nosy because I wanted to hear all the stories, but mother said I should hear them young"

GM says (to Nathan), "Justin Banks calls back and is able to give an update on the university. He's been constructing a staff (isn't everybody?) and worrying about out-chancel enrollment."

Xaylia scrubs her doll to try and get the stains off, then looks sadly at it

Xaylia asks, "When we go shopping, do you think I could get a satchel or backpack?"

Dara exclaims, "Sure!"

Dara says, "Here, let me see the doll again."

Xaylia says, "my dolly is a bit big to hide in a pocket"

Xaylia hands her doll to Dara

Thalia says (to xaylia), "yeah. my knapsack has been my saving grace"

Nathan says (to Justin), "yeah, I think we'll have to limit the number of extra-chancel folks we let in for the first class"

GM says (to Nathan), "He's a little dubious about how this can be done without being totally discriminatory but will trust in your judgement."

Dara concentrates, holds the doll in one hand, puts her other hand on top of it, then *shifts* the top hand to become a stain-dissolving mist, which she sweeps through the doll. Once through, the doll looks like new, and Dara is holding a small ball of dirt and muck, which she throws across the room into the garbage can on the wall.

Dara says, "Here you go."

Dara hands the doll back.

Xaylia blinks, inspects the doll carefully, and smiles at Dara

Nathan says (to Justin), "well, how about if we put out a few discreet advertisements, explain the program requires staying on campus the whole time, and I'll personally screen the extra-chancel applicants"

Xaylia says, "Thanks!"

(From GM) Justin says, "Okay, that's fair."

Dara grins back. "You're welcome."

(From GM) Ren calls, "So, I was just going to send some mooks to go get the parental units. Is that still kosher?"

Dara asks (of Ren), "Er, I think we'll meet them ourselves. What's the flight information?"

Dara asks (of Ren), "And what's Clara's number?"

(From GM) Ren obediently passes along the flight information. Nice, first class, the best treatment. Lots of luxury. He also gives Clara's number.

Xaylia asks, "do we have time to get me some new clothes before they arrive?"

Dara says, "Sure. If you're worried, we can go now."

[nobilis] GM says, "If other people have business they want to tend to, just speak up, btw. Or not, as the fancy strike syou."

[nobilis] Thalia says, "i am shopping"

(From GM) Tyra says, "Oh, a school? Perhaps I could make myself useful there..."

Thalia asks (of tyra), "what would you teach?"

Xaylia says, "I would like to go shopping now"

Dara says, "Let's go."

Dara says (to Ren), "I'll need a credit line on my card."

Dara asks, "Thalia? You wanted to come?"

[nobilis] Xaylia says, "(really quick afk)"

Dara says, "I presume, nobles or not, that the guys aren't so interested."

Thalia says, "i am coming i am coming"

Pete says, "I'm curious how some of those special projects are coming along."

Nathan says (to Tyra), "that's a good idea -- I was planning on having it be mostly an engineering school but that's no reason to neglect the other subjects"

(From GM) Tyra crosses her arms. "Manners. Weapons-skills. Metaphysics. Literature." She looks annoyed. "A good teacher can teach anything, given enough warning."

GM asks, "Pete, you had a construction company in the works, yes?"

[nobilis] Pete says, "Indeed I did."

[nobilis] Xaylia says, "bak"

Nathan says, "there we go, then"

Nathan says, "I'll have Justin come and talk to you"

Xaylia heads off the shops with Thalia and Dara, then

[nobilis] GM asks, "Also, have you informed your sweetie about your current status?"

[nobilis] Pete says, "I believe my people were negotiating with Nathan's people about the university construction."

[nobilis] GM says, "I also recall this."

[nobilis] Pete says (to GM), "Partially. She's coming up with weekend."

Thalia makes note to ask Tyra for some weapons instruction

[nobilis] Pete says, "(Hence my wondering what day it was.)"

[nobilis] GM says, "Aha."

[nobilis] GM says, "Has anybody else actually taken an anchor? I remember Jim did so offscreen, and X may have taken Clara."

[nobilis] Xaylia says, "yeah, I have Clara"

[nobilis] Thalia says, "i wanted the unicorn"

[nobilis] GM says, "Okay, yeah, I remember that."

[nobilis] Thalia says, "i don't know if we were going to save it to play it out or if it's done"

[nobilis] GM says, "Let's say it's done."

[nobilis] Thalia says, "woo"

[nobilis] GM asks, "How about the guys?"

[nobilis] Nathan says, "I haven't found anybody I need to anchor yet"

Dara re-outfits Xaylia with new clothes and a knapsack, and while they're at it, gets all three of them a whole new wardrobe. All before 1:00. Dara's new wardrobe is fairly... eclectic. But snazzy.

Thalia says (to dara), "oh wow, thanks"

[nobilis] GM says, "Ok."

[nobilis] Dara says, "If Clara's available, we bring her along, too, for advice about what would impress X's folks."

[nobilis] GM says, "*cough* Okay."

Xaylia is more soberly clad in a pale blue dress and a grey knapsack

GM says, "Initial contact with Clara has Clara hugging Xaylia and apologizing to her. Apparently X's parents had gotten in touch and Clara simply didn't know what to TELL them, she was still working out what was going on herself. So she talked to the nice boy in the phone and, well, things kind of got out of hand."

Xaylia carefully hides her doll and her new phone inside the knapsack

GM says, "Clara also steers the shoppers away from the more popular kid's fashion stores, and into secondhand stores."

Xaylia asks (of Clara), "are they mad at me?"

(From GM) Clara bites her lip. "I'm sure it'll work out. They... they want to take you home."

Xaylia finds a big threadbare cardigan to wear over the dress, too

Xaylia nods at Clara, and seems to shrink into her clothing

Thalia says (to xaylia), "hey, take this one instead. you don't want them to think we aren't treating you well here"

Xaylia says (to Clara), "it isn't your fault, auntie"

Thalia hands a nice spiffy cardigan to Xaylia

Xaylia says (to Thalia), "oh, no!"

Thalia says, "we can roll up the sleeves a bit if it's too big"

(From GM) Clara squeezes Xaylia's hand. "I'll talk to them. I'm sure we can work /something/ out." But there's fear and worry in her voice.

Xaylia says, "it's wrong for children to wear anything too... modern and flashy"

Thalia blinks

Thalia says, "er sorry"

[Crows-Nest] Thalia asks, "Xaylia is Amish, isn't she?"

[Crows-Nest] Xaylia says, "not quite"

GM says, "Clara is a youngish woman, maybe 30 or so. She'd be pretty if she wasn't clearly stressed, and didn't have her hair very tightly pulled back in a bun."

[Crows-Nest] Xaylia says, "you'll see"

GM says, "(I say to the non-children in the group)"

Xaylia squeezes Clara's hand. "It's really not your fault, and I don't think they *can* take me away."

Dara asks (of Clara), "Er, what do we need to know about X's parents?"

Xaylia says, "but they might make me feel like I should go."

Thalia asks (of clara), "what exactly do they think is going on with Xaylia here, anyway?"

Xaylia carefully fastens the knapsack, and ties her hair back in a neat plait.

(From GM) Clara lowers her eyes. "Most of my family is very... religious. I can't really talk about it."

Xaylia asks, "when are they arriving?"

Dara says, "2:00"

Thalia checks her shape-shifting to make sure her human look is holding strong. I don't think it would do anyone any good to have me shift back

Xaylia says, "we should go meet them. I don't want to be late."

Dara nods.

Xaylia looks thoughtful. "and -"

Dara asks, "Yes?"

Thalia asks (of xaylia), "is it okay if we drive to the airport? or do we have to walk?"

Thalia says, "i guess i can shift in to a horse and pull a buggy if need be"

Xaylia says, "and, um. You two are both women, but you don't act like *proper* women should."

Xaylia says, "I'm not sure my parents will understand that"

Thalia asks (of xaylia), "are we dressed properly, at least?"

Dara says, "Well, I could look like a guy, I guess."

Dara asks (of Xaylia), "Would that help?"

[nobilis] Nathan says, "(it's times like this you want Jim along)"

Dara asks, "Or should we send you with Nathan and Pete?"

Xaylia looks up at Clara. "What do you think?"

GM says, "Meanwhile, Ren has rung up one of the guys, whichever one isn't involved in some other phone dealing."

[nobilis] Xaylia says, "I am quietly sniggering here, sorry"

Dara says, "Or, since they'll have to get used to it eventually, we could start 'em off now."

(From GM) CLara says nervously, "I think that perhaps there should be both a man and a properly dressed woman along. I mean, looking like a nice family can't hurt."

Xaylia says, "hmm"

Pete asks (of Ren), "Hey?"

(From GM) Ren says, "So, Pete. You know about... girls and stuff, right? You have one."

[nobilis] Nathan says, "ha ha"

Xaylia asks (of Clara), "you're coming along too, right?"

Pete says (to Ren), "Sure, I guess."

[nobilis] Xaylia says, "ha ha ha"

(From GM) Clara nods.

Thalia says (to Dara), "if you look like a guy, i guess i can pretend to be your wife in this shirt and skirt."

(From GM) Ren pauses. "Wouldn't you KNOW? I mean, they're not all like Jim... are they? I know I'm just a chunk of silicon, but..."

Dara ponders. "Well, I don't know if deception is the best idea, either."

[nobilis] Xaylia says, "wow, weirdest pairing-up ever"

Pete says (to Ren), "Ha. Jim's... a bit different. I'm not sure *what* he is, exactly."

[nobilis] Jim recaps.

[nobilis] Jim says, "Sheesh."

Xaylia lets the grown-ups decide what to do

[nobilis] (from Dara) Ren says, "What I'm trying to say is... I think I'm gay."

(From GM) Ren says dubiously, "Well, okay. So, anyhow, that ghost from the other chancel keeps hanging around sending messages into my wires. I'm trying to figure out what she /wants/."

Dara phones up Nathan. "Hey, would you be free to come with us to meet Xaylia's folks? They're a little, uh, uptight about things, and very traditional.

[nobilis] Pete says, "Hee."

[nobilis] Dara laughs and laughs.

Nathan says (to Dara), "er, I guess - I can change into my suit"

Dara asks (of Nathan), "That'd be great. Meet us at the airport at 1:45, B concourse?"

Pete asks (of Ren), "She seemed like a nice enough kid -- what kind of things has she been saying?"

[Crows-Nest] Xaylia says, "strangest adopted family ever"

Thalia asks, "would having so many people there be a bit intimidating?"

Xaylia says, "they might think it was a bit rude"

Nathan says (to Dara), "you bet"

[nobilis] Pete says, "I'm trying to figure out how an AI can go on a date with a ghost."

Nathan heads off to his place and then to the airport.

[nobilis] Nathan says, "(I'm not even sure how we get there -- I guess I go out through the open border and then grab a taxi)"

Thalia says (to xaylia), "while I am curious as to what your parents are like, I think I will stay behind then. You go with Aunt Clara and Dara, and Nathan will meet you there."

Thalia says, "that way we don't overwhelm them or seem rude"

[Crows-Nest] Thalia says, "i was looking forward to seeing them too"

[Crows-Nest] Xaylia says, "aw"

Dara puts her snazzy outfits aside for later with a sigh, and selects something more housewifey for the meetup.

(From GM) Ren says, "Oh, you know. Telling me about how that tree is doing. Asking me if I've seen Ferris. Telling me the status of her borders. That kind of thing. It's like she has nothing better to do!"

Dara says (to Thalia), "We'll bring them by the chancel, if we can."

Thalia says, "okay"

(From GM) Ren adds, "She sighs a lot. I think maybe she's a goth or something."

Pete says (to Ren), "Sounds like she just likes talking to you -- I bet she'd like to hear how you're doing, too."

[Crows-Nest] (from Dara) Ren says, "What am I supposed to do? I'm only two weeks old!"

Xaylia asks, "shall we go see my parents, then?"

(From GM) Ren says doubtfully, "Do girls do that? I've been watching some TV..."

GM says, "Off you go to the airport. Though you can get a proper car rather than taking a taxi."

Pete says (to Ren), "Sure. You two should try hanging out together some time... somehow. I'd think you would have a lot in common."

Xaylia says, "(a proper car would be better, I think)"

Thalia wanders back to the rural chancel - and heads over to the tree

Dara creates a Honda Civic.

Dara asks (of Xaylia), "Will this do?"

Xaylia says, "it'll be fine"

Dara says, "Excellent."

Pete says (to Ren), "Maybe she could log onto your cyberspace, and you could watch a movie together or something."

GM says, "The tree is a sapling now. The leaves are silvery-green, with a spidery pattern of veins."

Xaylia gets in, and seems to pull herself together somewhat

[nobilis] GM says, "Well, I was just thinking 'company car'. What Ren would have sent the mooks in."

(From GM) Ren says, "Uh, yeah. I'll keep that in mind, chief. Is that what you do with your girl?"

Dara drops off her stuff at the chancel, and drives off to the airport, where we meet up with Nathan and wait for her parents to arrive.

Xaylia fidgets slightly

Thalia opens up her alchemy book, sits next to the tree and starts studying again.

Pete says (to Ren), "Well, without the cyberspace -- we talk, we go places together, we, uh. Do other things."

[nobilis] Xaylia says (to pete), "so coy!"

GM says, "The plane arrives on schedule. There is disembarking. Many people get off. Finally, the very last couple is Elizabeth and Michael Welldon."

(From GM) Ren says, "Yeah. She's coming up this weekend, huh. I guess I can take notes."

Xaylia stands very still and waits for them to approach her.

Pete coughs.

(From GM) Ri drifts forward out of the tree to look over Thalia's shoulder.

Nathan nods politely.

Pete says, "Uh... I'll make sure to introduce you."

(From GM) Xaylia's father stops and looks over the party. His lips tighten as he sees Xaylia, and then tighten further as he lays eyes on Clara. Beside him, Elizabeth says, "Xaylia Welldon, what are you DOING?"

Xaylia dips her head, and says, "Father, Mother. Greetings to you in this public place."

(From GM) Michael lays his hand on Elizabeth's arm. "Not in public, dear. Let us leave this place." I'd say his voice was iron, but you all know Ferris now.

(From GM) They sweep towards the Nobles, and Elizabeth catches up Xaylia's hand, but doesn't say another word.

Xaylia gestures towards the car with her free hand. "Uh, transportation..."

Dara says, "Welcome! My name's Dara."

Pete asks (of Ren), "By the way, while I have you on the line... have you been monitoring the research projects that Jehiela had set up?"

Thalia says, "Hiya Ri"

Thalia says, "any chance you understand any of this? I could use someone to quiz me on this chapter"

(From GM) Ren says, "Well, sure. I'm the big one."

Xaylia allows her mother to drag her onwards

(From GM) Ri says, "I don't know what the symbols mean, I'm afraid."

GM asks, "How do the Nobles attempt to arrange car seating?"

Pete asks (of Ren), "How's progress looking? Anything approaching actual implementation yet?"

(From GM) Ren says airily, "We can schedule an aeronautics demo, I suppose."

Dara asks, "Xaylia, can you introduce me to your parents?"

Pete asks, "Mmm, that sounds good -- do we need an airport first, though?"

Nathan offers the front seat to Xaylia's father.

(From GM) Ren says, "Well, no. This is all stuff that can be launched from buildings."

(From GM) Michael says, "I am Michael Welldon. This is my wife, Elisabeth." He takes the front seat, putting the women all in the back seat together; Elizabeth holds Xaylia on her lap.

Dara says (to Elizabeth), "So, I hear you guys have a farm."

(From GM) Michael adds, "We will be staying with some friends in the city. I can direct you to the right area of town."

Pete says, "Huh, cool. Sunday would probably be a good day for that, I think."

Xaylia stays very quiet and nudges her knapsack under the seat with her toes

Nathan asks, "Er -- we were thinking you might want to come by to visit us first. Er, weren't we?"

Dara says, "Yes, if you'd like to see where Xaylia and Clara are staying now."

(From GM) Michael says, "Xaylia will be returning home with us. But-- yes. Do let us see where Clara is staying now.

(From GM) Elizabeth reaches up to touch something tucked under her blouse.

Dara uses her leet Noble powers to deduce what the something is.

[Crows-Nest] Dara says, "The Aspect 2 thing."

Nathan says, "Er, she -- we can talk about it later."

Nathan heads back for the chancel.

[nobilis] Thalia says, "in case you guys were thinking, it may be easier on the parents if you guys come to the rural one"

GM says, "It's a pendant of some sort, is all you can make out."

[nobilis] Thalia says, "but up to you"

[nobilis] Dara asks, "I forget--can I mentally talk to Xaylia?"

[nobilis] GM says, "Yes"

Dara . o O (to Xaylia) ( Hey, can you ask Clara if her current place is acceptable, or if she'd like something else real quick? )

GM says, "The parents neither initiate nor respond to any conversational attempts on the way to the chancel."

Nathan . o O ( they're the quiet type, I guess )

Xaylia checks with Clara via the wonders of anchor-powers

GM says, "Clara is living in your big penthouse full of toys, I vaguely seem to recall. She is terrified and was hoping the 'show them' would be a bit more generic than the actual dweeling place. She really doesn't want them in her home."

Xaylia relays this to Dara

GM says, "She believes they could do bad things."

Dara . o O (to Xaylia) ( OK, how about a nice little cottage with a manicured lawn and a picket fence? )

GM says, "Clara believes the proper place for her is some dingy tenament. The inside of Clara's head is probably pretty disturbing to Xaylia, since a lot of years of emotional abuse are coming to the front."

Xaylia. o O (to Dara) ( That'd be fine. Make the inside, um, neat but not cluttered )

Xaylia considers, and relays a slightly less dingy version of Clara's ideas to Dara instead

Dara considers, and prepares a slightly nicer version of Xaylia's ideas in her head, ready to @create when they cross the border into their chancel.

GM says (to Thalia), "Ri says, "This tree doesn't grow on Earth, you know. I've looked in the wizards' books.""

(From GM) Ren says to Pete, "Right, I'll let the boys in black know."

Thalia asks (of Ri), "wait, what?"

Dara says (to Nathan), "I don't think you've been to Clara's before--take a left on 23rd and then go down Wilmington five blocks."

Thalia closes her books and puts it back in her knapsack

Nathan says, "---right."

Thalia asks, "which books? where does it grow?"

Nathan turns the wheel gently and drives into the chancel.

Dara closes her eyes and concentrates, creating what she had envisioned. Before it's in view, of course.

Dara furnishes it with stuff like the things we were buying today.

(From GM) Ri shrugs. "I don't remember anymore. The place with the seas."

GM says, "I think a better version of a better version of Clara's idea is a small, neat first floor condo."

[nobilis] Dara grins.

Xaylia. o O (to Dara) ( Could you pick up my knapsack when we get out of the car? I don't want my mother to pick it up instead. )

Dara . o O (to Xaylia) ( Sure thing. We're with you, don't forget. They can't make you go home. 'Treat no-one as your Lord', remember. )

Nathan asks (of Dara), "let's see, how much longer?"

Dara exclaims, "There it is!"

Dara points out the condo.

Nathan says, "ah, good"

GM says, "The area of town is a bit worse than Dara intended, though."

GM says, "And it's smelly."

Nathan pulls in and parks the car, then gets out and looks around.

Thalia mentally scans trying to see if any of her chancel-mates are around

GM says, "When Nathan stops and people get out, the smell is a bit stronger."

Dara sniffs, trying to sense if something is wrong.

GM says (to Thalia), "Alas, you're the only one around."

Thalia says, "sigh. i wish i had paid attention, i have no idea where the place with the seas are"

Xaylia wrinkles her nose slightly when she gets a sniff, but manages to school her expression into a bland face before her mother notices

Thalia flips through her books, looking for a geography book

Dara grabs Xalia's backpack as she gets out.

GM says, "Clara attempts to go and fumble with the front door. It opens. It's dark inside. There's something dead inside."

GM says, "Elizabeth doesn't let go of Xaylia's hand."

[nobilis] Pete comes back, blinks. o O ( 'Treat *no-one*...'? )

Xaylia attempts to wrench her wrist away from her mother

[nobilis] Dara says, "I didn't want to call her parents 'beasts' ;-)"

GM says, "Elizabeth's grip simply tightens, and she gives her child an angry stare and hisses, "Behave. Is this where you've been staying?""

[nobilis] GM says, "You have a restriction, Honest, Xaylia."

Xaylia says (to Mother), "...no, it is not"

[nobilis] GM says, "But hey, now you get an MP to put somewhere. :-)"

[nobilis] Xaylia says, "already aware of that"

Dara goes in past Clara, and transforms her skin into a dead-thing-absorbing substance.

[nobilis] Nathan says, "ha ha ha"

Dara . o O ( crap )

Dara quickly cleans up.

[nobilis] Nathan says, "you can just destroy the dead thing with a realm miracle, you realize"

[nobilis] Nathan asks, "er, can't you?"

GM says, "It's dark in there. But you stumble over a dead cat. It's starved to death."

[nobilis] Dara asks, "That's level 5, no?"

[nobilis] Dara says, "I forget."

GM says, "Elizabeth puts her other hand on X's shoulder and shakes her a little. "Where have you been staying then?""

[nobilis] Nathan says, "yeah, I thought you had a 5 realm"

[nobilis] Dara says, "Oh, wait, so I do ;-)"

[nobilis] Nathan says, "ha"

Dara *zap*

Xaylia says, "I have been staying somewhere else"

GM says, "Michael follows Dara into the dark place, striking a match to peer around. The window shades are all taped shut. He yanks at one."

Xaylia says, "an apartment in another part of town"

Dara says firmly, "This place is Clara's."

GM says, "The dead thing disappears. So does all the furniture. So does anything that might qualify as dead. The wood in the walls starts to crumble."

[nobilis] Thalia says, "uh oh"

[nobilis] Dara asks, "Er, is this my powers going wonky, or am I just clumsy?"

[nobilis] Xaylia says, "whoops"

[nobilis] GM says, "Your powers seem to be going wonky."

Xaylia tries to back out of the room as the walls shake

Nathan hastily grabs Xaylia's parents and hustles them out

Nathan says, "whoah, well, nice day outside -- let's just step outside for a minute"

Dara peers at Michael. "What *are* you?"

GM says, "Michael says, "I know what you think you've been doing, Xaylia. We will take you home with us and cleanse you, though. God will forgive you, with suitable punishment." He gestures back at the house. "The penalty for lies." He glances at Clara. "There will never be enough punishment for you. We trusted you with our daughter and you brought her to this evil place.""

Dara folds her arms. "You will do no such thing. Xaylia is a part of our family now, and while she will always be a part of yours, too, she stays with us."

[nobilis] Thalia says, "clearly i should have shapeshifted as a mosquito and then bitten the mom and dad instead of staying behind"

Dara . o O (to others) ( Hey, my powers are going wonky--I think we might need some support here )

GM says, "Ri glances across the park. "Something's odd about the energy flow over there.""

[nobilis] GM says, "Look, a cue for you to come back."

Xaylia bites her lip

Thalia shifts back to normal as she asks, "can you tell anything about it?"

[nobilis] GM says, "The message from Dara comes through sounding strangely garbled. Comprehnsible, but warped."

Thalia says, "she also starts running, trying to to sense where the others are"

(From GM) Ri shakes her head. "The little computer boy says his wires are messed up by some distortion."

GM crosses his arms back. "Xaylia will always be ours. She is an obedient girl."

Xaylia keeps tugging at her hand

[nobilis] Dara says, "I try a miracle of preservation to stabilize myself, then to stabilize the chancel."

Nathan winces, realizing something is going on but not quite sure what.

(From GM) Elizabeth touches her pendant again, and then scoops Xaylia up.

Thalia runs, and by virtue of luck and timing, hears them talking before she comes onto them

Dara darts forward and tries to snatch the pendant from Elizabeth.

Xaylia struggles wildly

Thalia quickly shapeshifts back to a high school student, and runs around the corner

[nobilis] GM asks, "You sure about the preservation miracle?"

Thalia also pretends to not notice where she was going and crashes in to Elisabeth

Nathan exclaims, "whoah, hey, put her down!"

[nobilis] Dara asks, "Um?"

[nobilis] Nathan says (to Thalia), "hee hee"

[nobilis] Nathan says (to Dara), "since your powers are going wonky and all"

Nathan exclaims, "I would hate for things to get unpleasant!"

GM says, "Michael bellows, "Xaylia! Stop fighting your mother!" Elizabeth is run over by a horse in girl's clothing and the entire mess of X, Dara, Thalia and Elizabeth goes sprawling."

[nobilis] Dara says, "Nah, I'll just use Aspect 2 to try the snatch."

[nobilis] Thalia laughs at the shapeshift gone awry

Xaylia shakes herself loose and struggles away from her mother

Thalia rolls over and accidentally pins Elizabeth down

Thalia looks around innocently

Nathan sighs.

GM says, "The pendant is tangled in Dara's fist, and tightened around Elizabeth's neck. It's choking her."

[Crows-Nest] Xaylia says, "I've always thought of Nobilis as such a dignified game"

Nathan says, "it was supposed to be a nice social visit"

[Crows-Nest] Dara chuckles.

[Crows-Nest] Thalia says, "hee hee"

Nathan asks, "Dara, what are you doing?"

Xaylia says (to Dara), "please, be careful"

GM says, "Michael darts in and slides his hand under the pendant, trying to help his wife."

Nathan bends over to assist them and tries to aspect-2 snap the chain.

[nobilis] Nathan says, "(in one of those moves to be regretted later)"

[Crows-Nest] Dara asks, "Is the pendant itself in my fist?"

[nobilis] Dara says, "Also, here."

[nobilis] Thalia says, "i guess i will stay seated on top until the pendant is loosened"

Xaylia stands panting, watching the brawling heap, visibly torn about which side to help

GM says, "*Snap*! Nathan goes flying backwards. Dara ends up with a pendant in her hand. Elizabeth has a horrible red line on her neck. Michael pulls her to her feet and wraps his arms around her."

[nobilis] Thalia says, "i got displaced i guess"

Nathan says, "oh, goodness, I'm terribly sorry about this, sir"

Nathan studies the chain in mystic vision casually before handing it back to Elizabeth

GM says, "Elizabeth holds out a hand to Xaylia and croaks, "You won't come with us? Have you already fallen so far?""

Thalia casually gets to her feet and places her self by Xaylia

Xaylia says (to Mother), "I haven't fallen. This isn't falling. I am *helping* people."

GM says, "The pendant itself is one of thsoe glyphs that shows up when Ren makes a physical manifestation."

[nobilis] Dara says, "I don't remember that."

[nobilis] Thalia asks (of GM), "how did the shapeshift go?? did it fail totally and i am in normal form or am i full horse?"

[nobilis] Dara asks, "So that means its an AI itself?"

[nobilis] GM says, "You're actually a girl, but you have the weight of a horse. Sort of like the illusion of a girl but body of a horse."

Xaylia says (to Father), "you were *wrong*, all those times."

[nobilis] GM says, "I'm not going to answer that, Dara :-)"

[nobilis] Dara says, "Heh."

Thalia debates physically placing herself in between Xaylia and her parents, in case they try to grab her again

[nobilis] Dara says, "Can you remind me of Ren-as-physical form glyph? I'm not remembering."

Xaylia seems to be in physical pain as she faces her parents

GM says, "You are a very bad girl, Xaylia," says Michael. "But you are also very young. These people have misled you. They are corrupting you. This is not the true path. Look, your mother is crying. She's already lost her sister to these monsters, now will she lose you?""

Dara tries a few innocuous creations to see if she's back to normal. A single blade of grass, say.

[nobilis] GM says, "Strange glyphs! They show up on the phones, or in midair."

GM says, "Dead grass."

[nobilis] Nathan says, "oh yeah, on the phone"

Xaylia says, "Aunt Clara is *not* lost."

Xaylia says, "and neither am I"

[nobilis] Dara asks, "And this is a pendant with a glyph on it? Or in the shape of one?"

GM says, "Clara is just staring down at the ground."

Xaylia says, "but you may not be able to find us"

[nobilis] GM says, "The shape of a glyph."

GM says, "The dead grass begins to curve into the shape of the glyph."

Xaylia says (to Mother), "you aren't crying because you've lost me. You're crying because of what everyone will say if they find out."

GM says, "Elizabeth says quietly, "God is with us, Michael.""

Dara flips open her cell phone. "Ren, I need you to catch this and store for later analysis."

Dara flings the glyph as far away as her aspect-2 strength will allow, towards the park.

Xaylia turns her back on her parents, slowly and deliberately. "You do not own me any longer."

[nobilis] Nathan asks, "the glyph? or the pendant?"

[nobilis] Alex says (to Nathan), "Awwwk! Word on the street is that GLYPH is a bot."

Dara tries another creation.

[nobilis] Dara says, "It's a pendant in the shape of a glyph."

GM says, "Ren's glyphs on the phone are distorted, as if there's some kind of interference. There's no immediate response."

Dara also tries the phone again.

GM says, "Michael stares at Xaylia's back while his wife weeps."

Xaylia walks over to Clara, and takes her hand.

[nobilis] GM asks, "What's this creation this time?"

[nobilis] Dara says, "Another blade of grass."

GM says, "Clara squeezes Xaylia's hand."

Xaylia says (to parents), "Now, please, leave my home. You are not welcome here."

[nobilis] GM says, "Rotting green."

[nobilis] Dara asks, "Better, but not perfect? Or same amount off?"

Nathan hurries after the flung pendant, speeding up to faster-than-normal speeds once he's out of site

[nobilis] GM says, "Same amount of corruption."

GM says, "Michael takes a deep breath, and blows it out. Then he bows his head, pressing it against Elizabeth's, and mutters a prayer."

Dara listens to the prayer.

Xaylia asks (of Father), "who do you think hears your prayers, father?"

GM says, "Please lord, give me guidance in how we may best serve you in these matters. Your will be done."

Dara tries to sense the energy flow in the area; where it's coming from, and what's distorting it.

GM says, "God does, daughter. And he answers them."

GM asks, "Dara: you're doing a divination?"

[nobilis] Dara says, "Sure."

[nobilis] (from Nathan) GM says "HA HA HA"

Nathan looks around for the pendant when he gets to where he judges it should have landed.

GM says, "Elizabeth and Michael aren't here on your divination miracle. Other than that, everything seems perfectly normal."

GM says, "You find it, Nathan."

Xaylia says (to father), "I don't think your god can force me to come home with you."

Nathan says, "right, I don't think we want this hanging around loose"

Xaylia says, "and you can't hurt me any more"

Xaylia says, "nobody can hurt me any more, or make me hungry so I do what I'm told"

GM says, "Michael says calmly, "Perhaps God will grant us another child, as Seth replaced Abel, stolen from them by Cain.""

Xaylia says, "perhaps he will."

GM says, "Suddenly Michael's eyes widen, and almost seem to glow, but it's not a literal thing. "Ah. I see.""

Dara . o O ( 'make me hungry'? oy. )

GM says, "I understand. Thank you, Lord.""

(From GM) Michael says, "Clara, you are cursed for this." With that, he turns his wife, still weeping, and begins to walk away, back the direction the car arrived from.

[nobilis] Nathan says, "(I'm not there to mention this, but you realize somebody should probably drive them back)"

Xaylia clasps Clara's hand, and sits down on the floor

Dara exclaims (at phone), "Ren, are you getting this? I want recordings on everything we have sensors for. Everything!"

(From GM) Ren says, "Kind of busy, boss."

Dara says (to Ren), "Hang tight, then."

Xaylia murmurs to Clara that she won't let anything hurt her.

Dara escorts the couple out of the chancel.

Xaylia then bursts into tears.

[Crows-Nest] Xaylia says, "(ow my bonds hurt dammit)"

[Crows-Nest] GM exclaims, "Yay! They escaped! Ohohohoho!"

[Crows-Nest] GM says, "Ahem"

[Crows-Nest] Dara says, "Snrk."

[Crows-Nest] Dara says, "Like we're going to kill X's parents in front of her."

GM says, "An hour or so after the couple has left the chancel, the magic settles down. Ren's glyphs return to normal. Ri stops her lonely watch by the tree."

Nathan comes back with the pendant shortly after they leave

Dara says, "That could have gone better."

Nathan says, "yeah, well -- hrm"

Thalia asks, "are we sure they left?"

Nathan says, "I'm not sure anything involving them could have gone better"

Nathan asks (of Thalia), "you've been studying at that magic university, right? do you recognize this glyph?"

GM says, "Clara hugs Xaylia a lot."

Xaylia tears off the cardigan and stopms on it a bit.

Xaylia says, "er, stomps"

[Crows-Nest] Xaylia says, "yeah, I don't think I'd be too happy if you did that"

[nobilis] GM says, "Not particularly familiar, Thalia."

[Crows-Nest] GM says, "ohohoho the joys of an open chancel + corrupted mystery cult."

[Crows-Nest] Xaylia says, "yeah"

Dara asks (of Clara), "OK, what can you tell us about them *now*?"

Dara asks, "And what about this religion of theirs?"

Thalia looks carefully at the glyph while digging out one of her books

[Crows-Nest] Xaylia says, "despite my earlier 'we have a cult?', I should point out that I have been looking forward to this, uh, revelation for some time"

Thalia says (to dara), "sorry. I am not seeing anything that matches"

[Crows-Nest] Nathan says, "oh, yeah, that"

[Crows-Nest] Dara says, "Heh."

(From GM) Clara remains sitting on the floor. "I... I can't say. I wish I could. Some people, back, before, they would laugh at religion. But it matters. God exists. There's a spiritual war." She shrugs helplessly. "I tried to stay out of it. I didn't like it. I couldn't get all the way away."

[Crows-Nest] Nathan asks, "man, whose bright idea was that?"

Xaylia says (to Clara), "and now I dragged you back in"

Xaylia says, "I'm so sorry"

Dara asks, "What people?"

[Crows-Nest] Xaylia says, "I can't imagine"

[Crows-Nest] Xaylia says, "I blame the GM"

GM says, "Scholars. Scientists. Most people who believe in God, they think he's some far away figure in the sky. But he's not." She shrugs again and says to Xaylia, "You should be careful. What they have is real.""

[Crows-Nest] Nathan says, "hee hee"

[Crows-Nest] GM exclaims, "Sniff!"

[Crows-Nest] GM says, "This is all i have planned for today, btw."

Xaylia says (to Clara), "but what we have is real too"

GM says, "Ren suggests, once his processes settle down, "The glyphs are Jeheila's internal language.""

(From GM) Clara nods and gives Xaylia a little smile. "I hope it's stronger."

Nathan says, "gah"

Nathan asks, "where did they get ahold of that?"

Dara . o O (to Jeheila) ( Hello? We met some people who had a pendant that means something in your internal language. Is there something we should know about this? )

[nobilis] Dara says, "That can be a prayer."

Xaylia asks (of Nathan), "from God?"

Nathan says, "I'm not sure where God fits into the grand scheme of things anymore"

Dara says, "My suspicion is that their God is Jeheila. Or was, at some point."

[nobilis] GM says, "No response from Jeheila immediately but poke me about it again next time we play."

[nobilis] Dara nods.

Nathan says, "I thought Jeheila wasn't around until -- ok, I don't really knoiw"

Thalia goes home.

Nathan says, "I thought Jeheila said she had retired here from a long time away, or something"

Dara shrugs. "I have no idea."

Dara says, "But I get the sense she's been around a long time."

Dara says, "Long enough to have done stuff in the past that may be coming back to bite us now."

Nathan says, "yeah"

Xaylia asks, "the nice lady is God?"

Xaylia says, "I wish I had known that when Father was here"

Dara says (to Xaylia), "Maybe."

Nathan shrugs

Dara says (to Xaylia), "Don't worry, we'll figure it out."

Nathan says, "I don't know how Yasmina fits into this either"
