Saundra "Sunny" Cahall, Weapons Expert Mac Cahall, former mercenary and well-paid corporate security expert, always wanted a son. Instead he got Saundra. She always suspected that Mac had chosen her name because it was the only girl's name he could think of that sounded anything like "son." Sunny's mom died when she was two, leaving the Old Man to care for her. She grew up surrounded by weapons, megacorp politics, military theory, and many armed guards. Mac made a half-hearted effort to rear Sunny as a "proper" girl, even sending her to a finishing school. It didn't work. Mac's money and position in Seattle made it easy for Saundra to indulge in her hobbies. She learned to field-strip a pistol before she learned to read. For her fourteenth birthday, Mac took her to a firing range and let her try out the heavy weapons. She never did get that IWS Multi-Launcher she wanted. Mac made a deal with Sunny: stick with college, and he'd buy that smartlink she wanted. She agreed. He made it a present for her twentieth birthday. For her twenty-first birthday the Old Man got her her skillwire, plastic-laced bones, and boosted reflexes. Saundra nearly killed herself demonstrating her new augmentations to her friends back at school. For her twenty-second birthday the Old Man got a bullet in the brain, courtesy of a shadowrunner team that had been hired to take him out. They'd been hired to get Sunny, too, and if they'd waited until he met her for her birthday dinner they'd have been successful. Instead, Sunny got the page from the Old Man's deadman switch. She ran, deteremined to vanish. Whatever megacorp had fragged Mac wouldn't like loose ends. He'd set up a number of independent safehouses, just in case. Sunny took one as her living space and another as a weapons cache and machine shop. With the push of a button the others vanished in flames and shrapnel. Now she runs to make ends meet. Hey, she has to pay for those safehouses somehow.
