[nobilis] Gaston has joined the channel. Raul says (to Alexandra), "Good afternoon." Alexandra says, "how do you set gender in a finger filed? been so long I can't rmember" Michel asks, "so are we all here?" Tyoka says, "@set me = (fe)male" Alexandra says, "thankee" Chiara has connected. [nobilis] Gaston says, "I think I'll go with the Nobilis 101 page to work out how many points I need to do whatever." Tyoka sets his @doing as well. [nobilis] jwalrus says, "hey, damn. ghogg already *has* a kung-fu-fighting character" [nobilis] Gaston says, "Besides asking inky, obviously." Franklin is called home. [nobilis] Kori has joined the channel. [nobilis] Raul asks (of Kori), "do you have a sample sheet yet?" [nobilis] Kori says, "not up anywhere that anyone else can see it" [nobilis] Raul says, "feh" [nobilis] Lo says, "it's a state secret" [nobilis] Kori says, "since I unhelpfully scribbled some things and handed it to inky" [nobilis] Kori says, "we have to hope he can read it" [nobilis] Gaston says (to Kori), "Hrnmf." [nobilis] Raul says, "Kori, the Power of Time-Life Books" [nobilis] Kori says, "rar" [nobilis] Lo says, "yay" [nobilis] GM says, "so, of course I'm not sure how many people are going to be showing up today" [nobilis] Raul says, "every time she shows up, you owe money" [nobilis] GM says, "but I figure we'll give folks five minutes and then get started" [nobilis] Lo says, "hee hee" [nobilis] Raul says, "and only by sending several 'cancel' letters can you avoid this." [nobilis] Kori says (to Raul), "it's a Gift" [nobilis] Tyoka says (to raul), "wow, that can be destroying" Franklin arrives, looking for booty. Tyoka puts Pigface's "Eat Shit You Fucking Redneck" CD in his discman [Crows-Nest] Franklin says, "oops, accidentally closed window." Gaston says, "Yikes, more people." [nobilis] Alexandra says, "hi david" Michel says, "right. let's kick off" Gaston says, "I hope we start with everyone introducing themselves." Penny pulls out a small mirror, and starts adjusting her makeup [nobilis] Alexandra says, "(he was complaining I wasn't saying anything)" Michel says, "AAGH lagging" Tyoka says (to gaston), "read the page" Alexandra wrangles with finger fields Gaston asks, "lpsmith's?" Tyoka says, "yeah" Lo says, "Not everyone is there." DavidW asks, "Who's missing?" Penny says (to DavidW), "well, Tyoko, Lo" Michel says, "emily, gunther, ghogg" Penny says, "several others who are making characters today" DavidW says, "ah. sorry. I'll shut up again." Kori says, "Emily is Not Missing." Michel asks, "so... what's to do?" Kori says, "also, inky is giving people a minute more to show and is simultaneously reheating thai food" Lo asks (of Kori), "The Duchess of Lost and Found Bins?" Kori says (to Lo), "No." Gaston says, "Can people put their real names and domains in their finger info, to help avoid confusion? Thanks." Gaston puts his own domain in his finger info, come to that. Lo says, "also, we need Duchess to play so we can call her the Duchess Duchess" Michel says (to Kori), "your character is from lpsmith's page" Kori asks (of Michel), "um?" Alexandra says (to Gaston), "I too was thinking that'd be a good idea :)" Kori asks, "Have I overlapped someone else's intended name?" Tyoka says (to Gaston), "done" Raul says, "I was planning on being Raul "Kori" Miera, but I can drop the "Kori."" Chiara says (to Raul), "oh" Chiara says, "also, oops" Penny sets domain Michel says (to Kori), "we've got most of our character sheets up on lpsmith's transcript page- that was what DavidW was talking about" Alexandra says, "I think duchess is planning to play, but she is today tied up in DC" Kori says, "My 'Kori' was short for Korinth" Gaston says, "Ooh." Kori says (to Michel), "yes, well, some of us have been on a train most of the week." Raul says, "Oh, good, mine was short for 'Korianisqatsi'" Gaston says (to Alexandra), "Rowr." Michel shrugs Gaston says, "No, wait." Lo says, "Trains are Chaz's specialty" Lo says, "Also, Lo is short for Lo. Just in case you were curious." GM says, "right, ok" Michel asks (of Kori), "wait, what are you the Power of?" Penny says (to lo), "I thought they were katre's characters, actually" Penny asks (of GM), "ooh, are we starting?" Michel says (to Lo), "no, he's Whimsy" Tyoka asks, "Lo is asian?" GM says, "first off, how about if everyone who is actually playing (ie, not gunther or ghogg) goes around and introduces themselves" Raul says, "I'm Raul Miera, future Marquis of Paths, and I'm Sargent's character." Alexandra says, "Kiz here, playing Alexandra Kettering, power of currency" [Crows-Nest] Franklin asks, "are we, in game terms, all gathered somewhere?" GM asks, "and what are you doing in seattle?" [Crows-Nest] GM says, "not yet" GM says, "specifically, in the international district downtown at around 10am in early may" Michel says, "I'm Michel Boreas Prud'hon, future Duke of the Empty, and I would be maga." Kori says, "O" Gaston says, "Mon nom est Gaston Lecroq, soon to be power of Reflection, and I'm Iain's character." Kori says, "er, oops" Raul says, "I live in New Mexico, where I help in my father's restaurant. I'm in Seattle, visiting a friend who was in my platoon and these days works there in Seattle." Penny says, "okay, I am Penny Sutcliffe, to be viscontessa of language. I write romance novels under the name Carolyn De Suchard, and I am on my way to visit my publisher's office. Also, I am Storme" [nobilis] Alexandra asks, "what's the command again to mute logins?" [nobilis] Tyoka says, "@oset mute(conn|disc)" Michel says, "I'm meant to be at an interminably dull academic conference, but instead I've been sitting in a succession of bars and coffee shops all night." [nobilis] Alexandra says, "thanks" Kori says, "I am Kori Barstow, future Duchess of Edges; I'm an art history grad student at the University of Washington, focusing on Japanese woodblock prints. I'm probably looking for brunch." [Crows-Nest] Tyoka asks, "not duchess of cheese?" Penny says, "and I live in Seattle, because it seemed easier to live where my books were published, and my cousin lives nearby." Franklin says, "(Rob) I am Franklin Merriman, future Duke of Paper, and I am in Seattle to purchase an ancient folio to complete a set for my collection." Gaston says, "I wandered onto a ship after a particularly rousing night and found myself in this godforsaken country." [Crows-Nest] Kori says, "I didn't want to be THAT predictable" Alexandra says, "I'm visiting for an ex-girlfriend's show in a local dive art gallery" Gaston says, "I hardly know what the hell city I'm in at this point." [nobilis] jwalrus asks, "is there any kind of a limit to how many gifts you can have?" [nobilis] Alexandra says, "only up to the points limit, I presume" [nobilis] Lo says, "Well, gifts cost points" [nobilis] Raul says, "How many creation points you're willing to spend" [Crows-Nest] Kori asks (of Michel), "A deconstructionist, are you?" [nobilis] Lo says, "I suppose you could have every stat at 0 and get only gifts, but that would be weird" [nobilis] Michel says, "gifts aren't free, y'know" [nobilis] jwalrus says (to lo), "could be fun, though" Gaston says (to Franklin), "Huh, some people are far too organised." [Crows-Nest] Michel shrugs [nobilis] jwalrus says, "no, I know, but I seem to have four and it feels a bit many" [Crows-Nest] Michel says, "waves a hand in a particuarly non-expressive expressive gesture" [nobilis] Penny says (to jw), "I have 3. don't worry about it" [nobilis] Raul says, "The game report on rpg.net had characters with lots of gifts" [nobilis] Raul says, "and I've got, mrm, four" [Crows-Nest] Michel says, "grr, emotes" [nobilis] Tyoka says, "I have 4 too" Michel says, "finger emily" [nobilis] buzzard has joined the channel. Michel says, "DAH" Tyoka grins. Michel says, "this lag is screwing my typingness" Gaston says (to Michel), "That seems impolite at this stage of the proceedings." [Crows-Nest] Tyoka exclaims, "zut alors! you silly french person!" GM says, "right then" Michel shoots a grin at Gaston, and takes another drag GM says, "this being seattle in early may, it is raining" Raul opens the umbrella affixed to his wheelchair. Franklin says, "Rain makes my knees ache." GM says, "not hard, but enough to drive most of the people off the streets who aren't doing anything" GM says, "nevertheless, one hopeful proprietor of a cafe has a table out on the sidewalk" Gaston asks, "Why would I be on the streets if I was doing something?" Penny has her umbrella open, and a rainhood. She is always prepared. GM says, "(although he's hedging his bets, since it's got an umbrella)" Michel stares into the rain GM says, "across the street is a chinese restaurant, a not uncommon sight in the i-district, with one of those tanks in the window filled with lobsters looking sadly ought through the glass" Gaston says, "Mmmm, lobster." Penny says, "aww, cute baby lobsters" GM says, "Michel can see this perfectly, since he's in the cafe that has the sidewalk table" [Crows-Nest] Franklin asks, "logging?" [Crows-Nest] Alex says (to Franklin), "Awwwk! Word on the street is that logging is bad for the environment." [Crows-Nest] GM says, "oops, right" PerrySimm arrives, looking for booty. [Crows-Nest] GM says, "(ok, log on)" GM says, "other people are generally heading down the street or ducking under storefront awnings to get out of the rain" [Crows-Nest] Lo says, "The wise man is aware of his own log-nature." Alexandra ducks out of a local battered metal doorway, holding a plastic cup of white wine and digging though her satchel for advil Michel runs a speculative hand across his 10am shadow Gaston mutters angrily and tromps around looking for a decent cafe. Raul goes one step further and spreads a blanket across his knees. Franklin needs somewhere to rest for a few minutes. Fortunately, he's an hour early for his appointment and has the extra time. GM says (to Franklin), "there's a small curio shop across the street you could duck into, perhaps -- it's got some books and maps in the window" GM says (to Gaston), "there's one now, with a table outside with an umbrella over it; there's a guy sitting at one of the chairs but the other is unoccupied (or you could go inside)" Michel nods absently as his espresso mug is refilled Franklin spies a curio shop and enters it gratefully. Gaston says (to GM), "I'll sit outside." Penny walks demurely towards her publisher's, avoiding the puddles. Alexandra finds the advil and downs three, along with the last of the cheap wine Raul looks for some interesting shop to go into, since Simon's working today. GM says (to Gaston), "the man nods pleasantly to you as you sit down. "Enjoying the weather?"" [Crows-Nest] Franklin asks, "who is simon?" Governor has connected. [Crows-Nest] Raul says, "The friend I'm visiting in Seattle" Gaston says (to GM), "(This isn't Michel, right?)" [Crows-Nest] Franklin says, "oh ok" [Crows-Nest] Raul says, "who I didn't name before" Michel says (to Gaston), "yeah, like I'd say that" GM says (to Gaston), "he's fiddling methodically with the piles of condiments, the little jellies and the salt and pepper packets" Gaston says (to Man), "It is very pretty, but also wet." jwalrus arrives, looking for booty. GM says, "The man grins. "Don't like wet, eh? Too bad." He rises abruptly and walks off, leaving his glass." [nobilis] PerrySimm has joined the channel. Gaston sniffs, slightly amused. [nobilis] GM says, "jellies = little containers of strawberry and raspberry jam" Gaston also watches him leave. Where's he going? GM says (to Gaston), "into an alley by the curio shop" Franklin asks the curio shop proprietor if he has a chair a customer can use for a few minutes. GM says, "meanwhile, over in the curio shop" [nobilis] Miseri asks, "Hm. when did game start?" Gaston looks around, waves his arm, tries to attract the attention of someone who might give him a drink. [nobilis] GM says, "10 minutes ago" [nobilis] Lo says, "Not too long ago" [nobilis] Lo says, "Come on in" Franklin plans on buying something or other if it will make the difference. Michel watches the little caffeine-sleeplessness tremors in his hand with mild interest [nobilis] jwalrus says, "dunno, I didn't notice until I realised people were talking on this channel" [nobilis] Miseri asks, "with Wilfred?" GM says, "The proprietor of the curio shop is an old man, but not quite as old as Franklin" GM says, "he comes over and gestures vaguely to a bench against the wall. "Take a seat, take a seat."" Franklin says, "It's the knees. Arthritis. Thank you." Franklin creaks slowly onto the bench. GM says (to Michel), "you see somebody outside waving" [nobilis] Gaston says (to Franklin), "Hee hee." [nobilis] GM says (to Miseri), "yeah" [nobilis] Lo says (to Miseri), "It's Seattle, and it's raining" GM says, "the proprietor says "looking for anything in particular?"" Michel barely registers the wave, since he's gone off into a fixed stare again Franklin scratches his ear thoughtfully. [nobilis] Miseri says, "mid-30s banker. tell me when/where i can jump in." [nobilis] Wilfred has joined the channel. Franklin says, "I am always looking for items of a certain antiquity, let's say." [nobilis] GM says, "you can be walking down this street downtown in the international district for any reason you choose" Franklin says, "For my modest personal collection." [nobilis] Penny says (to Rob), "stop making me laugh so much, dammit. I keep wanting to laugh" [nobilis] Penny says, "but I keep having to stop myself from doing it IC" [nobilis] Tyoka says, "use #crows-nest" [Crows-Nest] Gaston has joined the channel. [Crows-Nest] DavidW has joined the channel. [Crows-Nest] Penny has joined the channel. Raul comes to the cafe and looks in dismay at the steps leading into it. [Crows-Nest] DavidW asks, "I assume it rains in Seattle often?" GM says, "the store-owner glances keenly at Franklin for a minute. "collection, eh? what *sort* of collection?"" [Crows-Nest] Wilfred asks, "is it raining now?" [Crows-Nest] GM says, "yes" [Crows-Nest] GM says, "lightly on and off all morning" Raul says, "ADA, my ass." [Crows-Nest] (from Tyoka) Franklin says, "differently-colored pills... IYKWIM" [Crows-Nest] Alexandra has joined the channel. Raul looks for a ramp. Franklin's eyes twinkle. "An *excellent* collection." [Crows-Nest] Penny says, "belatedly, a twinset is a black top and black cardigan of an identical cut and colour, worn together" Owner asks, "very interesting. would you be interested in -- *this*?" Michel spots Raul. 'Little help?' Owner grabs a stick from the wall and shoves it in Franklin's face. It has a tasteless little animal skull on the tip Raul says (to Michel), "Yes, if you don't mind." Raul says, "Going down a few steps is not so bad. Going up..." Penny steps around a rather large puddle, but is splashed by a hurried passer-by. "Darn." [nobilis] jwalrus asks, "is everyone in this shop, and some people are just being quiet?" Michel nods without listening, and assists Raul into the shop Franklin tries to hide his distaste behind a polite smile. Alexandra tosses her plastic cup in the trash, along with a stack of flyers and postcards from the show [nobilis] GM says, "some people are in curio shop, some people in/outside cafe" [nobilis] Tyoka says, "Lo and I are in Limbus" Penny looks around for somewhere to dry off. Hmm, a cafe. Raul says, "Thanks." Raul wheels himself over to the barista to get a cup. Franklin says, "Er, no, not like that. Paper, you see. Anything from papyrus to early printing press --" [nobilis] Lo says, "I'm busy fighting ninjas." Wilfred hurries down the street, right through puddles, not really paying attention to whom he splashes. Owner asks, "ah, *paper*, eh?" Alexandra notices a metal contraption in the window of the curio shop, and wanders over for a closer look [Crows-Nest] Michel exclaims (at Penny), "OH WHAT A COINCIDENCE YOUR COVER ARTIST!" Franklin thumps his cane. "Of course, paper!" [Crows-Nest] Penny says, "I don't recognise him by sight, m'dear" Gaston spots people heading to the counter, mutters about lack of service, and heads over there too. Franklin says, "I mean, ahem, yes, paper." [nobilis] jwalrus asks, "limbus?" [nobilis] Tyoka says, "I'm busy driving criminals insane" Franklin asks, "Paper can last centuries, did you know that?" Owner grabs a book off the shelf, almost knocking a paperweight on top of it to the floor. "Try *this*" [nobilis] Tyoka says (to jwalrus), "the between-world" [Crows-Nest] Lo asks, "Aren't romance novelists supposed to hate their cover artists?" Franklin says, "Oof." [Crows-Nest] Penny says, "not this one" [Crows-Nest] Lo says, "by sterotype, I mean" [nobilis] jwalrus asks, "oh. I thought this was pre-ennoblement?" Owner's book seems to be an old and battered pawnshop inventory journal from the 1700s Franklin adjusts his eyeglasses, harumphs, and examines it. [Crows-Nest] Penny says, "he really captures the sensuality I want in my covers" [nobilis] GM says, "yes" [Crows-Nest] Lo says, "hee hee" Franklin says, "Well, well..."" Raul murmurs, "Latte, half-caf, demitasse --" Alexandra heads into the show GM says, "meanwhile, back at the cafe" Alexandra says, "(er, shop)" Raul says, "You know, a plain cup of coffee would be just fine." [nobilis] Tyoka says, "it is. I use "Limbus" as a term for "not in the game yet" here" GM says, "(sorry, will get to you in a sec, Alexandra)" Michel slumps back into his chair, and necks the remainder of his espresso [nobilis] jwalrus says, "oh, wait, different meaning of ..... right" Wilfred mutters, "foreclosure ... foreclosure ... if the bloody secretary could type, I'd know which establishment to knock on...." Penny steps into the cafe, and goes to order a latte. CafeGuy eventually emerges from the back room. "Ah, sorry, didn't expect to see all these customizers materializing" [nobilis] Raul says, "When you say 'Limbus' I think of public transport for smelly cheese." Gaston orders a double espresso. CafeGuy scratches his head. "Sorry, too much caffeine. Customers, that is." Penny politely waits her turn. CafeGuy says, "right, sir, coming up in a sec." CafeGuy asks (of Penny), "and you, miss? a latte?" [nobilis] Alexandra says (to gm), "no worries! I'm quite patient, and happy to just catch the flow of what's going on" Franklin looks at the spine and the inside cover. "18th century?" [nobilis] Raul says (to Alex), "That's no way to get ahead. Demand personal attention from the GM." [nobilis] Alex says (to Raul), "Okay, That is also no way to get ahead. Demand personal attention from the GM." Penny says (to cafeguy), "yes, please. with sugar." CafeGuy says (to Michel), "you want another of the same, sir? you've had three already, you know" [nobilis] Gaston says, "Hee hee." [nobilis] Raul says, "heh" [nobilis] Alexandra snickers [nobilis] Tyoka says, "also, I'm deliberately playing against cliche here. #1: NO GANGSTA RAP" [nobilis] jwalrus says, "ha" Owner says (to Franklin), "absolutely. I've got guarantees and a full history in back someplace" Michel flicks out a vanilla cigarette and lights it Franklin puts on a white cotton glove he keeps in his jacket pocket and starts to carefully flip through it. [nobilis] Alexandra says, "I unfortunately did not forsee that problem when I picked the name" Owner asks (of Alexandra), "ah, hello! looking for something -- like *this*?" [nobilis] jwalrus says (to tyoka), "despite your changed name, you are still making me confuse you with maga" Owner thrusts a small wooden voodoo-doll type thing, only made for an elephant, in Alexandra's general direction Michel nods at the cafe guy, holding out his cup elegantly [nobilis] Raul says, "Okay, Owner rocks." Franklin casts a sidelong glance at the owner, then continues perusing. Alexandra regards the doll with vague horror Alexandra says, "Um, no. But that spikey thing in the window..." CafeGuy says, "right, here you go then" [nobilis] Tyoka says (to jwalrus), "think of me as Token Negro" Raul finally remembers to lower his umbrella Penny takes her latte, and looks around for a seat CafeGuy hands out drinks to the appropriate people, walking over to trade Michel a full cup for an empty one Gaston exclaims (at Raul), "Watch where you are splashing with that, please!" Owner says (to Alexandra), "ah, yes, the puzzle" Michel blows a smoke ring, and regards it with the most interest he's given to anything all day Owner says, "that has an ... interesting ... behind it" Wilfred decides to stop for tea and call back to the bank. Owner says, "interesting story, that is" Alexandra asks, "puzzle?" Franklin calculates the book's worth to see how honest the owner is. Owner moves the metal links puzzle out of the way to reveal a small battered novel Raul looks over his shoulder at Gaston. "Sorry." He stows the golf umbrella in a side-pouch. Its handle sticks out about a foot behind him. Franklin notices the novel. Owner says (to Franklin), "ah, yes, *paper*" Franklin asks, "What's that you have there?" Owner says, "this thing is -- you will examine the copyright date" Owner pushes past Alexandra, almost knocking over the puzzle, and retrieves the novel. Alexandra anticipates the coming beeling, and scoots back a bit to clear the path between Franklin and the book [nobilis] Alexandra says, "beeline, even" Owner exclaims, "*20th century*! quite a find!" Owner says, ""All For Her Honor," I believe is the title" [Crows-Nest] Penny says, "if I wrote it, I shall laugh SO MUCH" [Crows-Nest] Gaston finally sees the pattern, laughs. Raul rolls over to a window and watches the rain while he drinks his coffee. Owner says, "you don't find De Suchards much these days .. at least, not in *this condition*" Franklin says, "Astounding, yes." [Crows-Nest] Alexandra says, "hee hee" [Crows-Nest] Penny says, "hahahahahahaha" [Crows-Nest] Raul exclaims, "Ha!" [Crows-Nest] Tyoka asks, "what century IS it?" [Crows-Nest] GM says, "it's may 2002" [Crows-Nest] DavidW says, "I assume present day." Gaston sits back outside, and looks at the pattern of condiments whoever-it-was made. [Crows-Nest] Tyoka says, "in that case, "snrk"" Penny looks out of the window, notices an interesting looking shop across the road. She decides to go look, as her latte is vile. GM says (to Raul), "you don't see much outside; everybody except a kid doing skateboard tricks in the alley has fled the streets, pretty much" Wilfred hustles into a convenient cafe and calls back to the bank. "What exactly is the address...?" Franklin asks, "You say you have papers on this one?" Alexandra says, "Hey, I read a couple De Suchard books in college. Well, not for classes." Alexandra wanders over to look at the book Franklin checks his watch. GM says (to Raul), "he stops for a drink of water from a nearby fountain, shakes his head, and spits it out, then goes back to drinking" Owner says (to Franklin), "ah, yes, *this one*" Owner rubs his hands together [Crows-Nest] Lo says, "Seattle. Present Day. It was another rainy night in Seattle, the kind you could fill your shot glass with in a second. The curio owner was up to something, I knew it, but I couldn't make it stick." Owner says, "excuse me for one moment as I head to the ... back room" Owner disappears into the back of the shop Franklin says, "I have an appointment --" Raul sips, and waits for the kid to slip and fall. Penny croses the road to the curio shop. Franklin harumphs and stands up. [Crows-Nest] Penny says, "crosses, even" GM says (to Raul), "the kid is *incredible*" Franklin checks out the window at the weather. GM says (to Raul), "you didn't think you could *go* sideways up a wall, shoot across the top, and slide down the other wall, then land on the ground" [Crows-Nest] Tyoka says, "Seattle. Same fucking city, same fucking rain. I was out on the street just waiting for a crime to happen. I hadn't killed in a long time, and the call for blood was within me." GM says, "but apparently you can" [nobilis] jwalrus says, "someone help me think of a plausibly italian surname" Michel pulls a collection of Racine from his pocket and leafs through it Franklin sets the book on the bench and puts his glove back in his pocket. Alexandra says (to Franklin), "have you ever read any of her books? THey're a bit cheesy, but better written than most of the genre tripe" Raul says, "Huh. Big city kids." [nobilis] ddyte says, "di Baggio" Penny overhears this, blinks. [nobilis] Gaston says, "Baggio." Franklin asks, "Sorry, are you addressing me, young lady?" [nobilis] Gaston says, "Timing." [nobilis] Tyoka says, "Bossi" Owner eventually emerges from the back room, waving a manila folder bulging with documents Owner exclaims, "the *papers*!" Alexandra says, "Yep. Alexandra Kettering, nice to meet you" [nobilis] Tyoka says, "Scorchioni" Alexandra sticks out her hand GM says (to Raul), "hey, rain's slacking off" [nobilis] jwalrus says, "that coincidence makes me *far* too suspicious" [nobilis] Michel says, "snrk" [nobilis] Tyoka says, "Baggio is a soccer player" [nobilis] Penny says, "Totti" Owner says (to Franklin), "now, if you will just step here into the *light*, I will show you the *papers*" Franklin says, "Franklin Merriman." Gaston starts sketching the curio shop and the people inside it on his napkin. [nobilis] ddyte says, "Chriswaddli" Owner says (to Alexandra), "aHEM. we are discussing the PAPERS" [nobilis] Penny says, "just because Totti is the stupidest name ever" Franklin says, "I'm afraid I am starting to run late --" Alexandra sighs and goes back to examining the puzzle [Crows-Nest] Lo asks, "Dude, this is one of those mothership things, isn't it?" Owner impatiently walks over to window, decides it's not light enough, and swings the door open Raul squints up at the sky suspiciously, not having much experience with a place where rain is common. [Crows-Nest] Tyoka asks, "?" Gaston frowns, erases the door on his sketch, tears the napkin, curses. Penny picks up the novel on the bench, and sighs. [Crows-Nest] Michel asks (of Raul), "and you were in Vietnam???" Franklin makes a big point of checking his watch a few times. GM says, "suddenly, there is what sounds like an explosion from the chinese restaurant" [Crows-Nest] Raul says (to Michel), "Well, but there you didn't worry about avoiding rain." GM says, "you all hear the sounds of shattering glass and spraying water" Wilfred drops the phone and looks out. Franklin says, "Really, the book is not in the best condition. You really should keep older materials under *strict* climate control." GM says, "looking out -- dear lord, one of the tanks is shattered, and lobsters are flying out into the street" Franklin says, "!!" Alexandra says, "*Shit*" Raul slides out of his wheelchair and onto the floor before he realizes it. [Crows-Nest] DavidW asks, "They're filming Existenz II there?" Penny says, "oh, no, those poor lobsters!"" Michel turns his gaze idly around GM says, "only, er, there are now several bathtubs full of water and the flow shows no sign of slackening" Penny heads out into the rain to try and help Gaston stands up, heads over there to see better. Franklin asks, "What happened?" Raul pulls himself back up and hopes no one noticed. GM says, "the people in the cafe are surprised to see the glass of water on the table outside is now a geyser of water blasting upwards" Alexandra dashes outside Michel blinks Franklin says, "Excuse me, excuse me." GM says, "it has reduced the umbrella over the table to scraps of cloth and is adding to the quickly-flowing pool on the ground" [Crows-Nest] DavidW says, "Water, water, everywhere." Franklin hobbles as fast as he can out of the shop. Gaston approaches the table and inspects it closely. Wilfred asks, "(into phone) hold on, I'll call back in a minute. Just find the address, got it?" GM asks, "and then, er -- is the ground *shaking*?" Wilfred steps out onto the street, umbrella up again. Raul backs up and maneuvers himself outside as fast as possible, rain or no rain. GM says, "seattle was due for an earthquake, but they were talking, like, 10 or 20 years from now" Michel stretches to his feet GM says, "but the buildings are definitely dancing" Penny falls over, and twists her ankle Franklin leans on the wall of the shop for support. Penny says, "oh darndarndarn" Gaston touches the geyser. Is it hot, cold, or what? CafeGuy asks, "what the hell?" [nobilis] jwalrus says, "ooh, yay" Michel offers Penny a hand Wilfred says, "good heavens." Franklin worries he won't make his appointment now. Penny gladly takes the hand of the stranger, and pulls herself up, wincing GM says (to Gaston), "it's ice-cold and faintly rough and blasting fast" Alexandra stands in the middle of the street, wondering which direction she should be running GM says, "random bricks and things are falling from one of the buildings, and then, with a groan, it collapses entirely, burying the street there in a pile of rubble" Owner looks around frantically. "My *papers*!" Penny says (to michel), "I don't think I can run, but I'll try" Owner waves his folder around hastily Franklin says, "Damn your papers, man!" Gaston says (to GM), "Is the glass still there? If so, I'll try to grab it." Alexandra helpfully exclaims "*shit*" once again Penny starts hobbling away from the collapsed building Franklin says, "Call an ambulance!" Michel strolls outside, assisting Penny Raul moves towards the geyser, coming alongside Gaston. GM says (to Gaston), "as soon as your finger grab the glass and lift it slightly, the water cuts off abruptly" Alexandra peers at the brick pile to see if anyone is obviously trapped Gaston says, "Awww." GM says, "the street is full of lobsters and water from the chinese restaurant, though" GM says, "and -- hrm" [nobilis] jwalrus says, "yay lobsters" Franklin pokes a lobster away with his cane. GM says, "things are still swaying, but it looks like the street is tipping inwards" [nobilis] Tyoka gets out his magnet. Penny says, "oh god, we're going to die" Raul says, "oh, *hell*" [nobilis] jwalrus asks, "also, is it too late for me to join in?" Gaston realises there's more going on, and backs away from the dangerous-looking bits. Penny starts hobbling faster Raul yells, "Get out of the street!" Franklin thinks, this is a hell of a way to go after 80 years. Gaston says, "I still have the glass, I guess." [nobilis] GM says (to jw), "you may get included later, but not now" [nobilis] DavidW says, "They'll all be dead in a few minutes." Alexandra fumbles in her bag for her cell phone, before realising she left it in New York Wilfred says, "...all i wanted was one decent workday is that too much to ask oh bloody 'ell..." Michel says (to Penny), "we are all going to die, madam, this is principally a matter of when" Gaston asks (of Raul), "Do you need a hand?" [nobilis] jwalrus says, "right, sure" Penny says (to michel), "very trite, but I'd rather delay it for a decade or two" Raul says, "As long as there's not too much rubble, I'll be okay." Raul says, "Though..." GM says, "so to recap here, the street is turning into a pit along most of its length -- one end is blocked by rubble and the other, in fact, has opened up an even more enormous pit" GM says, "and the pit is full of lobsters" Wilfred says, "(we're trapped?)" Penny says, "oh no, we're trapped" Raul reaches into a pack behind his wheelchair and brings out prosthetic feet. He starts strapping them onto his legs. GM says, "the chinese restaurant window's geyser shows no sign of stopping" Gaston asks (of GM), "Can I reach the alley that guy went into?" GM says (to Penny), "well, there are -- right" [nobilis] Franklin says, "mm, arthropods" GM says, "yeah, the alley is still open" Alexandra glances around for something to climb Gaston says, "I'll head that way, still with the magic glass." GM says, "it goes round a corner and the kid has disappeared, but it presumably leads someplace" Penny sees someone heading for an alleyway, and tugs michel in that direction. Raul finishes fiddling with the straps and hooks and such, then unstraps collapsable crutches from his chair. Franklin's knees are shooting with pain and about to give out. GM says (to Alexandra), "well, you could also go into one of the shops, since (with the street bending inwards) they're higher up" [Crows-Nest] Gaston exclaims (at Raul), "Yay!" [Crows-Nest] Penny says (to sarge), "your character rocks" [Crows-Nest] Raul says, "yay" [Crows-Nest] Tyoka exclaims, "Raul IS Marilyn Manson!" [Crows-Nest] Lo says, "Raul gets out the jetpack next" Owner is waving his folder around, when the wind picks up. A sudden breeze grabs one of the papers and sends it flying through the air, across the street to the cafe. Alexandra figures the street is a bad bet and hops back into the curio shop, mess that it now is Owner exclaims, "my *papers*!" Michel tosses his cigarette into the water, and looks around to see if everyone else is all right [Crows-Nest] Tyoka laughs, almost spilling drink all over the keyboard Owner, coming out, slams into Alexandra, coming in Franklin is reaching an old man's resignation to fate. Owner exclaims (at Alexanda), "dammit, my papers!" [nobilis] GM asks, "where are folks?" Raul says, "VA'll give me hell for losing the chair." Raul stands. Penny leaves michel to stare around, and enters the alleyway Alexandra says (to Owner), "I think they're a write-off, at this point" Wilfred drops his umbrella and makes a catch for the flying paper. [nobilis] Raul says, "I'm right outside the cafe, just getting mobile." [nobilis] Gaston says, "Belatedly following the water-guy I met at the start." [nobilis] Penny says, "following gaston" Franklin asks (of Alexandra), "Young lady, can you help me walk inside?" [nobilis] Tyoka says, "Still in Limbus" [nobilis] Michel says, "right now I'm more or less in the middle of the street, looking around to check that everybody's al right before I retreat" Alexandra says (to Franklin), "Sure, sorry ..." [nobilis] Franklin says, "I'm right outside the door of the curio shop still" Alexandra steps back out to help Franklin GM says (to Wilfred), "you snatch it out of the air just before it's yanked away again by the breeze" [nobilis] Franklin says, "I think. my sense of the geography is a bit shaky" [nobilis] Tyoka says, "it's not your sense, it's the geography itself" [nobilis] Alexandra says, "ha" Franklin says, "My knees aren't what they once were, thank you..." [nobilis] Michel says, "snrk" [nobilis] GM says, "there's a curio shop on one side of the street, a cafe and chinese restaurant on the other, an alley next to the curio shop leading away, and the street is developing a crack/sinkhole and is full of lobsters" Wilfred glances at the paper. [Crows-Nest] Lo says, "Your are in a maze of twisty Seattle streets, all alike" Alexandra says (to Frank), "Just lean on me, no worries" [nobilis] Trent has left the channel. Franklin asks, "I can't understand what's happening? Did a gas main explode?" [nobilis] Gaston says (to Trent), "YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE LOBSTERS" GM says (to Wilfred), "it is indeed part of the documentation for the authenticity of the pawnshop's journal" [nobilis] Raul asks, "Can you still make it from one side of the street to the other?" Franklin says, "Or a water main, perhaps." Wilfred . o O ( looks valuable ) [nobilis] GM says (to Raul), "it's shallower in some places, so yeah, if you move fast" [nobilis] Lo asks, "So, the Imperator that's coming in is the God of Lobsters?" Alexandra says, "Something must be up. I've never been in an earthquake, but I don't think they act like *that*" [nobilis] Trent has joined the channel. Michel heads back to help Raul Alexandra glances at the fissure and lobsters Owner looks around. "My paper! He's got it!" Wilfred tucks the paper inside a pocket, catches up his umbrella, and dashes across the street to the owner. Owner exclaims (at Wilfred), "give that back, you!" Franklin says, "I've been in an earthquake or two in my time, but I can't explain this." [nobilis] Penny says (to Gaston), "I am still following you, I think" Owner starts to walk out into the deepest part of the street, heedless of the lobsters Wilfred says (to Owner), "When we're somewhere safer, sure." [nobilis] Gaston says, "I am still following the man who made this miraculous glass." Raul says (to Michel), "Head for the alley. if you take the chair I'd appreciate it." [nobilis] Owner says, "yeah, I'll pick up with alley people in a bit" Franklin asks, "Where does that fool think he's going?" Wilfred asks (of Owner), "Does your shop have a back door?" Alexandra, watching the owner, comments "That better be an original of the Magna Carta or something, the way he's acting about that paper." Raul heads across the widening gap as fast as four appendages will take him. [Crows-Nest] Gaston says (to Alexandra), "Heh." Michel grabs the chair and propels it towards the alley Franklin says (to Alexandra), "Funny you should mention the original of the Magna Carta..." [Crows-Nest] Raul exclaims (at Franklin), "yay!" [Crows-Nest] Gaston exclaims (at Franklin), "Ha!" [Crows-Nest] Penny says, "heehee" Owner exclaims (at Alexandra), "ah, er, yes! into the alley!" [nobilis] Franklin says, "this is so far very confusing, Mr GM" Owner gestures vaguely to the back of the curio shop Alexandra says (to Franklin), "Can you still walk OK? I'll help" Franklin makes it as far as the bench. Franklin says, "I'll be fine, thank you again." [nobilis] Owner says, "it's going to get more/less confusing in a bit" [Crows-Nest] Penny says, "I am laughing way too much" Owner exclaims (at Franklin), "come along! I have more papers!" [nobilis] Franklin asks, "or should I attempt to go out the back way?" Owner grabs Franklin's arm and starts pulling him to the back [Crows-Nest] Gaston says, "Man, I didn't realise we had so many people of limited mobility here." [nobilis] Lo says, "once people start being deities, I would think 'more'" Raul makes it to the opening of the alley, a lobster hanging from one crutch. Alexandra says, "Well, then, I think we'd best head for this alley and get the hell away from whatever is going on out there" Franklin says, "Unhand me, Sir!" [Crows-Nest] Tyoka says, "IRTA crotch" Raul says, "At least i have lunch." [Crows-Nest] Michel says, "didn't we all" [Crows-Nest] Owner says, "har" Franklin takes a glance at the street. "Perhaps you're right." [Crows-Nest] Gaston says, "They'd better shape up as Gods, or we're going to look pretty stupid, is all I can say." Franklin summons his fortitude. Alexandra scoots out the door, gesturing at Franklin to follow Wilfred steps inside the shop, closes his umbrella and starts on a brisk stride towards the back of the shop. GM says, "meanwhile, in the alley" [nobilis] Gaston says, "Woohoo." GM says, "the alley takes a bend around and then opens onto a street. This street is also showing signs of earthquake, although not as much" Michel reaches the alley, returns the chair absently to Raul, and lights another cigarette Gaston says, "I'm still looking for signs of this guy, rather than somewhere safe." GM says, "what attracts your attention, though, is the figure standing by the subway entrance, waving to attract your attention" Penny steps out into the street, and looks across the road for another alleyway Gaston asks (of GM), "Who is it?" Figure exclaims, "over here! quickly!" Gaston says, "If I can't tell, I guess I start going towards the figure." GM says, "(the ground shakes again. a drinking fountain by the subway entrance suddenly starts shooting water straight into the air)" Michel curses as he realises he left his Racine in the coffee shop Figure isn't recognizable as somebody familiar on closer viewing, either Penny desperately scans the opposite side of the road for more alleyways Gaston asks (of Figure), "Who are you?" Alexandra repeats her favourite epitaph Figure says (to Gaston), "you'll be calling be Shapagir. Please go down and get on the train" Figure says (to Gaston), "and quickly, time grows short" Michel moves out into the next street Owner is staggering along, bringing up the rear with Franklin Raul heads down the alley, trying to keep his chair with him. Gaston asks (of Figure), "Where is the man who made this water appear?" Alexandra steps back to prop an arm under Franklins' Franklin manages to summon the pace of a 68 year old man. [Crows-Nest] Alexandra says, "hee" Wilfred pauses, waiting for the owner and the other people beside him. Figure points vaguely westwards. "Thataway. Some miles. But if you just get down --" Alexandra asks (of Owner), "know of anywhere in the area likely to be more fortified?" Penny looks behind her, sees many people following behind Owner exclaims, "eh? fortified? oh -- my papers!" Gaston looks west, musingly. Owner looks back, anguished Raul looks around. "Where's the skateboarder? Anyone seen a skateboarding kid?" Alexandra sighs Owner says, "I've got to go back for them" Owner lets go of Franklin's arm and turns to head back into the alley Michel asks (of Owner), "what are they?" Alexandra calls after Owner, "Don't be nuts! whatever they are they aren't worth it" Franklin mutters something crusty. Wilfred exclaims (at Owner), "Hey ... HEY!" GM says (to Raul), "the figure is waving to you as you emerge from the alley. "The kid's down here! You come too! Hurry!"" Michel says, "dieu." Owner is hurrying off -- you can go after him if you're quick [nobilis] Franklin asks, "how far are alexandra and I from this subway action?" Michel chases after the owner Wilfred thrusts his umbrella, newspaper and briefcase into Alex's arms and dashes back after the Owner. [Crows-Nest] Lo says, "besides, Alexandra will soon be able summon all the money you need to buy another one" Figure continues attempting to herd people downstairs Penny sees people heading for the subway, decides that's as safe a place as any. Raul drags himself and his chair towards the Figure. [nobilis] Figure says, "it's a short alley -- once you go around the corner you can see what's going on" [nobilis] Franklin says, "I assume we've turned the corner at least by now" Owner is caught up short by Wilfred. "My papers! I've got to go back for them! And my skull-stick!" [nobilis] Owner says, "yes" Gaston asks (of Figure), "Hide from water in a subway?" Wilfred says, "I'm sure insurance will cover everything." Figure looks impatient. "*This* subway isn't staying here" Gaston exclaims (at Figure), "You'll drown us!" Alexandra tries to manager her new debris, and Franklin Michel grabs the Owner's arm and helps Wilfred escort him back [Crows-Nest] (from DavidW) Figure says, "The water's afraid of the dark. Trust me." GM says, "another figure comes out of the subway. Dark and slender and more or less female." GM says, "(her name happens to be Vona)" Vona looks around impatiently. "What's the delay?" Franklin says (to Alexandra), "I might be able to manage a short distance on my own. My old ticker is pumping pretty good right now." Gaston says (to female), "'allo." Vona asks, "where's Bart? He was supposed to be coming along?" Alexandra says, "Glad to hear it." Penny asks (of Vona), "you want us to go down the subway too?" Vona asks (of Alexandra), "you! where's the pawnshop owner?" Wilfred says (to Michel), "Thank you, sir." Vona exclaims (at Penny), "yes, of course. and hurry!" Gaston says, "Why are people going into the subway? This is mad." Alexandra says (to Vona), "Um, hi. Back there somewhere. Freaking out about papers" Penny gives in, limps down the steps slowly. [Crows-Nest] Lo says, "It's the subway to HELL" Vona looks around impatiently. "I cannot believe you--" Franklin says, "That man's papers aren't worth the paper they're printed on." Gaston asks, "I don't understand these earthquake things. Are we not supposed to stay outside?" Vona says (to Michel), "ah, good, bring him along" Wilfred drags the guy back to where he left his umbrella with Alex. Vona says, "now then" [Crows-Nest] Alexandra glances at the book next to the computer: JOURNEY INTO FEAR, and other great storries of horror on the railways [Crows-Nest] Tyoka says, "John Carpenter's Subway to Hell, surely" Franklin says, "As long as there is nothing over your head that can fall on you, being outside is not a terrible place to be in an earthquake." [Crows-Nest] Tyoka says, "also, Horror on the Orient Express" Vona looks around, sees everyone has arrived at last, and continues herding folks down into the subway. She is surprisingly strong for someone this slight. Michel says, "This is why I always avoid conferences." [nobilis] Franklin asks, "oog, is there a working escalator?" Raul says, "If someone could help me with this--" Alexandra glances around to see if anything looks likely to tumble GM says, "The ground shakes again, and the fountain redoubles" Wilfred says, "I say. The Subway? That seems a little ... irregular." Raul thumps the side of his chair. Gaston asks (of Franklin), "But in the subway there are tunnels and cramped spaces and -- hey! Why are you pushing me?" Alexandra says, "Do earthquakes usually go on this *long*? I thought they lasted a few seconds, usually" GM says, "Vona and Shapagir lock eyes for a minute, shake their heads, and -- er, *carry* the remainding people down underground" Penny calls from below, "hey, is anyone else coming down here?" Gaston asks (of Raul), "You, too, want to go into the tunnels?" Michel asks, "We are doomed. Cigarette, anyone?" GM says, "a bit unlikely, really" Penny says (to michel), "oh yes" Wilfred exclaims, "OOoooff!" Gaston exclaims (at Vona,Shapapir), "Eagh!" Franklin almost slips and falls. Wilfred asks (of Alex), "...by the way, could I have my umbrella and briefcase back....?" Raul says, "Dear god." Alexandra exclaims, "Hey!" GM says, "downstairs they herd you onto the train, including Bart, and the doors slide shut" Alexandra manages in the melee to pass Wilfred his stuff [nobilis] Gaston asks, "Who's Bart -- oh, the Owner?" [nobilis] GM says, "(those of you from seattle will recall there is no subway)" Wilfred exclaims, "This is an outrage!" [nobilis] GM says, "(yes)" [nobilis] Lo says, "I was thinking that the entire time" [nobilis] Penny says, "I was wondering if there was a subway here" [nobilis] Lo says, "(re: no subway)" Vona sighs, and looks relieved. "At last." Raul says, "Oh, right." [nobilis] Tyoka says, "oooOOOooo" Vona says (to Shapagir), "now then, let's get going." Franklin mops his grimaced brow with a silk handkerchief. Penny asks, "when did they build a subway here?" Raul says, "In a short time I will wake up with a thorazine headache." [Crows-Nest] Alexandra blissfully assumes *everywhere* civilized has a subway [nobilis] Lo says, "there's a scenario in Railroad Tycoon II where you build a public transportation system for Seattle" Vona says (to Penny), "it's not going to be here for much longer" Gaston is very suspicious, and inspects Vona and Shagapir closely. Franklin looks at Penny with mild astonishment. Gaston asks (of Vona,Shagapir), "Who are you?" Franklin says, "There isn't an underground in Seattle!" Raul says, "Don't worry: you're all part of my hallucination." Penny asks (of vona), "if it's going to collapse, why did you make us get on?" GM says, "the train stops after a short distance, and Vona and Shapagir herd everyone out." Michel smirks to himself at Raul's comment Alexandra says (to Raul), "that's the most reassuring thing I've heard so far" Gaston says (to Raul), "I know very well when I am hallucinating, thank you." Vona says, "here we are, at last." Franklin's legs hurt to much for this to be a fantasy. Vona says, "welcome to the rest of your lives" Michel offers cigarettes around GM says, "[end]" Penny looks around Wilfred asks, "There isn't what??" Penny asks, "pfeh, we don't even know where we are?" DavidW asks, "[end]?" Franklin asks, "Could there be a little less herding and moving and walking?" Alexandra clutches her bag, figuring this life sounds like one in which her remaining advil will come in handy GM says, "congratulations, you are all still alive" Penny says, "only just" GM says, "which is an important prerequisite for the rest of this session" Raul laughs. Tyoka asks, "it's over?" Lo says, "Nobody picked a 'Dead' attribute to their character, I guess" Michel says (to GM), "no shit" [Crows-Nest] jwalrus says, "man, getting killed in the earthquake woulda sucked" GM says (to Tyoka), "the play session's over, yeah" [nobilis] Michel says, "ah, and the CD finished right on cue" Franklin says, "that was shorter than I was expecting somehow" GM says, "at least, unless we have time to do a bit more after character stuff" Gaston says, "Okay, that was fun. Gaston is incredibly annoyed, and Iain is laughing at him." Michel says, "now we get to make our chancel and crap" Alexandra exclaims, "whee!" GM says, "so the next thing I'd like to do is go over the system, which is mostly review for you people, and then, right, make the chancel and imperators" Gaston asks (of Michel), "In that order?" [nobilis] Tyoka says, "and I put on the Apocalyptica DVD! ... oh" [nobilis] Lo says, "Chancel Making For Beginners" GM says, "and, most importantly, sort out when we're going to be playing" [nobilis] Tyoka says, "easy" [nobilis] Tyoka says, "@makechancel #name" GM says, "so, um, let's see" GM says, "there are four traits: aspect, domain, realm, and spirit" [nobilis] Lo says, "@set me=deity" GM says, "aspect covers everyone normal people do, physically and mentally" [nobilis] Tyoka says, "@flagchancel #chancel = person : imperator" GM says, "domain is your skill with whatever your domain is, realm is your power at home, and spirit is your skill with, hmm, nobilis things" GM says, "there are different levels of miracles, generally 0-9" GM says, "you can do anything at or below your attribute level for free" GM says, "for anything above that, you have to pay the difference in miracle points, of which you have 5 for each trait" GM says, "apparently the hip thing is to abbreviate the miracle points for the traits as AMP, DMP, RMP, and SMP, so that's what I'm going to do" GM says, "the only complicated thing about spending miracle points to do something above your attribute level is you can only spend 1, 2, 4, or 8 points" GM says, "so if something is 3 above your trait, you have to spend 4" Gaston says, "Yikes." Alexandra says, "weird" GM says, "this is mostly designed to make higher stuff a bigger deal" Lo says, "Deities work only in binary." GM says, "so yeah, anything 5-8 costs 8" GM says, "hee hee" Gaston says, "Hm, fair enough." Raul says (to Lo), "heh" Tyoka says (to lo), "well, 'de'-ities" jwalrus has disconnected. jwalrus has connected. GM says, "and there is an additional penalty for spending 8 points, viz, you take a wound" Gaston says (to Tyoka), "Heh." Tyoka asks (of GM), "how do you spend 8 when you only have 5?" Alexandra asks (of GM), "wait, wouldn't something of say, 6, cost 2 if you have level 4?" Penny says (to GM), "yow" GM says (to Alexandra), "right, exactly" Michel says (to Tyoka), "you can get extra ones" Gaston asks (of GM), "That's a 'mot de power', right?" Gaston says, "Or Word of Command, I forget." GM says, "you can either get extra points from limitations, or transfer them from your other traits' miracle points, which I'll get into later" GM says, "right, 'word of command' is the term for the spending-8-point version" jwalrus asks, "you can buy extra MPs as part of character creation, too, right?" GM says (to Alexandra), "but if you have level 4 and want to do a level 9 thing, it'll cost you 8 points" Alexandra says, "gotcha" GM says (to jwalrus), "yeah, but (apparently) none of the sample characters do this, so it seems like it's not worth it" GM says, "but you can buy extra points for one character point per miracle point" Alexandra asks, "how often do the points refresh?" Tyoka says, "whenever you press f5" GM says, "the points refresh every "adventure", normally, which I figure is about every three sessions" GM says, "at that time you get extra points from limitations, also" Michel says, "hmm. thing is, though, it means that once you have the points to do a miracle 5 above your level, you might as well do one 8 above your level" GM says, "you can also refresh in-play when a handicap comes up" GM says (to Michel), "yes, that too" GM says, "so if you have the "can'" Alexandra asks, "so, we basically head into every escapade with 5 points in each catagory to spend?" Gaston asks, "Are points pegged at a maximum (5?), or can you hoard as many as you want?" GM says, "er, "can't use modern technology" handicap and a time comes up when it'd be really nice to be able to fire a gun, you get a miracle point" Tyoka exclaims, "and then you Summon Flechettes. Whee!" Lo cries, "My kung fu is useless against their guns!" GM says (to Gaston), "hrm, I think you can hoard as many as you want, but not across adventures" GM says (to Alexandra), "right" Michel says (to Lo), "not with a high kung-fu aspect. I think Aspect 4 or 5 can dodge bullets" Tyoka asks, "but what do you actually _do_ in the game?" Lo says (to Michel), "I was just quoting Once Upon a Time in China" [nobilis] jwalrus says, "hm, I wonder what I can do with these extra 7 character points I was gonna spend on MPs" Franklin says, "guns are modern technology? hm" GM says, "the basic miracle levels 0-9 are discussed at http://www.cs.utah.edu/~cms/gaming/ry_synopsis.html" Tyoka asks, "I mean, it's diceless, no?" Franklin says, "I shouldn't be able to use a subway then!" GM says (to Franklin), "well, we can work out something extra for your limitation" [nobilis] Penny asks, "gifts? more attribute points?" GM says, "special note should be given to two aspect miracles, the sight and guising" Gaston says (to Franklin), "That's why we had to push you on, you creaky old man." [nobilis] jwalrus says, "hey, I could bump my aspect up to 5!" GM says, "the sight is a level 0 aspect miracle, so everyone can do it for free" Franklin says, "yes, and I have aspect 0, so I'm not going to get any speedier" DavidW says (to Franklin), "You weren't ennobled yet, anyway." GM says, "it's your power to identify other disguised nobilis and their anchors, that kind of thing" [nobilis] Michel says, "you could. it'd leave you with 10 points for everything else, though" [nobilis] Lo says, "Think of how that would boost your Quake skills" [nobilis] Franklin says, "I thought about doing a 5, just so that there'd be a character who had a 5 in something" GM says, "so, eg, you could have used the sight to identify Shapagir and Vona as imperators, if you'd had the sight at the time" GM says, "the other aspect miracle of special note is guising, which is a level 2 miracle" Gaston says, "Both of them? Yikes." [nobilis] jwalrus says, "hey, I've picked up some extra points on this charsheet somewhere" GM says, "(so it costs 1 point for people with aspect 1, 2 points for people with aspect 0)" Raul says, "good thing I made them bring my damn chair, then." Franklin says, "it does? oops" Gaston says (to Raul), "Heh." [nobilis] Lo asks, "When Raul becomes a deity does his wheelchair get surface-to-air missiles?" Franklin says, "that means I did it wrong" GM says, "this is used for letting you blend in -- basically, if you're in a foreign place (country or planet), it lets you look like a native inhabitant" Gaston asks, "As opposed to...?" GM says (to Gaston), "your natural form" Gaston asks, "Whatever we normally look like?" Gaston says, "Aha." Michel says, "or what we look like as nobles" GM says, "so if you're, like, a dragon, and you come to seattle, you might turn into, I dunno, a banker wearing a dragon necklace or something if you guise" Gaston says, "Unless you're a dragon with Aspect 1." GM says, "this is obviously mostly useful for people non-human-natural-forms" Gaston says, "But then that'd be a pretty crappy dragon." jwalrus asks, "how long does the guise last?" GM says (to Gaston), "well, you can still guise, but it'll cost you points" GM says (to jw), "until you change back" GM says, "also, guising doesn't actually *disguise* you from people who know you're around" Franklin says, "I dunno, I gave myself a high spirit, and there were various sections that said that having that makes you Stand Out Weirdly" jwalrus asks, "so if you have aspect 0, you only have to pay the points once to do it for ages?" GM says, "so you turn into a form that looks like you, only, like, different" GM says (to jw), "yes, but if you drop the form, it costs again" GM says, "actually, sorry, strike that" GM says, "it's a sustained miracle" GM says, "so you can sustain it indefinitely, but you can't do any miracles that cost miracle points while sustaining it" Franklin says, "but I'm one point short to get it, so that means I have one extra point floating around" GM says, "so, hmm" Michel asks, "even if it's free?" Penny says (to GM), "yow, that's nasty" GM says (to Franklin), "you could get another gift" GM says (to Michel), "yeah, even if it's free" GM says (to Michel), "but you can do the other miracle, then change back" jwalrus says (to michel), "hide round the corner, drop the guise, do the miracle, guise again" Michel says, "I suppose it makes sense that if you start throwing miracles about you have to drop the guise" Franklin says, "I guess I'll have to. Or maybe I don't have to" GM says, "hmm" Gaston says (to everybody), "So go for Aspect 2 if you want to do the Guise thing a lot." Franklin says, "I didn't see another gift that really fit in with what I was going for for the character" GM says, "the role of the traits are all pretty straightforward, I think" GM says, "but realm and spirit take a bit more explanation" Michel says (to Gaston), "nah, I just want to hit people and watch them fly through the air" Gaston says, "Heh." GM says, "part of the concept is, when you're interacting with other nobilis, it's like you're the ruling family of some small kingdom interacting with other ruling families" GM says, "so your realm score determines the, hmm, formal respect they owe you" Alexandra says, "All hail Jota" Franklin asks, "is he (she) the realm 4?" GM says, "your spirit score is your force of spirit (as distinguished from your force of personality, note, which is a mortal thing -- this is talking about the divine spirit that you have as part of being a nobilis)" Penny says (to franklin), "realm 3" Gaston says, "Kind of odd that the people with high Realm are going to be lower in other respects." Alexandra says (to Franklin), "3. So, all 'cept you hail Jota" Gaston says, "Though it makes sense in terms of points, obviously." Franklin says, "I have realm 0" Gaston says (to Franklin), "Ditto." Michel says (to Gaston), "they're admin." Wilfred was doing Realm 0, too... Gaston says (to Michel), "Heh." GM says, "in addition, your realm score is used for doing any miracle in your realm, and your spirit score determines a number of things, including your resistance to miracles (called your auctoritas) and your ability to do nobilis magic (including taking anchors, of which you can have your spirit + 1)" Michel's realm 1 doesn't seem so abysmal any more Penny says (to wolfred), "go ahead, don't worry about it." Penny says, "wolf? wilf" Gaston exclaims, "Power of Lynching!" GM says, "your auctoritas is an invisible aura that surrounds you for about three feet in every direction" GM says, "all nobilis are immune to all direct miracles from other nobilis" GM says, "so, like, the power of fire can't make other nobilis catch on fire" Michel says (to GM), "no, that's just smoke, sorry" GM says, "but he can make the tree they're standing on catch on fire, and then a few seconds later that's not a miraculous fire, it's a real fire, and if the other nobilis doesn't look snappy he's going to catch on fire" Franklin asks, "can I turn their pants into paper?" Alexandra says, "cool" Gaston says (to Franklin), "Only if they're really really baggy." Lo asks, "Are the clothes considered part of a nobilis?" Michel asks, "can I make their pants empty?" Gaston says (to Franklin), "So you can take out clowns, yeah." GM says, "hrm, I think this immunity covers their direct possesions, unless it's, like, a long-ass ladder they're carrying" GM says, "but then aside from that, your auctoritas makes it more difficult for even indirect miracles to succeed" jwalrus says (to gm), "huh, I'm sure one of the web pages you pointed people to said that your auctoritas also protects you from the indirect effects of miracles" Franklin says, "ok" Wilfred asks, "If it's Wednesday, can I declare that Wednesday is laundry day and their pants aren't available?" [nobilis] jwalrus says, "heh, timing" GM says, "specifically, if someone tries to do a miracle against you in your auctoritas, it's made more difficult by your spirit score" [nobilis] jwalrus says, "bah, dlac" Lo says (to Wilfred), "yay" GM says, "so, eg, if someone tries to create fire under your feet, and you have spirit 3, the creation miracle goes from level 3 to level 6" GM says, "and if they don't have a sufficiently high level, the miracle fails" Gaston says (to GM), "I'm not sure I see the distinction between that and a 'direct miracle'." GM says (to Gaston), "direct = make you catch on fire indirect = make something next to you catch on fire" Gaston asks (of GM), "Okay, so there are three categories? Directly at me, inside my aura, outside my aura?" GM says, "right, exactly" Gaston says, "Okay." GM says, "so, to get around auctoritas, you can put points in for "penetration", which counteracts the auctoritas" Michel exclaims, "you will respect my auctoritas!" GM says, "if you do a level 3 miracle against someone with spirit 3, normally they'd be protected; but if you have a 3+ penetration, it blows through their auctoritas and goes ahead normally" jwalrus asks, "if you're standing in a field of hay and someone sets the hay four feet away on fire and then it spreads, does your auctoritas protect you?" [Crows-Nest] Penny asks, "do I need to point out that 'penetration' SD?" GM says (to jwalrus), "no, because at that point it's a normal fire" [Crows-Nest] Gaston asks (of Penny), "Doesn't stop you using it in your books, does it?" GM says, "so it would protect the hay within your auctoritas for a few seconds, but then it'd catch on fire from the rest of the hay" [Crows-Nest] Penny says, "touche" GM says, "penetration costs one point per point" [Crows-Nest] (from Michel) Penny says, "but never with that few adjectives" GM says, "so, eg, if you have a 5 domain, you can do a level 3 miracle + 2 penetration and pay no points" [Crows-Nest] Penny says, "heh" GM says, "if you want to do 3 penetration, you'd need to spend a miracle point" GM says, "(since 5+1 = 3+3)" Gaston says, "Right." GM says, "I think that's the extent of the miracle rules" Michel says, "me likey" GM says, "damage I covered gently and we'll get to that more later" Tyoka asks, "can we just quickly get to play time?" Gaston says, "Hm, yeah, it's kind of late." jwalrus is trying to reconcile this with the passage from Nobilis 101 about throwing trucks at people. GM says, "the only other stuff is the general philosophy of the nobilis, and I think I may save that and put up a webpage or let you guys read the existing pages about it" Tyoka says, "I would be Extremely Happy if sunday were possible" GM says, "so, right" Lo says, "Sorry, we can only control Wednesdays." GM says, "the other thing we need to do is design the chancel and the imperator" Wilfred says, "yay" GM says, "but first, play times" Michel says, "chaaaanceeeeel" GM asks, "how do you guys want to split up?" Tyoka says, "Chancellor Palpatine" GM says, "I'm planning on running one saturday group and one sunday group" Penny says, "how about a saturday group and a sunday... right" Lo says, "Make it a casino and call it the Chancel of Chance" Gaston asks, "What sort of time on sunday?" Michel says, "I'm good whenever, happy to move around as suits group size" GM says, "I'm flexible as to morning/afternoon/evening" Wilfred likes a Saturday evening. GM says, "although not too early morning/afternoon, since I'm in a weird time zone" Gaston says, "Saturday would have to be this time for us." Tyoka says, "sunday my afternoon would be most excellent" Wilfred asks, "oh wait, Saturday morning is available?" GM asks (of Tyoka), "what would that be for east coast or me?" Gaston asks, "Can we all translate into, I dunno, EST?" Tyoka asks, "ok, it's now 7:40 EST, right?" GM says (to Wilfred), "*my* saturday morning, which would be, I dunno, 1pm EST" Alexandra says, "Saturdar moring would be cool. Tho my morning is very different than Iain's morning" Gaston says (to Tyoka), "Yup." Tyoka says, "which is 1:40 AM my time" Wilfred says, "oh" Gaston says, "EST and mudtime, in fact." Tyoka says, "so you're six hours behind" Tyoka says, "if I calculated correctly" jwalrus asks (of tyoka), "inky is a further three behind that, no?" Raul says, "Best times for me are Saturday afternoon, 4:30 or 5 pm EST on; and Sunday afternoon, 1pm on." Alexandra says, "yep" Michel afks to make coffee. Tyoka says, "aiee" Alexandra says, "Saturday afternoon 4:30 EST -> is also good for me" Tyoka says, "I'd be good from anything 3pm my time" Gaston says, "Best times for us are saturdays around 6pm EST, or about any time on sunday." Tyoka says, "which is, er, 6 am inkytime and 9am mudtime :)" GM says (to Tyoka), "just a *bit* early" Alexandra says (to Gaston), "I can't believe y'all aren't falling asleep at this hour" Lo says (to GM), "just pretend you're on a farm" Penny says (to Alexandra), "TEA SUSTAINS US" Alexandra asks, "can we keep this current slot, then, for one game? 6pm Sat?" [nobilis] Jearl has joined the channel. Alexandra says, "(6pm EST)" Penny says, "yeah, that'll work for us" Gaston says, "I like this slot." Tyoka says (to inky), "Well, I said anything starting from then" jwalrus says, "hey, I could probably make early evening EST on a sunday fairly consistently, but I left it damn late to say so so don't worry about me" Gaston says, "I guess we could do 5pm too." Tyoka says, "the problem is that your 1pm is already my 10pm" GM says, "well, this is fine for one slot, then" GM asks, "so possibly something earlier on sunday afternoon?" GM asks, "or is that less convenient?" jwalrus asks, "when's earlier?" GM asks, "I dunno, 3pm eastern?" Wilfred says, "I'd prefer to keep my Sunday free. For Saturday/Sunday, it's pretty much today's slot or never." GM says, "well, it sounds like some folks are doing today's slot" GM says, "I'm just wondering about the other half" Tyoka says, "3pm eastern would be excellent" Franklin says, "just to be confusing on a different axis, I probably won't be able to make it on the weekend of july 6-7" jwalrus asks, "is anyone actually doing sunday?" Tyoka says, "on sunday" Gaston says, "We could do sunday." Wilfred says, "Oh yeah." Gaston says, "It was kind of busy today, though that made it fun sometimes." Raul has disconnected. Raul has connected. Wilfred says, "I'm gone from about the 8th of July until ... um ... the 5th of August." Franklin says (to wilfred), "hrm" Raul says, "grf" Penny says, "hmm, I'd prefer this slot to an earlier sunday one, but yeah, we can do either" GM says, "oh, right, in terms of playtimes, I'm running this every day that's convenient for me (which is two of every three weekends, not the weekend the mareilon runs on)" Tyoka says (to Wilfred), "grr" Franklin asks, "which weekends are mareilon weekends?" GM says, "if you can show up, great, otherwise we play anyway" GM says, "this weekend would normally be a mareilon weekend but whizzard's taking off. so we'll play the next two weekends and then skip the third" Gaston says, "Cool." Franklin says, "hey, that's perfect" jwalrus asks, "are you going to try to make each play session self-contained at all, so that folks end up back at chancel or whatever afterwards?" GM says, "I'm not sure yet. I'll try, since that'll make things easier, but I dunno how it's going to go" GM says, "so, right" Gaston says, "If somebody doesn't show up, we can just make occasional references to how he was suddenly called up into the army, and take phone calls from him and stuff, like they do in soap operas." Franklin says, "heh" GM drops Saturday 6pm EST group. GM drops Sunday 3pm EST group. GM says, "sign the one you want" Franklin signed Saturday 6pm EST group. Penny signed Saturday 6pm EST group. Alexandra signed Saturday 6pm EST group. Gaston signed Saturday 6pm EST group. Raul signed Saturday 6pm EST group. Wilfred signed Saturday 6pm EST group. jwalrus says, "aw, I don't have a character to sign with" Franklin says, "the usual suspects" Michel says, "snrk" Tyoka signed Sunday 3pm EST group. Franklin asks, "are we allowed to read the logs of the other group?" Kori signed Saturday 6pm EST group. GM says, "yeah, I think so" Alexandra says, "I would guess if duchess and katre play, they'll pick Saturday, to avoid echoball conflicts" Ghogg says (to Franklin), "only if you don't get sealed off by a rockslide" Gaston asks, "Will the other group be playing an identical campaign?" GM says, "um" Franklin wonders how Kori enters the story jwalrus signed Sunday 3pm EST group. GM says, "both the groups are going to be in the same world" Tyoka asks, "so, er, nobody plays sunday?" Franklin asks, "what's echoball?" (From Ghogg) GM says, "One of them has lots of ferrets, the other, monkeys." Penny says, "well, TS will do sunday" GM says, "(Kori tagged along dutifully behind everyone, since Emily didn't bring her laptop along)" Alexandra says, "well, we have a fair # of absentee people" Gaston says (to GM), "It'd be cool if there were two storied with crossovers, but I figure that'd be a lot of work for you." Penny says, "and I think Jota wants sunday, too" Gaston says (to Kori), "Aw." Alexandra says (to Frankin), "softball in central park, with neil & Amp & others" Tyoka asks, "is there going to be someting tomorrow?" Franklin says, "oh ah" Michel signed Sunday 3pm EST group. GM says, "right, so let's say these are the groups as they are, and if I need to see if people can switch (because it's horribly unbalanced or whatever) I'll ask" Gaston says, "Sunday is so the Euro session." jwalrus says (to gaston), "traitor" Franklin says, "heh" Tyoka says, "I say, old chap" GM says, "however, given that sunday's small at the moment, I think we'll hold off on doing chancel/imperator stuff for them" Ghogg says, "We need the deity of Currency with us on Sunday, then" Penny says, "hey, my character's living in seattle. I do not care for UK times" Franklin asks (of GM), "hold off like what?" Michel says, "to be fair, I'd rather saturday, but if this makes life easier" GM says, "saturday folks, on the other hand, should look at http://www.drizzle.com/~dans/nobilis/chancel.html and http://www.drizzle.com/~dans/nobilis/imperator.html" Franklin says, "oho aha" GM says (to Michel), "sign the one you want, and if I need to I'll ask you to switch later" Michel says, "and sunday folks will anyway" Penny says, "hmmm" Michel says (to GM), "have done" GM says, "so, basically, although in-game the imperator obviously has created you guys and the chancel you live in, as a meta-game thing, you'll be designing them" Michel says, "ur, no I haven't" Raul has disconnected. Raul has connected. Penny says, "okay, should we be kind of tallying points" Ghogg says, "oo. Cosmic." GM says, "right, so, for the chancel, you get points equal to the sum of the five highest realm scores" GM says, "(sunday folks, I think you're done for the session -- you can stay and watch if you want, of course)" Penny says, "so my 2 is helpful, then" GM says, "probably yes" Gaston says, "This is where we all curse our crappy Realm scores." Penny says, "hey, do I have the highest realm? excellent." Franklin doesn't quite get the -1 points thing Michel says (to GM), "well, if I'm switching then chancel stuff will get complicated" Alexandra says, "I have 1, which is likely in the five highest" Penny says, "I RULE YOU ALL" GM says (to Michel), "yeah, but I'll work it out later" Tyoka says, "this is where I laugh because I have 2 realm" Gaston says (to Franklin), "I think they're flaws in the chancel." Ghogg says, "Penny is the BOSS OF YOU" Penny says (to tyoka), "so does jota." GM says (to Franklin), "right, what he said" Gaston asks, "Are we designing the Saturday Chancel right now?" Tyoka exclaims, "Out chancel will be more powerful than you can ever imagine!" GM says, "yes we are" Gaston asks, "If so, what points do we have?" Michel signed Saturday 6pm EST group. Tyoka says, "Our, even" Alexandra asks, "what do we do about MIA people, like Jota?" GM says (to Alexandra), "stick them in saturday and hope it works out" GM says, "er, in sunday" Gaston has 0 Realm. Oops. GM says, "which we'll be designing later (ie, next sunday)" Ghogg signed Sunday 3pm EST group. Tyoka asks (of GM), "any game/chancel design tomorrow?" [nobilis] Jearl asks, "so, have any seesions been played yet?" Wilfred says, "Presumably they're not here because they couldn't do Saturday." Franklin also has 0 realm. [nobilis] Gaston says (to Jearl), "One, just there." [nobilis] Franklin says, "that's what's going on now" [nobilis] Ghogg says, "Yeah, everyone went on the subway to hell" Wilfred says, "0 here." GM says, "well, some of them have other conflicts" [nobilis] Franklin says, "or sort of" [nobilis] Jearl says, "DOH" Alexandra says, "sheesh, we're only gonna be able to afford a crap chancel" GM says, "that happened to be today but not regularly" Michel says, "1 Realm" Penny says, "2 realm" [nobilis] Alexandra says (to Jearl), "is not too late to hop in" Ghogg says, "Chancel type: cardboard box" Wilfred says (to GM), "I know ... lpsmith and sara...." [nobilis] Raul says, "There were plenty of people not here, so you can still join in" Gaston says, "Hee hee." Penny says, "(haha I win)" Michel says, "we can get disadvantages for our chancel" Michel says, "it will suck" Tyoka asks (of GM), "tomorrow or next sunday?" Michel likes an empty chancel GM says (to Tyoka), "next sunday, I think" Tyoka wants to go to bed. Jearl arrives, looking for booty. Gaston says (to Michel), "Heh" Tyoka says (to GM), "aw, ok" Penny says (to michel), "screw that, I need 'em to speak" Wilfred says, "Well, if I move a point over from Domain to Realm.........." [nobilis] Jearl asks, "what's the observer channel?" Gaston exclaims (at Jearl), "Do you have a character with high Realm? Join our chancel!" [nobilis] GM says, "this" [nobilis] Alexandra says, "and crows nest" [nobilis] Gaston says, "People were using #Crows-nest too." [nobilis] Gaston says, "As a peanut gallery." Michel shall spend his 1 Realm point on a neverending supply of cigarettes within the chancel GM asks, "so I see Penny with 2, Michel/Alexandra with 1. anyone else with any?" Gaston asks, "So we have... 3 points?" [nobilis] Jearl says, "I JUST bought the book; not ready to jump in, didn't know it was starting today" Alexandra sobs [nobilis] Gaston says, "Aw." Ghogg says, "Well, it can be a NICE cardboard box" Gaston says, "Ah, 4." Penny says, "4 points." [nobilis] Alexandra says, "virtually none of us have read the book :)" GM says, "ok, right" Michel says, "ons faisent le suckage" GM laughs Raul has disconnected. Raul has connected. Raul says, "gah" GM says, "I should point out this 4 points is just for bonuses" Wilfred says, "Oh, well then." Gaston says, "We have several people who can't use technology, and nobody really dependent on it, so we could have the 'rejects technology' limitation on the chancel." Gaston says, "Which is worth an extra 2 points." GM says, "if you want the chancel to be an alternate seattle technoparadise with the streetcars pulled by giant monkeys, you cna get that for free" Penny says (to gaston), "no, thank you." Raul says, "hey, I like a GPS" Alexandra says, "I guess we could stack up some more by choosing some negative stuff" Michel says, "I'd be very happy with that" Penny says, "hmmm" Raul says, "also, talk fast in case my connection flakes out again" Michel says, "(the reject-tech thing)" Penny says, "I want the inhabintants to be robed monks who chant in sumerian, fwiw" GM says, "so, yeah, the first thing to determine is what kind of chancel it is" Gaston says, "The people with the points get the final say, I guess." Wilfred asks (of Gaston), "What am I supposed to use as a palm pilot then? An agenda book printed on paper?" GM says, "and then work out the bonuses" Gaston asks, "What bonuses do people want?" Tyoka says, "I sleep, dreaming of revenge." Tyoka says, "adios" Michel asks (of Penny), "Inhabitants? What, like people? Taking up space?" Penny says (to michel), "YES" Gaston says, "Oh, hm." Tyoka has disconnected. Michel asks, "what would we want those for?" Gaston asks, "The lobsters were kind of cool. Can we have lobsters?" Penny says, "I am happy for other suggestions, but this is a vague request as the person with the most realm point." Wilfred says, "They will be conscientious workers, going about their business in a decorous manner. It will look like a cross between the Bank of England and St Paul's." Penny says, "+s" Michel says (to Gaston), "hello Chaz" Gaston says, "Anyone see Moulin Rouge? Like that." GM says, "actually, let's see" Penny says (to gaston), "eeeeagh glitzy" Penny says, "also, hmmmmm" Michel says, "I'm thinking more of a bleak wasteland, populated by the occasional aesthetically pleasing rock or acacia bush" GM says, "just to get this straight, the domains of the saturday people are Paper, Language, Currency, Reflection, Paths, Wednesday, Edges, and Empty Places" GM says, "so possibly that suggests something" GM says, "(har har har)" Wilfred says, "Sounds bureaucratic." Penny says, "I think a library would be good here" Franklin says, "Yes." Alexandra says, "so, it's always Wednesday in our chancel ... :)" Gaston says, "A really crappy library that only opens on Wednesdays." Franklin says, "I'll stay and tend it, so I don't have to walk anywhere." Kori says, "I vote for it to be a library with a sushi restaurant at the street level." Gaston says, "And has no books." Alexandra says, "A library would be fun" Franklin says, "Oh, it'll have books." Raul has disconnected. Michel says, "ooo, books" Gaston says, "Big mirrors would also be fun." Penny says, "a library populated by monks who chant in sumerian. (she adds, again)" (From Kori) Franklin says, "Books... with NOTHING IN THEM." Alexandra says (to Kori), "hee and yay" Franklin says, "And reflecting ponds." Raul has connected. Kori says, "with fishes in the ponds" Kori says, "edible fishes" Michel says, "A big library would suit me down to the ground" Franklin says, "yeah, I should have picked Paper AND Ink" Raul says very fast "I like gardens and many paths" [nobilis] Raquel asks, "okay, Jearl morphing here. there are Saturday people and Sunday people?" Wilfred says, "It'll be raining outside." [nobilis] Franklin says, "yes" Penny says (to Raul), "paths through the shelves of books" [nobilis] Franklin says, "and one Wednesday guy" [nobilis] Gaston says, "More saturday than sunday right now." Alexandra says, "very cool" Kori says, "ok, so a big library perhaps designed around a courtyard with reflecting pools and possibly one of those complicated gardens with paths" Alexandra says, "like the Borges library" [nobilis] Raquel says, "cool, time to think. I want to be about Highways" Raul exclaims, "yes!" Penny says (to Kori), "yes. with monks." Franklin says, "with nice low shelves" Kori says (to Penny), "Monks carrying trays of sushi." Raul says (to Penny), "as long as they get to hit little gongs every once in a while" Gaston asks (of Penny), "What is it with the monks?" Michel says, "aaagh, people" Penny says (to Kori), "as long as they chant in sumerian, sure" Raul says (to Michel), "we'll give you an empty corner" Franklin says, "although, if I were librarian, I could make papers fly down to meet people" Kori says (to Michel), "I'm sure there's an upstairs part of the library where no one goes" Michel asks, "if we have monks, can't they be invisible or perpetually silent or both?" Gaston asks, "How about a library on an island in the middle of a huge lake?" Penny says (to Gaston), "I WANT MONKS" Wilfred says, "I actually like the monks. But that's the player speaking, not the character." Ghogg says (to Franklin), "including late notices" Gaston says, "Kind of like the big thing-in-the-lake thing in Riven." Franklin says, "and of course, a paper card catalog, not one of those damnable computer databases" Lo says (to Penny), "well, I can visit" Alexandra says, "monks chanting are cool" Kori says (to Franklin), "good, goo" Penny says (to alexandra), "thank you" Kori says, "d" Gaston asks, "Can we have nuns too, then?" Alexandra asks, "are we serious about the technology restriction?" Penny says (to gaston), "no" Gaston says, "Aw." Michel says (to Alexandra), "I like it" Penny exclaims, "nuns will tempt the nuns!" Raul says (to Gaston), "You could do a half-lake that emptied into a waterfall into nothingness" Raul says, "which will make Michel somewhat happier" Wilfred says, "Oh oh oh ... not just a library ... a monastic scriptorium." Penny says, "er, and the monks." Gaston says (to Raul), "Oooh, I like it." Franklin says (to Alexandra), "I like it too." Alexandra grumbles about the difficulty of crashing Earthly economies without some good Pentiums around GM says, "size-wise we are shooting for a city/small state, I think, but there's no reason it can't be a big library/garden/monastic scriptorium" Franklin says (to Wilfred), "mmmmm" Penny says (to alexandra), "I'd like a computer in the chancel, but enh" Penny says (to GM), "woo woo" Franklin says, "I have a set of illuminated manuscripts that could use a very secure home" Alexandra says (to Penny), "well, we can be the characters who always bitch about the lack :)" Michel says, "yeah, if this library is immense I won't have to be forever bumping into these people" Penny says (to alexandra), "that works too" Lo says (to Alexandra), "The wise deity / knows the many methods / of the abacus" Gaston asks (of GM), "Are we supposed to have inhabitants who were originally people living in Seattle?" Michel says, "I like a very big library, with the garden as a focal point at the centre" Kori says (to Michel), "you can go, uh, wander the Frenchy section" Kori says, "I'm sure no one will be there" Gaston asks, "A garden at the centre?" Penny says (to kori), "excpet Gaston" Alexandra says, "And sushi." Gaston says (to Kori), "I'm planning on installing some nuns there." GM says (to Gaston), "the imperator can create additional citizens as part of the chancel creation if necessary" Raul has disconnected. Raul has connected. Gaston says (to GM), "Aha." Wilfred asks, "Well, who says it has to make sense in the real world?" Franklin says, "the library can have a big empty mezzanine level" GM says, "(and they will, because (generally) they want servants to guard the chancel and scrub the floors and stuff)" Gaston says, "I would like inhabitants and some kind of local economy and stuff." Raul says, "and paths" Michel says, "so all the exits of the chancel are in little doors tucked away in distant corners of the library, whereas when we all want to meet up we head to the garden" Lo says, "You could have a monastic library on the outside and a secret high tech center under the chapel" Gaston says, "Just so I can find a decent cafe." Penny says, "okay, so. very big library with gardens and lots of big empty spaces. inhabited by monks." Alexandra perks up at the mention of an economy Franklin says, "I'm sure it'll have strange secret passages and hidden rooms" Alexandra says, "and reflecting pools :)" Gaston says, "This library could be a big echoey mansion or castle or something, in the middle of a bustling little town." Wilfred says, "It could be a magic library ... you walk along between the narrow, dusty stacks, turn a corner and suddenly there's an Italian fountain in a grove of cypresses, with more bookshelves beyond the trees." Gaston says, "With little secret alleys and stuff." Alexandra says, "I like the island idea, actually" Michel says, "eeeagh bustling" Penny says (to gaston), "stop shrinking the library, man" Gaston exclaims (at Penny), "Stop filling it with monks!" Alexandra says (to Wil), "neat" Michel says, "I agree with both Penny and Gaston here" Franklin laughs. Lo says, "hee hee" Penny says (to gaston), "you have no realm points, man" Alexandra says, "and a little room where Penny and Gaston can go for their special moments" Franklin snrk Gaston exclaims, "With monks! Interrupting! All the time!" Raul has disconnected. Franklin says, "oops, there goes Raul" Lo says (to Gaston), "No, just making snarky comments" Wilfred says, "And the sizes don't have to make sense either ... the football field sized ballroom is located in the 3-foot-wide space between the periodical section and the illuminated manuscripts." Raul has connected. Franklin says, "well, I'm getting kind of a sense of the place" Gaston says, "Ringing their gongs when jokes fall flat." Raul says, "I will try this one more time, then give up." Gaston asks (of Franklin), "Yeah?" Penny says (to franklin), "I'm glad someone is" Raul says, "if I disconnect, assume realm 0 me will take what I can get" Raul says, "but will be more pleased with paths" Gaston asks, "Can we have animals as monks?" GM says, "uh, I guess" Penny says (to gaston), "I would prefer humans who TALK" Gaston says, "Kind of human-form animals walking on their hind legs." GM says, "I don't see how they'd -- ah, ok" Franklin says, "no talking in the library!" Penny says, "I want speech, here" Michel says (to Penny), "I would prefer animals who DON'T" Penny says, "chanting in sumerian. please." GM says, "so clearly there is a library and a garden and some monks" Franklin points to the big sign that says SH! GM asks, "did you want a town? and/or for this to be on an island?" [Crows-Nest] DavidW says, "Someone's chancel should have homes inside giant Spirograph wheels that turn round and round each other, with giant pens doodling designs on the airspace." Penny says (to GM), "so far, um. an island, I think" Wilfred says, "You could have passages that turn in on themselves but somehow don't cross themselves." Michel says, "I still like the idea that it's ALL library" Alexandra says, "An island could be nice from a defensive standpoint" Gaston says, "Mmm." Franklin says, "the library sprawls around and has a wing that extends out into the middle of a lake whose surface is clear like glass" Wilfred says (to GM), "All on immense library." Penny says, "so that it has edges where it meets nothingness" Michel says, "you know, there's nothing beyond the library except doors leading out of the chancel" Gaston says (to Franklin), "Ooooh. Nice." Franklin says, "so yeah, the city IS the library is the city, sort of" Lo asks, "Also, you can have all this for 4 realm points?" GM says, "this is seattle, you recall, so if it's an island chancel you could make the entrances out in the middle of the ocean or via the aquarium or something" Franklin says, "we haven't spent those yet" Alexandra says (to Lo), "sure, cos this is just the design" GM says (to Lo), "well, they're not asking for anything yet" Wilfred says, "Also, the library could be a hundred times bigger inside than outside. I kind of see the outside as being no wider than a regular townhouse." Penny says, "yeah, I'd prefer it all to be this library" Alexandra exclaims, "aquarium!" Gaston says (to Wilfred), "Hmm, I see it as being a bit bigger than that. Not huge, but imposing." Michel says (to Wilfred), "I see it as not having an outside" Alexandra says (to Mic), "well, we have to be able to get in somehow" Wilfred says (to Michel), "That could work too." Penny says, "yeah, I was thinking not visible from the outside" Gaston says (to Alex), "The outside could be the real world." Michel says (to Alexandrea), "yes, but the exits of the library are the exits of the chancel" (From Franklin) Alex says, "Awwk, okay, the outside could be the real world." Wilfred says, "Actually, I prefer the "no outside" idea. Just doors going in." [Crows-Nest] jwalrus says (to davidw), "tyoka might like that" Michel says (to Wilfred), "yes" Gaston asks, "How about the centre of the library is a huge lake, so large that you can hardly see across it?" Gaston says, "But with library all round the sides." Franklin says (to gaston), "mmm" Penny asks (of gaston), "what's with the lake fixation?" Franklin says, "he's Reflection" Gaston says, "And up above, I dunno." Alexandra says, "mm, that could be tricky, and of little practical benefit" Gaston says, "It'd look pretty cool, though." Alexandra says, "I like the garden in the center idea" Franklin says, "it'd be serene" Gaston says, "Hmm, okay, a garden." Penny says, "yeah, so we'll have mirrors. and a garden with a small lake somewhere. but not a huge great lake thing" Gaston asks, "But is it indoors?" Alexandra says, "with ponds and such :)" Gaston says (to Penny), "Feh." Alexandra says, "sure" Wilfred says (to Gaston), "And you could walk around the lake by taking a left turn at the reference section." Franklin says, "aw" Lo imagines the Sunday people will come up with an Insane Asylum Michel says, "if we have a central garden, I like it fairly small, so that we immediately find each other if we go there" Franklin says (to Lo), "heh heh" Penny says (to michel), "right" Alexandra says, "or, we could have a meeting point in the garden" Gaston says, "It should have hide-in-able nooks." Franklin says, "there should be a meeting point, yes" Alexandra says, "a favourite status or pavillion or such" Alexandra says, "staus = statue" Franklin asks, "does it need to be in some way constructed to be defensible?" GM says, "mrm" Gaston asks, "Should there be an entrance in the garden?" Gaston says, "Which leads into the garden, I mean." Wilfred says, "Actually, maybe the actual geography isn't set." Raul asks, "What about the waterfall?" [nobilis] jwalrus asks, "how many nobilis are there in your average chancel? are there likely to be a load other than the PCs?" [nobilis] GM says, "no, it's just you" Raul says, "sigh. That statement went with the conversation two minutes ago." Michel asks (of Gaston), "how about out, but not in?" [nobilis] GM says, "but there are random townsfolk or whatever in the chancel" Franklin says (to Raul), "I'm still picturing it somewhere" GM asks, "so it's a library with a garden in the middle?" Gaston asks (of Raul), "A big big fountain, or just a little water feature?" Franklin says, "if this is as big as a small town, there's room for lots of different places" Penny says (to GM), "yes, I guess" Raul says, "I do like the endless falling water with no bottom in sight" Gaston says, "So do I." Penny says, "but with various rooms and stairways and such," Raul says (to Gaston), "a part of the lake running off endlessly" GM asks, "assuming there's other people, where do they live? in the library? or outside it?" [nobilis] jwalrus says, "oh, huh. time to readjust my mental image" Alexandra says, "and we can toss minions who piss us off into the endless water" Wilfred says (to GM), "They disappear when not in our presence." Alexandra says, "in the library" Penny says (to GM), "in the library, in the vaults underneath it" Franklin says, "outside it, in the shantytown" [nobilis] GM says, "it's a pocket dimension, basically, the size of a city or something" [nobilis] jwalrus says, "right, but I saw it as having a few dozen Nobilis living there" GM says, "like I said, your imperator probably wants the people around to be able to defend the chancel if necessary" Michel says, "in the library, scuttling around in solitude" GM says, "and keep it up when you're not around" Franklin asks, "are we going to shell out for a borderguard?" GM says, "but it's fine if they live in the vaults" [nobilis] jwalrus asks, "so if all the pcs have Realm 0, does that means there's no-one respectable in the chancel?" Alexandra says, "vaults is cool" Gaston says, "If we have some kind of a lake or waterfall or something, that can be an exit into the mythic world." Penny says (to GM), "okay." Franklin says, "I'm picturing a really really strict librarian lady with a rule" Franklin says, "ruler" Gaston says, "With the exit into the prosaic world somewhere in the library proper." Kori says, "I think they live under the sign that says "Reference"" Michel says, "wait, we haven't worked out whether there's an outside to the library or not" [nobilis] Penny says, "it would, yes" Alexandra says (to Frank), "that would be Ms Realm 2 over there ..." Gaston says (to Michel), "Yeah." Wilfred asks, "How about ... we don't know? Nobody except maybe Raul knows where all the twisty paths lead and which combination of turns to take to get where?" Alexandra says, "that'd be neat" [nobilis] GM says, "well, even with Realm 0, you're still mildly better off than the average citizen in the chancel" Gaston says (to Wilfred), "Ooh." Raul says (to GM), "they commute from Seattle" Michel says, "I'm looking for No Outside, personally" Penny says (to wilf), "that'd be difficult for the inhabitants, when they are trying to defend it" Michel says (to Wilfred), "ooo, yes" [nobilis] jwalrus asks, "oh, really?" Franklin says, "somehow this library is going to have a much bigger romance novel section than my character would prefer" Wilfred says (to Penny), "They just know the parts they're responsible for." Penny says (to franklin), "oh but yes" [nobilis] GM says, "when the imperator sets it up, he/she says "hey, I'm the guy in charge, and these are my delegates, by"" Raul says, "we'd need at least one path that everyone knows, I'd think" Michel says, "that way I can disappear into the library and get lost for days" [nobilis] GM says, "plus, obviously, you can do miracles and they can't" Penny says, "yeah, it'd be nice if we could all find our ways around." Lo says, "It'll be called the 'husky reference section'" Gaston says (to Penny), "Signs." [nobilis] jwalrus says, "I think my vision was that the inhabitants were all nobles" Franklin says, "there are plenty of maps" Raul says, "THIS WAY TO THE EGRESS" Penny asks (of gaston), "nice. if we get attacks, follow the signs that say 'this way to the imperator'?" [nobilis] GM says, "it's really more like a city, and you're the city council" [nobilis] jwalrus says, "ah" Franklin says, "in fact, we have the largest map collection in the world" Franklin says, "although not all of them are, ah, helpful in this day and age" Gaston says, "At this point I'm imagining an apparently endless library, with weird little paths among the stacks leading to unexpected places. It has little gardens and things, but there are always books and papers and maps and stuff everywhere." Penny asks (of franklin), "but you lost it?" GM asks, "taped to the walls, floor, and nearly every surface?" Alexandra says, "sure" Raul says (to GM), "yay" Franklin says, "I am no longer able to lose paper even if I wished to" Wilfred says, "Well, I know what my section of the library is going to be...." GM asks, "ok, so how about the stuff you buy with points?" Lo says, "Also, a fine rare currency and stamp collection" Raul sits back and lets Penny go shopping. GM asks, "the first question is accessibility -- do you want more than the standard few entrances?" Alexandra says, "I like the convenient access idea" Penny says, "hmm, 4 points." Franklin asks, "do we need them?" Gaston says, "Convenient Accessibility sounds useful, to stop us yomping around the real world all the time." Penny says, "yeah, I like convenient access." Penny asks, "shall we take that, then?" GM asks, "so, I dunno, it'd be connected to every library, perhaps?" Michel says, "seems to fit" Raul says, "ooh, there's an interesting idea" Alexandra says, "I think it's a good use of points. Ooo, that would rock" Michel says, "yeah yeah" Penny says (to GM), "yup, that'll do" Franklin says, "I'm kind of hoping my character doesn't have to leave the chancel so much, so in that sense it wouldn't matter to him" Gaston asks, "Can we spend points to have a useful reference section in the library?" Raul says, "Franklin is the doctor from the old Thunderbirds show" Michel says, "terry pratchett is going to sue our asses SO hard" Franklin says (to GM), "neat" Penny says (to gaston), "I suspect that it'll come with" [Crows-Nest] DavidW says, "I haven't heard that particular buzzword phrase, "content mgmt", and it sounds like the magic phrase I've needed to hear. Hard to look for something if you don't even know what it's called." Wilfred says (to GM), "Yeah. That back door in the hallway that you never noticed before." Penny says (to michel), "hush" Gaston says, "It'd be nifty if we had copies of, say, every book ever written." Alexandra asks (of GM), "that'll cost us two?" Franklin says, "I'm not familiar with thunderbirds" GM says (to Gaston), "you could tell the inhabitants to start gathering information for the reference section" GM says (to Alexandra), "right" Gaston says (to GM), "Okay." Michel says (to Gaston), "we could just pop out into the Bodleian when we needed to" Alexandra says, "do we want the tech restriction? that will gain us 2 more, but could be annoying. For some of us. I'm willing to live with it if others are" Penny says, "yes, let's take it." Gaston says, "We could give the chancel a Spirit Gateway to Limbo." Alexandra says, "tho it could limit our defenses severly" Gaston says, "Which would keep Michel happy, and might come in handy." Michel says, "I want tech restriction, yeah" Penny says, "we could probably need the points" Gaston says, "And/or dangerous." Michel says, "whoop whoop" Penny says, "a borderguard would be useful" Alexandra says, "so, if we do that, we're back to having four points to spend" Franklin says, "me too, because I have the technology restriction and I'm a cranky old man about it, too" Penny says, "as we all have sucky realm scores" Raul asks, "What kinds of things are available to be bought?" Gaston asks, "What other bonuses do people want?" Penny says (to raul), "http://www.drizzle.com/~dans/nobilis/chancel.html" Wilfred asks (of Penny), "border guard? But we have no borders to guard?" GM says, "ah, wait, hrm, my apologies" GM says, "it appears the one you get a negative score for on resources is if normal technology (ie, cars) from inside the chancel doesn't work outside" GM says, "and you have to *pay* a point for technology from outside not working inside" Penny says (to wilf), "well, it means guards." Franklin says, "foh" Penny says (to GM), "yow, take it back" Wilfred says, "Oooh ... 'Open'." Alexandra says, "screw that" Penny asks (of wilf), "where to, though? the library of congress?" GM says, "you could get some points back from, hrm" Gaston says (to Penny), "Hey, that'd be cool." Michel says, "I like the idea of a bane avara or two. Little bastards going around warping the shape of the coridoors, turning the library into a maze and pissing everybody off" Wilfred sees that as a mile-long system of twists and turns through stacks and shelves, before actually reaching anywhere important. jwalrus says, "your evil librarian lady could be an Extra Landlord" Penny says, "c'mon, a mile long border into a library would be hard to find" Franklin says, "none of these things to spend points on seem particularly exciting" Alexandra agrees with Frank Penny says, "okay, we have convenient access" Gaston says, "The Resources thing sounds worth playing with, one way or the other." Gaston asks, "If we don't spend points on that, what's the situation?" GM says, "if you don't spend points, it has normal levels of technology and magic" Penny says, "so, 2 points left" Raul says, "Hm. mana mine" GM says, "so if someone makes a car in the chancel, you can take it outside and it'll work fine" Alexandra says, "hey, we could have the chancel create miracle points" Gaston says (to Raul), "I was thinking that." Franklin says, "it costs you 2 points for every overdue book you check out of the library" GM says, "mana mine costs 1 point per miracle point per session it generates" Michel asks, "if it creates miracle points, does it just do it for us, or for every Power in there?" Alexandra asks, "which catgory do the points go in? whever you want?" Gaston asks (of GM), "Each, or among us all?" GM says, "you guys are the only power in there" GM says, "and that's 1 point total, which any of you can take for any trait" Gaston says, "Hrm." Alexandra says, "well, that could be a good use of our remaining two points" Franklin says, "someone at some point might need it" Gaston says, "True." GM says, "hmm, what else" Michel asks (of GM), "Usable only in the chancel, or anywhere?" Gaston says, "We could spend 1 on that, and 1 on something else." Raul says, "otherwise, Defender's Blessing might be useful" Penny says, "hmm. I would prefer a couple of bana avara and a borderguard, really" Gaston asks, "...Magical Inhabitants?" Gaston says, "This could be penny's monks." GM says, "for 2 points, you could get that many of the residents can do minor (ie, human) magics" Raul asks, "bane avara hurts us, no?" Penny says (to raul), "yes, but gives points" Raul says, "oh ah. That's how you're paying for guards" Gaston says, "We could have the books themselves being the Bane Avara." Gaston says, "They like to hide, and eat small animals and stuff." Raul says, "a spirit who goes around and disorders the shelves" Gaston says, "Unless carefully tended." Penny says (to gaston), "I'd prefer it if they were useful, but it's not a bad idea" Michel says (to Gaston), "I like it" Alexandra says, "borderguards would be good" Michel says, "it avoids there being any humans involved" Gaston says, "Not ripping off Pratchett at all, of course." Michel asks, "could the books be both the borderguards and the bane avara?" Penny says, "the thing is, our realm points suck. so we need some kind of defence system" Gaston says (to Michel), "Oooh." Gaston says, "Either that, or make the monks the borderguards." Raul says, "with Fists of Power" Alexandra says (to Penny), "good point" Gaston says, "One of them is always ready to ring the gong if he sees intruders." GM says, "well, that you can get for free" Alexandra asks, "so, buy a pair of banes and have 3 points of borderguard?" GM says, "if you pay for a borderguard, at the minimum level it'll tell you as soon as any invader enters at all" Michel says, "yeah, why not" Alexandra says, "that would be a *very* good thing" Raul says, "i'm for that" Franklin asks, "wait, so we're also doing mana mine for 1?" Penny says (to alexandra), "I think so. or maybe 4 banes, and a slightly higher borderguard." Gaston says, "Oh, you need two banes. Hm." GM says, "but the inhabitants are (presumably) sensible and will say "hey, intruders!" if they see an intruder" Gaston says (to Franklin), "I think not, since guards are at least 3 points." Penny says (to GM), "hmmmmmmm" Gaston says, "The guards should also attack the intruders with vicious little letter openers." Franklin says, "oh, pair of banes is 1" Raul asks (of GM), "if we later up Realm, can we spend those extra points after the fact?" Wilfred says, "One bane to change the pathways around...." Alexandra asks, "although .. even with realm 0 can't we tell when the chancel is in danger?" Gaston exclaims (at Wilfred), "Yes!" GM says (to Raul), "yeah, I think so" Raul says (to Wilfred), "heh, yes" Penny says (to alexandra), "well, danger might let snoopers in." GM says (to Raul), "also, you get either a character point for everyone or one chancel point every adventure" Wilfred says (to Raul), "Your pets, no doubt." Raul says, "and hiding books Franklin wants" Gaston asks, "And living mischievious books as another bane?" Gaston asks, "Or just a book-hiding spirit?" Franklin says, "I'm the duke of paper. I can zing books back into my hands" Wilfred says, "...tearing pages off my calendar...." Franklin says, "well, maybe I can" Michel asks, "So. 2 for Easily Accessible, get two banes for 1, 1 point of Mana Mine and 2 points of guards?" Franklin says, "I do have domain 4" Penny says, "yeah, a path-changing bane and living mischeivous books." Penny says (to michel), "guards costs 3" Gaston says, "I think we can live without the Mana Mine." Michel asks, "If we get Popularity... does only one of us get it, or all of us?" Penny says, "what gaston said" Penny says (to michel), "all of us, I think" Raul says, "I expect guards to be more useful than a mine" Michel says, "because I'm quite happy to piss off the monks, personally" Franklin says, "I'm not hot on the mischievous books idea, but I'm not going to fight a majority on it" GM says (to Michel), "all of you, yeah" Gaston says (to Franklin), "You can whip them into shape." Lo says, "Mana Mine sounds like something out of Magic: The Gathering" GM says, "hrm" Michel says, "dammit" Franklin asks, "what harm does saying 'this place has monks' do?" Alexandra asks, "wait, tho -- what does 3 points of guard get us we don't already have, since realm 0 still lets us know when it's in danger?" Franklin asks (of Lo), "what else?" GM says, "reading over the borderguard thing, I'm not sure it's that great unless you can spend a bunch of points on it" Alexandra asks, "does guard give us more specific info?" Wilfred thinks one of the guards should be this spinster-librarian type ... like Miss Voss, only without the obsession with the colour violet. Raul says, "Really? Bleah." Michel says, "though it'd make sense if the monks were forever irritated by our interfering presence" Penny says (to GM), "ah ok" GM says, "it appears that if you get one level (for 3 points) that means it uses ghost miracles against anyone with auctoritas 0 or below" GM says, "if you get two levels (6 points), it uses divinations, and so on" Raul says, "That's not so good." Penny says, "how about we spend those 3 points on defenders blessing, then" GM says, "but ghost miracles are -- right" Gaston asks (of GM), "Do Anchors have auctoritas?" GM says (to Gaston), "they have spirit 0, effectively" Gaston asks, "And how about 4 points of defenders?" Michel says, "also, no bastard with auctoritas 0's going to attack a chancel" Penny says, "so that our inhabitants are more resistant to stuff" Gaston says (to Michel), "Someone might try to slip in an Anchor." GM says, "if you spend 2 points on defender's blessing, everyone in the chancel has a minimum auctoritas of 1" GM says, "(except bad guys, of course)" Gaston asks (of GM), "Including monks?" Michel says (to Michel), "but we'd know immediately and kick their asses utterly" GM says, "yes, including the natives" Michel says, "also, ..Gaston" Gaston says, "That sounds more like it, then." Alexandra says, "Hmm. that might not suck, considering all our 0 realm people" Raul asks (of GM), "but that auctoritas isn't added to our spirit one, right?" GM says, "right" Penny says, "I think we should spend 3 on defenders blessing, then" Michel says, "fah" GM says, "but if you have spirit 0, you still get auctoritas 1" Franklin says, "if we had a tiny chancel, and everyone was crowded so that our auctoritas auras overlapped..." GM says, "(but I don't know if anyone has spirit 0)" GM says (to Franklin), "hee hee" Gaston says (to Franklin), "Heh." GM says (to Penny), "it costs 2, so you can spend the other on mana mine, or get 2 banes and spend 4 on defender's blessing" Gaston says, "Sounds like the Defender's Blessing helps the monks more than us." Michel says, "yeah, it seems a bit pointless just to protect the goddamn monks" Alexandra says, "maybe we should just blow it on popularity, and have natives willing to defend us to the death" Wilfred says, "Unless the monks could, you know, help defend." Michel says, "fah" GM says, "well, they'll help defend if someone marches an army in" Penny says (to wilf), "I think that's the point" Gaston asks, "What about Magical Inhabitants?" GM says, "or if they find a spy or something" Wilfred says, "So if the monks are protected, the defence is stronger." Alexandra asks (of GM), "does popularity get us any practical benefit?" GM says (to Alexandra), "well, they can't be turned against you as easily" Penny asks, "okay, how about 2 on defenders blessing, and 2 on resources, so we have toys to pull out of the chancel to play with?" GM says (to Alexandra), "and they throw parades and stuff" Gaston says (to Alexandra), "Snappy book-lending." Michel says (to Penny), "it's like a library... of GUNS" Raul says, "'I fight you with our enchanted date-due slips'" Wilfred exclaims (at Raul), "Ooo, paper cuts!" Alexandra asks, "what can we take out with resources 2?" Gaston asks (of Penny), "And 2 on handy access?" Penny exclaims (at raul), "I defend against you with this paper spike!" GM says, "for two points on resources, you could get tech equal to, I dunno, the year 2300, say" Ghogg says (to Alexandra), "Well, that depends on your overdue fines" Penny says (to gaston), "mmhmm, and two banes" Gaston asks (of Penny), "Where do we get a -2?" Alexandra says, "that ain't bad" Gaston asks (of Penny), "Two banes is -1, isn't it?" GM says, "so smaller microchips, guns are better, organs can be grown for transplants" Raul says, "and pocket ponies" Penny asks, "er, hmm. 4 banes? or just spend one on resources?" Gaston exclaims (at Raul), "Yay!" Alexandra says, "sounds usefull to me" Gaston asks (of GM), "How about 1 on resources?" Alexandra says, "resources costs minimum 2" Michel says, "for resources, how about taking objects from the books? So you can grab a book about firearms, whip a Heckler and Koch out of it, and kick enemy ass" Gaston says, "Minimum -2, it says" Alexandra says, "oh, I lie" Penny says (to alexandra), "I thought that was.. right" Alexandra says, "yes. I cannot read" Raul says (to Alexandra), "That'll give you trouble in the library" GM says, "for 1 on resources, all you can get is the outside-technology restriction" Ghogg says (to Raul), "they'll have silencers" Alexandra says, "I like a resources 2" Penny says, "well, we kind of lack points." Gaston says (to GM), "Huh? I thought that was a penalty." GM says (to Gaston), "yeah, I thought so, but I was wrong" Gaston says, "We could be Unpopular." Alexandra says, "well, four banes would get us enough for resoures 2, defenders gift 2" Ghogg says, "The monks get annoyed at all those flying books" Penny says, "convenient access. banes. defenders blessing. leaves us 1 point." GM says, "for -1 point, you get "technology from inside doesn't work outside" for 1 point, you get "technology from outside doesn't work inside"" Gaston says, "Do we want all these bloody banes? 2 seems a good number." Gaston says (to GM), "I guess it could discomfit attackers." Penny asks, "if we take, say, a -1 unpopularity, what effect would that have?" GM asks (of Penny), "1-point mana mine? some residents (but not most) have magic?" Alexandra says, "I think unpopularity is a bad move, with our already weak defenses" Penny says (to GM), "I'd rather resouces, if we can scrounge an extra point" Raul says, "Let's not have the monks mad at us as well" GM says, "unpopular is apparently either 6 or -3, but not in between" Penny says, "yeep" Gaston says, "Yow." Michel asks, "Does that mean the monks try to kill us, or the monks shoo us away when we interfere with their cataloguing?" Penny asks, "hmm. okay, how about a landlord?" GM says, "you can get -1 point for having a relatively weak landlord" jwalrus says, "librarian!" Penny says, "that'll do, then" Michel says, "yeah, that works" Penny says, "so, then we can get resources." Alexandra asks, "what does weak landlord mean, in practical terms?" Gaston asks, "The landlord is different from the Imperator, presumably?" Gaston asks, "Who *is* the landlord?" Michel says, "but I don't want a stereotyped librarian here" GM says, "the landlord is an ordinary resident empowered by the imperator to help run things" Michel says, "it doesn't fit" Alexandra says, "oh, that would likely be OK" Michel says, "so, the abbot" Gaston says, "I kind of like the idea of a librarian." Raul says, "well, the orangutang librarian has already been done" [Crows-Nest] DavidW asks, "This'll be summed up somewhere, yes?" Wilfred says (to Michel), "Fits depended on which section of the library you're in." [Crows-Nest] DavidW says, "I'm not really following the chat anymore." GM says, "for -1, they have realm 1 and 5 RMPs" Penny says, "so, defenders blessing(2), 2 banes(-1), landlord(-1), convenient access(2), resources(2)." [Crows-Nest] GM says, "it's being logged" Penny asks, "does that work?" Alexandra asks, "q: is blessing worth the negatives of the banes and the landlord?" Gaston says, "So Penny and Jota would still outrank the landlord. Sounds okay to me." GM says, "(and will generally listen to you guys when you're being reasonable)" Penny says (to alexandra), "I think so." Michel asks, "How exactly would our resources work?" Gaston says (to Penny), "That works for me." [Crows-Nest] DavidW says, "Great. Then I'll toddle off. Thanks for letting me observe." Alexandra says (to Mic), "we can haul cool stuff out and use it elsewhere" DavidW focuses on his crystal and fades away into a clear haze in the light. Penny says (to michel), "for one RMP per session you can bring something out of the chancel to use" GM says (to Michel), "if the inhabitants have factories and stuff, they can make semi-high-tech stuff" Michel says, "okay, cool guns, I'm happy" Penny says (to GM), "I add that the vaults have, like, manufacturing equipment and so on" Franklin asks, "is this game really about shooting guns?" Michel says, "but we, er, don't have factories and stuff, do we- oh, now we do." Raul says, "Don't worry. Michel's guns will fire blanks" Gaston says, "Factories? Yeesh." Ghogg says, "Well, they're mini-factories from 2300" Gaston asks, "Can't we have artisans?" Michel says (to Raul), "fnar" Raul says, "Hand-crafted artisan technology from 2300" Penny says, "they're all tucked out of sight in the vaults where we don't have to see them" Franklin says, "this is sounding less and less like a library with garden paths" Michel says, "I don't want anything loud or big and mechanical." Gaston says, "Also, if the monks could make a nice wine, that'd be good." Penny says, "the library ispeaceful and serene and so on" Michel says, "I still like my from-the-books idea" Ghogg says, "The books could be the factories" Gaston says, "We can have magic rather than technology." Gaston exclaims, "It's Sargent's Dilemma all over again!" Penny says, "well" GM laughs Alexandra has connected. Penny asks (of GM), "is a 2 resource enough to pull stuff out of books? or to get artisans to create really cool stuff?" Franklin says, "still, this is closer to a consensus than one might reasonably expect eight people to come to in a short amount of time" GM says, "with 2 resources, you can have high tech available, not on demand, but if you tell the inhabitants to come up stuff they generally can" Wilfred says, "I prefer pulling stuff out of books. Or, at least, from behind shelves." Gaston says, "Rather than noisy factories, I'd rather have skilled craftspeople who can build by hand anything described in any of the books." Penny says (to GM), "okay. that works." Franklin says, "I wish I had a better idea of what to expect game-play and story-wise, because it seems like that would best dictate our choices" Gaston says, "Yeah." GM says, "if you want the books can produce the stuff, but (again) that'll take some time" Gaston says (to Franklin), "Did you read the sample transcripts from the manual? They're on the web." Penny says, "well, as long as we have some way of getting stuff, i don't mind." GM says, "but, anyway, it seems like this is reasonably close to a consensus, yeah" Ghogg says, "I'm still a little unclear on how the story flow works in the first place, the sample transcript from the website seemed a little random" Gaston says, "The books producing stuff seems in line with the books being naughty spirits." Penny says, "anyway, so, we have the stats sorted, then." GM says, "so let's table this for the moment, and take a look at the imperator" Michel asks, "how about the books produce stuff on demand, but you have to get the monks to look up the book and it takes time?" Gaston says, "We can get them to make stuff for us, but they also have a weird little society of their own." Franklin says (to GM), "ok" GM asks, "since you guys are the first group, you get to pick -- do you want Shapagir or Vona for your imperator?" Penny says, "lets move on, then" Penny says, "Vona" Franklin says, "vona" Wilfred says (to Michel), "Yay" Gaston exclaims, "Vona!" GM says, "(at this point there is no difference except the name)" GM says, "alrighty" Alexandra says, "vona" Michel says, "so you could grab an item from a book at random if you were desperate, but you'd probably get a chicken or the Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra or something" Franklin says, "let them take the hard-to-spell one" Gaston says (to GM), "And the gender." Franklin says, "HA ha" Ghogg says, "They go with the shorter and easier to spell name, of course" Penny says (to GM), "you described her as female. big mistake" Gaston says, "Muahaha." Wilfred says, "Miss Violet Vona Voss...." GM says, "and if you look at http://www.drizzle.com/~dans/nobilis/imperator.html, you can see stuff you might want" GM says, "but note that you have 0 points as a base, so, eg, if you want Vona to be sympathetic, you'd have to balance it out with a penalty" Penny says, "hmm, this is direct one-penalty-for-each-plus" Wilfred says, "Mm. Incomprehensible." Ghogg says, "Vona seemed pretty inscrutable to me" Gaston says, "I don't see anything I especially want here." Franklin asks, "what pool of points are we spending? oh, we're just toggling switches on her until they balance out again?" Wilfred says (to Gaston), "Neither can I, really." Penny asks, "okay, incomprehensible, advising?" Raul says, "Demanding and sympathetic" Raul asks, "now, incomprehensible *costs* one, right?" Gaston asks, "Incomprehensible costs points, doesn't it?" GM says, "yes" Ghogg says, "You could also pick a Gift that boosted your Realm scores for certain things since all of yours are pretty low" Raul says, "and straight-forward is the -1 version" GM says, "because it shields you from your lies being detected and makes you invisible to the Sight" Penny asks, "straight-forward and advising, then?" Alexandra says, "most of us have take handicaps, so we could easily pick up -1 points on that, it looks like" Michel says, "I like Disrespectful" Franklin asks, "surely incomprehensible is the -1, despite how it's written?" GM says (to Franklin), "no, because of what I said" Franklin says, "oh. hm." Franklin says, "oh I see" GM says, "straightforward, on the other hand, makes your actions easier to predict" Franklin says, "sorry, I was reading while you were talking" Ghogg says, "Curious" Gaston asks, "Any particular skill come to mind for Mastery?" Wilfred asks, "Research?" Gaston says, "Ooh, hm." Alexandra asks, "foresight?" Penny says, "okay, having gotten my way with the chancel, pretty much, i shall let you guys sort this out while I go refresh my nicotine points" Alexandra asks, "so we could pick on on nefarious plans?" Franklin says, "and on and on and on" Gaston says, "I would be happy with no bonuses and no penalties, dull as it may be." Gaston says, "But research would also be a good skill." Penny says, "research would fit in nicely with our chancel, fwiw" Gaston says, "Fits my Domain, too." Gaston says, "Sort of." Alexandra says, "well, if I read this right, giving everyone in the group a handicap gains us -1" Gaston asks, "What kind of handicap?" Gaston says, "I have lots of flaws already." Raul says, "we all get really bad golf games" GM laughs Gaston says, "Heh." Michel says, "I don't like handicap." Alexandra says, "ok" Gaston asks, "We can't break the rules of mortal libraries?" Gaston says, "So we can't shout, steal books, etc." Franklin says, "I've been kind of silently agreeing with everything gaston has said for the past half hour, so I'll just let him keep saying it" Alexandra says, "hey, that'd be cute" Gaston says (to Franklin), "Yow." [Crows-Nest] buzzard has joined the channel. Alexandra says, "we could do that, pick up mastry of research or some such, and call it a day. or a god. whatever" GM asks, "do you guys want that?" Franklin asks, "well, what is it going to get us?" Michel says, "yeah, but there are all sorts of things you're not allowed to do in libraries. like eat" Penny says, "hmm. I don't like that handicap" Penny says, "as I'd like to be able to talk to people in the chancel" Michel asks, "see, I think we've got some academics in the group, plus the research-monks... how badly do we need research mastery?" Penny says, "and y'know, ask them stuff" Alexandra says (to Penny), "I don't think this applies in the chancel" Franklin says, "well, godlike research mastery is something else" Alexandra asks (of GM), "could we limit the handicap to 'earthly libraries'?" Penny says (to alexandra), "well, it'd be nice to yeah, eat and talk and stuff in the real worls" GM says (to Alexandra), "sure" Franklin says, "I'm not understanding this handicap we're agreeing to" Alexandra says (to Frank), "it could be useful for very very quickly getting up to speed on stuff surrouding any plans we need to foil" GM says, "I believe it is that in earthly libraries, you have to follow the rules" Gaston asks, "Are we going to be hanging around libraries much, is the thing?" Penny says, "so if we restrict the rules to not breaking any rules while we're in real world libraries, fine" Franklin says, "that doesn't sound like much of a handicap" Penny says (to gaston), "we are now, I suspect" Gaston says, "Seems like we might pop in to do some godly Research, but inside them we're constricted." Gaston says (to Penny), "Heh." Michel says, "so we exit our chancel via one of our many exits, and get ambushed by Execrucians! however, we walk quietly to the exit as the bullets ricochet around us" Franklin says, "unless a fight with a bad guy starts to happen in a library or something" GM says, "well, your chancel's exits/entrances are all inside libraries, as you recall" Michel says, "because all our exits are in libraries" Penny says (to GM), "indeed. but happy lively loud libraries" Penny says, "with NO RULES" Gaston says, "Maybe this isn't such a good handicap, then." Franklin says, "that's why they call it a handicap" Gaston says, "Heh." Alexandra says, "and research mastry would be great" Michel says (to Penny), "like there are so many of those about" Penny says (to michel), "start funding hippy libraries, dude" GM says, "another idea is a demanding imperator" Alexandra says, "like, with the Exxon Valdex example in the book, we could very quickly learn all about the boat's specs and such" Penny says (to GM), "yeah" GM says, "ie, who asks you for extra stuff and changes what she wants at a moment's notice" Michel says, "yeah, I like Demanding or Disrespectful or both" Franklin says, "establishing new earthy libraries is an interesting idea" Gaston says, "Vona seemed pretty demanding." Penny says, "I think that's probably easiest." Alexandra says, "The library handicap seems to go with our chancel and characters and such, tho" Ghogg says, "Considering she was dragging people into the subway." Penny asks, "demanding imperator, research mastery?" Franklin says, "I could go with demanding" Gaston says, "Imperator who demands that we go off and hunt down obscure references, sure." Franklin says, "since inky will make it entertaining" Michel says, "that works" Franklin says, "also, it keeps him on his toes" Raul says, "i would prefer demanding rather than restricted to no talking/eating &c." Gaston says, "Yeah." Alexandra says, "It would fit with what we've seen of Vona" Ghogg says, "Visit the fifth circle of Hell to collect dust samples or something" Franklin says, "yeah" Penny asks, "okay, so, shall we leave it at that?" Franklin says, "find a herring, etc" Franklin says, "er, shrubbery. blast" Gaston says (to Penny), "I think so." GM says, "ok, great, so I believe this is a wrap" Wilfred wonders now how Wednesday fits into all this. Franklin says, "wooh" Penny exclaims, "yay!" Franklin asks, "so, next saturday at 6EST?" GM says, "right" Alexandra says, "yay" Michel says, "righty then" GM says, "and in the meantime, I'll write up a bit more intro stuff" GM says, "thanks, guys" Penny asks (of GM), "are you going to write these decisions up somewhere?" Franklin says, "no thank YOU" Raul says, "yay GM" Alexandra exclaims (at GM), "this seems such an awesome game :) thanks!" Gaston says (to Wilfred), "Go and find out! There's a book about it in the Library of Alexandria! Or rather, there was -- I believe the scraps are sequestered in a little cave by the dead sea." GM says (to Penny), "yeah, I'll summarize, and you can tell me if I'm summarizing the chancel wrong" Michel says, "woo for the GM" Penny says (to GM), "okey-dokey" Raul says, "and then I slip inky $20 to make the changes I want" Penny says, "also, yeah, this seems to rock so far" Franklin says, "hm, and I need to find a different 1-point gift for my guy" Raul says (to Franklin), "that's not a bad thing, surely" Franklin says, "together, we fight crime!" Alexandra says, "ok, david is bellowing for me to come watch Trading Spaces with him, so, off I go! Will send final character stats tomorrow" (From Gaston) Raul says (to inky), "No, the handicap should read: 'none of us can walk, unless we have special boots'." Alexandra waves Alexandra has disconnected. Alexandra goes home. Franklin says (to raul), "nah, it's just I need to go and ReThink" Raul says, "This looks like it's going to be all kinds of fun" GM says, "yeah, and if you guys want to reshuffle points or whatever, go for it, but let me know" GM says, "(but if it changes the realm stuff, let me know that too)" Penny says (to GM), "okay" Franklin is called home. [nobilis] PerrySimm says, "log off"
