[early_musketeers] PerrySimm says, "Log on."
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "I figure we can start when there's one more person, and the other folks can catch up"
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "but starting with two would be less-preferred"
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "We assumed we she was acting in the play, but it looks like she was just present at the theatre."
Kestrel walks the plank to adventure. Arr!
Kestrel arrives, looking for booty.
Amber has connected.
[early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Ah hm."
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "speaking of"
[late_musketeers] Miseri asks, "really no late today...?"
[early_musketeers] Kestrel says, "Arr."
[late_musketeers] inky says, "well, I really hoped to have everyone there for the final"
[late_musketeers] inky says, "and rob has a conflict, so"
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Ender knows we're playing right now, right?"
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "I assume; it's the 'usual' time"
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "but he can catch up when he shows up"
Game_Master says, "As you recall, Amber had just returned with news and having sent her message. The dawn was breaking; the guard snoozed in the chair outside."
[late_musketeers] Gunther asks, "that's a bit unfair towards all the others, isn't it?"
[late_musketeers] inky says, "yes"
[late_musketeers] inky says, "but there you go"
Jean-Sebastien inspects the door, curious if its bars are attached as securely as those on the window.
Giraud says, "There is much I wish answered, but I do not know if it is wise for us to absent ourselves from this cell."
[late_musketeers] inky says, "more to the point, the game can't linger on forever, so the finale is going to happen next week if we can get three players, but for this week, fine, we'll put it off"
[Crows-Nest] StandIn asks, "which game is this then?"
[Crows-Nest] Game_Master says, "this is #early_musketeers"
Jean-Sebastien says (to Giraud), "Hmm? I was just curiouos, in case extreme measures because necessary later on."
Jean-Sebastien says, "I certainly have no intention of fleeing into the breaking dawn."
Giraud says (to Jean), "Oh, that was not directed at you, but at the company in general."
Giraud says, "I attempt to talk myself out of rash actions, mostly."
[late_musketeers] Game_Master says, "again, yeah, the bars on the door could probably be jerked loose"
Jean-Sebastien nods.
[late_musketeers] Game_Master says, "although whether the guard would wake is another issue"
Jean-Sebastien says, "I wonder how long a swift rider would take to deliver our messages."
[late_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(even a swift rider would not come back until late afternoon)"
Giraud says, "If I were more sanguine about what will happen to us today, I would be content to wait until the night for one of us to do more reconnoitering."
Jean-Sebastien says, "Well, I had the impression that Bron didn't intend to bother much with us until after the festival was complete."
Giraud says, "My hand itches for a sword."
[early_musketeers] StandIn has joined the channel.
Kestrel says, "The other aspect is that whoever *did* rob the bank is presumably getting further and further away as you sit here."
Jean-Sebastien says, "Mrm."
Jean-Sebastien says, "An unpleasant prospect."
Game_Master says, "The guard in the chair yawns and stretches, smacking his lips briefly before closing his eyes again."
Giraud says (to Kestrel), "True."
Giraud says, "Unless they are overconfident, or wish to witness our downfall as well."
Jean-Sebastien says, "Or, considering the apparent complexities of their plan, their work is not yet done."
Kestrel says, "Or have a Phase II of their Fiendish Plan(TM)."
Jean-Sebastien asks, "What is this tee-em?"
[early_musketeers] Giraud asks, "Can anyone besides Amber fit through the hole in the bars?"
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "in the window? no, not unless anyone else is Small"
[early_musketeers] (from Jean-Sebastien) Games-Master says, "Mabe, if you can find a sharp sword."
[early_musketeers] Giraud says (to GM), "That's rather personal."
Kestrel says, "Just a Naditi expression."
[early_musketeers] Giraud asks, "Also, are we riffing until Amber wakes up?"
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says (to Giraud), "I am sure your wooing skills would make up for it"
Jean-Sebastien nods.
[early_musketeers] Giraud snorts.
[early_musketeers] Kestrel asks, "Amber's here--I think her transcript's up, isn't it?"
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says (to Kestrel), "Mmhmm. Twice, even."
Giraud asks (of Kestrel), "Turning for a moment from our troubles, what do you plan to do regarding your interrment here?"
[early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Amber seems idle. (Are you?)"
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "She's probably just sharing a keyboard."
Kestrel says, "Well, I was hoping if I helped you guys get out of your scrape, you might help me out of mine."
Kestrel says, "All I need is a fair trial, really."
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "(BTW, when I looked at the cell door, did it look excessively secure?)"
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "as mentioned -- probably same deal as the windows"
Kestrel says, "As it is, I'm just a convenient scapegoat to some crime I haven't even been told about."
Giraud nods.
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "but more likely to attract the guard's attention, I would think"
Giraud says, "You can guess in what regard we hold justice in this town."
Kestrel nods grimly.
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien nods.
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Last ditch maneuvre."
Kestrel says, "I'm surprised they pinned this on musketeers, though. It's traditional to pin these things on outsiders."
Giraud says, "We are the only members of our regiment in town, and our commander is far away."
Kestrel says, "Well, there you go."
Giraud says, "This may be an effort to discredit us personally, our regiment, or musketeers in general."
Kestrel asks, "I don't suppose he or she could be contacted? Or would help if they were?"
Giraud says, "If all else fails, we could contact him. Though I would hate to have to beg for his help."
Giraud says, "He rather prefers his musketeers to be resourceful."
Kestrel says (to Giraud), "Not to belittle your importance, sir, but I would imagine myself that it's more of an effort to run off with a lot of money."
Giraud laughs. "Money trumps all, true."
Giraud says, "But money leavened with revenge is sweeter still."
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(I can skip ahead a few hours if you'd like)"
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Sure."
[early_musketeers] Amber says, "OK by me."
[early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Fine with me."
Jacques comes down the stairs again, walking past the (now awake) guard.
Jacques exclaims, "sirs! I've brought you some breakfast!"
Giraud exclaims, "Wonderful!"
Amber says, "Ah, food."
Jean-Sebastien asks (of Jacques), "Welcome! How goes your incarceration?"
Jacques asks, "er, my incarceration, sir?"
Jean-Sebastien says (to Jacques), "Why, you are trapped on tht side of the door, while we are able to walk freely within here."
Jacques hands over the bread and wine as he talks.
Amber asks (of Jean), "What are you rambling about?"
Jacques says, "er, surely there must be some mistake, sir"
Giraud asks (of Kestrel), "Care for some food?"
Jacques glances with concern at Jean.
Jean-Sebastien says (to Amber), "Merely casual conversation."
Giraud says (to Amber and Jacques), "He tends to be muzzy before he has coffee."
Amber says (to Jean), "Ah. I was thinking the jail cell had addled your few wits."
Kestrel says (to Giraud), "Great, thanks."
Jacques says, "and good news, sirs! Bron has agreed to begin the your trial"
[early_musketeers] Jacques says, "er, -the"
[Crows-Nest] StandIn asks, "that's good news?"
Jean-Sebastien says, "Ah, most excellent."
Jacques says, "I am sure we will get this whole misunderstanding cleared up just as soon as we are all talking together"
[Crows-Nest] Jean-Sebastien says, "Well, considering that we're innocent, and can't do much to defend ourselves while locked in a cell..."
Amber says, "Oh, wonderful. I'm sure our lot will improve tremendously once the scrupulously just Brom begins our farcicle trial."
Jean-Sebastien asks (of Jacques), "How much time will be given us to prepare our defense?"
Jacques thinks.
Jean-Sebastien says, "Summon witnesses, examine the evidence, and so forth."
[early_musketeers] Giraud asks, "Le Law and Commande?"
[Crows-Nest] (from StandIn) Jacques asks, "Defense? What is that?"
Jacques says, "well, he said first thing tomorrow afternoon -- so I imagine until then"
Amber asks, "And where is our lawyer?"
[early_musketeers] Amber says, "lag."
Jacques says, "lawyer, ma'am? we can of course send away if you wish to hire one"
Jean-Sebastien asks (of Jacques), "So you are here to let us out, so that we can make the arrangements?"
Jacques exclaims, "Er.. I, er, could not convince Bron of that. But I will be happy to look for anyone you wish to speak to!"
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Now he'd better not try to hire Gregor on us."
[early_musketeers] StandIn says, "yay"
Giraud raises an eyebrow.
Amber says (to Jacques), "There are none to be had in this city? Even the tiny town we traveled to had one."
Jean-Sebastien counts out enough money for a good lawyer.
Giraud asks, "And we are to plan our defence from in here?"
Jacques asks (of Amber), "really? how peculiar -- a lawyer for the peasants?"
Jean-Sebastien hands it over to Jacques.
Amber says (to Jacques), "It was peculiar . . . damned peculiar town."
Jacques says (to Jean), "you are too kind, sir; I will send away for the finest lawyer from the capitol. I am sure he will be here within a week or two"
Jean-Sebastien asks, "But Jacques, when is the trial?"
Jacques scratches his head.
Amber says (to Jacques), "Jacques, dear, are there any nearer? Our trial begins tomorrow, not in two weeks."
Jacques says, "well, I suppose it will have to be delayed, then"
Amber says, "I'm sure Bron will be most understanding."
Jacques asks, "but as musketeers, no doubt you have received some training in the law?"
Jacques asks, "can you not represent yourselves?"
[early_musketeers] Giraud asks, "Actually, anyone have Law skills?"
Jean-Sebastien asks, "If we have, will they let us out to examine the evidence and find witnesses?"
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "No."
Amber asks, "Does anyone truly think we will be able to convince our commander, who sent us away so he could set up this trap?"
Jean-Sebastien blinks at Amber.
Jacques says, "er ... I suppose I could raise the issue to Bron. surely your lawyer would need freedom to work out your defense."
Amber asks, "Do you doubt he was involved?"
Jean-Sebastien says (to Amber), "I think that is as unfounded at the moment as are his accusations against us."
Giraud says (to Jacques), "I have a proposal to make."
Jacques asks, "yes, sir?"
[Crows-Nest] StandIn says, "this really isn't the time"
[Crows-Nest] Jacques says, "snrk"
Giraud says, "If we are to mount our own defence, I ask that one or two of us at a time be allowed to walk the streets for research, with the others staying here to insure our return."
Jean-Sebastien nods.
Jacques asks, "hmm, that seems reasonable enough -- shall I go raise it to Bron?"
Giraud says, "If the others agree with me, please do."
Jean-Sebastien says, "Yes, I agree wholeheartedly."
[Crows-Nest] StandIn says, "raise games.7thsea.DefenseException"
Amber says, "Sure."
Jacques says, "very well, then"
Jacques hurries out.
[early_musketeers] Amber asks, "who is this StandIn?"
[early_musketeers] StandIn says, "gunther"
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Gunther."
[early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Also, Gunther."
[early_musketeers] Amber says, "hi, gunther."
[early_musketeers] StandIn says, "Hi, Emily(?)"
[early_musketeers] Amber says, "Sara Smith"
[early_musketeers] StandIn says, "Ooh. Sorry."
[early_musketeers] Amber says, "honest, that's my real name."
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Emily is Dana."
[early_musketeers] StandIn asks, "how's Ellric?"
[early_musketeers] Amber says, "sleepin' (finally). he was fussy once he left sunday school."
Giraud says, "Perhaps now we shall make progress"
Jean-Sebastien says, "It is to be hoped."
Jean-Sebastien looks around the cell, looking at and under the beds for any interesting features -- removable boards that could later be useful, sheets or blankets, etc.
Amber says (to Giraud), "I'd still like to know what Celeste & <name> were doing at the theater. It can't be good."
Jean-Sebastien says, "Claude? Mmm."
Jean-Sebastien says, "Well, Claude is a performer."
Jacques returns some time later. "He agrees, sirs! One shall be permitted to leave while the others remain. And, of course, the one who leaves shall have to give his word of honor to return by the time of the trial, if not sooner."
Jean-Sebastien says, "Perhaps Celeste was there to view the play."
Jean-Sebastien says (to Jacques), "Excellent."
Amber asks (of Jean), "In the middle of the night?"
Giraud says (to Jacques), "Wonderful."
Jean-Sebastien asks (of Amber), "On the same count, why would a performer be there at this time of night?"
Amber says (to Jacques), "That's excellent news. Thank you."
Jean-Sebastien asks (of Friends), "Which of us should go?"
Giraud says (to Jacques), "I believe all of us would be willing to give our parole."
Jacques gestures for the guard. "Does any wish to leave now? Or do you wish to discuss first?"
Giraud says (to Jacques), "Give us a moment, please."
Amber asks, "Who is the most diplomatic and charming?"
Jacques and the guard step away.
Giraud says (to Amber), "It depends on our initial goals."
Jean-Sebastien asks (of Amber), "You think I should?"
Amber says (to Jean), "No."
Jean-Sebastien looks confused, but doesn't comment.
Amber says (to Jean), "If everyone we needed to speak with was female, and somewhat vapid, you would be my first choice, no question."
[early_musketeers] Jacques says, "snrk"
Jean-Sebastien says, "I suggest drawing lots."
[7thsea] Amber rolls 1 die: 6
[7thsea] Giraud rolls 1 die: 10
[7thsea] Jean-Sebastien rolls 1 die: 2
[7thsea] Jean-Sebastien asks, "So which one is the winner?"
[7thsea] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Low or high?"
[7thsea] Jean-Sebastien says, "Er, channel."
Kestrel says, "Highest, of course."
[early_musketeers] Amber says, "we need to decide what we want to do. I haven't a clue."
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Talk to Claude and/or Celeste, now that it's daytime?"
Giraud says, "Before I go, we should decide on what we need to know."
Amber says, "Talking to Claude or Celeste sounds good, if you can go armed."
Jean-Sebastien says, "Well, one good question is why Celeste is here in town."
Giraud says, "I am curious about what Celeste is doing in town. I would also like to speak to the injured musketeer, to hear his own recollection of my attack."
Jean-Sebastien nods.
[early_musketeers] Amber says, "afk"
Jean-Sebastien says, "And I would suggest looking at the bank itself, and the area surrounding."
Giraud asks, "Anyone have other suggestions?"
Giraud nods.
Giraud says, "An excellent point."
Giraud says, "And see if there are other witnesses to the crime."
Jean-Sebastien nods, "Mmhmm."
Kestrel says, "And that other group of musketeers."
Giraud says, "Indeed."
Jean-Sebastien says, "Perhaps talk to the bartender of that tavern... the one where we first met Claude."
Jean-Sebastien says, "Find out if he's been there before or since, and with whom."
Giraud nods.
Jean-Sebastien looks to see if Jacques is still near.
Jacques steps over.
Jacques asks, "have you decided, sirs?"
Giraud says, "Yes. I am to go, at least initially."
Jacques says, "very good, sir -- you should carry this letter with you; it says you are not to be stopped by guards, though are temporarily stripped of your musketeer's privileges, on Bron's orders"
Giraud nods.
Jacques gestures to the guard, who unlocks and opens the cell to let Giraud out.
Giraud says, "I also ask that I be allowed to go armed."
[Crows-Nest] StandIn says, "uh-huh"
Giraud says, "On the understanding that I be subject to the usual laws of civilians regarding the arms."
Giraud says, "rather than the more forgiving musketeer ones."
Jacques says, "I, er, I think it would be hard to convince Bron to allow you to be provided with arms (glancing over to see the guard is looking away) -- though of course I cannot control your own behavior once you are out in the town"
[early_musketeers] Jacques says, "-own"
Giraud nods understanding.
[early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Well, I would have prefered legality, but I'll take what I can get."
Jacques exclaims, "best of luck, sir!"
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Well, he didn't say you weren't *allowed* to have arms."
Giraud says, "My thanks for all of your assistance."
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Just that he wasn't allowed to give them to you."
Giraud says (to the others), "I will return as quickly as possible."
Jean-Sebastien nods. "May fortune favor you."
Jacques watches Giraud leave, gestures to the guard to relock the door, and then leaves himself. The guard returns to his chair.
Jean-Sebastien goes back to looking over the furniture for removable parts and bedclothes, like before.
You whisper "in the interests of saving time, let's you tell me where you want to go and what you want to ask, and I'll summarize, then you can ask more questions or whatever if the summary is insufficient" to Giraud.
Game_Master says, "it is, I should mention, around 8am, and the messenger will likely show at 4pm or 5pm"
Giraud whispers, "Okay. First thing would be to pick up a sword and if possible a knife. Second would be to stroll by the theatre (assuming I get weapons) and see if Claude and/or Celeste are in. Innocent-like, no real mention of us being jailed, to see what they say."
Giraud whispers, "I can give more details or the next part of my plan now, if you'd like."
Jean-Sebastien breaks bread.
You whisper "alright. you stop by the market and locate a sword and a knife; it's easier to get a better-quality knife at this kind of fair on short notice -- the sword is servicable but not great. at the theater, the doors are (unsurprisingly) all locked, although there is an old man selling tickets in a booth outside, and a large banner overhead proclaiming THE TRAGEDY OF REYNALDO AND JULIANA -- TONIGHT FINAL SHOWING BEST EVER" to Giraud.
maga_dogg arrives, looking for booty.
maga_dogg sits quietly in a corner
[early_musketeers] Amber says, "back"
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says (to maga), "(right now, in fact, I am doing some private talking to Giraud, so there is not much going on of interest)"
Giraud whispers, "I'll gently pump the old man for information on Claude and a pretty young woman named Celeste while buying a ticket."
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "This is revenge for leaving you and Erich codebreaking, isn't it? ;)"
[early_musketeers] Amber says, "i picked the wrong time to be afk."
maga_dogg disappears through an invisible gap in the MUD. You think you may have heard the sounds of chatting before the gap closed again.
You whisper ""Celeste? I don't know any -- oh, the pretty actor? Yes, Crescenza -- ticket sales are certainly big for her last night here. Claude? By the description, he sounds a bit like the fellow who plays the apothecary, I don't know his name."" to Giraud.
StandIn has disconnected.
StandIn goes home.
You whisper ""here's your ticket for tonight's show, sir -- it starts just after supper-time."" to Giraud.
You whisper "(buying one ticket or five?)" to Giraud.
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(er, of course he's not on this channel, is he)"
Giraud whispers, "Oh, five. And I'll throw in something about "Good, I'd hoped to catch her in this role. How long have she and the play been running?""
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Heh. Nope."
You whisper "well, about two weeks, except of course when they took a few rest days" to Giraud.
You whisper "I'll let you guys know when you're done translating the bars of your jail cell haw haw haw" to Jean-Sebastien.
You whisper "":)" to Jean-Sebastien.
Giraud whispers, "Rest days? When was that?"
You whisper "The man thinks. "A few days ago, for a few days. I suppose they were gearing up for the big finale."" to Giraud.
Giraud whispers, "Well, I'm glad I won't miss the performance. My thanks."
You whisper ""Only too pleased, sir," the man says. "You're lucky you can still buy those tickets -- seems like everyone in town is buying a spot for the last night!"" to Giraud.
Giraud whispers, "I'll now go to tavern. On the way I'll stop by & have some flowers sent to Crescenza. 'I have of late become an admirer of your fine acting skills, and look forward to seeing you perform tonight. -- A friend of Martin's' on an attached note"
[early_musketeers] Kestrel asks, "How many guards and cells are there?"
You whisper "'k. and at the tavern?" to Giraud.
Giraud whispers, "Is Claude there? If not, I'll go to bartender and ask him about the mousey man who we had a drink with the other day."
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "I don't think any other cells are visible from here."
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "there's just the one guard on this level, and four cells. on the upper part there are a few more larger cells (more holding tanks for drunks, really) and maybe another guard or two"
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says (to Kestrel), "Ignore me :)"
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "the others on this floor are empty, though"
[early_musketeers] Kestrel asks, "Did I/we see any guards on the outside when we came in?"
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says (to Kestrel), "right, one or two"
[early_musketeers] Kestrel says, "Only one door in/out I presume."
You whisper ""Him? Let's see. He hasn't been in since, if that's what you're wondering. He was around maybe, oh, a week or two ago, just sitting all day drinking his wine, and then showed up again maybe once or twice before you folks had that nasty scene."" to Giraud.
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "right"
[early_musketeers] (from Jean-Sebastien) Game_Master says, "Except for the revolving door on the other side of your cell."
[early_musketeers] Kestrel laughs.
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "hee hee"
Giraud whispers, "Drank by himself, eh? At the same table each time?"
[early_musketeers] Giraud laughs.
You whisper "The man thinks. "Yes, now that you mention it."" to Giraud.
Giraud whispers, "I'm surprised the musketeers of du Lion bothered him that day we were in here."
You whisper ""Oh, well, you know those boys. Always brawling (he says tolerantly)."" to Giraud.
Giraud whispers, "Certainly. Just odd that they made a fuss over him being at that one table that one day."
You whisper ""Well, he always left when they came in before."" to Giraud.
You whisper ""So it didn't come up."" to Giraud.
Giraud whispers, "I'll give the bartender a few coins & thank him for his time, then go take a look @ bank and investigate around."
You whisper "the bank is pretty simple -- there's the outside door, a hall inside with a sleeping room branching off it and a vault room beyond. the two small chests full of the tax money that were in the vault room were removed, with the less valuable stuff left. the door to the vault was either unlocked or picked, since the key isn't left there, and the door is undamaged." to Giraud.
Giraud whispers, "No other signs of forced entry, struggle, or other clews?"
You whisper "doesn't look like it -- so professionals and/or fair amount of time to work in" to Giraud.
Giraud whispers, "Okay. I'll go talk to injured musketeer whose name escapes me at the moment, assuming his comrades will let me in & he's awake."
You whisper "Francis is at home, in bed. A nurse is tending him to change his bandages and sponge his forehead, as he is still badly injured and feverish and unable to speak coherently. When you come in, he seems to look up and recognize you for a moment -- he stretches out his hand towards you, shakes his head side to side, and then his arm falls limp again. The nurse ushers you out." to Giraud.
Giraud whispers, "I'll go talk to Francis's comrades, and hope they don't pound me."
You whisper "They seem on the verge of starting something, but you've got that letter from Bron, so they desist, although they do promise to come jeer at your trial tomorow." to Giraud.
You whisper "What do you want to ask?" to Giraud.
Giraud whispers, "Who found Francis, what they saw when they found him, the condition of the bank when they arrived."
You whisper "he was noticed in the alley by a passing traveller, who reported it to musketeers HQ. he was lying there, bloody, rapier on the ground next to him, unconscious (although he did wake long enough to name you when they came to take him to his bed). the bank was as it is now, the vault door unlocked and standing open, the front door closed but not locked, and nobody present." to Giraud.
Giraud whispers, "Last question: is the traveller still around, & did they get his name?"
You whisper "no and no -- understandably, there was a certain amount of confusion when he said what was up, and the guy wandered off." to Giraud.
Jean-Sebastien sings, "Nobody knows... the trouble I've seen."
Giraud whispers, "I'll thank them for their time politely and hurry back to the jail, stopping long enough somewhere near the cell to stash my weapons."
You whisper "alrighty." to Giraud.
Game_Master says, "Giraud returns to the cell around noon or 1pm."
Game_Master says, "full of news, no doubt."
Jean-Sebastien sings, "Nobody knows, but Theus..."
Jean-Sebastien looks up.
Giraud says, "I have learned some things, though not enough to be a great comfort."
Giraud says, "I stopped by the theatre first. It was closed, though I was able to talk to an old man selling tickets."
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Is anyone with him, or is he locked out of the cell?"
Giraud says, "We have tickets for tonight's final showing of Reynaldo and Juliana, bye the bye."
Amber nods.
Jean-Sebastien asks, "All of us?"
Giraud says, "I have five tickets."
Jean-Sebastien nods.
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(the guard lets him back in, if he wants to go in)"
Amber has disconnected.
[early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Yeah, I was assuming I'd been let back in & we'd gone off in the corner to confer."
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(or if not, I guess he can talk through the bars)"
[early_musketeers] Giraud says, "with the assumption that I or someone else could go back out if we decided to take that route."
Amber has connected.
[early_musketeers] Amber says, "Ack! Ellric disconnected me ;-)"
[early_musketeers] Giraud laughs.
[Crows-Nest] Jean-Sebastien exclaims, "There... are... FOUR... TICKETS!"
Amber asks, "Why did you buy tickets for a show when we're in jail?"
Amber sighs.
Giraud says (to Amber), "They may be useful, as you will see."
Jean-Sebastien says (to Amber), "I think it was nice he thought of us."
Jean-Sebastien asks, "When is the show?"
Giraud says, "When I described Celeste, the man selling tickets said he thought it was Crescenza, who is playing the female lead in the show."
Giraud says, "and that the show had taken several rest days a few days ago."
Giraud says, "Claude, he seemed to think, was playing the apothecary in the show, though he was not sure and did not know Claude's name."
[early_musketeers] Giraud asks, "Er, when *is* the show? 7?"
Jean-Sebastien says, "Interesting."
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "7 or 8, yeah"
Kestrel asks, "What of the others in the play perfomed for you?"
Jean-Sebastien asks, "Did you mention any of our other friends from town?"
Giraud says, "The show should take place around seven tonight."
Giraud says, "Ah, I should have thought of that. I failed to ask."
Giraud says, "I did take the liberty of sending Crescenza some flowers with an admiring note from 'a friend of Martin's'."
[Crows-Nest] Jean-Sebastien asks, "Speaking of, what time is it now?"
Kestrel chuckles.
[Crows-Nest] Kestrel says, "Round about noon-1."
Giraud says, "The bartender in the tavern we frequented mentioned that Claude began showing up roughly a week ago. Every day he would come in, drink his wine alone at the same table, then leave just as du Lion showed up."
Jean-Sebastien asks, "Before or after speaking to them?"
Giraud says, "Before, I believe."
Giraud says, "The bank was depressingly close-lipped regarding its secrets. The bank vault showed no sign of forced entry -- possibly someone experienced with locks or simply with plenty of time opened the door."
Jean-Sebastien says, "Or perhaps someone trusted to be there."
Giraud says, "The du Lion musketeer was still incoherent when I visited him, though when he saw me he gestured to me and shook his head from side to side."
Amber asks, "gestured how?"
Giraud says, "Lifted his hand towards me."
Jean-Sebastien asks, "More or less incoherent than the first time we saw him?"
[early_musketeers] Giraud says (to and), "flipped me off."
Giraud says (to Jean), "Much less. He has been gravely injured."
Jean-Sebastien nods.
Amber asks, "In a fist? To beckon? To go away?"
Kestrel says, "To say, "No, not *that* Giraud!""
Jean-Sebastien asks, "Did he shake his head as though warding you away, or as though saying you were not the Giraud he accused?"
Giraud says, "Unclear on all accounts. And his nurse ushered me out directly after."
Giraud says, "He could have been scared of me, saying I was not he who injured him, or anything inbetween."
Giraud says, "The other du Lion musketeers, who I might add were not pleased to see me, said that his attack was reported by some anonymous traveller."
Kestrel says, "If nothing else works, you could request to delay the trial until he regains coherency."
Giraud says, "In the confusion of the moment they failed to ask the man his name, and the man left."
Giraud says (to Kestrel), "An interesting point."
Jean-Sebastien says (to Kestrel), "Mmm. That would give us more time to find legal counsel, as well."
Jean-Sebastien says (to Giraud), "How convenient."
Giraud says, "After speaking to them, I returned here, unenlightened."
Jean-Sebastien asks (of Giraud), "How did they account for their whereabouts, and for being separated from him?"
Giraud says, "I did not ask -- they seemed to be quite agitated at my presence, Bron's letter notwithstanding."
Giraud says, "I think one of you might be able to find out more, perhaps by playing up doubts of my innocence."
Jean-Sebastien raises an eyebrow.
Kestrel says, "Hmmm."
Kestrel says, "Perhaps the duLion musketeer need not actually recover to be useful."
Jean-Sebastien says, "It would be difficult to do that, without implying guilt of our own."
Kestrel says, "Perhaps it need only be made known that he had recovered."
Kestrel says, "And that he was ready to identify his attacker."
Giraud says (to Jean), "Oh, you could hint at my riding ahead, though you would have to be careful not to implicate me in doing so."
Giraud says (to Kestrel), "I like your suggestion."
Amber says, "I'm not fond of implicating Giraud. I'm concerned that any hint in that direction may be taken as an admission of guilt."
Giraud says, "Well, even without you may be able to get more information from du Lion."
Giraud says, "(and do not think I am not touched by your loyalty, even be it tinged with self-preservation)"
Jean-Sebastien asks, "Do you think that the other du Lion men may have been involved in the attack on Francis?"
Amber says, "Perhaps I could use my so-called 'feminine charms' to procure more information, though I hate to do it."
Jean-Sebastien says, "If so, letting them think that he's recovered could put him in a great deal of danger."
Giraud says, "I would guess not. But they may have information that they were unwilling to volunteer to me or forgot in their anger at seeing me."
Jean-Sebastien says, "And if not, I'm not sure how it would benefit us."
Kestrel says (to Jean), "Well, naturally. That's why you post a guard around his bed, and wait for the real attackers to show up."
Giraud says, "I would also be *very* interested in seeing tonight's play."
Kestrel says, "The problem is, of course, that you're all stuck in jail, with nobody on the outside you really trust."
Jean-Sebastien has disconnected.
Kestrel says, "You could also say that he had been moved to a different ward to finish his recovery."
Giraud says, "I have visions of my once again being a decoy."
Kestrel's eyes twinkle.
Jean-Sebastien has connected.
Giraud says, "I wonder if we would be able to convince Bron of either plan of action."
Jean-Sebastien has disconnected.
Kestrel says, "Bron doesn't sound like the most trustworthy of characters."
Giraud nods.
Kestrel snaps his fingers. "But the du Lion regiment, on the other hand..."
Giraud says, "And do not forget that Amber can attend the play, if no one else can."
Kestrel grins.
Jean-Sebastien has connected.
Kestrel says, "It might take some convincing, but if one of their own has been seriously injured, I feel it's safe to say they're trustworthy."
Giraud nods.
Jean-Sebastien has disconnected.
Game_Master says, "The guard changes outside. "Wait, only one of you to replace me?" "Worse luck, yeah -- the others all are going off early for dinner and then the theater -- we drew straws to see who'd have to do duty here, and I drew the short one.""
Kestrel shrugs. "Or, we could just escape ;-)"
Amber says, "Though simply escaping has its advantages, I would like to be able to clear my name."
Jean-Sebastien has connected.
[Crows-Nest] Kestrel says (to Jean), "Hey there, bouncy."
Jean-Sebastien has disconnected.
[early_musketeers] Kestrel asks, "What's the injured guy's name, again?"
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "Francis"
Giraud says, "Based on what little I found, I think Amber or Jean should approach du Lion and see if we can help each other."
Jean-Sebastien has connected.
Kestrel nods.
Kestrel says, "Maybe we could set things up where Francis was being brought to the jail to identify Giraud."
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Um. I'd be happy to be the one to go, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to stay online long enough to..."
[early_musketeers] Kestrel says, "Heh."
[early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Heh."
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Although maybe the bad connection has passed now..."
Jean-Sebastien rubs his head. "These dizzy spells... I've never enjoyed spending so long in such confined spaces..."
Jean-Sebastien asks, "I'm sorry. What did we decide again?"
[early_musketeers] Kestrel says, "Heh."
Giraud says, "Fresh air would undoubtedly do you good."
Jean-Sebastien nods. "It would be a pleasure."
Giraud asks, "So, anyone interested in talking to du Lion?"
Jean-Sebastien says, "I can. I'd like to speak to that ticket-seller, as well."
Kestrel says, "The plan, as I see it: Contact du Lion, get them to agree to help find Francis's real attacker. This is the trickiest part. If they agree, then spread the word that Francis has recovered, and that he is being brought to the jail tonight to identify Giraud."
Giraud says, "Mmm."
Giraud says, "The only problem is that that potentially closes off any investigation at the play tonight."
Kestrel says, "From your earlier stories, I doubt they'd really listen to a lady (no offence, ma'am), and surely wouldn't speak to Giraud."
Jean-Sebastien asks (of Kestrel), "How do we convince them we haven't already found Francis' real attacker?"
Jean-Sebastien says, "That is to say, Giraud."
Kestrel shrugs.
Kestrel says, "As I say, that's the tough part."
Jean-Sebastien says, "Mmm."
Kestrel says, "It doesn't *hurt* them to go along with the plan, and it may help. Perhaps that would be enough."
Jean-Sebastien has disconnected.
Kestrel says, "You may also receive word from your messengers by then, which may add to the evidence in your favor."
Giraud says, "Theus willing, yes."
[early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Hrm. Jean the human yo-yo eating up time."
Amber says, "The gypsy did say they would meet us here."
Jean-Sebastien has connected.
[early_musketeers] Amber says, "nice to have you with us again, Jean."
[early_musketeers] Amber says, "for the microsecond you have before your ISP bums out again."
Jean-Sebastien says, "But a well turned word may well turn a heart."
Jean-Sebastien says, "If I am to go, best it be done quickly."
[early_musketeers] Game_Master asks, "is he going?"
[early_musketeers] Giraud says, "I'm for it."
Giraud says (to Jean), "Before you go..."
Jean-Sebastien asks, "Yes?"
Giraud draws Jean-Sebastien aside and tells him where he hid the sword and knife he bought.
Jean-Sebastien nods.
Jean-Sebastien says, "Thank you. I hope I'll be back soon."
Amber says (to Jean), "Stay focused. Keep sharp."
Jean-Sebastien waits for the guard to exchange Giraud and himself.
Game_Master says, "The guard lets Jean out, and as he walks out, he sees that indeed, there's only the one guard there."
You whisper "you go out looking for du Lion -- they don't appear to be at the guardhouse, or at the gates" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "Did Giraud say where he found them?"
[Crows-Nest] Kestrel pulls the cord on the See-n-Say
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "If not, I'll try that bar."
You whisper "he found them lounging around the guardhouse, before, but they seem to have gone out" to Jean-Sebastien.
[Crows-Nest] Kestrel exclaims, ""Here is a duck! Quack! Quack!"
[Crows-Nest] Kestrel says, "The rooster goes: "Cockadoodle-doo!""
[Crows-Nest] Kestrel says, "The plot says: "Escape! Escape!""
You whisper "the bartender at the Grey Cat says yeah, they were there drinking before, but they said something about getting an early supper before the play" to Jean-Sebastien.
[Crows-Nest] Giraud says, "The End Means Escape"
[Crows-Nest] Game_Master says, "hee hee"
Jean-Sebastien has disconnected.
Giraud has disconnected.
Amber has disconnected.
Amber has connected.
Amber says, "Just thought I'd follow suit."
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "(aie)"
Giraud has connected.
[early_musketeers] Amber asks, "hello again giraud. Seen Jean lately?"
[early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Heh."
[early_musketeers] Giraud watches the clock hand approach the hour when he must leave.
[Crows-Nest] Kestrel says (to GM), "Might Jota get a stabler connection to DaveMUD? You could whisper there."
[early_musketeers] Amber says, "when must you leave"
[early_musketeers] Amber asks, "giraud ?"
[early_musketeers] Giraud says, "In an hour."
[early_musketeers] Giraud says, "guests come over."
[Crows-Nest] Game_Master says, "yeah, I don't know if it's his ISP or just connection to here. if it's the latter, that's a good idea"
Jota hollers, "ARGH!"
Jean-Sebastien has connected.
Gunther hollers, "quick! to davemud!"
Gunther hollers, "also, qconnect"
[early_musketeers] Amber asks (of Jota), "Bad ISP?"
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "I buy a cloak. Plain brown. Looks like not a musketeer."
You whisper "OK" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "I don't want to be noticed as one of the prisoners, even if seen by the guards or Bron or whoever. Should I roll Disguise for it?"
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Bad phone line, I think. Not sure."
You whisper "not unless you get scrutinized closely" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "(Last thing I heard you say is that the Lionaires weren't where Giraud found them)"
You whisper "right" to Jean-Sebastien.
[early_musketeers] Amber asks, "when did the problem start? just today?"
You whisper "the bartender at the Grey Cat says yeah, they were there drinking before, but they said something about getting an early supper before the play" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "Did they say where they'd be eating?"
[early_musketeers] Amber says, "sorry, my helpdesk persona is taking over."
[early_musketeers] Amber -)
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Oh, no, it's been like this for some time."
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "This is certainly not the first time it's interfered with Sea :("
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "It's a periodic thing -- usually fine, every once in a while, trash."
You whisper "no, but there's a couple places you could try (although it'd take some time to hunt around)" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "OK -- for the moment, I think I'll stop by the theatre, so long as it's still early afternoon."
[early_musketeers] Amber asks, "when you say phone line, do you mean the cable from your pc to the wall, or from your house to the 'net?"
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "What is it like there? People hanging around outside, big crowds, fairly empty?"
You whisper "theater doors all apparently locked (although you could poke around more), a few scattered people, an old guy selling tickets in a booth" to Jean-Sebastien.
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "I *think* something between the wall of this room and where the house actually hooks up to the telco."
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "I'll wander up to the old guy. 'Afternoon. I was wondering about an actor I've seen, I wasn't sure if he was supposed to be in tonight's play...'"
You whisper ""Yes?"" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "'He has this twirly moustache, or at least he did when I saw him. Er, about so tall...' And I describe Gregor."
You whisper "The man thinks. "Well, he doesn't have a moustache when I see him, but I suppose that could be the man who plays Juliana's pirate father. He's certainly tall and lanky."" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien (privately to you) nods, "Juliana... she's played by Craz, er, Crezh... er...?"
You whisper ""Yes, Crescenza. Charming -- and so beautiful!"" to Jean-Sebastien.
You whisper ""A fine Vodacce lass, I think, although she speaks Montaigne like a native."" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "That she is -- beautiful, I mean. I met her once, you know. She was doing a performance out in the north country."
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "'What about, oh, what's-his-name?' I describe plowboy. 'He was just hilarious in Dances Wildly three-- or maybe it was four or five years ago...'"
You whisper ""Renaldo himself -- I see you're acquainted well with the troupe. Looking forward to tonight's performance, eh?"" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "'Oh, very much so. A friend of mine is going to be picking up some tickets. I just hope I can find him before the show! Wouldn't want to miss it.'"
You whisper ""No indeed!"" to Jean-Sebastien.
You whisper "and now?" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "Well, thank you. You've been a big help.'"
You whisper ""My pleasure, sir!"" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "Now, I'd like to take a look at the place Francis is being kept. Not necessarily going inside or anything yet."
You whisper "it's his house, with a nurse attending" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "Is there a window to the room where he is?"
You whisper "yeah" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "Is the nurse in there, or is he alone right now?"
You whisper "you can wait until she leaves, if you want" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "OK. I'll watch her while she's there, though."
You whisper "she bustles around changing his bandage occasionally, feeding him bits of bread, and saying things like "this fever must break soon!"" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien (privately to you) , when she's gone, slides open the window and whispers, "Francis?"
You whisper "he doesn't seem to hear, although he does move his head from side to side gently" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien (privately to you) quietly slips in through the window. "It's OK, I'm a friend." He pats Francis' hand encouraginly. "How are you feeling?"
Jean-Sebastien (privately to you) looks around at the room and the ministrations apparently offered, looking to see if anything here seems suspicious or out of place.
You whisper "Francis' hand is hot but clammy. He moans a bit and his head moves a bit from side to side again." to Jean-Sebastien.
You whisper "it doesn't look like it, although of course you've never been in his house before" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "If there's a cool cloth around for his forehead, I'll offer it to him."
You whisper "there are a couple, yeah" to Jean-Sebastien.
You whisper "and you can sponge off his forehead if you like, although it doesn't make much change in his condition" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien (privately to you) does so. "You rest. I'll make sure we find out who did this to you."
Jean-Sebastien (privately to you) exits the way he came. "The musketeers are behind you."
You whisper "at that he lifts his head a bit, turns it to you, and his eyes seem to see you for a sec "Giraud .. non Giraud .. non"" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien (privately to you) stops halfway through the window, coming back inside.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "'Non Giraud, oui... but who, Francis?'"
You whisper ""non Giraud ... dark ... sword .. hurt"" to Jean-Sebastien.
You whisper "(he slumps down, exhausted by the effort, and his eyes close)" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "'You rest now. Thank you.'"
Jean-Sebastien (privately to you) exits quickly, making sure not to disturb him anymore.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "About what time is it now? Three?"
You whisper "yeah" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "OK. I'll check back around the guardhouse and such quickly, in case they returned, and (if not) then I'll check likely hangouts."
You whisper "you finally track them down at one of the fancier restaurants" to Jean-Sebastien.
You whisper "near the theater" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "I'll take off the cloak then, while I'm there, so that they won't associate it with me."
You whisper "mmhmm" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien (privately to you) approaches them. 'Hello, friends. I've heard about what happened to Francis. It's a terrible thing.'
You whisper "They glare at you a bit suspiciously. "So it is."" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "'My friends and I, de la fleur, are also dismayed, although I am certain we cannot feel the pain as keenly as you, his closest friends.'"
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "(Consider this Oratory, BTW :) )"
You whisper "mmhmm. and what are you trying to get them to do?" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "'It is a terrible crime, and it must be avenged. Whoever did this must be brought to justice.'"
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "(To help find the real attacker)"
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "'Would that we could help -- but we ourselves have been confined to sit and wait, in darkness -- so it is up to you, my friends.'"
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "(Should I roll the Oratory, or just RP it?)"
You whisper "They don't look particularly convinced. "It seems to me the perpetrators are in jail .. or all but one are, anyway."" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "'I spoke with Francis. He is troubled, with fever and with the memories of what happened. He could say little.'"
You whisper "(you're really going to need to present them with some actual evidence to get them to help out, here0" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "'But what little he said must be heard. "Non Giraud." "Who did this to you?" I asked. It was "Non Giraud." He spoke of... "dark... sword... hurt."...'"
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "(Hmm, OK.)"
Jean-Sebastien (privately to you) allows his head to drop, the great truth having been por out from his lips.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "(Poured)"
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "'I will go now. But... is there anything you could tell me... anything that might help me see the more clearly?'"
You whisper ""We'll be sure to come watch you get convicted at the trial tomorrow -- you can speak your piece then."" to Jean-Sebastien.
You whisper "The men shrug. "He was going home after drinking with us. His house is that direction, past the bank. No doubt he heard a noise and went to investigate."" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "'That is where he was found, at the bank?'"
You whisper "in the alley outside" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "'Thank you. Friends.'"
Jean-Sebastien (privately to you) leaves.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "(Are there still a couple hours before the play?)"
You whisper "yeah, although the messenger will be coming back soon" to Jean-Sebastien.
[early_musketeers] Giraud says, "What's the current status? I have under twenty minutes left."
You whisper "(it's like 4ish now, play at 7 or 8)" to Jean-Sebastien.
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "OK. Is there likely time to look at the course Francis would have taken on his way home and where he was found before the messenger?"
Jean-Sebastien (privately to you) hunches his cloak up on his shoulders again, outside the restaurant.
[early_musketeers] Amber says, "well, my simcity is coming along nicely. :-)"
You whisper "yeah, but frankly, lots of people have walked over the area again since the incident" to Jean-Sebastien.
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "I think Jean is finishing up. it's about 4pm game-time. obviously we won't be finishing today"
[early_musketeers] Giraud says, "We are the Slow Class."
Jean-Sebastien whispers, "OK. Then I'll just take a quick look, and (assuming I find nothing), return to the cell."
[early_musketeers] Game_Master asks, "is it possible to drag folks in for another monday session? sargent's going out of town at some point, right?"
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says (to Giraud), "That's probably what we get for both of us only having Wits 2."
Game_Master says, "Jean returns to the cell around 4pm"
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says (to GM), "I'd be fine, but..."
[early_musketeers] Amber says, "I could do Monday."
[early_musketeers] Giraud says, "I leave a week from today."
[early_musketeers] Giraud says, "I'd prefer Tuesday to Monday, but I'll take what I can get."
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "so saturday is also possible if people'd prefer that"
[early_musketeers] Amber says, "Lucian & I are out of town next weekend. Friday night - Sunday morning."
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "This coming Saturday's bad for me."
[early_musketeers] Game_Master says, "er, ok, strike that then"
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "And Friday is #oneshot."
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Unless..."
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Well, I could maybe do 2-5 or 3-6 Eastern Saturday, afternoon."
[early_musketeers] Game_Master asks, "ok, so is Jean talking? or skipping onto Robyn coming back?"
[early_musketeers] Amber says, "no, saturday is bad for Lucian & I."
[early_musketeers] Giraud says, "I'd like to hear Jean talk, and then call it a day."
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "I was waiting for someone to say 'hello' :)"
Giraud says, "Ah, Jean."
Giraud says, "Any luck""
Giraud asks, "?"
Amber asks, "Hello. How did it go?"
Jean-Sebastien says, "A bit -- I have seen lions."
[early_musketeers] Giraud says, "and if we can't find any other day, I suppose Monday will have to do."
Jean-Sebastien says, "But the lions have growled and rolled on their backs."
[early_musketeers] Amber asks, "and tigers and bears?"
Jean-Sebastien says, "But...I also spoke with Francis."
Giraud asks, "Oh?"
Jean-Sebastien says, "I took the opportunity to visit him while his nurse was out of the room."
Amber asks, "And?"
Jean-Sebastien says, "He was feverish, but he did make one thing clear: 'non Giraud'."
Jean-Sebastien says, "He also said 'dark, sword, hurt' -- but the strongest thing was 'non Giraud'."
Giraud says, "Ma foi! but that is good to hear."
Giraud asks, "No one else was there to witness it?"
Jean-Sebastien says, "Alas, this news was not enough to engender the goodwill of his associates; I fear stronger proof may be needed."
Amber says, "That is very interesting. So who is claiming our Giraud attacked him, then? Some random traveler who cannot be found? That sounds dubious, at best."
Jean-Sebastien asks (of Giraud), "Were there another near to witness it, would I have been allowed to stay?"
Jean-Sebastien says, "I must wonder if perhaps the person who did it was -- 'Giraud, but not Giraud'."
Kestrel says, "The problem is grammar. "Not Giraud" or "No! Giraud!""
Amber asks, "Did he say anything else about this dark sword?"
Jean-Sebastien says, "A disguise, perhaps. An actor, may be."
Jean-Sebastien says (to Amber), "No -- five different words came from his lips, no more."
Jean-Sebastien says, "n actors, as well, I've something to say."
Giraud says, "Do tell."
Jean-Sebastien exclaims, "Our plowboy is a star, tonight. Renaldo himself!"
Amber exclaims, "Oliver?!"
Giraud applauds. "I should have guessed."
Jean-Sebastien says, "And "And without his moustache, Gregor may be the very image of Crescenza's pirate father."
Amber asks, "I must see this play. It could prove most enlightening. How many of their sappy lines came from this very piece?"
Jean-Sebastien says, "I wonder what news of yon village of ghosts our messengers will return with."
Kestrel muses. "The actors, I can see. The setting seems a bit harder to come up with on short notice."
Kestrel asks, "An entire village? A mansion?"
Jean-Sebastien says, "Fields of ripe grain, in fact."
Giraud asks, "What of Colin and Lorenz?"
Giraud says, "Or 'Colin' and 'Lorenz,' I undoubtedly should say."
Amber says, "Doubtless the village and mansion are real, they just needed the legitimate residents gone for a short while."
Jean-Sebastien says, "I did not ask -- to enquire further on every member of the troupe may have engendered suspicion."
Amber growls under her breath.
Giraud asks, "du Lion was not willing to help?"
Amber says, "As if that lot isn't suspicious enough. Ah, well."
Jean-Sebastien says, "But it seems clear enough that anyone who thought they'd known Celeste and Gregor for many years could not have spoken true."
Game_Master says, "(and indeed, Robyn's messenger arrives at the jail cell around now -- the village is deserted.)"
Amber asks, "Could it have been a spell?"
Jean-Sebastien asks (of Giraud), "No, they are still convinced of your guilt -- and as long as you are here, what reason have they to complain?"
Giraud sighs.
Giraud says, "I wonder if Francis will meet an untimely end in the near future."
Jean-Sebastien asks (of Messenger), "Entirely?"
Jean-Sebastien asks (of Messenger), "No one to tend to the grain, or to live in the houses?"
Amber asks, "Were there even any bandits?"
Messenger says, "I knocked on each of the half-dozen houses, and not a soul remained -- the doors were flung open as if the residents had vanished without even time to close them"
Jean-Sebastien asks, "Were their possessions within?"
Messenger shrugs. "Such possessions as peasants have, yes."
Amber asks, "This ruse grows more elaborate with every minute. How much money can one bank vault hold?"
Jean-Sebastien says, "My. This is worrying."
Giraud says (to Amber), "Yes. The return on such an investment of time and money seems unworth it."
Jean-Sebastien says, "I shudder to imagine the fate of the original occupants."
Jean-Sebastien asks (of Giraud), "The cost to hire an acting troupe for several days?"
Jean-Sebastien asks (of Giraud), "Or to have a village routed bloodily?"
Giraud says, "and arranging a town, an *empty* town"
Giraud says, "and manor"
Amber says, "To hire an entire troup of actors, and either build or take over a village requires a great deal of both money and planning."
Jean-Sebastien scowls at the very words he himself is saying.
Amber asks, "Might there be some other purpose behind this than just the bank vault?"
[early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Okay, I have to run."
[early_musketeers] Messenger asks, "alrighty -- will see you, um, tomorrow, I guess?"
Amber asks, "Who is poised to profit from our being discredited?"
[early_musketeers] Giraud asks, "Monday night, then? What time?"
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "OK, Monday."
[early_musketeers] Messenger says, "5:20-ish"
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien asks, "That's Pacific?"
[early_musketeers] Giraud asks, "Pacific, I assume?"
[early_musketeers] Messenger says, "yeah"
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Sounds good."
[early_musketeers] Giraud says, "Okay."
Giraud has disconnected.
[early_musketeers] Amber exclaims, "okay, Later!"
Amber has disconnected.
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Sorry about all my disconnects, BTW."
[Crows-Nest] Kestrel says, "No problem, Jean. :-)"
[early_musketeers] Messenger asks, "ok, ending here?"
[Crows-Nest] Kestrel asks (of Jean), "Did PerrySim get everything?"
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "I think so. I'm checking right now."
[early_musketeers] Jean-Sebastien says, "Well, everything but the interludes, and I can patch those in."
