[early_musketeers] PerrySimm says, "Log on." Amber says, "'allo." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "sorry I'm late." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "one moment. finishing dinner" Jean-Sebastien says (to Amber), "Good day." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "So. Looks like someone killed of le jerk..." [early_musketeers] Amber asks, "eh? what did i miss?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master asks (of Amber), "is lucian there? did he want to play?" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks (of Amber), "Weren't you there last time?" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien | Bron says, "you are all under arrest" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien | Bron says, "for robbery, for theft, for attempted murder, and for betrayal of the code of the musketeers" [early_musketeers] Amber says, "yes, lucian wants to play." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "andso does ellric, who keeps hitting keys." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "hee hee" [early_musketeers] Game_Master asks, "ok, um, maybe he can connect so I can whisper to him?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(or were you guys going to take turns typing or?)" Cadiz walks the plank to adventure. Arr! Cadiz arrives, looking for booty. [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(but 1 sec)" [7thsea] Kestrel says, "There we go." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Oh my." [early_musketeers] Kestrel has joined the channel. [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Here I am" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "alrighty" [early_musketeers] Amber says, "ok, he's gone. now we can talk about him behind his back." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Quick request: I'd like to spend my xp on lip reading from 0 to 2 and swinging from 0 to 1" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "sure" [early_musketeers] Game_Master asks, "Jean recapped the situation pretty well - so what's the plan?" Bron exclaims, "well? drop your swords and surrender to l'Empereur's justice!" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "(er, make that lip reading to 1)" Jean-Sebastien keeps his hands on his reigns, well away from his weapons, and in clear view. Giraud makes sure not to make any sudden moves. "I see someone else's reputation has proceeded us *again*. Jean-Sebastien says, "I must admit to some degree of confusion." Bron sneers. "I see my initial impression of le Fleur was completely correct -- liars as well as robbers" Amber exclaims, "What is the meaning of this outrage?! We are loyal musketeers!" Bron says, "as you know very well, the bank was robbed not two days ago" Giraud quirks an eyebrow. Jean-Sebastien says, "Commander, we were not in town two days ago." Bron says (to other musketeers), "tie their hands." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "What town were we ing?" [early_musketeers] Bron says, "font-arrant. this is rayure." Amber says, "An we were assisting Celeste in the matter of her inheritance, *as you requested*." Jean-Sebastien says, "As I'm sure the citizens of Font-Arrant would be happy to attest." Amber says, "Especially Celeste." Bron raises an eyebrow of his own. "Odd, then, that you sent in your report as to the conclusion of your mission and took up bank-guarding duty already!" [early_musketeers] Bron says, "(are you resisting arrest here or going along with hands-tying and disarming?)" Jean-Sebastien says, "Report? Surely you would have seen us if we had returned from Font-Arrant already." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "I'm for going along with the hand-tying and the disarming and the slandering" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "for now" [early_musketeers] Bron says, "(heh heh)" Amber says, "Odd, indeed, commander. I, too, would like to get to the bottom of this." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "delaying." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Going along with it for my part, but keeping my hands comfortably in front of me when tied, etc. (unless they force the issue)." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "But not fighting back." Bron frowns. "I was indeed displeased that you chose to send a written report rather than arrive in person as requested -- no doubt you were too busy plotting to show your faces" [early_musketeers] Giraud asks, "Any chance my knife could, ah, find a comfortable hiding place in one of my sleeves?" Bron exclaims, "but I have no time for this -- no doubt a day or two in jail will loosen your tongues a bit!" Jean-Sebastien says, "With the except of Amber, we are in no habit of missing meetings, sir." [early_musketeers] Bron says (to Giraud), "hmm, possibly. it'd be conceal + wits, I guess" Giraud says, "Nor are we in the habit of writing reports when the reports would be unlikely to reach here ahead of us." Amber asks (of Jean), "What are you talking about?" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "No conceal, so never mind." Bron says (to other musketeers), "put them in the back cells -- I will attend later" Bron turns to ride off. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks (of Amber), "You forget oversleeping and missing the meeting where we were first told about bank duty?" Amber says (to Bron), "I object to being summarily accused, tried and sentanced, all without any semblance of a trial! We have done nothing wrong." Giraud says, "I look forward to hearing the details of what we did not do." Jean-Sebastien says, "I as well. I imagine that once the details are made more apparent, our innocence will be obvious." Bron says (to Amber), "justice will of course be served -- once the festival is over and I have full time to attend." Bron does indeed ride off. [early_musketeers] Game_Master asks, "should I cut to a jail cell next? folks want to do something?" [early_musketeers] Amber says, "cut to jail cel." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Agreed." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "l." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien nods. Dana has connected. [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "alrighty" [early_musketeers] Giraud flips through the jail cel and goes on to more pleasant parts of the cartoon. [early_musketeers] Amber (to Giraud) -b::: Game_Master says, "your swords and pistols are taken and your musketeer's tabards removed, but none of your other possessions are impounded" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks (of Giraud), "Did you notice that in the chase scene, they just used one city background, and just kept repeating it?" Game_Master says, "the cell is on a lower floor of the stables -- probably used for storage, since a lower floor isn't much use in a stable" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "hee hee hee" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "We must have passed that sausage vendor a dozen times." Game_Master says, "but the bars and things, while improvised, seem fairly strong" Jean-Sebastien attempts to wriggle out of his ropes, hoping his wrists were tied loosely. Game_Master says, "you're all placed in the same cell (even Louis-Phillipe), and there are two guards outside, sitting in chairs and looking bored" [early_musketeers] Giraud asks, "Are we tied? Or free to pace about?" Game_Master says, "(and yeah, your wrists are untied when you're thrown in)" Amber is seething. Giraud rubs his wrists and examines the confines of the cell. Jean-Sebastien says, "Well. I wonder how long we're to be kept here." Jean-Sebastien looks around, juding the 'room' for comfort. Game_Master says, "the cell is a converted room, like I said, perhaps for storage" Game_Master says, "there's a typical cell door with bars in the doorway, fairly securely fastened in" Game_Master says, "(despite being improvised)" Game_Master says, "there's a window high (like, six-ish feet) up -- probably, since this is the lower floor, it's at ground level outside" Game_Master says, "four cots, a toilet pot" Jean-Sebastien says (in the hearing of the guards), "It looks like this could grow boring quickly, inside or outside..." Giraud asks (of Amber), "Care for a closer look at that window?" Guard crosses and uncrosses his legs, and leans back in his chair. Jean-Sebastien says, "Did anyone bring playing cards? If there were six of us, we could play Fleur de Mar..." Guard, by the way, is sitting at the opposite end of the hall with the other guard. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Are the guards in ready earshot of us?" [early_musketeers] Guard says, "yeah" [early_musketeers] Guard says, "it seemed like they may have heard you, or maybe not." Jean-Sebastien starts singing quietly -- the Lament of the Trapped Songbird. Game_Master says, "there are nervous footsteps on the stairs" [7thsea] Jean-Sebastien rolls 5k4: 8 4 3 9 5 | 26 [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Can we see the stairs?" Giraud holds up a hand. "Hsst!" Game_Master says, "the guards glance towards the cell for a minute, listening to the song, then their attention is drawn back as Jacques emerges from the stairs." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(you can see like the bottom step or two)" Jean-Sebastien quiets as Jacques emerges. Jacques comes over to the cell, obviously attempting to wring his hands and carry some loaves of bread at the same time Jacques says, "oh dear, oh dear" Jean-Sebastien says, "Ah, friend Jacques." Amber asks (of Jacques), "Yes?" Giraud says, "Hello, Jacques. Pity we cannot play host for you today." Jean-Sebastien says, "Would that we could offer you our hospitality, but..." Jacques says, "oh, that such a thing should happen -- and you seemed so very nice" Jacques says, "well, er, I'd better give you these" Jacques hands the bread and a wineskin or two in through the bars. Jean-Sebastien says (quietly, to Jacques), "Could you... could you tell us what it is that we have been placed here for?" Jean-Sebastien tries to look as sympathetic a character as he can. Jacques glances over at the guards, who seem to have become engrossed in a card game again. Jacques whispers "Oh, dear! Haven't you heard? The bank!" Jacques exclaims, "and poor Francis!" Giraud says, "Commander Bron made vague accusations when we arrived back in town, but gave few details." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Was Francis le jerk?" [early_musketeers] Jacques says, "(yes)" Giraud asks, "What happened with Francis?" Jacques exclaims, "on his deathbed!" Jacques says, "we found him the morning after the bank was robbing, bleeding in the alley" Jean-Sebastien exclaims, "How could that be? He was a musketeer!" Jacques says (to Jean), "you must admit, that suggests none but a fellow musketeer could have defeated him --" Jean-Sebastien says (to Jacques), "But no musketeer would stoop so low as to--" Giraud says, "a fellow musketeer or several determined men" Jean-Sebastien gasps. "No! You don't mean... Command Bron believes that...?" Jean-Sebastien looks down at the floor, incredulous. Jacques says, "and, I must add, he was murmuring "Giraud .. non .. Giraud ..."" Giraud says, "My." Jacques shrugs his shoulders and looks helplessly. "That, and the bank's vault open, all the wealth from the festival taxes taken --" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Clearly a plea for aid from the good ol' de la Fleur." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Er. du le Fleur?" [early_musketeers] Jacques says, "the former, I think" [early_musketeers] Jacques says, "I don't speak french, of course" Jean-Sebastien says, "Commander Bron said that someone had turned in a report saying that we'd return early from Font-Arrant." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Or Montaigne. You just play one in 7th Sea." Jacques says, "yes, yes -- he was most upset you did not report in person" Jean-Sebastien asks, "If there was such a report, it would have passed through your hands, no?" Jacques thinks. Jacques says, "it was delivered by messenger, with your apologies, I believe" Amber has disconnected. Amber has connected. [early_musketeers] Amber says, "Switching to a bigger window/font." Jean-Sebastien says, "If we could somehow find out who sent that message..." Giraud says, "and get corroboration of our itenerary from someone" Jacques exclaims, "but wait -- I spoke to you myself, when you stood at the bank!" Giraud asks, "I beg your pardon?" Jean-Sebastien says (to Giraud), "Mmm. Although it seems to me more important to find the *real* culprits and recover the town's money than just to clear our names." Jean-Sebastien asks (of Jacques), "What?" Giraud says (to Jean), "(I doubt we will be allowed to assist without some alibi.)" Jacques says, "I was passing by that evening, as I left work" Jacques says, "I said "fine evening, sir!" and you said "it is indeed!"" Jean-Sebastien looks mightily confused. Jean-Sebastien asks, "Er, which of us is it you remember hearing?" Giraud asks, "Which 'you' are you referring to?" Jacques says (to Giraud), "why, you, sir" Jacques asks, "you don't remember?" Jean-Sebastien peers curiously at Giraud. Giraud says, "I certainly do not." Giraud says, "as I was out of town at the time." Giraud says, "and in sight of my fellow musketeers." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Right. So when was Giraud separated from the rest of the group..." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien exclaims, "Aha, it must have been while we was wandering around in the forest, when we were rounding up the bandits!" [early_musketeers] Amber asks, "Didn't we bring a bandit dude with us?" [early_musketeers] Giraud exclaims, "Zounds! You have found me out!" [early_musketeers] Giraud removes his seven-league boots. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says (to Amber), "I *think* we must have left him for the magistrate, although I can't remember for certain." Jean-Sebastien asks (of Jacques), "Do you think it would be possible to send a message to Font-Arrant?" Jacques scratches his head again "I could try, sir. Whyever for?" Jean-Sebastien says, "To confirm where we were when this robbery was taking place." [early_musketeers] Jacques says, "(I assumed you'd left him, yeah -- there seemed to be some confusion on this point at the time)" Amber says, "There are several people inthe town who could attest to our innocence." Jean-Sebastien says, "Celeste and her fiance, Oliver... Lorenz, the town's civic leader..." Jacques thinks. "Because you were there at the same time you were here?" Amber says, "Exactamundo." Jean-Sebastien says, "Colin... many people saw us there." Jean-Sebastien says (to Jacques), "The matter is, we cannot have been both there and here at the same time." Jacques says (to Jean), "aha! very clever, sir" Jacques says, "I will do my best" Jacques says, "and now, er, perhaps I had better get back to my duties" Amber says, "Our thanks." Jean-Sebastien nods, "Ah, many thanks." Jacques wrings his hands a final time, perhaps for luck, and then nervously trots back up the stairs, past the guards. Jean-Sebastien passes out the loaves. Amber examines the window surropticiously. Jean-Sebastien says, "Perhaps we could pursuade the guards to join us in the wine. As a friendly gesture." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(time is inclined to hang rather heavy on one's hands when in jail, so if you want to skip ahead to some specific event (nighttime, dinner time, jacques, tomorrow morning) at any point lemme know)" Jean-Sebastien eyes the wineskins, wondering if there would be enough. Game_Master says, "the window is maybe six or eight inches high, more for ventilation than anything else" Game_Master says, "if there weren't bars, escaping might be possible for Amber" Game_Master says, "the wineskins aren't really that full as it is" Game_Master says, "but you could offer" Amber helps herself to bread and wine. Giraud says, "Hm. Jacques is not the swiftest of thought." Amber examines the bars. Giraud says, "Also, I am surprised that Francis would remember my name well enough to remember it after having been beaten senseless." Jean-Sebastien says, "True, but given a choice of hard of heart and of mind, I'd prefer his sort any day." Jean-Sebastien breaks bread. Amber says, "Francis could be in on it." Giraud says (to Amber), "So I might suspect." Jean-Sebastien asks, "Did Jacques mention anything about who found him? Or for that matter, who's seen him since?" Amber says (to Giraud), "Though someone is known to have impersonated you." Giraud says, "unless whomever beat him up said, 'Hello, I am Giraud' and then proceeded to thrash him, all the while saying, 'Remember, my name is Giraud!'" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(hee hee)" Jean-Sebastien clears his throat. Amber laughs. Amber says, "Or maybe he was wearing a nametag." Jean-Sebastien says (in his best impersonation of Giraud), "Indeed it is!" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "(Is that Wits + Acting or Panache?)" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "I think all acting stuff is panache-related" [7thsea] Jean-Sebastien rolls roll 5k4: Arr. [early_musketeers] Kestrel says, "Wits plus panache? I think not." [7thsea] Jean-Sebastien rolls 5k4: 3 3 5 3 7 | 18 Jean-Sebastien coughs a bit. Giraud says, "I suppose I should be honored to have been singled out." [early_musketeers] Kestrel says (to Game), "I believe it's left up to you, as the situation warrants." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(well, it's not bad, but it doesn't sound that much like giraud to you three)" Giraud says, "though I had no idea I'd made such enemies in the town." Jean-Sebastien says, "Hrm. Well, I suppose it could be done, but it would require some modicum of talent to be genuinely effective." Giraud says (to Jean), "A good try, nonetheless." Jean-Sebastien says, "Although, I do wonder how well Jacques would know your voice." Jean-Sebastien says (to Giraud), "Thank you." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "I guess I'm OK to FF until 'something happens'." Giraud says, "Well, if we are not to play cards, and our liberty seems unlikely to return in the near future, I believe I will nap." (From Game_Master) Time passes ... Jean-Sebastien looks to the cot nearest the window, if it's not taken yet, and steps on it to watch outside the window. Game_Master says, "there's some commotion from the stairs" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "(Just to pass the time, that is)" Game_Master says, "guards bringing somebody else down, looks like" Jean-Sebastien steps down off the cot, quietly. Guard says, "no room up here -- he'll have to go downstairs" OtherGuard comes closer down the hall. OtherGuard asks, "with those four? after how they treated Francis?" Jean-Sebastien looks hurt. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "There must be few things worse, for a criminal, to get thrown in jail..." Guard says, "bah, like I care what happens to him -- no doubt he'll be beaten when he's convicted, just the same" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "And then find out that your four cellmates are all cops." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Yeah, but we're baaaad cops." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "loose cannons and all that" Guard opens the door to the cell and forces a fifth man in, who staggers forward. Guard slams the cell door and relocks it. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "And this somehow makes it *better* for him?" Giraud wakes, mumbling, "Non, non, just the crepes, please." Jean-Sebastien says (to OtherMan), "Welcome." Kestrel says, "Ow." Jean-Sebastien says, "Our home, as it may be, is your home." Kestrel rubs his head. Kestrel says, "Seems so." Kestrel asks, "So, were they polite enough to tell you what *you* were in for?" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Should we grill him like an NPC?" Jean-Sebastien shrugs, "To a degree. But mostly not." Giraud says, "Only in vague terms." Kestrel sizes up the lot of you. [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Except for Amber, of whom there is not a lot" Kestrel says, "Well, I guess I can't claim it's because of my ancestry, then." [early_musketeers] Kestrel says, "Heh." Jean-Sebastien, seeing himself sized up, bows with a flourish. Jean-Sebastien says, "Jean-Sebastien du Mont. These are Giraud Perrin, Louis-Phillipe Boileau du Toille, and Amber (whose last name escapes me at the moment)." Kestrel says, "Nonetheless, I believe I am here solely due to me being a Fhideli." Kestrel says, "Pleased, I'm sure. They call me Kestrel." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Whazza Fhideli? Sounds Crescent." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Anti-sorcery, pro-prophets extremists?" [early_musketeers] Kestrel says, "Gypsy." [early_musketeers] Kestrel says, "Often Ussura-based." Jean-Sebastien says, "Welcome, Kestrel." [early_musketeers] Game_Master asks, "are they actually called gypsies on theah?" [early_musketeers] Kestrel says, "No, Fhideli." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(grf)" [early_musketeers] Kestrel says, "Er, or the other term." [early_musketeers] Kestrel looks it up. Jean-Sebastien asks, "Are you in town for the festical?" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "That's presumably when you make a spectacle of yourselve at the festival." [early_musketeers] Kestrel says, "Ah, there we go. Yeah, they call themselves Tibesti, others call them Fhideli." Kestrel says, "Yes. I am a performer of sorts, and I had a few items to trade." Kestrel says, "I hadn't been able to sell many items, though people did seem to like my singing." Jean-Sebastien says, "Oh, you sing? Hmm..." Giraud says, "Singing they don't have to pay for unless they like it." Jean-Sebastien asks, "Do you know, 'The Duel of Seranade'?" Game_Master says, "(it begins to move towards dinner time, feels like)" Kestrel eyes light up. Kestrel sings the opening lines. Jean-Sebastien jumps in on the harmony. Amber applauds the duo. Guard exclaims, "knock off that racket, there!" Amber exclaims, "Pike off!" Jean-Sebastien coughs, smirking. Giraud exclaims, "Very good, very good!" Jean-Sebastien says, "Perhaps they don't have an appreciation for the finer arts." Kestrel smiles. "It gets my by. Giraud asks (of Kestrel), "So they did not tell you why they were locking you up?" Guard curses and goes back to his card-playing, and is shortly replaced along with his buddy by another set of guards. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "And another set of cards?" Kestrel says, "No, probably horse-thieving. I had themisfortune to camp next to a group of unsavory individuals." Kestrel says, "Maybe they've pinned the blame on me." [early_musketeers] Guard says, "(these ones have dice)" Amber is in a sour modd. Amber says, "Like a donkey, were you? Getting the taile pinnede on." Kestrel groans appreciatiuvely. Kestrel asks, "So what are you in for?" Giraud says, "Bank robbery." Amber says, "Mistaken identity, it seems." Giraud says, "Though we too are not guilty." Jacques's footsteps are eventually heard on the stairs once more. Jean-Sebastien says, "We had the misfortune to rob the bank while we happened to be out of town." Guard asks, "feedin' 'em again, eh?" Amber points to giraud. "His, specifcally. Some thug with a name tag reading "Giraud" beat this poor kid up. Jacques says, "oh dear oh dear" Jean-Sebastien asks (of Jacques), "Ah, friend Jacques! What good news have you?" Jacques wanders on to the cell door. Jacques winces. Jacques asks, "I am afraid I have failed you, sirs -- and madam -- and, er, you sir?" Jacques stares at Kestrel. "Are we acquainted?" Amber says, "Jacques, meet Kestrel. Kestrel, Jacues." Amber says, "now you ware." Jacques says, "well, I suppose" Giraud asks (of jacques), "What happened?" [early_musketeers] Amber says, "sesquapedilicious fingers - can't type." Jacques glances somewhat suspiciously at Kestrel, but keeps talking. Jacques says, "I am afraid Bron absolutely refused to send a messenger to Font-Arrant -- he said he'd known all along you weren't worth bothering with" Jacques frets more. Amber has some more bread and wine. Jacques says, "and I can't go myself" Jean-Sebastien frowns. Jacques says, "oh yes, I did bring cheese, at least" Jacques hands over cheese along with the bread and wine, and some grapes. Amber says, "Thank you Jacques. You are the soul of hospitality." Giraud says, "Bah. I had not liked Bron's manner; now I find his sense of duty and justice flawed as well." Giraud says (to Jacques), "Ah, well. Many thanks for your attempt." Jean-Sebastien asks (of Jacques), "Would it be possible to hire a messenger?" Jacques asks, "the whole day's journey?" Jacques scratches his head. Jean-Sebastien finds a few sol in his purse, and offers them to Jacques. Jacques says, "oh, I don't know -- hrm" Jean-Sebastien finds a few more, if necessary. Jacques waves his hands disconsolately. Guard exclaims, "that's enough, there! no need to talk to them!" Jacques says, "oh dear, I'd better go ---" Jacques's voice drops to a whisper. "I'll be back later!" Jacques hurries off again. Jean-Sebastien exclaims (at Jacques), "Be well!" Kestrel asks, "Isn't that man associated with the musketeers?" Jean-Sebastien sighs. Jean-Sebastien says (to Kestrel), "That he is." Giraud says (to Kestrel), "Yes." Amber asks, "Why do you ask?" Kestrel says, "Well it must be nice to have a friend that high up, even if he can't do anything." Amber asks, "What do you mean?" Jean-Sebastien chuckles. "It would be, if we didn't have an apparent enemy one step higher." Jacques says, "it's grown actually dark out now, with the waning moon shining in the window" Kestrel asks, "So who is this Brom fellow?" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Speaking of the window, where does it look out on?" Amber says, "He's our commander. But an idiot." Jacques says, "the guards are replaced by a single guard, who takes up his station midway along the hall, and is soon leaning back in his chair and snoring" Kestrel asks, "Your commander?! *You* are musketeers?" Jean-Sebastien grins. Jean-Sebastien says, "De la Fleur, at your service." Kestrel says, "Er, not that you don't look capable, of course." [early_musketeers] Jacques says, "behind the stables, basically. so some kind of small, dusty field, and then buildings, and presumably a road beyond them" Amber examines the windows and the bars again. Giraud says (to Kestrel), "Well, we're less capable locked in here." Amber says, "Being locked up makes us no less capable. ther are just fewer opportunitites to prove it, at the moment." Jacques says, "the bars are nailed into the (wooden) wall on the outside" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Wooden bars?" Jacques says, "(or, rather, nails through holes in the bars)" [early_musketeers] Amber asks, "Iron bars, or wooden slats?" Jean-Sebastien asks (of Amber), "How strong are those bars?" Amber tests the bars. Game_Master says, "(so iron bars, yeah)" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "(Can Amber reach the bars?)" Amber says, "Well, they are iron, so strong enough, I'm thinking." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(if someone boosts her)" Amber whispers, "but the nails and the wood may be weaker. Jean-Sebastien moves a cot next to the window, steps up onto it, and tries pushing on them. Giraud asks (of Amber), "I reiterate my offer: care for a closer look at the window?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(I guess this'd be a straight brawn roll -- probably TN 25 to shift bars)" Amber pulls out her eating knife, and pries at the wood. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Focused on Brawn (from Resolve)" [7thsea] Jean-Sebastien rolls 3k3: 10+4 5 10+9 | 38 [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(my)" Jean-Sebastien closes his, eyes, takes a deep breath, and concentrates on *moving the bars*. Game_Master says, "Jean suddenly stumbles forward as the bar comes loose in his hands." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(there's a total of three bars -- you'd probably have to remove one more, maybe two, for amber to climb out)" Kestrel watches the guards. If they are looking, I drop my fork. Jean-Sebastien stage-whispers, "These bars are not so secure as they're designed to be." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(there's one guard, sleeping in chair)" Jean-Sebastien tries the same little trick on the next one. [7thsea] Jean-Sebastien rolls 3k3: 4 2 4 | 10 [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(who has currently not awakened)" Jean-Sebastien says (to Giraud), "Come up here -- give me a hand..." Giraud eyes the newly-created space. Amber says (to Jean), "(in a whisper) You are quite impressives." Giraud stands on the cot next to Jean and joins in. [early_musketeers] Giraud asks, "So how does this work?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "straight brawn, try for 25" Jean-Sebastien says (to Amber), "Thank you. A fortuitous providence, which I hope lasts." Jean-Sebastien says (to Giraud), "Together, on the left one..." [7thsea] Jean-Sebastien rolls 3k3: 8 2 1 | 11 [7thsea] Giraud rolls 2k2: 4 9 | 13 Amber lends a hand. [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "I think two people per bar is probably the max" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Is there room up here for all three of us?" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Timing." Jean-Sebastien says, "Or perhaps the right one might be weaker." Giraud asks, "Shall we?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "but you can try the other bar, or have amber pair up with somebody else (ie, each group can only try once per bar)" Jean-Sebastien takes a deep breath, and nods. Jean-Sebastien says (to Giraud), "One apiece. Not a sword, but better than nothing." Game_Master says, "the left also snaps out as Jean and Giraud push -- the guard coughs once and changes position in his chair, but doesn't wake" Amber clambers up to the window. Amber says, "Give me a boost." Jean-Sebastien makes a stirrup with his hands. [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "I guess, um, finesse roll for amber here, TN 20" [7thsea] Amber rolls 3k3: 10+4 2 3 | 19 [early_musketeers] Amber exclaims, "drama die!" [7thsea] Amber rolls 1 die: 1 [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "heh" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Hee" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(still makes it, of course)" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Heh/urg." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "sigh." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Still." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Saving the good rolls for when you really need them?" Game_Master says, "Amber wrestles herself in, gets stuck halfway, and then squeezes out and through at the last minute" [7thsea] Game_Master rolls 3k2: 6 4 4 | 10 Game_Master says, "no reaction from the guard" Jean-Sebastien hands some money up to Amber. Amber says, "I'm off, fellas. To Fong-Arrang." Jean-Sebastien says (to Amber), "This should be enough to hire a messenger, or to hire a horse if you take the trip yourself." Amber says, "I'll get a horse, and be back as quick as I can." Giraud says (to Amber), "Be quick and be quiet." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien hisses, "No! Fong-Arrang is in Cathay! You're going the wrong way!" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(I should point out Amber will be gone over a day here)" Jean-Sebastien carefully places the bars back where they belong. [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "since it's a full normal day's journey one-way" [early_musketeers] Amber says, "hrrmm. but we cannot necessarily trust messengers." [early_musketeers] Amber asks, "thoughts?" Jean-Sebastien steps down. "It's a good thing she's small. I don't think there are enough blankets here to pass for one of us." Jean-Sebastien tries to put together a rough Amber-shape under a blanket on one of the cots. [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Depends on how much holy hell you want us to catch on your behalf." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "we could ask Celeste to come here, and testify for us." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "I'd probably go with a messenger, personally." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "I like messener option, also." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "pardong the typing." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Because if Amber goes herself, then it'll be clear that Amber was out of her cell, because Celeste would know." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "I'm for a messenger as well." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Whereas if a messenger goes, we never need to mention that she left." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Merely that... 'we made arrangements'." Kestrel says, "There's a Fhideli by the name of Robyn I would trust with a message." Giraud asks, "Oh?" Kestrel says, "her camp is to the east of the town, by the fork in the stream." Amber asks, "How will she know I'm from you?" Kestrel pulls out a small coin. "Give her this. She'll know you can be trusted. And tell her of my plight. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien exclaims, "Wait a sec, we don't know that we can trust this horse thief!" Amber says, "Shh. I was going to use her as my backup. I'll send two, that way one will be sure to get through." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Should we FF again?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(if you're done talking, I'll play out a bit with amber)" Game_Master says, "Amber sets off." Amber goes into stealth mode. You whisper "you make your way along the streets of the city" to Amber. [early_musketeers] Amber says, ""Like a shadow, I am." You whisper "it's dark, of course, and moonlit" to Amber. Jean-Sebastien sets in on the bread, cheese, and grapes. And wine. Mm-mmm. [early_musketeers] Giraud exclaims (at Amber), "Yay!" Giraud joins Jean. Jean-Sebastien makes sure to save out a fair portion for Amber, of course. You whisper "there are not that many people around, but it's festival and there are always drunks and a few last performers, and then other travellers like yourself, sticking to the shadows" to Amber. Amber moves along like she has every right to be where she is. [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Idling for a moment." You whisper "perhaps you could make a stealth + finesse roll, just, you know, to be on the safe side." to Amber. [7thsea] Amber rolls 7k3: 10+6 6 2 5 5 2 10+6 | 38 You whisper "that seems pretty safe to me" to Amber. Amber whispers, "yay!" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "So OOC chattering, I wonder if Bron is fully trustable." You whisper "hunh -- who's that crossing your path?" to Amber. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Is he just stupid, or is he also Not A Nice Guy?" You whisper "(he doesn't notice you because of the shadows, but the moon catches his face for an instant, and he looks familiar--)" to Amber. You whisper "it's, ah, that guy from the Grey Cat. the ventriloquist guy. Claude." to Amber. Amber whispers, "I head toward the gypsy first." Amber (privately to you) slides into a doorway, and takes a better look. Amber whispers, "what do I remember about claude?" You whisper "well, he's small and mousy-haired and somewhat nervous. he was the one that francis asked to move out of his chair before the whole conversation and then near-brawl" to Amber. Amber whispers, "francis being the rude musketeer, right?" You whisper "right" to Amber. Amber (privately to you) shadows claude for a block or two. You whisper "he's heading towards a building -- kinda tall, hard to see what it is in the darkness. he steps inside and the door slams shut behind him." to Amber. Amber (privately to you) examines building. You whisper "dark, since it's night, of course. but -- that window up there? whose face is that? Celeste?" to Amber. You whisper "(the face vanishes)" to Amber. Amber (privately to you) circles the building, still in stealth mode, and examines it from every angle. You whisper "there's a small booth (for somebody to sit inside, like a gate-guard) by the main doors. it's empty, right now, but there's something pale and white inside." to Amber. Amber (privately to you) examines ple white thing. You whisper "it's hard to pick out at night, but you find a place with better moonlight, and read -- it appears to be a playbill." to Amber. [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Wow. Amber completely disappeared." You whisper """THE TRAGEDY OF RENALDO AND JULIANA -- BIGGEST AND BEST AND FINAL SHOW TOMORROW NIGHT"" to Amber. [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(I'm still talking to her)" Amber (privately to you) leaves for the gypsy, determined to come back here as soon as she delivers the messages. You whisper "you meet up with Robyn, who hems and haws a bit, but agrees to send a message. "Where shall I meet you?" she asks." to Amber. Amber whispers, "..Robyn At the musketeer headqarters." You whisper "Robyn raises an eyebrow. "Are you sure? I will leave the reply for you there, then. What do you want the message to say?"" to Amber. Amber (privately to you) makes clear to Robyn that she wants someone from the town to come testify on her behalf t Borm. You whisper "Robyn nods. "For Kestrel, I will of course do my best."" to Amber. You whisper "(anything else?)" to Amber. Amber whispers, "to /robyn better yet, meet tme at the jaila;sdf,.m" You whisper "ellric, is that you?" to Amber. Amber whispers, "there's a lag on this editor so idon't see mistktakes, then backspca too far to correct them, or don't see them till i heit return." You whisper "hee hee" to Amber. You whisper "just kidding" to Amber. You whisper "ok, she agrees to get a message to your jail cell" to Amber. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "This'll have to get spliced into the log somehow." Amber whispers, "back to the mysterious building." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "er, yeah. I'll try and log it" Amber whispers, "rollit?" You whisper "nah, past roll good enough" to Amber. You whisper "on closer inspection, it is of course the theater." to Amber. Amber whispers, "I want to roll a wits to see if I should knock on the dorr." Jean-Sebastien finishes his share of the edibles and finds a place to rest his head. Probably on the cot he'd been standing on, since it'd be impolite to make someone else sleep on it. [7thsea] Amber rolls 3k3: 4 9 3 | 16 You whisper "well, realistically, people aren't going to hear you on the upper story unless you knock loud" to Amber. You whisper "which has its own attendant risks when you're a fugitive from the law and so on" to Amber. Amber whispers, "true. so how bright/stupid would it be to make these peoplee hear me?" You whisper "I cannot, of course, give anything away, but it is interesting that Celeste is here at the theater with Claude, isn't it?" to Amber. Amber whispers, "I could always write a note on the playbill and throw it ghrough the windoe I saw celeste in." Amber whispers, "right. exactly." Amber (privately to you) looks for an auxiliary back up messenger. just to cover her assetts. You whisper "to send someone else to the village? ok, although it's growing early (and more light out) -- you'll need to make another stealth roll to find one and stay undetected" to Amber. [7thsea] Amber rolls 7k3: 4 8 1 1 8 2 7 | 23 You whisper "ok -- you find an early-riding messenger at another stables who'll go for you" to Amber. You whisper "should he leave a message at the jail cell also?" to Amber. Amber whispers, "I give him the same basic message and instructions, then race bakc to muy jail cel." Game_Master says, "Amber arrives back at the cell just as the first light of true dawn is showing" Amber scrambles back in through the window. Jean-Sebastien exclaims, "Ooof!" Game_Master says, "the guard has been rubbing his eyes sleepily for the past few minutes, but has not yet really looked around" Giraud exclaims, "Amber!" Amber says, "You wont' beleive what I saw!" (in a whisper)" Giraud says, more quietly, "What happened?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(what about the bars?)" Jean-Sebastien tries to say some sort of a greeting, but will have to get his breath back, as he happened to be sleeping under the window. Amber says, "Ouch! those bars hurt." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Is Amber holding the bars?" Amber wiggles the bars out of their loose moorings, and *then*scrambles through the window. [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(hee hee)" Amber hands the bars to Jean to put back in place. "I can't quite reach it." Giraud takes one of the bars and puts it in place. Jean-Sebastien says (to Giraud), "Pleaf tage your foot ogg og by fate." Giraud replaces a second bar. "You should move faster," he says to Jean. Amber exclaims, "You'll never believe who I saw. *Celeste*!" Jean-Sebastien asks (of Amber), "Isn't that whome you were going to see?" Amber exclaims, "She's in some play,"the tragedy of so-and-so", in town.!" Amber says, "With Claude, too." Giraud says, "Do tell me this has something to do with our predicament." Jean-Sebastien asks, "My. When did she arrive?" Jean-Sebastien says, "She must ahve been following immediately behind us, almost." Amber asks, "Celest is supposedly some simple famr-girl, right? So why is sher here, being an actress?" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Claude is who, again?" Jean-Sebastien says, "Excellent question." Giraud says, "a good question" [early_musketeers] Amber says, "please pardon my atrociaous typing. this editor lags terribly, so i don't see my errors, and then I can' only backspace thritly charactehres to delete it." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Oh, OK. Little guy at tavern when we met the bad musketeers." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "kinda wimply." Giraud says, "Mmm, I feel the swirlings of a plot about my feet." Jean-Sebastien asks, "He was a ventriloquist, was he not?" Jean-Sebastien looks at Giraud. "An expert on voices, I'd imagine." Amber says (to Giraud), "I think it is up to our knees, at least, and getting deeper. I need a shovel." Kestrel asks to be filled in on details. Giraud says, "And he would certainly know any of our voices" [early_musketeers] Kestrel says, "but of course, I knowk them." [early_musketeers] Kestrel says, "ooc, of course." Jean-Sebastien quickly gives Kestrel a five minute recap before returning to the matter at hand. Amber says, "If that whole town were privy to this, we're in deep kimshee." Jean-Sebastien asks, "So did you speak to Celeste?" Amber says (to Jean), "No. I would have had to be quite load to get her attention, and that would have attracted more attention than I wanted." Amber says, "I saw her at the theater, on the second floor." Jean-Sebastien asks, "What did you do?" Amber says, "I had a vision of being drowned in a deep plot, so I fled." Amber says, "Metaphorically speaking, of course. I do not have the Sight." Giraud says, "Diyoiot" Giraud has disconnected. Jean-Sebastien asks, "Had you yet made any 'arrangements' at that time?" [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien exclaims (at Giraud), "Don't call Amber a diyoiot!" Giraud has connected. Giraud asks, "Did you find out anything more concrete?" Amber says (to Jean), "Not yet. I weant strait from there to the gypsey, then to my backup messenger." Jean-Sebastien frowns. "Did you change the message at all, in light of your findings...?" Amber asks, "Well, I told them to meet me at the jail cell . . . Does that count?" Jean-Sebastien sits, pondering. [early_musketeers] Amber says, "gotta idle a minute." Jean-Sebastien asks (of Amber), "Are you absolutely certain it was Celeste?" Jean-Sebastien asks, "And not someone who merely resembled her?" Giraud says (to Jean), "Do think with your head and not your heart, Jean." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "I'm going to ahve to go soon, by the way. Within half an hour, at the most..." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "back." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "yeah, I think we'll stop when you're done discussing" Jean-Sebastien says (to Giraud), "Alas, my weakness. It is my heart that feels a dear friend of mine was *not* in fact at the bank two days ago, and that Jacques merely mistook another for his identity." Amber says (to Giraud), "I don't believe he's thinking with either." Giraud says, "Perhaps I misspoke when I linked your thinking to your heart and not a different part of your anatomy...." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(snrk)" Giraud says, "Regardless, I begin to see enemies behind every shadow." Amber snorts. And in front of the shadows their cansting, too! Giraud says, "True." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "they're casting. oof." Giraud says, "So we have Celeste who may not have been who she said, acting with a man who had drinks with us." Giraud says, "Suddenly I find I have much to ask them both." Amber says, "I would like to know how Celeste, simple farm girl Celeste, is now acting." Amber asks, "Or was the farm girl the act?" Jean-Sebastien says, "It would be quite an act, if so." Giraud asks, "Would that not require the entire town of Alsace-Lorraine to be in on the plot?" [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(er, font-arrant?)" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Sure, that." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien smirks. Amber says (to Giraud), "If there were sufficient funds in the vault, it could buy the whole town into the act. Or, our 'honorable' musketeer brethren couls be coercing them." Jean-Sebastien says, "I honestly don't feel that Lorenz was lying to us." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(there were, I should point out, not that many actual villagers sighted)" Giraud says, "Ai. I fear untangling the web of paranoia we are now in." Jean-Sebastien says, "And the matter with Colin and the bandits seems far too elaborate to have been thrown together merely to implicate us in a robbery." % You have new mail in /var/spool/mail/jota Amber says, "Could we contact our former commander? He could vouch for us." Jean-Sebastien says (to Amber), "Remember that it was his idea to send us here." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "I'm starting to feel like Wesley Snipes in Art of Wary." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "War. Scuse me." [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "'Wary' works as well." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "true. and its just a sfunny." Jean-Sebastien says, "It seems to me that there are only a few sensible answers to how you came to see Celeste playing in the theatre..." Giraud says, "I can imagine a plot in which several confederates in Font-Arrant plan a robbery, and decide to enlist several Musketeers to cover their tracks." Giraud says, "Then enter our noble and unsuspecting heroes, stage right." Jean-Sebastien says, "One, the woman in the theatre was not the Celeste we met in Font-Arrant -- which it seems neither of you deem likely. Two, there is no Celeste, and this entire journey to Font-Arrant was a sham. Which itself seems quite unlikely, to the degree it would have needed to be planned." Amber says (to Jean), "NOt that planned. ther were not that many charachters." Jean-Sebastien says, "Three, Celeste was who she said she was, but deceived us in her nature -- perhaps as soon as the will was taken care of, she took her father's money and ran to Rayure." Kestrel says, "But the setting sounds pretty elaborate." Amber says, "Or there could be a malicious shape-shifter running amok." Jean-Sebastien asks (of Amber), "Did you count the bandits we fought?" Amber asks (of Jean), "As in, include in the story, or numbered them?" Jean-Sebastien says (to Amber), "Yes, four: this Celeste may be the same as the one we knew, but neither might be the *real* Celeste. It oculd be that someone somehow took her place..." Jean-Sebastien says (to Amber), "You said there were not that many 'characters' involved in the dealings at Font-Arrant." Kestrel says, "The timing of these events sounds impossible to plan without the help of Brm." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "sandman is attacking." [early_musketeers] Game_Master asks, "mmhmm. should we call it quits here, resume, er, sunday?" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "That's fine by me." Jean-Sebastien asks, "Lastly, as another possibility... could it be that Celeste has been coerced to act against her will?" [early_musketeers] Amber says, "sounds fine." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "alrighty." [early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "usual time, this sunday, hopefully to wrap things up" [early_musketeers] Amber exclaims, "yay!" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Excellent." [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Nifty." [early_musketeers] Amber says, "see you then. L8" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "bye amber" [early_musketeers] Kestrel waves. [early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Anything before I close the log?" [early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Only: aie." You click your ruby slippers together three times and disappear, safe in the knowledge that there's no place like home...
