Jean-Sebastien says, "Although a delay of 15 minutes would be good, to get things cleared away here." Game_Master says, "'k" Jean-Sebastien says, "Also, I think Lousy's AFK." DiegoValdez says, "'kay" DiegoValdez has disconnected. Jean-Sebastien waves to Dieago. Jean-Sebastien says, "Er." Jean-Sebastien shrugs. Game_Master says, "ok, right, for real this time" [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says, "All right, description set." (From Jean-Sebastien) TableSaw materializes. Game_Master says, "welcome to the game. as I've mentioned, the general style is intended to be fast and loose and swashbuckling. if it stops being that way, let me know." Louis-Phillipe says, "Arr." [early_musketeers] Amber asks, "how to set description?" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "'@describe me=What you look like'" Game_Master says, "you are all musketeers in the de la Fleur regiment -- somewhat recently fallen out of favor due to its emphasis on the individual in a time when war sweeps the land and the army is all the rage, and the way oddballs and eccentrics seem to gravitate towards its ranks (present company excepted, of course). Recently out of training, you have been sent on your first mission, to the city of Rayure" Giraud says, "Bah, out of favor. Soon enough our worth will be recognized." Game_Master says, "you arrive at its gates after some days of riding, none the worse for wear. already, a week before the harvest festival is due to start, the streets are crowded with farmers and sight-seers and people hawking everything from patent medicines to fried-things-onna-stick" Game_Master says, "you were told to report to Commander Bron, at the guard's headquarters here" veek arrives, looking for booty. andyf arrives, looking for booty. Game_Master says, "and so we begin." [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says, "Damn. I should've played Carrot. 'Onna stick!'" Jean-Sebastien asks, "Ah, Festival! What better assignment could there be?" Giraud glances around. "With any luck the headquarters will be ready at hand." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Should we kick out SF before starting?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(I'll let him know)" andyf disappears through an invisible gap in the MUD. You think you may have heard the sounds of chatting before the gap closed again. [early_musketeers] Game_Master says (to Giraud), "you haven't been here before, although the main bulk of the city would probably be reached by continuing on this main street, west away from the gate" [late_musketeers] andyf has joined the channel. [early_musketeers] veek has joined the channel. Amber says (to Giraud), "What were the directions again? I wish the commander would've written them down." Jean-Sebastien looks around at the vendors, enjoying the excitement. Louis-Phillipe stares around at the crowds, one hand on his knife and the other on his purse. Giraud shrugs. "I thought Louis-Phillipe had them." ScruffyMan exclaims, "'allo, friends! new to our fair city, I see!" Giraud says, "but the main part of town appears to lie along this street. Surely the headquarters would be close by there." Jean-Sebastien says (to Man), "Greetings, good fellow." Louis-Phillipe says (to Man), "'Allo, Scruffy." ScruffyMan exclaims, "I imagine you'll be needing directions, and you are in luck! for just a few soleis, I can lead you any way you so desire!" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Remind me what soleis are worth?" ScruffyMan asks, "the theater? the finest tavern? the least fine tavern?" Giraud says, "For only a few soleis? I had no idea bargains would be so easy to come by at festival time." [early_musketeers] ScruffyMan says, "6 guilders" [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe asks (of GM), "So we have no directions?" [early_musketeers] ScruffyMan says, "ie, this is pricy" [early_musketeers] ScruffyMan says (to Louis), "no, but obviously they expected it would be easy to find" Giraud says (sotto voce), "I suspect this guidance is nowhere near worth its price." ScruffyMan exclaims (at Giraud), "indeed you are correct, good sir! it is lucky you came across me and not one of those other *dishonest* fellows who seek to prey upon honest travellers!" Amber says, "Or we could ask one of the local police-force. They're sure to be out in numbers on a festival." Jean-Sebastien says (to Man), "Your offer is most kind, but we won't be in need of your guidance today." LoneCleric arrives, looking for booty. Louis-Phillipe says (to Scruffy), "Thank you, sir, but non. In the festival, getting lost is an opportunity, not a problem." ScruffyMan asks, "ah.. perhaps you are interested in a map, then? do your own navigation! colored beads for the lady? sandwich?" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "sandwich...onna stick." [early_musketeers] (from Louis-Phillipe) ScruffyMan aksks - DAMMIT! veek disappears through an invisible gap in the MUD. You think you may have heard the sounds of chatting before the gap closed again. Jean-Sebastien asks, "How much are the beads, good sir?" [early_musketeers] LoneCleric has joined the channel. Giraud asks (of Jean), "Surely your uniform is adornment enough, non?" [early_musketeers] veek has left the channel. Louis-Phillipe takes a look at the beads, comparing them to the ornaments he's seen sailors wearing. [early_musketeers] ScruffyMan says (to Louis), "not as nice." Jean-Sebastien says (to Giraud), "Not for myself, monsieur, but for our fair lady. It is only befit a gentleman to honor beauty so." Giraud says, "Ah-hah. I should have realized." [early_musketeers] LoneCleric says, "(I just wanted to say how weird it is to see all those french names when I type "who". I'm totally psyched out. Had to say it. Sorry. ;-) )" Louis-Phillipe says (to Jean), "We should honour her with a better gift. I've seen common sailors wearing finer jewellery than this." Amber says, "Sir, I appreciate your kind offer, but the commander has instructed us to keep frivolity at a minimum when in uniform, which I plainly am." [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says (to LoneCleric), "I was gonna call myself Gilles, just to mock you." Giraud says, "And speaking of the commander, we should undoubtedly be on our way." Jean-Sebastien says (to Amber), "Alas, if you so wish." ScruffyMan says, "in uniform -- but that means .. er. um. you will excuse me, good sirs." ScruffyMan steps back hurriedly and disappears into the crowd. Giraud raises an eyebrow. Louis-Phillipe says (to Scruffy), "Hold there a mom - oh, blast." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Well, we *almost* got ourselves a good contact with the local underworld... :)" [early_musketeers] LoneCleric says (to L-P), "Mock? Surely you mean *honor*." Giraud says, "I find myself suddenly on guard." Giraud asks, "Did anyone else find his sudden change in demeanor surprising?" [early_musketeers] LoneCleric has left the channel. Louis-Phillipe says, "Undoubtedly up to no good. Well, we'll get the next one." Louis-Phillipe asks (of Giraud), "Only now? Fresh from the country, eh?" Jean-Sebastien says (to Giraud), "Surprising? Not at all." Amber chuckles. LoneCleric disappears through an invisible gap in the MUD. You think you may have heard the sounds of chatting before the gap closed again. Giraud says (to Louis), "Not at all. I would have expected him to have realized our occupation based solely on Jean's mode of dress." [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says, "I notice Giraud is neuter. I to make much use of this in battles of wits." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "snrk" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Heh." Louis-Phillipe asks (of Giraud), "You mean you expected him to take us for pimps?" [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says, "Wait, that's an anachronism. Strike that." GateGuard walks over. Giraud asks (of Louis), "Surely you do not suggest that Jean would be treating Amber as a Jenny?" GateGuard says, "may I help you, sirs? you seem lost." GateGuard says, "and -- pardon me -- madam." [early_musketeers] Giraud says (to Louis), "Too late." Amber says (to GateGuard), "We wish to see Commander Bron" Louis-Phillipe stands back to let someone else answer. [early_musketeers] Giraud asks, "Do any of us have a letter of transfer or orders?" Amber asks, "Where might we find him?" GateGuard says (to Amber), "the commander? he'll be at the headquarters. straight down this street, past the bank, it's on your left, can't miss it. right before the stables." [early_musketeers] Amber asks, "how do I have my prompt say 'Amber' rather than 'you'?" [early_musketeers] GateGuard says, "@field me = saymode : 3" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "The Gate Guard is truly a font of information." Giraud says (to Guard), "Just past the bank on the left, before the stables. Thank you." Amber says (to Gate), "Thank you very much." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Times new Roman, I think." Louis-Phillipe nods to the guard in passing. [early_musketeers] GateGuard says (to Giraud), "you have the equivalent, yeah. your regiment's command retains the final authority over you, but this guy orders you by his favor" GateGuard salutes and returns to his post. Louis-Phillipe starts down the street, not waiting to see if anyone follows. Amber snorts at Louis' back, but heads down after him anyway. Giraud says, "He's gone in search of baubles, I'll wager." Giraud follows Louis and Amber. Jean-Sebastien follows Amber, smiling at the people they pass. Game_Master says, "You pass by a street musician playing some kind of lute as people toss coins in a hat by his feet, a man with his trained dog, a man selling apples, and lots and lots of people before passing the bank and then, as promised, arriving at the guard headquarters." Amber says (to Giraud), "And he'll find plenty to spend his money on, if its not lifted from his purse first." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Also, did we train together? I'm presuming a lot of familiarity here. :)" [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says, "I said earlier I had one hand on my purse. That still goes." Giraud says (to Amber), "Undoubtedly." [early_musketeers] OutsideGuard says, "yeah, you're all at least tangentially acquainted" OutsideGuard asks, "greetings -- what is your business? here to see Bron?" Jean-Sebastien nods, "Oui, that we are." Giraud says (to Guard), "Indeed." OutsideGuard says, "second door on the right" OutsideGuard stands aside to let you walk in. Jean-Sebastien says, "Merci." Giraud enters. Amber goes in. Louis-Phillipe as well. Bron is sitting behind his desk, looking at paperwork. He looks harassed, cranky, and unshaven. Jean-Sebastien follows last. Bron says, "More of de la Fleur's boys, eh? And they're letting in girls, too, I see. Well, I always say, if you see a recruit and they're as green as new apples and don't know which end of their blade is up, they're sure to be from de la Fleur." Giraud says, "I see someone else's reputation has preceded us." Bron says, "take a seat, take a seat, don't stand there gawking" [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe asks, "Yay cranky Sarge. Which of us gets to be the jive-talking partner?" Jean-Sebastien says (to Bron), "How droll." [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says, "I nominate Jean." [early_musketeers] Giraud laughs. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien chuckles. Bron says (to Jean), "if you want to be clerking for the next four weeks, just say the word, boy." Jean-Sebastien takes a seat. Bron says, "I don't expect any of you know what you're supposed to be doing here, so let me spell it out. Every year in Rayure the farmers come from all 'round to sell their harvest and buy tools for next year. There's trading, dancing, performing, that kind of thing. I'm sure it doesn't compare to the fancy parties you're used to, but it'll do." Giraud also sits. Bron says, "And of course that means we get pick-pockets, performers, travellers, thugs, drunks, merchants, vagrants, actors, con-men, the works. I was hoping to get somebody other than de la Fleur, but that's life for you. Luckily there's a half-dozen more regiments here already so it ain't as bad as it could be." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, ">X BRON You see nothing special." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Right. He's just an NPC. Only PCs are special." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "yeah, and according to him, we *all* rode the short bus." Bron says, "Jacques has arranged accomodations for you all -- as you can see, there isn't room here for my normal guards, let alone the extra." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "I keep waiting for Bron to say, 'You're a bunch of loose cannons endangering the force!'" [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says, "s/cannons/muskets" Amber says, "Sir, we won't dissapoint you." Bron says, "your duties will be to patrol the marketplace, ensure the tax money is collected properly, and arrest the criminals" [early_musketeers] Bron says, "hee hee" Bron says (to Amber), "that's the spirit! pity the others can't match up to you, girl" Amber asks, "If you would explain the tax system, for us?" Louis-Phillipe says, "Our mothers taught us not to speak if we have nothing nice to say." Bron says, "the tax is collected at the gate -- a price is paid per head, an additional price for horses, another for livestock, and some fraction of the merchant's goods for sale" Bron says, "the gate guards are capable of handling the arithmatics themselves, but there are always smugglers and con-men trying to avoid the tax" Bron says, "and other things" Giraud nods. Amber asks, "Is that where you would like us posted? The gate?" Bron says, "I was in fact about to send someone to the west gate -- I heard rumors of some trouble with the tax money -- after you get your rooms, you'd better head out there" Bron says (to Amber), "I will expect you to use your judgement, such as it is" Giraud asks, "Will the guards take charge of the money, or are we to ferry it on a set schedule?" Bron exclaims (at Amber), "initiative, that's what I reward!" Amber asks, "And our rooms would be where?" Bron says, "you will generally be expected to patrol the city and main crowded areas -- if you check on the gates once every few hours that should be sufficient" Bron says (to Amber), "Jacques is across the hall; he's arranged for them." Amber says, "Then, with your permission, sir, we'll be on our way, unless you have further instructions for us." Bron says, "you will report to me on a weekly basis to explain your accomplishments, and come when I send for you. that is all." Bron exclaims, "dismissed!" Louis-Phillipe mutters, "Yes, let us get out of here," under his breath. Giraud stands and bows. Jean-Sebastien bows to the commander. Amber salutes smartly, and departs. Giraud follows Amber. Jean-Sebastien exits. Giraud mutters (to Amber), "Well done winning the favor of the commander, such as he had to give." Jacques, across the hall, is (unsurprisingly) a harried-looking man who appears to be used to being constantly shouted at. Amber whispers back to Giraud "I figured he could use some sweetening-up. Jacques says, "yes, yes. rooms, no doubt? grapes lane and sixth -- anyone will tell you the way. rent and two meals a day arranged with the land-lady. all else you'll have to provide for yourself." Giraud asks (of Jacques), "Do we need a chit for the rooms?" Amber asks, "Or will our uniforms suffice?" Louis-Phillipe says, "Give Jean a few hours and we'll have a chit IN the rooms..." Jacques says (to Amber), "yes, yes. I told her to expect musketeers." [early_musketeers] Jacques says (to Louis), "hee hee" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Heh." Jean-Sebastien grins. Louis-Phillipe says (to Amber), "Er, begging the lady's presence." Jacques asks, "now then, I'm getting behind in my scheduling? anything else?" [early_musketeers] Giraud exclaims (at Louis), "Watch your French!" Giraud says, "That should do for now, I think." Jacques makes little shooing motions, and then goes back to scribbling frantically on his papers. Amber asks (of Louis), "Not a problem. Remember where I was raised?" Jean-Sebastien says, "Let us to the gates, then." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Do anyone of us know where Amber was raised?" [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe asks (of Amber), "No, actually. Do you have a character background on-line?" [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says (to Giraud), "You too." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "not yet - i" [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says, "I'd ask IC, but I figure we'd already know if we've been training." Giraud says (to Jean), "If it's all the same, I'd rather confirm our billeting first." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "i'll ftp it later. i was raised in a brothel." Giraud says (to Jean), "I'd rather not have to listen to Louis snore if I can avoid it." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "http://www.phy.duke.edu/~sgranade/giraud.txt has my bkgd at the bottom." [early_musketeers] Jacques asks, "so going where? rooms or gate?" Jean-Sebastien says (to Giraud), "I have no objection." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "rooms first then gate, I think." Giraud says, "To Grapes Lane and Sixth, then." Louis-Phillipe once again starts down the road without looking back. [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Clearly I'm going to have to learn my way around quickly." [early_musketeers] Giraud says (to GM), "Assume I'm studying the town layout as much as possible to improve my navigation skills." Game_Master says, "you head out into the street -- the first few people asked for directions are appearently all tourists here also, but eventually you get a local who points the way" Jean-Sebastien asks (of EntryGuard), "Which way is it to Grapes and Sixth?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(or that)" EntryGuard says, "a bit thataway, then up some blocks, then over to your left. can't miss it." [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says, "Hee. Very specific." [early_musketeers] EntryGuard says, "enh, well, I'd rather just navigate by >GO TO X anyway" Jean-Sebastien smiles and waves to the guard, heading thataway. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien exclaims (at GM), "But we don't even have the treasure map yet!" Game_Master says, "eventually you arrive at the house. it's a somewhat run-down two-story building, but does have a small patch of grass out back surrounded by a fence and a trellis above the front door." Giraud says, "Ah, a...garden." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says (to LandLady), "Here are the musketeers you requested." Louis-Phillipe asks, "Fft. From the capital to ... this?" Jean-Sebastien says, "Ah, a trellis." Giraud walks up to the front door and knocks. LandLady opens the door. "Ah, good, you're here." Louis-Phillipe says, "Well, I suppose it's less cramped than on shipboard. But without the exotic ports of call." Amber makes shushing motions at Louis. Amber asks (of Landlady), "Greetings. Where would you like us?" LandLady says, "there are three rooms downstairs, one room upstairs, a back yard, a fireplace downstairs. a girl will come in to lay out breakfast and cold supper -- for lunch you'll have to fend for yourself. don't break the furniture, or I'll have it back double in soleis from the the commander." LandLady says, "here are keys -- now, you'll excuse me." LandLady hands over keys and bustles out. Giraud says, "Morbleu! but people are in a hurry in this town." Amber says, "Hmm. Very efficient." Jean-Sebastien setps inside, looking around at the accomodations. Giraud asks, "Anyone have a preference for the upstairs room?" Jean-Sebastien asks, "Do any of the rooms have windows?" Amber says, "I'll take upstairs." Game_Master says, "the upstairs room is something of a converted attic -- windows over the front door and back yard, a bit less furnished than the others" Giraud asks (of Jean), "and a ladder leaning conveniently underneath said windows?" Jean-Sebastien says (to Giraud), "One must make due with what one has." Game_Master says, "the downstairs rooms are arranged around the living/dining room (which has the main fireplace), and are pretty similar, one with a window to the back, one to the front, and one to a narrow side strip of garden between the house and the fence" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Is the trellis under that attic window?" [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says, "Hee." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Excellent." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "but of course" Louis-Phillipe says, "I'll take the side room if the two of you want the better views." Jean-Sebastien says, "If no one else has a preference for the upstairs room, I would be happy to take it." Giraud says, "I have no great preference, given that they all have a window and someplace for me to sleep." Louis-Phillipe says (to Jean), "I believe the lady already expressed a preference." Jean-Sebastien says, "Ah, my mistake. I was looking in the other room at the time." Louis-Phillipe says, "Well, if that's all arranged, we should hit the streets." Amber stashes her belongings. Giraud says (to Jean), "You can have the back, if you would find that more convenient." Jean-Sebastien says (to Giraud), "Thank you; that will do nicely." Giraud stashes what little he has brought in the front room and returns to the main hall. Jean-Sebastien does the same, of course. Amber asks "If we are all ready? and gestures toward the door. Giraud bows and gestures for Amber to lead. Amber heads out toward the gate. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Except that Giraud is probably the one who best remembers how to get back to the gate?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(this is the west gate, not the east gate)" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "If we seem to be going wrong, I'll gently guide us." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "what are all these random lines that keep appearing? Your alternate exit . . ." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Aha." [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe shrugs. "Not being able to find the gate isn't swashbuckling." [early_musketeers] Giraud says (to Amber), "Other people disconnecting." [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says, "Therefore, we can find the gate." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "type @oset muteconn and @oset mutedisc" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says (to Amber), "Connecting and disconnecting players. Try '@oset muteconn' and '@oset mutedisc'." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "also, you know it's west :)" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "@field me=options: muteconn mutedisc" Jean-Sebastien goes west. Game_Master says, "You arrive at the gate without difficulty." [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says, ">W" GateGuard is guarding the gate. Giraud says (to Guard), "Commander Bron sent us; he said there had been a report of trouble here." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks (of Louis), "'>KISS GUARD. KILL GUARD. UNDO. UNDO.'?" [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says, "Hee." GateGuard says (to Giraud), "not that I've heard, sir, but I just came on duty" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "'You can't undo twice in succession.' >APOLOGISE TO GUARD" Louis-Phillipe says, "Not right now. In general." GateGuard says (to Giraud), "no, wait -- I do recall an inquiry about some kind of "additional tax"" Giraud raises an eyebrow. "Did you hear any details about that?" GateGuard says, "which is nonsense, of course. tax at the gates, same as it's always been." Jean-Sebastien asks, "Who was making this inquiry?" GateGuard says, "one of the travelling merchants -- said he wouldn't come back next year if we were going to charge him twice" Giraud says, "I can see the festival would not be the same without him." Louis-Phillipe asks, "So he was charged before he got here?" Louis-Phillipe says, "I think we should take a look outside the walls." GateGuard scratches his head. "I don't rightly know what you mean, sir -- seems like there's many more merchants where he came from." Giraud says (to Guard), "You have a good point; I stand corrected." Giraud asks, "So did he pay the tax and continue in, or turn around and head back for home?" GateGuard says, "he continued in -- he knows very well there's no festival like this for miles around for another half-year" Louis-Phillipe asks, "I don't suppose you know where he set up?" Amber asks, "What was he selling?" GateGuard says, "and the amount of greedy louts we get trying to sell their merchandise -- no, sir, he's a half-hour gone" GateGuard says, "grapes and apples and cheeses, m'lady" Jean-Sebastien asks, "Perhaps we should take a look up the road, to see if there's anyone waylaying the pilgrims en route?" GateGuard says, "perhaps there also would be bread" Louis-Phillipe says, "I'm hungry already." Amber says (to Louis), "We may be able to find him among the food merchants, if we mingle in that direction and ask discreet questions." Louis-Phillipe says, "Very well, to the road." Louis-Phillipe heads out the fate. (From Louis-Phillipe) gate. [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "The best part of being Montaigne is how snarky you can be, just because." [early_musketeers] (from Jean-Sebastien) Giovanna asks (of Louis-Phillipe), "What?" [early_musketeers] GateGuard says, "hee hee" [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says, "s/Montaigne/Louis-Phillipe" Game_Master says (to Louis), "there are still people coming into the city, although the inward motion has lessened as the day gets on (it's post-noon, but not by much)" Jean-Sebastien says (to Amber), "I think Louis has made his decision, at least. If there's nothing there, we can seek what we might when we return to patrol the markets." Game_Master says (to Louis), "most of them are still foot travellers, but with a few entertainers, a horseman, and a guy with a wagon" [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says, "If somebody tells me off IC for doing this, I'll stop, BTW." Jean-Sebastien follows out after Louis. Giraud says (to Louis), "Let us not go too far up the road -- imagine how ecstatic Bron would be if we missed something in town because we were taking in the country air." Louis-Phillipe asks (of GM), "Is anyone set up beside the road selling things to travellers or anything?" Amber sighs, and trudges after. [early_musketeers] Game_Master says (to Louis), "no; there's probably some rule against people trying to evade the taxes that way" Amber keeps an eye out for pick-pockets and cut-purses. [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(are you folks just riding up the road?)" Louis-Phillipe stops a random foot traveller. "Any trouble on the road, sir?" [early_musketeers] Amber asks, "are we on horse-back?" [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe asks, "We're riding?" Jean-Sebastien walks up to a passing merchant. "We heard a rumor that there may be someone hassling passersby on the road before the gate. Have you seen anyone like that, possibly posing as a tax collector?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master asks, "I don't know; did you drop your horses off at the stables?" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Whoops, timing I guess." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "I know I had my horse inside Bron's office, but after that I'm not sure where I left it." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "hee hee" [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says, "I didn't realize I had a horse." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "as musketeers, you all have horses. also, you had to ride to get to the city." [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says, "Ok, we're riding then." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "alrighty." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "I assumed we dropped them off at Bron's, but having them is also valid. mounted police deter crime partly just by being visible." [early_musketeers] Giraud exclaims, "Horsey police! Horsey police!" Louis-Phillipe glares down at the peasant from atop his horse. "Well? Answer me, man. Any trouble?" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks (of Giraud), "Yes, you called?" RandomMerchant exclaims (at Jean), "you mean that man was not an approved representative of the city? this is an outrage!" RandomTraveller says (to Louis), "no, sir! the extra tax only applies to merchants, he said" Jean-Sebastien says (to Merchant), "That it is! Where was this scoundrel? We'll put a stop to his conniving tricks." RandomTraveller asks (of Jean), "does this mean the tax will be refunded? where do I go to collect it?" Amber says (to Traveller), "Explain the extra tax, please. We need to determine if it matches the tax the city sets out." [early_musketeers] RandomTraveller says, "er, s/traveller/merchant/" RandomMerchant says (to Amber), "an extra sol a head, he said. special merchant's festival tax." RandomMerchant says, "I thought it was fradulent, of course, but as a good, law-abiding merchant I was happy to pay" Louis-Phillipe asks, "Where was this man?" RandomMerchant says, "he was just up the road -- perhaps fifteen minutes on those horses" Giraud asks, "Did he take any taxes other than the "extra" one?" Jean-Sebastien says (to Merchant), "Alas, I would that I had the authority to make such a decision. It will be up to the commander of the guard how the ill-gotten funds are dispensed with." Louis-Phillipe asks, "Thank you for the help, citizen?" RandomMerchant says, "no, he said the usual ones would be collected at the gate" Louis-Phillipe exclaims, "s/?/!" RandomMerchant says (to Jean), "very well, but I will have to speak very sternly with the mayor if my money is not refunded" Louis-Phillipe tosses a sol to the merchant as he rides past. Jean-Sebastien says (to Merchant), "But you have been most helpful to us. In the event that the city is unable to return the money, let me give you this." Jean-Sebastien gives t-- lets Louis give the merchant a sol. Louis-Phillipe calls back over his shoulder, "Too late!" RandomMerchant exclaims (at Louis), "thank you sir! you are most kind!" RandomMerchant continues on into the city. Amber catches up with Louis. Giraud also follows. Amber exclaims (at Louis), "That was rude!" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "What is this, riding around throwing money at people?" Jean-Sebastien returns to his horse, so as to catch up with the others. [early_musketeers] (from Louis-Phillipe) Jean-Sebastien asks, "Who do you think you are, Robin Hood?" Amber says (to Louis), "Its one thing to be rude to us, your comrades & friends, but being rude to the citizenry will only make the Musketeers look bad in their eyes." Amber says (to Louis), "They don't see you, they see the Uniform." Jean-Sebastien doesn't actually catch up until Amber is finished lecturing Louis, though. [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says, "just got a phone call - going out in 20 min. or so." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Wouldn't want to interrupt :)" [early_musketeers] Amber says, "was it something i said? ;-)" Louis-Phillipe exclaims (at Amber), "Rude? How was that rude? I payed him good money for his information!" [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says, "afk a sec" [early_musketeers] Game_Master asks, "how are other people doing on time? we're getting near the end of our official time?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "er, without the last ?." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "I'm good to go for a while." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "I'm fine." Amber says, "True, but you don't toss coins at respectable merchants as you ride past! That's something you do for Jennies and street musicians." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "We started around 9:30, right?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "or 9:45 even" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "I'm good for a full three hour, if it happens that way." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "i'm good." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "ok" [early_musketeers] Amber says, "to stay, that is." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "I'll cut it perhaps a bit short then, but not real short" Louis-Phillipe's face darkens a little. "You think I was too abrupt? I'm sorry - it's a habit." Louis-Phillipe says, "I'll try to be more considerate in the future." Giraud says (to Jean), "It sounds like Amber is giving our friend quite the tongue-lashing." Jean-Sebastien says (to Giraud), "Mmm, better he than we, I imagine." Amber says, "Thank you." Game_Master says, "shadows are starting to lengthen, which is probably why you see the men at the bridge before they see you -- or perhaps it's just because they're looking the other way" Louis-Phillipe waits for the others to catch up for once. [early_musketeers] Giraud asks, "What do we see the men at the bridge doing?" [early_musketeers] Giraud asks, "lurking furtively, fishing?" Game_Master says, "they've erected a makeshift barricade on the far side of the river, a log pulled across the path, and seem to be talking to each person that passes" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "aha" Jean-Sebastien says (to Giraud), "Those look like our men." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "the bridge is probably too light for horses, although you could try and find another way over" Jean-Sebastien says, "But we should have proof before we take them in." Giraud nods. Giraud says, "I suppose no one will take us for merchants in our uniforms." Amber says, "If we stash the horses, go out by another way and come in this way, without the uniforms, we could see what they are up to." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "If we take of the tabard, do our clothes look normal?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "yeah, although I assume you're pretty well-dressed below it" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "We're *successful* merchants." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "hee hee" [early_musketeers] Amber asks, "well-dressed, like could pass for merchants?" [early_musketeers] Amber says, "timing" Giraud says (to Amber), "That sounds good." [early_musketeers] Game_Master asks, "well, you don't have any wares, do you?" [early_musketeers] Giraud asks, "Any chance of us grabbing merchants who have come through the "toll booth" already?" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien exclaims, "Sure. We're selling these fine tabards!" [early_musketeers] Amber says, "we could bribe a merchant to have us as his 'gaurds'." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "'Look just like a musketeer with the super-realistic logo! A steal at only three hundred sol.'" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says (to Giraud), "there'll be one along in a bit, probably" [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says, "Doh. AFK again - housemate just cooked me supper." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "pht. w/o the uniforms, nit-wit! :-P::::" [early_musketeers] Giraud says (to Amber), "Also a good idea." [early_musketeers] Giraud asks (of GM), "I assume since one might be along past the barrier in a bit, they will be before the barrier shortly before that?" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "If we crossed the bridge, would they see us?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "they're just on the other side of the bridge" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "although it's possible they wouldn't notice you until you were close, since they're looking away from you" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says (to Giraud), "mmhmm" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Would they know which way we came from?" [early_musketeers] Amber says, "or we could ride up to them and just demand they explain what they are doing. it would be faster." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "yeah, they're literally just on the other side of the bridge, so presumably if you came to them, you'd have to walk over the bridge" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says (to Amber), "Ker-splash." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "oh, right." Jean-Sebastien moves a short distance parallel to the river. "I'll see if there's another way across." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "so we stride up to them purposefully, or tabbards swaying, and demand they explain what they're doing." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says (to Jean), "nothing immediately in sight, although presumably there are other crossings if you ride far enough" Jean-Sebastien shakes his head. "Nothing obvious." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "We can wait; as a merchant approaches the barrier and their "transaction" ends, we can appear and find out what's going on." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "That sounds good." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "that way we have potential witnesses without us having to do a disguise song-and-dance." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "i like it." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Perhaps someone should suggest something IC?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "there's a merchant approaching now, if you want" Giraud spies an approaching merchant. Giraud says, "I have an idea." Giraud says, "Let that merchant reach the barrier. As he is concluding his...business with the fine gentlemen, let us approach and discover the truth of the matter." Amber asks, "Yes?" Amber says, "Very efficient. I like it." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(so horses or no horses?)" Jean-Sebastien nods, "I concur." Amber asks, "I suggest one of you do the talking. Shall I hold the horses on this side?" Jean-Sebastien dismounts. "That bridge is probably not sturdy enough for our horses as well as ourselves." Giraud says (to Amber), "Certes." Jean-Sebastien nods to Amber. Giraud says, "If you can find a place to tether them in the meantime, all the better." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(if you want to tie the horses, there's a convenient tree)" Amber says, "Better yet, here is a convenient tree." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Shall we all pitch in to shove Louis off of his?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "hee hee" Amber says, "I still think one of you should do the talking, though. My size does not exactly intimidate." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "the merchant is approaching the guards, so decide quickly" [early_musketeers] Amber says, "Amber has the small advantage." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(there are three guards, by the way)" Giraud asks, "Jean, you have a way with words. Lead on?" Jean-Sebastien nods, "Fair enough." Jean-Sebastien approaches the bridge quietly. Giraud follows, prepared to draw at a moment's notice. HeadGuy says (to Merchant), "and I say, if the tax isn't paid, you had best turn around and head back home. every merchant coming through will pay, if they know what's good for them" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Are we all going across leaving the horses tied up, or is Amber still staying with them?" [early_musketeers] HeadGuy says, "(or I suppose louis could hold them)" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien nods. "That works." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "good. leaving them might not be a good idea." Amber heads accross the bridge. Merchant says (to HeadGuy), "oh, very well. here's the tax. but i'll be complaining about it to the mayor, I assure you." Jean-Sebastien asks (of HeadGuy), "What is this about an extra tax?" HeadGuy asks, "eh?" HeadGuy turns around. HeadGuy says, "ah." HeadGuy says, "er." Jean-Sebastien says (to HeadGuy), "I'm sure the mayor would like to hear about it, very much so." HeadGuy glances sideways, at the two of his men, and then at you three. Jean-Sebastien asks, "For now, perhaps, you could return this man's money?" HeadGuy says, "certainly, certainly." HeadGuy hastily hands back the sol to the merchant, who makes his way quickly across. Jean-Sebastien says, "And now, I'd like you to come with us." HeadGuy exclaims, "er, of course, your lordship, just let me gather -- ah!" Jean-Sebastien says, "Preferably without trouble, although we could do it either way." HeadGuy looks to his left, and sees another three similarly-dressed men walking over, daggers at their belts. HeadGuy exclaims (at his men), "get them!" Jean-Sebastien draws his sword. HeadGuy back-pedals, himself. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says (to DaggerMen), "Mine's longer." Giraud draws. "I see it is to be the hard way. Amber unobtrusively sidles around to the opposite side of the 'tax-collector'. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "There are six of them, right?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "right" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Sounds fair." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Is this initiative time?" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Or is there still time to do stuff before it starts?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "I suppose two run with daggers at giraud, one at amber, and two at jean. the head guy is running off." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "yeah, let's roll panache" [7thsea] Jean-Sebastien rolls 4 dice: 4 1 10 7 [7thsea] Amber rolls 3 dice: 4 3 8 [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(I'll be rolling one for each group of the brutes)" [7thsea] Giraud rolls 3 dice: 4 3 8 [7thsea] Game_Master rolls 2 dice: 3 5 [7thsea] Game_Master rolls 2 dice: 10 10 [7thsea] Game_Master rolls 2 dice: 3 2 [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Whoops, hang on." [7thsea] Giraud rolls 2 dice: 8 1 [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Wrong character." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "heh" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Any of them brutes?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "they are all brutes, so one hit will take them down (TN=15), and you can take raises to dispatch two at once" [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says, "Very sorry to duck out like that, but I wasn't sure if I'd have time to play at all tonight..." [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe says, "Anyway, ride's here, must go." [early_musketeers] Louis-Phillipe waves. [early_musketeers] Game_Master says (to Louis), "'k. regular time is sundays, 1-4PST" Louis-Phillipe has disconnected. [early_musketeers] Amber says, "'sokay. you're holding the horses on the other side of the bridge." Jean-Sebastien swings at the two men charging him. [7thsea] Jean-Sebastien rolls 6k3: 10+8 9 2 7 2 3 | 34 Amber attacks the man coming at her. [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(go ahead and roleplay that)" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "also, sorry, that was phase 1" Jean-Sebastien slices deftly across, his blade marking a clear line from one man's chest to the other's sleeve. Game_Master says, "The men look surprised and collapse, one holding his chest, the other his arm." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Heck, I'm feeling frisky. I'll tag one of the guys headed for me." [early_musketeers] Game_Master asks, "phase 2?" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says (to GM), "Gir has a 1" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "(hang on, was away & am in phase 1)" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "oops, sorry" [7thsea] Giraud rolls 5k3: 3 10+5 9 7 10+3 | 37 [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien afks for a moment. Held if 4 comes around. [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "I'd say I tagged." [early_musketeers] Giraud asks, "RP?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "please" Giraud brandishes his sword, taking several steps towards one of his opponents. He aims a vicious thrust at his head...and pulls back his sword, his opponent's hat on the end of it. He deposits the hat in front of him. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien returns. Giraud says, "Always remove your hat before a gentleman." Game_Master says, "The scattered peasantry, having stepped away from the fight, applaud." [early_musketeers] Game_Master asks, "any other phase 1?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master asks, "phase 2, then?" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Works for me." [early_musketeers] Game_Master asks, "no 2? ok, 3?" [7thsea] Amber rolls 4k3: 8 8 8 5 | 24 [early_musketeers] Amber asks, "I'm attacking this loser with my sword - I assume I hit?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "yep" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "he's just a brute, so one hit -> disabled" Amber dodges one way and her sword swings another, as she slices through the muscles of his left leg. (From Game_Master) Brute [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "er" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Brute fall down, go boom." Game_Master says, "the brute says "I'd never have expected from a slip of a girl like that --" and also drops to the ground" [early_musketeers] Game_Master asks, "any other 3s, or should the remaining brutes go?" [early_musketeers] Amber says, "i'm also on 4." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "No threes from me." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "I'm done until 8." Game_Master says, "The brute whose hat was removed shouts "give me that!" and lunges forward with his dagger. His buddy follows somewhat less willingly." [7thsea] Game_Master rolls 4k2: 5 9 2 5 | 14 [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien read that as 'body'. [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "that probably doesn't hit you, huh? roleplay it either way" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(er, at giraud)" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Right. It misses." Giraud deftly steps to one side, the dagger missing with plenty of room to spare. "Tsk," he says. "I see your knife should have come with instructions." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "phase 4, then" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Is the head still in range?" Amber spins her follow-through into her next attack. [7thsea] Amber rolls 4k3: 2 8 2 7 | 17 [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "the head guy? he's run south towards some bushes and is kneeling by them - you could run over to him this phase" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(but then not also do anything this phase)" Jean-Sebastien turns from the two men on the ground and runs toward the bushes. [early_musketeers] Amber says, "they have TN 15" [early_musketeers] Amber asks, "?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "right" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Was that the one sans chapeau or the other?" Amber's sword slices neatly through the next man defense, and disarms the next brute. Game_Master says, "The brute says "she was too small! I couldn't see her!"" [early_musketeers] Game_Master asks, "so 5?" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "That's you, I think." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "nobody else? ok" Game_Master says, "the last man looks around at his comrades on the ground and at you folks still standing, and say "uh, I surrender"" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "It's a shame SF's not in this group." Game_Master says, "he drops his dagger" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "When you play his, *someone* has to tell him 'You fight like a dairy farmer.'" Game_Master says, "meanwhile, the head guy stands as Jean runs over -- he's holding a pistol" HeadGuy exclaims, "ha, not so close, pretty close!" [early_musketeers] HeadGuy says, "er, pretty *boy*" HeadGuy exclaims, "one more move and I pull the trigger!" Jean-Sebastien says (to Head), "It's over. You're outnumbered three to one." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "What's he aiming at?" [early_musketeers] HeadGuy says, "you, right now, although he's waving it around a bit wildly" [early_musketeers] Giraud asks, "What phase we in?" HeadGuy asks (of Jean), "yes, but I have a gun -- what are you going to do about it?" [early_musketeers] HeadGuy says, "um, new round, I guess. you and amber can get over as he's talking, or jean can take a quick action first" Jean-Sebastien says (to Head), "You have *a* gun. I have two. In the time it takes you to reload, I can take out both of your legs. You're not getting away." [early_musketeers] Giraud asks, "What was the deal with using an advanced knack you don't have?" [early_musketeers] HeadGuy says, "trait - 1 unkept" [early_musketeers] HeadGuy says, "err" [early_musketeers] HeadGuy says, "if you have the skill group" Amber sheaths her sword. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says (to Giraud), "If you have the skill it's from, it's -1 unkept die. If you don't, you can't use it." [early_musketeers] HeadGuy says, "what he said" [early_musketeers] Giraud asks, "Er, if I don't have the trait, though, how do you take off an unkept?" HeadGuy says, "well -- at least I'd have the satisfaction of taking you out" [early_musketeers] HeadGuy asks, "the trait? or the skill?" Jean-Sebastien says (to Head), "So if you want to be able to walk back to the guard house, you should drop your gun now." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "I have the knife skill, and am thinking of throwing my knife at him and using this lovely drama die I have from my tag." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "but no knife-throw knack." Amber sidles just out of head-guy's direct vision. [early_musketeers] HeadGuy says, "how about if we roll for this as an intimidation" [early_musketeers] HeadGuy says, "ok, that'd be finesse - 1, then" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "From me or from him? :)" [7thsea] Jean-Sebastien rolls 3k3: 6 8 10+2 | 26 [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "(That was Resolve)" [7thsea] HeadGuy rolls 2k2: 9 3 | 12 Giraud casually holds his knife point-first, in throwing position. He hopes. HeadGuy says, "uh.." HeadGuy starts backing away, then points the gun at Amber. "Well, I can still off her! Would you risk hurting a lady?" Amber quickly stoops down, picks up some dirt or debris, and throws it at head-guy. [early_musketeers] HeadGuy says (to Giraud), "ok, now you can throw" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Isn't Amber out of his line of sight?" [early_musketeers] HeadGuy asks, "er, sorry, is she?" [early_musketeers] HeadGuy says, "oops, yes" [early_musketeers] Giraud hangs on [early_musketeers] HeadGuy says, "well, I suppose he did it as she was sidling" [early_musketeers] HeadGuy says, "hmm, so" [early_musketeers] HeadGuy says, "I guess both giraud and amber should make rolls" [early_musketeers] HeadGuy says, "if they're both doing their thing" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Using my spiffy new drama die" [7thsea] Giraud rolls 3k3: 10+1 3 4 | 18 [early_musketeers] Amber asks, "is throwing finesse?" [early_musketeers] HeadGuy says, "yeah, finesse" [7thsea] Amber rolls 4k3: 2 10+3 9 2 | 24 [early_musketeers] HeadGuy says, "-1, though, unless -- oh, you have improvised weapon" [early_musketeers] HeadGuy says (to Giraud), "roll for damage for this one, he's a henchman" HeadGuy holds up his arm to ward off the dirt, exposing his chest just as the knife thunks into it. Jean-Sebastien, when the henchaman's distracted by the others, switches weapons. [7thsea] Giraud rolls 3k2: 1 7 5 | 12 [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Henchaman, the Vodacce henchman." [7thsea] HeadGuy rolls 2k2: 5 5 | 10 HeadGuy clutches his hand to his chest and collapses to the ground. Giraud says (to HeadGuy), "Thank goodness I had no need to soil my sword on you." Amber says (to Giraud), "Good work." Giraud says (to Amber), "Thank you for the timely distraction." Game_Master says, "the crowd, seeing the show appears to be over and it's getting dark, starts hesitantly crossing the bridge again" TableSaw arrives, looking for booty. Game_Master says (to TableSaw), "shoo, shoo, you're in sunday's game" Giraud cautiously walks over to the HeadGuy, then kicks the man's gun away before retrieving his knife. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien exclaims (at Gir), "Shhh!" [musketeers] TableSaw says, "Thanks foradvanced notice!" TableSaw disappears through an invisible gap in the MUD. You think you may have heard the sounds of chatting before the gap closed again. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Also, is Saw angry?" [musketeers] TableSaw ) [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Whoops, sorry." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Guess not." [musketeers] TableSaw:) Jean-Sebastien turns the man face down to tie his hands behind him. [musketeers] Game_Master says, "yeah, well, you should have gotten here at 5:30, man" [musketeers] Game_Master says, "so you're in the sundays 5-8 group, if that's workable" [early_musketeers] Giraud asks, "What condition is head man in?" [musketeers] Game_Master says (to Jean), "also, you see a sack in the bushes" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says (to Jean), "also, you see a sack in the bushes" [musketeers] Game_Master says, "(er, channel)" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says (to Giraud), "bleeding from the dagger wound, but alive" [early_musketeers] Amber asks, "anyone have first-aid?" Jean-Sebastien takes the sack, looking inside. Game_Master says, "it's a sack of soleis and pistoles" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Not I." Game_Master says, "plus a flask of some kind" Giraud calls out, "Does anyone have bandages for this man? [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "I don't." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Can I assume we have rope?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "in your saddlebags, I guess" PassingMan says, "I'm a herbalist -- I have some bandages in my pack" Jean-Sebastien says, "I'll be right back. I'm getting some rope to tie these men up." PassingMan says, "only a few pistoles each" Jean-Sebastien looks more closely at the flask as he crosses the bridge. [early_musketeers] PassingMan says (to Jean), "whiskey" [early_musketeers] PassingMan says, "no, I lie. wine." Giraud raises one eyebrow. "Surely you could spare a few to aid us, given how this man would have rooked you of your hard-earned money." PassingMan says, "fine, fine" PassingMan says, "here, let me do it" Giraud steps back to let the man work his trade. PassingMan grumbles, but bandages the man tightly. possibly a bit too tightly, but oh well. Giraud says, "Merci, Monsieur. You do good work." PassingMan says, "of course. now, if you will excuse me, I must get to the city before it is too dark to see." Jean-Sebastien ties the sack to his saddle, taking some rope and returning across the bridge. Amber says, "Thank you sir. We wouldn't want this man to expire of his injuries before we have an opportunity to ascertain exactly what he and his cohorts have been doing." Giraud says, "The fighting was not much, but ma foi! now we must transport them back to town." Jean-Sebastien passes out the rope. "Here, before they come to." Jean-Sebastien ties the leader's hands behind his back. Giraud takes some rope and begins binding the miscreants. Amber says, "I lack the shoulders to carry them. I can guard whilst you haul them accross, one at at time, if you wish." Game_Master says, "The miscreants that are still conscious grumble, but don't try and stop you." Giraud says (to Amber), "A fine suggestion." Jean-Sebastien says, "We can tie the ones who are awake to the horses. They can walk back." Jean-Sebastien attempts to wake the henchman, if possible. HeadGuy says, "err .. urgh" Jean-Sebastien says (to Henchman), "Right." Jean-Sebastien gets his sword out and pulls the man to his feet. HeadGuy stumbles to his feet. Giraud says (to HeadGuy), "Ah, back among us, I see." Jean-Sebastien keeps one hand on the man's arm and the other holding his own sword. "Across the bridge. March." Amber unsheaths her sword, and has it at the ready. HeadGuy also grumbles but goes along, the fight apparently all knocked out of him. Giraud also has his sword unsheathed. Giraud says, "Come along, everyone. There are some cells I'm sure you will find most agreeable." Jean-Sebastien ties him to the horses. To Louis-Phillippe, "Watch him. There are a few more fellows coming too." Jean-Sebastien helps Giraud round up the brutes. Giraud brings over a few more captives and ties them in a line. Game_Master says, "the brutes are rounded up, and tied to the horses" Amber says, "Commander Bron will be quite pleased with our first day of work." Giraud says, "Perhaps he will rant at these fellows for a time." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "hee hee" Jean-Sebastien grins, "Let us hope he has enough cells, else he may rant at us." Giraud says (to Jean), "I'm sure your room was spacious enough to hold a few more." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "And back to town we go, bantering all the way" Jean-Sebastien mounts. "Assuming I don't find other company this evening." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "afk" Jean-Sebastien sheaths his sword. Game_Master says, "You head back to town, and to headquarters." Jean-Sebastien says, "I'll take up the rear." And, for the benefit of the criminals, "That way, I can be ready with the pistol if they try anything."" Giraud assists Amber on her horse and likewise mounts. EntryGuard says, "prisoners, eh? Bron'll be pleased" Giraud asks (of Guard), "Where shall we take them?" EntryGuard rubs his chin. "Around back -- they've set up extra cells by the stables." Giraud says, "Near the stables? A fine place for them." EntryGuard says, "har har! indeed it is" [early_musketeers] Amber says, "back" EntryGuard asks (of Giraud), "and what did they do? robbing travellers, eh?" Giraud says, "They were collecting "taxes" on their own." Amber says, "Impersonating city tax-men." EntryGuard asks, "heh heh. well, they'll know better next time, eh? did you recover any of the money?" Amber says, "Some. Doubtless not all." Jean-Sebastien pats the sack. "We'll deliver it to the commander." EntryGuard says, "well, you'd better go in and give it to Jacques." Jean-Sebastien nods. Jean-Sebastien brings his horse into the stable. Giraud prods the new prisoners. "Come along. We'll see that the dung near your cells is of the freshest variety." Amber asks (of Jean), "(in a whisper) You already removed our 'commission', right?" EntryGuard says, "you others might want to leave your horses in the stables, too -- it'll be too crowded to ride them around the city soon" Game_Master says, "the prisoners are now silently glaring at the leader as they are prodded along and into the cells" Jean-Sebastien unties the sack, removing the bottle while he's out of sight of the entry guard. Game_Master says, "the cells appear to have been somewhat hastily constructed, in what's actually part of the (fairly large) stables, but should do to hold them" Jean-Sebastien answers Amber's question with a quick wave of the flask, before discretely stashing it. Giraud says, "Inside, everyone." Game_Master says, "another guard approaches Giraud, says "I'll take it from here", and leads the men away and into the cells." Giraud dismounts and sees to his horse. Game_Master says, "the keys jangle on his belt as he locks each one securely in." Game_Master says, "the stable boys take people's horses and starts giving them a brushdown and water and so on" Jean-Sebastien brings the sack out, waiting for the others before going in to see the commander. Giraud quickly catches up to Jean. Game_Master says, "Bron is out, but Jacques is in across the hall" Jean-Sebastien exclaims (at Jacques), "We return victorious!" Giraud says (to Jacques), "Be of good cheer: we have captured some miscreants." Jacques asks, "what is it now? oh dear oh dear -- that's not full of coins, is it?" Jacques asks, "wherever am I going to file them?" Jean-Sebastien says (to Jacques), "If that's a problem..." Jacques starts hunting frantically through the papers on his desk, and, that failing, opening and closing his drawers. Jean-Sebastien says, "I'm sure we can arrange to have them taken care of..." Jacques says (to Jean), "you seem to be attempting to be funny, young man" Jacques says, "ah, here" Jean-Sebastien says, "Not at all. Just offering to help distribute them to the merchants who were cheated." Jean-Sebastien hands the sack over. Jacques says, "Bron will take charge of it next morning. until then I will put it in his safe." Jacques walks across the hall and stashes the sack. Jacques says, "well, this was very good for your first day, I imagine" [early_musketeers] Giraud exclaims (at Jacques), "sack-stasher!" Giraud says, "If nothing else, I have gained a new hat." Jacques says, "now, if you will excuse me, I have some paperwork to attend to" Giraud says, "Of course." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "What time is it?" Jacques starts hunting around in the paperwork for his inkwell. Giraud turns to leave with the others. [early_musketeers] Jacques says, "it's getting on evening -- there's still time to do something if you like" [early_musketeers] Jacques says, "food, for instance" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Are we still on duty?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "well, you're always on duty, technically" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "in that you're expected to be wearing your tabards whenevr you're out and help people if needed and catch criminals and so on" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "but you're not really expected to try and hunt them out 24 hours a day" [early_musketeers] Giraud exclaims, "Tabard? I want a tankard!" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "a tank-top would be out of period" Jean-Sebastien asks, "Shall we to the marketplace?" Giraud says, "Certes. I find myself parched after the dusty road." Giraud leaves the building. Amber asks, "Is there a night-shift we're supposed to be on?" Game_Master says, "not unless instructed" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "for instance, guarding the bank has a night shift component" Amber says, "The let us to the local pub." Giraud says (as they walk out), "I understand that records are required in any township, but peste! that man is obsessed with paper." Jean-Sebastien, while they're walking, opens the flask to sniff at its contents. Game_Master says, "you travel back to the main street, passing by a juggler, actors performing a scene from a play -- Renaldo and Juliana (it's the big swordfight scene), a man selling exotic cheeses, etc" [early_musketeers] Giraud says (to GM), "A scene fit for Emily." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says (to Jean), "you've had much better, but it's eminently drinkable" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "indeed" Giraud exclaims, "Ah, the swordfighting scene!" Giraud says, "Were I less parched, I'd be tempted to stay." Jean-Sebastien says, "When we return to our rooms, I'll bring out the glasses and we can enjoy the rewards of a job well done." Amber says (to Jean), "The wine wasn't quite what I meant by 'commission', but it was probably safer." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien would suggest drinking it now, but swigging it from the bottle? [early_musketeers] Game_Master asks, "are you going to a tavern or to your rooms?" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "I'm up for taverning" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "but then, Giraud often is" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Me, I'm enjoying the walk and keeping an eye out for wrongdoing." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Which basically means following where everyone else is going." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "rooms sound good, both IC & OOC." Game_Master says, "you continue walking, passing by clothing-merchants, a blacksmith's shop, and so on" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "We can cash in on one of those free meals the landlady promised us." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "indeed" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "I'd forgotten." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "That'd be fine by me." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "so back to the room then? ok" Amber says, "It would be cold." Amber says, "She said dinners were always cold." Game_Master says, "you arrive eventually back at your rooms, and find, as promised, a supper laid out, meats and cheeses and rolls" Jean-Sebastien says, "The food is cold, but the fire is warm, at least." Game_Master says, "yes, they did kindle the fire, so the living room is nice and warm" Jean-Sebastien gets four wineglasses from his room and pours everyone a drink. [musketeers] Rob asks, "oh, there was a game already tonight?" [musketeers] Game_Master says, "s'almost over" Giraud pulls up a seat near the fire, munching on some food. [musketeers] Game_Master says, "but tune in sunday to see it again" [early_musketeers] Game_Master asks, "so are we calling it quits for tonight, or do you guys want to hit the streets again?" [musketeers] Rob asks, "see it again?" [early_musketeers] Amber says, "its midnight-ish here. I'm thinking bed." [musketeers] Game_Master says, "well, ok, it'll just be me seeing it again" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "I'll be hitting the streets again before bed, whether it's RP'ed or between sessions." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "I'm still good for a while" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "but if Amber needs to go, we can call it quits." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "hmm" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "(IC, I mean)" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "I guess with two -- well, ok" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "OOC, whatever works for everyone is fine with me." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "i don't need to go. I keep a pair of toothpicks handy. ;-)" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "heh" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "ok, let's do a bit more then" Jean-Sebastien exclaims, "To de la Fleur!" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(or, of course, Amber could go up to bed and Jean and Giraud could go out carousing)" Giraud raises a glass. "May we prove the company worthy of more than gibes." [musketeers] Rob reads recap, is absolutely shocked. [musketeers] Rob says, "channel" Game_Master says, "Louis joins in the toasts, but soon makes his excuses and heads to bed." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(and now?)" Jean-Sebastien says, "The bread's a bit still, but the cheeses were very good." Jean-Sebastien rises. "Should we go back out to see the nightlife?" Giraud stands and stretches. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "s/still/stale/" Giraud says, "Despite the long day, I find myself interested in seeing the festival night life." Jean-Sebastien says, "Indeed." Giraud asks (of Amber), "Would you like to come, or are you for bed?" [early_musketeers] Amber says, "okay, I lied. OOC, I'm for bed, so IC, I'm for bed, too." Amber says (to Giraud), "I think I'll call it an evening." [early_musketeers] Game_Master exclaims, "heh. 'k, night!" Jean-Sebastien bows, "Sleep well, m'lady." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "oh -- and 3xp for you three, 2xp for louis, and 1 extra drama die for giraud for behavior during fight" Amber exclaims, "Good night gentlemen. I'll see you in the morning, bright & early!" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Excellent." [early_musketeers] Amber exclaims, "yay!" [early_musketeers] Giraud exclaims, "Woo!" Giraud says (to Amber), "Enjoy your rest" [early_musketeers] Amber asks, "g'night, all. (My toothpicks broke. ;-) Next week, Sunday @ 3:00?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "yeah" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "3pm central, that is" [early_musketeers] Amber exclaims, "right. see you then - this was a tun-o-fun!" [early_musketeers] Giraud exclaims, "g'night!" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien waves, "See you then." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "night amber" Giraud says (to Jean), "It appears it is just us two, then." Jean-Sebastien says, "Let us see what the town offers, then." Giraud says, "Indeed." [early_musketeers] Game_Master asks, "so, looking for anything specific?" Giraud heads for the door. Jean-Sebastien says, "I hope there are fire performers." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "I'm interested in general sights, getting a feel for the town." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "High quality beads." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "And beads for my friend." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "But mainly, seeing the sights. Particularly the sights who are wearing low cut dresses." Game_Master says, "You go out and into the night." [early_musketeers] (from Jean-Sebastien) Game_Master says, "And are never heard from again." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "the merchants have mostly closed up shop for the evening, except for a few food vendors" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "and if there's a close-by tavern with carousing, I might be tempted." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "heh" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "there any any number of taverns, yes" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "also any number of low-cut dresses, many in conjunction with those self-same taverns" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "at least, so you judge from outside" [early_musketeers] (from Giraud) Game_Master says, "Outside the dresses, I mean." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Hee." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Inside the dresses, it's too dar-- no, I won't say it." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "so you have to stick to braille" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(do you want to go inside a tavern? or wander around more?)" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "there are also lots of entertainers to watch" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Wander first, tavern after?" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Works for me." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "ok, stop me if you want more detail on any of these" Game_Master says, "You wander around some, getting a feel for the city." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Also, watch for pickpockets and stuff. Y'know, we're always on duty, yadda yadda. :)" Game_Master says, "it turns out to be smaller than it felt at first -- it's clear that it swells enormously come festival time, and when the excess population goes away it's not very big" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "(Did most people *have* pockets back then?)" Game_Master says, "still, it's big enough to have a theater (advertising a new play opening in a week's time), various street performers (someone juggling fire, another one walking on his hands, another one balancing a pole on his nose and a bird's nest atop the pole), various street musicians (lute, flute, and harmony singers), and so on" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Aside from Vodacce with their concealed weapons, of course." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "hrm" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "I don't think pants pockets" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "but some kind of pocket, maybe" Jean-Sebastien stops to watch the fire juggler. [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "jacket pockets" Giraud pauses as well. FireJuggler exclaims, "and here we go -- one, two, three!" FireJuggler tosses two unlit torches and a lit one up in the air and starts juggling. FireJuggler manages to light first one torch and then the other with scarcely a pause. FireJuggler juggles the three torches for a while. FireJuggler exclaims, "now, under the leg!" FireJuggler exclaims, "behind the back!" FireJuggler exclaims, "on one leg!" FireJuggler finally grabs each torch, extinguishes them in his mouth, and bows. [early_musketeers] Giraud exclaims, "Onna stick!" Giraud applauds. FireJuggler approaches Giraud, bowing low again with cap extended. "A coin, sir, for my poor performance?" Jean-Sebastien applauds, and tosses a couple pistoles into the hat. Giraud also adds a few coins. Jean-Sebastien says, "Well done indeed." FireJuggler grins, and bows again to you both, then backs away to hit up other members of the crowd. Jean-Sebastien strolls on. Giraud hears one of the lute players and wanders over to him to listen. Jean-Sebastien follows Giraud. LutePlayer plays, not particularly well. LutePlayer says, "twangle twangle jangle plink" LutePlayer doesn't have much of an audience, until you two come along. LutePlayer asks, "ah, good sirs! any requests?" Giraud doesn't pause for long, but continues on, as if he paused at a passing thought. LutePlayer sighs, and goes back to playing for the moving crowds. Jean-Sebastien asks, "Do you know 'Mon Frere, Brien'?" LutePlayer thinks. LutePlayer says, "I don't believe so, sir. But perhaps if you hummed a few bars, I could fake it." Jean-Sebastien begins singing softly. LutePlayer plays along as best he can, managing more or less to keep up. Jean-Sebastien smiles and sings a bit more loudly, to cover u-- er, to complement the music. LutePlayer exclaims, "oh, very good sir!" [7thsea] Jean-Sebastien rolls 5k4: 2 10+10+2 9 9 4 | 44 [7thsea] Jean-Sebastien says, "(Panache + Singing)" [early_musketeers] LutePlayer says, "not bad" Game_Master says, "a few passing crowdsfolk toss some pistoles at Jean's feet" Giraud exclaims (at Jean), "I am impressed!" Jean-Sebastien grins, "Thank you. Very well played." He leaves the coins for the lute player and continues on after Giraud. Giraud says (to Jean), "I did not realize what a fine voice you had." Jean-Sebastien says (to Giraud), "It is the wine. It relaxes the vocal chords." Game_Master says, "the lute player waves enthusiastically as you head off, only stopping to pick up the coins" Giraud notices a nearby tavern, well populated. "Shall we stop in for a drink and some company?" Jean-Sebastien says, "A wonderful idea." Giraud enters and looks around. Game_Master says, "it's a pretty classic tavern -- fireplace, various tables arranged around, some guys gambling or talking off in one corner, some other smaller parties arranged around, a waitress bustling around, a guy behind the bar talking to a pretty girl" Game_Master says, "a staircase leading upstairs to some rooms, presumably" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Behind the bar or at the bar?" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "(I mean, is he with her, or is he just a bartender?)" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "the girl is at the bar, talking across it to the bartender" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien nods, "Excellent." Giraud says (to Jean, softly), "I suppose you'll have us at the bar for a bit?" Jean-Sebastien sidles over to the bar. Giraud says, "I had to ask." Jean-Sebastien grins to Giraud as he sidles. Girl says (to bartender), "yes, it's so difficult being new in the festival -- I don't know *anyone*" Jean-Sebastien says (to Bartender), "Two glasses of your finest red wine, please." Jean-Sebastien looks faintly worried. Bartender says, "very good, sir" Giraud says (to Jean), "You *are* in a good mood tonight." Bartender steps into the back room for a bit to fetch the bottle. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Is Giraud following me, or across the room?" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "I have joined you, not quite sidling." Girl glances around the room idly. Jean-Sebastien says (to Girl), "I'm new to the festival as well. It seems quite ane xciting place, though." Girl says, "oh! I had not noticed you, sir" Girl asks, "my apologies -- did you want to sit down?" Jean-Sebastien gives Giraud a bit of a look before continuing his conversation. [early_musketeers] Giraud asks, "Is that a 'back me up' look or a 'get the hell out of my way' look?" Jean-Sebastien says (to Girl), "Ah, thank you. The name is Jean-Sebastien, and my friend here is Gi-- just leaving, I fear." [early_musketeers] Girl says, "snrk" Jean-Sebastien sits beside the lady. Giraud bows. "But of course. I merely came here for a drink." [musketeers] Rob says, "just for reference, how do you get to the 7th sea room, and so forth" Giraud mutters (to Jean), "I'll just watch you embarass yourself from across the room, then," and moves away. [musketeers] Rob asks, "?" [musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "'theah'." [musketeers] Rob asks, "yeah?" Girl says, "pleased to mean you ... I am Cosette" [musketeers] Girl says, "or 'walk the plank'" [musketeers] Rob says, "thankeah" [musketeers] Rob asks, "Girl?" [musketeers] Game_Master says, "er, me" [musketeers] Rob says, "heh" [musketeers] Game_Master says, "incognito, don't you know" Giraud places an order for a bottle of wine, then moves away, listening to conversations. [musketeers] Rob says, "sh, no spoilers" Jean-Sebastien bows. "A lovely name for a lovely voice to speak, Cosette." [musketeers] Rob says, "now I know there's a girl in it!" Bartender bustles out from the back room, bottle in hand. [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Whoops, bartender not there for my order. :)" Bartender sees that Cosette is occupied, and discreetly pours the wine and then serves Giraud. Giraud thanks the bartender and wanders about the room, listening. [early_musketeers] Giraud asks, "Do I hear anything interesting?" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "I assume the bartender figured out that one of the two glasses was Cosette's, not Giraud's? :)" [early_musketeers] Bartender says, "(so he gathered)" [early_musketeers] Bartender says, "there are a couple groups of people, let's see" Jean-Sebastien asks, "Have you been in town long?" Game_Master says, "most groups are apparently talking about the festival, of course" Cosette says, "oh, *no*. I just got in yesterday morning." Game_Master says, "one group is laughing uproariously at one of the people, who appears to be telling jokes or something" Game_Master says, "another, more serious, group is bent over a table" Game_Master says, "probably gambling" Jean-Sebastien nods, "And all alone? It must have been lonely." Game_Master says, "a few couples are talking quietly" Jean-Sebastien sips his wine. [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "I'll listen in on the joke-teller." Game_Master says, "but this isn't a terribly romantic place in general" Cosette says, "yes, I'm all alone in the world, it's very sad. I'm an orphan, you know." Jean-Sebastien says, "That's terrible. It must have been very hard, growing up without a family. You must have been very strong to manage it." Game_Master says, "mostly they're ethnic jokes -- "how many Dechainese does it take to get a fire lit", that kind of thing" Cosette says, "oh, yes, well, I was only an orphan recently -- my father was killed in the war" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Three. One to light the match, and two to toss him in the fireplace when his moustache catches on fire." Cosette says, "he taught me to play the pipes -- I travel around from festival to festival trying to support myself" [early_musketeers] Cosette says, "hee hee" Cosette says, "but it does get lonely sometimes" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "To be honest, I'm getting tireder and tireder." Cosette asks (of Jean), "do you ever get lonely?" [early_musketeers] Cosette says, "yeah, it's late" [early_musketeers] Cosette says, "hrm" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "I may fold up shop on the assumption that I have a few drinks and head back to my room." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "if that's okay" [early_musketeers] Cosette says, "yeah, sure" Jean-Sebastien sighs. "Alas, at times I do. I was an only child, growing up in the country. I had to travel far to find other children my own age." [early_musketeers] Cosette says, "about ten minutes to close here, anyway" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Feel free to assume a fade to black on Jean and Cosette when you need to." [early_musketeers] Cosette says, "er, running out of stuff for this act, I mean" Jean-Sebastien says, "I'd love to hear you play some time. I do sing a bit, myself..." Cosette says, "yes, I --" Game_Master says, ""JEAN!"" Game_Master says, ""I can't believe it's you!"" Jean-Sebastien looks around. OtherWoman hurries over to the bar. OtherWoman asks, "Jean, *darling*! Don't you remember me?" Jean-Sebastien says, "Ah, oh, Marisse..." Giraud suddenly notices a commotion by the bar. Jean-Sebastien says, "Yes, I, uh..." OtherWoman asks, "come, darling, aren't you pleased to see me? after all those nights?" Jean-Sebastien smiles. "It's very nice to see you again, Marisse. It's a shame that Cosette and I were just leaving..." Jean-Sebastien says (to Bartender), "Please, bring Marisse a glass of wine, on me..." Cosette is firmly talking to another patron. [early_musketeers] (from Giraud) Jean-Sebastien says, "And napkin with which I shall wipe the egg from my face." Marisse says (to Bartender), "and another for Jean, of course -- we have *so much* catching up to do" Jean-Sebastien leaves a sol on the bar and -- is slightly disappointed that Cosette has turned around. Giraud wanders up. "Ah, Jean, there you are. I fear we've new orders and must return at once." Giraud notices Marisse and takes off his hat. "M'lady." Marisse exclaims, "a *musketeer*? how *romantic*!!" Jean-Sebastien says (to Giraud), "Oh? Ah. How unfortunate." Jean-Sebastien says (to Marisse), "I'm so sorry, my dear. I do hope that we find the opportunity to run into each other again at some point..." Giraud says (to Jean), "I knew you would be disappointed, but orders are orders." Jean-Sebastien goes with Giraud. Marisse sighs. "Well -- I'm sure we'll run into each other again sometime! Au revoir!" Marisse waves her handkerchief. Jean-Sebastien exclaims, "Au revoir!" Jean-Sebastien ducks out into the street. [early_musketeers] Game_Master asks, "ok, shall we wind down here?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master asks, "or is there anything else quick?" Giraud says (to Marisse), "And a good night to you, mmelle." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Sure." Giraud follows Jean [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "That's it for me." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "alrighty, then that's a wrap" Jean-Sebastien sighs. Giraud says (to Jean), "You seemed in some discomfort there towards the end." Jean-Sebastien says, "Well, Marisse is a very nice woman. But she just doesn't seem to be able to move on with her life." Giraud says, "Tsk. Better luck next evening, I suppose." Jean-Sebastien says, "It's a shame, really. What we had together was so very special; I wish she'd realize that to try to relive it would only tarnish the memory." Giraud says, "I'm sure." Jean-Sebastien nods, "Oui, perhaps tomorrow." Giraud says, "And now, pardieu, but I am more tired than I thought." Giraud says, "I believe I will return to our lodgings for the night." Jean-Sebastien says, "I shall see you in the morning, then." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "and a drama die for jean -- that was most adroit" Giraud nods and heads for his bed. [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "yay" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Assume another half-hearted attempt or two before returning to the room." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Also, yay." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(also, amusing)" Game_Master says, "[end of act I]" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Man, no one was ever in danger, so no chance to use my virtue." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien exclaims (at Giraud), "WHat do you mean? You saved my life right there!" [early_musketeers] Giraud laughs. [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "hee hee" [early_musketeers] inky has joined the channel. [late_musketeers] inky has joined the channel. [early_musketeers] Giraud says (to inky), "Well done. Fun fun fun." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says (to inky), "You missed a great game." [early_musketeers] inky asks, "wait, was Game_Master just here? you mean I missed him again?" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "heh" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "okay, I'm turning in" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "'night, everyone." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "night" Giraud has disconnected. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien waves to Giraud. Game_Master says, "(and this too)" Game_Master says, "mm" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "BTW, what was the XP for this one again?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "3xp, +1 drama die" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Nifty. Does the die affect XP?" [early_musketeers] NewsBoy hollers, "Extra! Extra! Game_Master has posted message 1, about 'xp', to the bulletin board! When you're hanging from your toenails in the darkest pits of hell, everything looks umop apisdn." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "yeah, it's 1 xp" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Cool. Excellent game." Game_Master has disconnected.
