LydiaBot says, "Arr (in a dress)"
GM says, "Aha."
Kestrel exclaims, "Yay!"
[7thsea] LydiaBot says, "okay, recap me"
[7thsea] LydiaBot asks, "also, what channel is all this on?"
[7thsea] Jemmy says, "#oneshot"
[oneshot] LydiaBot says, "cool"
[oneshot] LydiaBot says, "I'm already here"
[7thsea] Jemmy says, "the situation is, we're in a triangular room with a ledge in the upper corner, separate from the rest of the room by a moat"
[7thsea] LydiaBot asks, "which bit are we in?"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "Jemmy is in the upper corner on the ledge. Erich has just come out of the water (naked). Lydia is in the corner looking away discretely"
Kestrel asks (of GM), "Brawn 2. Did you get that already?"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "er, discreetly"
GM says, "When last we visited our heroic band, they were in a large triangular room with a door in the south wall, and a moat dividing the room into north and south halves, such that the north half was significantly higher up than the south."
[oneshot] LydiaBot says, "ah ha"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "and Kestrel is in the main portion of the room"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "three evil knights have just teleported into the room as they have been doing at previous times in the adventure"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "they are TN 20 and take I think three dramatic wounds to die"
[oneshot] LydiaBot says, "nice"
[oneshot] LydiaBot asks, "what am I armed with?"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "and they can summon little glowing balls that fly around and zap you"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "you are a porte apprentice and a swordswoman"
[oneshot] LydiaBot asks, "and will the GM tell me what my attacks are and what to roll?"
Kestrel says, "Hey, resolve 3. And sprinting 1."
[oneshot] GM says, "Also, they happened to appear directly in the corner Lydia was facing."
[oneshot] LydiaBot says, "joy"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "so I believe we determined that you are fencing 3, finesse 3, wits 2, resolve 3, panache 2, brawn 2"
Kestrel says (to LB), "Your TN's 20, brawn 2, resolve 3, 6k3 attack, 4k2 damage."
[oneshot] GM says, "Wits 2, Finess 3, Resolve 3, Panache 2, Brawn 2. Fencing 3, Defense Knack of Some Sort 3. Weapon: fencing sword (2k2)."
[oneshot] LydiaBot says, "cool"
[oneshot] LydiaBot says, "let's do it"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "alrighty"
[oneshot] Erich says, "I have a feasability question as we start."
[7thsea] Kestrel says, "Woah, Lydia has porte? Didn't know that."
GM says, "So as Erich was starting to climb out of the water, there was a zhroomph noise, and three tall figures in purple armor materialized on the red floor tile, directly in front of Lydia. Initiative."
[oneshot] Jemmy says (to Kestrel), "she hasn't used it yet"
[7thsea] Jemmy rolls 2 dice: 7 2
[7thsea] LydiaBot rolls 2 dice: 9 9
[7thsea] Kestrel rolls 3 dice: 7 8 7
[7thsea] Erich rolls 3 dice: 2 7 9
[oneshot] LydiaBot asks, "do I have combat reflexes?"
[oneshot] GM says (to Erich), "You have time to grab your pants or your sword before the fight starts. Grabbing the other will require an action."
[oneshot] LydiaBot says, "(please)"
[oneshot] Erich says, "Run towards one of them, grab it by the arm, do this back-roll-and-kick to dump it in the moat."
[oneshot] Jemmy says (to Lydia), "I don't think so"
[oneshot] LydiaBot says, "d'oh"
[oneshot] Erich says, "(and I'll go with sword and leave pants. Man, I hope they don't shock me anyplace too bad)"
[oneshot] Jemmy says (to Erich), "ha"
[oneshot] LydiaBot says, "hee hee"
[7thsea] GM rolls 3 dice: 1 3 2
[7thsea] GM rolls 3 dice: 9 4 4
[7thsea] GM rolls 3 dice: 7 7 8
[Crows-Nest] LydiaBot asks, "dammit, how can I fight and discreetly look away?"
[oneshot] GM says (to Erich), "Hmm. Sounds like a Grapple with two raises."
[Crows-Nest] Kestrel says, "You'll probably have to forgo one or the other ;-)"
[Crows-Nest] LydiaBot says, "mmm. my honor or your lives...."
[oneshot] Erich asks, "so a TN of 25?"
[oneshot] Jemmy asks (of GM), "uh, speaking of, what do I have on the other side of the moat with me? anything?"
[oneshot] GM asks (of Jemmy), "Did you bring your sword?"
[oneshot] GM says (to Erich), "30, since normal TN is 20."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "well, I'm wondering what it was plausible to jump with"
[oneshot] Erich says, "Hm mrm."
[oneshot] GM says (to Erich), "Actually, call it one raise, TN 25."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "I guess the handle I could have, since it's just a handle"
[oneshot] Erich says, "It's too goofy not to try."
[oneshot] Kestrel exclaims (at Erich), "Yay!"
[oneshot] LydiaBot says, "woo"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "and, I suppose, the bullwhip across my back would have been doable."
[oneshot] Kestrel exclaims, "That's so crazy it just might work!"
GM says, "The symbols on the chest of the foremost figure begin to glow, and three purple spheres lift from it and beign circling the room."
[oneshot] Erich says, "yay"
[7thsea] GM rolls 3 dice: 9 7 8
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Arr, they get immediate initiative? Suck."
[oneshot] GM says, "Phase two, Erich."
[oneshot] Erich says (to Kestrel), "one of them was phase 1"
[oneshot] Kestrel says (to Erich), "Not the armor, the spheres."
[oneshot] Erich says, "Okay, doing the wackiness mentioned above."
Erich, dripping from the water, yells (pausing only long enough to scoop up his sword), and runs dead at one of the suits of armor.
[7thsea] Erich rolls 4k3: 3 3 6 8 | 17
[oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "They'd have lost any phases from before they appeared -- so if they appeared in phase 4 and rolled 2 3 6, they'd only get one action that round."
[oneshot] Erich says, "Time for a drama die"
[7thsea] Erich rolls 1k1: 2 | 2
[oneshot] GM says, "(That's the rule I've adopted for anyone coming into the middle of a fight.)"
[oneshot] Erich says, "Feh. And the other."
[7thsea] Erich rolls 1k1: 6 | 6
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "yay"
[oneshot] Kestrel says (to GM), "OK, that's fair enough."
[oneshot] GM says (to Erich), "Go for it."
Erich grabs the arm of the nearest suit of armor and rolls backwards, pulling it onto his outstretched leg. He flexes the knee, grunts, and kicks out hard while completing his backwards roll.
Erich says, "uff. dizzy."
Erich turns to see where the armor landed.
GM says, "The suit hits the water on its back, and slowly sinks, bubbles trickling up to the surface."
Kestrel exclaims, "All right!"
[oneshot] GM says, "Phase two, Jemmy."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "hrm, I'm still on the other side of the water"
[oneshot] Jemmy asks, "can I wait for someone to come close and grab a leg with a bullwhip and try and pull them into the water?"
[oneshot] Erich says, "I gave you a suit of armor to help cross."
[oneshot] Erich says, "Pity it sank, though."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "hee hee hee"
[oneshot] GM says, "Sure. I'd call that a raise to bullwhip (to catch), and a contested brawn. But you'll need to wait until one's near the water."
[oneshot] Jemmy exclaims, "we must keep piling more on until it is full!"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "ok, I'll hold then"
[oneshot] Erich says, "perhaps they will be like lemmings"
Jemmy unships his bullwhip and waits alertly.
Kestrel asks (of Jemmy), "You trying to get one from there?"
GM says, "The surface of the water ripples, and a helmet emerges. The figure regains its feet (in the moat), water dripping from the chinks in the armor."
Erich asks (of Kestrel), "He's got one up there?"
Erich tries to clear the water from his ears.
LydiaBot says (to erich), "He does now"
Kestrel says (to Erich), "Uh, your armor is coming back."
Erich says, "scheisse."
Erich says, "and such a *pretty* throw. Old master Grimhook would have been proud."
GM says, "The markings on its chest gleam again, half under the water, and three more orbs join the ones already massing in the room."
[oneshot] Kestrel exclaims, "Re-roll! Re-roll!"
[oneshot] GM says, "And conveniently, phase four also belongs to the armor..."
GM says, "A second figure steps forward, making his way toward the middle of the room, and specifically Erich."
[oneshot] Erich asks, "Is the door open?"
[7thsea] GM rolls 6k3: 5 5 7 8 2 1 | 20
[oneshot] GM says, "Yes."
[oneshot] GM says, "(This puts the figure in whip range, BTW)"
[oneshot] GM asks (of Erich), "A hit?"
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Which one is this, BTW?"
[oneshot] Erich says, "Oh. Yes. I'm TN 20."
[oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "This is one fo the two suits who have not yet been involved in the fight."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "knowledge of one's pantsless state should give +1 TN"
[7thsea] GM rolls 5k2: 3 2 10+4 9 9 | 23
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Did he throw the 449 or the 778 in the water?"
[oneshot] GM says, "I assumed the 123, since it was in the front of the group."
[7thsea] Erich rolls 4k4: 9 10+8 6 7 | 40
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "nice"
[oneshot] LydiaBot says, "wow"
GM says, "It swings and hits, but Erich is well able to handle the pain."
GM says, "Not to be ignored, it strikes again."
[7thsea] GM rolls 6k3: 10+5 1 4 5 9 10+1 | 35
Erich says, "ah, good. The water is gone from my ears."
[7thsea] GM rolls 5k2: 10+2 10+9 10+4 3 4 | 33
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Ow! Ow ow ow."
[7thsea] Erich rolls 4k4: 2 7 9 6 | 24
[oneshot] GM says, "That'd be two dramatics."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "yeow ow"
Erich falls to one knee. "Damn damn damn damn damn."
GM says, "The second blow hits again in the same spot as the first, ripping a wide rent in Erich's side."
[oneshot] GM asks, "Any interrupts before phase seven, now that this suit is in the middle of the room?"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "me, yes"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Jemmy has a held, yeah."
Jemmy, waiting until the armor is off-balance from the swing, strikes out with his whip at its leg.
[7thsea] Jemmy rolls 6k3: 7 9 9 3 2 9 | 27
Jemmy exclaims, "HA-ha!"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "(sadly, I only have two brawn)"
GM says, "The tip wraps several times around the figure's ankle."
[oneshot] Jemmy asks, "hrm, I have swinging, but no other relevant skills. just straight brawn, then?"
[oneshot] GM says, "Yeah."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "i might have to use a drama die, but here goes"
[7thsea] Jemmy rolls 2k2: 7 10+2 | 19
[7thsea] GM rolls 3k3: 9 5 1 | 15
[oneshot] LydiaBot says, "yay"
Jemmy exclaims, "HA-ha!"
[oneshot] GM says, "Excellent."
[oneshot] Erich says, "excellent"
Jemmy yanks hard on the whip, tipping the armor off-balance.
GM says, "The things foot flips back into the air, letting its face smack into the stone floor before the whole thing slides into the water."
[7thsea] GM rolls 1k3: 5 | 5
[7thsea] GM rolls 3k3: 1 10+8 6 | 25
[oneshot] GM says, "Five flesh, as well."
[oneshot] Erich says, "Sure, *that* one gets hurt."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "(does it fall onto the other one?)"
[oneshot] GM says (to Jemmy), "Alas, no."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "ah well"
[oneshot] Erich says, "I had hoped the things would short out"
[oneshot] Erich says, "especially when the glowy spheres took off"
[oneshot] GM says, "If you had wanted to aim that way, it'd ahve been a raise."
[oneshot] GM asks, "Phase seven... Kestrel, do you have reflexes or anything?"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "No."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "If I had I would have re-rolled much earlier ;-)"
[oneshot] GM says, "The spheres, oblivious to the water dividing the room, swoop down on Jemmy."
GM says, "The spheres, oblivious to the water dividing the room, swoop down on Jemmy."
Jemmy exclaims, "yipe!"
[7thsea] GM rolls 8k3: 10+2 10+8 6 4 3 7 7 10+3 | 43
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "and ow"
[oneshot] GM asks, "TN 20?"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "yeah"
GM says, "All but one find their mark on that precipice above..."
[oneshot] GM says, "Thirty flesh."
Erich asks, "why could these things not have attacked the others instead?"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "cripes"
[7thsea] Jemmy rolls 2k2: 1 7 | 8
[oneshot] Erich says, "Yie. We are getting our pantsless rears handed to us."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "uh, I'd better spend a drama die"
Lydia arrives, looking for booty.
[7thsea] Jemmy rolls 1k1: 7 | 7
[oneshot] GM asks, "Two dramatics. With the one from earlier, I believe that's crippled?"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "(to avoid being crippled)"
[oneshot] GM says, "Strike that. One dramatic."
Jemmy exclaims, "hey! ow! get away!"
[oneshot] GM asks, "For a total of two. Resolve is how much?"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "3, right"
[oneshot] Jemmy says (to Lydia), "hey, you're just in time"
LydiaBot says (to lydia), "yay, you're here"
GM says, "And the last suit of armor lurches into action toward Lydia, at the same moment as Kestrel readies himself."
[oneshot] Erich asks, "We on phase 7?"
[oneshot] Jemmy says (to Lydia), "you have two actions on 9, I believe"
[oneshot] LydiaBot exclaims, "okay, laters. and i didn't even get to fight!"
[oneshot] GM says, "Yes."
[oneshot] Jemmy exclaims (at LydiaBot), "thansk!"
[oneshot] LydiaBot says (to lydia), "two actions on 9, nothing much else"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "er, thanks. anyway, I mean."
[oneshot] Erich says, "excellent. My turn this phase as well."
LydiaBot goes home.
Kestrel asks, "Simultaneous moves?"
[oneshot] Jemmy says (to Lydia), "Erich threw one of the armor into the moat and I pulled the other in with my bullwhip"
[oneshot] GM says (to Erich), "Right, after these two."
[oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "Yes."
[oneshot] katre has joined the channel.
[7thsea] GM rolls 6k3: 4 8 6 6 2 7 | 21
[oneshot] GM asks (of Lydia), "That's aimed at you. Any defense?"
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Oh, its not releasing spheres?"
[oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "Not at the moment."
[oneshot] Lydia says, "defense... nah."
[7thsea] GM rolls 5k2: 7 6 2 8 1 | 15
[7thsea] Lydia rolls 2k2: 9 10+4 | 23
Kestrel shoots the armor, aiming for the chestplate where the spheres emerge, hoping to damage it.
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "I get one free raise, that'll be the aiming."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "man, they're hitting every time"
[7thsea] Kestrel rolls 6k3: 3 2 4 4 5 7 | 16
GM says, "The suit nicks Lydia's arm, drawing a little blood, but not much."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Arr, suck."
GM says, "The arrow embeds itself neatly in a crack in the wall."
[oneshot] GM asks (of Erich), "Did you have any reflexes, etc.?"
[oneshot] Erich says, "Not useful ones, apparently. :)"
[oneshot] Kestrel exclaims, "Madya blink!"
GM says, "Again, Kestrel and the same armor move, as Erich recovers enough composure to join in."
[oneshot] GM asks, "Man. How'd everyone roll the same sevens and eights?"
[Crows-Nest] Kestrel says, "I know, as soon as they start attacking me, they'll stop rolling 20's and 21s and start with the 25s and 26s."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "*I* rolled a 9"
[oneshot] Erich says, "as did I"
[oneshot] GM says (to Jemmy), "Really? Hrm. Maybe I'm confused."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "er, maybe not"
[oneshot] GM says, "I thought Jemmy had 27 and Erich 778."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "whoops, you're right"
[oneshot] GM says, "Er, and Kestrel 778, I mean."
[oneshot] GM asks, "Erich, Somethingelse78?"
[Crows-Nest] Kestrel says, "Yeah, the armor and I had 778."
[Crows-Nest] Kestrel asks, "There's one with his head sticking above the water right now, right? Does that count as prone?"
[Crows-Nest] Kestrel says, "ILAC, but still."
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "There's one with his head sticking above the water right now, right? Does that count as prone?"
[oneshot] GM asks (of Kestrel), "In what respect?"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "To be hit."
[oneshot] GM says, "Ah. No, but it can be a free raise."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "OK, cool."
Kestrel drops the bow, grabs his knife and jabs it at the helmet sticking out of the water.
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Can I use the raise to try to knock it under again? Make it spend another action to get up?"
GM says, "At the same time, the last suit of armor lunges at Kestrel from the side."
Erich turns with Kestrel and, grimacing as he pulls against his wound, swings his broadsword at the thing's head.
[oneshot] GM says, "Mmm. I'd say you'd have to use a skill like Kicking or Grappling to knock it down."
[oneshot] GM says, "Or that school knack."
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "School knack?"
[oneshot] Erich says, "Knocking People Down 101"
[oneshot] GM says, "One of the swordsman schools had a 'knock something down' knack; I forget the name."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "corps-a-corps"
[oneshot] GM says, "That's it."
[oneshot] Lydia says, "Must be useful for bowling."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "hee hee"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "OK, normal attack, raise for damage, not to-hit."
[oneshot] GM says, "Hee."
[oneshot] Erich laughs.
[7thsea] Kestrel rolls 6k3: 2 10+9 6 5 7 6 | 32
[7thsea] Kestrel rolls 4k2: 10+2 1 9 5 | 21
[7thsea] GM rolls 3k3: 1 9 1 | 11
[oneshot] GM says, "Nice. Dramatic wound."
[7thsea] Erich rolls 6k3: 9 1 10+6 9 6 10+8 | 43
[oneshot] Erich exclaims, "ha HA!"
[7thsea] Erich rolls 8k2: 6 8 1 1 5 3 6 1 | 14
[7thsea] GM rolls 3k3: 2 4 4 | 10
[oneshot] GM says, "And another."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "ha"
[oneshot] Kestrel exclaims, "YAY!"
GM says, "And the one attacking Kestrel..."
[7thsea] GM rolls 6k3: 2 2 7 3 10+9 5 | 31
[7thsea] GM rolls 4k2: 9 7 9 1 | 18
[7thsea] GM rolls 1k1: 2 | 2
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "What did I tell you?"
GM says, "Sorry, that's a 20."
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Eh?"
GM says, "Wait. Not, it's an 18. Sorry."
Erich asks, "Do I hear a 15?"
[7thsea] Kestrel rolls 2k2: 6 6 | 12
[oneshot] GM says, "One dramatic for Kestrel."
[oneshot] GM says, "Finally, to finish the phase, Jemmy."
Kestrel gets a nice shot at the helmet, but gets side-swiped from the other side by the standing armor.
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "ok, um, can you recap everybody? there's two guys in the water (any wounds?), one glowing ball, and one armor out of the water (any wounds?)"
[oneshot] Erich says, "One of the two in the water has two dramatics"
[oneshot] Erich says, "from the Kestrel n' Erich show."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "aha"
[oneshot] GM says, "One figure standing in the water, two dramatic. One still under the water, five flesh."
[oneshot] Jemmy asks (of GM), "can I hit the one standing?"
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "With?"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "sword"
[oneshot] Erich says, "lead-filled muffin"
[oneshot] GM says (to Jemmy), "Too far to reach with the sword."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "It's down the cliff from you."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "hrm, good point"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "You could jump on its head."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "hey hey"
[oneshot] Erich says, "If you could trip it back under the water, that'd be nifty"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "jumping on it sounds reckless and yet fun"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "what'd be the roll for that? (I do have leaping 1)"
[oneshot] GM asks, "But you could reach with the whip. No bonuses, though, since the distance negates the posture advantage. Jumping on which one?"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "the standing one, I guess"
[oneshot] GM says, "Free raise, I'd say (like Kestrel's knife), so effective TN 15."
[oneshot] Jemmy asks, "er, ok, so what do I roll?"
[oneshot] GM says, "Finesse + Leaping."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "alrighty"
Jemmy shouts "banzai!" and jumps off the ledge.
[7thsea] Jemmy rolls 4k3: 7 4 6 3 | 17
Erich says, "he has no fear"
Erich says, "or sense"
Jemmy says, "take thaaaat"
[oneshot] GM says, "Damage 1k your Brawn, plus an extra unkept for the height."
[oneshot] Jemmy asks, "I have brawn 2, so 2k2?"
[oneshot] GM says, "Right."
[7thsea] Jemmy rolls 2k2: 6 7 | 13
[7thsea] GM rolls 3k3: 1 10+3 4 | 18
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "hmm, drama die"
[7thsea] Jemmy rolls 1k1: 2 | 2
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "dang"
[oneshot] Erich says, "undramatic die"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "pah on you, drama die"
Jemmy . o O ( whuh-oh )
GM says, "The thing and Jemmy both go down under the water, although it's a much softer landing for Jemmy than his friend."
[oneshot] GM says, "Phase seven -- simultaneous for Kestrel, Erich, and the third Armor, again."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "hee hee"
[oneshot] Jemmy asks, "you guys do know CPR, right?"
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "We did the simul-7 already. simul-8, you mean?"
[oneshot] GM says, "Er, right."
[oneshot] GM says, "Actually, no."
[oneshot] Erich says, "no, but I do know the immelmann maneuver, in case you're choking"
[oneshot] GM says, "Before that:"
GM says, "The last sphere hovers for a moment over the water where Jemmy went down, but as he's below the surface, it makes a beeline for Kestrel instead."
[7thsea] GM rolls 3k3: 8 1 3 | 12
Kestrel almost unconsciously dodges the puny sphere.
[oneshot] GM says, "OK, now simul-8."
Kestrel stabs the armor in the gut where the spheres have yet to emerge, hoping to damage the area.
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "One raise for that."
[7thsea] Kestrel rolls 6k3: 3 10+8 4 10+8 3 10+6 | 52
GM says, "The last dry suit of armor stops in his tracks, and its chest begins to glow..."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "woo"
[oneshot] Erich says, "and it EXPLODES"
[oneshot] GM says, "That's a hit; you'll need to roll damage."
[7thsea] Kestrel rolls 3k2: 8 3 9 | 17
[7thsea] GM rolls 3k3: 4 9 9 | 22
[oneshot] Jemmy asks, "kestrel rolls 4k2, shouldn't he?"
[oneshot] Jemmy asks, "1k2 + 1 unkept + 2 brawn?"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "I rolled 4k2 last time for the raise."
[oneshot] Jemmy asks, "oh, I see, this raise was the called shot?"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "I was going for an affect raise, not a damage--right."
GM says, "There's a spark -- two orbs emerge from its chestplate, flying erratically, but the third circle marking is left as a blackened gouge."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "hey, neat"
[oneshot] Kestrel exclaims, "Woo!"
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Did it do damage on the way out?"
[oneshot] Erich says, "rockin"
[oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "Damage to you? No."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "hey, this is almost lydia's BIG MOMENT"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "No, damage to the armor."
[oneshot] GM says, "Yes. 17 flesh. And there are now three spheres in the room."
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "I meant: Does the fact that one of them malfunctioned do extra electrical damage to the armor?"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "I take it 'no', though."
[oneshot] GM says, "Oh, right. No. But the suit is no longer capable of making three spheres at once."
[oneshot] GM asks, "Did Erich act?"
[oneshot] Erich asks, "this roun 9?"
[oneshot] Erich says, "er, round"
[oneshot] GM says, "Eight. You don't ahve an 8? OK, never mind."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "8"
[oneshot] Erich says, "See, that's what I thought."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Erich and Lydia get a simultaneous 9."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "(279 & 99)"
[oneshot] Erich says, "just because I'm wounded and have water in my ears and am still a little dizzy from that roll doesn't mean you can fool me about which round this is."
GM says, "Lydia, stunned by such goings on until this moment, recovers her peace of mind..."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "hee hee"
[oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "99 before 9."
[oneshot] Jemmy says (to Lydia), "psst, unidle"
Lydia jabs at the suit on land.
[7thsea] Lydia rolls 6k3: 2 2 7 7 5 4 | 19
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "9 9 before 2 7 9?"
[oneshot] Erich says, "So one's above water, one's below water with Jemmy, and one's on land."
[oneshot] Lydia says, "hm. drama die, I think."
GM says (to Kestrel), "2 7 are all used up."
[7thsea] Lydia rolls 1k1: 7 | 7
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "the above water one was the one I jumped on"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "I just meant that they both add up to 18, so, simultaneous."
[oneshot] GM says (to Erich), "Two below with Jemmy."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "rendering us both below water"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "much like my stock options"
[oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "Except the 27 don't add in anymore, since he used those actions. If he held them, then they'd count."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Oh! Didn't know that."
[7thsea] Lydia rolls 4k2: 5 8 8 8 | 16
[7thsea] GM rolls 3k3: 6 8 4 | 18
[oneshot] GM says, "Dramatic."
Lydia wedges her sword between plates on the stomach, and makes a slice in the clay.
[oneshot] GM says, "And now, Spheres, second guard, Lydia, and Erich, all at once."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "hee hee"
[oneshot] Lydia asks, "doesn't Erich go first because he has more Panache?"
[oneshot] GM says, "Oh. Forgot that."
[oneshot] GM says, "Sphers, secnd guard, not Lydia, and Erich."
GM says, "A suit of purple armor erupts from the water, not too far from where Jemmy recently disappeared."
Erich leaps for the armor as it comes out of the air, stabbing down with his sword with all his might.
[oneshot] Erich says, "Jemmy needs more company."
GM says, "And meanwhile, the three orbs that are left descend on Lydia."
[7thsea] Erich rolls 6k3: 1 7 9 2 4 1 | 20
[oneshot] GM asks (of Erich), "Out of the water, you mean?"
[oneshot] Erich says, "thin water, yes."
[oneshot] (from Jemmy) Erich says "Wait, I mean, fire! No, earth! No, power of wood!"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Hee."
[oneshot] GM laughs.
[oneshot] GM asks, "OK. So you're jumping on it and hitting it with the sword at the same time?"
[oneshot] Erich says, "Er."
[oneshot] Erich says, "Not if it adds to the TN. :)"
[oneshot] GM says, "It does, but you have a free raise from it being mostly below you, so it evens out."
[oneshot] Erich says, "well, leapy leapy then."
Jemmy . o O ( please don't fall on me )
[oneshot] GM says, "And since you're huge and stuff, +2 unkept damage."
[oneshot] Erich says, "hot diggety."
[7thsea] Erich rolls 10k2: 6 8 9 9 1 6 5 5 10+5 4 | 24
[7thsea] GM rolls 3k3: 1 4 4 | 9
[oneshot] GM says, "A second dramatic."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Wait, the one we hit before had 2 already."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "(so this is not the one with two dramatic wounds?)"
[oneshot] GM says (to Jemmy), "That one's under the water with you."
[oneshot] Erich says, "The one with two dramatics went down under jemmy"
[oneshot] Erich says, "this is the one that got 5 flesh from going bouncy after jemmy tripped"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "hee hee"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Oh! So it got 2 dramatic exactly from this one, being 20 out of its roll."
[oneshot] Jemmy exclaims, "good work team!"
[oneshot] GM says, "Oh, that's right. That's two dramatics, then. And it's out of commission."
[oneshot] Erich says, "ERICH SMASH"
[oneshot] GM says (to Erich), "Feel free to play that."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "hee hee"
[oneshot] Kestrel exclaims, "YAY!"
Erich feels the point of his sword going into the suit's helm and balances on the hilt, driving the sword further and further into the armor. You see him grinning wildly as he and the armor vanish underwater.
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "hee hee"
[oneshot] Erich says, "Well, drat, more water in my ears."
[oneshot] Kestrel exclaims, "Whee!"
GM says, "There's what looks like a small explosion -- or possible an implosion, under the water, and a flash of purple light refracts onto the walls for an instant."
Kestrel . o O ( Oooh, pretty. Also, ow. )
GM says, "Mercifully, Erich's manly form is again out of Lydia's immediate view."
[oneshot] Jemmy says (to GM), "hee hee hee"
[7thsea] GM rolls 5k3: 10+2 1 9 7 4 | 28
GM says, "Meanwhile, the float messengers of pain smack against Lydia, two of them dealing damage. Twelve flesh."
[7thsea] Lydia rolls 2k2: 5 5 | 10
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "12?"
[oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "Two spheres, six points each."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Somehow I thought they were doing 5 each."
[oneshot] GM says, "And now Lydia's turn."
Lydia winces from the shock, but returns her attention to the suit of armor, attacking it again from the other side.
[7thsea] Lydia rolls 6k3: 6 5 2 2 1 7 | 18
Lydia swings past the thing this time.
GM says, "That's round one. Heroes 1.7, Things 0. Initiative."
[oneshot] Lydia says, "Does that leave one sphere, or do they survive a hit? I can't remember."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "hee hee"
[7thsea] Jemmy rolls 2 dice: 10 1
[oneshot] GM says, "One left."
[7thsea] Lydia rolls 2 dice: 7 2
[7thsea] GM rolls 3 dice: 4 4 8
[7thsea] Kestrel rolls 3 dice: 4 1 2
[7thsea] GM rolls 3 dice: 8 6 3
[7thsea] Erich rolls 3 dice: 1 9 5
[7thsea] GM rolls 3 dice: 9 2 7
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "One sphere, one armor up top with one dramatic no flesh, one underwater with two dramatic?"
GM says, "Note for people under water: if you choose not to surface on your first action, I'll have to start counting your time under water against your resolve."
[oneshot] GM says, "Two dramatic and 15 flesh, right."
[oneshot] Erich asks, "What's time per round?"
[oneshot] Jemmy says (to armor), "only one of us is coming up to the surface, and it's NOT GONNA BE YOU"
[oneshot] Kestrel exclaims, "Yay!"
[oneshot] Erich exclaims, "woo!"
[oneshot] Lydia says, "you tell it."
[oneshot] GM says, "I'm going to say 1 Resolve worth of air in your lungs per action, or .5 Resolve worth for doing nothing."
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Erich, jemmy, then me on phase 1?"
[oneshot] GM says, "Exacttly."
[oneshot] GM says, "Also, if you have Swimming, count each rank as a .5 Resolve, in this respect."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "dang, shoulda bought it"
[oneshot] Lydia says, "I thought none of us had Swimming."
[oneshot] Erich asks, "So that's per action, then? or do we get assessed .5 per round even if we don't have an action in it?"
[oneshot] GM says (to Erich), "Per action, right."
[oneshot] Erich says, "Hot diggety. I can stay under at least one round dealing death."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "you know, I didn't, like, remove my clothes before jumping in the water"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "I hope somebody has a change of pants"
[oneshot] Erich says, "I do but you cannot have them jemmy"
[oneshot] Erich says, "besides, you'd have to belt them around your neck"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "I think two of me could fit in your pants"
[oneshot] GM says, "Jemmy could probably fit into one pant from Erich."
[oneshot] GM says, "Timing."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "and there's nothing better than JEMMY TO THE SECOND POWER"
[oneshot] Jemmy says (to Erich), "g'wan, hit the guy"
[7thsea] Erich rolls 6k3: 10+1 1 10+9 1 8 9 | 39
[oneshot] GM says, "(Also, since you're both under water, I'm going to require a raise to deal with resistance. Which is fine, since you're The Man and all.)"
[oneshot] Erich says, "Aww yeahh."
[oneshot] GM says, "You hit the poor struggling fellow."
[7thsea] Erich rolls 8k2: 3 1 4 4 10+1 8 9 6 | 20
[7thsea] GM rolls 3k3: 2 7 5 | 14
GM says, "Third dramatic -- toasted."
Erich exclaims, "bwrrb fwrb blrrb, yrb blfrb!"
[oneshot] Jemmy exclaims (at Erich), "thank goodness Lydia couldn't hear that!"
[oneshot] Erich says, "indeed"
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "So, Jemmy climbs out, I attack?"
Jemmy bursts out of the water and takes a deep breath. "Ha-ha!"
GM says (to Kestrel, Lydia), "You again see that disturbance on the surface of the water, as the momentary purple glow fills the chamber."
[oneshot] GM asks (of Kestrel), "What's he done to you?"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "hee hee"
[oneshot] Kestrel laughs.
[oneshot] Erich exclaims, "ha!"
Kestrel attacks the armor, feinting low.
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "(I assume I can't climb out and attack in the same action, so I'll just surface and climb out if possible)"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "One raise for damage."
[7thsea] Kestrel rolls 6k3: 1 8 10+6 8 8 9 | 33
[7thsea] Kestrel rolls 4k2: 2 8 6 7 | 15
[7thsea] GM rolls 3k3: 4 8 6 | 18
GM says, "Another deep scratch, but only surface damage."
GM says, "Phase two, the last sphere aim itself for Kestrel again."
[7thsea] GM rolls 3k3: 4 8 1 | 13
Kestrel dodges his head reflexively, the sphere sails harmlessly past.
[oneshot] GM says, "Also this phase: Lydia, then Kestrel."
Lydia lunges toward the suit again.
[7thsea] Lydia rolls 6k3: 4 10+3 7 5 2 8 | 28
[7thsea] Lydia rolls 4k2: 8 1 4 1 | 12
[7thsea] GM rolls 3k3: 6 6 8 | 20
[oneshot] GM says, "Second dramatic."
Kestrel ignores the sphere, goes for the armor once more.
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "No raises this time"
[7thsea] Kestrel rolls 6k3: 9 10+7 2 7 2 3 | 33
[7thsea] Kestrel rolls 3k2: 10+7 7 7 | 24
Lydia scores another hit, going even deeper this time.
Lydia exclaims, "Ha ha!"
[7thsea] GM rolls 3k3: 2 4 10+9 | 25
[oneshot] Kestrel exclaims, "ARR!"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "bah"
Kestrel sees purple light flash from the wound he makes, but the armor remains infuriatingly intact.
GM says, "The suit's arm plate is cloven nearly in two, and you can see the dark purple mass throbbing beneath, but it manages to continue on."
[oneshot] Lydia says, "somebody walk up and slap it."
GM says, "The two circle markins on its chest glow again; slight sparks jump from the scorched one, but only two orbs appear."
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "This is the first time they've produced two sets, isn't it?"
[oneshot] GM says, "The two spheres just produced joined the one that was already here, if that's what you're asking."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "but this is the first time it produced two rather than three"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "No, I meant that in previous battles, any given set of armor has only produced one set of spheres."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "oh, sorry"
[oneshot] Kestrel says (to Jemmy), "No, I damaged it last time, and it produced only two then."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "I think they've usually just died before round two"
[oneshot] Kestrel nods.
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Are we up to 4 yet?"
[oneshot] GM says, "Oh, yes. Sorry."
[oneshot] GM says, "Unless someone's interrupting or something."
Kestrel makes a definitive stroke to kill the armor.
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "No raises."
[7thsea] Kestrel rolls 6k3: 8 10+9 2 4 7 9 | 36
[7thsea] Kestrel rolls 3k2: 4 8 9 | 17
[7thsea] GM rolls 3k3: 10+5 4 2 | 21
[oneshot] Lydia says, "that's 4 dramatics. ha."
[oneshot] GM says, "Very nice."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "that'll teach it"
Kestrel slices off the helmet, which goes sailing at the spheres, causing them to dodge before the helmet and body disappear entirely.
GM says, "Phase five, Erich."
GM says, "Who happens to still be submerged, and will need an action to stand up (in the water) if he so chooses."
Erich says, "He does so choose."
Erich stands, looking around the room to see where people are and what's going on.
GM says, "Phase seven, the three last spheres try to throw themselves in Kestrel's direction."
[7thsea] GM rolls 5k3: 5 3 7 6 2 | 18
[oneshot] GM says, "(Lydia also in seven.)"
Lydia swishes her sword at the spheres as they swoop on past Kestrel.
Kestrel rolls away, ducking.
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Raise gets more than one, right?"
[oneshot] Lydia asks, "what's the TN on those things?"
[oneshot] GM says, "Right."
[oneshot] GM says, "20"
[7thsea] Lydia rolls 6k3: 10+2 5 1 6 4 10+5 | 33
[oneshot] GM asks, "That was without raise, I assume?"
Lydia hits and destroys one of the three.
[oneshot] Lydia says, "yeah"
GM says, "Phase nine, Erich and the spheres..."
[oneshot] GM says (to Erich), "You can try to attack them from there, but it's two raises to hit one. Or take an action to climb out."
[oneshot] Erich asks, "What's the TN on spheres?"
GM says, "The two turn back to their aggressor, and attack Lydia."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "20"
[oneshot] GM says, "20, base TN."
[7thsea] GM rolls 4k3: 6 9 5 5 | 20
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Arr! Why couldn't they still be attacking me! Sigh."
Erich climbs out of the water a bit unsteadily and scoops up his pistols.
GM says, "One makes contact, adding injury to injury."
GM says, "Six flesh to Lydia."
[7thsea] Lydia asks, "that's 18 flesh then?"
[7thsea] Lydia says, "er no, the last ones gave a dramatic."
[7thsea] Lydia rolls 2k2: 7 3 | 10
[oneshot] GM says, "Right."
GM says (to Jemmy), "Same thing I said to Erich."
[oneshot] Jemmy asks (of GM), "can I use my bullwhip to hit them from here?"
[oneshot] GM says, "That works. Only one raise required, then."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "ok"
Jemmy swings his bullwhip, spraying water everywhere.
[7thsea] Jemmy rolls 6k3: 8 5 5 7 9 7 | 24
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "dang"
Jemmy watches the sphere dart out of the way, just in time.
GM says, "The crack of the whip strikes the air beside the last sphere, knocking it south through the open doorway."
Erich exclaims (at sphere), "Fly! Fly and find the other group!"
[oneshot] Jemmy says (to Erich), "hee hee"
GM says, "As you finally find a moment to relax after that exhausting ordeal, you realize that all of you are seriously injured, some (Erich and Jemmy), worse than others."
Erich puts down his pistols and picks up his pants.
Jemmy stands there, dripping wet, arms and back covered with electrical burns.
Kestrel darts into the south room to follow.
Jemmy exclaims, "that was great!"
Lydia says, "Well, there's still that other passage underwater."
[7thsea] Kestrel rolls 6k3: 9 5 7 10+5 6 6 | 31
Kestrel stalks back. "There, finished it off."
Kestrel looks at the red water flowing north. "Now that's just disturbing."
Kestrel says, "But, hmm, it could be informative..."
Erich repants himself and sits.
Erich says, "I think"
Kestrel watches the water coming from the south to see if any of *it* is red.
Erich says, "I think I shall rest for a moment."
GM says (to Kestrel), "It doesn't appear to be."
[oneshot] Jemmy asks, "ok, so onwards to the door?"
Erich says (to Lydia), "the other passage was barred."
Lydia says, "Oh. Huh."
GM says, "Erich's side is still bleeding somewhat, although the cold water did help."
Kestrel patches up Erich as best he can.
Lydia says, "I wonder if those others would be more willing to share their doctor than their artifacts."
Kestrel says, "I think we have some cloths in here somewhere."
Erich says, "my thanks"
Erich says, "I see we all took a beating this time."
Lydia bandages up her own shoulder where the suit first drew blood.
Kestrel asks, "Well, we have all three ceramic tiles. I think that mosaic in the first room indicates how to use them. The question now is: Do we go now, quickly, or do we rest overnight outside to recover?"
Jemmy exclaims, "I don't trust Arthur one bit!"
Kestrel says, "I have no idea what those funky colors were in the north part of the triangle on the second mosaic."
Kestrel says (to Jemmy), "Good point."
Erich says, "Trusting in Arthur seems a bad idea."
Erich stands, flexing his side experimentally.
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "yeah, admittedly, we're in trouble if there is a fight waiting in the last room"
[oneshot] Erich says, "That's what >UNDO is for."
Kestrel says, "What about this: We open the last door, but have someone waiting near the south door to shut it in an emergency."
[oneshot] GM says, "And note also, you will need a physician's help and a night's rest to actually heal up your dramatics."
Kestrel says, "Er, I mean: to *open* it in an emergency, re-closing the north door."
Jemmy exclaims, "good idea!"
[oneshot] Jemmy says (to Erich), "hee hee"
Kestrel asks (of Jemmy,Erich), "Are either of you up for a quick exploration of that south passageway? Since you're, like, already wet?"
Kestrel says, "If not, I can certainly do so."
[oneshot] Erich asks, "Which south passageway is this?"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Underwater."
[oneshot] Jemmy asks, "south end of the moat, you mean?"
[oneshot] Erich asks, "You mean the one south from the moat, as opposed to north where I found the piece?"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "er, wait, the moat runs east-west, I mean."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "There are underwater passages to the north and south. The north one was where we found the last ceramic tile."
[oneshot] Erich says, "Right. And the south one is barred."
[oneshot] Erich says, "I don't think I got the chance to report that before the armors appeared."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "From the transcript, you said, "And now to explore to the south." and then there was a whump and the armor appeared."
[oneshot] Kestrel asks (of GM), "Have we explored south?"
[oneshot] Erich asks, "Oh?"
[oneshot] Erich says, "Hm hrm."
[oneshot] Erich says, "I cannot argue against the transcript."
[oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "Yes."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Could have been a whisper."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "And it was just barred? OK, I was hoping for the black marbles ;-) But hey."
[oneshot] GM transcripts. "'there is still south to explore.'. Later, 'Erich breathes in again and down he goes.'. Later, 'GM says, "You hear a... zhrwooomph noise... and three figures in violet armour appear on the red tile."'. Then 'Erich scrambles to the handholds and out of the moat, scrabbling for his sword'.
[oneshot] Erich says, "Aha. I remember now."
Kestrel asks (of Erich), "Unless you've already seen to the south?"
[oneshot] Erich says, "I went down, explored, found the bars, and came back."
Erich asks, "eh?"
Kestrel asks (of Erich), "Have you been down the south passageway?"
[oneshot] GM says, "There is an assumed sticking-his-head-up-again after the zhroomph but before the scrabbling, which was probably whispered but not spoken."
Erich says, "Ah, yes. The appearance of the armor distracted me."
Erich says, "the south passage is barred a short ways into it."
Kestrel says, "Drat."
Kestrel says, "Well, then onward we go."
Lydia asks, "What colors are those pieces?"
GM says, "Most of the red in the water has drained through, leaving it looking almost clear again."
Jemmy goes on to the room with the Y-door.
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "the pieces are yellow/green/black"
Erich redresses completely, picking up his sword, his pistols, and other assorted knick-knacks.
GM asks (of Jemmy), "You go south first, and since the west door is shut, are you waiting o be followed before opening it?"
Kestrel says (to Lydia), "The pieces are black, green, and yellow. I can only assume they correspond to the mosaic with the night bit (top), green trees (lower left), and sun (lower right)."
Jemmy says, "yellow and green and black, I think"
[oneshot] Jemmy says (to GM), "yeah, I'm not going too far ahead"
Lydia says, "Right."
Kestrel follows as he talks, retrieving his arrows and sheathing his knife.
GM says, "When you open the west door (leading to the entry room), you see Arthur and some of his minions lounging about."
Kestrel asks (of Arthur), "Any luck?"
GM says, "Arthur is sitting comfortably on... something, by the west wall. A couple members of his retinue are also carrying some large object."
Jemmy drips water silently, glaring at Arthur.
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "(whuh-oh)"
Arthur looks up. "Ah, welcome back. Looks like you had a bit of a tumble there. I hope the pearl's alright?"
Kestrel says, "It's fine."
Kestrel opens the north door, goes through.
GM says, "As the two ferriers set down their burden, you notice that's it's a triangular piece of stone, about a yard on a side, and a few inches thick."
Erich says, "in one piece, unlike the armor that came after us"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "hrr"
[oneshot] Jemmy asks, "like the door?"
Arthur asks (of Kestrel), "Back in there? You've come up with some idea about that door, or did you just find several pounds of gunpowder somewhere?"
Arthur grins.
Erich says, "i have been working out"
Erich follows Kestrel.
[oneshot] GM asks (of Jemmy), "You mean the triangular stone? No. Are you looking more closely?"
Kestrel . o O ( Dude, they tore up the *floor*. )
[oneshot] Jemmy says (to GM), "if I can keep up with the others while doing so"
Lydia tries to see on what Arthur is sitting.
[oneshot] GM says (to Jemmy), "You'd have to stop to look at it to get a better view."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "oh, but right, it's the hole in the floor in that room"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "I keep going, then"
GM says (to Lydia), "It's a stack of... four, it would appear, stones much like the one the others just set down."
Kestrel shakes his head sadly.
Lydia shakes her head visibly, then follows the others.
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Is there another door out of this room?"
GM says, "A few moments after you enter, the door closes behind you again."
[oneshot] GM asks (of Kestrel), "Which one?"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "The one we're now in."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Besides the north one."
Lydia says, "We probably ought to station one person at each door."
[oneshot] GM says, "Door south, you entered by, just closed. Door north, closed, as yet unopenable. That's all so far."
Kestrel asks, "Well, I'm the archer. Shall I wait by this south door?"
[oneshot] GM says, "Also, eight short columns, a couple of which are knocked over."
Jemmy says, "that sounds good"
Jemmy asks, "where are the clay pieces?"
Kestrel nods, hands over the ceramic tiles he's carrying.
Kestrel Points as he speaks, "Black" (up), "Green" (down left),
Kestrel says, "and Yellow." (down right)"
Kestrel says, "Points towards the center, I assume."
Erich draws and cocks his pistols. "I am ready."
Jemmy says, "alrighty"
Kestrel pulls out and nocks his bow.
Jemmy sticks the black piece in.
GM says, "It fits as you expected, but since it's the top piece, it doesn't stay in place, having nothing below to hold it up."
Jemmy says, "oh er"
Kestrel grins.
Jemmy takes it out and sticks the green piece in.
Lydia asks, "Do you suppose we'll be able to get these back?"
Jemmy says, "oh dear, Billings will be upset if I don't"
GM says, "The green piece fits in place."
Kestrel says, "If we brave those rooms again, I'd wager."
Jemmy sticks the yellow piece in.
Erich says, "I will let billings brave the armor and retrieve it if he wishes."
Lydia says, "Well, here, give me the other piece."
Kestrel says, "Not that we'll be able to re-travel that SW room, now that it's been destroyed."
GM says, "The yellow piece also fits in place."
Jemmy sticks the black piece in.
Jemmy crosses his fingers.
GM says, "It takes a moments effort, beause the pieces fit together so perfectly there's hardly a seam, but you manage to slip it in place."
GM says, "You hear a low hum from beneath you, and the three pieces glow softly."
GM says, "The hum rises up the scale, from somewhere below middle C to somewhere above high C."
GM says, "The door shudders slightly, and then slides open."
Kestrel can't help but grin.
Lydia says, "Oh. Wow."
Jemmy says, "oooh"
Kestrel says, "Keep that door open. We don't want Arthur & co. coming in now."
GM says, "After a few moments, it closes again. You hear something behind you."
Jemmy blinks.
Arthur asks, "What's this noise, I hear? Found something?"
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Hey, don't I get initiative for catching that first?"
[oneshot] Arthur says (to Kestrel), "Oh, forgot you were looking."
[oneshot] Arthur says (to Kestrel), "But you see your door open the same time they see theirs close."
Lydia says, "No, just singing. Please go away."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "No, I said, "keep it open" immediately, before you said it closed."
[oneshot] Jemmy asks, "do we see anything through the door before it closes?"
[oneshot] Arthur says (to Kestrel), "Oh, well. If someone had immediately said that they grabbed the door, then I'd have given them the contested brawn, but they didn't."
[oneshot] Arthur says, "(Immediately: after I said it closed)"
[oneshot] Kestrel says (to Arthur), "You suck."
Jemmy exclaims (at Arthur), "stay out, Arthur!"
Arthur asks, "Singing?"
Kestrel turns his nocked bow at Arthur.
Kestrel says, "Get. Out."
[oneshot] Arthur says (to Jemmy), "You saw something sitting in the middle of the room, and some rubble beyond."
Arthur looks at Kestrel, swallows.
Kestrel stares.
Arthur says, "Hey, uh, this is just a gentleman's wager, isn't it..."
Arthur puts up his hands; he's unarmed. He associates behind him haven't come to the door yet.
Kestrel says, "And close the door behind you."
Erich says, "he is a very impatient man; I'd do as he says"
[oneshot] Arthur says, "This is a good time for Kestrel to try Intimidation. Free raise for the bow."
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "OK, what do I roll?"
[oneshot] Arthur says, "Resolve+1kResolve."
[oneshot] Arthur says, "Or, rather, straight Resolve, add five. Sorry."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "OK. I get a free raise if it works, too."
[7thsea] Kestrel rolls 2k2: 7 1 | 8
[7thsea] Arthur rolls 2k2: 9 10+3 | 22
[oneshot] Jemmy says (to Erich), "*you* talk to him"
Arthur says, "Calm down, now. There's no need to get violent here..."
Erich says, "I am more patient."
GM says, "Arthur's friends step up behind him."
Kestrel says, "Just get out. We're busy."
Erich says, "however, when I do lose patience, I tend to take someone's arms to keep as consolation."
Erich walks closer to Arthur.
Kestrel says, "You've already destroyed enough of this place."
Arthur says (to Erich), "If you just ask your friend to set down that bow, then we can speak calmly..."
Erich says, "and yours look like they'd fill a nice gap in my collection."
Lydia takes a quick glance to the north door while the other party's view is blocked by a large Eisen.
[oneshot] Arthur says, "Notice, by the way, that the high hum and gentle glowing did not stop when the door slid abruptly shut."
Erich jerks his thumb towards Kestrel. "He's kind enough to give me arrows as pins for mounting them."
[oneshot] Arthur says (to Erich), "And you can do Intimidation too, if you like."
[oneshot] Kestrel exclaims (at Erich), "Roll your resolve!"
[7thsea] Erich rolls 2k2: 6 4 | 10
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "(hrm, yeah, we'd better be able to open that door again :)"
[7thsea] Arthur rolls 2k2: 9 2 | 11
[oneshot] Erich says, "Sigh."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "(no raise for erich's pistols, hunh?)"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Do none of us have a 3 resolve? Arr."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "*I* have a 3 resolve"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Right, like he's gonna listen to you ;-)"
Arthur sighs. "Fine, if you wish to resolve this like common thugs, so be it."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "well, true :)"
Arthur steps back to give Derec and Miranda room; they draw their weapons.
[oneshot] Arthur says, "Unless you have another idea, you can roll Initiative now."
Lydia looks to see what would happen if the south door closed now, and looks back to the Y-slot again.
[oneshot] Erich asks, "Any chance Lydia can use her feminine wiles to calm the situation down?"
[oneshot] Jemmy asks, "who's actually in the doorway?"
[oneshot] Gm says (to Lydia), "Thee pieces in place, glowing. High-pitched hum from somewhere unseen."
[oneshot] Gm asks (of Erich), "Maybe... how is her Seduction skill?"
[oneshot] Gm says (to Jemmy), "At this exact second? No one. However, this second is about to end any second."
[oneshot] Jemmy asks, "so the north door could in theory be opened again?"
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Who's in the room, and who's talking from the next room?"
[oneshot] GM says, "I do not comment."
Kestrel catches Lydia's eye, nods at the door.
[oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "As of the moment Arthur stepped back to draw his weapon, all of you are in your room; the three of them are in their room."
Lydia touches the glowing pieces, and tries pushing them, then sliding the door.
GM says, "As you touch them, the door opens again, and the toher slams shut in Arthur's face."
Kestrel exclaims, "Now keep that open!"
Jemmy grabs the door to hold it open.
GM says, "Brawn."
Lydia stand in the north doorway and puts a hand on the door's side, then looks to the north room.
[7thsea] Lydia rolls 2k2: 2 1 | 3
Erich sprints to the door to help Lydia.
GM says, "(Just Lydia and Jemmy this time)"
[7thsea] Jemmy rolls 2k2: 8 8 | 16
[7thsea] GM rolls 2k2: 3 10+4 | 17
Kestrel keeps his arrow trained on the spot where the door would open.
Lydia says, "Ack! They're pulling it."
GM says, "It's moving, slightly..."
Jemmy exclaims, "grnf! erf!"
[oneshot] Erich says, "sprint sprint spring"
[oneshot] GM says, "Brawn again, including Erich this time."
[7thsea] Jemmy rolls 2k2: 10+7 3 | 20
[7thsea] Erich rolls 4k4: 1 4 8 1 | 14
Lydia repositions herself to put more weight on the door.
[7thsea] Lydia rolls 2k2: 6 8 | 14
[oneshot] Erich exclaims, "Hey! Beaten by Jemmy!"
[oneshot] Jemmy asks (of Erich), "what, I gotta do all the heavy lifting here?"
[oneshot] Erich exclaims, "and tied by Lydia!"
[7thsea] GM rolls 6k6: 4 2 10+6 10+1 9 6 | 48
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "yarr"
[oneshot] Erich says, "I need to eat my wheeties."
[oneshot] GM says, "It's holding, but just *barely*..."
Kestrel rolls a broken pedestal towards the door.
Lydia says, "umph..."
Jemmy asks (of Kestrel), "can you prop open that door with a pedestal?"
GM says, "The south door is open a crack, and it's taking everything you have to hold it..."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "(er, this door)"
Kestrel says, "Hold it for just a second more..."
GM says (to Kestrel), "OK. It's just a bit too long to fit in the door longwise, but ccn be stuck through the door."
Kestrel lifts it to fit it in diagonally.
GM says, "It requires Erich, Jemmy, and Lydia to shift out of your way -- one more combined brawn from those three..."
[7thsea] Jemmy rolls 2k2: 4 1 | 5
[7thsea] Lydia rolls 2k2: 10+3 7 | 20
[7thsea] Erich rolls 4k4: 2 10+1 8 5 | 26
[7thsea] GM rolls 6k6: 8 8 7 6 10+8 9 | 56
Kestrel fumbles the pedestal, grabs and pushes the door himself as it closes.
[7thsea] Kestrel rolls 2k2: 8 4 | 12
GM says, "It's ... pushing ... open ... but Kestrel stops it in time."
Kestrel says, "Set? Once more..."
Kestrel lifts the pedestal once more.
Arthur asks, "Curse you! What do you have in there that's SO FILTHY IMPORTANT?"
Erich exclaims, "MUFFINS!"
Jemmy asks (of Erich), "where? where?"
Lydia says, "(quietly) that's -erfmf- a good question"
Kestrel exclaims (at Jemmy), "Keep the door open!"
Erich says (to Jemmy), "nowhere. I am trying to bate him."
Jemmy pushes more.
[oneshot] GM says, "OK, if Kestrel's trying again, another Brawn."
Jemmy says (to Erich), "well, it'd work on me"
[7thsea] Jemmy rolls 2k2: 10+2 2 | 14
Kestrel re-lifts the pedestal.
[7thsea] Erich rolls 4k4: 10+9 9 6 4 | 38
[7thsea] Lydia rolls 2k2: 3 10+4 | 17
[7thsea] GM rolls 6k6: 6 2 9 10+6 3 8 | 44
[oneshot] Erich says, "There's my brawn kicking in."
[oneshot] Lydia says, "Jemmy should get a Muffin Motivation bonus."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "hee hee"
[oneshot] Erich says, "yay"
[oneshot] Jemmy says (to Lydia), "I start glowing and get to eat the ghosts"
GM says, "It's in! Wedged cornerwise, and getting tighter the harder they push."
Kestrel exclaims, "Phew!"
Lydia says, "whew"
GM says, "Now that that's past, you notice the next room..."
Erich says, "uf. my side."
Lydia leans an elbow on the top corner of the pedestal, and looks around to the north.
Kestrel (under his breath) "I'll stay here with this in case they reverse tactics and try to close the door and re-open it."
GM says, "Triangular, and pointing north. There's a raised shelf, a
pedestal, in the middle of the room, about the same height as the 'desk' you saw earlier."
Kestrel (loudly) "Keep holding it! We're wearing them out!"
Lydia grins at Kestrel.
Erich exclaims, "oof! oh! ow!"
GM says, "The walls are bare, but the north corner of the room has fallen to rubble, and it looks like it might be possible to clear a path that way."
Kestrel looks to see if he can remove the ceramic tiles.
[oneshot] Jemmy asks, "anything on the pedestal?"
GM says, "On the pedestal is a large round bowl, about a foot and a half across and maybe eaight inches deep. It's made of black metal, possibly lead, and strange markings are carved all over the outside in silver curls."
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Wait, desk?"
Jemmy says, "ooh"
GM says (to Kestrel), "Since the door is pushed open all the way, they cannot be reached."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "desk was in the nw room"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "ie, same one with the mosaic"
[oneshot] GM says, "From the room where you found the stringed bowl and the second mosaic."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Hmm, OK."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "I seem to recall the bowl was on it"
[oneshot] GM says, "I.e. it's a good table height."
Jemmy asks, "maybe this is some kind of super bowl?"
Jemmy walks over and looks closer.
[Crows-Nest] Lydia says, "rimshot"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "(is this bowl stringed?)"
[Crows-Nest] Jemmy says, "hee hee"
GM says (to Jemmy), "Inside, you see a lump of black crystal."
Jemmy says, "ooh"
[oneshot] GM says (to Jemmy), "No."
Erich moves over by Jemmy.
Lydia looks at the bowl's markings, hoping to see some of the familiar tone-symbols.
Kestrel exclaims, "Keep holding! They can't last forever!"
GM says, "The crystal looks the size to fit in a grown man's hand. Several inches across. Roundish, but crudely faceted."
[oneshot] (from Erich) Kestrel exclaims, "O no I have to go to the bathroom, and me a big plump juicy kid and all!"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "hee hee"
GM says (to Lydia), "You don't recognize anything there."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "something under the door is drooling"
Jemmy reaches out to touch the crystal.
GM says (to Jemmy), "It's cool to the touch, and doesn't move."
Kestrel says (to Lydia), "(lowly) "No symbols from the SW room, either?""
[oneshot] Kestrel exclaims, "Yay!"
Jemmy asks, "what could this be?"
[oneshot] GM asks, "Anyone else looking at the markings?"
Jemmy leaves it in the bowl.
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "I am"
[oneshot] Kestrel asks (of GM), "Are they still pushing the door, or have they given up?"
GM says (to Jemmy), "Yes, actually, there are markings from the stringed bowl, woven subtly into the pattern... hard to notice, but some of these intricate curls are definitely familiar."
Kestrel asks (of Erich), "(quietly) You figured out some of those other runes, didn't you?"
[oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "You can't tell. The pedestal's wedged in there well enough that nothing is moving much now."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "hmm"
Erich says, "Some."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "so one idea is to try and string and play this bowl"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "that might be difficult and/or stupid"
Kestrel experimentally pushes the door open, just a bit.
Erich peers closely at the curls.
Jemmy exclaims (at Lydia), "look, more runes to copy!"
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Are there holes for stringing?"
GM says (to Erich), "Aha. You've seen something like that before, long ago."
[oneshot] GM says, "No."
GM says (to Erich), "It was an illustration in the back of a book titled 'Inexplicable Mysteries of the Ancients'."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "(er, ok, that'd be difficult then)"
Lydia says, "Oh, the journal. I haven't used it in a while."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Heh."
Erich says, "Ah, good."
GM says (to Kestrel), "The far south one? Won't budge. It's like there's something jammed into someplace. A pedestal or something."
Jemmy exclaims, "Billings'll love to see these notes!"
Lydia gets it out and begins sketching the bowl.
Erich says, "These runes are inexplicable."
Jemmy, meanwhile, drifts over to the north corner and investigates there.
[oneshot] Kestrel says (to GM), "No, the one that's already (I thought) mostly or (possibly in reality) all the way open."
Lydia says, "These curls are hard to draw though."
GM says (to Erich), "Although it's quite possible that recognizing the
connection with the other runes could reduce explicating time by years."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "i.e. I thought the north door was a little bit closed."
[oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "Oh, that's all the way open."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "OK, cool."
[oneshot] GM says, "Wedging the pedestal in there pretty much did it."
Kestrel examines the pattern, tries to see if it makes any musical sense.
Erich says, "billings will be most interested in this"
Lydia says, "I wonder if sounding some tones would do anything to the bowl or crystal."
GM says (to Jemmy), "There are a lot of rocks there, piled up haphazardly, as though by natural phenomenon."
Kestrel says (to Lydia), "Exactly my thought."
Jemmy starts cautiously moving one or two or three.
GM says, "There are more under the first two or three; clearing them all out would probably take either a group effort, or a bit of time to do alone."
Lydia looks around at the floor. Didn't the mosaic show some colored triangles here?
Erich goes to help Jemmy;
Erich says, "Here. I have no musical talents."
GM says (to Lydia), "The floor is plain, with no brightly colored tiles."
Erich says, "Rock-moving talents I have plenty of."
Kestrel in particular looks for 'half-tones', i.e. a backwards P or a backwards P-b.
Jemmy exclaims, "(relatively quietly) we might have to sneak out this way .. I knew that Arthur couldn't be trusted!"
Kestrel says (to Jemmy), "We might also call for reinforcements with the bowl."
Jemmy exclaims, "I don't think we have enough food .. I do have some muffins, though!"
Jemmy gets a stricken expression on his face. "I hope they didn't get wet!"
[oneshot] Kestrel asks (of GM), "Anything from my musical analysis?"
GM says (to Kestrel), "Mmm. All of the symbols from the bowl can be found in there somewhere, if you look hard enough, most of them several times over -- although it's hard to tell how much is genuine, and how much you're just reading into random curly patterns."
Erich says, "we won't have to chew them as much, then."
Kestrel says (to Jemmy), "No, you put down your backpack before jumping across."
GM says (to Erich, Jemmy), "You start to clear a bit away -- it looks like it might be possible to clear a passage, even."
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "What about the half-tones?"
Jemmy says (to Kestrel), "oh yeah"
Jemmy exclaims, "whew!"
Lydia gets out the stringed bowl, and plucks the sixth note.
Jemmy goes back to moving rocks.
Kestrel hands the bowl to Lydia.
[oneshot] GM asks (of Kestrel), "Do you mean things like the first and third runes from the bowl?"
GM says (to Lydia), "No particular effect from that particular note."
[oneshot] GM asks, "Or something else?"
[oneshot] Kestrel says (to GM), "No, like the one implied that would be between the first and second runes. If it was binary, like."
[oneshot] GM asks, "Oh, symbols that *aren't* on the bowl?"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "If it was binary, the symbols would number 1 3 4 5 11 12 14 15."
Lydia tries the other notes, starting with the lowest.
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "So I look for 2 6 7 8 9 10 13 16."
[oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "You can manage to find them too, but as I said, it's hard to tell which are genuine and which are fanciful interpretation."
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Can I try to distinguish?"
GM asks (of Lydia), "There is, of course, the usual dischordant moment. But... was there a slight glow somewhere in there?"
GM says (to Kestrel), "Roll Wits."
Lydia exclaims, "Hey!"
[7thsea] Kestrel rolls 3k3: 8 9 6 | 23
GM says (to Lydia), "Or maybe it was a trick of your eyes."
Lydia starts again from the bottom of the scale, going slower and watching more carefully.
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Anything from my 23?"
[oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "The symbols you describe are definitely much rarer, and seem to be less clear than the others. More likely than not to be fanciful."
GM says (to Lydia), "No, you don't notice anything this time."
Jemmy moves more stones, whistling as he works.
Lydia says, "Hm."
GM says, "By this point, there's an open passage near the top of the pile, although it'd be a tight squeeze to fit through it."
Erich moves more rocks.
Lydia tries to recreate the first glow, playing the sixth note, then the others at the original speed.
Kestrel, assuming that the non-bowl patterns are fanciful, tries to separate out the real symbols from the fanciful ones.
GM says (to Lydia), "Mmm. Maybe. A slight throbbing at some point? It's still very dim, if it is there."
Jemmy sticks his head into the opening. Dark? Light?
Kestrel asks (of Lydia), "Are you seeing something?"
Lydia says, "I think so. A glowing, or throbbing, or something. Or maybe not."
Kestrel asks (of Lydia), "From where?"
GM says (to Kestrel), "Mmm. Yeah, you can pick out some that are very probably real and some that are very probably not... but there are lots that are maybe real and maybe not..."
Kestrel finds a clump of probably-real runes.
Kestrel says (to Lydia), ""Here, try playing these ones.""
GM says (to Kestrel), "And that doesn't tell you the meaning of the bits of the pattern that *aren't* recognizable runes."
Lydia says, "There's this one note that's off..."
Kestrel says (to Lydia), "Just re-play the discordant one."
GM says (to Erich, Jemmy), "There, that should be big enough for most of you, although Erich might have to squeeze."
Lydia plucks the fifth string.
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Is the glowing coming from the room, the bowl, the crystal... ?"
GM says (to Kestrel, Lydia), "Not that 'the discordant one' isn't always the same string; it's the fifth note you hit playing from the bottom, but that string doesn't do anything nasty by itself."
[oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "Sorry, crystal."
[oneshot] GM says, "Not noticable if you're focussed on the markings."
[oneshot] Kestrel says (to GM), "Right. So if you are trying to play a scale, just re-play the one that is discordant."
Jemmy puts his lantern into the hole and looks around a bit.
Erich comes over by Kestrel and Lydia. "We've moved rocks. Any luck with the bowl?"
Lydia asks, "Well, hm. It acts funny, anyway. Anyone want to try singing instead?"
[oneshot] GM asks, "Also, did she play the bit you told her to?"
[oneshot] GM says, "Or I should ask lydia, I guess :)"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Not yet, I think."
Lydia tries strumming a finger across all eight strings.
GM says (to Jemmy), "There's cave out there. Doesn't look like anything built by hand -- just natural formations."
GM says (to Lydia), "You do notice that dim flicker."
Kestrel says (to Lydia), "Try playing these notes (points to the clump of notes he's identified)."
Lydia says, "Hm."
Jemmy says, "hrm"
GM says (to Jemmy), "But it's definitely another exit from this room that doesn't lead to Arthur."
Jemmy says, "there's a cave out there"
Jemmy says, "but I don't know how far it leads"
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Also, did you answer Lydia's question about the floor?"
Jemmy says, "I think we should risk it, though"
Kestrel nods.
[oneshot] GM says, "Floor is tiled grey, nothing special."
Lydia looks carefully at that part of the bowl, and tries to play the notes there.
Kestrel watches the crystal as she does.
GM asks (of Lydia), "Any musician skill?"
Lydia says, "nope"
GM says (to Lydia), "Panache - 1 unkept."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "'unkept' heh."
[oneshot] Lydia asks, "so that's 1k2 or something?"
[oneshot] GM says, "Right."
[7thsea] Lydia rolls 1k2: 4 | 4
Kestrel frowns.
Kestrel asks, "Can I try?"
Lydia says, "oh, I played all the wrong ones."
GM says, "Hmm. Maybe more dull flickering, but no more pronounced than before."
Lydia says, "Okay, here."
Kestrel hums softly as he plays.
[oneshot] GM says, "No more than two tries, each of you..."
Jemmy scrambles through the hole and casts his lantern around some.
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "I have sing 2, as part of 'performer'."
Kestrel works out the tune in his head before he plays.
[oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "Mmm. OK. Panache + Singing."
[7thsea] Kestrel rolls 5k3: 1 8 9 6 1 | 23
Lydia says, "Try to do it fast, too..."
GM says (to Jemmy), "You have a bit of trouble on the loose rocks, left over from whatever rockfall broke open the wall, but manage to find a spot with fair footing."
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "There's nothing else in this room, right?"
Jemmy says, "whoooaaah--oof"
GM says, "It definitely flickers more this time. It's still not particularly bright or rhythmic, but you're at least certain you saw it this time."
[oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "Right."
Jemmy casts the lantern around a bit, looking for tracks or anything.
Kestrel nods.
Kestrel says, "OK, we gotta get out of here, but we're definitely on to something."
GM says (to Jemmy), "The cave floor slants upward to the north, downward to the east, and sharply downward back south where you just came from."
Erich says, "pity we are leaving the patients in the asylum."
Jemmy slowly walks north.
Erich says, "we should remove the pedestal and leave arthur and the others wondering about us."
Lydia says, "I take it all are in favor of abandoning the whistles and tile pieces."
Kestrel says (to Erich), "No, they'll be able to open the door again, if we do."
GM says (to Jemmy), "You think you see something up ahead."
Kestrel says, "We can't retrieve the ceramic tiles."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "and the black marbles, and whatever they grabbed"
Erich says, "aha"
Lydia says, "I should have ... oh well."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "maybe an equivalent of the goblet"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "but I'm still in favor :)"
[oneshot] Erich says, "The bowl is the main prize."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "yeah, I think so"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "I agree."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "And they'll just fight us to get it, so let's press on."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "actually, I think billings will be most pleased with lydia's notebook"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Heh."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "since she also copied down, eg, the floor in the triangle room, and the stuff around the entrance doorway and stuff"
[oneshot] Erich exclaims, "hey! and my translations!"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Also, bet's still on, we can just resolve it later."
[oneshot] Jemmy says (to Erich), "my, yes"
[oneshot] Jemmy says (to Kestrel), "har, good point"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "nobody said we had to stay on the premises"
Lydia says, "There's that 'wager', but I'll believe Jemmy when he refrains, 'Don't trust him!'"
[oneshot] Erich says (to Kestrel), "jemmy has the biggest resolve, so."
Jemmy asks (of GM), "what do I see up ahead?"
Kestrel wraps a cloth around the bowl so the crystal doesn't fall out, carries it carefully and follows Jemmy.
GM says (to Jemmy), "It looked -- it looked like a glitter, but when you shone your lamp up ahead to get a better view, you couldn't make it out again..."
Lydia looks around the room as though checking it before following.
Jemmy steps ahead a bit more.
GM says (to Kestrel), "The crystal doesn't shift position when you pick up the bowl."
Erich climbs on in through the opening.
Kestrel shakes the bowl experimentally.
Kestrel (just a bit)
GM says (to Jemmy), "It was either a ways ahead, or just really tiny."
Jemmy exclaims (at others), "I think I see something up ahead!"
GM says (to Kestrel), "The crystal doesn't move. It seems to be set in the bowl."
Kestrel says, "Huh."
Kestrel shrugs, follows.
Kestrel still puts the cloth over it, for good measure.
GM says (to Jemmy), "The closer you get, the less you can see it."
Jemmy glances back to see if everyone's following, then keeps going.
Jemmy says, "hrm"
Erich says, "we're behind you"
Jemmy tries, experimentally, covering his lantern.
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "(or closing the shield on it or whatever, so it's dark)"
GM exclaims (at Jemmy), "Ah! A light, up ahead!"
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Was the cave 2-way from where we entered?"
Jemmy says, "ooh"
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Or did it end at the opening to the tomb?"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "s/tomb/ruin"
[oneshot] GM says, "Yes. Up to the north, down to the east, steep down back the way you came."
[oneshot] GM says, "Jemmy went north."
GM says (to Jemmy), "It's a shaft of light, falling down from somewhere up above..."
Jemmy alternates between opening his lantern so he can see and closing the lantern to recheck the position of the light.
Kestrel looks to see if this cave is used by animals.
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Tracking plus... resolve? wits?"
Erich says (to Jemmy), "I might could lift you up."
GM says (to Jemmy), "You reach the end of the north passage after a couple minutes. The wall in front of you is rough and has plenty of foot and handholds. And directly above you is a aptch of what looks like daylight."
[oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "Wits."
[7thsea] Kestrel rolls 4k3: 8 2 10+4 5 | 27
Erich says, "or we could use those ever-so-convenient handholds"
[oneshot] Jemmy says (to Erich), "hee hee"
[oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "Signs of small animals. Tracks seem to go both ways, but not back south."
Kestrel says, "I don't see any signs of large animals"
Kestrel asks, "Do we want to check that east passage?"
Lydia says, "That's good."
Kestrel says, "I think I hear water that way."
Erich says, "I would like to."
Jemmy says, "I'll look up here and see where we are"
Kestrel says (to Jemmy), "Go for it."
Jemmy scrambles up.
[7thsea] Jemmy rolls 5k3: 4 6 1 10+7 2 | 27
Erich asks (of Kestrel), "shall we?"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "(climbing, if I need it)"
GM says (to Kestrel), "A short distance down that direction leads you to an underground stream, running north and south; the ceiling lowers here, so you have to crawl."
GM says (to Jemmy), "It takes a few minutes, although it's an easy climb."
Lydia stays put to make sure Jemmy is safe.
Erich asks (of GM), "not too small for me, I take it?"
GM says (to Kestrel), "Travelling any further this way would require getting in the stream."
Erich says, "water."
Erich says, "I am beginning to hate it."
GM says (to Erich), "No, but it's not too comfortable."
Kestrel says, "Maybe this feeds the moat we found."
GM says (to Jemmy), "You spot of light gets larger as you proceed, and bluer. You notice clouds."
Kestrel tests it to see if it's the same temperature.
Jemmy says, "ooh, pretty"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "(wits, I guess)"
[7thsea] Kestrel rolls 3k3: 2 9 6 | 17
Lydia asks (of Jemmy), "what?"
GM says (to Kestrel), "It's underground-stream cold. Any more accuracy wouold require equipment."
[oneshot] Kestrel asks (of GM), "But similar to inside?"
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Or colder/warmer?"
GM says (to Jemmy), "You come out of a crevice concealed between several rocks, on a grassy hillside."
Erich says, "here. I had a lot of experience in that other water."
Jemmy exclaims (at Lydia), "I see sky!"
Erich dips his hands in the water.
Lydia sighs.
Kestrel grins.
[7thsea] Erich rolls 3k3: 2 6 9 | 17
Jemmy hushes up long enough to look/listen for people nearby.
[oneshot] GM says (to Kestrel), "Sure. Both sources of water were teh temperature you'd expect from an underground stream in the spring."
[oneshot] Kestrel says (to Erich), "Same *numbers* even ;-)"
[oneshot] Erich says, "ayup."
GM says (to Jemmy), "You hear birds. The hills look vaguely familiar; possibly another part of the same area where you first entered the caves. From the position of the sun, it seems to be early morning."
[oneshot] Jemmy asks (of GM), "but no people?"
GM says, "Right. No visible people."
[oneshot] Erich asks, "or sheep?"
Kestrel asks (of Erich), "I'm not particularly inclined to go further. You?"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "ooh, sheep"
Jemmy climbs down.
Erich says (to Kestrel), "Not really. I'm pleased with what we have."
GM says, "A bush over there is shaped vaguely like a sheep."
Jemmy says (to Lydia), "grass and hills, I think -- I didn't see any of Arthur's pals"
Jemmy exclaims (at Lydia), "and a bush shaped like just a sheep!"
Kestrel says, "Let's head out, then."
Kestrel and Erich re-join the group.
Erich heads back to the main room.
Lydia says, "well -- er, good."
Jemmy repeats his description for the other two.
Kestrel says (to Jemmy&Lydia), ""There's a stream we could try to crawl/wade through, but I'm guessing we've seen the most of this place.""
Lydia asks, "Did you name the bush?"
Jemmy says (to Lydia), ""George""
Erich says, "I've had my fill of swimming in cold streams."
Lydia says, "We could return to the first entrance later. After we rest up a bit."
Lydia asks, "Shall we report to Mr. Billings?"
Kestrel says, "Let's head back to civilization. We can resolve the bet once we're back."
Erich says, "The two of you go first."
Erich says, "I don't think I'll fall, but still."
Kestrel grins.
Kestrel says, "And let's be quiet-like."
Lydia says, "Here I go."
Kestrel shrugs, shimmies up the wall and out the hole.
[oneshot] Lydia asks, "oh, a no-roll climb?"
GM says (to Kestrel), "Ah, sunshine, green grass, fresh air that hasn't been cooped up underground for ages..."
[oneshot] GM says (to Lydia), "Sure."
Kestrel breathes easily, keeps a sharp lookout.
Kestrel tries to get his bearings.
Lydia blinks. "It's morning! But..."
Jemmy says, "early morning"
Erich says, "Good to be outdoors again."
Jemmy says, "we must have been there all night"
Jemmy yawns.
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Did it seem like that much time had passed?"
Lydia yawns. "Oh, suddenly I'm very tired.
[oneshot] GM says, "Hard to judge, without sunshine, but it's certainly reasonable."
[oneshot] Erich says, "Feels like it's been months and months."
[oneshot] Lydia asks, "Or are we in the New World?"
[oneshot] Erich says, "or at least many weeks."
Jemmy looks for where we tethered our horses.
GM asks, "Did you bring horses?"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "er, whoops"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Did we? I forget."
[oneshot] Jemmy asks, "how did we get here? a carriage, then walking?"
[oneshot] GM says, "That was what I remembered, but I could be wrong."
[oneshot] Lydia says, "there was a carriage involved.."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "ok then"
[oneshot] GM says, "Carriage to random small town, walking to cave vaguely nearish town."
Jemmy looks around for where we are, then starts walking back to the town.
[oneshot] Kestrel finds the transcript 'Yeah, short hike to town'.
GM says, "It's not hard to get your bearings from those big mountains just east of you, and by late morning you're back in town."
Kestrel, on the way, calls up billings with an update.
GM says, "You discover your carriage driver at the inn, preparing to head back to Cardican."
Erich says, "good. I could use a long stretch of not walking."
GM says (to Kestrel), "You hear something vaguely like a growling animal."
Kestrel says (to Erich), "Or swimming."
GM says (to Kestrel), "Or maybe carpentry."
Kestrel says, "Er."
Jemmy exclaims (at driver), "hallo!"
Kestrel asks (of Bowl), "Hello?"
Jemmy asks, "remember us?"
Lydia says, "I thought he was supposed to keep someone awake with the bowl."
Kestrel says (to Bowl), "Billings, I hope you have a dog."
Driver asks, "Huh? Hey, good timing. You want a ride back?"
Kestrel exclaims (at bowl), "Nice doggy!"
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Anything?"
Lydia says, "Let's see the local doctor and try again."
Lydia says (to Kestrel), "Er, I think that *was* Billings. Asleep."
Driver says (to Bowl), "'Snrkz... phnrrrk... snk-- humph, ahm, what is, er...'"
Jemmy exclaims (at Driver), "yes indeed!"
[oneshot] Driver says, "Gah. Pretend that made sense."
Jemmy hops into the carriage, then remembers the packages and hops out again to help people load stuff in.
Kestrel says (to Bowl), "Billings? We're out! And we're heading back now."
Jemmy exclaims (at Bowl), "hi!"
Billings says, "Hrm? Oh. Good. Good. And bring me some toast... snrrr..."
Driver stares. "What the...?"
Kestrel chuckles, plucks a string to cut the connection.
Erich says (to Bowl), "and we've done such a good job you'll be happy to pay us more, I'm sure."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "(I was doing that on the hike, but hey)"
Lydia says (to Driver), "You heard the bowl. Let's find some toast."
[oneshot] Driver says (to Kestrel), "Well, he didn't wake up until you got here :)"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Heh. I was being discreet, then--I really wouldn't have done that in front of the driver)"
[oneshot] GM says, "OK, then pretend that you just imagined that part."
Jemmy re-hops into the carriage after having seen the bowls and stuff safely packed in.
[oneshot] Lydia exclaims, "And then, a giant sheep came to sing to us!"
[oneshot] Jemmy asks, "so what did we end up with? bowl, fancy bowl, goblet, white marble?"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Singing songs of muffins."
GM says, "To shorten the matter, you find some toast, get everything loaded, and make it back to Cardican by afternoon sometime. At this point Billings is conscious and remembers nothing of the earlier conversation, but is pleased about the toast. Said it's cold, though."
[oneshot] Lydia says, "er, not white marble."
[oneshot] Kestrel says (to Lydia), "Right."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "did we trade marbles? I don't remember how that whole thing came out"
[oneshot] GM says, "You theoretically owe them eighteen shillings."
[oneshot] Jemmy exclaims (at GM), "ha-ha!"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "And they owe us the marble back."
[oneshot] GM says, "And they owe you a white marble."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "well, Arthur owes me a new pair of pants from university, so it all evens out"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Which is, of course, worth 30."
[oneshot] Lydia says, "yeah, but they owe us ... right"
[oneshot] Erich says, "this has been the pants adventure."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "But that negotiation was odd and rushed, so."
[oneshot] GM says, "Which I'm sure they'd have been happy to give you, except that you rather slammed the door in their face."
Jemmy exclaims (at Billings), "look what we found!"
Billings says, "Mmm? Excellent! Excellent work."
Jemmy exclaims, "and I got to test out the sword, too!"
Erich says, "and we have copious notes"
Erich says, "and drawings, thanks to Lydia."
Billings peers at the stringed bowl. "I've... this looks, rather, familiar..."
Kestrel, on the ride, experimented with a bunch of random 'phone numbers' to see if he could find one that worked.
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "Can I roll to see if I found one?"
Billings raises his eyebrows to Erich. "Yes?"
Lydia presents the notebook, in which she added more notes during the carriage ride.
Billings asks (of Kestrel), "'Phone'? Is that, er, Thean, yes?"
Erich mentions where he thinks he saw the design in the final bowl before.
Billings wrinkles his brow. "What, er, are sound numbers?"
[oneshot] Billings asks, "Depends: Are you using any sort of pattern?"
[oneshot] Billings says, "(Well, either way, yes. TN depends)"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "That was an emit not a statement! ;-)"
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "Yeah, I'm being methodical."
[oneshot] Billings says (to Kestrel), "Whoops."
[oneshot] Billings says (to Kestrel), "I'll rephrase: *what* sort of pattern? :)"
Billings looks over the things you've brought back -- the black bowl, the stringed bowl, the goblet, and... was there something else?
Erich says, "there was toast."
[oneshot] Kestrel says, "1 1 1 1 1 / 1 1 1 1 2 / 1 1 1 1 3 / etc."
[oneshot] Jemmy says (to Kestrel), "you're a busy boy"
Billings says, "Oh, right, yes. Syrneth toast? Hrm. I... so remarkably well-presevered."
Billings frowns, remembering taking a bite.
Billings says, "Oh my."
Jemmy exclaims (at Billings), "and Lydia's notes!"
Lydia says, "The notes. I'll be happy to explain them."
Kestrel says (to Billings), "There's also the matter of a wager we made with a group we ran into."
Erich says, "and I can explain the tentative translations I've made."
[oneshot] Billings says (to Kestrel), "Aha. A lot of discordant stuff -- on the fifth note of the series each time. But you were tired and kept losing count. You did find a couple that did an echoey effect, but didn't manage to find anyone to talk to that way."
Billings asks, "Er. Wager?"
Kestrel says, "We agreed that whichever of us came back with the more valuable group of artifacts got half of the other group's artifacts."
Jemmy exclaims, "Arthur cheated!"
Billings asks, "That's, er. Highly unorthodox... did you, er, come to a successful, er, or an unsuccessful conclusion, that is, win the, er, or lose, as it were, the bet?"
Jemmy exclaims, "well, ok, he didn't cheat, but he was just about to!"
Billings adds up your reward on scratch paper.
Jemmy exclaims, "we won the bet! look at all this stuff!"
Kestrel says, "At one point, we also traded artifacts, so we could each open a door we hadn't been able to."
Lydia says (to Jemmy), "I doubt Arthur will agree that we won next time you meet."
Kestrel says, "They still have what we traded them--a white marble, and we owe them 18 shillings for it."
Billings says, "Let's see... this, er, bowl... and this goblet... both fine pieces. Never seen anything like it. Not in the, uh, catalogs anywhere..."
Kestrel says, "Since we lost the marble we got in return."
Jemmy exclaims (at Lydia), "see, I told you we can't turst him!"
Erich says, "that switch allowed us to find the final piece required to get that pretty bowl"
Billings says, "Each of those definitely worth two hundred shillings, especially with these, re, markings and such all about..."
Billings asks, "Mmm, marble? Pardon?"
Billings asks, "Final piece?"
Kestrel points billings to http://www.bioc.rice.edu/~lpsmith/IF/7thSea/oneshot/
Lydia says, "We'll have to tell the whole story later."
Billings tries to unconfuse himself by going back to his adding. "And this bowl, with the strings... I'm sure... somewhere, I think there's a piece like this... can't for the life of me remember where I saw it...
[oneshot] Jemmy says (to Kestrel), "hee hee hee"
[oneshot] Erich laughs.
Jemmy exclaims (at Billings), "on your desk!"
Billings asks, "But, uh, eighty shillings, for a rare piece like that. And, er. Oh! Er. Where?"
Kestrel explains again about the transmitting ability of the bowls.
Lydia says (to Billings), "Your bedroom, probably."
Billings looks around, but doesn't see it on his desk at the moment.
Jemmy makes a mess of Billings's papers looking for the bowl.
Billings says (to Lydia), "Aha! Right. Yes. I remember now. My bedroom."
Erich exclaims, "bedroom!"
Erich mutters, "Good thing we did not leave that connection open the entire time."
[Crows-Nest] Lydia asks, "wait, what was Lydia doing in Billings' bedroom?!?"
Billings mutters. "Why in Theus' seven circles of heaven did I put an priceless artifact in my bedroom... Hrm."
Lydia reminds Billings, "We asked you to keep it. Because of the connection."
Billings asks (of Lydia), "Oh. That. Mmm. Oh! The toast?"
Billings laughs. "Very nice. Syrneth breakfast-ordering devices. What will those ancients think of next." He stops to think a moment. "Not much. They're probably all dead. Being ancients. But anyway..."
Kestrel gives up, writes everything down.
Lydia says, "Hm. Maybe trying to tell the whole story isn't such a good idea."
[oneshot] Jemmy says (to GM), "hee hee hee"
Billings says, "And, ah, the notes. *Excellent* work. Worth at least, oh, five pounds alone. Mmm. No, six. Yes, yes.""
[oneshot] Kestrel asks, "How much is a pound vs. a shilling?"
Erich says (to Lydia), "an excellent idea of yours."
Billings says, "So that's, er, six, erm, twelve... no, wait... ah. Thirty pounds. Er. Six hundred shillings. Something like that."
[oneshot] Billings says, "Twenty, IIRC."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "20 shillings -- yeah"
Billings smiles. Then he frowns. "Hrm. Were you injured?"
Jemmy says, "oh, it was nothi-- ow."
Jemmy shrugs off the pain, and then winces halfway.
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "(er, halfway through the shrug)"
Billings says, "Not good. That's not good at all. Conveniently, we -- er, the society, that is -- keep on hand physicians, that is, doctors of medical training, and such lkike..."
Erich says, "ah, good."
Lydia says, "There were very strange suits of armor that moved. And attacked."
Erich says, "I somehow missed picking up leeches on my own while in the water."
Billings nods. "Yes. We should definitely be able to have that taken care of. Oh, and here's a slip for the -- six hundred? Yes... -- the money. Miss, er, Cavendish will handle that for you.
Billings sits back, smiling. "Well. Excellent work. Any other, er, questions? Or answer? Or, um. Other such things?"
Jemmy scratches his head.
Jemmy exclaims, "this was fun!"
Jemmy says, "oh -- I'd better take this back."
Lydia asks, "It's fine that the written parts of this log are in Montaigne, then?"
Jemmy sadly goes to return the chel fa nir.
[oneshot] GM says, "Six hundred shillings, with four players, is one hundred fifty apiece. Do enjoy."
Billings asks, "They are?"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "woo"
Billings peers more closely.
Billings says, "Oh, my. I assumed it was Syrneth."
Erich says, "and mine in Eisen"
Billings says, "Well. I'm sure we have someone who can, er, handle the difference..."
Billings frowns, thinks for a moment, looks around at his papers. "Yes, someone. Mm. No worry."
Lydia says, "Good. Thank you"
[oneshot] GM says, "Two more XP each for today's session, and one for Jemmy for Arthur. Plus..."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "yay"
Kestrel says, "There are some more bowls like these, as well. I've found the tunes that activate them, though there doesn't seem to be anything on the other side making much noise at the present."
Kestrel says, "There are certainly more, as well."
[oneshot] GM says, "Three more for finishing the story, and two more for Jemmy for a BG story."
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "yay more"
[oneshot] GM says, "So eight for Jemmy, five for everone else, plus any leftover drama dice."
Billings asks (of Kestrel), "Really?"
[oneshot] Jemmy says, "3 panache, here I come"
Billings asks, "That will be in your, ah, full report?"
Kestrel nods.
Billings smiles. "Good, good."
[oneshot] GM exclaims, "Congratulations!"
