[shadowrun] Thurgun checks.

[shadowrun] GM says, "we can do that real quick if you want"

npc2 has disconnected.

npc2 goes home.

npc2 has arrived.

Asher has arrived.

[shadowrun] Thurgun says, "That's right--check out the gangs in the area."

[shadowrun] Thurgun says, "Sure."

[shadowrun] GM asks, "in which area?"

[shadowrun] Thurgun says, "K's."

[shadowrun] GM says, "okay"

[shadowrun] GM asks, "what are you doing for those two things?"

[shadowrun] Thurgun | [shadowrun] Thurgun says, "When we get back, I'd like to contact Liam to see what he can scare up about the guy from the gangs that live in the area, and Long Feather about that aura color."

[shadowrun] GM says, "basically, give me an idea of what you want to know and how you plan to find out, and I'll summarize the results so we can start in time"

[shadowrun] Emvee says, "I don't mind if you want to RP it."

[shadowrun] Emvee says, "Since Hugo's busy and Sunny's late, after all."

[shadowrun] GM says, "I'm worried for time only because we have to end exactly at 4:30"

[shadowrun] GM says, "but, sure, if that's how people want to spend the time"

[shadowrun] Thurgun says, "I wanted to know if the gangs in the area knew to avoid his house, or some such, or if they saw him as harmless, or saw any weird activity."

Liam says, "Yeah, I hear there's some funny stuff going around over there. No one's talking. It's too quiet."

[shadowrun] Thurgun says, "And I wanted to ask Long Feather if he recognized the aura, of if he had any ideas about what it might be (a rogue Spirit of the Foo, f'rex)"

Thurgun asks (of Liam), "No one's talking about what's happening, or no one talks?"

Liam says, "No one's talking at all."

[Crows-Nest] HugoStrange says, "I'm not busy."

[Crows-Nest] HugoStrange says, "ilac"

[shadowrun] HugoStrange says, "I'm not busy at this minute"

Liam says, "The SKulls have gone incommunicado. No one knows what they're up to, but they seem to be looking for territory."

[shadowrun] HugoStrange says, "I just have no idea what's going on."

Liam says, "And the Crash pretty much disappeared after their leader bought it in a cycle fight with some dudes."

Thurgun asks, "Moving out?"

[shadowrun] Thurgun says, "Ha ha ha"

Liam says, "No body knows, chummer."

Thurgun scratches his head.

[shadowrun] Asher says, "we've had three or four adventures total -- the first one was the one we did about retrieving a package from that indian nation and sending it to the weird shaman guy in the barrens"

[shadowrun] Asher says, "the second was about retrieving a package from a ship and fighting a motorcycle gang and delivering it to the shaman guy also"

[shadowrun] Asher says, "the (I think) third and last was about intercepting a new deck prototype being delivered to some company"

Thurgun says (to Liam), "Well, tell people to be on the lookout for a guy at <address>. I don't like what's going on there."

[shadowrun] Asher says, "Thurgun is checking up on the weird shaman guy"

[shadowrun] HugoStrange says, "Just tell me where I am at this moment."

[shadowrun] Emvee says, "You forgot the third-and-a-half one."

Liam says, "Will do, chummer."

[shadowrun] HugoStrange says, "Since Hugo wasn't there for those and wouldn't know about them anyway."

[shadowrun] Emvee says, "Which was testing out the BTL chips the weird shaman guy gave us."

[shadowrun] Asher says, "aha"

[shadowrun] Asher asks, "what happened there?"

[shadowrun] GM says, "you're waiting until I pull you into the next session"

[shadowrun] GM says, "which we'll do right after Thurgun talks to LongFeather"

LongFeather asks, "So, you have questions?"

[shadowrun] Emvee says (to Asher), "The sim had the guy writhing around with his 'brothers' like a rave, then got a message from his 'mother' calling him to go some place to help her."

[shadowrun] Emvee says (to Asher), "So he got crazy and ran off, straight to weird shaman guy's place."

Thurgun says, "Yeah--O'i met this guy who didn't seem to have a human aura."

Sunny has arrived.

LongFeather asks, "Aura reading is a difficult task. If he was here, I could tell you more. But what did it look like?"

[shadowrun] Asher says, "hunh, interesting"

[shadowrun] Thurgun asks, "I'm not finding it--red and streaky?"

[shadowrun] GM says, "yeah, lots of dark colors"

[shadowrun] GM says, "we'll pretend they match"

[shadowrun] GM says, "aura reading is very subjective, uh huh"

Thurgun says, "It was a weird mix of dark colors--red, black, purple streaks."

LongFeather asks, "In layers, or swirled?"

[shadowrun] GM says, "just make something up"

Thurgun says, "Swirled, more. And constantly shifting."

LongFeather exclaims, "Aaah!"

LongFeather exclaims, "Stay away!"

LongFeather says, "That is a bad sign, a bad sign indeed."

[shadowrun] Asher says, "ha ha"

[shadowrun] Asher says, "dangerous sherbet aura"

Thurgun frowns at the phone. "A bad sign of what?"

LongFeather says, "This man has been touched by something...more. Something not human."

LongFeather says, "Something dangerous."

[shadowrun] Emvee says, "Y'know, it occurs to me that I should have watched Tusker's aura when he was on the chip."

Thurgun says, "So he is human? I thought he might be a rogue spirit."

LongFeather says, "There are many kinds of spirits."

LongFeather says, "Most are the usual kind, they fly free. You know them in astral space because they have no aura: instead they are aura."

LongFeather says, "Some spirits take over human bodies. These are more and less powerful, because they are grounded into the material plane more strongly."

LongFeather says, "This is a man who has been touched by powerful spirits, but he is not a spirit himself."

LongFeather says, "But his master will help him."

Thurgun asks, "How would O'i protect myself from him? And how can O'i protect others from him?"

LongFeather says, "Stay away. Or kill him. Or banish his master. These are the only ways."

Thurgun says, "Hmm."

Thurgun asks, "If he wanted Force 6 summoning materials, what would such a creature want with these things?"

[shadowrun] Thurgun asks, "It was force 6, right?"

LongFeather says, "If this man does something, it is because his master wants it. You do not want to know the things a dark spirit is capable of."

[shadowrun] GM says, "yes"

[shadowrun] GM asks (of thurgun), "anything else?"

Thurgun asks, "Would his master be bound to one area?"

LongFeather says, "It would depend on the spirit."

LongFeather says, "Most likely, it stays in the astral plane and allows this man to do its work."

Thurgun nods, not realizing he can't be seen over the phone.

LongFeather says, "Even I do not know all the ways of spirits. And I have never studied the evil spirits."

Thurgun says, "Yeah."

Thurgun asks, "O'i suppose only bad guys study evil spirits? Or is there someone you know who knows how to fight 'em?"

LongFeather says, "I do not now anyone. But if I find someone, I will let you know."

LongFeather says, "But the best advice is to stay far, far away."

Thurgun says, "Thanks--that's the plan. But you were the one who taught me about plans."

LongFeather says, "And you learned well. Be safe."

Thurgun exclaims, "Talk to you later!"

GM says, "A few weeks later, Sunny gets a phone call."

Estopple asks (of Sunny), "Hey, you there? Is this line secure?"

[Crows-Nest] TonyThum asks, "'Estopple'?"

Sunny asks, "Hey! I swept it earlier, it should be good. What's up?"

[Crows-Nest] Sunny says, "yes indeed"

[Crows-Nest] Sunny says, "in the future people will be named after legal strategies"

[Crows-Nest] Asher says, "he runs a dot-com selling corks"

[Crows-Nest] TonyThum asks, "Wait, estopple is not only a name but also a word?"

Estopple asks, "I know you're in the biz, now. Guy I know needs a bit of muscle, fast. Five or six people, but it's gotta be today, like in the next two hours. Think you can find a team that quick?"

Sunny asks, "Is this muscle for show or muscle for hurting?"

Estopple says, "I ain't sure. Sounded like the hurting, though."

[Crows-Nest] Asher says, "is 'estoppel'"

Sunny says, "Hm. I can round up people, but they'll want more info before signing on for sure."

[Crows-Nest] Sunny says, "right"

Estopple says, "The guy wants you to meet him at a Stuffer Shack in Redmond. It's weird to me, too, but he's been a good friend before. Security guy with Saeder Krupp."

Estopple says, "He hasn't steered me wrong yet."

Estopple says, "But he didn't give me details, just wanted me to put out feelers. I thought of you, first."

Sunny says, "I appreciate it! I'll call some people, get a potential team together."

[Crows-Nest] Asher says, "ha ha"

Estopple says, "Cool. Here's the address. He says he'll be waiting."

Estopple asks, "Talk to you soon, huh?"

Sunny exclaims, "You bet!"

[shadowrun] Sunny says, "man, contacts are always with the needing help"

[shadowrun] GM says, "sucks like that"

[shadowrun] Emvee says, "Always good for your contacts to owe you the facors."

[shadowrun] Emvee says, "Or favors, even."

[shadowrun] Sunny says, "this is like an old-fashioned phone tree."

[shadowrun] Sunny asks, "do we want to RP through the calling up of everyone?"

[shadowrun] GM says, "up to you"

[shadowrun] Emvee says, "Nah."

[shadowrun] Sunny says, "I'm fine with skipping ahead to the shack if everyone else is"

HugoStrange rolls up to wherever we're meeting before heading over to the Stuffer Shack. "Fast work - just got back in from the West Coast tour, and already there's work waiting."

[shadowrun] Thurgun says, "My guess was that Hugo was definitely against rp'ing calling up everyone."

[shadowrun] Sunny says, "oho, sorry, mis-understood"

TonyThum vroom.

Emvee tools up to the curb and chains his scooter to something convenient.

Sunny says, "Hey, Hugo! Hi everyone! Thanks for coming on such short notice."

Asher scootch^H^Hes up to the Stuffer Shack.

[shadowrun] Thurgun says, "Yay"

[shadowrun] GM says, "ha ha"

Thurgun introduces himself to those he hasn't met yet.

Sunny says, "I don't know the guy who's looking for the team, so this may be interesting."

HugoStrange asks, "Thurg, my trog - good to see you again! Who're dese guys, den?"

Emvee boggles when he sees Hugo.

Thurgun says, "O'i think Ashe- er, A-plus knows 'em."

[shadowrun] GM says, "I thought about trying for a meet cute, but this is easier"

[shadowrun] Thurgun says, "Heh."

Sunny says, "I'm Sunny. I've worked with several of you before."

Thurgun shakes Sunny's hand carefully.

Emvee mumbles, "h'm'mv'."

Sunny exclaims (at Thurgun), "Hi! Pleased to meet you!"

Thurgun beams.

[shadowrun] Sunny says, "at some point I'm going to have to confess that in college I had Hugo's songs on repeat"

Asher says, "Emvee's a gadget guy and can toss some spells, Tony's fully-wired, Sunny's armed to the teeth, Hugo's got a sweet car that'll save your ass in a pinch, and Thurgun's pulls spirits from his pocket and dismisses them just as easy"

Thurgun asks, "Well, A-plus's message said that we had to be there quick--shall we go on in?"

Emvee says, "'K."

[shadowrun] Thurgun asks, "I assume we don't need Quint this run?"

GM says, "As you walk in, only one table is occupied."

[shadowrun] Sunny says, "hopefully not"

Asher says (to Thurgun), "this is Sunny's contact, by the way -- I'm just passing the message"

Thurgun nods.

GM says, "The guy sitting there is wearing what almost looks like an army uniform. Khaki, braid on the shoulders, shouldpatches that say "SK"."

GM says, "shoulderpatches"

Sunny asks, "Hey there! Mind if we join you?"

Kreiger stands.

Kreiger asks, "I take it you are Sunny?"

Kreiger says, "I am Max Kreiger. Please, sit."

HugoStrange stops in the door, sees the uniform, and hollers, "Shee-it, man, nothing like being inconspicous! Guffaw."

[Crows-Nest] Thurgun exclaims, "It's another K name! He's in league with Krumholtz!"

[Crows-Nest] GM says, "possibly, but at least he's not with Kolmetz"

Sunny says, "Hello, Max! I am."

[Crows-Nest] Thurgun says, "Why do I keep getting that wrong? Oh, well, it's in character."

Kreiger says, "I run security for a small...research station we have nearby."

Kreiger says, "We've been here for a few years without any problems."

Sunny listens, nodding at appropriate points.

Kreiger says, "Recently, however, some of the local gangs have become obnoxious. We suspect some of our competitors are behind it."

Kreiger says, "We'd like for some people to find out who is behind it, why, and then, hmm, convince the gangers to stop."

Kreiger says, "If you're interested, I'll take you to our facility for a more thorough briefing."

HugoStrange orders a giant plate of nachos to snack on while he listens.

Asher pulls up a chair.

GM says (to Hugo), "Your soynachos with soycheese arrive quickly, and have that cardboard taste you grew up on."

Sunny asks, "Our mutual acquaintance didn't give us much time to get together. I take it there's a reason for the rush?"

[shadowrun] Sunny says, "oh, man, please tell me this is the day I get to blow stuff up on transcript"

Kreiger says, "Normally, a street gang wouldn't be a worry to us at all."

Kreiger says, "Last night, they made a very serious raid. Almost penetrated our defenses, and they did manage to kill one of our researchers."

Kreiger says, "We are very, very upset. This will not be repeated. So they need to be closed down, today."

[Crows-Nest] HugoStrange says, "DAmmit, I've lost my character sheet."

Sunny nods.

Asher says, "I guess this isn't going to be a stealth job"

[Crows-Nest] GM says, "it's online at lpsmith's site"

Kreiger says (to Asher), "A low profile is not really a requirement, no."

[Crows-Nest] HugoStrange says, "Ah, it's in the NSRCG program directory"

Kreiger says, "That's also why we are using, hmm, outside contractors for this job."

HugoStrange mumbles with his mouth full, "What colours?"

Kreiger says, "Normally our own security staff is fully up to this task, but if I bring in enough extra people, it might alert them."

Kreiger asks (of Hugo), "Excuse me?"

Emvee asks, "D'y'know what gangs it is?"

Kreiger says, "That would be part of the extended briefing."

HugoStrange says (to Kreiger), "What colours dey wearing? Oh, that thing."

Kreiger says, "I can't divulge too many details until you agree to take the job."

Kreiger says, "For internal security reasons, of course."

Thurgun nods. "O'im in."

Asher shrugs. "Well, I'm in, if the pay's right."

Emvee nods with Asher.

TonyThum says, "Ditto"

[shadowrun] HugoStrange asks (of GM), "Are the gangs in this area especially dangerous?"

Kreiger says, "If the job is finished today, it's worth 20,000 Y."

[shadowrun] HugoStrange says, "(I have Gang Turf 3, Gang ID 3)"

Emvee looks around the room, to count and divide.

[shadowrun] GM says, "this area is the turf of the Skulls and the Crash."

[shadowrun] Asher says (to Sunny), "you want to negotiate it up? it doesn't seem to be my speciality"

Sunny frowns. "That seems a *little* low for a rush job against a well-armed group and a high chance of physical hazard."

[shadowrun] Asher says, "(I need hardly ask)"

[shadowrun] Sunny says, "I've got to use my skill points in pouting whenever possible"

[shadowrun] GM says (to sunny), "roll it. TN 4"

[shadowrun] Sunny rolls 5t4: 5 3 1 3 6+4 | 2

[shadowrun] Asher says, "hee hee"

[shadowrun] Kreiger rolls 4t5: 3 2 6+5 1 | 1

Kreiger says, "Very well. I could go to 25,000 Y, I suppose."

[shadowrun] Asher says, "nice work"

HugoStrange says, "Skullz be bad news, yo. Need ta make it well worth our while."

[shadowrun] HugoStrange says, "tmg"

Sunny exclaims, "That'd be cracking!"

Kreiger says, "Excellent. Follow me."

Sunny looks around. "I believe we're all in."

Asher says, "sounds like a plan"

Kreiger stands up and walks toward the back of the store. he nods to the manager, who unlocks the door to the prep area.

Kreiger says, "This way, gentlemen."

Kreiger says, "And lady."

Emvee follows.

HugoStrange grabs his plate of nachos and wolfs down the rest as he walks. Classy.

Kreiger heads back through the prep area and to a small door in the back, which opens on some stairs.

Sunny follows along, watching carefully as they go.

Kreiger walks down the stairs, explaining, "This is actually the only entrance into our facility. We have the building directly behind. Of course the original doors and windows are entirely bricked up, and we've substantially improved the rest of the building."

GM says, "At the bottom of the stairs is a short hallway, which runs parallel to the street out front. In the middle is a large steel door."

[shadowrun] Sunny says, "I love that they're doing research with a stuffer shack as the front"

Asher tries to scope out the general floor plan as they head into the building

[shadowrun] Sunny says, "hamburger u, indeed"

Kreiger stans in front of the retinal scanner, which humms and beeps, and then presses the intercom panel.

Kreiger says, "Standish, I am returning with ... 1, 2, 3, ... 6 contractors."

Standish opens the door, points his rifle at the ceiling, and stands back.

Standish says, "Welcome in, y'all."

Sunny smiles at Standish.

GM says, "The corridor continues, makes a right turn into the basement of the facility."

[Crows-Nest] HugoStrange asks, "Holy crap, there's that many of us?"

[Crows-Nest] GM says, "that's my count"

[Crows-Nest] Asher says, "this should be a high-fire-power gig"

[Crows-Nest] Sunny exclaims, "boom! whoosh!"

Kreiger says, "We use the basement for storage, the first floor for living quarters, and here we are, second floor is offices and the conference room."

Kreiger says, "Do not attempt to go up to the third floor while you are here."

Kreiger switches on the project and off the lights. "Have a seat."

Emvee tries to get an idea of the security system they're passing through.

TonyThum switches on recording devices as needed

[Crows-Nest] Asher says, "hee hee"

HugoStrange lounges.

Asher grabs one of the aerons

Thurgun looks around, sees no troll-modded seats, sighs, leans against the wall.

Kreiger says, "We began this facility a bit over a year ago."

Kreiger says, "Per standard practice, we hired the local street gang, the Skulls, to act as street-level information for us."

[Crows-Nest] Asher says, "man, shadowrun is so awesome"

Kreiger says, "Also per standard practice, we hired one of the Skulls as an informant on the rest of the gang."

[Crows-Nest] Asher says, "ha ha"

HugoStrange asks, "Who da snitch?"

Kreiger says, "The Skulls were a typical street gang. They control about 10 blocks of territory near here, and earn income via protection rackets and drug running."

[Crows-Nest] Thurgun asks, "What area are we in? Are we in the barrens?"

[Crows-Nest] Sunny says, "redmond"

Kreiger says (to Hugo), "A fellow called, I believe, Barker."

[shadowrun] GM says, "yeah, this is Redmond"

[shadowrun] Thurgun says, "O-ho."

Kreiger says, "We received regular reports from Barker up until about two weeks ago."

Kreiger says, "At that time he said that Thorn, the gang leader, was going in for some new cybersurgery."

Kreiger says, "He never contacted us again. Which is odd, since we owe him money."

Thurgun frowns, nodding.

[shadowrun] HugoStrange asks, "Don't suppose I know him?"

[shadowrun] GM says, "no, he's just a random ganger foot-soldier"

Asher asks, "did he say what the cybersurgery was for?"

Kreiger says, "We do know that he has family. His mother lives in another part of the Barrens."

[shadowrun] HugoStrange asks, "What do I know about the Skulls and the - uh, other guys?"

[Crows-Nest] TonyThum says, "he 'cybered' the snitch"

Kreiger says (to Asher), "He said Thorn didn't tell them. Just that Ice, the second-in-command, was in charge until Thorn returned."

[Crows-Nest] TonyThum says, "and that does not mean what you're thinking in Shadowrun"

Kreiger says, "Then, about a week ago, the gang suddenly became very aggressive."

Kreiger says, "They began fighting with neighboring gangs, trying to increase their territory."

Kreiger says, "They also appear to have stopped selling regular drugs, and have moved into the BTL market."

Sunny tries not to jump.

Kreiger says, "And, of course, they became more aggressive with us, culminating in last night's attack."

[Crows-Nest] Thurgun says, ""Naw, man, you don't need that dope. What you need is this juicy bacon-tomato-lettuce burger.""

Kreiger says, "At about 11 pm last night, our sentry on the roof of this building was knocked out, and the gang began trying to infiltrate from the roof."

[shadowrun] TonyThum says, "nothing a small tacnuke can't handle"

Kreiger says, "Luckily, they didn't count on our automated systems, so we knew poor Jerry's condition immediately and were able to respond in force."

Kreiger says, "However, one of our researchers on the third floor was killed in the fight."

Asher asks, "I don't suppose you noticed any unusual astral or spirit activity as part of the attack?"

Kreiger says, "We know where the Skulls' headquarters is, but we don't know what precipitated the attack."

Kreiger says (to Asher), "None of our maged noted anything unusual. However, we do not usually mount astral guard, since that would definitely be out of character for this neighborhood."

Emvee asks, "When'd th' rest o' th'gang stop givin' intel?"

Kreiger says, "The entire reason for this facility's location is secrecy."

Kreiger says (to Emvee), "We usually send people to them when we want specific data. We haven't asked them for anything in the last month or so."

HugoStrange asks, "So which of dem knew this place was here?"

[shadowrun] GM says (to Hugo), "you didn't know anything about the Skulls that he didn't cover here. standard small-time street gang"

Sunny asks, "So you could tell us where you go when you want data?"

Kreiger says (to Hugo), "In theory, none of them did."

Kreiger says, "Obviously, that's not true."

Kreiger says (to Sunny), "We usually sent someone to their headquarters. However, given their new belligerence, that might not be the safest move."

TonyThum asks, "How did your snitch report back?"

Sunny says, "Still, knowing the location of their HQ could be useful."

Emvee asks, "What happened t' th'guys who tried t' get in th'roof?"

Kreiger says (to Tony), "We gave him a cellphone. Once a week we'd call it and set up a meet in a Stuffer Shack a few blocks away."

Kreiger says (to Emvee), "We killed a few, and the rest ran off."

TonyThum nods.

Asher asks, "did you examine their bodies? anything unusual?"

HugoStrange asks, "Tried calling him?"

Kreiger says, "We didn't give chase because we were worried it was just a feint. It's a pretty dumb way to attack a well-defended place."

[shadowrun] Sunny asks, "I wonder: does the HQ need to be standing when we're done?"

[shadowrun] Sunny says, "Just idle speculation, you understand."

[shadowrun] GM exclaims, "that's a silly question!"

[shadowrun] Asher says, "I don't see why"

[shadowrun] Asher says, "hee hee"

[shadowrun] TonyThum says, "depends on where it is"

[shadowrun] Asher says, "nothing sends a message like high explosives"

Kreiger says (to Hugo), "Yes. No answer."

[shadowrun] Asher says (to TT), "this is the barrens, nobody cares if we blow stuff up"

[shadowrun] GM says, "of course, he did say that he also wanted info"

[shadowrun] Asher says (to GM), "oh yeah"

Emvee asks, "Y'sure they're th'same gang?"

[shadowrun] Sunny says, "okay, okay, so that's the grand finale, when we achieve the power of metal"

[shadowrun] Asher says, "hee hee"

Thurgun asks (of Kreiger), "Does the phone have one of those, whaddya call it, GSP units on it? So you know where it is?"

Kreiger says (to Emvee), "They were wearing gang insignia. With the way things are on the streets, I don't think anyone else would dear wear Skull colors now."

Emvee winces at Thurgun.

[shadowrun] Sunny says (to Emvee), "ha ha ha"

[shadowrun] Sunny says (to Asher), "yay"

Barker says, "But, he went weird. I know that happens when someone gets a lot of 'ware, but he's gone really weird."

Barker says, "Stays in his room all the time. Only one sees him, ever, is Ice."

Barker says, "He only comes out for rumbles."

Barker says, "Lots more rumbles these days."

Barker says, "But none of that is why I left."

Asher asks, "so why'd you leave?"

Barker says, "We used to sell..."

Barker looks at the kitchen, where his mother is cooking.

Barker asks, "We used to sell stuff. You know what kind, right?"

Barker says, "Well, we stopped. We still had a stash, but Thorn told us to stop selling it."

Barker says, "Instead, we started selling BTLs."

Asher asks, "where'd he get those?"

Barker says, "Thorn sent a few guys over to pick them up. I dunno where from."

Barker says, "I never tried BTLs. But a few of the guys had."

Barker says, "So they tried a few. Man, I've never seen anything like that."

Barker says, "They were crying and moaning and shit."

Barker says, "And when Thorn found out, he came out and started beating the shit out of them."

Barker says, "Said we should never try this fucking merchanise."

Asher asks, "did they say anything about a mother? or a brother?"

Barker says (to Asher), "Yeah, a couple of them were moaning something about their mothers. I dunno what."
