Chaz Reynolds, age 13. Baggy clothes, shades, backwards hat, diskman. Somewhat of a child prodigy, if you count skateboarding prowess as high acheivement. He was very good up until a few years ago, when a strange woman who had been watching him practice walked up to him, handed a skateboard, and left without a word. Now he's *amazing*. [N.B.: He doesn't know it, but the woman was the Power of Skateboards, and gave him an Imbued Board]

Chaz is a decent student when he puts his mind to it, but if the subject isn't fascinating, he tends to get distracted. Two teachers have inspired him to excel: Mr. Dungan, who taught him Social Studies last year (and has since retired to go into the ministry), and Mr. Dimodica, who's currently (or just finished, if this is set in the summer) teaching him math. Part of what's fascinating about math is the fact that he's calculated that some of what he's able to do with his skateboard is mathematically impossible. "Cool."

Chaz has a younger sister, Alis, who he calls "'lis" when he's being affectionate, and her full name, Alison, when he's being annoying (she hates that). For all that he is alternately aloof and bossy with her, he cares for her deeply. The reason nobody comments on her carrying her 'dolly' around everywhere is that Chaz beat up several of her would-be tormentors, and refuses to let their parents confront her about it.

When skating around Seattle, he always seems to end up in front Lauren Kharkov's house, with whom he's shared a bus ride to school since the third grade. This is pure coincidence. Really. As is the fact that he remembers every detail of the day he skated up that tree, got knocked off by a branch, and was brought into the Kharkov home for bandages and antiseptic. He wondered why Lauren smelled like flowers, while her house smelled like crisp paper.

Power: The Power of Whimsy. In general, I'm thinking this entails being able to make things happen just because it's cool/funny. As translated through Chaz, this probably will involve a variety of extreme sports-type stuff, though in different anchors, it could manifest itself in practical jokes, or stand-up, or relaxing the formality at board meetings.

Rallying cries:
"Dude, lighten up."
"You know what'd be cool?..."
