Gaston says (to Wilfed), "It would look magnificent on that very large empty stretch of wall over there."

GM asks, "and the arm-ripping?"

Wilfred checks to see if the empty stretch of wall is zoned for nudity.

Michel says, "I can just grow new ones"

Alexandra laughs

Raul says (to gm), "metaphorical arm-ripping"

Franklin arrives, looking for booty.

Michel says, "franklin."

Wilfred says, "arr"

Gaston says, "Hmm. Kori as a female Beowulf, with her phallic edged sword. Michel as a masculine Grendel, his many arms in the act of being torn off. It could work."

Gaston looks through his fingers at the wall speculatively.

[nobilis] Franklin says, "wow, everyone's here"

GM says, "right then"

Michel says (to Gaston), "technically speaking, there's no sword in the wrestling bit"

[nobilis] GM says, "no Kori"

[nobilis] Franklin says, "oh, arr"

Penny says (to Gaston), "I am going to steal your paints, you know"

[nobilis] GM says, "but I'm not sure she's coming, so we're going on without her"

[nobilis] Franklin says, "aw"

[Crows-Nest] Wilfred read that as "...going to steal your pants"

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "no, that only happens OOC"

[Crows-Nest] Michel asks, "he's wearing pants?"

[Crows-Nest] Raul says, "well, kilt"

[Crows-Nest] Penny asks (of michel), "what, you want him to wear a kilt?"

[Crows-Nest] Franklin asks, "a frenchman in a kilt?"

GM says, "when we left our heroes last week, some of them were exploring Rafe's deserted residence, and had discovered the remains of a somewhat disturbing ritual, while Franklin and Wilfred had been summoned into Bart's presence, where they were informed of a threat to the chancel"

[Crows-Nest] Wilfred says, "I'm sure it's all a plot to keep him in a kilt, yes."

[Crows-Nest] Franklin says, "quel horreur"

[Crows-Nest] Michel says, "the ancient alliance against the hated english"

Franklin says, "We'll get to the bottom of this, by thunder!"

Gaston asks, "Again?"

Gaston says, "Oh, well, it passes the time."

Michel says, "chancels are always under threat. it's what they're for"

Penny has been frantically writing novels, and vanishing off for research

Alexandra says, "(Alex was in and out on private errands, but is now back and hanging out in the chancel)"

Wilfred wonders if Michel couldn't just tell them where the emptiness was coming from.

Franklin says, "Someone or something is erasing our books."

Gaston says, "Interesting."

Gaston asks, "Another attack on Language?"

Raul looks at the disturbing corner of the room.

Michel says (to Wilfred), "<I'll have a look as soon as I get back to chancel. Blank pages fall squarely within my domain>"

Gaston asks, "Is it still going on?"

Raul says, "<This is all rather worrying.>"

Wilfred has left Darren, enterprising cultist-wannabe, locked in his office.

Gaston says, "We should have some of the monks make random checks."

Raul says, "<Unless what happened to vanish was the Harlequin shelf, in which case I'm not as worried.>"

Franklin holds up the book Bart gave him. "This poor thing didn't just have its pages blanked, but it can't even talk any more. Its spirit has gone mute, or dead."

Penny says (to Raul), "NO NOT THE ROMANCE"

Gaston says, "The spirit is in the words, I suppose."

GM says, "the whole thing is somewhat disturbing, but especially of note is the small corpse in the corner"

Michel says (to Raul), "<I didn't do it. honest>"

Gaston says, "Where is Bart? We need more information on this phenomenon."

Raul bends down to look at the corpse, and switches to mythic.

[nobilis] Wilfred asks, "wait, where is everyone?"

[nobilis] Alex says (to Wilfred), "Awwwk! Word on the street is that everyone is laughing it up on #adam-sux again."

[nobilis] Penny asks, "is the corpse someone we recognise?"

[nobilis] GM says (to Wilfred), "Michel and Raul (and Kori) are at Rafe's residence; everyone else is at the chancel"

[nobilis] Gaston says, "I'm in the chancel, having been doing random things last week."

[nobilis] Alexandra says, "in chancel"

[nobilis] Michel says, "it's a rabbit"

Franklin says, "He's in his office, but apart from telling me that this happened in a back corner of the library, he didn't know anything. He told us to find out."

[nobilis] Wilfred says (to GM), "okay"

GM says (to Raul), "it looks like a rabbit -- the throat's been slashed cleanly and (it looks like) the blood captured somewhere"

[nobilis] Wilfred asks (of Michel), "is it boiled?"

Gunther arrives, looking for booty.

GM says, "possibly in the small bowl resting inside the circle on the floor"

Raul asks (of rabbity corpse), "Who killed you, then?"

Michel tries to divine the locations of any rats in the general area

Penny asks, "this looks like a ritual. can we look it up, or did those books go?"

Gaston says, "That is a good question."

[nobilis] GM says (to Michel), "if that falls under empty places I guess you can locate a few"

Gaston says, "Which book has been excised, I mean. Or books."

Michel says (to Penny), "<If it's a ritual of any significance, it'll be in the book he stole>"

Michel addresses a rat in mythic.

Raul says, "<Rafe has been up to some very naughty things.>"

GM says, "The rabbit's spirit twitches its nose at Raul and then curls up again. "In cage -- long time -- close together -- then brought out -- then pain -- then dark""

Penny goes to look up the ritual, then

Raul asks (of rabbit), "There were many of you?"

Michel asks (of rat), "Were you there when they killed the rabbit?"

GM says, "it appears from what Bart's said that several shelves of books have been rendered blank, and possibly some other scattered books -- it's hard to chart the extent of the damage due to the library's mazy nature"

GM says, ""Many before -- me alone here""

Gaston gathers a group of monks and gets them to look for more blanked books, and try to spot a pattern in the ones they find.

GM says, ""Yess, the blood called out. I smelled it.""

Gunther disappears through an invisible gap in the MUD. You think you may have heard the sounds of chatting before the gap closed again.

Wilfred looks rather miffed.

GM says, ""I crawled from my hole and came into the room.""

Raul asks (of rabbit), "Do you know why the pain and death?"

Gaston says, "I will investigate the shelf that Bart found."

Michel says (to Raul), "<rats have more brains than rabbits, and if they're alive chances are they'll have a little better perspective>"

Michel asks (of rat), "Did you see what they did with the blood?"

Gaston says, "Hmm, where is Raul's map? It might come in useful here."

GM says, ""Throat hurt. Pain.""

Raul says (to Michel), "<I'll keep asking, in case. Not like there isn't two of us.>"

[Crows-Nest] Franklin says, "hrm. I'm sort of trying to wait for the GM to focus on the chancel people, but franklin is basically already wherever Bart said it happened"

Penny flip flip flip in books of rituals

[nobilis] Franklin says, "also, #nobilis"

[nobilis] Michel says, "(I'm looking for a mental image here, rather than words)"

[nobilis] Gaston says, "Yeah, I have a bunch of questions to ask."

GM says (to Penny), "you're not digging up much of use without specifics, but blood is useful in a number of things, particularly as payment or a lure for summoned creatures"

[nobilis] Gaston says, "Just trying to set some things in motion without distracting him too much for now."

Penny says, "hmm, a creature summoned to blank books? wacky"

Penny says, "or somebody payed to use a heckuva lot of white-out"

[nobilis] GM asks (of Penny), "sorry, perhaps I misunderstood. Which are you looking up? The ritual scene Raul found? Or the blanked books in the chancel?"

GM says, ""poured -- big predator appeared -- I ran and hid, to return after it had done drinking""

Wilfred says, "Perhaps the card catalog will say what's supposed to be shelved here ..."

[nobilis] Franklin says, "I think she's not sure"

[nobilis] Penny says, "the blanked books"

Raul says, "Oh, hell."

Michel says, "<Big predator? What like?>"

[nobilis] Franklin says, "oh, in that case she was sure, but I was confused"

[nobilis] Penny says, "but I misunderstood where you were describing what, so"

Raul says, "<Looks like Rafe did a summoning.>"

[nobilis] GM says, "there are no real records of spells that blank books"

Gaston says (to Wilfred), "Good thinking."

[nobilis] Franklin says, "half of the team is not in the chancel"

[nobilis] Franklin says, "the rabbit is not in the chancel"

[nobilis] Penny says, "so pretend I forwarded the info to them, and ignore my wackyness"

[nobilis] Michel asks, "How old is the corpse, roughly?"

[nobilis] GM says, "I mean, there are ways to do it -- destroy the ink or erase the words or something -- but no real records of it"

GM says, ""It had -- legs -- and teeth -- and eyes""

Wilfred says (to Gaston), "Bureaucratic filing is part of my domain, after all."

[Crows-Nest] Gaston says (to GM), "I can't help but hear that to the Life of Brian theme tune."

GM says, ""And man climbed on its back -- I did not go""

Michel says (to Raul), "look for tracks"

GM says, ""When it had left, I came out to drink the blood and eat the scraps""

GM says, ""But all was gone save a few drops""

Alexandra wanders out into the chancel to find others and complain about the pair of blanked books she's just found while poking about in the econ books

Gaston says (to Alexandra), "Really? Hmm."

Michel says, "whatever they summoned had legs, so it's safe to say it walked. and things that walk tend to leave footprints"

Raul nods and asks the floor, "The man summoned a large beast which he rode. Which way did he go?"

Wilfred asks (of Alexandra), "Oh, you too? Economy, was it?"

GM says, "The books chosen seem a bit random; the one shelf, for instance, was partly some records of Egyptian grainaries and partly bound copies of Vogue"

Franklin says, "We are already losing irreplaceable volumes. This is highly disturbing."

Michel says, "<god, I love our filing system>"

[Crows-Nest] Wilfred says, "Bound copies of Vogue? Maybe this isn't such a bad thing after all..."

Gaston says, "What could be the motive for this? Assuming it is not a natural occurence."

GM says, ""I did not see it," the floor says. "It leapt and was gone.""

Gaston says, "I assume if somebody wanted to read the books, they would simply steal them."

[Crows-Nest] Raul asks, "We've lost the Vogue How Hot Are You &c. quizes?"

Penny says, "man, and that was the volume with the special offer on tweed suits, too"

Gaston says, "Unless this is an elaborate misdirection scheme."

Wilfred says (to Franklin), "To say nothing of the fact that it completely messes up the System."

Michel asks (of Raul), "tracks would fit into your domain, n'est-ce pas?"

Raul asks (of floor), "lept? Out of the room and into another, or out of the house all together?"

Franklin asks, "Is it being done long-distance, or is something maleficent actually inside the chancel?"

Raul says (to Michel), "Hm, interesting. I've never tried."

Michel says, "<this could just be the banes playing silly buggers>"

Wilfred says, "We should make all entering powers sign a registry."

Raul tries to see the path the creature took.

Gaston says (to Michel), "<I was wondering that also.>"

Michel says, "<they've been quiet as yet>"

Penny says, "hmm, maybe our landlord could be of help"

GM says (to Raul), "now that you're looking, you see gouges in the floor, perhaps from claws"

Alexandra asks (of Penny), "you're the most in-touch with the Realm ... sense anything nasty afoot?"

Penny concentrates

GM says, "they're dug in deeply, and then they suggest it lept .."

Raul looks at the gouges, then follows to see where they lead.

GM asks, "forward?"

Franklin says, "Our landlord is the one who said, 'Go figure out why this is happening.'"

Gaston asks (of Penny), "Also, do you sense any attacks on your domain?"

Penny concentrates on realm first, then domain

Gaston says, "Blanked-out books would seem to affect Language, unless this is purely an attack on the library."

Michel measures the size of the gouges

GM says, "the wall in front of the circle has a lightly sketched out diamond on it"

Gaston says, "Rather than a general effect."

Raul says, "Huh."

GM says (to Michel), "they seem reasonable sizeable -- like tiger claws might make"

Raul peers at the diamond sketch.

Raul asks (of wall), "Say, did a man on a beast leap through you?"

[nobilis] Penny asks (of GM), "do I sense anything?"

GM says, "There's something hungry in the chancel"

GM says, "hungry and hiding"

Wilfred says, "Well, together we all define large aspects of the domain, no? The words, the pages, the silence, the stacks, the catalog, the recording...."

Franklin says, "I guess I could do a divination on the pages themselves to see if any trace of what happened got left in the paper."

Gaston says, "It is the words which have vanished."

GM says, ""He leapt right at me! But he never touched!""

[nobilis] Alexandra says, "eeep"

Penny relays the 'hungry and hiding' message

Raul says, "I say again: oh, hell."

Michel says, "so, a portal"

Michel asks, "any chance of tracking where it went, Raul?"

Raul says, "I have a terrible suspicion of where this is leading."

Franklin frowns so that his entire face furrows.

Wilfred says (to Franklin), "Actually ... I'd speak to the books immediately beside the blank ones."

[nobilis] Alexandra asks, "and HMMM goodness the other crew is missing a large and nasty beastie. y'think there might be a link?"

[nobilis] Raul says (to GM), "What's required for me to track the path."

[nobilis] Raul asks, "er, ?"

[nobilis] Penny says, "SO I WAS RIGHT"

Gaston says (to Raul), "<I do not suppose your missing clawed animal eats words, by any chance?>"

Franklin says (to Wilfred), "You don't need me to do that."

Wilfred says (to Franklin), "just a thought."

[nobilis] GM says, "I think this is easier than the previous path-finding, since this is more direct"

Raul says (to Gaston), "<That's my guess ath this point.>"

Alison has disconnected.

Penny says, "so, something hungry is hiding in our chancel"

[nobilis] Raul says, "Ah, good."

[nobilis] GM says, "so probably it's a lesser divination"

Wilfred turns to the non-blank books beside the blank books. "Hello books."

Gaston says, "<This creature is not sounding physically dangerous, I have to say.>"

Gaston says, "<It may even be useful, for removing tattoos and the like.>"

GM says, "The books rustle, hiding their faces in a frightened manner"

Penny says, "I'll see if I can divine where"

[nobilis] Raul says, "Then I shall divine away."

Michel says (to Gaston), "<You have tattoos? I thought you were into that perfect-reality crap>"

Franklin tries to divine what he can from the blank pages themselves.

GM says, "Comfortingly or not, it doesn't seem like the path leads to the chancel; or if so, it's not a direct path"

Penny says (to michel), "<he has a tattoo if himself, duh>"

Wilfred asks (of books), "do you know who did this?"

Penny says, "<er, of>"

Gaston says (to Michel), "Not me, but I happened to observe -- er, nobody."

Raul asks (of GM), "Where to first, then?"

GM says (to Franklin), "you get the unpleasant sensation of a raspy tongue licking you"

Franklin says, "Bleah! Hghhrrrg!"

Michel says (to Penny), "<while the meta-ness of that appeals to me, the narcissism is unhealthily Gaston-like>"

Franklin drops the book.

Penny says (to michel), "<mais oui>"

GM says (to Raul), "off into darkness -- then chill -- then the air seems to thin, and stone crumbles beneath your feet"

Franklin says, "Something licked these pages clean."

Gaston asks, "Literally?"

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "the IC conversation offmud is scaring me too, now"

Franklin says, "Literally."

Raul touches the wall for support.

GM says (to Raul), "the wind whips across your hair"

Michel asks, "Are you all right?"

Gaston asks, "What kind of ink were they written in?"

Gaston asks, "Not blood or anything baroque like that?"

Raul says, "I'm trying to find where Rafe and his pet went. Not straight to the chancel, interestingly enough."

Gaston says, "I have not read this 'Vogue'."

GM says, "(not these, although you do have things in blood)"

Alexandra says, "Ick ick ick. Friedman and Vogue. This thing has terrible taste"

Michel crouches down and doodles in the dust with his non-smoking hand

[nobilis] Penny says, "I'll guess I can't divine where this hungry thing is, then"

Franklin says, "We might have a book that would tell us what kind of creature feeds like this, but maybe it's been licked clean already."

Raul says, "It feels like someplace high on a mountain."

[nobilis] GM says, "(no, sorry -- it's not clear what this means)"

Gaston says, "I do not believe it is possible to physically lick the words off of a magazine page, but if it were so, a chemical analysis might yield results."

Raul says (to GM), "(can I follow the path, or try to find a more normal route there?)"

Gaston says, "Traces of saliva or some such."

Michel says (to Raul), "If I could get a look, I might be able to have some idea of where"

Wilfred says (to books), "Excuse me. Tell us where the perpetrator went."

Raul sends Michel a vision of what he saw.

Franklin says, "It is going to be difficult to do a systematic search of the chancel, what with its changeable nature."

Penny says (to gaston), "I tell you what. you lick the pages of these vogue magazines which didn't get wiped, you tell us if it's possible"

GM says, ""Off into the stacks," the books say. "We fear. It went away -- but will it come back?""

[Crows-Nest] Raul says, "Mmm, passion fruit perfume."

Gaston says (to Penny), "Hmm, someone appears to have dripped saliva on to them already."

[nobilis] Michel asks, "Possible to divine whether it's any mountain wilderness on Earth, and if so, where?"

Franklin asks, "I don't suppose we could lay a trap -- make some kind of poisoned books that give the damn thing a peptic ulcer or make it fall asleep or something?"

GM says (to Raul), "well, this pathway has faded; you can try and work out the ritual more precisely or try and work out where it leads to and then find a path there"

Wilfred says (to books), "we're going to stop it."

Gaston says, "I wonder if some of the monks are feeling frustrated."

Penny says (to Gaston), "only onto the pages of male models"

Penny says, "oh, er, *cough* right"

Penny says, "the other pages"

[nobilis] GM asks (of Michel), "hmm, that would be under your domain, wouldn't it?"

Gaston says (to Franklin), "Or some kind of ink that we can trace, perhaps./"

[nobilis] Michel asks, "I guess so. Minor divination?"

[nobilis] GM says, "yeah, I think so"

[nobilis] Michel goes for it.

GM says, "Michel and Raul concentrate together on the place that Raul found -- it has the feel of Earth, but long ago; it is clearly on Earth no longer"

[Crows-Nest] Franklin says, "brr"

Michel says, "Lo mentioned his chancel was in the Himalayas originally"

Penny wanders off to go question random monks about whether they've seen anything skulking in the shadows of the chancel that didn't appear to be michel or gaston

Raul says, "He did indeed. We need to know more about this ritual."

Michel says, "Hmm."

Gaston says (to Raul), "<Can you summarise what you have found?>"

[nobilis] Alexandra asks (of GM), "Hmm. Could we use RMP for a preservation to make the books more resistent to attack, while we hunt the critter?"

Gaston says, "<They summoned a beast, travelled into the past, and are now hiding in our chancel?>"

Michel says, "<Not our chancel, at least not directly>"

[nobilis] Franklin says, "if we could make the books scream bloody murder, that would help too"

Raul says, "<Rafe summoned a beast, rode it, and lept to what may have been a high mountain far in the past.>"

Wilfred says, "Hm. Rituals...."

GM says, ""Yes, m'lady," says one of them. "I have seen *something* -- I had thought it was just the pathways rearranging themselves -- but it made a noise as it walked down the corridor""

Gaston says, "<If he destoyed Lo's chancel, perhaps ours is next.>"

Michel says, "<I think by the past it means part of Earth that became a chancel or something>"

[nobilis] Alexandra says (to Franklin), "Ooo, hey, there's an idea. Get the books to yelp as they're attacked, to help us locate the beastie"

Penny asks (of monk), "which area of the chancel was this?"

Raul describes the floor and the diamond on the wall to everyone.

[nobilis] GM says, "hmm, you can try and do a preservation or -- yeah, that"

Michel says, "<no time travel involved>"

Franklin says (to Gaston), "<I have been trying to tell everyone to prepare for an attack for two weeks now.>"

GM says (to Penny), ""I can lead you there, m'lady -- of course, the ways change""

Michel says, "<seems likely it's just a long time since it was on Earth>"

Gaston says (to Franklin), "<Prepare how, exactly?>"

Penny says (to monk), "well, it would be of help, at least"

Raul says, "<Hm, yeah.>"

Penny says (to monk), "please, lead on"

[nobilis] GM says, "he's been drilling the monks while wearing a funny hat"

Franklin says, "<Alertness, at least.>"

[nobilis] Alexandra asks, "I like the 'get the books to notify us' idea. But what would that be/cost?"

[nobilis] Franklin says, "exactly"

Wilfred says (to Franklin), "<Did you? Okay, I'm going to institute a proper memo-circulation procedure to ensure that such warnings get disseminated to everyone....>"

Franklin says, "You do that."

Penny says, "<okay, one of the monks spotted something. I am going to the place they thought they saw something odd>"

Franklin follows Penny and the monk.

Michel says, "Now, it would seem there are two seperate rituals here: a summoning and a gateway"

[nobilis] GM says, "I think it would be a level-5 major divination"

Raul says, "Unless the creature was somehow required for the getaway."

Raul says, "This house isn't going anywhere. I think we should head back to the chancel and look up this ritual, since everyone else is hunting the boojum."

[nobilis] Alexandra says, "blerf. Well, if we think it's needed, I can burn significant RMP for it."

GM says, "eventually Penny and Franklin arrive. "I think it was here," the monk says. And indeed -- there's a patch of a dozen books, all blank."

Michel says, "we know that the person who did this must have had some level of power- perhaps only very minor magic was necessary for travel."

Franklin says, "Poor things."

[nobilis] Alexandra says, "unless we can think of a more useful area to use 'em."

[nobilis] Penny says, "it'd cost me 3 rmp's, but I'll do so if you want"

Michel says, "I'd assume that most of what we find is for the summoning."

[nobilis] Gaston asks, "Only 1 dmp for franklin, no?"

[nobilis] GM says, "there are probably cheaper things you can do -- level 2 minor preservations to preserve some of the book, or level 1 divination to locate more blank books, or, hrm"

[nobilis] Gaston says, "Locating more blank books sounds useful."

Raul says, "But with more knowledge of the ritual, we may know *what* was summoned."

[nobilis] Alexandra says (to Penny), "I'm inclined to have you hang onto yours, in case we need anything *really* expensive"

Wilfred asks (of books), "oh yes ... what did the perpertrator look like?"

Raul asks, "And I do think the beast must have had something to do with it. Otherwise, why not just go straight to wherever he went?"

Penny looks around the patch

Michel says, "it seems unlikely he'll return, so"

[nobilis] GM says, "or, yeah, you could try and work out a way to do it as a domain miracle"

[nobilis] Franklin asks, "can't I just tune into some sort of general paper-in-distress vibe?"

[nobilis] GM says, "look for the paper-signal"

[nobilis] Franklin says, "heh"

[nobilis] Gaston exclaims, "Look, it's the paper signal! Quick, to the paper-cave!"

Penny also questions anything around her about the beastie

[nobilis] GM says, "if you concentrate you can (do a minor divination to) figure out if any books are being threatened right now"

[nobilis] Franklin says, "I do so"

GM says, ""Grey," say the books, "like smoke -- we fear smoke""

Franklin concentrates.

Michel says (to Raul), "I agree."

[nobilis] Penny asks, "out of interest, can I do that too?"

GM says, ""A tail -- jaws -- a tongue, a fearsome tongue""

[nobilis] Penny asks, "or is language not close enough?"

Raul says, "Okay, back to a library, then."

Franklin asks, "Grey? Smoke?"

[nobilis] GM says, "if you consider written text to be covered by language, sure"

Franklin asks, "Tail, jaws, tongue. Hrm. Where are these frightened books?"

[nobilis] Penny says, "I think it is, as penny is using her domain to help with writing and stuff"

Michel says, "Setting this place on fire on the way out holds a certain fascination"

[nobilis] GM says, "ok then"

GM says, "Penny and Franklin concentrate"

[nobilis] Franklin says, "I think that makes sense"

Michel says, "but this time I'll pass"

Raul says, "Mmf. Let's leave it just in case."

GM says, "then, aha, paper blanking"

Michel heads librarywards.

GM says, "words vanishing"

GM says, "a tongue"

Raul follows along, stopping in Rafe's kitchen to grab an apple.

Gaston asks (of Penny,Franklin), "Where?"

Penny says (to Gaston), "that way"

Gaston gathers some weapons for everybody.

[Crows-Nest] Franklin asks, "you're going to eat fruit from that guy's house?"

Gaston goes thataway.

Penny runs, pulling out her duelling pistol as she goes

[Crows-Nest] Raul says, "Just because he's a satanist doesn't mean he's not for proper nutrition."

Wilfred gets a red-tape-spewing pistol.

GM says, "the twisting corridors don't help much"

Penny asks things 'which way?' when she gets to the new blank area

Gaston asks, "How close are we?"

Wilfred hurriedly fills out a requisition for straightened corridors form.

GM says, "but, ah, there, Penny and Gaston turn a corner and see the floor covered in pulled-down volumes"

Franklin puffs along behind.

GM says, "and something slipping away around another corner"

[nobilis] Raul asks (of Franklin), "Any way you could do a divination of the *future*?"

Gaston dashes after it.

[nobilis] Franklin says, "hrm"

Wilfred exclaims, "There she blows!"

Franklin says, "<What does it look like?>"

Gaston says, "<I only saw a flicker of movement.>"

Penny flies up above the shelves to try and take a shortcut

Wilfred says, "<Where's Raul?>"

[Crows-Nest] Franklin says, "yay flying"

[Crows-Nest] Gaston says, "Woo."

GM says, "(don't the shelves go up to the ceiling?)"

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "SUPERPENNY"

Raul says (to Wilfred), "<We're on our way back right now.>"

[nobilis] Franklin says, "not all the way to the ceiling, necessarily, no"

Wilfred says, "<Raul, we need you>"

Penny says (to GM), "(I always assumed not, on prior occasions)"

GM says, "(ok then)"

Gaston says, "<Somebody who wants to be useful can determine where I am on the map and arrange an ambush for this thing.>"

[nobilis] Franklin says, "ceilings are tall here"

Michel enters the chancel, clambers onto his Norton.

GM says, "Penny soars upwards, scanning the shadowy areas between the shelves"

GM says, "ah, there it is --"

Alexandra seperates from the group briefly to get a very large net thingie from the weapons stock

GM says, "no, it's slipped into a side-passage again"

Raul bumps up to super-speed, headed for the others.

Penny follow follow

Franklin reaches the most recent pile of dead books and stops.

Gaston says, "Moi aussi."

Alexandra follows Penny's lead to flap and follow

Gaston says, "Er, follows, that is."

GM says, "either accidentally or on purpose, it bumps a shelf, which creaks uneasily and knocks some books off"

Gaston asks, "What is it?"

Wilfred reels out some red tape as he runs.

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "if I were wilfred, I'd be forced to pick those up"

Michel putters along the corridors at about eight miles an hour, legs on the ground most of the time

GM says, "Raul and Michel wind their way through the corridors"

[Crows-Nest] Raul says, "or if you were vampire penny"

Penny attempts to dodge the books and keep following

Franklin hears thumping noises echoing around, fidgets with a stack of sharp-edged index cards he keeps in his pocket.

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "and COUNT THEM ALL"

Raul says (as he passes Michel), "Can't you run faster than that thing?"

GM says, "it's hard to make out what it looks like, but it's, well, probably the size of a horse, only lower-slung and with a long tail like a lizard"

[Crows-Nest] Wilfred says, "Ooo, point...."

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "just don't steal my left sock"

GM says, "it seems a dark grey in color"

Raul says, "<If it had book preferences we could bait it.>"

[nobilis] GM says (to Raul), "show off"

Michel says (to Raul), "Not on the straights. It's these windy little twists and turns"

Michel says, "we could race if you like"

Franklin says (to Raul), "<I've been wondering about that.>"

Gaston says, "<Let's just surround it and attack it.>"

Gaston says, "<Violence appears to be the answer to most things these days.>"

[nobilis] Franklin asks, "is it more mammalian or reptilian?"

Wilfred . o O ( At least it's left a papertrail... )

Michel says, "<all right, let's outflank it>"

Raul says, "<I'm going to try coming at you guys from a different angle to box the thing in.>"

Penny pauses, loads gun with tranquilisers, continues

Raul asks (of Michel), "You head left; I'll go right. Do you have a stun gun?"

Michel says, "<raul, you know the layout of the chancel better than anyone, you direct us>"

Gaston says, "<Well, I am behind it, Penny is above.>"

Wilfred says, "<Let's see if I can tie it up in red tape>"

Michel says (to Raul), "sadly not"

Penny says, "<I'd like it alive, really>"

Michel says, "all mine are lethal. kori had a lot of stun stuff-"

Raul tosses one to Michel.

GM says, "Penny (and Raul) are the only ones really keeping up at this point, since everyone else is forced to go between the stacks"

[nobilis] Alexandra asks, "can I burn a lot of RMP for a lesser change to make the floor sticky, to trap the critter where it is?"

[nobilis] Alexandra says, "(Alex is flying as well)"

Michel revs off in pursuit

[nobilis] GM says, "yeah, you can do a lesser creation, I guess"

[nobilis] GM says, "(which'd be level 4)"

[nobilis] Alexandra says, "oh, cool. I figured it'd be a 6. I do so, then, which'll cost me 3 RMP"

GM says, "the creature stops abruptly"

GM says, "unfortunately, in a shadowy bit, so it's still hard to figure out what it looks like"

Gaston continues to dash around, having no clue where it is any more.

[nobilis] Michel says, "y'know, if we start blasting away I'd appreciate it if someone spent an RMP or so to stop the books getting shot up"

Alexandra circles about slightly overhead, trying to get a better look

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "well, I was gonna stun it, not blast it"

Raul closes the distance cautiously.

Michel says, "<Raul, how close are we to encirclement?>"

Wilfred says, "<Which way now, oh powers that fly?>"

Penny hovers above the creature so the others can see troughly where it is

Penny says, "er, roughly"

Alexandra says, "Try not to start shooting, those of you with twitchy trigger fingers"

Franklin pokes around carefully, trying to walk towards where he sees the flying people hovering.

Raul says, "<Penny, Alex and I are by it.>"

[nobilis] Penny says, "what I said on #crows"

Michel flips the stungun around in his non-throttle hand

GM says, "folks are getting closer -- and then suddenly a black cloud billows out from where it is"

Penny says (to alex), "<didn't you have a net.... whoa"

Alexandra says, "Ok, stunning NOW would probably be a good idea"

Penny fires into the cloud

Raul dives into the cloud.

Alexandra belatedly activates the net, useless though that likely now is

[nobilis] Penny says, "I SHOT BEFORE HE DIVED"

[nobilis] (from Gaston) Raul says (to Penny), "Ow!"

[nobilis] GM says, "(yeah, but he has super-speed)"

Michel screeches to a halt, so as to be able to aim with both hands

[nobilis] Penny says, "I'm closer"

[nobilis] Raul says, "If you hear me going zzzzzz you'll know you hit."

[nobilis] GM says, "hee hee"

Michel observes the cloud and prepares to pick off anything leaving it

[nobilis] Penny says, "and gravity is on my side"

GM says, "there are some noises from within the cloud, and the shelf nearby trembles"

GM says, "dropping some more books into the cloud"

[nobilis] Penny says, "and other flimsy excuses"

Gaston asks, "If I've arrived by now, can I trace the echoes to get a sonar picture of the cloud interior?"

GM says, "which eventually clears to reveal Raul, a net, some books, and no creature"

Gaston says, "Oh, no need."

Penny says, "argh"

Wilfred tapes the remaining books to the shelves!

Michel says (to Raul), "nice net"

GM says, "(and other people arrive about now)"

Wilfred asks, "What happened?"

Raul thrashes about. "I think I need de-netting."

Franklin says, "It was Raul all along!"

Franklin says, "Okay, just kidding."

Raul drops the book he had been violently pinning to the ground.

Penny says (to Raul), "phew, I didn't hit you'"

[nobilis] GM exclaims (at Franklin), "rip off his mask!"

Gaston says (to Franklin), "Please do not refer to me as a pesky kid."

Alexandra says, "Damn damn damn"

[nobilis] Raul says, "And I would have gotten away with it, too, if it hadn't have been for those pesky excrucians."

Alexandra says, while touching down to detangle Raul

Wilfred says (to Franklin), "If it were, Michel would have a large goofy great dane following him about on a quest for doggie snax."

Penny concentrates to see if there's still any danger to the chancel

Franklin says, "Somehow I don't think it did anything but move somewhere else in the chancel."

Raul tries to divine where the beast went.

Franklin says, "Unless it's hiding in those books that dropped. Although, I'm not sure what I mean by that."

Penny says (to franklin), "I am just trying to work that out"

Michel blows a smoke ring at Franklin that is highly expressive of his disgust at this idea

Alexandra chews out the floor for a bit about its pathetic show of sticking force

Penny says, "throw the net over the books anyway"

GM says (to Raul), "it went between the stacks there, and then .. hmm, the path it trails off"

Michel says (to Alexandra), "well, raul and the net stuck to it"

Wilfred begins reshelving the fallen books.

Franklin makes the paper on Michel's cigarette unravel.

[nobilis] Penny asks, "is there still danger to the chancel?"

[nobilis] Michel says, "not in my auctoritas you don't"

[nobilis] GM says (to Penny), "well, it doesn't seem like you caught anything"

Wilfred says, "Perhaps there's a way to summon the beastie."

[nobilis] GM says, "and there's still the vague feeling of hunger (and now, anger)"

[nobilis] Franklin says, "oh I could do it all right"

Gaston researches this beast, based on what we saw of it.

Wilfred asks, "Anyone have a clue as to how it got here in the first place?"

Penny says, "I think it's still in the chancel"

Michel says (to Wilfred), "I am not in the mood for any more summoning"

Wilfred says (to Michel), "But I am."

[nobilis] Raul asks (of Franklin), "What about the attempted future divination?"

Penny says (to wilfred), "no killing bunnies"

Alexandra uses superresearchskillz for a quick search through the books for info on the beastie, now that they have a slightly better idea what it looks like

Wilfred asks (of Penny), "Bunnies?"

Michel says, "unless you want to donate some blood. I already gave"

[nobilis] Franklin says, "I dunno. depends on what the GM says"

Penny says (to wilfred), "for blood"

[nobilis] Alexandra says (to Gaston), "you win for quicker"

[nobilis] Penny says, "hmmmm"

Gaston says (to Alexandra), "The smoke-and-vanishing gimmick, too."

Raul dusts off his chinos. "Thank goodness that was a net and not a high-voltage shot."

[nobilis] Gaston says, "Two super research wonks are better than one."

GM says, "oh, and as the black cloud drifts away, it leaves little letters scattered on the floor and shelves and books and Raul"

[nobilis] Penny says, "NOW he tells us"

Alexandra says (to Gaston), "I always suspected David Copperfield's true form was reptilian"

Raul asks, "Hey, what's this?"

Franklin says, "Hmmmmm."

Raul says, "I seem to have a quiz on the front of my shirt."

[Crows-Nest] Wilfred says, "I was about to say I was born in the year of the Rabbit, then realised that that would make Wilfred either too young or too old for my concept of him."

Penny reads the letters

Gaston says (to Raul), "You appear to be a stylishly cut modern suit by Alexander McQueen, for 870 pounds."

[nobilis] GM says (to Franklin), "I think, since you know roughly what you're looking for, you could take a good guess with a major divination (level 5)"

Gaston says (to Raul), "According to the footnote stuck to your chin there."

GM says (to Penny), "just random letters, in a variety of languages"

Raul brushes it off.

GM says, "sometimes in words or fragments"

Raul says, "We have a letter-powered beast."

[nobilis] Franklin asks, "what would this be, predicting the exact spot of a future attack?"

[nobilis] GM says, "I guess, yeah"

Penny says (to Raul), "I assumed that was after he'd digested... no, wait"

[nobilis] GM says, "although the future is always somewhat misty"

Raul says, "And I want a stun gun with a good range."

Wilfred says, "Sounds like something straight out of Sesame Street."

[nobilis] Gaston says, "That's Sargent, not Raul."

[Crows-Nest] Raul says (to GM), "that's what I always say"

[nobilis] Franklin says, "I don't remember how many MPs I've used in the current go round, one or two maybe"

Michel says, "I wonder if we could get some homing stun-missiles"

[nobilis] Franklin says, "well, worth a shot, by gum"

Penny says (to michel), "in this chancel? of course"

Michel goes to investigate this possibility

Gaston says, "Large portable fans might be useful, to negate any smoke effects."

GM says, "meanwhile, Gaston and Alexandra poke around for information"

Franklin finds a quiet spot and concentrates on the future.

Penny tries to divine any current trouble-spots

Wilfred researches summoning.

GM says, "the cloud is somewhat suggestive -- there are land-creatures that can defend themselves with a cloud, both skunks and more mythical things"

Gaston says, "I was thinking of squid, too."

GM says, "but nothing exactly like this -- nothing that feeds off books"

GM says, "(except, of course, bookworms)"

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "GIANT BOOKWORM OF DOOM"

GM says (to Franklin), "you think hard -- there are a couple possible spots that might receive something in the next hour"

GM asks, "do you want to look ahead farther, or is that good?"

GM says (to Wilfred), "there's a fair amount to research"

GM asks (of Wilfred), "can you be more specific?"

[Crows-Nest] Gaston says, "It's more like a pony-sized lizard."

[nobilis] Franklin says, "if I really looked hard, I could see us attempting to trap it in one of those spots"

[Crows-Nest] Gaston says, "I suspect liza."

[nobilis] Franklin says, "the future is so weird"

Michel wanders back, with an immense missile launcher over one shoulder and fresh caffeine in his veins

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "that's a horrid thing she did to trendy, then"

[Crows-Nest] Raul says, "She's hoping people will be more interested in a pony-lizard than were in just a lizard"

Wilfred asks (of GM), "Well ... I guess I'd no more once we figure out what sort of creature it was. Are we assuming it's the same beastie that Rafe summoned?"

Alexandra says (to Michel), "I hope that's a stun-missile launcher. Unless you're planning to incinerate some shelving"

Gaston says, "I think we should try to make some booby-trapped books."

Michel says (to Alexandra), "but of course"

Gaston says, "Though I'm not sure what the trap should be, exactly."

Raul gets an electricity-based stun gun and a tranquilizer pistol.

Raul says (to Gaston), "Nets are out, if it's just going to vanish in a puff of QWOIVSUDS"

Penny just reloads her pistol with more tranquiliser bullets

Gaston says (to Raul), "I'm thinking some kind of poison or tranquiliser."

Franklin says (to Gaston), "I think we should try that, too. I've got a couple of places divined where we should try laying traps."

Michel asks, "the corridors in the chancel are somewhat fluid, yes?"

Franklin says, "Now we just need to think of how to make traps."

[Crows-Nest] Raul says (to Penny), "There's the problem. You're using tranquilizers with an 's' instead of a 'z'. If the lizard's not British, it won't be knocked out."

[Crows-Nest] Alexandra says, "hee hee"

Gaston asks (of Franklin), "Can you do something to the paper in the books around those areas?"

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "ha"

Michel says, "Presumably someone who is powerful in the chancel could make the corridors change shape as we hunt it, to steer it and make life easier for us."

[Crows-Nest] Duchess laughs

Franklin says, "Hrm."

GM says (to Wilfred), "well, you might be -- they couldn't find anything that just matched the description of the beast here, let alone with the characteristics of the other one"

Wilfred decides to concentrate on Rafe's summoning routine ... see what sort of beastie it would summon.

Penny says (to michel), "you, draining"

Raul says, "I wonder if we could close off some of the possible sections, making them unreachable."

Gaston says, "Presumably this thing is able to teleport."

Wilfred asks (of Raul/Michel), "I don't suppose you could clarify exactly what evidence of routine you saw?"

Franklin says, "I'm running a bit low on steam. I don't want to do any more than I have to in case I end up tapped out when I really need it."

Michel raises an eyebrow at Penny

Raul asks (of Gaston), "But why teleport when you can walk?"

[nobilis] Penny says, "I don't think I can do that without spending RMPs"

Gaston says, "True."

Raul beams Wilfred images of what he saw in the room.

Michel says (to Wilfred), "A circle on the floor, candles, a bowl of blood, animal bled from the throat"

Michel says, "most of the blood seems to have been consumed by the ritual"

[nobilis] Penny says, "and if we're talking even just one RMP for each corridor, they'll be gone damned fast"

Franklin says, "I wonder if this thing breathes? If I were near it, not that I want to be near it, I could fill its trachea with paper and suffocate it."

Wilfred says, "Hm. Blood sacrifice. How dreadfully routine. I like it."

Michel says (to Franklin), "Or I could just remove the air."

[nobilis] Raul asks (of GM), "Hm. Can I connect the possible points with a very short path?"

Franklin says, "You seemed more interested in shooting it."

[nobilis] Michel says, "so make the corridor it's in curve into a closed loop"

[nobilis] GM says, "it'll be a bit tricky since the corridors shift, but at least for you, you can find a path between"

Raul says, "I'm going to spend the next little bit finding the shortest-path route among all the points Franklin saw."

Michel says, "diamond on the wall, but we think that's for something else"

Gaston asks, "Hm. Do we have the equipment to make up some kind of radioactive ink?"

Gaston asks, "Something we can trace?"

GM says (to Wilfred), "well, it doesn't narrow it down too much -- it's presumably something semi-living, because of the blood, and the claws, and the rat said it was a predator"

Gaston says, "Putting some sort of soporific in there would be good too."

Franklin says, "We probably have a medical lab with radioactive iodine."

[Crows-Nest] Franklin says, "why I say that, I dunno"

Michel says, "Maybe if we gave it something it couldn't digest. Some unutterabbly fluffy, bilious trash that'd make it ill and easy to catch."

GM says (to Wilfred), "you could probably cobble something together from the books you have to summon something of this type, if you knew what you wanted to summon"

Gaston says, "I'll make some spiked ink, and photocopy up some booby-traps."

Michel looks at Penny. "Could you possibly produce some really awful language?"

Wilfred says (to GM), "I'm trying to figure out from the routine what it was exactly that was summoned."

Alexandra says (to Gaston), "good luck getting this thing to go after the trapped books, though"

Penny (to michel) points to the Mills&Boon section

Gaston says (to Alexandra), "As far as I can tell, it is not particularly picky."

GM says (to Wilfred), "there's not enough information to do that; you'd need to know, eg, what words were said"

Wilfred says (to Michel), "Well ... It *did* consume the Vogue magazines."

Michel says, "since it appears to feed on the mythic aspect rather than the physical, if we're going to trap it I'd try that method rather than any normal poison"

Michel says (to Wilfred), "run-of-the-mill crap."

Michel says, "if Penny used her domain to create something unutterably stodgy..."

Gaston says (to Michel), "It withstood the Vogue, as Wilfred points out."

Wilfred says (to Michel), "I think stodginess is my domain."

Penny says, "why use domain? doesn't wilfred.. right"

Michel says, "yes, but it's easy to write something that's just bad"

Michel says, "it takes effort to write truly indigestible drivel"

[nobilis] Penny asks, "how much would that cost me?"

Raul returns. "I've got a path I can travel, at least, between those spots."

Penny thinks, grabs a blank book, and creates some awful language for the book

Wilfred looks over Penny's shoulder. "Whew. Done some temp work in a lawyer's office recently?"

Michel goes into English-professor mode, flicks through Penny's creation, holds back urge to sieze red pen

Penny looks at the spine. "Legal Ramifications of Lint at Crime Scenes">

[nobilis] GM says, "hee hee"

Gaston says, "And my vicious ink should be ready soon, if the monks aren't slacking off."

Michel asks (of Franklin), "okay, some copies of these?"

[Crows-Nest] Penny asks, "s/>/?"

Michel says, "we'll want to make sure there's a copy at every trouble spot, written in vicious ink"

Franklin says, "Hm. I can probably copy the paper, but I can't create binding."

Gaston says, "I think we should keep the two traps separate, to see which one works."

Penny says (to franklin), "plenty of blank books around"

Franklin says, "I could probably age the paper to a tasty mustiness."

[Crows-Nest] Wilfred says (to Penny), "also, "by Rybred Celssius"."

Penny says, "xerox time"

Michel says (to Gaston), "I figured it'd be best to combine our chances"

Raul says, "Here's a blank book you can use," and hands over an ex-copy of The Purloined Letter.

GM says, "the monks eventually come by with the ink"

Gaston asks (of monks), "Is it going to stop steaming after I write something with it?"

GM says, ""er, is it supposed to, sir?""

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "the standard of writing would be about right"

Michel asks, "Oo, if there's any left over can I keep some for thesis marking?"

Gaston says (to monks), "I am not entirely sure."

Gaston says, "As long as it does not eat through the paper, I daresay it will suffice."

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "nah, penny's moving away from writing about scotland"

GM says, "right then"

Gaston says, "I'll use some of the ink to print up some sheets of paper with signs which you might find pinned up in a library."

GM asks, "so people are taking boring book and drugged books to where Franklin thinks the creature will be?"

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "heehee"

Gaston says, "And place those innocuously in one or two of the hotspots."

Raul gathers up the books and starts distributing.

Gaston says (to GM), "Yeah, we'll try various tactics."

Michel lies in wait a couple of corridors away from a hotspot.

Gaston says (to GM), "Varying it a little to avoid raising the creature's suspicions."

Wilfred goes to check up on Darren and bring the guy his dinner

[nobilis] Penny idles, but feel free to steer my flying vacant-minded-body to help hunt the beast

GM says (to Raul), "hrm -- you can't help but notice that these sections have books on things like sorcery, alchemy, and demonology"

[nobilis] Raul exclaims, "just like in the romance novels!"

GM says, ""I thought you'd never come back!" Darren says. "What are you guys going to do to me, anyway?""

Gaston says (to Wilfred), "<Could Darren use some help reflecting on his past mistakes, do you think?>"

Raul says, "<Huh. This is odd. I didn't notice when I was checking the path, but it appears that all these sections are on sorcery, demonology, and alchemy.>"

Wilfred says (to Darren), "We'll figure that out once we've dealt with the Vicious Unmentionable Horror that's stalking the corridors outside."

Gaston says, "<*Now* there's a pattern?>"

GM says, ""Oh. Ah. I'll just stay in here a while longer, I guess.""

Gaston says, "<Perhaps the creature was merely gathering strength before, and now is read to start its real task.>"

Franklin says, "<Hmm. Unsurprising, except that it hasn't been exhibiting a specialized appetite before now.>"

Michel says, "<Uh-oh. This is just a guess, but is it just possible Rafe's trying to stop us researching what he's up to?>"

Gaston says, "<Very possibly.>"

Franklin says, "<Yes.>"

Raul says, "<Why don't we do a quick book swap in these sections? Pull in more copies of Vogue.>"

Gaston says, "<What do we know of Rafe's whereabouts, by the way? Simply that he summoned the beast and vanished?>"

[nobilis] Alexandra says, "I think I now burn my last two RMP for a lesser preservation of the books in those areas. except the trapped ones, of course"

Michel says, "<Okay, someone look up that ritual in reference to demons, and find out how big a demon you could get with only one small rabbit>"

Wilfred asks, "<Hmmmm ... I have an idea ... supposing I bring Darren over and he looks to see which of the volumes he might have seen lying around at Rafe's?"

[nobilis] Wilfred asks, "Um, didn't I do something like what Michel asked? Do I know?"

Michel says, "<he doesn't strike me as someone who'd remember anything for longer than, say, five minutes after a lecture>"

Raul says, "<Hey, I like the idea. And if he happens to get in the way of the beastie, zzzzzap!>"

Alexandra says, "<are we even sure this *is* Rafe's beastie?>"

Gaston says (to Wilfred), "<Interesting idea, but it seems a long shot. And we need to leave the area quiet or the beast will likely not show up.>"

[nobilis] Wilfred says, "Oh right, need to know what words were said."

Michel says (to Alexandra), "<I'd say it's a seperate one, covering for the main beastie>"

Wilfred says, "<Okay, I'll get a mirror out. Gaston, could you reflect me an image of the books?>"

Gaston says, "Hang on."

[nobilis] Michel says, "well, by 'big' I meant in terms of power"

Gaston says, "I could disguise myself as a book."

[nobilis] Michel says, "guessing size isn't hugely relevant to how hardassed a demon is"

Franklin says, "Ohh."

[nobilis] GM says, "for that it's more a question of what words were used, yeah"

Wilfred asks (of Darren), "So ... did Rafe talk much about summoning beasties?"

[nobilis] Michel says, "maybe if we got Penny down there"

Gaston assumes the shape of one of the grimmer-looking grimoires in the hotspot section.

[nobilis] Gaston says, "If possible, I'll also project a picture of the surrounding shelves into Wilfred's mirror."

GM says, "(ok, so are you guys preserving books? and/or are you swapping the magical books out for other books?)"

Gaston says, "I'm swapping myself for a book."

[nobilis] Penny says (to michel), "good call"

Michel asks (of Penny), "You've been able to reel through the last words said in a place before, no?"

[nobilis] Franklin asks, "what's this mirror thing?"

Penny says (to michel), "hmm, gaston can do that by echos, I think"

GM says (to Wilfred), ""Ah .. summoning creatures? Well, of course he spoke of the magical demonic enforcers he would call upon to defend us from the avengers of the light""

Penny says, "I probably can, too"

[nobilis] Alexandra says, "...GM and I was preserving the books, for 2 RMP"

[nobilis] GM says, "alrighty"

Michel says, "perhaps you should pay a quick visit to Rafe's; me and Kori bickering in there would probably screw up the echoes for gaston"

[nobilis] Raul says (to Penny), "Yeah, but all Gaston will hear is bickering."

[nobilis] Gaston says, "Not sure. I assume Wilfred wants our guest to look in it for books he recognises."

Franklin says, "We are adding spiked books and preserving existing ones, so that their absence doesn't warn the beastie off."

[nobilis] Penny says, "I'll go try to divine the words, then"

Raul says (to GM), "and I'll move what I can in the time remaining, for whatever that's worth."

[nobilis] Alexandra says, "(except for thebooby- trapped books)"

Franklin says, "And Gaston counts as a spiked book, but he can only plant himself in one of the possible locations."

Wilfred gets a mirror from a nearby bathroom (required by the building code) and sets it up.

GM says (to Wilfred), ""I think there may have been something in the history of the cult of eternal darkness about it""

Franklin says (to Raul), "We want to be a little careful about shuffling out the bait, I think."

Michel passes the time picking random books off the bookshelves and pouring scorn upon their literary style

GM says (to Wilfred), ""He let me flip through it sometimes""

Wilfred says, "<History of the Cult of Eternal Darkness. Anyone got a copy?>"

Raul says (to Franklin), "Mmm, okay."

Michel says, "<Oh, I'm never without one>"

GM says, "ok, so in terms of guarding the various spots, who's going where? Franklin's located three possible spots"

Gaston asks, "Anything to differentiate them?"

Raul says (to GM), "I'll take the one that's in the middle of my path, so I can reach either of the other two quickly."

Raul says (to GM), "assuming the path isn't triangular"

GM says, "actually, they are roughly at the points of a triangle"

Gaston says, "I'll lurk alone at another, looking prominent and tasty."

[Crows-Nest] Gaston says, "As it were."

Raul says (to GM), "then the one closest to the other two"

Franklin says, "I guess we could call them A, B and C."

Michel says, "I'll go in the middle, then, and get ready to sprint to the nearest"

Wilfred is still in the office with Darren.

GM says (to Gaston), "well, Franklin has given them likeliness levels -- let's say A is the most likely, then B, then C. but this is all rough"

Alexandra heads for A

Alexandra says, "(and perches atop a bookshelf)"

Gaston says, "<If people are setting up an ambush, put it at A.>"

Penny says, "I've gone to try and divine the words used for the ritual wilfred was researching"

Gaston says, "<I will cover one of the lesser spots, in case the creature gets suspicious.>"

Franklin stations himself somewhat near C.

Gaston is at B, then.

Wilfred asks (of Darren), "Do you remember any of the summoning rituals, by the way?"

Alexandra is this time armed with a stun gun.

Raul says, "I guess I'll guard at C, then, stun gun at the ready, me on the ceiling and faux-invisible"

GM says, "Wilfred is in the office; Penny is off to Rafe's house; Alexandra is at A, Gaston and Michel are at B, Franklin and Raul are at C"

[nobilis] Penny says, "mm, away from chancel. I hope you guys don't need me"

Gaston says, "<Only one person at the most likely spot?>"

[nobilis] Franklin says, "we do, of course"

[nobilis] Franklin says, "but we'll see what happens"

GM says, "you are there for what seems like a long time, but then waiting for somebody is always like that"

[interludes] GM has added Penny to the channel.

[nobilis] Wilfred asks, "Um. Maybe I should move over to A...?"

[nobilis] Franklin says, "too late to move"

Michel chainsmokes.

[nobilis] Gaston says, "Silly to have everyone waiting."

[interludes] GM says, "the house is still dark and quiet when you get there (going around back and in through that door, since that's how they went in last time)"

[nobilis] Raul says, "this is where we need the Power of Bamfing"

Alexandra says, "<Hey, I do have some lizard-ass-kicking abilities.>"

[interludes] Penny sneaks in as quietly as possible, just in case

Michel says, "<Okay, are the danger spots still the same or have they changed?>"

GM says, "but eventually your patience is rewarded, as Alexandra notices a faint scraping noise"

Alexandra readies the stun gun

[interludes] GM exclaims (at Penny), "eeeagh! They didn't mention the house was full of enormous spider webs!"

Michel starts loping in that direction

Alexandra says, "<might be something here ... will yell if so>"

GM says, "a book suddenly falls off the shelf, onto the floor"

Gaston waits at B, since he currently lacks limbs.

Penny says, "<eek, you guys could have warned me about spider webs at rafe's>"

Alexandra aims in that direction, but holds fire for the moment

Michel says, "<I hope you're showing respect to those spiders>"

[interludes] Penny says, "I'll try and wade my way through them"

[interludes] GM says, "you bat them out of the way and head for the study"

Franklin says (to Raul), "<Hm, you might want to head over there.>"

Michel says, "<be glad you haven't seen any rats yet>"

GM says, "another book, higher up, falls too --"

Alexandra says, "<ok, time to sneakily haul over here>"

GM says, "hey, wait a second -- there are a gap or two more on the shelves than there were before"

Raul says (to Alex), "<Do you think it's there? --okay, coming as fast and silent as possible.>"

Alexandra starts shooting

GM says, "and as you watch, a book falls *inwards*"

Alexandra says, "<um, this is looking weird ...."

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "heeheehee"

Michel breaks from a lope into a fast jog

GM says, "(ie, into the shelf)"

Alexandra says, "<our beastie might now be a vortex beastie>"

[nobilis] Wilfred asks, "It's on the *other* side of the shelf?"

GM says, "Michel and Raul run over"

[nobilis] Michel says, "between the shelves"

GM says, "and the shelf topples"

GM says, "books fall"

GM says, "(but, miraculously, none are hurt)"

Gaston says, "<Hmm. I am still here waiting to be eaten.>"

Alexandra flies over to the area

Alexandra says, "(and has stopped shooting)"

Gaston says, "<Which may prove to be more useful, though I admit to a certain tinge of fear.>"

GM says, "the creature is slipping between the paths"

Michel turns on the high-tech tracking thingamiwhatsits on the launcher

Raul chases after, trying to get a clear shot at it.

[Crows-Nest] Alexandra asks, "can't Gaston *ever* get his thoughts away from sex?"

[nobilis] Wilfred asks, "ooo, cutting the red tape, is he?"

GM says (to Raul), "annoyingly, the path keeps slipping away as you run -- you have to actually concentrate to keep on it"

[Crows-Nest] Franklin says, "eagh"

[Crows-Nest] Gaston says (to Alexandra), "Hee hee."

[interludes] GM says, "where you find it as mentioned, only webbier"

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "ha"

[interludes] Penny says, "hmm"

[interludes] GM says, "the circle is hard to make out on the floor with all the spider webs"

Michel says, "<Did it eat any of the bait?>"

Franklin decides to make his way towards B.

Raul says, "<Dammit, something's strange with the path. Can't tell if it's bane work or our boojum.>"

GM says (to Michel), "Alexandra thinks so, but it's hard to tell (especially now that the shelf's fallen)"

Gaston says, "<I wonder if the thing only becomes visible after eating.>"

Michel sprints after Raul, not very effectively

GM says, "the ground bumps a bit more, and then -- whoah"

[Crows-Nest] Franklin says, "uh oh"

Alexandra files overhead, trying to keep track of the thing

GM says (to Raul (and Alexandra)), "you come out into an open area in the middle of the library"

[Crows-Nest] Raul says, "THis is like when I would play Infocom games and my TRS-80 disk light would go on"

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "SINKHOLE TIME"

[Crows-Nest] Gaston says, "Hee hee."

[Crows-Nest] Franklin says, "yay"

GM says, "a dozen shelves have been pushed outwards and back to clear some space"

[nobilis] Alexandra says, "flies, even. filing overhead would likely be more of a Wilfred thing"

Wilfred gets ready to do super-fast research ... there *must* be a binding ritual somewhere ... if he only knew what was summoned.

GM says, "and a bunch of volumes of various description are scattered in a pile in the center"

[nobilis] Wilfred says, "hee"

Penny says (to wilfred), "<gimme a second>"

[interludes] GM says, "you get a sensation of clicking, or tapping or something, and then a man speaking"

[interludes] GM says, "first in reverse, and then normally"

Alexandra says, "Well, shit."

[interludes] Penny asks, "and what does he say?"

Gaston says, "<Are they empty?>"

Alexandra peers at the pile to see if it contains a beastie

[interludes] GM says, "he's chanting some kind of -- "come to me from beyond, I give the offering, drink your fill and then serve my will""

Penny says (to wilfred), "<okay, there's tapping or clicking>"

Penny says (to wilfred), "<then a chant in reverse>"

GM says, "the pile shifts, slightly, and a book slides down the top and falls to the ground"

GM says, "(it opens as it lands, and all the pages are blank)"

Alexandra shoots the pile a few times

Penny says (to wilfred), "<then the same chant forwards>"

[interludes] GM says, "and then more tapping"

[interludes] GM says, "or clicking"

[nobilis] Alexandra says, "(with the stun gun)"

Franklin hears shots being fired.

Raul grabs a blank book and shreds the paper, then throws the confetti up, watching if something disturbs the snow of paper.

Wilfred says (to Penny), "<that's unusual. probably unique.>"

GM says, "there is a sound like ripping paper, and the pile falls apart"

Raul says, "<sorry, Franklin>"

Penny says (to wilfred), "<chant is 'come to me from beyond, I give the offering, drink your fill and then serve my will'>"

Michel realises that sprinting with a missile launcher on your shoulder is a bad idea, and starts to breathe like an octogenarian asthmatic

GM says, "and -- wow, wings spread and claws out"

Penny says (to wilfred), "<then more tapping or clicking>"

GM says, "meanwhile, Michel runs up"

Franklin says (to Gaston), "We might need you to have arms and legs again."

Alexandra keeps shooting, to see if that does anything

Gaston decides to give up being a book.

Gaston says, "Timing."

Michel points the launcher at the creature and holds the trigger down.

Franklin heads for the middle of the library.

[interludes] GM says, "the man is still chanting in the darkness "Come to me, corrupt one; I know your true form and I know your form now""

GM says, "it's got .. scales"

Raul says, "<A...dragon?>"

Wilfred grabs the nearest summoning index.

Gaston collects some of his paints, then goes to join the others.

GM says, "and it's (possibly literally) inky black"

Penny says (to wilfred), "<then 'come to me, corrupt one; I know your true form and I know your form now'>"

[Crows-Nest] Wilfred says, "Yay inky"

[Crows-Nest] Franklin says, "(no relation)"

Michel says, "mon dieu"

[Crows-Nest] Franklin says, "yikes, penny is digging up creepy info"

GM says, "it hisses again and takes a step out of the pile towards Raul"

Raul says, "Oh, shit."

GM says, "it's maybe twenty feet long -- over twice as long as it was last time"

Wilfred says (to Darren), "Okay, be back soon."

Raul says, "Nice book dragon."

Raul says, "<Anyone got Ayn Rand novels? Maybe we can overload its system.>"

Franklin says (to Michel), "Hm, perhaps the emptying-its-lungs idea..."

Penny says (to Raul), "<talk to it in book dragon language!>"

[nobilis] Michel asks, "stun missiles do anything?"

Franklin says, "<>"

[interludes] GM says, ""Resoth-ki-sero, come here! I call you!""

Wilfred is going to find a reference to what this spell summons, and the corresponding binding spell. And is going to try to do so in double-quick time. AMP?

Michel says (to Franklin), "<I doubt it needs to breathe>"

Franklin says, "<Just a thought.>"

[interludes] GM says, "and then you realize the clicking isn't what you recall, it's coming from behind you"

Raul says, "<or a 55-gallon drum of white-out>"

GM says, "the missiles, arriving with dramatic timing, smack into its scales"

Penny says (to wilfred), "<more chant, and possibly a name: 'Resoth-ki-ser, come here! I call you!>"

Gaston checks to see whether the radioactive ink is doing anything useful, like telling us where the beast is.

Wilfred says, "<Resoth-ki-ser? Thank you!>"

Michel says, "<maybe if I did a blank-page on it?>"

Penny says (to wilfred), "<also, ignore the clicking, it's, er, not in the rite>"

Wilfred looks up Resoth-ki-ser

Gaston says, "(In case it goes somewhere else, I mean.)"

[interludes] Penny says, "then I turn around"

GM says, "there is an explosion as they collide and it trembles"

[interludes] GM says, "three spiders -- each maybe the size of a footstool"

Raul says, "<What's the opposite of the written word? WWF Wrestling?>"

GM says, "but then it leans forward and swipes at raul with a claw"

Penny says, "<wow, them's BIG SPIDERS HERE>"

Raul tries to dodge out of the way.

Michel chucks away the now defunct launcher

GM says, "Raul, having aspect-8 boots, skips out of the way"

Franklin leans on a shelf as the explosion rumbles through the floor.

[interludes] Penny says, "...nice spiders, I'm your friend (in spider language, if possible)"

Gaston says, "<What might its weaknesses be? Water, to wash away the ink? Fire?>"

Raul says, "<Where's Guy Montag when I need him?>"

GM says, "and the claw slams into a pile of books and sends them flying instead"

Franklin considers perhaps not walking into plain view of this thing.

[nobilis] Michel says, "okay, I'm treating it as a page that needs to be made blank"

Wilfred says (to Gaston), "<I'm looking it up as fast as I can>"

[nobilis] GM asks, "and, hmm, doing a creation of empty places?"

[nobilis] Michel says, "except, um, that'd be direct, and I doubt I can do that"

[nobilis] Alexandra asks, "could you create and empty space around it, to trap it?"

[nobilis] Michel says, "| deep stages of meditation, catatonia, blank pages, emotions of loneliness, loss or detachment"

GM says (to Wilfred), "it appears the derivation suggests this is a corruption of some kind of animal into a predator; enhanced with magic, it gains wicked intelligence and the ability to teleport"

Franklin continues sneaking closer, despite his better judgment.

[Crows-Nest] Penny asks, "'wicked intelligence'?"

[interludes] GM says, "the spiders circle, apparently trying to flank you"

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "you kids and your jive talk"

Wilfred asks (of GM), "Anything on binding it?"

[nobilis] Michel says, "I could shield you guys like I do with bullets, but it wouldn't do much to trap the thing"

[Crows-Nest] Franklin laughs

[interludes] Penny asks, "they won't talk to me?"

GM says (to Wilfred), "with your previous research you could work out how to summon it, yeah"

Michel says, "<Franklin, some blotting paper, please?>"

Wilfred says, "<Could you possibly void it of magic, or is that too much?>"

[Crows-Nest] Raul says, "Chaz is all excited by that"

[nobilis] Franklin says, "I could create paper around it, but I suspect it would tear through it like, er, paper"

[interludes] GM says, ""click-click", you say. "food -- victim -- eat," they say"

Wilfred asks (of GM), "How about summon it to a spot where it can't get away?"

[interludes] Penny says, "er, okay, I hover, fwiw, and shoot them with my pistol"

[interludes] Penny says, "and try and escape through the door"

Raul leaps and tries to knock the beast over.

[nobilis] Franklin asks, "can I turn its claw nails into tissue paper?"

GM says (to Wilfred), "and then, yeah, you could summon it into a binding circle"

Gaston has probably arrived on the scene by now.

GM says (to Gaston), "yes"

Alexandra decides to see if water is of any use, flies over to a water fountain nearby, pulls a plant from its pot to use that as a vessel, and fills the pot with water

Wilfred says (to GM), "Right! I start drawing a binding circle."

Michel piles on to help Raul.

Gaston says, "Not that I have any ideas, but hey, moral support."

Wilfred says, "<Okay, keep it busy. I'm drawing up a binding circle to summon it into.>"

GM says, "(requires like a 4 aspect to knock it over)"

Alexandra flies back over and tosses the pathetically tiny pot of water at the beast

[interludes] GM says, "it'd be probably aspect 2 to dodge them, aspect 3 to shoot them"

Gaston grabs some spare paper and vicious ink and draws some big words, which he throws at the beast's mouth.

Raul says (to GM), "(even with two of us? If so, I'll burn an AMP)"

GM says, "(well, or two of you using aspect 3)"

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "penny is being so restrained and not calling for help in the midst of your crisis"

Michel burns off an AMP

[interludes] Penny asks, "hmm, if I go at 3 can I do both?"

GM says, "the water trickles down its side, turning murky as it pools onto the floor"

Franklin finally arrives, too.

[interludes] Penny says, "er, to"

[interludes] GM says, "yes"

[interludes] Penny says, "fine, burn two amps"

Gaston says (to Alexandra), "Ooh, that did something."

[Crows-Nest] Raul says, "maybe we could summon you, too"

Franklin says, "Hm, maybe the blotter paper idea was a good one."

[Crows-Nest] Wilfred asks, "Is Penny done with the research at Rafe's, then?"

Alexandra asks (of GM), "any visible damage on or reaction from our guestbeastie?"

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "not _exactly_ done, no"

Alexandra asks (of GM), "or is he just dirty and in need of a shower?"

Gaston says, "Hm, I brought my paint with me, since I thought it might be invisible."

GM says, "meanwhile, Raul and Michel slam into its side, while Gaston throws some poisoned paper into it"

[Crows-Nest] Michel asks, "oh, joy, you got ambushed?"

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "more like 'whoops big spiders coming to eat me'"

Gaston chucks some tins of paint at the thing too.

GM says (to Alexandra), "it's hard to say -- it might have left a mark"

Franklin asks (of Gaston), "Do you have paint thinner?"

Gaston says (to Franklin), "Back in my room I do."

Michel says (to Franklin), "He's got some absinthe tucked away somewhere, which does the job far better"

[interludes] GM says, "you blast one, then leap as the other two jump at you, flying past them and shooting one in the process. you fly into the other room, with one left alive"

[interludes] Penny asks, "can I look for a window?"

GM says, "the thing trembles as Raul and Michel hit it"

Alexandra says, "Vessel, vessel ...."

[interludes] Penny asks, "and get out that way?"

[interludes] GM says, "yes, there is one"

GM says, "it tumbles over, improbably, shaking the ground"

Gaston goes and gets some highly expensive paint stripper.

Michel says, "What the-"

[nobilis] Alexandra asks (of Raul), "if I pull the water fountain from its wall, exposing the water from the pipes, could you direct its path toward the critter?"

GM says, "and it gulps down reflexively on Gaston's shot"

[nobilis] Raul says, "sure"

GM says, "more books fall with the ground's trembling"

[nobilis] Raul says, "though maybe Gaston's paper will do the trick"

[nobilis] Gaston says, "Er, I think we're out of vicious ink."

[nobilis] Gaston says, "I have plenty more paint, though."

GM says, "meanwhile, Gaston is getting paint stripper"

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "s/paint/"

GM says, "and the thing is lashing its tail at Michel and Raul"

Wilfred checks to make sure that the binding circle conforms to binding-circle-protocol.

[Crows-Nest] Franklin says, "argh"

GM says (to Wilfred), "looks good -- go for it"

[Crows-Nest] Gaston says, "That'd probably be more useful at this point."

Alexandra flies back to the fountain, prying it of the wall and trying to free up the water

Raul grabs at its legs, trying to hold it.

Wilfred says, "<Okay, guys, I'm going to summon the beastie. I'm over here near the central park area."

Michel says (to Raul), "I'll distract the tail, you dodge in and take it down"

[nobilis] Alexandra says, "(and if I need AMP to pull off the fountain -- I have Aspect 1-- consider it spent"

Wilfred begins the summoning ritual, as per the book.

Raul exclaims (at Michel), "I thought distracting the tail was Gaston's department!"

[interludes] Penny asks, "am I out?"

[nobilis] GM says (to Alexandra), "I think you'll need to be aspect 3 to actually rip it out of the wall, yeah"

Michel says, "<Wilfred, are you sure you're summoning this specific one, not just a generic member of the species?>"

[Crows-Nest] Penny says (to raul), "ha"

[interludes] GM says, "you smash through the window and emerge into the night"

Gaston says (to Michel), "<We'll know shortly.>"

Michel says, "<Two of these we do not need.>"

GM says, "and Wilfred chants"

GM says, "magic crackles"

Alexandra says, "<what are you summoning it into?>"

[interludes] Penny says, "then I'll head for a library nearby"

Wilfred says, "<even if it's a second ... it'll be bound to my will>"

GM says, "luckily Wilfred has a blood pudding from lunch he can use"

Gaston returns with paint and anti-paint.

Alexandra finds the fountain annoyingly stubborn and fights with it a bit to get it off

Gaston says, "I also told the monks to make more of that ink."

GM says, "the thing is lashing around, wreaking havoc on the shelves"

Wilfred says, "Yay blood pudding. I was going to open me own vein, but hey."

Franklin tries to preserve books from damage.

Michel does a preservation of emptiness in a zone around the shelves to protect them

GM says, "and, before his eyes, the circle begins to glow, and something -- from nowhere -- leaps into it"

[Crows-Nest] (from Penny) Bert says, "my *books*!"

Gaston asks, "Is our beast still wreaking havoc, or did it vanish?"

GM says, "Franklin does a preservation miracle, which seems to help -- at least, they're falling but apparently not ripping"

Wilfred . o O ( stay, beastie, stay. good beastie. )

Franklin says, "Whew."

GM says, "and in the circle is a thing that looks like a goat, except a *carnivorous* goat"

GM says, "with big claws on its hind legs and fangs"

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "wow"

[Crows-Nest] Raul says, "You can tell by the ham sandwich in its mouth"

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "inky's imagination is a fearful thing"

Gaston says, "If the lizard-thing is still here, I'll throw paint stripper at the bastard."

Raul directs the path of the water onto the dragon only.

[nobilis] GM says (to Raul), "that's a create miracle, I guess"

[Crows-Nest] Michel says (to Penny), "it is SUCH a good thing we didn't let your other PC see that"

Alexandra has disconnected.

Alexandra goes home.

GM says, "Gaston hurls his can of paint stripper onto the dragon"

Franklin protects books from water and thinner damage.

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "oh but yes"

GM says, "slipping black to dark grey to grey to white and then melting like sugar"

Wilfred says, "<I'm guessing therefore that our beastie is somehow rabbit.>"

Alexandra arrives, looking for booty.

Michel wipes ink off his face.

Gaston, having paper and paint handy, can't resist sketching the scene.

Franklin asks, "Can Michel empty this puddle of inky water so that the books get a chance to dry out?"

Alexandra flops down for a second, then drags herself over to help with book sorting

Gaston puts his pictures aside and finds a container to collect some of the dragon ink.

Michel says, "All my cigarettes are soaked. I don't suppose anyone..."

GM says, "Joyce shakes its head defiantly"

Gaston does a quick ink analysis, putting a few drops on a dampened sheet of paper so that the different inks spread out at different rates.

[Crows-Nest] Michel exclaims, "oh, I know, let's summon another demon to do our will just when we've dealt with the first one! Nothing could ever possibly go wrong with that plan!"

Franklin does what he can to clean up and refresh the books in the area.

[nobilis] Gaston says, "Man, I am turning into Sherlock Holmes here with the amateur chemistry and whatnot."

Raul says (to Franklin), "On the wall at Rafe's was a diamond. Rafe got on the creature it summoned -- Joyce, I suppose -- and rode it through the wall and somewhere else."

Raul says (to Franklin), "Thanks."

GM says, "Joyce nods, slowly"

[Crows-Nest] Penny says (to gaston), "where's your french accent and lack of pop-culture knowledge _now_>"

Raul wipes his nose. The handkerchief turns black with inky.

Wilfred says (to Franklin), "he'll stay good as long as he believes there's a Vicious Unmentionable Horror stalking the corridors."

[nobilis] Alexandra asks, "Hmm. Can I do a currency divination to find out if there's anything the hellgoat wants, anything we can swap for information?"

GM says (to Michel,Raul), "you guys don't really have a close enough fix -- you know it's a high area, quite possibly mountainous, cold, stone"

Penny slopes off for a quick shower to wash the remaining spiderwebs off

[nobilis] GM says, "hmm"

[nobilis] GM says, "that seems reasonable enough"

Franklin asks, "What exactly happened to Penny while she was away?"

GM says, "Alexandra concentrates, and -- well, what it'd most like is for the summoning to end, since this is the demonic equivalent of having to stand around in your underpants in the middle of a new york street in summer -- but beyond that, something small and furry that it could eat"

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "inky just wants small creatures dead today"

GM says, "Resoth turns to face the diamond and then drops its hind legs and sits down slightly"

Raul says, "Well."

[Crows-Nest] Penny says, "oh, resoth is so going to bite your arms off if you try it"

Franklin says, "I don't know. Give him the rat and hop on, if you're going to do it."

Raul asks (of Penny), "Did you hear Rafe say anything after the summoning?"

Penny says (to Raul), "sorry, I got sidetracked by the giant spiders trying to eat me at about that point"

Gaston says, "You could attach the rat to a stick and suspend it in front of his face."

Franklin asks, "Just how big were these spiders?"

Penny says, "'about the size of a footstool'"

Michel says, "okay, wilfred hops on, and if resoth tries to sic him, I shoot resoth with this demon-splatting shotgun."

Gaston asks, "Could they have been demon-spiders, using a similar rite?"

Franklin shudders.

Michel says, "A plan without flaws."

Raul says, "except how Wilfred gets back."

Franklin says (to Wilfred and Gaston), "I think he can hear you both."

Raul sighs and takes the rat. "Hopefully the drying ink will leave me not so tasty."

Franklin says, "Although I suppose we could re-summon the thing."

[Crows-Nest] Penny says (to franklin), "oh, like *that'll* convince him"

Wilfred asks (of Resoth), "Would you bring us back if we went?"

Michel asks (of Franklin), "and summoning takes the riders back too, huh?"

GM says, "this is not a big goat, but if you're willing to squeeze, you could probably fit all three on"

Wilfred says, "...and my copy of Funeral Rites for Nobles is also in my office safe, under my will."

GM says, "and Wilfred swings his other leg onto the goat, and Resoth *leaps*"

[interludes] GM says, "Resoth gives you one baleful glare and then vanishes into the darkness after it. There is one more faint squeak, and then silence."

[interludes] Michel sniffs the air.

[interludes] Raul starts hunting around for a way back to the chancel.

GM says, "and this is a touch early, but I think we will end it here"

Gaston asks, "Is there any research we could usefully be doing while they're going? What was that diamond all about?"

Gaston says, "Aha."

Franklin putters around, cleaning up books around the library, collecting together unsalvagably damaged ones.

Raul holds up his hand and jumps up and down for the GM's attention.

Alexandra says, "our points refreshed at the end of last time, tho, right? So we've only spent what was spent tonight"

Franklin says, "last time I didn't, because we picked up right where we left off"

Raul says (to Alexandra), "I burned some points helping the clown-chancel people."

[interludes] Michel says, "somehow I don't think my handicaps are going to crop up here"

Franklin says, "except you weren't here last week, so maybe you mean two times ago"

Alexandra asks (of Raul), "did you extract a carnie or two for us in return?"

Michel says, "please god no"

Raul exclaims, "I got this!"

[nobilis] GM exclaims, "yay!"

Franklin says, "I really should read the transcripts and see how many points I've used, because I'm not keeping track"

Gaston says (to Raul), "Stop squeezing that goat's -- uh, just stop it."

Gaston says, "I think I've only ever spent like one point."

Penny says, "I've burnt a few points today"

Franklin is called home.

GM says, "ok then"

Penny says, "a couple aspect, a couple domain, a couple realm"

Gaston says, "Okay, night all."

Michel fills the null-field.

Gaston has disconnected.

Gaston goes home.

GM has disconnected.
