Governor asks, "arr?"

[colonial] PerrySimm says, "Log on, and all that."

[colonial] Governor says, "arr"

[colonial] Sargent asks, "Are we on for tonight?"

[colonial] Governor says, "gang's all here"

[colonial] Brianna says, "been catching up on the previous transcripts."

Alonso has connected.

[colonial] Governor says, "well, all except Roger who apparently doesn't mind missing out."

Governor starts the theme music.

Eolo has connected.

[colonial] Tymen exclaims, "And playing the part of the plank, it's Eolo!"

[colonial] Eolo has joined the channel.

[colonial] Eolo says, "arr"

Governor says, "When last we left our intrepid heroes, they were sailing into the tropics. The weather gets steadily warmer and more humid. Those of you in the habit of wearing lace are beginning to have trouble keeping it up. (The lace, I mean)."

Tymen considers rolling up his trouser cuffs.

Governor says, "Puerto San Angelo comes within sight, and the normally reserved ladies de Fernandez let up a rousing cheer. Most of them weren't too fond of shipboard life."

Governor says, "San Angelo is located on a sort of 'corner' of land ... You first see the shoreline to the south, stretching east and west. Turning east for a few hours brings you to San Angelo, and then the shoreline turns southwards."

Governor says, "It's fairly large, as far as colonial ports go these days. There's a cathedral, and more than one street. The governor's mansion is perched on a slight rise above town, and there's what appears to be an unusually large ship being built at the shipwright's."

Tymen says, "Ah, a sign of strong trade with the mainland."

Governor says, "<end description>"

Alonso looks at the buildings. "Aha, the cathedral. Good."

Tymen packs up his carpet bag and disembarks.

Brianna assists the Ladies with their few bags.

(From Governor) Dona Antonia says, "Thank you ever so much."

Alonso says, "Though I enjoyed the journey, it will be good to be on land again"

Brianna asks (of Dona), "Whom is expected to meet you, madame?"

[colonial] Brianna says, "who"

Tymen says, "Indeed. It will be nice to have a bed that remains flat and level throughout the night."

(From Governor) Dona Antonia looks at Alonso as if he were crazy, then pauses, shrugs and mumbles something about "perhaps he's just being polite".

(From Governor) Dona Antonia: "The governor, of course. Well, I suppose he can't be expected to wait here day in and day out, given the uncertainties of travel.

(From Governor) Dona Antonia: "Send a messenger to him and tell him we've arrived."

Brianna says (to Dona), "I can escort you, if you wish."

(From Governor) Marcel also offers escort

Alonso says, "I must visit the cathedral and speak to my superiors there. With luck I will see you again."

(From Governor) Antonia: "Yes, thank you.

Alonso proffers a bow and walks down the gangplank, staff ticking against its wood.

(From Governor) Enzio: Eh, cap'n ... (looks confused ... first time sailing on a ship with no clear captain) ... who'll deal with the port authority?

Brianna summons a sailor to carry the bags and starts walking the Dona down the plank.

Tymen looks around for port workers, since he's still here.

Brianna says (to Enzio), "I'll return after escorting the Dona. I'm sure the governor will have something to say about the situation."

Governor says (to Tymen), "Port workers mainly moving cargo on and off ships."

(From Governor) Enzio: Yes, uh, cap'n.

Tymen shrugs, having been superceded, and wanders off on his own then.

Alonso says to Tymen (as he passes), "If you need anything, you know where to reach me."

[colonial] Brianna says, "lag"

Tymen says (to Alonso), "Right-o."

Brianna says (to Enzio), "Or follow him (gestures at Tymen)."

Tymen looks for a decent place to rent a room.

(From Governor) Rosita had been among the first to scamper off the ship. She's on the port chatting with a tall, fair-haired fellow.

[colonial] Tymen asks, "What do most of the colonists around here seem to be speaking?"

Governor says (to Tymen), "There's the Braw Piper and the Cantina ..."

[colonial] Governor says, "Castillian"

[colonial] Tymen says, "Handy."

Tymen ducks into the Piper, orders a drink at the bar, and takes a look around. A quality establishment, clean, good service?

[colonial] Alonso says, "(I'm off to the cathedral; let me know when I get there, unless Interesting Things happen on my way to it)"

Governor says (to Brianna), "The various ladies walk with you up towards the governor's mansion. Dona Antonio has to speak sharply to Rosita to get her to follow, though, since she seemed a bit engrossed in conversation."

[Crows-Nest] (from Tymen) Governor says (to Alonso), "Hush, you're unconscious. I'll explain later."

[Crows-Nest] Alonso laughs.

Governor says (to Tymen), "Seems so, yes. The innkeeper is ruddy Highlander with red whiskers. Also, Gina Martinez seems to have wandered in behind you."

Brianna keeps an eye on the crowd and her hand on her sword as they walk.

Tymen nods to Gina. "And one for the lady, as well."

(From Governor) Gina: Thank you, but I'm actually looking for a place to stay and some work while I'm here.

Governor says (to Brianna), "the crowd seems respectful enough."

Tymen says, "Ah, mm."

Governor says (to Alonso), "the air in the cathedral is cool and quiet. Not as ornate as what you're used to, though."

[colonial] Governor says, "lag...."

[colonial] Governor says, "lag gone"

[colonial] Governor says, "...or not"

Alonso pauses to bow in prayer for a moment before going on.

Governor says (to Tymen), "the innkeeper sets your drink in front of you and goes to speak to Gina."

Governor says (to Brianna), "You get to the mansion. Things are already moving to make the ladies welcome."

Brianna says (to Dona), "Unless you have further need of my services, I shall depart. You seem to be in capable hands now."

(From Governor) Dona Antonia: I believe I should be able to handle things from here. Thank you once again for your services.

(From Governor) Dona Antonia: The governor may wish to speak to you and your friends later, I'm guessing.

Brianna bows respectfully. "I will be happy to speak with him at his convenience. I expect the ship will be in port for few days. Until then, Dona." Brianna heads back to the ship.

[colonial] Tymen says, "(Grr, this is not a good time for my connection to be blipping.)"

Tymen waits for the bartender to finish talking to Gina, then beckons him over again.

Governor says (to Alonso), "the Bishop of San Angelo is one Joaquin Azurro. You don't know much about him except that he was posted here about three or four years ago."

(From Governor) Innkeeper: (to Tymen) Aye?

Tymen asks (of Innkeeper), "I'm interested in a room, myself. What do you have available?"

(From Governor) Innkeeper: Aye, there's room. Not much difference 'tween rooms, so you can take your pick.

[colonial] Alonso says, "I need to idle for a moment to eat"

[colonial] Governor says, "okay..."

Tymen nods, "What's the rate?"

Governor says (to Brianna), "When you get back to dock, you find that most of the sailors have either wandered off to have a good time, or are idling about."

(From Governor) Innkeeper: Guilder a day too rich for you?

Tymen raises an eyebrow. "A bit more than I expected, I admit. What about per week?"

(From Governor) innkeeper: five guilders.

Tymen asks, "Mmm. I'll have to see the room, I think. Right upstairs?"

(From Governor) innkeeper: Aye. Oh, breakfast's in the package by the way.

(From Governor) innkeeper: An' the early-morning wake-up call.

Tymen asks, "Hot breakfast, or cold?"

(From Governor) innkeeper: Hot, of course. What d'ye take me for?

(From Governor) innkeeper grins. "course, if ye prefer cold, that can be arranged."

Alonso finishes his praying, making sure he was thankful for not being killed or thrown overboard, and heads for the back of the cathedral.

Tymen chuckles. "I like to be sure of my bargains before I agree to them. That's fair, I imagine."

[colonial] Tymen asks, "I'm guessing it's reasonable to expect luxury things like a roof over ones head will be a bit on the expensive side, out here in the uncivilized islands?"

Governor says (to Brianna), "Anyway, the port authority is in the corner of the marketplace adjacent to the docks. It's flying the Castillian flag."

Tymen gives the bartender five guilders for this week, in advance.

Brianna heads back to Clemm's quarters, to find more information about how he made his money (besides offing unsuspecting passengers).

[colonial] Governor says, "I have a slightly different scale ... I don't like thinking in fractions of a guilder."

[colonial] Tymen asks, "Well, in other words, I'm not getting *totally* gypped here, right?"

[colonial] Tymen says, "If I am, I'll roll haggling."

Governor says (to Alonso), "How wonderful that all religious buildings are built on a similar plan ... sanctuary with altar, ambulatory around it, door into sacristy and (presumably) clergymen's offices."

Alonso gets his bearings and confidently strides into what turns out to be a closet.

[colonial] Governor says, "you're not being gypped. Not really."

[colonial] Governor says, "hee"

Tymen finishes his drink and head upstairs to pick a room and put his things away.

Governor says (to Alonso), "a broom falls on you."

[colonial] Tymen says (to Alonso), "Yay"

Alonso exclaims, "ow!"

Alonso backs out of the closet as gracefully as he can.

[colonial] Eolo says, "hee hee"

Tymen looks for a room that's easy to sneak in and out of, in the case that anyone unsuitable comes knocking.

[colonial] Brianna says, "you could take the straw off, and use the handle to replace your walking stick."

Governor says (to Brianna), "Clemm mostly made his money lying and cheating. He hasn't paid taxes to any of the nations he calls home, and he doesn't do as much sailing as he's supposed to have done."

[colonial] Tymen says, "(Preferably with a lock on both door and window)"

Alonso murmurs, "*Left* at the apse, I think."

Brianna tosses the papers she was rifling to the floor in disgust, and salts the air for a moment.

Governor says (to Brianna), "There's a note about spices and silk being good things to pick up in the Southern Mirror, but apparently he never got around to actually coming here."

Brianna finishes cursing, and heads out of Clemm's office.

Governor says (to Tymen), "You find such a room. It overlooks the back courtyard where the inn's laundry is done."

Tymen says, "Ah, excellent."

Alonso gets his bearings, this time more competently, and opens the door to the offices.

Governor says (to Alonso), "A woman sitting in one of the front pews looks up as you come out of the closet."

Tymen pokes around the room to see if previous occupant left anything behind. Say, if he or she happened to leave town quickly...

(From Governor) Woman: (to Alonso) "Are you looking for someone?"

Brianna decides to consult her fellow heroic travelers before making any kind of financial decision, and heads out to find them.

Governor says (to Tymen), "Nothing but dust. Actually, not even. It's clean."

Tymen says, "Nice place."

Alonso says, "Hello! Yes, I wanted to speak to the head of this cathedral."

Tymen puts his things away (the things that he's not going to be carrying around on his person, tht is), locks up, and heads downstairs.

[colonial] Alonso asks, "Do I know who's in charge here, by the way?"

Governor says (to Brianna), "Well. There's the Braw Piper, and there's the Cantina ... two most obvious drinking-type establishments. There's the cathedral, and the marketplace. And the port authority building."

(From Governor) Woman: Oh, Bishop Azurro? His office is through that door and up the stairs on the right.

Tymen asks (of Bartender), "Excellent. I'm quite pleased. Would you happen to know, is there anything like a library around? Or a museum, or that sort of thing?"

[colonial] Alonso says, "Phew, good thing I didn't say 'Monsignor' like I started to"

Tymen says, "I'm a bit curious about the old native legends and all that."

Alonso says, "Wonderful! I am Alonso Reyes, by the way."

(From Governor) Innkeeper: round here? ye must be daft ... well, if it's learning ye're after, you could check the cathedral.

(From Governor) Woman: Luisa di Marchesi. I run the Cantina up the street.

Tymen grins, "Oh, I'm not looking for history books. Just a few good stories."

[colonial] Tymen says, "(AFK a moment)"

Brianna walks briskly to the drinking establishments.

(From Governor) innkeeper: Ah, then ye've come to the right place. Names, MacBride, by the way. Angus MacBride.

Alonso says, "A pleasure to meet you. I will be sure to stop by later."

Alonso says, "Though you might not be able to tell, I'm new in town."

(From Governor) Luisa: I look forward to the pleasure, padre. I'm sure I could think of something to make you feel welcome.

Tymen offers a hand to shake. "Tymen Garetson -- a pleasure."

(From Governor) Luisa: If you'll excuse me, though, I must go back and make sure nothing's been broken in my absence.

Alonso says, "Certainly! A good day to you."

(From Governor) Angus shakes Tymen's hand. He's one of those bone-crusher grip people.

Alonso bows to Luisa and then follows her directions. To the letter.

(From Governor) Luisa winks and strolls on out.

Alonso says, "A very enthusiastic woman. I look forward to talking to her more."

Tymen maintains his grin and/or rictus, as the case may be. "Ahrn...other pint, then, and a tale or two."

Governor says (to Brianna), "You find Tymen at the bar in the Braw Piper ... probably a good thing, since the music from the Cantina is a little on the rowdy side."

Brianna finds the Cantina empty of Tymen, so tries the Piper next.

[colonial] Brianna exclaims, "timing!"

Tymen says (to Brianna), "Ah, pull up a seat. Angus was just about to tell a story."

Tymen says, "Angus, this is Brianna. Brianna, Angus MacBride."

Brianna says, "Greetings, Angus."

Brianna offers her hand to Angus.

(From Governor) Angus shakes Brianna's hand.

Alonso reaches a closed door and knocks gently.

Governor says (to Alonso), "A rich baritone voice calls for you to enter."

Alonso does so.

[colonial] Alonso says, ">L"

Governor says (to Alonso), "Bishop Azurro looks ... ecclesiastical. The word suits him. The office itself is fairly large, but very sparsely furnished. Huge windows overlook the sea."

(From Governor) Angus: (to Brianna) Arr. Ever consider caber-tossing, lass?

[colonial] Eolo says, "hee hee"

Alonso says, "Bishop Azurro, a pleasure to meet you. I am Alonso Reyes, recently from Castille."

Brianna asks (of Angus), "Caber? Who is he?"

(From Governor) Bishop: "Yes, a pleasure. We are always in need of shepherds for our flocks around here. And I do believe Father Domingo has mentioned something of you to me."

Brianna says (to Tymen), "We need to discuss plans for the ship, at some point. With Alonso, of course."

Tymen says (to Brianna), "I imagine he'll be a while, most likely. I've never known priests to do anything quickly."

(From Governor) Bishop: So let's get down to business, shall we ...

Alonso says, "Of course."

Alonso finds a seat and sits.

Brianna signals the barkeep for a drink, and prepares to sit a spell.

(From Governor) Bishop: I would have said that El Pedro would be most in need of a good priest ... sadly, a recent plague has put that island off-limits.

Alonso says, "Mmm, yes, I'd rather be somewhere from which I can eventually return."

(From Governor) Bishop: Lacathe is in the hands of Mother Marie-Celestine ... a capable woman, and I trust her.

(From Governor) Bishop: And your friend the other Alonso has his hands full with Maristella.

(From Governor) Bishop Well, he could use an assistant.

Alonso asks, "Will he be in town in the next few days? I -- ur?"

(From Governor) Bishop: (sweeping on) otherwise, there's always missionary work in Rajkapur -- I'll be sailing for there tomorrow morning. And Luzon, which is as closely Theus-forsaken as you can get.

[colonial] Tymen says, "(Grr... connection is blinking on and off, so I might not being able to kibbitz much during Angus' story...)"

[colonial] Tymen says, "(He is telling one, right? :) )"

[colonial] Governor asks, "I thought you were discussing things with Brianna?"

[colonial] Tymen says, "I figured we'd wait until all three of us were together to discuss the ship."

Alonso asks, "Tell me about Luzon. Dangerous, is it?"

[colonial] Brianna says, "no - I'd rather discuss financial stuff in private, and with all the members of our party."

(From Governor) Angus: Well, stories ... let's see...

[colonial] Governor says, "okay"

(From Governor) Bishop: more for our own men than anything else. Mining breeds some rather rough characters.

Alonso says, "And yet, they are as in need of Theus as any."

(From Governor) Bishop: True. But perhaps you'd best get acquainted with the surrounding area first.

Alonso says, "Oh, I will be the soul of caution."

(From Governor) Bishop: Governor Chavez of Luzon will be in Rajkapur tomorrow -- there is dinner party there being held by Colonel Abernethie of the Avalon, uh, effort.

(From Governor) Bishop: I too have an invitation. If you wish to speak to him, this would be the time.

Alonso says, "I do have some companions I travelled with -- our ship turned out to be captained by a scoundrel of a man, and we had to take command of the ship. I should see what their plans are as well"

(From Governor) Angus: I suppose you've heard of the dread pirate El Buitre, who haunts the seas just south of here.

Alonso says, "but I am very interested in meeting Governor Chavez."

Alonso asks, "At what time will you be setting sail?"

Tymen says leadingly, "Not yet, I haven't..."

(From Governor) Bishop: At first light. It's about two day's sailing, and this should get me there on the morning of the day at the earliest, mid-afternoon at the latest.

(From Governor) Angus: WELL....

(From Governor) Angus: They say he looted a Montaigne ship ... sailing in with a passenger-hold full of brides for them Montaigne planters in Lacathe.

[colonial] Eolo says, "ha"

Alonso says, "If you would be so kind as to give me the name of your ship, I will confer with my friend and, barring complications, meet you there just before first light."

Alonso asks, "Oh, and what Avalon effort were you referring to?"

Brianna says (to Angus), "And as all know, the Montaigne warriors are weak-blooded, more interested in fripperies."

(From Governor) Angus: When he found out what the cargo was, he had them all brought onto his ship, and plugged the Montaigne ship full of holes ... just so it would sink if it didn't try to make it back to here.

(From Governor) Angus: the brides he brought here, ahead of their old ship, and just left them in port. Their old ship limped in a day later, and Amadeo the shipwright had a hell of a time patching it up.

Brianna says, "Except the Emporer's elite, of course."

[colonial] Tymen says, "Good thing Alonso's not here. This is the sort of story one might be less likely to tell in front of a man of the cloth."

(From Governor) Angus: (winking to Brianna) Aye. An' they're especially lily-livered around these parts, since most o' them are here on the Emperor's promise that planters here ain't eligible for conscription into the war with Castille.

Tymen says, "Brought them in, all unhurt? Rather kind of a pirate."

(From Governor) Bishop: I sail on the Belle Madeleine.

(From Governor) Bishop: As for the Avalon effort (frown) well, it's no secret what they want. They want their own port, same as the Vendel.

(From Governor) Bishop: My impression is that Abernethie hopes to convince the Rajah of Rajkapur to allow Avalon exclusive trading rights.

Alonso says, "That would be unfortunate."

(From Governor) Bishop: (smiling) which will never happen, of course. Abernethie hasn't figured out yet that the Rajah does NOT soil his hands on mercantile matters.

(From Governor) Angus: (to Tymen) Aye ... 'course, half of them decided not to marry the men they were sent here for. One wonders why.

Alonso says, "Well, if we travel together to Rajkapur, doubtlessly you can tell me more."

Brianna asks (of Angus), "So where are all these women now?"

(From Governor) Bishop: Of course. And if you have your own ship, you can easily find out more for yourself.

(From Governor) Bishop: Now ... I must prepare my sermon for next week. I don't think especially well on a sailing ship.

Alonso says, "If I end up going to Maristella, I will be sure to send word."

Alonso stands. "Theus be with you."

Brianna says (to Angus), "If they had come here for marriage, it seems odd that that many of them would change their minds."

(From Governor) Angus: (to Brianna) In Lacathe. It's the convent that handles the mail-order brides, and I think they decided to take themselves to the nunnery.

Tymen asks, "None look back to sea, eh?"

(From Governor) Angus: I can only guess.

(From Governor) Angus: In any case, there's quite a hefty price on El Buitre's head. And the governor wants him alive, to stand trial.

(From Governor) Bishop: And also with you.

Governor says (to Alonso), "the Bishop goes back to his writing...."

Brianna asks (of Angus), "Any idea where he headed?"

Alonso takes his leave and manages to find the way out without too much difficulty.

Tymen says (to Brianna), "Thinking we should make a habit of taking down unlawful sailors? Could be profit in it, I admit..."

Alonso asks, "Now, if I were Tymen and Brianna, where would I be?"

Alonso says, "I'll guess 'a bar' for now."

[colonial] Alonso asks, "What was the name of that bar?"

Brianna says (to Tymen), "And fun, if we don't wind up at the bottom of the oceon."

[colonial] Tymen says, "You don't know if we're in the Braw Piper or the Cantina..."

[colonial] Brianna says, "ocean"

(From Governor) Angus: Hm. No-one knows for sure. My money's on a secret hideout around the Siren Pass ... no-one's ever tried to explore the other end of it yet.

[colonial] Brianna says, "but you should check the cantina first, just for fun. :-()"

Tymen frowns. "The only ocean I want to go to the bottom to is the one where sunken treasures lurk. And even then, I'd like to take a spare lung or three."

[colonial] Alonso asks, "How old did Luisa look?"

[colonial] Alonso asks, "i.e. Senora or Senorita?"

[colonial] Governor says, "Maybe about thirty, but could be younger. Quite good-looking. Colourful, practical clothing of good quality and Vodacce cut."

Alonso says, "Perhaps Senorita Luisa has seen them."

[colonial] Governor says, "signorina"

Alonso heads for the Cantina.

[colonial] Tymen asks, "Wait, who's Luisa?"

[colonial] Alonso says, "I'm translating into Castille as I go"

[colonial] Governor says (to Tymen), "the woman in the church who directed Alonso to the Bishop's office."

[colonial] Tymen says, "Oh, OK."

Brianna asks (of Angus), "And how many days sailing ist that? Why has it not yet been explored?"

Governor says (to Alonso), "There's the sound of Castillian guitars, like a siesta party in full swing. Flamenco dancers are kicking up a storm in the middle of the room."

Alonso says, "My goodness."

Alonso looks around for Luisa.

Governor says (to Alonso), "Luisa stands by the stair watching. Every now and then, a couple will approach her, exchange a few words and head upstairs."

Governor says (to Alonso), "No sign of Brianna and Tymen. Assuming they haven't gone upstairs."

Alonso says (to Luisa), "Hello again. I won't keep you long, as you seem busy."

(From Governor) Luisa: (smiling) it's no bother at all. What can I do for you?

Alonso says, "I'm looking for two acquaintances of mine, one an Eisen woman named Brianna, the other a Vendel named Tymen."

Alonso describes the two to Luisa.

Tymen says (to Angus), "Good story. Good ale, too. I've been thirsty since the casks on our ship ran dry."

(From Governor) Luisa shakes her head. "I have not seen anyone of that description."

Tymen pays Angus, for his drink and Brianna's. And a decent tip, of course.

(From Governor) Angus: Thank ye kindly.

Alonso asks, "Perhaps they are at the, er, Braw Piper, is it?"

Brianna asks (of Tymen), "Any interest in persuing that tale?"

(From Governor) Luisa: Almost certainly. Most people end up either here or there, once they sail in.

Tymen says (to Brianna), "Perhaps... I wouldn't mind getting my hands on some pirate gold, if only it weren't for all the pirates who want to keep it for themselves."

Alonso says, "Then I'll have to check there right away."

Alonso says, "It appears you and I are fated to have very brief conversations."

(From Governor) Luisa: That is unfortunate. But when you have the time ... come on up and see me sometime.

[Crows-Nest] Tymen asks, "The priest has a girlfriend?"

[Crows-Nest] Alonso checks the Player's Guide to find out the church's position on celibacy for priests

Brianna says (to Tymen), "That just makes it more fun."

Alonso dodges around the dancers, tapping his feet in time to the music, and heads outside and to the Piper.

Governor says (to Alonso), "The Piper is somewhat more ... sedate, I guess."

Brianna says (to Alonso), "Greetings!" Brianna waves him over."

(From Governor) Angus: Another friend of yours?

Alonso exclaims, "There you two are!"

Tymen says (to Angus), "Ah -- it's Alonso." Turning, "Alonso, this is Angus.""

Alonso moves to Brianna's and Tymen's table. "Hello, Angus."

Brianna says (to Alonso), "He's been telling us of another sea-faring scoundrel in these parts."

(From Governor) Angus: Hello, and what'll it be?

[Crows-Nest] Tymen says, "Our table is the big long one at the front with all the stools along one side of it, and a mirror behind."

Alonso says, "Wine, if you have some decent vintages."

(From Governor) Angus: Coming right up....

Brianna asks (of Alonso), "And how did your discussion with the local patriarch go?"

Alonso says, "Patriarch? Oh, you mean Bishop Azurro! It went quite well."

Alonso says, "My friend Alonso is working in Maristella, it turns out."

(From Governor) Angus: Och, the one that was given over to Vendel?

[colonial] Tymen tries to remember if we had the many-Alonso conversation already.

Alonso says, "There's a need for a missionary at Luzon, though, and I'm considering going there. The bishop is sailing to Rajkapur tomorrow, and were I to go I'd be able to speak with Governor Chavez of Luzon."

[colonial] Alonso says, "I was assuming there were long enough days at sea that I'd be compelled to talk about him.."

Alonso says (to Angus), "Was it? I'm frightfully ignorant of much of the local area."

(From Governor) Angus: Aye. Funny story, that....

(From Governor) Angus: Maristella was a Castillian trading port, right and proper up to about a year ago.

RogerCarbol arrives, looking for booty.

Governor exclaims (at Roger), "Arr!"

[colonial] Tymen exclaims (at Roger), "Arr!"

[colonial] Tymen says, "We're all hanging out in a bar."

[colonial] RogerCarbol says, "Arr"

[colonial] Reginald asks, "Are we there yet?"

[colonial] Tymen says, "We are. You might still be sleeping something off in your cabin :)"

[colonial] jwalrus has joined the channel.

[colonial] Reginald says (to GM), "Whenever you want to let me walk in, just say so."

Governor says, "(Okay, so where's Reginald?)"

Reginald says, "(I dunno. Where am I?)"

[colonial] Governor says, "Walk in whenever and wherever you want."

[colonial] Tymen says (to Reginald), "Get thirst, and walk into the Braw Piper."

[colonial] Tymen says, "Er, thirsty."

(From Reginald) A man walks into a bar. It turns out to be Reginald Cox.

Reginald says, "I say, hello, chums."

[colonial] Governor says, "The ship is in San Angelo harbour..."

[colonial] Governor asks (of Reginald), "Just woke up?"

Brianna asks (of Reginald), ""Greetings. Feeling better?"

(From Governor) Angus pauses his story.

Reginald says (to Brianna), "Indeed I am. Must have been something I ate."

Tymen says (to Angus), "It's another one... Reginald... something."

Reginald says (to Angus), "Please, good sir, do not let me interrupt. Reginald Cox, at your service."

Tymen says (to Reginald), "Reg, this is Angus. A fine fellow, if ever I met one."

Governor says (to Reginald), "Angus MacBride is the innkeeper. Big, burly highlander with the requisite red whiskers."

Brianna sighs, and sips her drink.

(From Governor) Angus: Aye.

[colonial] Reginald asks, "So we're not, as such, in the New World yet?"

[colonial] Brianna says, "Nope, just the middle-aged world."

[colonial] Governor says, "Heh. Tropical paradise. Pineapples, coconuts, drinks with little umbrellas in them except nobody uses umbrellas much these days."

Reginald orders something mild.

(From Governor) Angus: Well, as I was saying. There was some sort of agreement between the kingdom of Parameswara and Castille, which was why Castille had Maristella to begin with. And Vendel was looking to get a port for themselves.

(From Governor) Angus: (pouring out something mild) Then last year the old sultan died, and his son decided to pass Maristella over to Vendel instead.

(From Governor) Angus: I don't rightly know why, except it was all legit and most of the garrison had to withdraw. The new Vendel governor's been setting himself up since. Even arranged for the new sultan to get his own Vendel secretary and translator.

[colonial] Brianna says, "afk"

(From Governor) Angus: that's all I know.

Tymen says, "A tribute to Vendel busines acumen."

jwalrus has disconnected.

jwalrus has connected.

Brianna says, "Fascinating."

Brianna asks (of group), "Shall we discuss future plans?"

Alonso says, "That would be good"

Tymen says, "May the best win the port, eh?" He toasts Alonso's glass of port.

Tymen says (to Alonso), "Fine talking with you; we'll be back, to be sure."

[colonial] Tymen says, "(Er, to Angus)"

[colonial] Tymen says, "(Or Alfred or Annabelle or some A-person.)"

(From Governor) Angus: Aye. And if not, I already have yer money.

Tymen laughs.

Brianna says, "Back to the ship, then/"

Brianna asks, "?"

Tymen says, "Sure enough."

Alonso says, "Let's."

Reginald quaffs quickly.

Governor says, "(back on the ship...)"

Brianna asks, "I have no immediate commission, and we have a ship. Do any of you have specific plans?"

Reginald says, "I'd prefer to press on to our original destination."

Alonso says, "As I said earlier, the Bishop is headed for Rajkapur, to have dinner with the governor of Luzon"

Alonso says, "I am tempted to go with him, or at least arrive in Rajkapur"

Tymen says, "I was thinking of looking around San Angelo for a bit, myself. To see what sort of opportunities arise."

[colonial] Tymen asks, "Also, isn't this our original destination, more or less?"

[colonial] Reginald asks, "Is it?"

[colonial] Brianna says, "I thought so."

[colonial] Alonso says, "I did, too."

[colonial] Reginald says, "I just got here."

[colonial] Brianna says, "ellric is calling."

[colonial] Eolo asks, "is he calling from san angelo or rajkapur?"

[colonial] Tymen says, "It's the right part of the world, at least. Reginald might have had a different island in mind."

Reginald says, "I was hoping to enjoin a botanical expedition in these parts; stout and stalwart companions such as yourselves would be welcomed indeed."

[colonial] Reginald says (to GM), "Plot hook, please."

[colonial] Governor says, "There's the party where you could meet Important People And Possible Patrons. There's El Buitre (and the reward for his capture) lurking in the opposite direction. There's plague-ridden El Pedro that no-one will go to (but only Alonso has heard of this). There's the suspicious handing-over of Maristella)"

Tymen says, "Flowers? I can't say that's the sort of expedition that yields much return on investment."

[colonial] Reginald says, "Ooh, party. That sounds like fun."

Reginald says (to Tymen), "Perhaps that's what the first man to discover tea thought."

[colonial] Tymen asks, "Do we know about the party yet? We haven't gone to tellt he governor about Clemm yet, have we?"

[colonial] Alonso says, "I know about the party, assuming he's talking about the one in Rajkapur"

[colonial] Tymen says, "(Er, we = !Alonso)"

[colonial] Governor says (to Alonso), "that's the one."

Reginald says, "And who knows what remains of lost civilizations might be hidden by these forests."

[colonial] Alonso says, "I've been alluding to it, but not said anything about it explicitly. That can be changed"

Tymen asks (of Reginald), "Ah, you'll be boiling and tasting each plant as you go along, then?"

[colonial] Tymen says, "Out of the three, Buitre gets Tym's interest more than the others."

Reginald says, "Perhaps a slightly more rigourous method, but something of that nature, perhaps."

[colonial] Brianna says, "I'm back, though my participation might be a bit limited now that Ellric is awake and Lucian is asleep."

[colonial] Governor says (to Brianna), "Easy solution to that: wake Lucian up."

[colonial] Alonso says, "Alonso's interested in Rajkapur, and through it Luzon"

[colonial] Reginald says, "The manhunt will possibly take us into the wilderness, so Reginald could probably be talked into it."

[colonial] Brianna says, "he asked me not to."

[colonial] Brianna says, "i think we should go to the party, and maybe Buitre chase."

[colonial] Brianna says, "chasing tea may be profitable, but . . ."

[colonial] Reginald says, "Let's see what the party brings us."

[colonial] Alonso says (to Tymen), "You in? It might be good for money/contacts."

[colonial] Tymen says, "Sure, I've nothing against partying, I guess."

Alonso says, "If your interest in the wilderness can wait, I think the dinner party in Rajkapur might be interesting."

Tymen asks, "What's this?"

Reginald says, "Oh, I suppose I could content myself with that."

Alonso says, "Oh, did I not explain? Sorry."

Brianna says, "And there's nothing that says we can't explore the wilderness wherever we happen to find ourselves."

Alonso says, "One Col. Abearnethie, an Avalonian, is having a dinner party in Rajkapur. The Bishop is attending, and indicated to me that the governor of Luzon would be attending."

Alonso says, "I'd guess many other people will be doing so as well."

Brianna says, "Ill have to have my dress uniform pressed."

Governor says, "One of the sailors comes knocking."

Tymen says, "Many other important people, I imagine? Could be worth the time."

Brianna opens the door. "Yes?"

(From Governor) Sailor: Message from the governor, uh, cap'n. Says he'd like to have a word with all of you, soon as you're able.

Alonso asks (of Brianna), "You've met the governor, then?"

(From Governor) Sailor tugs his forelock and skitters off.

Brianna says (to No,), "but I was expecting his summons. When I dropped off the Dona, she indicated he'd probably want to chat with all of us."

Alonso says, "Aha"

Tymen says, "Makes sense, what with the circumstances and all."

Brianna goes to run a brush through her hair, and wash her face.

Tymen asks, "I take it there's no more we need to discuss first?"

[colonial] Brianna says, "I didn't go far - there's a washbasin in the room."

Alonso says (to Tymen), "I'm happy going to Rajkapur, certainly."

Tymen says (to Alonso), "Yes, I meant regarding this ship."

Tymen says, "I had thought there were some financial matters Brianna had mentioend earlier; perhaps I misheard."

Alonso says, "Will we not have use of this ship? I'd assumed..."

Tymen shrugs.

Brianna says, "We need money to pay the sailors and handle provisions, if we're going to keep the boat. I don't recall how much we have."

Tymen says, "The reward from the Vodacce should cover the wages and provisions for the trip here, at least."

Brianna says, "Clemm had papers indicating silk and spices were good cargo to pick up here, if we're interested in trade."

Tymen asks, "Is there much trade between the islands, or mainly just from the islands to Theah and back?"

Alonso says, "I dn't know much about trade, but I will help however I can."

Brianna says, "Or we could go to the party, see what opportunities present themselves, and then decide."

Tymen asks, "When is this party, in any case? One week? Two?"

Reginald says, "Perhaps we should talk to the governor first; it may make our choice more clear."

Alonso says (to Tymen), "In a few days, actually."

Alonso says, "the Bishop sails at first light tomorrow"

Tymen says (to Alonso), "My. How sudden."

Tymen frowns. "And I've already paid my room for the week."

Tymen says, "Well. Perhaps I can find another of our travelling companions who needs a bed during my absense."

Brianna says, "I'll probably stay on the ship for now. Gina might could use your bed."

Brianna says, "And she might object if you were in it."

[colonial] Eolo says, "rowr"

[colonial] Governor says, "heh"

[colonial] Alonso laughs.

Tymen says (to Brianna), "I shall be careful to specify which days I expect it to be available, and leave the choice up to her."

Brianna just grins.

Alonso asks, "Oh?"

Alonso exclaims, "Oh!"

Brianna laughs.

Governor throws drama dice at Brianna and Alonso

Brianna asks, "So, just to recount, we have decided to attend the party? Or do something else?"

Tymen says, "It appears we will attend."

Tymen asks, "Do we take the ship with us?"

Brianna says, "To the party? It might be a bit heavy, even for all of us."

[Crows-Nest] Alonso says, "beaten to the joke by a dour Eisen"

[colonial] Brianna asks, "I thought the party was here? Or is it elsewhere?"

Tymen asks (of Brianna), "Swimming there might be easier without it, you think?"

Brianna says, "Not with this weaponry. Its heavy, you know."

Brianna asks (of Alonso), "Where did you say it was?"

Alonso says, "It's going to be held in Rajkapur."

Alonso says, "I don't know where that is, but evidently getting there involves boats."

Brianna asks, "Which is where?"

[colonial] Brianna says, "timing"

Governor says, "(About two days west of here, according to the charts)"

Tymen says, "I suspect it may be an island."

Tymen says, "I'm told there are several of them hereabouts."

Brianna says, "It might be helpful to know which one. Island hopping is a fun, albeit time-consuming, hobby."

Alonso says, "We can probably find out with a little work"

Governor says, "(Clemm did have a chart of the area...)"

Tymen looks on the chart for where El Buitre was supposed to be.

Governor says, "The chart shows Rajkapur is actually on the same landmass as San Angelo. The shoreline of this landmass extends south a ways before turning west again and stopping because no-one's mapped it that far. The channel of water here is the Siren Pass. South of that, the shoreline picks up again (possibly the same landmass, possibly not) with the kingdom of Parameswara and Maristella on a tiny island a short distance east of it."

Governor says, "Rajkapur is located at the mouth of a river. Or inlet of some sort. Again, no-one's explored it. The whole region is labelled "Kingdom of Srivijaya"."

Brianna eyes the map.

Alonso says, "Hm. I always become worried when maps have big blank spaces except for inscriptions like 'Here There Be Ponies'."

Brianna says (to Reginald), "Looks like there's plenty of land available for exploration in that direction."

Brianna looks doubtfully at Alonso. "Ponies frighten you?"

Alonso says, "No."

Alonso says, "But the maps inevitably lie, and instead of ponies you find giant beasts."

Alonso says, "They only say 'ponies' to make it seem more inviting."

Reginald says (to Brianna), "Indeed."

Brianna says, "Oh, I see," says Brianna, who doesn't."

Brianna asks, "Then we shall fight them, yes?"

[Crows-Nest] Governor pictures Brianna fighting a my-little-pony.

[colonial] Brianna exclaims, "teehee!"

[colonial] Tymen says, "(Making a map attempt... mind if I paste?)"

[colonial] Governor says, "go ahead"

[colonial] Alonso asks, "but where are the ponies?"

[colonial] Tymen says, "West of Siren's Pass."

[colonial] Governor says, "heh."

[colonial] Tymen asks (of Governor), "Is that about right?"

[colonial] Governor says, "Close ... but Parameswara is on the "mainland"."

[colonial] Tymen asks, "Ah, OK. On the coast at the bottom?"

[colonial] Governor says, "right"

[colonial] Tymen says, "(See? This is what you can do if you take Cartography.)"

[colonial] Alonso says, "yay"

Tymen points, "Hmm. If we take the ship to Rajkapur, perhaps we could see if that's a river or a bay."

Tymen says, "If it's a river, there's a chance it may empty out into the other end of Siren's Pass."

Reginald says, "Should be easy enough to determine. Rivers are not salty."

Reginald asks, "So, shall we talk to the governor, and then set sail?"

Alonso says, "That sounds good to me."

Tymen asks, "No need to sail until morning, is there?"

Tymen says, "I'd like to enjoy one night in the bed I've paid for."

Brianna says, "Sounds good."

Reginald excuses himself to shave, &c.

Brianna finishes her brief freshen-up, and is ready to go.

Alonso puts on a new cassock and makes sure he has his staff.

Tymen thinks he's presentable enough already.

Reginald asks, "Ah, that feels better. Shall we set off?"

Tymen asks, "Ready?"

Governor says, "Arr"

Alonso says, "This way," and starts walking.

Brianna follows.

Tymen walks as well.

[colonial] Governor says, "funny how everybody says they're ready and waits for someone else to make the first move ... always happens...."

[colonial] Alonso accidentally leads the group into a closet.

[colonial] Tymen asks, "Does it happen in face to face games, or only online?"

[colonial] Tymen says (to Alonso), "Yay"

Governor says, "At the Mansion...."

[colonial] Governor says (to Tymen), "online, mostly."

[colonial] Tymen says, "Probably a feature of lost body language."

Tymen says, "Nice place."

[colonial] Reginald says, "Also I've noticed that in online games it's less likely that there will be a clear party leader who generally takes charge of that sort of thing."

[colonial] Alonso says, "No one wants to cut people short of any RPing they're going to do, I'm guessing."

Governor says, "You are ushered into the study of Governor Emilio Fernandez. He's at his desk in front of a large window."

[colonial] Governor says, "one of the reasons I played Giancarlo the way I did.... sort of guy who starts off and expects people to follow."

Alonso says, "Governor, a pleasure to meet you."

Governor Fernandez says, "<ahem> Good day, gentleman. I have heard that I owe you a depth of gratitude."

Governor Fernandez says, "(er, gentlemen, and lady)

Tymen inclines his head.

Brianna bows.

Brianna says, "Doing our duty, sir."

Governor Fernandez says, "To be sure, when Colonel Devereaux and I made the arrangements, we did not guess what sort of a man we had hired for the ship. Fortunately, you were at hand, and for that I am grateful."

Alonso says, "We were merely in the wrong place at the right time, Governor. Surely anyone else would have done as we did."

Brianna says, "It is always a pleasure to hand that sort over."

Governor Fernandez says, "As long as you are in this port, consider yourselves my guests. I shall make arrangements that the best rooms at the Piper be made available to you at no charge."

Governor Fernandez says, (to Alonso) "Would they? I wonder...."

Governor Fernandez says, "You of course now have full ownership of the scoundrel's ship, to do with as you see fit."

Brianna says, "Thank you, governor. You are most generous."

Brianna . o O ( mmhhmm pirate hunting )

Brianna asks, "We were considering attending the Rajkepur party in a few days. Any suggestions on persons we should meet?"

Governor Fernandez says, (a little surprised) "Ah! Well, that is a coincidence, as I am due to make an appearance there as well."

Alonso says, "Wonderful! It would be nice to know some people there ahead of time."

Governor Fernandez says, "I had hoped that my family would be here in time, and had procured invitations for them ... though they are presently unwilling to leave dry land."

Brianna says, "Excellent, then we'll be in good company."

Tymen says, "Mmm. I can understand their reticence, considering."

Governor Fernandez reaches inside his desk and pulls out five invitations. He looks up at you, puts one away, and spreads the remaining four out in front of him.

Tymen asks, "In light of your generous offer, could I make a very small request?"

Governor Fernandez says, "Yes?"

Brianna reaches for an invitation. "Thank you, governor. I see your generosity in considerable.

Reginald unobtrusively takes one as well.

Tymen asks, "When you messenger goes to speak with the master at the Braw Piper, could he request that my prepayment be set aside for our return?"

Governor Fernandez says, "Ah, of course."

Tymen smiles. "Much olbiged."

Tymen takes his invitation, as well.

Governor Fernandez says, "If you've already paid for rooms, allow me to reimburse you. How many days had you paid for?"

[Crows-Nest] Reginald says, "93"

Tymen says, "I procured one week's stay -- five guilders."

[Crows-Nest] Governor says, "yay"

[colonial] Tymen says, "(It's too soon to be double-crossing the governor...)"

Governor Fernandez counts out five guilders and hands them over.

[colonial] Tymen says, "(Best to put that off until -- well. Until opportunity presents itself.)"

Tymen bows, "Thank you."

[colonial] Governor says, "heh"

Alonso takes his invitation. "This is extremely kind of you."

Governor Fernandez says, "Not at all ... I doubt there is anything I could do to repay your service to me."

Reginald says, "Please give our fondest regards to your family, and our regrets that they shall not make it."

Governor Fernandez says, "Of course."

Brianna bows again, and turns to go.

[colonial] Tymen says, "(BTW, doesn't Alonso already have an invitation?)"

Reginald takes his leave, assuming it is granted.

[colonial] Governor says, "that's true ... he sort of does."

Tymen touches his brow, and follows.

[colonial] Reginald says, "Presumably this is an even better VIP invitation."

[colonial] Brianna says, "so now that he has two, maybe Gina could come."

[colonial] Tymen says, "So now he has one marked 'Bishop' and one marked 'Dona Antonia'."

[colonial] Alonso says, "I'll be sure to look older"

Alonso also follows.

[colonial] Alonso says, "The Bishop had said he could get me an invitation; this will spare him the trouble of doing so."

Reginald says, "Let us set sail upon the first favourable tide tomorrow, then."

Tymen says, "Very well."

Brianna says (to Tymen), "Looks like Gina won't be using your bed tonight after all."

Alonso says, "I will need to meet the bishop at his ship before we sail, to let him know what has happened."

Brianna says, "And I'll get to sleep in on land. That will be nice."

Tymen says (to Brianna), "Never a need to rush. I am sure we will be back in San Angelo sooner or later."

[colonial] Tymen wonders what time it is.

[colonial] Reginald says, "It's time to get ill."

[colonial] Governor says, "getting on into the afternoon."

[colonial] Governor says, "probably dinnertime"

[colonial] Brianna asks, "fast-forward?"

Tymen says, "For now, it might be a good time to look for dinner."

Tymen says, "Something that hasn't been preserved for long voyages, preferably."

[colonial] Reginald asks, "Fast forward or are we going to wrap? When is this supposed to run to?"

Alonso says, "That does sound good."

[colonial] Tymen says, "Wrapping on dinner seems good to me."

Reginald says (to Tymen), "I suppose Angus would be able to set us up with some victuals."

Brianna says, "And some stories."

[colonial] Governor says, "Wrapping"

[colonial] Governor says, "And beginning next session with landing in Rajkapur"

[colonial] Brianna starts spitting into a microphone.

[colonial] Tymen says, "Works for me."

[colonial] Brianna says, "sounds good to me."

[colonial] Reginald says, "Huzzah."

[colonial] Alonso says, "yay"

Governor says, "It turns out that Gina has gotten a job as a cook at the Braw Piper."

[colonial] Reginald says, "I apologize for my tardiness; just got out of a Living Greyhawk game, actually, which I shall discuss shortly on #rpg."

Governor says, "Angus is all smiles and good humour ... because Gina knows how to make a good haggis."

[colonial] Reginald says, "Mmm, yes, 'cook'."

[colonial] Tymen asks, "Is she involved in preparing our dinner that night?"

[colonial] Governor says (to Reginald), "understood"

[colonial] Reginald says, "Avalonian ex-pats are everywhere. That's great."

[colonial] Governor says (to Tymen), "yes"

Governor says, "Nightfall brings with it a balmy coolness ... relief after the hot, humid day."

Governor says, "And you all sleep peacefully until Angus' promised wake-up call ... bagpipes at sunrise."

[colonial] Brianna exclaims, "hee!!"

Governor says, "<end>"

[colonial] Brianna says, "anyone ever hear bagpipes at close range? Its really something."

[colonial] Alonso says, "wow. That's cruel."

[colonial] Alonso says, "One guy I knew was a bagpipe player"

[colonial] Governor says (to Brianna), "I've been trying to learn to play the things."

[colonial] Alonso says, "He was always threatening to play something in church"

[colonial] Alonso says, "which, he said, would necessitate everyone moving to the back pew ahead of time."

[colonial] Brianna says, "a guy I knew in high school came and played them for me at my house. He was good."

[colonial] Tymen says, "At least he probably plays downstairs."

[colonial] Brianna says, "they're designed for the highlands, not suburbia, that's for sure."

[colonial] Governor asks, "Oh yeah ... about drama dice ... you know I'm doing "replenish at each session", right?"

[colonial] Brianna asks, "so when shall we meet next?"

[colonial] Tymen says, "I don't think I knew that. Useful."

[colonial] Alonso asks (of Governor), "I didn't. So it goes back to our base # at each session?"

[colonial] Governor says (to Alonso), "You get your base # back at each session, on top of whatever you saved from before."

[colonial] Tymen says (to Brianna), "When the mewling kit scratches at the bark of a dead oak, we three shall ... er, wait."

[colonial] Tymen asks (of Governor), "So... if I didn't use any DD the first time, and I had two DD left over the second time, and didn't use any this time, I have six altogether for next time?"

[colonial] Governor exclaims (at Tymen), "haha cuz UR 4!!!1!"

[colonial] Brianna says (to Tymen), "The crow called behind the shed."

[colonial] Governor says (to Tymen), "Er, yeah."

[colonial] Tymen says (to Governor), "Excellent."

[colonial] Tymen prepares to fling them about like confetti next time we play :)

[colonial] Brianna asks, "I don't get it. ??"

[colonial] Brianna says, "which considering our history at parties, will be easy to do. :-)"

[colonial] Alonso says, "heh"

[colonial] Reginald says, "The log can probably be shut down."

[colonial] Governor says (to Brianna), "at the start of each session you add as many drama dice as your lowest trait to the pool."

[colonial] Governor says (to Brianna), "Is how I'm doing it."

[colonial] Tymen asks, "Everyone done talking for the 'script, then?"

[colonial] Brianna says, "I didn't get the (seaming) quote regarding the 4!!!1! etc."

[colonial] Governor says (to Tymen), "aye"

[colonial] Tymen says (to Brianna), "There are more than three of us."
