GM says, "I'll just be a moment making sure my notes are straightened out feel free to start planning and conniving and what have you. You were last seen not far from the village, in afternoon..." Kestrel says, "Hmm, right." Kestrel says, "We have to find out where they keep the King Spear, then how to get it." Kestrel says, "The chimur." Erich says, "yes" Kestrel says, "We could either try to steal it, or figure out how to make one of us king." Kestrel says, "Heck, maybe stealing it makes you king in the first place." Lydia asks, "Do you still want to wait for dark?" Erich says, "that would make our task easier" Kestrel says, "Certainly stealing it would be easier at night." Kestrel says, "But we have to figure out where it is, first." Dana says, "yes, I think it's best if we scout around to find out where it is, to start with" Dana says, "My guess is, somewhere in those buildings in the northwest" Dana says, "er, if I have that right. On the promentory." Kestrel nods. Kestrel says, "Perhaps a scouting party should take the light rod, set to a dim red." Erich says, "not a bad idea" GM says, "You hear something in the woods to the northwest." GM says, "People, it sounds like, not trying to be quiet." Kestrel, about to say something, stops before he does. GM says, "Er, northeast." [oneshot] Lydia says, "I thought there was mountain ... ah, okay" Kestrel gestures to Erich and Dana again. [oneshot] GM says, "Mountain's southeast, village is northwest, woods are north and east, and lagoon is southwest." [oneshot] GM says, "From your current position." Erich sidles off to one side in an attempt to flank whomever is coming their way. Dana moves to a concealed position [oneshot] Lydia says, "okay, now I'm more confused." GM says, "They seem to be moving past your position, towards the village." Erich points in the other party's general direction, then moves quietly towards them to follow. [oneshot] Lydia says, "hm, now I get it. We went a little further around than I thought." Dana follows along with Erich [interludes] GM has added Erich to the channel. Kestrel peers through the trees to see if he can see anything. [interludes] GM asks, "Following them brings your towards the village itself... still following?" [interludes] Erich says, "Yes, but cautiously. I'd like to see who's in the other party before they reach the village." [interludes] GM says, "You see a group of men with spears." [interludes] GM says, "Two of them are carrying a dead animal, vaguely boar-like, lashed to a spaar." [interludes] GM says, "Spear, even." GM says (to Kestrel), "Only if you follow Dana and Erich to get close enough." Kestrel sees a lot of trees. [interludes] GM says, "They are talking among themselves, and don't ehar your approach." [interludes] Erich listens. [interludes] Dana listens as well [interludes] GM says, "They're speaking too quickly for you to catch anything." [interludes] Dana shrugs at Erich Lydia, when it seems the group must be far enough away, says, "Well, I hope they have fun." Kestrel grins. Lydia digs through her pack and pulls out a book. [interludes] Erich points towards the village, lifting his eyebrows in a silent question. [interludes] GM says, "And they continue on into the village." [interludes] GM says, "You hear what sound by their tone like greetings and so forth." Lydia turns to a marked spot in the middle and reads it, concentrating and mouthing some of the words. Kestrel sits down with Sam and tries to get a good description of how to get through the twisted passages, both from the lake area and from the high path. [interludes] Erich asks, "Any good cover to use in approaching the village?" [oneshot] GM asks (of Kestrel), "Any navigational or mapping type skills?" Dollen says (to Kestrel), "Well, from the first room, that I call 'the first room', there are four passages roughly near the floor..." [oneshot] Kestrel says, "Well, Hunter, with track and trail signs." [interludes] GM says, "Sure" [interludes] Erich says, "I'm going to move closer, then." [interludes] Dana says, "me too" [interludes] Dana says, "aggh lag" [oneshot] GM says, "Mmm. I'm going to call for a straight wits, for both you, Wits +1 for Sam, TN 20 for both of you." [7thsea] Dollen rolls 4k3: 6 8 2 10+7 | 31 [7thsea] Kestrel rolls 3k3: 10+7 1 3 | 21 [oneshot] Kestrel exclaims, "Woo!" Dollen says, "...which I call the sixth room, even though it's the second one you'll see, but since it's the sixth one I saw..." Kestrel nods, surprised that he's actually following this. [Crows-Nest] Lydia asks, "insuring against npc-loss, huh?" [interludes] GM says, "You approach unnoticed -- the denizens of the vilalge don't seem to be paying attention to their borders right now." [Crows-Nest] Kestrel says, "Redundancy can't hurt ;-)" [interludes] Dana asks, "what are they up to?" [interludes] GM says, "The beast has been taken to an area near one fo the firepits. A couple of the hunters and a several other people are working to dress it. The other hunters aren't visible, probably having gone inside the huts to the shade." Dollen asks, "...the space to the right of it, which looks like a grey stone, rather like the other grey stone, but pointier, so you can tell it's the passage just under that passage, but to the elft. And that'll bring you to the room with the door. See?" [interludes] Erich asks, "Looks like a big celebration's about to take place?" [oneshot] Lydia afks for a bit. [interludes] GM says, "Nah, the participants don't look unusually excited -- more like routine dinner preparations." [oneshot] Lydia says, "oops, not really." Dollen says, "Of course, getting back out, everything looks different." Kestrel says (to Dollen), "Yeah, I think so. So, that only leaves the third passage from the first room, but that probably just goes to the fourth room again, like the passage with the bit of lichen." [interludes] Dana asks, "can we sneak around towards the bigger buildings iwthout being noticed?" Dollen says (to Kestrel), "Exactly! It comes out right over the underhang." Kestrel exclaims, "Oh, good!" [interludes] GM says, "It'd be more difficult, since there's not as much cover, but you can try." [interludes] Erich says, "Let's give it a try." [interludes] Dana says, "okeedokee" [interludes] Dana asks, "roll stealth?" [interludes] GM says, "All right. There's not really any cover along the south side of the village, since that's where the lagoon is, but you can find some trees and bushes around the north side." [interludes] GM says, "Stealth, yeah." [7thsea] Dana rolls 5k3: 5 4 4 4 4 | 13 [interludes] Dana says, "urk" [interludes] Dana says, "drama die" [7thsea] Dana rolls 1 die: 3 [7thsea] Erich rolls 5k3: 5 6 9 1 8 | 23 [interludes] Dana says, "hrm" [interludes] Dana says, "I'm assuming the TN was more than 15 there" [oneshot] Kestrel says, "Wuh-oh. There goes another drama die." [oneshot] Kestrel says, "But yay it not being a 1 ;-)" [interludes] GM says, "You come around the north side of the village, passing by the place where you were kept during your short visit in the process... Dana trips as you walk by one of the two huts next to that one, and you ehar motion inside..." [interludes] Erich holds his breath. [interludes] Dana poises to run if necessary [interludes] GM says, "Someone comes out of the hut, passing not more than five feet from where you stand -- he looks around, but not in your direction..." [interludes] Dana's fingers wrap silently around the hilt of her knife [interludes] Man asks, "Rinta, li ro?" [interludes] Dana is silent [interludes] Man asks, "Rinta? Dero li?" [interludes] (from Dana) Crickets, presumably, chirp. [interludes] GM says, "A woman across the village to the south answers. 'Loriki -- kin ro! Klet muka, dit musle!'" [interludes] GM says, "He heads off, towards her and away from you." [interludes] Dana begins again edging towards the large buildings [interludes] Erich breathes again, and continues on. [interludes] GM says, "If you're moving again, I'll need another stealth roll." [7thsea] Erich rolls 5k3: 10+1 5 2 2 4 | 20 [7thsea] Dana rolls 5k3: 3 3 7 10+9 8 | 34 [interludes] Dana says, "that's more like it." [interludes] Erich asks, "Wha? Who said that?!?" [interludes] Dana avoids stepping on any branches this time [oneshot] Kestrel says (to Dana), "That's more like it ;-)" [interludes] GM blinks at Kestrel. [Crows-Nest] Dana says (to Erich), "sorry, didn't want to use #crows for that" [Crows-Nest] Dana says, "but maybe should've" [interludes] Dana tiptoes towards the bigger buildings, keeping in shadow [Crows-Nest] Erich says, "Actually, was referencing your smashingly good roll." [Crows-Nest] Dana says, "aha" [interludes] GM says, "You approach the high part. The largest building is the closest to the vilalge; it's the one you were ushered into when you first arrived, and where you met Mordigan." [Crows-Nest] Dana says, "all is now clear" [interludes] Dana asks, "does there seem to be anyone there?" [interludes] Erich points at the large building. [interludes] GM says, "A bit to the north of that is a smaller hut, much like the others you've seen elsewhere in the village. Further back, near the cliff edge, is a third one -- larger than the huts, but smaller than the first buidling." [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "There doesn't appear to be. There's a alrge, wide doorway on the side nearest the rest of the village; you don't see anyone through it." [interludes] Dana looks at Erich and nods [interludes] Erich glides quietly towards the large doorway, watching for villagers. [interludes] GM says, "You hear the crackling of a fire off towards the other end of the vilalge, where the animal was being prepared, and see smoke rising." GM says, "You notice smoke rising above the village." [interludes] GM says (to Erich), "Stealth." [7thsea] Erich rolls 5k3: 10+1 10+3 9 8 1 | 33 [interludes] Dana stands guard outside, prepared to come in if it seems useful Kestrel asks (of GM), "Lots, or like from a normal fire?" [interludes] GM says (to Erich), "The single room is empty of people; at the far end is a large chair; beside it is a normal-sized door leading out the back." Kestrel sniffs the air. GM says (to Kestrel), "Normal." [interludes] Erich asks, "Anything around the chair, or any other furnishings?" GM says (to Kestrel), "You smell wood burning." Lydia says, "Hm. They must be cooking dinner." [interludes] GM says (to Erich), "The chair itself is somewhat elaborate, but you notice nothing else in the room." [interludes] Erich returns to Dana. Kestrel says, "And I don't think they're cannibals, so Erich and Lydia are probably still fine." [interludes] Dana nods towards the smaller hut, raises eyebrows [interludes] GM says, "Someone comes out of the small hut, moving hurriedly towards the rearmost building." Lydia says, "and Dana" [interludes] Dana makes face [interludes] Erich watches the someone. Kestrel says, "Whoops, right." Kestrel says, "Though you look fine, too." [interludes] Erich waits for a moment, to see if anyone else comes out of the small hut. [interludes] Dana says, "does there seem to be anyone else in the-- timing" [interludes] GM says, "The man ducks into a side door in the other building; no one else appears." [interludes] Dana moves towards the small building [interludes] Erich keeps watch, ready to help Dana out if necessary. [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "OK. You're now next to the small building. There is no particular cover this far up." [interludes] Dana resorts to moving quickly and quietly and hoping for the best [interludes] GM asks (of Dana), "Where are you going exactly?" [interludes] Dana says, "inside the small building" [interludes] Dana says, "assuming I don't hear anyone inside" [interludes] GM says, "You find no one within. It's a one-room affair, much like the one you were held in previously. There are windows, letting in sunlight." [interludes] Dana asks, "anything worth searching? furniture or such?" [interludes] GM says, "A thatched bed is near one wall. There's also a wooden box, like a crude chest, and a small hide pouch nearby." [interludes] Dana has a look in the wooden box [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "Inside you see clothing, such as the natives here wear." [interludes] Dana asks, "man clothing or woman clothing?" [interludes] Dana asks, "or is there no differnece here?" [interludes] GM says, "You're not familiar enough with the local custom to tell if there's a difference." [interludes] Dana looks through the garments to see if there's anything interesting tucked among them-- and if there's anything in her size [interludes] GM says, "You don't find anything hidden under the clothes. Most of it is of the one-size-fits-all variety." [interludes] Dana quickly shimmies into one of the garments, takes a spare in case Erich wants it [interludes] Dana inspects the hide pouch [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "Wits + Fashion if you want to make sure you wear it right." [interludes] Dana says, "fashion? surely you jest..." [interludes] Dana asks, "do I take a loss in Wits for having no Skill?" [interludes] GM says, "And don't do the equivalent of, say, putting your legs through the arms of a shirt or tying trousers around your neck like a cape..." [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "In this case, nah." [7thsea] Dana rolls 3k3: 6 8 7 | 21 [interludes] Dana says, "I don't wanna look dashing, just less noticeable" [interludes] GM says, "OK, you're dressed... but you notice that most of these garments might be less than completely modest if worn by a woman, at least if worn properly..." [interludes] Dana asks, "hrm. have I seen anyone else wearing these things?" [interludes] GM says, "Yes. Some women wear something much like you're wearing, much like you're wearing it. Others wear different things, which cover them more completely." [interludes] Dana says, "sigh" [interludes] Dana says, "ok, well, I'll, um, try to keep it as closed as possible" [interludes] GM says, "OK." [interludes] Dana hates feminine attire [interludes] Dana asks, "anything in the pouch?" [interludes] Erich says, "if you know what she means" [interludes] Dana says (to Erich), "shaddup" [interludes] GM says, "Rocks. One has a sharp edge, like a knife. One looks like flint. Others may have other purposes." [interludes] Dana says, "nice. I'll take that, too." [interludes] Dana looks at/under the bed, if it has an under [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "Nothing." [interludes] Dana says, "'kay" [interludes] Dana sneaks back out to Erich again [interludes] GM says (to Erich), "A woman emerges from the small hut and moves toward you." [interludes] Erich draws back into cover, watching the woman. [interludes] Dana looks around, seeking Erich [interludes] Dana . o O ( grrrr ) [interludes] GM says (to Erich), "As she approaches, you notice she is Dana." [interludes] Erich's eyebrows raise when he sees her attire, and raise even higher when he notes how she's wearing it. [interludes] Dana offers the spare garment to Erich. She also gives him the sort of glare that suggests any Remarks will be punished. [interludes] GM says, "And she's looking ravishing in a daring and revealing animal skin dress." [interludes] Dana . o O ( eeagh ) [interludes] GM says, "Er, late." [interludes] Erich holds up the garment to see if it will fit. [interludes] GM says (to Erich), "Yes, but due to your stature, you might be inventing the miniskirt." [interludes] Dana smirks slightly as she recognizes Erich's predicament [interludes] Erich asks, "Actually, have there been any villagers my size?" [interludes] GM says (to Erich), "Not really. But then, you're used to that back home, too." [oneshot] Kestrel says, "(afk)" [interludes] Erich sighs (*very* softly) and makes arrangements to wear the garment. GM asks, "Anything the rest of you want to be doing during their interlude?" [interludes] GM asks, "Should the record show if Dana turns her back?" [interludes] Dana is staring at the sky in the other direction. [interludes] GM says, "OK. So you're both dressed in fashionable one-strap numbers. Grey-brown leatherish material." [interludes] Erich points to the third building, the one against the cliff. [interludes] Dana's face contorts horribly with the effort of holding in the smirky remarks she would make if only they weren't sneaking in dread silence through the dangerous enemy camp. [interludes] Dana begins moving quietly towards the third building. GM says, "You can smell meat cooking somewhere not too far away." [interludes] GM says, "You can too." [interludes] Erich taps Dana on the shoulder and points towards the larger hut, from which smoke is rising. [interludes] GM asks (of Dana), "Approaching which side -- the north one, closest to the small hut, or the east one, closest to the big building?" [interludes] Dana nods to Erich. [interludes] Dana says, "north, I think" [interludes] GM says, "(Smoking building being the third one)" [interludes] Dana asks, "oh, wait, really?" [interludes] GM says, "Sorry, should ahve clarified." [interludes] Dana walks towards it slowly [interludes] GM says, "(Which is also the one the man entered earlier)" [interludes] Dana gestures to Erich that she will look in [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "That side has a doorway without door, which the man earlier entered. There are also a couple windows." [interludes] Dana approaches the windows [interludes] Dana says, "(ducking low enough not to be seen through them, preferably)" [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "You see the man inside, standing at a table. He's holding a large stone knife, which he's using to cut a piece of meat off of a larger haunch." [interludes] GM says, "There's also a fire inside that room, at the west end; there's a hole in the ceiling above it to let the smoke out." [interludes] Dana asks, "anyone else in there?" [interludes] GM says, "His back is to you as he faces the table. There's also a door leading into another room, with a sort of curtain of woven leaves over it." [interludes] GM says, "You don't see anyone else in that room." [interludes] Dana asks, "do any of the other windows look into the other room?" [interludes] Dana says, "(as far as I can tell)" [interludes] Erich keeps looking around nervously, occasionally tugging at the hem of his fashionable clothing. [Crows-Nest] Dana says, "heehee" [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "The ones on this side of the building both look into that room." [interludes] Dana sneaks cautiously around the building [interludes] GM asks (of Dana), "Clockwise or counter-clockwise?" [interludes] Dana says, "um... whichever way will keep the building between me and most of the villagers for longest" [interludes] GM asks, "OK, going towards the back side of the building, then?" [interludes] Dana says, "right" [interludes] Dana says, "I assume you have a map of all this because otherwise it is impressive you can keep it all in your head." [interludes] GM says, "The back side of the building is only a few yards from the cliff edge. There's also a door in this side, and a window looking into a different room..." [interludes] GM says, "Heh. Yes, I do. *This* I did plan for." [interludes] Dana looks through the other window [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "This room is darker, as there's no fire inside. It contains a bed, fashioned more like what you'd see back home, although still out of crude materials." [interludes] GM says, "IThe window is right over a small table, which is itself right next to the bed." [interludes] Dana asks, "can I crawl in through the window?" [interludes] GM says, "Yes, but there is a door, if you'd like." [interludes] Dana says, "oh" [interludes] Dana . o O ( my indiana-jones-like prowess, WASTED ) [interludes] Dana strolls through the door instead [interludes] GM says, "Also, you see a door leading from there into another room, also covered with a leaf curtain type thing." [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "You can hear the man preparing food doing so through the wall." [interludes] Erich waits as patiently as possible. [interludes] Dana has a look at the desk [interludes] Dana says, "er, table, whatever" [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "The table has two surfaces: the top, and a lower one. On the lower one is a stack of what could pass for paper, maybe." [interludes] Dana has a look at the paper [interludes] GM says, "Or rather parchment, if made by someone who'd never made aprchment before, and whose choice of materials was somewhat limited." [interludes] Dana asks, "anything that's been written on?" [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "Writing, in a scrawled and blotty hand." [interludes] Dana asks, "on all of them?" [interludes] Dana . o O ( CURSE THIS ILLITERACY ) [interludes] Dana . o O ( IN MY NEXT LIFE I CAN READ ) [interludes] GM says, "Most of them. A couple dozen sheets, the bottom handful being bare." Lydia tires of the novel and puts it away. [interludes] Dana takes all the pages and tucks them into her bundle o stuff [interludes] Dana looks under the bed [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "Someone's been good at keeping tidy. No dust." Lydia returns to wandering around the foothills. [interludes] Dana asks, "any other furniture?" [interludes] GM says, "Not in here, no." [interludes] Dana asks, "does the leaf-door lead back to cooking-man?" [interludes] GM says, "No." [interludes] Dana asks, "or is there another room between me and Kitchen Stadium?" [interludes] Dana says, "ah, ok" [interludes] Dana lifts the leaf curtain slightly [interludes] Erich tries not to fidget. [interludes] GM says, "It's a lit room. It's hard to see much from that perspective." [interludes] Dana goes ahead and goes through the door [interludes] GM says, "Also, it's difficult to lift the curtain without it rustling much." [interludes] Dana says, "(er, oops, maybe)" [interludes] GM asks, "Yes you go through, or maybe?" [interludes] Dana says, "if I can do so without making too much noise" [interludes] GM says, "Stealth for that." [7thsea] Dana rolls 5k3: 7 7 4 6 2 | 20 [interludes] GM says, "You slip into the room, and find yourself standing in front of Bryce Mordigan. He's looking down at the talbe he's sitting at and hasn't noticed you quite yet." [interludes] Dana says, "oh er oops" [interludes] Dana says, "(not aloud)" [interludes] Dana asks, "um, can I back out again very quickly and silently?" [interludes] GM says, "You can attempt to, if you do it immediately. A raise required for silence hurried, though." [7thsea] Dana rolls 5k3: 8 10+4 7 2 1 | 29 [interludes] GM says, "(Immediately == you don't see much of the room.)" [interludes] Dana says, "grr" [interludes] Dana says, "but-- right, ok" [interludes] Dana heads out the door and back to Erich [interludes] GM says, "You successfully duck back intot he bedroom with minimal noise." [interludes] GM says, "And make it back to Erich, even." [interludes] Erich is clearly glad to see Dana, and not just because of the dress thing. [interludes] Dana whispers to Erich, "Mordigan is in there. He didn't notice me. Here is some of his stuff. I didn't see the chimur but he probably has it. Should I go kill him now?" [interludes] Dana is clearly working on a little too much adrenaline. [interludes] Erich says, "we clearly need to go have a talk with him." GM says (to Lydia), "You find a cute little squirrel." [interludes] Dana shows Erich the parchments. "can you read?" GM says, "It chitters at you from a nearby tree." [interludes] Erich looks at the parchments. GM says, "The sun has begun to set." [interludes] Dana looks as though she is about to fly apart from impatience [interludes] Erich says, "I recognize Mordigan's name on the first page. but that is about it" [interludes] Erich asks, "why don't we have a little talk with him?" [interludes] Dana asks, "hm. perhaps we should try to see it back to the others, though...?" [interludes] Dana says, "I'd like to deal with Mordigan, yes" [interludes] Erich says, "mmm. you are the voice of near-reason." Kestrel mutters, "That's the problem with spies today. They don't call, they don't write, here we are worried sick and no news to go on..." [interludes] Erich says, "we'd have to leave him unconsious when done, or possibly dead." Lydia returns to camp. [interludes] Erich says, "and the others might like to have a say in that." [interludes] Dana says, "and there's a man in the next room" [interludes] Dana says, "twould not be as easy as it might first appear, I'm sure of that" Lydia says, "They must have found something interesting." [interludes] Dana says, "whereas this may tell us what the chimur is, and then we will have an advantage" [interludes] Erich says, "agreed. back we go, then." [interludes] Dana heads back towards the others [interludes] Dana tries not to think about their probable smirks when they see her new wardrobe [interludes] GM asks, "The long way around, via the scant cover available, I presume?" [interludes] Dana says, "right" GM says, "You hear something in the trees to the north." GM says, "(Anyone awake enough to react?)" Lydia listens carefully. GM says, "They're approaching your location." Kestrel quietly nocks an arrow. GM says, "They emerge from the trees -- two people, dressed in native clothing." [interludes] Dana begins to hang back a little and walks in the most modest way she can manage. Kestrel exclaims (at people), "Stop!" GM says, "Although the clothes don't fit quite so well as they could -- hers not being designed for the modern femminine modesty, and his not designed for his great height..." Kestrel says, "Oh, wait." Lydia is surprised not to see Erich and Lydia, then surprised again to see them. Erich says, "ah, the kind of welcome I was hoping for." Lydia says, "[Dana. Wow, I did it too.]" GM says, "(And they seem acutely aware of this fact)" [oneshot] Kestrel exclaims (at Lydia), "Hee!" [interludes] GM has removed Erich from the channel. [interludes] GM has removed Dana from the channel. Dana nonchalantly stands mostly behind a large bush. Lydia says, "Nice outfits." Dollen says, "Indeed." Kestrel asks, "What, uh, happened to your clothes? Do you need new sets?" Dana says (to Lydia), "you're welcome to borrow mine, I'm sure it'd, er, suit you better than it does me." Erich says, "I did not have a large selection of clothing to choose from, if we were to go disguised at all." Dana says (to Kestrel), "we were trying to be inconspicuous" Erich says, "we managed to find Mordigan, along with some of his papers." Kestrel asks, "Right, but did you have to ditch your original set?" Dana asks, "Who here can read best?" Erich asks, "anyone read Avalonian?" Dana says (to Kestrel), "they're right here. (waves bundle)" Kestrel says, "I can." Kestrel says (to Dana), "Oh, good." Dana hands Kestrel a pile of parchments. Erich says (to Kestrel), "picked up my old clothes on our way back as well." Dana says, "We stole these from Mordigan's hut" Kestrel looks over the pile of parchment. Erich says, "along with my pistols, which don't well fit with this garment." Dana says, "maybe they'll tell us what he's been up to." Kestrel says (to Dana), "No chimur, I take it." Dollen says, "Certainly." Erich says, "no chimur" Dana says (to Kestrel), "I ran smack into Mordigan himself and only just got out without him raising the alarm" Dana says, "so I know where the chimur *might* be, but we thought it wise to see what we could learn from this first" Erich says, "we were considering talking to Mordigan by ourselves, but thought these papers might be useful and that you had been waiting long enough to be worried." Kestrel says (to Dana), "Wow." Dana says (to Kestrel), "he didn't see me" Lydia says, "Amazing." Kestrel looks at the papers. "They appear to be his diary." GM says, "It begins to grow dark." Kestrel says, "Though he has gone and called them 'memoirs'." Dana says (to Kestrel), "(figures)" Erich asks, "his struggle?" Lydia asks, "What's wrong with memoirs?" [Crows-Nest] Dana says, "(heh)" Kestrel says (to Lydia), "Oh, just slightly pretentious." Dana says (to Lydia), "I suppose you don't see what's wrong with these clothes, either." Lydia says, "Well, there's plenty wrong with those clothes." Dana wraps one of her own shirts around herself so as to feel slightly less exposed to general view. Lydia says, "But it depends on the circumstances, I guess." Kestrel asks (of Sam,John), "I assume you two can read Avalonian, too? Shall we split this pile between the three of us?" Erich sits down -- *carefully*. Lydia says, "Oh, I can read those as well. Just not very well." Dana continues pacing around Banther says (to Kestrel), "Yes, a good idea -- although I fear we might need more light than this, before long." Dana says, "There's always the light stick" Kestrel says (to Dana), "Good idea." Kestrel says, "Let's wait until we can't see, though." Kestrel settles down with the beginning of the manuscript, gives the later bits to John and Sam. [Crows-Nest] Dana says, "(wearing down the batteries, are we?)" Kestrel says, "Don't want to attract undue attention to our position." Lydia takes some pages from the end and works her way through them. Dollen says, "Thanks. Huh. Nasty handwriting. I supposed it's hard to find a decent pen around here." Dana says (to Kestrel), "Erich's trying not to attract undue attention to his position and look how little good it's doing *him*." Erich says (to Dana), "I am not the only one who is more on display than usual, mind." Kestrel giggles Dana wraps her shirt even more tightly around herself. Dana mutters something about sacrifice for the common good going horrendously unappreciated. [Crows-Nest] Lydia says, "That doesn't do anything to cover your ankles though-- goodness." Lydia says, "You're welcome to change." [Crows-Nest] Dana says, "I feel like that chyk from lost world" Kestrel says, "Unless you're going back tonight." [Crows-Nest] Erich exclaims, "Ha!" GM says, "You start to work your way through the parchments. By the time the light goes, you've gathered that he arrived here by the means of an artifact which would likely resemble the one that sent you." Dana looks loftily Lydia-wards and remarks that she expects to have further need of the disguise. Kestrel turns on the light stick to medium-bright red. GM says, "As well as the fact that he has come to a position of power here, and apparently relies to some degree on a native man by the name of 'Malie'." Kestrel looks for specific references to the chimur. GM says, "Time passes..." Dana eats something to sustain her strength. GM says, "The whole story, as it is pieced together by the group:" GM says, "Upon visting Castille -- for purposes unspecified -- Mordigan found himself in the market to seek new and itneresting artifacts. One such was a ring, another a bowl enscribed with strange markings, and with a black crystal set in the middle." GM says, "The ring was said to allow one to swim under water without air; the bowl, to create dark demons from beyond. Upon the demand of a demonstration, the Fhideli peddler took out a flute, and begain to play..." Kestrel perks up at 'Fhideli'. [oneshot] Lydia asks, "what exactly is 'Fhideli'?" [oneshot] Kestrel says, "Ussuran Gypsies." [oneshot] Kestrel says, "My people, as it happens." GM says, "A black sphere arose from the crystal, and began to dance and sway, like a snake to a Crescent charmer. Naturally, he grabbed the ring and tried to grab the bowl, but the sphere flashed toward him, and..." GM says, "...a moment later was falling into the sea. The waves tossed him, and he slipped udner, but thought to put on the ring. And the story was true: he didn't drown. He dove down, to the calmer waters below." GM says, "There, in a cave under the water, he found the strangest object -- like a stone wheel on a wooden axle, but with the strangest symbol marked on the face of the wheel." GM says, "He surfaced, and climbed the rock face with his treasure, coming up onto a peak overlooking a vilalge." GM says, "The people there looked on him, and saw the thing he'd found, and saw the symbol on it, and bowed down before him." GM says, "He was made their ruler, and dubbed himself 'Mordigan Rex'. He taught one of the natives a smattering of English, so to better serve him, and so learned the story of an ancient time." GM says, "A time when 'Others' had lived hear, people of great and terrible powers, and whose stronghold was hidden somewhere on this island." [Crows-Nest] Erich says, "The time when the Others lived hear was a site to see." [Crows-Nest] Lydia says, "boo" [Crows-Nest] markm says, "Ugh. I'm not even there and 'ugh'." GM says, "The object Mordigan had discovered, the 'chimur', belonged to them. It was a symbol of their power... concluding that these must have been the ancient Syrneth, he has sought that stronghold since, but so far ahs not discovered it." GM says, "These papers do not tell of the most recent events since your arrival, though." Dana says (to Others), "he was working in a lit room when I stumbled across him... perhaps he is even now recording the next portion." GM says, "The moon has risen, and the village has fallen mostly quiet." Kestrel walks the plank to adventure. Arr! Kestrel arrives, looking for booty. [oneshot] Kestrel says, "CWSA." Dana asks, "Do you suppose we should attempt to go where he is and search his house for the chimur?" [oneshot] Kestrel asks, "OK, log restarted. Got up to halfway through the story--recap?" [oneshot] Kestrel says, "He had found the wheel with the runes." [oneshot] Lydia asks, "should I pastebomb it?" [oneshot] GM will let one of you recap. [oneshot] Kestrel says, "Or whisper--the log gap can be pasted in later." Lydia says, "okay..." Lydia says, "[oops]" [oneshot] Kestrel says, "OK, got it via mail. I'll catch up..." [oneshot] Lydia says, "er? uh, alright then." Banther says, "Very interesting." Lydia says, "Hm. So it doesn't do anything alone." Erich says, "I'm also interested in his ring." Dana says, "but it might well be the key to activate what we found" Dana says (to Erich), "nice collector's item, to be sure" Lydia asks, "Any reason we don't march in at dawn and declare freedom to the villagers?" You say (to Lydia), "Not without the chimur, I'm sure." Banther says, "Mmm. Primitve superstitions can be very strong." PerrySimm ponders 'stone wheel on an axle'. Dana says, "I don't think they believe themselves to be oppressed." [oneshot] Lydia says (to Kestrel), "wrong window" Dana says, "It seems best we have the chimur first." [oneshot] PerrySimm says, "Oops ;-)" Kestrel ponders 'stone wheel on an axle'. Erich asks, "how large is it described as being in his diary?" Lydia says, "Probably easier that way, I guess. Since we don't have an obvious way to er, "prove" we're some of the Others too." Kestrel says, "If the axle is long enough, it might fit in that shaft." Kestrel says, "And, hey, that could be what Haran meant when he pointed to the end of his spear and made a circle." Dollen says (to Erich), "The bit I had, at least, didn't say." Dana says (to Lydia), "unless you think they'd be impressed with the light stick and other such innovations" Lydia says, "Maybe. It's a real shame we don't know the symbol these mention." [oneshot] Kestrel asks, "He didn't draw the symbol in the memoir, did he?" [oneshot] GM says, "No." Banther says (to Lydia), "It is possible that the symbol may have described its purpose the symbols for 'chi mur', perhaps." Lydia says, "Might be a common Syrneth symbol or something like, but, hm." Kestrel says, "Oh, hey, that ring he has *is* part of a matched set with ours. Our protects vs. fire, his vs. water." Erich asks, "from the tone of his memoirs, is he happy here?" Bather says (to Erich), "I felt a sense of urgency, in the last section." Kestrel does a 'cold read' on the memoirs. Bather says (to Erich), "As though he were growing impatient in his search." Dana says (to Erich), "probably doesn't have enough natives to torture" [oneshot] Kestrel says, "'Banther'" [oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "I don't think that'd work, really..." [oneshot] GM says (to kestrel), "Hush." [oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Well, straight wits, then?" [oneshot] Kestrel says, "(heh)" [oneshot] GM asks, "OK. What exactly are you trying for?" [oneshot] Kestrel says, "From the tone of the writing, I want to know if he's happy here ;-)" [oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "OK, go ahead and roll." [oneshot] Kestrel says, "Also, if he's an interfering, annoying king, or if he just lets them give him stuff and practices a laissez-faire rulership." [oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Straight?" [oneshot] GM says, "Yeah." [7thsea] Kestrel rolls 3k3: 9 10+4 7 | 30 [oneshot] Erich says, "eyoikes" [oneshot] (from Kestrel) GM . o O (Darn, now I have to think of something.) [oneshot] GM says, "His happiness rises and falls -- higher when he heard about the Others, lower when the search parties he sends out come back empty..." [oneshot] GM says, "Also, he seems to be a non-interfering sort, for the most part, involving himself with the common people as little as possible." [oneshot] Kestrel nods. [oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Hey, do we know how to use our own ring? And if not, are there any clues about how to invoke the one Mordigan has in the memoir?" [oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "You use your ring just by wearing it." [oneshot] GM says, "His memoirs just describe him putting it on and hoping it'd work." Kestrel says, "Well, hmm." Kestrel says, "If we want to impress the natives, we could wear our ring and stand in the fire, I guess." Kestrel says, "But for now, I think just stealing the chimur sounds like the best bet." Kestrel says, "At least we know what it looks like." Erich says, "true" Dana says, "You know, I've never had that much interest in jewelry before now..." Erich says, "and Mordigan is likely to keep it near him at all times" Kestrel says, "We should probably go immediately, before he realizes his papers are gone and he raises the alarm." Lydia asks, "what, all of us?" Kestrel says, "And when I say 'we', I of course mean our scantily-dressed friends, here." [oneshot] Kestrel says, "(timing)" Erich says (to Dana), "just think what wonders a nice pin would do for you now." Dana says (to Erich), "Good point." Dana asks, "It seems we are nominated to leap back into action. Shall we?" Kestrel says, "Hey, I think I have a pin, which might help with the modesty a bit." Dana says (to others), "if you hear a lot of shouting and stuff..." Kestrel says (to Dana), "You're welcome to it, though it might look suspicious." Dana says (to Kestrel), "I think he meant more in terms of poking the appendages of the disrespectful." Kestrel chuckles. Dana says, "But if we are to set off again I suppose we should do so" Erich prepares himself for another trip into the village. Dana says, "it will be a bit more problematic this time, I imagine, as Mordigan if he is asleep will be in his bedroom" Kestrel gives them the light rod, in case they need it. Dana says, "perhaps we can sneak up on him and smother him before he can speak" Kestrel says, "You should take the ring, too, just in case." Erich pockets -- er, holds on to the light rod. Lydia says, "Right, here's the ring." Dana takes the ring and slips it over one finger. The middle one. [Crows-Nest] Kestrel says, "Is that a light rod in your pocket, or..." [Crows-Nest] Dana says, "hey, I'm sure the GM has something equally humiliating in store for you, smartie" [Crows-Nest] Lydia says, "not if we keep sitting around out of harm's way." [Crows-Nest] Erich says, "we shall be sure to lead them back to all of you if we get in trouble" [Crows-Nest] Dana says, "u r l4m3" [Crows-Nest] Kestrel says, "Have *I* been making fun? No. I even offered to help. ;-)" Dana heads off again towards the village. [interludes] GM has added Dana to the channel. Erich does as well. [interludes] GM has added Erich to the channel. [interludes] GM asks, "Same way as before, or are you a bit more daring after lights-out?" [Crows-Nest] Dana says, "slightly more daring, probably" [Crows-Nest] Dana says, "er" [interludes] Dana says, "here" [interludes] Dana says, "sorry" [interludes] Dana says, "(hard not to be daring in this dress)" [interludes] Erich says, "she's just happy that no one will see her" Lydia says, "Huh, I'm sleepy." [interludes] Erich says, "though I do have the light with which I could, ah, flash her." [interludes] GM says, "Hee. Shortest route, then? I'll call a stealth roll, of course, just to be on the safe side..." [7thsea] Erich rolls 5k3: 8 4 4 8 7 | 23 [7thsea] Dana rolls 5k3: 3 4 1 7 8 | 19 [interludes] GM says, "You make it through without arousing attention." [interludes] GM says, "The same three buildings haven't moved." [interludes] Erich creeps towards Mordigan's building. [interludes] GM says, "There's a door on side currently nearest you; it's one Dana didn't check out, and would likely lead into the room where she had her clsoe encounter." [interludes] GM says, "Also, a couple windows." Lydia says, "They're probably going to be quite a while, so I think I'll just take a nap." [interludes] Dana approaches the nearest of these windows and peeks through [interludes] Erich peeks in the windows. Banther says, "I second the motion." Dollen asks, "Anyone bring a deck of cards?" Lydia settles down and tries to get comfortable. [interludes] GM says, "You see a room with a table and chair, set up like a desk -- the one Dana was standing in front of, for a brief moment." [interludes] GM says, "On the other side of the room is a box like the one in the small hut, and there are two grass doors leading from this room into the others." [interludes] Dana nods importantly at that box [interludes] Dana waggles her eyebrows [interludes] Erich nods. [interludes] Dana makes tiptoeing gestures with her fingers [interludes] Dana just sneaks into the damn room already [interludes] Erich follows quietly. [interludes] GM says, "OK, you're in the room. You can hear muffled snoring from behind one door." [interludes] Dana stifles the urge to laugh. [interludes] Dana gently pries at the box lid. [interludes] GM asks, "Are you using the light, or just going by moonlight through the windows?" [interludes] Dana asks, "we can see enough by moonlight to see the box?" [interludes] Dana says, "because if so I am for keeping the light off" [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "Yes, but its contents will be in shadow." [interludes] GM says, "Inside you see piles of something." [interludes] Dana gingerly touches the anonymous piles [interludes] Erich says, "I'll turn the light on to low and red, and hold it inside the box." [interludes] Dana . o O ( if it is more of the 'memoirs' I am going to be very annoyed. ) [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "They feel like the material your new clothes are made of." [interludes] Dana says, "great, a whole fall lineup" [interludes] Dana asks, "can I see anything else, now that we've got the light in there?" [interludes] Erich asks, "Any of the clothes look bigger than what I'm wearing?" [interludes] Erich says, "Just asking, mind you." [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "yeah. These clothes, unlike yours, have stitch. Very crude and poorly done stitching." [interludes] Dana says, "aw, the poor man was trying to dress himself" [interludes] GM says (to Erich), "You'd need to take them out and examine them more closely." [interludes] Dana lifts out a garment [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "It's shaped roughly like a shirt." [interludes] Erich rummages quietly. [interludes] GM says, "It would not fit Erich, though." [interludes] Dana wears the shirt herself, then [interludes] GM says (to Erich), "You found an attempt at a pair of trousers, as well. Also too small, alas." [interludes] Erich . o O ( all the small people in the world ) [interludes] Dana asks, "nothing else in the box?" [interludes] GM says, "Also, you feel something else at the bottom, something harder." [interludes] Dana says, "aha" [interludes] Dana investigates the harder item [interludes] GM says, "It's a pouch, made of decent leather, and feels like it contains coins." [interludes] GM says, "(The coins being hard, not the leather :) )" [interludes] Erich lifts out the pouch, careful to keep a good grip on it. [interludes] Dana says, "hmm" [interludes] Dana says, "I have now fulfilled part of my desire to rob Mordigan blind, but this gets us no closer to real victory" [interludes] Dana asks, "anything on the table?" [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "yes." Kestrel takes first watch with Dollen, teaching him an old Fhideli game he learned as a kid. [interludes] Dana says (to GM), ">X TABLE" Kestrel says, "Here, you be the stones, and I'll be the pieces of bark." [interludes] GM says, "At one end of the table is a small round something, next to a longer something, and a pile of parchments." Dollen asks, "How does one... 'be' brk?" [interludes] Dana looks at the small round thing Dollen asks, "Should I climb the tree?" [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "A clay pot with an open top. Something dark inside." [interludes] Dana looks IN the clay pot [interludes] Dana . o O ( drat, ink ) Kestrel says, "Well, for one thing, *I'm* the bark, and you're the stones. It just means you'll play the game by moving the stones, and I'll play it by moving the bark." [interludes] GM says, "Er, you see liquid dark." [interludes] Erich looks around the rest of the room while Dana is occupied with the table. Lydia laughs. [interludes] Dana looks wistfully at the ink as though it reminds her of something, then shakes her head clear [interludes] GM says (to Erich), "Aside from the table and box, there are a chair and three doors (one leading outside)" [interludes] Dana takes the parchments [interludes] Erich asks, "What room is the snoring coming from?" Dollen says, "Oh! Alright." Dollen moves some stones around in a little circle. [interludes] GM says (to Erich), "The back one." [interludes] Erich asks, "curtains across both inside-leading doors?" Dollen says, "Perhaps you should explain the rules, though. Else I'll be at a bit of a disadvantage." [interludes] GM says, "Yes." Kestrel says, "Uh, right." [interludes] Erich glances in the non-snoring room. Kestrel says, "We each take turns either putting down a piece, or moving a piece that's already there." [interludes] GM says (to Erich), "You see a haunch of meat hanging from the ceiling, and a long table... several stone knives hung on the wall, and a firepit at the far end of the room." Kestrel says, "Each of us has four pieces." [interludes] GM says, "Also, a door leading out (in the direction of the small hut), and some windows." Kestrel says, "I'd sketch a board into the dirt, but it's hard to see--just imagine a grid, and we'll be fine." [interludes] Erich returns and gestures towards the other room. He whispers quietly and directly into Dana's ear, "he may have it on him" Dollen nods. "How large a grid?" Kestrel says, "The object is to get your pieces either into a straight line, or into a square." Kestrel says, "6 by 6." [interludes] Dana nods [interludes] Dana makes a gesture of putting something over someone's face [interludes] Erich grins, teeth white in the moonlight. Kestrel says, "Usually, the first four moves are us placing the pieces, and after that we move them around." [interludes] Dana gets the bundle of small trousers into smothering position and tiptoes into the snoring room Dollen asks, "Mmm. Moving them how?" [interludes] Erich moves in as well, stepping to one side. [interludes] GM says, "Stealth." [7thsea] Erich rolls 5k3: 6 2 10+2 2 4 | 22 [7thsea] Dana rolls 5k3: 3 9 6 8 8 | 25 Kestrel says, "One square at a time, to any open adjacent square." Kestrel says, "Either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally." [7thsea] GM rolls 4k4: 1 9 8 1 | 19 [interludes] GM says, "You find the bedroom. Mordigan himself is sleeping on the bed." [interludes] Erich looks around for the chimur. Kestrel says, "It's called 'Teeko'." GM asks, "Only moving your own pieces, I gather?" [Crows-Nest] Kestrel says, "IRL, actually." Kestrel says (to Dollen), "Right." [interludes] Dana creeps over to where Mordigan is [interludes] GM says (to Erich), "You see a bed, a bedside table, the door you came through, a door leading out, and a window. And a Mordigan." [interludes] Dana gestures at Erich to come over and back her up [Crows-Nest] Lydia asks, "sounds interesting. Is that any square at all, or does it need to be along lines?" [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "He's sleeping peacefully, a large hide - -actually, two stitched together -- pulled over him." [Crows-Nest] Kestrel says, "It's an old board game my family had at the cabin in the black hills. We used to play it all the time when we were up there. My dad, having grown up with it, was nigh-impossible to beat." [interludes] Erich does so. Dollen asks, "Taking turns?" Kestrel nods. "Exactly." [interludes] Dana puts the cloth quickly over Mordigan's face, attempting to prevent him from saying anything or struggling too much until he can be gagged and restrained [Crows-Nest] Kestrel says, "IIRC, it had to be a 'tight' square." [interludes] Erich grabs Mordigan's arms and sits on his legs simultaneously. [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "Brawn." [interludes] GM says (to Erich), "You, too." Kestrel arranges the pieces on the board. Kestrel says, "So, you can win if your pieces are like this.." Kestrel puts them in a line. Kestrel says, "Or a diagonal line..." Kestrel moves them again. [7thsea] Erich rolls 4k4: 7 5 1 7 | 20 Kestrel says, "Or a small square." [7thsea] Dana rolls 3k3: 8 3 1 | 12 [interludes] Dana says, "ack" Kestrel puts four together. [7thsea] GM rolls 2k2: 9 8 | 17 [7thsea] GM rolls 2k2: 5 6 | 11 [interludes] Dana says, "and I think I am out of drama dice" [interludes] Erich says, "Hopefully the 17 goes with my 20. :)" Kestrel says, "Although I suppose you could play that any square was legal. Might give you an advantage, since I've played this game a lot." Kestrel grins. [interludes] GM says, "He wrenches his face away from Dana's grip, although Erich holds him otherwise motionless, pretty much." [interludes] Dana goes for her knife and holds it to Mordigan's throat, instead [interludes] Mordigan exclaims, "What is... who... *you*!" [interludes] Erich leans into Mordigan's gut, pushing out air. [interludes] Dana hisses, "shut up or die." Dollen asks, "Who begins?" [interludes] Dana's eyes glitter dangerously in the moonlight. Kestrel says, "We used to do that by playing odd-man." [interludes] Mordigan glares back at Dana. "What do you want?" [interludes] Dana asks, "the chimur. where is it?" Dollen raises an eyebrow questioningly. [Crows-Nest] Lydia says, "this is one of those games where it's easy to prove the player who goes first can win or draw." [interludes] Erich says, "my guess is your head on a pike. but the chimur might satisfy her." [interludes] Dana says, "and when you answer, don't raise your voice above a whisper" [Crows-Nest] Lydia says, "How exactly is another matter entirely." [interludes] Mordigan says, "I knew it. That's why you came." [interludes] Dana says, "or you'll be talking through a hole in your throat and we'll find the damn thing ourselves" Kestrel says, "We determine ahead of time whether we want to be odd or even, then on three, hold up as many fingers as we want. If the total number of fingers is odd, the odd person goes first, likewise for the even." [interludes] Dana says (to Mordigan), "less self-pity, more answers." [interludes] Erich says (to GM), "(hey, do I get bonus from my Grapple skill?)" [interludes] Erich says, "(for future reference)" [interludes] GM says (to Erich), "Now htat you emntion it, sure -- but you already ahve him down for the moment." Kestrel asks, "You want to be even or odd?" [interludes] Mordigan says (to Dana), "If you kill me, you'll never find it." Dollen says, "Even, I guess." [interludes] Dana says, "(what are the rules on intimidation rolls?)" Kestrel says, "OK, ready? On three. One, two..." [Crows-Nest] Kestrel says, "Half this, rounded down:" [7thsea] Kestrel rolls 1 die: 2 Kestrel holds up 1 finger. [interludes] Erich says, "(you do a contested resolve roll)" [interludes] Dana says, "(I have interrogation)" [interludes] GM says, "Contested Resolve. Plus one for Indomitable Will, although that might apply only to the one receiving." [interludes] Dana says, "(ah, ok)" [7thsea] Dana rolls 3k3: 1 3 5 | 9 [interludes] Dana says, "rrr" [interludes] GM says, "You can have Interrogation unkept, yeah." [interludes] Dana says, "oh, ok" [interludes] Dana asks, "so should I reroll that? or roll 1 more die?" [interludes] GM says, "(Sorry, WIll is two unkept, not one)" [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "One more." [7thsea] Dana rolls 1 die: 7 Dollen holds up three. Dollen asks, "Ah. So I go first, then?" [7thsea] GM rolls 5k3: 3 10+4 10+3 3 5 | 32 You exclaim, "Yup!" [interludes] Dana twists the knife at Mordigan's throat. "So now what you have to ask yourself is whether I came here because I wanted the chimur, or because I just-- *poke* HATE *poke* YOU *poke hard enough to draw blood* Kestrel exclaims, "Yup!" [Crows-Nest] Kestrel says, "ILAW" [Crows-Nest] Kestrel says, "I'm not really watching that one! Honest! ;-)" [Crows-Nest] Lydia says, "we've landed on Jupiter. There seem to be muppets." [Crows-Nest] Dana says, "unh hunh" [interludes] Mordigan says (to Dana), "I'm more likely to believe that your Explorers sent their lapdogs off after a lost artifact than that you could track me down yourselves." Dollen says, "Hmm." [interludes] Dana smiles darkly Dollen places a stone in the second column from the left, second row from the top. [interludes] Dana says, "I'm no one's lapdog, you pathetic excuse for humanity." [interludes] Dana says (to Erich), "let's take him away where we can deal with him more... loudly." [interludes] Erich says (to Dana), "I begin to wonder if I could dowse for the chimur with his legbones." [interludes] Dana glances over Mordigan's hands, checking for the ring [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "It's present." [interludes] Dana says (to Erich), "you might want that. Transportation tax." [Crows-Nest] Kestrel says, "Um, we don't actually have to play this out. I'll have a heck of a time trying to keep track of stuff in my head ;-)" [interludes] Erich says, "indeed." [interludes] Erich gives Mordigan's head a solid *thump* to knock him unconscious. [interludes] Dana fashions a gag out of the trousers and ties it around him just in case he chances ot come to [Crows-Nest] GM grins. "OK. Contested Wits. I'll give you a free raise, since he's enver played." [interludes] GM says (to Erich), "Given the fact that you're busy trying to hold him downa t the same time, and haven't drawn weapon, I need a Brawn roll for that." Kestrel places his piece closer to the center. [7thsea] Erich rolls 4k4: 2 9 1 4 | 16 [7thsea] Kestrel rolls 3k3: 4 8 9 | 21 [7thsea] GM rolls 2k2: 8 2 | 10 [interludes] GM says, "He passes out." [7thsea] GM rolls 3k3: 8 9 5 | 22 Dollen asks, "Aha. You said diagonals counted, right?" [interludes] Erich stands and takes some of the leftover trouser material to tie Mordigan's feet together and then his hands together behind his back. He then drapes Mordigan across his shoulders. [interludes] Dana keeps her knife out, and follows [interludes] Dana says, "(first having a look to make sure nothing fell from mordigan onto the bed" [interludes] Erich gets to the door of the hut and looks around to see if anyone is watching. [interludes] Dana says, "I do hope that he's at least wearing nightclothes" GM grins. "Jolly good game. Quite clever." [oneshot] GM says, "(Er, Dollen)" Kestrel grins back. [interludes] Erich says (to Dana), "(softly) check under the bed and skins before we go, just in case." [interludes] Dana says, "or it's going to look as though we are having some sort of orgy in the woods" [interludes] Dana investigates the bed carefully [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "He's wearing dayclothes, even." [interludes] GM says, "Also, no one visible." [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "Nothing more than before." [interludes] Dana says, "ah well" [interludes] Dana says, "back to the others, then, sneak sneak sneak" [interludes] Erich hurries out of the village, as much as he can hurry whilst carrying Mordigan and trying to be quiet. Dollen asks, "Shall we play again?" [7thsea] Dana rolls 5k3: 6 5 6 5 5 | 17 [7thsea] Erich rolls 5k3: 9 10+2 2 9 10+7 | 38 [interludes] Dollen says, "You again make it without waking anyone up..." GM says, "You hear noises." Kestrel stands quickly. Kestrel quietly wakes Lydia. Dollen asks, "What's that?" Lydia says, "hmph? hmm..." GM says, "Several someones step out of the woods; it's too dark to see them clearly though." [interludes] Dana hisses, "It's us." Erich dumps a trussed Mordigan at everyone's feet. "hello again." Kestrel asks, "You brought him with you?" Lydia says, "Oh. Well done." [interludes] GM says, "(You can do that out loud)" Dana says, "He's not very talkative" [interludes] Dana says, "(error, and then it was irrelevant :)" Erich says, "and was chimur-less, as far as we could tell." [interludes] GM has removed Dana from the channel. Dana says, "but it's got to be somewhere" [interludes] GM has removed Erich from the channel. Erich says, "we wanted to be able to talk to him without having to hiss quietly" Dana says, "I'm all for bleeding the information out of him if necessary" Dana says, "he was not very civil" GM says, "Mordigan grunts." Dana says, "we're up one anti-drowning ring for our trouble, however" Kestrel says, "I guess he wouldn't tell you where the chimur was, then." Dana says, "and a bag of coins, though what good that will do us here is open to question" Erich shows off the ring, which he did not put on his middle finger. Dana says (to Kestrel), "called us a bunch of 'lapdogs' of the explorers' society. (Clearly Dana is still fairly pissed about this." Mordigan tries to sit up. "So. Your little band of ruffians, at work again. How nice." Dana asks (of Mordigan), "Hey, you waking up?" Dana says, "the pleasure is mutual, I assure you." Dana looks as though she would like to snip off a couple of fingers just for fun. [interludes] GM says, "Belatedly, I should probably request knot-tying rolls for tying him up..." [7thsea] Dana rolls 4k3: 9 7 7 4 | 23 Kestrel says (to Mordigan), "Well, well, well. So, we meet again. But this time, the advantage is ours." Kestrel says, "Sorry, I've just always wanted to say that." Mordigan asks (of Kestrel), "Who were you, again?" Kestrel says (to Mordigan), "Oh, nobody." Kestrel says, "I'm the Explainer." Kestrel says, "And I'm explaining to you that you should tell us where this chimur is." Mordigan asks, "And if I don't?" Dana says (to Mordigan), "Now. It seems to me that there are a limited number of places where you could have put it, and you can either tell us, or we can kill you and take advantage of your absence to find it." Dana says, "Either outcome is in my opinion a gain." Kestrel says, "Then we'll ask the natives directly and leave you to die of exposure, maybe." Kestrel says, "Or, yeah, what Dana said." Dana says, "Naturally, there's also nothing to stop us removing body parts that you don't need for talking, to start with." Kestrel says, "Besides, it's probably in the lagoon." Mordigan asks (of Dana), "If you are so confident you'll find it, why didn't you kill me already?" Kestrel watches closely to the reaction to that statement. [Crows-Nest] Kestrel says, "(cold read)" [oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Is that wits?" [oneshot] Gm says, "Yes." [7thsea] Kestrel rolls 4k3: 3 9 2 1 | 14 [oneshot] Kestrel says, "Pfft." Dana says (to Mordigan), "would have had to be too quick, back there. I understand you're a man who understands savoring a pleasure." [7thsea] Mordigan rolls 4k4: 9 1 8 9 | 27 [oneshot] GM says, "We'll say you didn't detect anything." [oneshot] Kestrel says, "Heh." [oneshot] Erich says (to GM), "going to try intimidation." Erich says, "what little patience I had is gone." Mordigan says (to Dana), "Indeed. i somehow doubt you have the constitution for it, really. A shame." Erich walks over to Mordigan and bends his left pinky back until it breaks. Lydia says, "Oh, I hate this part." [oneshot] Mordigan says, "Resolve -- a failure means you didn't have the guts to actually do it." Erich asks, "ah. I feel more patient again. care to talk about the chimur?" Dana says (to Lydia), "You're free to take a walk." [7thsea] Erich rolls 3k3: 7 5 1 | 13 [7thsea] Mordigan rolls 5k3: 8 8 4 5 2 | 21 Lydia walks away from the scene into the woods. [oneshot] Dana says, "resolve roll to pin his hand with my knife" [7thsea] Dana rolls 3k3: 5 7 8 | 20 [oneshot] Lydia says, "I like that role." Mordigan only smiles at Erich. [7thsea] Mordigan rolls 5k3: 6 4 1 6 3 | 16 Dana takes her knife and pins Mordigan's right hand to the ground with it. Dana asks, "You were saying about constitutions?" Kestrel winces. Mordigan is taken by surprise by Dana, however -- for a clear moment his composure is clearly broken. Dana says (to Mordigan), "I repeat: give us an answer before the consequences for you become worse." Mordigan says (to Dana), "You are... stronger than I thought." Dana says, "I have nothing to lose." Kestrel asks (of Mordigan), "It's in the lagoon, isn't it?" Dana hands the parchments she got from the table to Kestrel. "These may reveal something, too." [oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Another cold read?" Mordigan says (to Dana), "You could, perhaps, have been a worthy partner. If you hadn't gotten involved with these fools." [oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Since his composure was broken?" [oneshot] GM says, "Mmm. You can try, but it'll need a raise for a second try." [oneshot] Kestrel says, "Might as well." [7thsea] Kestrel rolls 4k3: 3 7 7 1 | 17 Dana says (to Mordigan), "I can't begin to express how touched I am. And *you* are playing for time." [oneshot] Kestrel says, "Oh, well." Mordigan says, "Ah? Well done. My memoirs." Mordigan asks, "You've read them thoroughly, I presume?" [7thsea] Mordigan rolls 4k4: 4 8 10+5 1 | 28 Kestrel reads the most recent set. Dana asks (of Mordigan), "Preservng your dubious accomplishments for posterity?" [oneshot] Mordigan says (to Kestrel), "That's a failure. Sorry." Dana says, "Yes, we've read them." [oneshot] Kestrel says, "At least it was a spectacular one, and not heart-breaking ;-)" [oneshot] Mordigan says, "Also, reading will take time, consider yourself meanwhiled." Mordigan says (to Dana), "Something like that. A story for the grandchildren, perhaps." Dana raises an eyebrow. "Have you children, then?" Kestrel asks (of Mordigan), "Well, tell us this. Would you rather stay here, or go back to civilized society with us, and let the authorities deal with you as they may?" Dana says, "Because if not I think it is likely too late." Mordigan asks (of Dana), "Someone else to hunt down, you hope?" Dana says (to Mordigan), "That would depend." Erich says, "he's very insistent in this whole 'hunting down' motif" Erich says, "I suppose better to imagine yourself the center of everyone else's world as well" Dana says (to Erich), "He has little imagination beyond himself." Dana says (to Erich), "if you want to occupy Lydia, you might give her that ring and see if she can discover anything in the lagoon" Mordigan says, "It is truly amaze how some people repay kindness." [oneshot] Mordigan says, "Amazing." Dana asks (of Mordigan), "and what kindness would that be?" Dana asks (of Mordigan), "your attempt to kill me with a poisoned blade?" Dana asks (of Mordigan), "your leadership of bandits and thieves?" Dana asks (of Mordigan), "your throwing us in jail?" Mordigan says, "I give you our hospitality -- food, a place to sleep. You were our guests." Dana says (to Mordigan), "ahhh." Erich goes to find Lydia and give her the ring. Mordigan says, "How do you treat the guard, set for your own safety? It is pitiful." Mordigan says, "And now, this..." Dana says (to Mordigan), "I have no quarrel with the people you have deluded into obeying you" Dana says (to Mordigan), "only with yourself" Mordigan tries to move to a move comfortable position, but has trouble finding one without jarring his hand. Dana says (to Mordigan), "when you are dead, they will have my complete goodwill" Dana eyes Mordigan's hand with vague signs of amusement Mordigan says (to Dana), "Your grace overwhelms me." Dana sighs Dana asks, "And your jawing bores me. Have you failed to comprehend the gist of this conversation *entirely*?" Dana asks, "Or do you need a reminder to get back to the point?" Mordigan says, "You want the chimur. Yes, yes." He sighs. Lydia is found out of sight, but not entirely out of range of screams. [oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Anything of interest in the papers yet?" Mordigan asks, "And what do you offer me?" Erich says (to Lydia), "here. if you are interested, you might want to go check the lagoon with this ring." Dana asks, "What, your life is not a sufficient offering? Now who is ungrateful?" [oneshot] GM says, "It seems a gang of foolish and uncivilized bandits who had once attacked him in his own home have apepared." Dana says (to Mordigan), "But it may interest you that we have a better idea of where to use the chimur than you seem to" Lydia says (to Erich), "The lagoon? Oh, hm, good idea." Lydia says, "Thanks." [oneshot] GM says, "He offered to make them his guests, but they attacked his guards and ran off into the night." Kestrel says (to Dana), "You might find this bit interesting..." Dana asks (of Kestrel), "oh?" Kestrel reads aloud some choice bits. Dana's eyes narrow. Mordigan asks (of Dana), "Oh?" Lydia looks over the ring, then pockets it and heads around the camp in a wide circle toward the water. Dana asks (of Mordigan), "'Toothless buffoons'? 'pathetic, weak, hairwitted'?" Erich returns to watch Dana and Mordigan sparring. Dana draws her knife free, twisting it in the process, and looks for a new place to apply it Kestrel asks (of Dana), "We should decide what *we* want to do with him, too. If, uh, you don't kill him. Leave him here to be dealt with by the natives? Or take him back, and let him deal with the authorities?" Mordigan says (to Dana), "Ah, yes. Let us see... 'weak', that was the fellow with the poor clothing..." Mordigan says, "Hairwitted, of course, was the young one. With the strange sword." Dana says (to Mordigan), "Aha." Dana says (to Kestrel), "I doubt the natives will deal with him adequately. We'll take him back with us, if he lives. (glancing at Mordigan as she says this)" Erich says, "nice to see your keen eye for detail and finer appreciations of the nuances of social standing haven't deserted you in your primitive years" Mordigan flexes his hand, painfully. The fingers aren't quite so limber as they ought to be. Dana asks (of Mordigan), "So, my friend, we have already established that you will not be continuing your memoirs any time soon with that hand. Do you want to keep the use of the other one?" Kestrel says (to Mordigan), "Well, there you have it. You're going back with us. You'll go back quicker if you tell us where the chimur is, because it'll help." Dana says (to Mordigan), "tick tock tick tock" Mordigan says, "And if I don't, we play pincushion until morning. How delightfully barbaric." Dana tastes the blood on the end of the blade. Mordigan says, "And then, the vilalge guards will come and see all of you. They will take you prisoner and likely kill you, for harming their king." Dana says (to Mordigan), "Oh, I doubt that." Dana says (to Mordigan), "Though if it comforts you to tell yourself so, so be it." Mordigan asks (of Dana), "No? What, then?" [oneshot] Dana says, "intimidation roll" [7thsea] Dana rolls 4k3: 5 5 8 10+8 | 31 [7thsea] Mordigan rolls 5k3: 1 9 2 10+4 5 | 28 [oneshot] Kestrel exclaims, "Woo!" Dana says (to Mordigan), "I wonder how long their loyalty will last when they see us with the chimur and your remains strewn on the trees." Miseri arrives, looking for booty. Dana says, "From what I gather, murdering you painfully would only begin to avenge the things you have done over the years" Dana says, "so your speeches of barbarism are unimpressive" [interludes] Mordigan has added Lydia to the channel. Dana says, "and bespeak only your fear-- since you know what torture looks like." Mordigan says (to Dana), "Perhaps you could do it." Mordigan says, "...perhaps." Dana steps neatly on Mordigan's wounded hand.' [oneshot] Kestrel asks, "What *is* the standard penalty for crimes like Mordigan on Avalon?" [interludes] GM says, "OK, you move away fromt he group, to the shore of the lagoon. (An area visible from the village, except that no one's awake). The moonlight is enough to see by more or less." [interludes] Lydia leaves behind her boots, slips on the ring, and wades into the water. [oneshot] Kestrel says, "Er, 'crimes like Mordigan's' ;-)" Mordigan says, "Fine. I will concede." [oneshot] Dana says, "I'd imagine it's an executable offense" Dana asks (of Mordigan), "Very wise. The chimur?" [oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "It depends very much on the person responsible for passing sentence." Mordigan asks, "I will take you there. Untie my feet?" Kestrel asks (of Erich), "Did Lydia already take off?" Dana keeps her knife to Mordigan, nods at someone else to work on the foot-knots [interludes] GM says, "The water is nice and cool. You get a ways from the shore before you're up to shoulder depth." Kestrel unties the knots. Erich says (to Kestrel), "yes" [interludes] Lydia takes a deep breath (by force of habit) and puts her head under to look around. Mordigan takes to his feet. Kestrel asks (of Mordigan), "*Is* it in the lagoon?" [interludes] GM says, "The water is mostly clear, but the moonlight is filtered under water. This far from shore, you see mostly seaweed, and little else." Mordigan says, "No, of course not. The lagoon is shallow; it'd be washed ashore the next day." Mordigan starts walking toward the village. Kestrel says (to others), "I'll go get Lydia and meet you back here." [interludes] Lydia explores closer to the village's steep cliff. Dana nods, keeps close behind Mordigan with the knife. Kestrel heads out to the lagoon. Erich moves by Dana and murmurs, "He may still yell for help once we reach the village." [interludes] GM says, "By the mountain, of by the promontory? (The latter would take you out into the sea)" Dana says (to Erich), "(not for more than a moment, he won't)" GM says (to Kestrel), "You see her head, a ways out." [interludes] Lydia says, "the promontory, in deeper waters." Dana says, "speaking of which, I don't see why he'll need to talk; pointing should suffice." Kestrel tosses a rock into the water, to get her attention. (just for the splash) [interludes] GM says, "OK. It's a ways to go; the water gets deeper quickly in that direction. The shore gets rocky, and begins to rise." Dana reattaches the gag. [7thsea] Dana rolls 4k3: 1 7 8 5 | 20 [oneshot] Dana says, "(knotwork)" Mordigan looks at Dana with pity, but continues on, towards the promontory. [interludes] GM says (to Lydia), "You hear a splash, before you get too far out." Dana says (to Mordigan), "I know, your heart is swelling with simple, disinterested sorrow at my lack of manners." Dana follows promentorywards [interludes] GM says, "Looking in that direction, you see Kestrel, by the shore." [interludes] Lydia looks around both below then above the surface, and spies Kestrel. Lydia's head goes under for a moment, but then she comes back up and sees Kestrel. GM says, "Mordigan leads you past the other buildings, to the edge of the cliff." Kestrel waves, motions for her to come back in. Lydia makes her way back to the lagoon shore. GM says, "He moves his deliberately hands toward the gag, to remove it." Kestrel notices a pile of clothes on the beach, and moves off a discreet distance away. Dana grasps his wrist firmly. [oneshot] Kestrel asks, "His hands aren't tied?" Dana hisses in Mordigan's ear, "POINT where you want to go" [oneshot] Mordigan says, "Tied, but I assumed not behind his back, since that'd have been difficult to do while he was in bed." Dana says, "unless you've perhaps hidden it in the cliff face? nod if so" Mordigan gestures over the side of the cliff. Dana asks, "do we need to climb to get to it?" Mordigan nods. Dana asks, "is it underwater?" Mordigan nods again. Dana says, "we'll wait for Lydia, then, I think" [oneshot] Erich asks, "How much longer for tonight?" Lydia reaches shore and puts her boots back on. "So, what happened? [oneshot] Kestrel says, "We were going to wait for you back at camp, ofc." Kestrel says (to Lydia), "Dana managed to intimidate him enough that he said he'd take them to the chimur." Kestrel says, "He also said the lagoon was too shallow; it'd wash ashore the next day." Dana says (to Mordigan), "You know, I think we might have been partners, if only you hadn't been a twisted lunatic." [oneshot] Lydia says, "that's not what I thought. But I wasn't there." Mordigan smiles, as best he can, gagged. Lydia says, "I don't trust that Mordigan. Maybe more than two people should be with him." Kestrel says, "Dana and Erich should be enough." Kestrel says, "But we can catch up to them if you like." [oneshot] Dana says, "urk, they're not coming? grr" [oneshot] Dana says, "I thought they said they'd catch up" Lydia says, "They should be, yes. But, I don't know." Kestrel walks back to the camp as they talk. Kestrel says, "Hmm, they were heading towards the village..." Dana asks (of Mordigan), "is this an underwater cave we're looking for, then?" Mordigan nods again. Kestrel says, "Shouldn't be hard to track them, especially with one leading the other." [oneshot] Kestrel says, "tracking:" [7thsea] Kestrel rolls 4k3: 7 4 5 7 | 19 Dana says (to Mordigan), "Right. Makes sense." Dana says, "Even rather sensible, really." Dana asks (of Mordigan), "tell me, did you make those sad little clothes back at your house?" Erich says, "as organized as you have been, I'm surprised you have not made it back to Avalon yet." [oneshot] GM says, "It's moonlight, but they weren't trying to be secretive. You can follow their tracks well enough." Dana says (to Erich), "(you do have the light, right? I can only imagine it will be hard to see in an underwater cave in the dead of night)" GM shakes his head. Erich says (to Dana), "(yes)" Kestrel catches up to the group. Erich says (to Dana), "(and should Lydia and Kestrel return, we shall have our -- aha)" Kestrel asks, "Well?" Dana says (to Mordigan), "aw. I rather savored the idea of you bent over your stitchery, clad only in scanty little skins." Dana says (to Kestrel), "it appears that if we descend the cliff face here, there is an underwater cave" [oneshot] Kestrel asks (of Dana), "You're still wearing your own scanty little skins, aren't you?" [oneshot] Dana says, "hush" Dana says, "which contains the chimur" Dana says, "Hence, we waited for the ring." Kestrel nods. Dana says, "I'm a decent hand at climbing" Kestrel asks, "Well, who wants to go, because it won't be me?" Dana says, "but if anyone else wants to go, that's fine too" Lydia looks over the cliff's edge. Kestrel says (to Dana), "I'd hate to break up your banter with Mordigan, though." Dana says, "ah, well" Dana says, "parting is such sweet sorrow" Dana says (to Erich), "if he does anything too stupid, hit him very, very hard." Erich says, "very well. but should you take too long I will come after you." [oneshot] Lydia says, "how difficult does the climbing look from here." [oneshot] Lydia asks, "?" Dana sheathes the knife and looks around for the light stick and the water-breathing-ring [oneshot] GM says, "Not too bad, but the darkness might make it harder." [oneshot] Dana says, "(Dana has climbing 3)" [oneshot] GM asks (of Dana), "Where is the sheath?" [oneshot] Lydia says, "yeah, I know." Erich hands the light stick to Dana [oneshot] Dana says (to GM), "I was figuring I'd reattached my regular belt over my, er, fancy dress" [oneshot] Kestrel exclaims, "Ah! Don't tell us! I don't want to know!" [oneshot] Dana says, "as a concession to usefulness" [oneshot] GM laughs. [oneshot] GM says (to Dana), "Fine with me." Dana wears the ring and tucks the light stick through the belt too to keep her hands free Dana descends. [7thsea] Dana rolls 6k3: 2 3 6 7 1 9 | 22 GM says, "The bobbing light moves down the cliff face toward the water." [interludes] GM has removed Lydia from the channel. [interludes] GM has added Dana to the channel. [interludes] GM says, "About thirty feet down, you get to a broad ledge." [interludes] Dana asks, "anything to see on it?" Kestrel says (to Mordigan), "Here, let me see that hand." [interludes] GM says, "Nothing in particular on the ledge. The water level is only a couple yards below you now, though." Kestrel is no chirugeon, but does his best to bandage it up. Mordigan politely lets Kestrel see his hands. [interludes] Dana says, "ok, I take a deep breath and slip down into the water. er, taking off my boots first though" Mordigan nods to him. GM says, "The light slips under the water, where it's a bit harder to see it." [interludes] GM says, "You are now treading water." [interludes] Dana asks, "can I see any sign of a cave?" [interludes] GM says, "Not from here." [interludes] Dana says, "ok, I let myself sink under the surface" Kestrel says (to Mordigan), "I suppose you know that your sentencing can vary quite a bit, depending on who we turn you over to. Please don't try to escape, and we'll see if we can't find someone a bit more lenient." [interludes] GM says, "OK. The reflection of the light off the underwater rocks is kind of eerie." [interludes] GM asks, "How deep are you going, and how quickly?" GM says, "The light darkens and disappears." Kestrel says, "But, uh, don't tell Dana I told you that." [interludes] Dana says, "fairly slowly, directly down the face of the cliff, and as deep as necessary" Kestrel asks, "Deal?" Mordigan just smiles at Kestrel. [interludes] GM asks, "OK. Down... down... down... are you looking mainly in front of you, or above/below, or to the sides...?" Kestrel sighs. [interludes] Dana says, "going slowly enough to look on both sides and up and down" [interludes] GM says, "You see a shadow a ways down that might be a cave." Lydia says, "In that case, we can retie your feet and let Erich carry you." [interludes] Dana descends towards it [interludes] GM says, "The closer you get, the more clearly you can see that it is indeed an opening in the rocks." [interludes] Dana says, "excellent" [interludes] GM says, "When you reach it, you can see that it goes in fairly deep." [interludes] Dana turns up the light stick to maximum brightness Erich smiles pleasantly. [interludes] GM says, "You can see something quite a ways ahead... it might be a turn, or it might be something blocking your passage. Either way, it'll be a little while before you get to it." [interludes] Dana moves forward, checking the ground and walls with the light stick for signs of indentations etc [interludes] GM says, "There are occassional fissures and crevices, yes. Checking them slows you down a bit." [interludes] Dana says, "ah well" [interludes] Dana says, "needs msut" GM says, "She's been udner for at least a minute now." [interludes] GM says, "As you proceed, you notice that whatever is up ahead does appear to be blocking the way. Its hard to see clearly though, since the lights bobbing with you, making the shadows move around as you go." [interludes] Dana goes up close to whatever it is. [interludes] GM says, "Moving closer, it looks like maybe it's not just the shadows moving, but rather the thing itself is... writhing." [interludes] Dana says, "ack" [interludes] GM asks, "Still getting closer?" [interludes] Dana says, "yes, but with dagger out" [interludes] Dana asks, "no sign of anything containing a chimur before this?" [interludes] GM says, "You get close enough tos ee it clearly, now. It's about the size of a person, and has an unclear number of tentacles. It appears to see you." [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "Nothing yet." [interludes] Dana asks, "giant squid like?" [interludes] GM says, "Very much so." [interludes] Dana says, "hmm." [interludes] Dana asks, "and I can see its eye?" [interludes] GM says, "Yes." GM says, "It's now been a good two minutes." [interludes] Dana says, "and I've got, what, the knife, the light, and the two rings" [interludes] GM says, "And a belt, and most of a dress." [interludes] Dana says, "heh" [interludes] Dana asks, "does it appear to be interested in the light?" [interludes] Dana tries waving the light back and forth Lydia asks, "Is the cave all that big?" [interludes] GM says, "It seems to be watching the movement." Kestrel looks in the water for any sign of the light. Mordigan shrugs, then nods. GM says (to Kestrel), "None." [interludes] Dana asks, "if I move slowly backward, does it follow?" [interludes] GM says, "No." [interludes] Dana says, "hmmm" [interludes] Dana asks, "any sign around here of what it eats? fish bones or shells or something?" [interludes] GM says, "No." [interludes] Dana goes closer to it [interludes] Dana asks, "is there any space to get past?" [interludes] GM says, "Yes. Not without it knowing, of course." [interludes] Dana fixes this spot in her mind [oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Wait--I was assuming rope, but was there one?" [interludes] Dana turns the light off and heads towards the space [oneshot] GM says, "No one mentioned one to me." [oneshot] Lydia asks, "rope? do we even have a rope that long?" [interludes] GM asks (of Dana), "Trying to get by unnoticed? Do you have Swimming?" Kestrel says, "It's going to be hard to climb back up with that chimur thing. I'm going to lower a rope." [interludes] Dana says, "I do not." Kestrel does so. [interludes] GM says, "Finesse - 1, then." [7thsea] Dana rolls 2k2: 6 10+2 | 18 [7thsea] GM rolls 2k1: 1 5 | 5 [interludes] GM says, "You pass where you think it is." Kestrel ties it to a convenient tree. [interludes] Dana tentatively turns the light back on a very little [interludes] GM says, "The squid turns around to face you again. It looks agitated, and starts swaying in place, from left to right across the breadth of the passage." GM asks, "How long is it?" Kestrel ties a rock to the end of the rope so it'll sink, lowers it. [oneshot] Kestrel asks (of GM), "How high's the cliff?" [interludes] Dana asks, "can I see anything on this side?" [oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "Ask me that in broad daylight :)" [interludes] Dana asks, "anything chimur-like, or more of hte passage?" [oneshot] Kestrel says, "Heh." [oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Estimate?" [interludes] GM says, "More passage, but it looks like you're not too far from the end." [oneshot] GM says, "Somewhere between twenty and forty feet." [interludes] Dana continues towards the end, searching with the dim light for chimur-like things [oneshot] Kestrel says, "OK, the whole 50' of rope, then." [interludes] GM says, "There, at the end. A staff, with a flat disk on one end." [interludes] Dana asks, "heavy?" [interludes] GM says, "Not particularly." [interludes] Dana picks it up [interludes] Dana asks, "how long is the staff?" GM says, "It's now been three or maybe even four minutes." [oneshot] Kestrel says, "(assuming, like D&D, that rope comes in 50' increments ;-)" [interludes] GM says, "Five or six feet long." [oneshot] GM says, "Heh." Kestrel starts to look suspiciously at Mordigan. Dan_Wood hollers, "I'm hanging out around the middle. Damn fatty american food!" Mordigan seems nonplussed. [interludes] Dana asks, "is there any space for passage left?" [oneshot] Kestrel asks, "He seems surprised? Or blase?" [oneshot] GM says, "Not really -- the way the squid's moving back and forth, it's mostly filling the space." [oneshot] GM says, "Er, you didn't ehar that." [interludes] GM says, "Not really -- the way the squid's moving back and forth, it's mostly filling the space." [oneshot] GM says, "Blase." [oneshot] Kestrel says, "LA LA LA LA LA." [oneshot] (from Dana) GM says, "I am also running a CoC campaign in the other room." [interludes] Dana asks, "I can see his eye?" [interludes] GM says, "Sure." [interludes] Dana carefully tears off a strip of the dress (yes this will only make things worse but I can't spare the belt) and uses it to tie the knife-hilt to the end of the staff [interludes] Dana says, "such that the knife blade makes a pointy part at the end" [interludes] GM asks, "The end that's not a disk, I presume?" [interludes] Dana says, "correct." [interludes] GM says, "OK. Tying." [7thsea] Dana rolls 4k3: 9 9 6 3 | 24 [interludes] Dana now holds the staff with the disk part at her end and the pointy part directly at Squid Cyclops there [interludes] GM says, "It continues to do its thing." [interludes] Dana advances quickly so that the squid will have to either get out of the way or get blinded [interludes] GM says, "Finesse + Polearm." [interludes] Dana says, "no polearm" [interludes] Dana asks, "raw finesse? or a finesse-1?" Kestrel asks (of Mordigan), "So, what, you hid it inside the cavern, too?" [interludes] GM says, "In this case, I'll let you do raw Finesse." [7thsea] Dana rolls 3k3: 9 4 2 | 15 [interludes] Dana says, "(heh)" Mordigan nods. [7thsea] GM rolls 3k3: 8 10+7 8 | 33 [interludes] Dana says, "(rrf)" [interludes] GM says, "You miss. The squid attacks. Initiative." [7thsea] Dana rolls 3 dice: 2 1 10 [interludes] Dana says, "combat reflexes" [7thsea] Dana rolls 1 die: 3 [interludes] GM says, "First phase is yours." [interludes] Dana asks, "um. do I need to detach the knife, or can I attempt to stab him again with knife-onna-stick?" [interludes] GM says, "-1 unkept to keep it attached, or one phase to detach it." [interludes] GM says, "(From your knife skill, I mean)" [interludes] Dana says, "right, ok" [interludes] Dana says, "I'll leave it on for the moment" Erich says, "I begin to think Dana may need help." [7thsea] Dana rolls 5k3: 9 8 9 1 10+9 | 37 [interludes] GM says, "You stab the beast. Roll for damage." [7thsea] Dana rolls 4k2: 10+6 5 10+1 7 | 27 [oneshot] Kestrel says, "Not with rolls like that, though ;-)" [interludes] GM says, "Also, TN is 20." [oneshot] Lydia says, "belated: Player's Guide price list lists Rope (50') 1g" [interludes] GM exclaims, "You do it a dramatic wound!" [interludes] Dana stabs the pole deep into its little squiddy head Kestrel says (to Erich), "Hmm. Well, we can certainly send someone else down, but they'd need to hold their breath." GM says, "It's now been a good five minutes, probably." [interludes] GM says, "Phase two, also your action." [interludes] Dana says, "ok, attack again" Lydia asks (of Mordigan), "Could a person get to the chimur just holding their breath?" [7thsea] Dana rolls 5k3: 10+8 2 3 2 10+7 | 38 Kestrel says, "Though I suppose two people could trade the ring back and forth." [7thsea] Dana rolls 4k2: 10+6 1 6 4 | 22 [oneshot] Kestrel says (to Dana), "You go, girl." Lydia asks, "You think that would work?" Kestrel shrugs. [interludes] GM says, "You lay the killing blow." [interludes] Dana stabs the knife through into the squiddy brain, then removes the chimur again [interludes] GM says, "Its tentacles shudder, and then go limp." [interludes] Dana would take a deep breath, except that it somehow feels wrong under water Kestrel says, "Breathe, hold your breath, hand off the ring, other person does same thing, repeat." Mordigan looks to Lydia, and shakes his head. [interludes] Dana carefully unties the knife again and cuts off a little piece of one of the tentacles. then sheathes the knife, collects her possessions, and heads for the rufance [interludes] Dana says, "er, the SURFACE" [interludes] Dana says, "sheesh" [interludes] GM says (to Dana), "You haven't felt the need to breather, particularly, since going down." [interludes] Dana nods [interludes] GM says, "It takes a little bit of time to work your way back out of the cave, of course." [interludes] Dana says, "naturally" [interludes] Dana says, "but I am going as rapidly as I can" Lydia says, "Humm. But if she's far enough in that I couldn't find her, going down wouldn't help." Lydia says, "I suppose we'll have to wait for her to find it or give up." GM says, "Six minutes." [interludes] GM says, "So you get out of the cave, and are able to start swimming upwards to the surface again." [interludes] Dana turns the light on full again GM says, "A dim glow appears under the water." [interludes] Dana says, "(just before I start my ascent)" Kestrel says, "Hey, there we go." GM says, "It grows brighter, until it breaks the surface with a quiet splash." [interludes] Dana clambers up onto the ledge Kestrel wiggles the rope. [interludes] GM says, "you notice a rope hanging nearby." [interludes] Dana says, "nice" [interludes] Dana ties the chimur to the rope and then tugs on it once [interludes] Dana says, "(since it seems it would be hard to climb with)" GM says (to Kestrel), "The rope jerks." Kestrel pulls up on the rope. [interludes] Dana says, "(securing it to the end with the disk so that the heavy part will be pulled up first)" [interludes] Dana begins her own ascent Kestrel says, "(experimentally, at first, to test weight)" [7thsea] Dana rolls 6k3: 10+5 1 1 3 1 3 | 21 [oneshot] Kestrel says, "That's a whole buncha 1's." GM says, "It feels like there's a person on the end." [interludes] Dana says, "(climbing a little way over from where the chimur is so that it won't fall and hit me if they lose their grip)" [interludes] GM says, "you make it up OK." Kestrel refrains from pulling the rope up, then. GM says, "Dana climbs up from below." Dana appears, wiping water out of her eyes Dana says, "someone pull that up." Kestrel exclaims, "You got it? Excellent!" GM says, "Her garment, if possible, seems to be even more scant than before." Kestrel pulls up the rope. Erich says, "welcome back" Miseri never imagined the next generation of pugilists to be so poorly dressed. Dana turns to Mordigan, shows him a piece of squid tentacle sushi from a squid obviously of unusual size GM says, "(Not that you'd notice such a thing, of course)" Dana asks (of Mordigan), "Did you know about THIS?" Kestrel grins happily. Whether at the prospect of getting the chimur or at Dana, you're not sure. Mordigan nods respectfully to Dana. Mordigan then shakes his head tot he question. [oneshot] Kestrel says, "(timing?)" Dana says (to Mordigan), "well, it seems that your treasure had acquired an extra guard." [oneshot] GM says, "Right." Dana says, "In any case, that's not important now." Kestrel pulls up the end of the rope. Dana says, "I didn't get much, er, chance to look at the chimur while I was down there" GM says, "When the rope is pulled up, it's tied to a five or six foot pole. At one end is affixed a stone disk." Erich says, "the fabled chimur" GM says, "A knife is lashed to the othe end, with a piece of hide -- the sort Erich's and Dana's clothes are made from." Erich checks it over for symbols. Kestrel asks, "Just a disk? No axle?" GM says (to Erich), "The flat surface of the disk has a rune inscribed in it." Dana says (to Kestrel), "NB the five-foot pole." [oneshot] Kestrel says, "Whoops." Dana unties her knife. Kestrel says, "Oh, duh." [oneshot] Kestrel asks, "How heavy is it, all told?" Dana says, "One of these days I'm going to take some lessons in polearm use." Erich looks at the rune to see if he recognizes it. [oneshot] GM says, "http://www.tiac.net/users/jota/sceptre.gif" [oneshot] Kestrel exclaims, "Yay URLs!" [oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "Not too much." [Crows-Nest] Erich says, "Aha. The rune is clearly from the online comic 'When I Am King'" [oneshot] Lydia says, "I have a strange feeling this is familiar. Not sure if it's from the game or not though." [oneshot] GM says (to Erich), "Roll Wits + Lore for recognition." Dana sits down over to the side and puts her head between her knees for a bit [7thsea] Erich rolls 5k3: 5 10+10+2 7 7 2 | 36 [oneshot] Kestrel exclaims, "Woo!" [oneshot] GM says, "Indeed, it is 'Mur'." Kestrel asks (of Dana), "You OK?" Erich says (to Dana), "when you are recovered you will have to tell us of your adventures." Kestrel gets out a blanket, puts it over Dana's shoulders. Dana says (to Erich), "They mostly consist of combat in a narrow passage with a human-sized squid" Dana says, "there was indeed a deep cave, not that hard to fine" Dana says, "er, find" Kestrel says, "Wow." Dana says, "but there was, ah, something between me and the goal" Dana says, "I managed to slip past, but agitated it enough that I couldn't get out again without killing it" [oneshot] Kestrel asks, "What's 'mur'?" [oneshot] GM asks, "Should you ask that IC?" [oneshot] Erich says, "'open or unlock'" [oneshot] Lydia asks, "opening or tool?" [oneshot] Lydia says, "right" Dana says, "I tried putting its eye out with the staff as it was rigged up with the knife, but I missed" Dana says, "still, would've been amusing. I have heard tales of seafarers doing such a thing with monsters before" Dana looks at the ring. "This is really quite amazing-- you don't seem to need to breathe, wearing it." Kestrel says, "An underwater battle with a hideous sea creature. How droll." Erich says, "ah. that could be useful in many situations." Dana says (to Kestrel), "well, I suspected that our dear friend here had sent me down to meet it on purpose" Kestrel says (to Dana), "Ah, so you couldn't trade off the ring with another person, then." Erich says, "and this device is indeed marked 'mur', so Mordigan appears not to have led us astray." Kestrel asks (of erich), "Is the pole 'chi'?" Dana says, "but I couldn't decide how he would have managed to get it down there himself, if the squid was there when he went" Erich takes a look at the pole. Kestrel says (to Dana), "He may be telling the truth about that, at least, then." Dana nods. GM says (to Erich), "no markings are apparently." Lydia says, "I thought you said 'chi' was tool." Kestrel says, "But, we should head off." Dana says, "Yes." Kestrel asks (of Dana), "Are you recovered sufficiently?" Dana says, "Yes-- I wasn't wounded at all" Dana says, "Just a bit... surprised." [oneshot] Erich says, "Okay, need sleep before work tomorrow." [oneshot] Kestrel says, "Yeah, this is a good stopping point." [oneshot] GM says, "Nifty. Two XP all around, then." GM gives drama die to Dana. Dana says, "yay" [oneshot] Kestrel exclaims, "Woo!" [oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Next week, Saturday?" [oneshot] Erich says, "works for me." [oneshot] GM asks, "Sure. Eight o'clock?" [oneshot] Kestrel says, "OK here." [oneshot] GM says, "Also, I should let you know, I'll be doing a hiatus after we finish this story." [oneshot] Kestrel says, "OK. Let's drag it out as long as possible, then ;-)" [oneshot] GM says, "For the sakes of the Vodacce and colonial games." [oneshot] Erich says, "Bedtime" Erich has disconnected. [oneshot] Kestrel nods. [oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Anyone know if, say, vodacce and colonial are going to alternate weeks? Or has that been decided yet?" [oneshot] Dana says, "I'm not really tracking what's going on with colonial" [oneshot] Dana says, "since I'm only playing vodacce" [oneshot] Kestrel nods. [oneshot] Kestrel says, "Same here, but I think Sara was interested in colonial." [oneshot] Kestrel says, "Though I don't think she's connected with Mis recently." [oneshot] Kestrel exclaims, "Oy, yawn. I must sleep, too. Wave!" You say, "Lot off." You say, "Er, log."
