GM says, "tum-te-tum"

Elgran asks, "who are we waiting for?"

GM says, "Jota"

GM says, "but this first encounter is just CR 5, so you will probably make short work of it"

GM says, "so he can join in when he shows up"

GM says, "so the two, or perhaps four, of you had been adventuring around in your adventury way, when you stopped at a village that was experiencing a sheep shortage"

GM says, "they were so poor they had been reduced to attempting to trade wood and wheat for sheep, but found no takers"

Elgran says, "ha ha"

GM says, "and don't even get me started on bricks"

Clem says, "Hee hee."

Elgran asks, "Missing sheep, huh?"

GM says, "specifically, their sheep were disappearing when they were sent out into the fields to graze, and some of the shepherds sent to look over them had disappeared also"

Clem says, "They don't even have a port! This is not at all excellent."

Elgran whistles one high, and one low, and Wolf heads over to the location to start sniffing.

GM says, "there were rumors of some strange beast from the hills coming to prey on them"

GM says, "so you guys agreed to help them out, being nice guys and spoiling for a rumble"

[tomb] Jota says, "Oh, whoops, I forgot."

[tomb] GM says, "you're just in time"

[tomb] GM says, "type dtt to come over here when you're ready"

Clem says, "That's my entire character description right there."

Elgran says, "This town is tooo...big."

Elgran says, "Let's head out and see where the action went down."

Clem asks, "What do you reckon, do you want to scout it out?"

Pete has arrived.

Clem asks, "Or should we just camp out there and let it come to us?"

GM says (to Pete), "summary: you guys are looking for some big monster that is eating the sheep of the villagers"

Elgran says, "I was thinking to see if Wolf can tell where the sheep went."

[tomb] dfan says, "I assume someone is logging this, btw"

[tomb] dfan says, "I am mostly afk"

[tomb] GM says, "yeah, I got it"

[tomb] Elgran says (to clem), "I didn't spend the tricks to train a wolf as a tracker for nothing"

Paulie says, "Yarr."

Clem says, "Well, let's all head out to the sheep field, then you can send wolfie out tracking."

[tomb] Elgran look up tracking rules

GM exclaims (at Elgran), "he sniffs around alertly for a while around the hind legs of a sheep (all that remains) and then picks up a trail leading into the hills!"

Elgran exclaims, "Let's follow!"

Clem can't do much about his armour, but he sticks his sword in his handy haversack for now.

Clem clank clank

[tomb] Clem says, "I should probably check that it actually fits."

[tomb] Clem says, "But whatever, I'm strong enough to carry the thing."

GM says, "you guys walk along for a while until the time comes for you all to make a spot check"

Clem says, "Whoops, forgot to add that one."

GM says, "(DC 15)"

Clem rolls 5 for d20 +: 2 | 2

[tomb] Elgran asks, "okay, so that's d20+skill?"

Clem says, "Uh."

[tomb] GM says, "right"

Paulie says, "Yarr."

Elgran rolls 1d20+14 for spot: 18+14 | 32

Clem says, "Oops, forgot the 1."

[tomb] Elgran asks, "does Wolf get a spot check?"

Paulie rolls 1d20: 18 | 18

[tomb] GM says, "sure"

Clem rolls 1d20+5: 10+5 | 15

Clem says, "I hear clanking!"

Elgran rolls 1d20+3 for wspot: 2+3 | 5

GM asks (of Paulie), "is your barbarian buddy along?"

(From Elgran) Wolf stops to sniff his crotch.

[tomb] Clem says, "Sheesh, some wolf this is."

[tomb] Elgran says, "hey, I think I saw something"

Paulie says (to GM), "Let's say not, for simplicity."

GM says, "alrighty"

GM says, "well, it's not surprising the wolf didn't notice anything, because what the rest of you notice is a dark shadow moving across the ground towards you"

GM exclaims, "looking up, you see flying towards you a hideous manticore!!"

Clem says, "What's that dark shadow over theeargh"

Elgran dives under a bush.

Clem pulls out his sword!

GM says, "which, I'm sure you all recall, is a fearsome beast with the body of a lion, the wings of a bat, the face of an old man, and the tail of a scorpion but with metal spikes on the end instead of a stinger"

Paulie draws his as well.

Clem says, "I'm not sure I can usefully brace for attack without a spear, but I do it anyway."

[tomb] Elgran asks, "actually, how far away is it?"

[tomb] (from Clem) GM says, "Six miles."

[tomb] GM says, "about a hundred feet"

[tomb] Elgran asks, "ie, do I have time to pull out the shortbow?"

[tomb] GM says, "it came over the top of a nearby hill"

[tomb] GM says, "yeah, everyone can take an action to ready themselves for it"

Elgran pulls out his bow and a few arrows

Paulie says, "(Are we using any particular channel for OOC talk?)"

Clem says, "Gee, this would be a good time for a defensive spell if I had bothered to memorise any."

GM says, "just #tomb, I guess"

GM says, "ok, and now we roll initiative"

You roll 1d20+2: 19+2 | 21

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Do we need initiative to act?"

Clem rolls d20-1 for init: 15-1 | 14

[tomb] Paulie says, "Timing."

[tomb] Elgran says, "oh, yeah, spells"

Elgran rolls 1d20+8 for init: 10+8 | 18

Paulie rolls 1d20+7: 4+7 | 11

GM says, "man, zippy manticore"

[tomb] Elgran says, "GM always gets the best init"

Clem says, "Whoa, fast little bugger."

GM says, "ok, so the order until the end of this fight will be manticore, Elgan, Clem, Paulie"

GM says, "if people want to wait until someone else acts before they act, or "ready" an action contigent on someone else doing something, they can do that too"

[tomb] Clem says, "I'll happily stand in frontish of Paulie."

GM says, "but in the mean time, the manticore says "rar!" and fires some spikes at you guys"

[tomb] Clem says, "Elgan was probably leading but he jumped into the bushes."

GM says, "I guess all at Clem"

GM says, "who I hope is wearing armor"

Clem says, "Rar!"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Thanks."

Clem clank clank

[tomb] Paulie says, "For that, you can be the first to taste my haste."

GM says, "ok, I'm going to roll 6 attacks here, and try and get at least your AC each time"

[tomb] Elgran says (to clem), "jumped into bushes _and_ got out my bow"

[tomb] Clem says, "(AC 19)"

You roll 1d20+8: 19+8 | 27

You roll 1d20+8: 13+8 | 21

You roll 1d20+8: 1+8 | 9

[tomb] Clem says, "Six?? Holy crap."

You roll 1d20+8: 12+8 | 20

[tomb] Paulie says, "(Ignoring the fact that tere isn't really any 'first' for a spell I can cast on a bunch of people all at once.)"

You roll 1d20+8: 13+8 | 21

You roll 1d20+8: 19+8 | 27

GM says, "wow"

[tomb] Clem says, "One missed!"

[tomb] Clem says, "Oops, no, it didn't."

GM says, "ok, two of those were 19s, which means they're critical threats, since the critical range is 19-20"

GM says, "right, one missed"

GM says, "so I'm going to reroll the critical threats to see if they're actually critical hits"

[tomb] Clem says, "Ah, yeah, the 9."

GM says, "if I hit again on these two rolls, they are, otherwise they're normal hits"

You roll 1d20+8: 7+8 | 15

GM says, "lucky guy"

[tomb] Elgran says, "whew"

Clem clank clunk urgh grrr splat

GM says, "ok, so that's, uh, 5d8+10 damage"

GM says, "let us hope you have healing"

You roll 5d8+10: 1 4 2 2 7+10 | 26

Clem asks, "Is that the best you can do?"

[tomb] Clem asks, "Hmm, how are we toting HP?"

GM says, "the manticore roars triumphantly! "rar!""

[tomb] GM says, "hmm, I don't have a tracker here, but it would be a good idea"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Toting? Like, is it in the haversacks or our pockets?"

[tomb] Clem says, "I could edit my sheet."

GM says, "next up, Elgan"

[tomb] Elgran says, "Elgran"

GM says, "er, with an r"

[tomb] Clem says, "If the GM has the master copy in a window."

GM says, "(Paulie probably borrowed his arr)"

Elgran takes careful aim and fies two arrows at the manticore.

[tomb] Clem says, "I started off with 68 so I'm okay for the time being, anyway."

[tomb] GM says, "just don't lose track of your max hp"

GM says, "ok, the manticore's AC is 17"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Elgran looks strangely similar to Pyotr."

[tomb] Elgran says, "okay, so if it's 100' away, I am at +14/+9 for the two attacks, I think"

[tomb] Elgran exclaims (at paulie), "he's an elf!"

[tomb] Elgran exclaims, "and can count!"

Elgran rolls 1d20+14: 6+14 | 20

Elgran rolls 1d20+9: 5+9 | 14

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Then shouldn't that @desc say 'A large elf with a larger beard.'?"

[tomb] GM says, "picky picky"

[tomb] Elgran says, "oh, that I never updated, no"

GM says, "ok, so not a critical threat, but you do hit with the first one"

GM asks, "how much damage?"

Elgran says, "1d6. sheesh"

Elgran rolls 1d6: 6 | 6

GM says, "next up, Clem"

[tomb] Elgran asks, "bows don't get an attribute bonus for damage, do they?"

Clem says, "I'm going to turn my flaming sword on, which I think is a free action, and just wade in there."

[tomb] GM says, "you can buy a special bow that incorporates your strength bonus, I believe"

Clem says, "I'm +11/+6"

[tomb] Elgran says, "I don't have that"

Clem rolls 1d20+11: 16+11 | 27

[tomb] Elgran says, "thanks"

Clem rolls 1d20+6: 4+6 | 10

GM says, "wait wait"

GM says, "the manticore is currently 100 feet away"

Clem says, "Oh, whoops, it fired spikes, I see."

GM says, "and I believe you can move 20 feet a round"

GM says, "yeah"

[tomb] Elgran says, "this is why I bought the bow"

Clem says, "Okay, just for the hell of it, Dimension Door time."

GM says, "ha ha"

GM says, "cool"

[tomb] Elgran exclaims, "yay!"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Hee."

Clem says, "Except I will have to look up how that one works here."

[tomb] Paulie says, "I'm wondering which direction he's going to go in."

dfan says, "It's 20 feet an action"

GM says, "whoops, good point"

dfan says, "Which means you can move 40 feet normally, or 80 if you run"

Clem asks, "So I can run like crazy and then fall panting right at its feet?"

GM says, "well, it'll still have to move towards you on its turn"

GM says, "(or fire more spikes)"

Clem says, "It's not clear to me that it can't fire more spikes, and I can only take so many of them, so."

dfan says, "Also, if Clem ran, he would lose his massive dexterity bonus to his AC"

GM says, "hee hee"

Clem says, "Ha ha ha."

Paulie says, "Do manticores *have* feet? I don't think inky mentioned them in the anatomy lesson earlier."

GM says, "you can bring one willing person per three caster levels along with you on the DD"

GM says, "so if you want you can bring everyone along, I guess"

Clem says, "Only touched creatures."

Clem says, "I could take Paulie."

dfan says, "Does it have a verbal component? If so, you have to make up a cheesy magic phrase"

Elgran says, "oh, sure, abaondon me as you get closer to the beastie"

GM says, "it only has a verbal component"

Paulie asks, "Aren't we close enough to touch each other?"

GM says, "yeah, I will say you can all touch each other as free actions"

GM says, "as long as you keep it PG-rated"

Clem says, "KAVOOMFSPOOMF hey look I'm behind the manticore!"

Paulie says, "Otherwise, it's 5gp."

GM says, "right"

Clem waves to the other two, 100 feet away.

GM says, "right, ok"

GM says, "Paulie, your turn"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "So, did Clem just go 100ft away and leave all of us behind?"

[tomb] Clem says, "Shit, I should have teleported on top of it."

[tomb] GM says, "it looks like it"

[tomb] Clem says, "Yes!"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Just for that, no haste for you."

[tomb] Clem says, "Now it's going to run towards Paulie and I'll have to chase the bugger."

[tomb] Elgran says, "heh"

[tomb] GM says, "no you shouldn't have, because that's hard to adjudicate"

Paulie hastes all the PC's who are actually *within range*.

GM says, "good work"

[tomb] Elgran asks, "what does Haste do?"

[tomb] Paulie | +1 bonus to hit and to dodge bonus to AC and reflex saves. Also, 1 extra attack if making a full attack. Also, +30ft. to speed (max 2*normal).

[tomb] dfan says, "It makes Waste"

[tomb] Paulie says, "...is what is in my notes."

[tomb] GM says, "right"

[tomb] Elgran says (to dfan), "ha"

GM exclaims, "ok, next round!"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Should last six rounds."

You roll 1d20+9: 5+9 | 14

[tomb] Elgran says, "I hope that's enough"

Clem rolls d20-1 for init: 13-1 | 12

GM says, "the manticore fails to notice Clem, because it is dumb"

GM says, "no, don't reroll init"

GM says, "it stays constant for the combat"

Clem says, "Oh, oops."

[tomb] Paulie says, "If not, I've got three more of them. I can cast four level three spells a day."

GM says, "that was the manticore looking to see if it spotted you, which it didn't"

[tomb] Paulie says, "And that's the only one I know."

GM exclaims, "so it charges for Elgran!!"

Elgran exclaims, "I am under a bush still!"

dfan says, "leaving Clem in the dust"

Clem says, "Come back here!"

GM says (to Elgran), "yeah, but you shot arrows at it"

[tomb] Clem says, "Hee hee hee/"

Elgran says, "picky picky"

[tomb] Elgran says, "this is great"

[tomb] Clem asks, "Where's wolf, by the way?"

[tomb] Clem says, "I assume he's spotted the manticore by now."

[tomb] Elgran says, "cowering under a bush"

GM says, "it leaps into the air, flying clumsily, and then comes to a landing by the bush"

[tomb] Elgran says, "actually, I could make him attack"

GM says, "I guess that's it's move"

[tomb] Elgran says, "or, rather, defend me"

GM exclaims, "Elgran, your move!"

GM says, "if you attack it with your bow, you'll take an attack of opportunity, because it's right next to you"

GM says, "if you want to use your bow, you can take a 5' step away and *then* attack"

GM says, "and then it won't be right next to you and won't get to take the AoO"

GM says, "or you can switch weapons"

Elgran drops the bow, grabs his quarterstaff, and leaps out at the manticore, while yelling "Wolf, to me!"

[tomb] Elgran says, "I am feeling foolish"

[tomb] Paulie says, "You haven't been paying attention."

[tomb] Elgran asks, "should I have rolled init for Wolf?"

[tomb] Clem says, "I should have cast Fly and not Dimension Door, as I was originally going to."

[tomb] GM says, "sure, if you want him to get involved in the combat"

[tomb] Clem says, "But it seemed less fun."

[tomb] Elgran asks (of gm), "can I roll it now?"

GM says, "ok, if you have quickdraw, drawing the staff is a free action; otherwise, it's part of your move action and you can only take one attack"

GM says, "(dropping the bow is free)"

[tomb] dfan says, "You are all fighting this, btw: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/MM35_gallery/MM35_PG180.jpg"

Elgran asks, "I don't have quickdraw, but does that stack with the Haste to give me two attacks still?"

GM says, "I'm afraid not, because you're doing a single attack rather than a "full attack""

Elgran says, "or is it just one anyway cause it's not a full attack"

GM says, "yeah"

Elgran says, "gotcha"

GM says, "next round"

GM says, "er, next round you can have the extra"

GM says, "IF YOU SURVIVE"

GM says, "it's got AC 17, roll away"

Elgran rolls 1d20+14 for attq1: 11+14 | 25

Elgran rolls 1d6+5: 1+5 | 6

GM says, "nice work"

Elgran says, "I gotta start remembering to use power attack"

GM says, "yeah, probably"

GM says, "ok, you whap it a good one"

GM asks, "Clem, what's up?"

[tomb] Elgran asks, "wait, it didn't get an AoO?"

Clem says, "Bogus, I'm all out of dimension doors."

dfan says (to GM), "You'll have to shout, he's 100 feet away"

[tomb] Elgran says, "I mean, I don't want to get hit, but"

[tomb] GM asks, "what for?"

[tomb] Elgran says, "okay, nevermind"

[tomb] dfan says, "Drawing a weapon doesn't provoke an AaO"

[tomb] GM says, "yeah, and melee attacks don't either -- just attacking with your bow would have"

Clem says, "Okay, time to run like crazy towards the manticore."

[tomb] Elgran says, "oh"

[tomb] Elgran says, "see, that's what confused me"

Clem says, "Probably making a certain amount of noise."

GM says, "you could cast spiritual hammer or something if you have that memorized"

GM says, "ok, Clem runs over"

Elgran exclaims (at Clem), "This is a strange time for exercise!"

GM exclaims, "Paulie!"

[tomb] Clem checks out Spiritual Weapon.

[tomb] Paulie says, "If you had been here when I'd hasted, then you might be fast enough to get somewhere this round."

[tomb] GM says, "hee hee"

Paulie throws a scorching ray at the manticore.

[tomb] Clem says, "I wanted to voomf!"

Paulie rolls 1d20+11: 10+11 | 21

[tomb] Paulie says, "That's a ranged touch attack."

GM says, "its touch AC is 11, so that is definitely a hit"

Paulie rolls 4d6: 1 1 5 4 | 11

GM asks, "it doesn't get a save, right?"

GM says, "(spells requiring you to make attack rolls rarely require saves)"

[tomb] Paulie says, "My notes don't mention one."

[tomb] Paulie says, "Nor SR."

GM says, "ok, you singe off some of its feathers or fur or something"

GM exclaims, "next round, the manticore!"

GM says, "it will now take a full attack on Elgran, since he's right there"

Elgran says, "AC 21"

You roll 1d20+10: 13+10 | 23

You roll 1d20+10: 10+10 | 20

You roll 1d20+8: 10+8 | 18

GM says, "it claws you once with one of its lion paws, but you dodge the other claw and its bite"

You roll 2d4+5: 4 2+5 | 11

GM says, "it does 11 damage with its mighty paw"

GM asks, "what do you do in response?"

GM says, "(I assume that AC 21 includes your +1 bonus from the haste spell, not that it mattered)"

Elgran asks, "it's my attack again?"

Elgran says, "oh, whoops, forgot that. not that it mattered"

GM says, "yep, you're up"

GM says, "don't forget the +1 to hit from haste, the extra attack from haste, and power attack"

Elgran asks, "if I get three attacks the round, what bonus does the third use? my second attack bonus again?"

GM says, "I *think* it uses your max, let's see"

GM says, "yes, it does"

[tomb] GM says (to Paulie), "might be worth noting that"

GM says, "extra attacks from magic or skills are almost always at your full attack bonus"

Elgran says, "excellent. then it is two two-handed attacks (four attacks) and one two-handed followup (using the extra attack)"

[tomb] Paulie says, "For Grog? Yeah."

Elgran asks, "what's it's AC?"

GM says, "17"

[tomb] Clem says (to Elgran), "Nice."

Elgran says, "I will divert 6 from each to damage using power attack"

Elgran says, "1st go:"

Elgran rolls 1d20+9: 17+9 | 26

Elgran says, "and the damage"

Elgran rolls 1d6+10: 4+10 | 14

Elgran rolls 1d6+8: 3+8 | 11

GM says, "sorry, one sec"

Elgran asks, "what did I screw up?"

GM asks, "are you using the staff as a two-handed weapon, or as two one-handed weapons?"

Elgran says, "as two one-handed weapons"

[tomb] Clem says, "Screw the ends, just hit it with the middle."

GM says, "ok, you get a total of one extra attack per round with your weapon when you do that"

GM says, "unless I'm misunderstanding these rules"

Elgran asks, "okay, so I can do one more two-handed attack?"

GM says, "yeah"

GM says, "well"

GM says, "you should get one attack with the primary end of the weapon at full BAB from being you"

Elgran says, "I am all confused now. I have probably done this wrong"

GM says, "you should get one attack with the primary end of the weapon at the -5 BAB from making a second attack in the round"

GM says, "you should get one attack with the primary end of the weapon at full BAB from doing two-weapon fighting"

GM says, "and you should get one attack with the primary end of the weapon at full BAB from the haste spell"

Elgran asks, "where does the other end of the weapon come in, then?"

GM says, "whoops -- the third one is "one attack with the secondary end of the weapon at full BAB from doing two-weapon fighting""

Elgran asks, "at full BAB or at -5?"

Elgran says, "ah"

GM says, "also, all these attacks suffer a -2 to hit because you're doing two-weapon fighting"

Elgran says, "okay, I've done one full BAB for each end"

GM says, "(it would be greater but your skills and feats reduce it)"

GM says, "right"

Elgran says, "right, that's figured in, I think. although now I want to go re-check all my notes"

Clem says, "And those two would still hit at -2."

GM says, "ok, let's assume it's figured in, and check later"

Elgran says, "okay"

GM says, "so do one more at the same number (for the haste) and one more at -5"

Elgran asks, "so now I get one more primary end at -5, and then a last primary end at full?"

Elgran says, "okay"

Elgran rolls 1d20+9: 15+9 | 24

Elgran rolls 1d6+10: 2+10 | 12

Elgran rolls 1d20+4: 20+4 | 24

Elgran says, "ooh"

GM says, "ok, so that's a threat"

Elgran says, "that was attack/damage/attack"

GM says, "so roll again to see if it's a critical hit"

Elgran asks, "does the critical check get the same bonus?"

GM says, "yes"

Elgran rolls 1d20+4: 18+4 | 22

GM says, "nice work"

Clem says, "Awesome."

Elgran asks, "so, 2d6+10?"

GM says, "+20, actually"

GM says, "I am pretty sure"

Elgran rolls 2d6+120: 1 4+120 | 125

GM says, "ha ha"

Elgran says, "whoops"

Clem says, "Ha ha ha."

Elgran says, "stupid backspace"

[tomb] Clem says, "Manticore soup!"

Elgran says, "anyway, 25"

Elgran asks, "um, how many HPs did this manticore start with?"

GM asks, "ok, so 37 total so far?"

Elgran says, "14, 11, 12, 25"

GM says, "wow"

Clem asks, "Did you count the original two attacks?"

GM says, "sorry, I forgot -- in that case, your third blow knocks it to the ground and your fourth blow reduces to rations for the next week"

GM says, "er, reduces *it* to"

[tomb] Elgran says, "I knew this build was wonderfully twinky"

GM says, "hooray, good work"

[tomb] GM asks, "do we have time to keep going?"

[tomb] Elgran says, "I do"

Clem asks, "puff puff puff hey where did the manticore go?"

[tomb] Clem says, "Sure."

dfan says, "Manti-CORPSE"

[tomb] Elgran says, "but it's not 3 am for me"

[tomb] GM says, "ok then"

Paulie asks, "Now that this distraction be taken care of, where be that monster?"

[tomb] GM says, "that was a CR 5 creature, so it should have been pretty easy"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Time for Grog to arriveOM, perhaps."

GM exclaims (at Paulie), "you notice something strange about the manticore's head!!"

[tomb] Clem says, "I have some big holes in my armour, but apart from that, sure."

GM says, "(besides being the head of an old man on the body of a lion)"

Paulie peers at its head.

GM exclaims (at Paulie), "it has a leather collar around its neck!"

Paulie removes it.

GM says, "there is a tag on the collar, reading "If found, please return to Ed, Sinister Cave, Northern Hills""

Clem says, "You don't think--!"

Paulie says, "Aye, I do."

Clem says, "!"

Elgran asks, "Where are we in relation to the Northern Hills?"

Elgran says, "asks the guy who supposedly knows where he is"

GM says (to Elgran), "they're, uh, north of here some"

Elgran exclaims, "Let's go!"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Yeah, I'm sure we've all poured plenty of points into Knowledge(grography)."

[tomb] GM says, "ha ha"

[tomb] GM says, "knowing how to find your way around the bottom of a mug"

Clem says, "You probably want to pick those fragments of manticore spine out of your staff, by the way."

GM asks, "ok, does anyone want to heal up first?"

[tomb] Elgran says, "I only have K(Dungeoneering) and K(Nature)"

Paulie asks, "How many hours walk, to these hills?"

GM says, "an hour"

Elgran says (to Clem), "It's darkwood, always has a nice shine."

Clem says, "Okay, I'll break out the rod of cure light wounds."

GM says, "but it's good exercise"

Elgran picks up his bow again.

Paulie armors himself and his familiar, then.

Clem says, "Which has a bunch of charges and is 1d8+1."

GM says (to Clem), "ok, we should probably count the charges, but I'll assume you use it until everyone is healed up"

Elgran says, "Thanks, friend"

[tomb] Paulie says (to GM), "It has 50+N charges."

[tomb] GM says, "exactly"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Where N is however many we use in this prologue."

GM says, "meanwhile, you guys make tracks for the northern hills"

GM says, "up ahead you see a large and sinister cave, from which you can hear voices"

[tomb] Elgran says, "ha ha"

[tomb] Paulie says, "And Grog mysteriously joins the party en route."

Clem says, "Somewhere along the way I'm going to cast Longstrider on myself."

GM says, "it appears that Ed and Ned are having an argument with Fred and Jed"

Clem says, "So I can finally move at 30ft."

GM says (to Clem), "a wily plan"

Clem says, "For 9 hours, looks like."

GM says, "that'll keep them from ditching you"

Paulie exclaims (at Clem), "Hey, wait up!"

Elgran waves at everyone and makes various signs until they realize he wants to sneak up and explore.

GM says (to Elgran), "ok, move silently, DC 15"

Elgran rolls 1d20+17: 2+17 | 19

Elgran sneak sneak tiptoe sneak

GM says, "you slip through the grasses with ease and make it to the edge of the cave"

Elgran peer around corner of cave entrance.

GM exclaims, "peering in, you see two hideous monstrosities inside!!"

Elgran (quietly) recoils.

Clem asks (of Paulie), "Hey, how's he going to signal us? Do you know sign language?"

GM exclaims, "at least ten feet tall with two heads each, these mighty ettins look both scary and dirty!"

GM says, "(I am not sure what the dirt has to do with it, but it's mentioned in their description)"

Elgran asks, "wait, are the two monstrosities two ettins, or the two heads on one ettin?"

GM says, "a total of two torsos and four heads"

Paulie says (to Clem), "Shh."

Elgran says, "egads"

Elgran turns back and makes vague two-headed beast hand signs

GM says, "hee hee"

Elgran listens. Are they talking?

Clem asks, "Hmm... antlers?"

Clem asks, "Stag?"

[tomb] Elgran says, "(not, I add, a two-backed beast)"

GM says, "yeah, they're arguing over when the manticore will be back and whose job it is to bathe it when it does"

Elgran sneak back sneak back

GM says, "then they say "perhaps we should pass away the time by doing something chaotic evil to that nearby village""

Elgran listen again

GM says, "no, that's allk"

GM says, "just, you know, justification for slaying them"

Elgran says, "oh, that"

GM says, "but it does seem like they'll be coming out soonish"

Paulie . o O ( Why would two chaotic evil ettins keep a *lawful* evil pet? It doesn't add up! )

Elgran sneak back tell everyone

[tomb] GM says, "yay"

Clem asks, "Oh, ettins. Why didn't you say?"

Elgran says (to paulie), "if the pet was CE, it wouldn't obey their evil schemes"

Paulie haste haste (including Clem)

Clem asks, "Those are like bunnies, right?"

Elgran says (to Clem), "Very, except for being large"

[tomb] Elgran asks, "are ettins natural?"

[tomb] Elgran asks, "or, perhaps, do they live in dungeons?"

[tomb] GM says, "they are Large Giants"

[tomb] Elgran says, "drat"

Clem asks, "So do we just wade in there and smush them, or should we attempt cunning?"

[tomb] Elgran says, "no knowledge checks for weaknesses from me"

[tomb] Paulie says, "They live in cold hills."

Clem says, "Maybe set some kind of trap outside."

Elgran asks (of Clem), "WHat kind of cunning did you have in mind?"

Paulie says (to Clem), "You look to be good at wading."

Clem says, "Tripwire across the entrance, maybe."

Elgran asks, "We could, um, dig a bit pit in front of their cave?"

[tomb] Paulie says, "It's a good thing talking's a free action."

[tomb] Clem says, "We're talking extra-fast!"

[tomb] Elgran asks, "can you tell Int was my dump stat?"

[tomb] GM says, "I think we can assume you held off on the haste spell until you worked out whatever plan"

Paulie says, "We could just kill 'em."

Clem says, "I don't much fancy fighting them inside, so I say we taunt them out."

Paulie says, "And loot the cave for sweet, sweet ettin booty."

Clem says, "In fact if we could get them one at a time in the entrance that'd be nice."

GM says, "unless you can magically create the trap or it's something simple like a tripwire (and someone has a relevant skill) I think you'd better give that a miss"

GM says, "the entrance is only wide enough for one, it's true"

Elgran says, "if we take a nap and wait for tomorrow, I could prepare Entangle"

GM says, "unless they turn sideways and suck in their stomachs"

Elgran says, "or Snare"

GM exclaims (at Elgran), "there's no time for that!!"

Clem says, "Okay, how about I stand out front and taunt them, you two hide at the sides."

Paulie pulls out a rope.

GM says, "hey, then you'd get flanking bonuses"

GM says, "plus a sneak attack for Paulie"

Clem says, "If somebody wants to try setting down a rope too, that's cool."

Paulie asks, "How about I tie them up?"

Clem says, "Let's kill them, then tie them up."

Elgran says (to Paulie), "if you can do that before the fight that'd be neat to see"

Elgran says, "I can go with the taunt plan"

Elgran says, "Although you don't much look like a kender to me."

Paulie says (to Elgran), "Alright, that I'll do, then."

Clem asks, "Are you two okay to sneak up and hide by the entrance?"

Elgran sneak sneak more sneak

Paulie says, "Someone just needs to put this rope by the entrance, where they'll be standing."

Elgran says (to Paulie), "okay"

Paulie casts Animate Rope and gives it to Elgran.

GM says, "oho, wily"

Elgran sneak sneak place rope sneak

Clem says, "I'll cast Bull's Strength on myself -- +4 strength for 9 minutes."

GM asks, "ok, are the two of you guys still going to stay near the entrance while Clem taunts them out?"

Elgran says, "I am"

[tomb] Paulie says, "So I am just going to assume that we do everything timed in the most logical way."

Clem says, "Once they're in place I just clank up there and call them out."

[tomb] GM says, "yeah, including the haste spell"

GM says, "ok, you guys get in position"

GM says (to Clem), "let's hear you call them out"

Clem says, "Hey there, I hear the four ugliest dudes in the county are hidin' out in this here cave!"

Clem says, "I bet not one of you can take one little cleric!"

GM says, "luckily they only have Int 6, and that's divided across two heads"

Paulie prepares a 'command rope' action to trigger when the ettin comes out.

Clem says, "Taste for mutton, eh? Too chicken to try for humans, that's what I say!"

GM says, "so Ned and Ed go charging out, whereupon they have to make a reflex saving throw to avoid being entangled by the rope"

Paulie exclaims (at Rope), "Entangle!"

[tomb] Clem asks, "'+4 enhancement bonus to strength' basically means an extra +2 bonus, right?"

GM says (to Paulie), "what's the DC here? the spell doesn't say, but let's assume it's the normal DC for a spell of yours"

[tomb] GM says, "yep"

[tomb] GM says, "to attack, damage, etc"

[tomb] Clem says, "Got it."

[tomb] Paulie says, "That makes sense. Of course, I forgot to check what my save DC's are..."

[tomb] GM | A saving throw against your spell has a DC of 10 + the level of the spell + your bonus for the relevant ability (Intelligence for a wizard, Charisma for a sorcerer or bard, or Wisdom for a cleric, druid, paladin, or ranger).

[tomb] GM says, "so you're a level 6 sorcerer, and this is a level 1 spell"

[tomb] GM says, "so it's 17 + your cha modifier"

[tomb] Clem says, "Charm that rope!"

[tomb] GM says, "er, if I remember right"

[tomb] Paulie says, "10+1+3+7"

[tomb] GM says, "he's only got a +2 reflex, so I'll just roll and see if it matters"

[tomb] GM says, "cool"

You roll 1d20+2: 13+2 | 15

[tomb] Clem asks, "Does the level 6 really stack up too?"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Hmm. It doesn't actually mention caster level in there, does it?"

GM says, ""whoah! gar! I'm entangled and suffer a -2 to attack rolls and -4 to dexterity! furthermore I move at half speed and cannot charge!""

[tomb] Clem says, "I read that as 10 + 1 + cha."

[tomb] GM says, "whoah, whoops"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Which makes it just 13, unfortunately."

[tomb] GM says, "ok, I guess he's not in fact entangled"

GM says, ""Sorry, false alarm," he adds"

Clem says, "Chaaarrge!"

GM says, "it seems like that's a free action for you, though"

GM says, "so the three of you guys, go ahead and roll initiative"

Clem rolls d20-1 for init: 17-1 | 16

Elgran rolls 1d20+8 for init: 13+8 | 21

GM says, "this is the surprise round, and you can make a standard action only (instead of a full action), and next round I'll roll for Ed/Ned and we'll go from there"

[tomb] Clem asks, "Hang on, does Haste affect initiative?"

Elgran asks, "standard action means only one attack?"

GM says, "right"

Elgran asks, "even with two weapons?"

Elgran says, "(I am sorry to keep bringing this up but it turns out I have no clue how this works after all)"

Clem says, "I can saw your staff in two if that'd help."

Elgran says, "Um, no."

GM says, "hmm, it looks like you get a second attack"

GM says, "I didn't think this was the case, but I can't find proof, so go ahead and take it"

Elgran asks, "also, did Paulie roll init yet?"

Clem asks, "And do I get a surprise attack?"

Clem says, "I was assuming not."

GM says (to Clem), "sure, what the hell"

GM says (to Elgran), "ok, not sure what's keeping Paulie, but let's go ahead and you roll"

Paulie rolls 1d20+7 for init: 20+7 | 27

GM says, "oh, waity"

Elgran says, "see? glad I waited"

GM | If you get more than one attack per round because your base attack bonus is high enough, because you fight with two weapons or a double weapon or for some special reason you must use a full-round action to get your additional attacks.

Elgran says, "also, nice"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Sorry, my connection has realized I'm playing an RPG."

[tomb] GM says, "hee hee"

Elgran says (to gm), "ah ha"

GM says, "so I'm afraid you only get the one attack"

Elgran says, "okay, thanks"

GM says (to Paulie), "ok, so go for it"

Paulie scorches some more ray.

GM says (to Paulie), "you and Elgran are flanking the ettin because you're on opposite sides, so you each get +2 to hit and you can make a sneak attack if you desire"

GM says, "in fact, since the ray has you make an attack roll it's still a sneak attack"

Elgran asks, "what is a sneak attack?"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Yay"

GM says, "a special rogue skill that lets you add bonus dice to your damage"

Paulie rolls 1d20+11: 5+11 | 16

Elgran says, "sweet"

GM says, "it's like backstab from 2nd edition, only more codified"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Is that a hit?"

[tomb] GM says, "whoops, sorry, yes, if that's a touch attack"

Paulie rolls 4d6: 3 5 2 1 | 11

Paulie rolls 2d6: 6 1 | 7

Paulie furls a bolt of flame directly at the ettin's 'vitals'.

GM says, "fwoomf"

GM says, "ok, you blast its hide"

GM says, "Ed says "hey, what happened?""

GM says, "Elgran, your turn"

Elgran asks, "they're both in front of us?"

GM says, "one's in the cave, one's right next to you"

Elgran says, "gotcha"

Elgran asks, "what's the AC?"

GM says, "18"

Elgran says, "switching 5 from hit to damage"

Elgran rolls 1d20+9: 3+9 | 12

Elgran says, "and whoosh"

GM says, "oops"

GM asks, "ok, Clem?"

[tomb] Elgran says, "but the extra 5 would have still missed, so eh"

Clem says, "My sword surprisingly bursts into flame! SWOOSH SMASH!"

GM says, "hee hee"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Actually, I never took my move-equivalent -- can I still do that?"

Clem says, "Hmm, let's see, my main attack is up to +13"

[tomb] GM says, "no, you only get one standard action on the suprise round"

[tomb] GM says, "(not a standard + move)"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Oh, surprise round, OK."

Clem rolls 1d20+13: 13+13 | 26

[tomb] GM says, "sorry, I should have clarified"

GM exclaims, "a mighty blow!"

[tomb] Elgran says, "actually, wait, it would have, cause I forgot the +1 from haste again. oh well anyway"

GM says, "next time use some power attack"

Elgran says, "nice"

Clem says, "Well, I wanted to make sure somebody hit it."

GM says, "hee hee"

Clem says, "I assume it's vulnerable to fire."

Clem says, "Or not resistant"

GM says, "yeah, it takes normal damage"

Clem rolls 3d6+7: 4 4 2+7 | 17

Elgran says, "also nice"

GM says, "not too shabby"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Hmm. Should my scorching ray have gotten an AoO, since it was a ranged attack?"

[tomb] Elgran says, "not if the ettin is surprised"

[tomb] Elgran says, "I think"

[tomb] GM says, "yeah, what Elgran said"

[tomb] GM says, "it's flat-footed and can't take AoOs until it gets an action"

[tomb] Elgran treasures the feeling of having internalized one whole rule

GM says, "ok, so you guys stay at your init rolls, and I will roll for Ed/Ned"

You roll 1d20+3: 4+3 | 7

GM says, "ha ha"

GM says, "ok, now you can take full attacks"

GM says, "Paulie first"

GM says, "(or a move and an attack or whatever you like)"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Also, should I be rolling my concentration checks for defensive casting?"

GM says, "(but note that if Elgran or Paulie steps away from the ettin, they won't be flanking it any more)"

[tomb] Elgran asks, "what benefit does flanking give me?"

Paulie says (as a move action), "Entangle!"

[tomb] GM says, "you only have to do that to avoid an AoO; since it can't do one, it doesn't matter yet"

[tomb] Clem says, "If you have some flaming oil or something to chuck into the cave, that could be fun."

Paulie then does some more flamity.

[tomb] GM says (to Elgran), "sorry, I should have repeated that, since it would have made you hit -- it's +2 to hit"

[tomb] Elgran says (to clem), "I am all out"

Paulie rolls 1d20+11: 18+11 | 29

[tomb] Elgran says (to gm), "oh ah"

GM says, "that would be a hit"

[tomb] Elgran says, "so I'm at a situational +3. got it"

Paulie rolls 4d6 for scordam: 4 1 2 1 | 8

Paulie rolls 2d6 for sneak: 1 5 | 6

GM says, ""Hey, what happened?" says Ned"

GM says, "the ettin, overall, is not looking too good"

GM says (to Elgran), "ok, your turn"

Elgran says, "they started not looking good"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Did the ettin roll another reflex save?"

[tomb] Paulie says, "For the second entangling attempt."

Elgran says, "okay, full attack, primary end, light end, primary end -5, two-handed. switching 7 to damage for everything"

[tomb] Elgran waits for this

[tomb] GM says, "right, sorry"

You roll 1d20+2: 6+2 | 8

GM exclaims, "grar!"

GM says, "ok, now the ettin is entangled for real"

GM says (to Elgran), "this doesn't affect its AC, just its attack rolls, though"

Elgran says, "okay"

GM says, "at least, I don't think it does -- maybe it should be suffering a -2 from the -4 dex"

Elgran asks, "well, it didn't have the dex bonus anyway, being flat-footed, right?"

GM says, "whew, good point"

Elgran asks, "it's AC is still 18?"

GM says, "no, wait"

[tomb] Paulie exclaims, "And more importantly, his spellcasting will be hampered!"

GM says, "ok, I'm pretty sure dex penalties still apply"

Elgran says, "oh cool"

GM says, "and I'm pretty sure that this -4 to dex applies"

GM says, "so I think it's AC 16"

Elgran says, "sweetness"

Elgran says, "okay, attack as I just said, then"

GM says, "ok, roll away"

Elgran rolls 1d20+10: 11+10 | 21

Elgran rolls 1d6+11: 3+11 | 14

Elgran rolls 1d20+10: 15+10 | 25

Elgran rolls 1d6+9: 2+9 | 11

Elgran rolls 1d20+5: 18+5 | 23

Elgran rolls 1d6+11: 5+11 | 16

Elgran rolls 1d20+10: 14+10 | 24

Elgran rolls 1d6+12: 5+12 | 17

Clem says, "Zowie."

GM says, "nice work"

Elgran whiff bam smack bop whoosh...smack!

GM says, "ok, your quarterstaff finishes off this guy too"

GM exclaims, "meanwhile, Clem turns around to see that Jed/Fred has inexplicably found a back entrance from the cave and is charging around towards him!"

GM says, "(but hasn't reached him yet)"

Clem says, "Look out! He's coming from behind!"

GM says (to Clem), "so you can take your action, and then Jed/Fred will roll init next round"

Clem asks, "How far away is he?"

GM says, "say, uh, 20 feet"

Clem says, "Let's just jump forward and smash him."

GM says, "note also that as an Ettin, he has 10 feet of reach"

GM says, "whereas you only have 5"

Clem asks, "How does that work out?"

GM says, "which means that he'll get an attack of opportunity on you as you have to close on him"

[tomb] Paulie exclaims, "Cliff! He's going to jump back -- make sure to aim him at the edge of the cliff!"

GM asks, "still ok with closing?"

Clem says, "Aw, sure."

Clem says, "RAR"

GM says, "alrighty, he'll roll his attack first"

You roll 1d20+12: 10+12 | 22

GM exclaims, "a mighty morningstar!"

You roll 2d6+6: 5 5+6 | 16

GM says, "SMASH"

Clem says, "CLANG OW"

GM says, "ok, now you have closed to 5' of him, and can make a standard (one) attack"

Clem says, "Still at 13, and let's try putting 3 of that towards power attack."

Clem rolls 1d20+10: 17+10 | 27

GM says, "BLAM"

GM says, "that would be a hit"

Clem says, "And that doubles for a two-handed weapon, I believe."

GM says, "it does indeed"

Clem rolls 3d6+13: 6 2 5+13 | 26

Clem says, "POWIE"

[tomb] Elgran says, "nice"

GM says, "ok, next round, I'll roll init for Jed/Fred, and then we'll see how everyone goes"

You roll 1d20+3: 14+3 | 17

GM says, "ok, so Paulie, Elgran, Jed/Fred, Clem"

Clem says, "Hit points, don't fail me now!"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Hmm. I need more variety in my offensive spells."

[tomb] GM says, "ha ha"

[tomb] GM asks, "scorching ray again?"

[tomb] Clem asks, "How many of the scorchy one can you cast?"

[tomb] Paulie says, "I suppose so."

[tomb] Elgran says, "Bigby's Nauseating Smell"

[tomb] GM says, "he's a sorcerer, so he can cast a bunch of whatever he can cast"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Six."

[tomb] GM says, "but it's true he doesn't have the variety"

Paulie rolls 1d20+11: 10+11 | 21

GM exclaims, "a hit!"

Paulie rolls 4d6 for scordam: 1 3 5 4 | 13

Paulie rolls 2d6 for sneak: 6 6 | 12

GM says, "no sneak attack this time, sorry"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Oh, right."

GM says, "you need to actually be next to the guy"

GM says, "but you still blast him pretty good"

[tomb] Clem says, "I only have Searing Light and Spiritual Weapon here."

[tomb] GM says, "man, you guys and your non-smashing"

[tomb] GM says, "wtf"

GM asks, "anyway, Elgran?"

Elgran asks, "how far am I?"

[tomb] Clem says, "Well, plus Bull's Strength."

GM says, "30 feet"

[tomb] GM says, "good point"

[tomb] Paulie says, "I need to look into what situations deny Dex bonuses."

Elgran asks, "okay, can I move 10 feet, then throw a dagger?"

[tomb] Clem says, "Dimension Door turns out to be a little trickier in combat situations."

GM says, "yep"

Elgran says, "then let's do that"

[tomb] GM says, "normally it works better than it did this time, I think"

[tomb] Elgran says, "from 20' it's +12, by my notes"

[tomb] GM says, "ok, AC 18"

[tomb] Elgran asks, "can I use power attack on a thrown dagger?"

[tomb] Clem says, "I'm a city cleric, I can't judge distances out here in the plains."

[tomb] GM says, "apparently not"

[tomb] Elgran says, "okay"

[tomb] GM says, "there is some feat which lets you do so, which seems stupid to me, but whatever"

[tomb] GM says, "hee hee"

Elgran rolls 1d20+12: 12+12 | 24

GM exclaims, "a mighty dagger thrust!"

Elgran rolls 1d4+3: 4+3 | 7

[tomb] Elgran says, "okay, I gotta go back over all my notes"

GM says, ""arble garble blargh" says the guy"

[tomb] Elgran says, "these numbers came from pcgen and I totally don't trust them"

GM exclaims, "then he smites Clem with a blow from each of his morningstars!"

Clem brace brace

You roll 1d20+12: 15+12 | 27

[tomb] Elgran says, "I am sure they are entirely accurate: I just can't argue why"

You roll 1d20+12: 1+12 | 13

Clem says, "Yikes, two heads, I guess."

You roll 2d6+6: 3 6+6 | 15

Clem dodge CLANG

GM says, "yeah, he doesn't get the normal penalty because he's got two heads and "superior two-weapon fighting""

GM says, "but he does do 15 hp"

GM exclaims, "now, Clem's turn!"

Clem says, "I have plenty of healing power and I seem to be getting the better of him toe to toe."

Clem asks, "I'm still hasted, right?"

GM says, "yep"

GM says, "so you can make, uh, three attacks, I guess"

Clem asks, "So two full attacks and a secondary?"

GM says, "yeah"

Clem says, "I'll stick at 3 power attack, so 10/10/5"

Clem rolls 1d20+10: 1+10 | 11

GM says, "(technically a "full attack" is to make a primary and any secondary attacks, but I know what you mean)"

Clem rolls 1d20+10: 19+10 | 29

Clem rolls 1d20+5: 1+5 | 6

GM says, "ha ha"

GM says, "wtf"

Clem swings wildly!

GM asks, "is that 19 a critical threat?"

Elgran says, "ow"

Clem says, "It is!"

GM says, "hooray"

GM says, "ok, roll to confirm"

Clem asks, "+10 again?"

Elgran asks, "is a natural 1 not a fumble?"

GM says, "yeah, always the same roll to confirm"

Clem rolls 1d20+10: 9+10 | 19

GM says, "fumbles don't exist in 3e"

Elgran says, "woo"

Elgran says, "also, woo"

GM exclaims, "a mighty critical!"

Clem says, "Okay, holy crap, this is a lot of damage."

GM says, "ok, he's almost certainly dead, but let's see the damagwe"

GM says, "note that the 1d6 doesn't increase from a critical"

Clem says, "3d6+7+6, doubled."

GM says, "er, the 1d6 from flaming"

[tomb] Elgran says, "once, playing 1st ed, I shot my bow, got a fumble, rolled on the miss chart, and ended up putting an arrow in the mage's back"

[tomb] Elgran says, "that sucked"

GM says, "because it's a "bonus die" rather than a bonus fixed number"

Clem asks, "Aha, so 5d6+26?"

[tomb] GM says, "ha ha oops"

GM says, "yeah, sounds right"

Clem rolls 5d6+26: 4 6 4 3 2+26 | 45

Elgran says, "wooo"

GM exclaims, "you cleave the ettin in twain!!"

Clem says, "FORE"

Elgran says, "hey, now it's just two crippled giants"

GM says, "hee hee"

Elgran says, "crippled, burning, giants"

Paulie tosses the collar onto the corpse.

[tomb] GM asks, "ok, do we have time for one more of these, or is it too late for Iain?"

Current time: Thursday, 29 Dec 2005, 22:16:59

[tomb] Clem says, "I'm fine, this is fun."

[tomb] Paulie asks, "That depends, how many scorching rays have I cast?"

[tomb] Clem says, "Although I think I may have to round out Clem's repertoire a little after this."

[tomb] GM says, "hee hee"

[tomb] Clem asks, "Er, what damage did I take, again?"

[tomb] GM says, "uh, 15 and something else"

[tomb] GM says, "but you have time to use the wand again and heal up"

Paulie says (to Rope), "Coil neatly."

GM says, "it coils itself up neatly"

GM says, "ok then"

Paulie puts it away.

Clem says, "We won! Hurrah! Ouch!"

GM asks, "but what -- what's that crevice in the back of the cave, leading deeper into the mountain?"

Paulie says, "Aye. Time for looting, I do believe."

[tomb] Clem says, "(15 and 16)"

Elgran says, "And now these woods shall be at peace"

[tomb] Clem says, "Gee, that's like six charges."

[tomb] Clem says, "One wand isn't going to go far."

Elgran exclaims, "A crevice! we should follow!"

GM says, "and, in fact, the ettin's cave is suspiciously bare of treasure, save a few smelly furs and some animal bones"

Paulie goes into the cave and casts Detect Secret Door.

Clem is still healing up.

[tomb] Elgran says, "hey, I get my free secret door checks"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Well, I'm assuming there aren't actually any here."

[tomb] GM says, "yeah, it's pretty much just the crevice leading deeper"

[tomb] Paulie says, "But it's on my spell list, and it doesn't count against my scorching rays, so I cast it."

[tomb] GM says, "hee hee"

[tomb] Elgran says, "ha"

GM says, "ok, the tunnel leads onwards into the mountain"

Elgran leads in

GM says, "now I must ask the best GM question ever"

GM says, "namely, WHAT IS YOUR MARCHING ORDER"

Elgran exclaims, "yay!"

Paulie is second-to-last.

Elgran exclaims, "I'm first!"

Clem says, "Hey, wait up you guys!"

[tomb] Paulie says, "I keep meaning to include Grog, then forgetting him."

[tomb] GM says, "poor guy"

[tomb] Paulie says, "But he can march behind me if Clem would like to be ahead."

Elgran turns to Wolf. "Stay! Guard! Eat ettin! Good boy."

[tomb] Clem says, "Okay, I'll go second, then."

GM says, "hee hee"

[tomb] Clem says, "Elgran or Wolf may want to scout ahead a little because I'm pretty noisy."

GM exclaims, "as you move along, you might trigger a trap!!"

GM says (to Elgran), "roll a DC 20 search check"

Elgran rolls 1d20+12: 13+12 | 25

GM exclaims, "you spot a tripwire on the floor ahead of you, and pull up just in time!"

[tomb] Paulie says, "I hope dfan is taking notes. This is exactly how I will expect him to run things."

Elgran says, "Whew, close one."

Elgran asks (of Paulie), "Hey, can you disable this device?"

GM says, "hee hee"

Paulie exclaims, "Not very well!"

[tomb] Paulie says, "That's baf's job."

[tomb] Elgran says, "true"

Elgran says, "Okay, step over this"

Elgran says, "that includes you, man in armor"

Paulie exclaims, "I can do that!"

GM says, "ok, everyone make a DC 10 reflex save to step over"

Clem says, "Er um"

Paulie rolls 1d20+10: 11+10 | 21

Elgran rolls 1d20+10: 3+10 | 13

Clem says, "My bull's strength has worn off! And these boots are heavy!"

Clem rolls d20+2 for reflex: 1+2 | 3

GM says, "ha ha ha"

Clem says, "Ha ha ha ha ha"

Elgran says, "I said...."

[tomb] Paulie says, "I suppose my roll is not entirely relevant."

Clem says, "Oh, step over *that*..."

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Actually, did Clem type 'd20' instead of '1d20'?"

[tomb] Clem says, "Oh, I did."

[tomb] GM says, "curse it all"

[tomb] GM says, "ok, you'd better roll again"

[tomb] Clem asks, "Wait, isn't there something about taking 10?"

[tomb] Clem says, "I guess that doesn't apply when the DC is 10 because that'd be silly."

[tomb] Paulie says, "For things where there's no penalty for failure."

Clem rolls 1d20+10: 16+10 | 26

Clem says, "Er, not+10, shit."

GM says, "fine, cleric, you've escaped my trap .. THIS time"

[tomb] Elgran asks, "so d20 only works with macros?"

[tomb] Elgran asks, "and 1d20 otherwise?"

You roll 1d20: 1 | 1

[tomb] Elgran says, "(for values of works equals doesn't give an error("

[tomb] GM says, "weird"

[tomb] Paulie says, "It is roughly equivalent to doing it over ten times, and assuming you'll get at least 10 one of those times."

[tomb] GM says, "well, sorta"

Paulie rolls 1d20+6: 17+6 | 23

[tomb] Paulie says, "(That is Grog.)"

[tomb] GM says, "the take-20 rule is, you retry until you succeed, so there must be no penalty for failure"

[tomb] GM says, "the take-10 rule is just that you have to not be in a stressful situation, more or less"

GM says, "ok, you guys happily traipse down the tunnel"

You roll 1d20+11: 9+11 | 20

You roll 1d20+11: 5+11 | 16

GM asks, "what are you using for light, by the way?"

[tomb] Elgran asks, "this is just the equivalent of rolling dice behind the GM screen, right?"

[tomb] GM says, "heh heh"

[tomb] Paulie says, "We are using the full 30% of our magic weapons which cast light."

[tomb] GM says, "ha ha"

Elgran pulls out his ... bullseye lantern

[tomb] Paulie says, "Alternately, I could just cast a light spell."

Clem says, "I have a holy symbol that provides light."

[tomb] Elgran says, "do we have three magic weapons? I only have one"

Clem says, "Which normally I wear on the outside."

[tomb] Paulie says, "I've got two."

Elgran puts his lantern back away

GM says, "ok, the light of your various whatsits shows that the tunnel widens up ahead into a large cave, from which you can hear strange noises"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Grog's got one."

GM says, "cackling and snarling and gnashing and burping"

Elgran makes the sneaking around hand gestures again

[tomb] Paulie says, "They seem to have failed their Eat Silently rolls."

[tomb] GM says, "oh"

[tomb] GM says, "also it looks like take 10/20 only apply to skill checks"

[tomb] GM says, "not saving throws"

[tomb] GM says, "which I guess makes sense"

[tomb] Clem asks, "How's Grog for moving silently, by the way?"

[tomb] Clem says, "That makes sense."

[tomb] Paulie says (to Clem), "Only his +2 from Dex."

GM says (to Elgran), "ok, you can sneak into the cave if you want, but it'll be dark"

Elgran asks, "there's eating but no light?"

GM says, "right"

Elgran says, "hmm"

Elgran asks, "based on my extensive knowledge of dungeon lore, can I guess what this is?"

GM says, "sure, make a roll, dc 20"

Elgran says, "and by 'extensive', I mean '5 ranks'"

GM says, "hee hee"

Elgran rolls 1d20+5: 11+5 | 16

Elgran says, "Hmm, I do believe we're in a cave"

Paulie asks, "Ye be sure about that?"

Elgran says, "Okay, here's the plan:"

GM says, "well, you do remember tales of some weird monster that babbles and snarls in a nasty manner"

Elgran says, "we turn out the lights, sneak down there, turn them on, and kill whatever it is while they're more blinded than we are"

GM says, "you also realize that there are things thta live underground that have darkvision and don't need light"

Elgran says, "oh, right, darkvision"

Clem says, "That sounds workable."

Elgran asks, "anyone have that?"

GM says, "Grog does, I think"

Clem says, "I could fly down to reduce the noise."

GM says, "or, hrm, maybe not"

(From Paulie) Grog grunts.

Clem says, "Alternatively we could go in and flood the place with Daylight."

GM says, "yeah, he does"

Clem says, "Which might put them at a disadvantage,"

Elgran says (to Clem), "I left the SUn outside"

Elgran says, "but that does sound doable"

Elgran says, "okay, then let's do that, but put Grog up front"

Elgran says, "that way if it goes slime-mold-shaped, he can yell"

Paulie gestures to Grog, who takes point.

GM asks, "ok, but the rest of you are following with the lights on?"

Elgran says, "lights off"

Clem says, "Okay."

Elgran says, "until Clem casts Daylight, I guess"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Is it time to haste again?"

GM says, "alrighty"

Clem says, "I'll Fly for the purposes of sneaking."

GM says, "ok"

[tomb] Elgran says (to paulie), "probably"

[tomb] Elgran says, "soon I'll forget what my to hit is without being hasted"

GM says, "ok, Grog goes in and has a look, followed by the rest of you"

[tomb] Clem says, "Whoops, I forgot that last time."

GM says, "the burbling and growling gets louder, and Grog instinctively recoils"

GM says, "the weird noises make you dizzy, in fact"

GM says, "everyone should make a DC 13 will save"

Clem rolls 1d20+11 for will: 18+11 | 29

Paulie rolls 1d20+7 for will: 14+7 | 21

Elgran rolls 1d20+5 for will: 4+5 | 9

[tomb] Elgran says, "uh oh"

[tomb] Clem says, "Hmm, I have Silence prepared."

[tomb] GM says, "roll the save first, then you can cast it on your next turn"

[tomb] GM says, "IF YOU SURVIVE"

[tomb] Clem asks, "I did -- how about Grog?"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Oh yeah."

[tomb] GM says, "oh, whoops, so you did"

Paulie rolls 1d20+3 for grogwill: 7+3 | 10

[tomb] Elgran asks, "can I borrow a few points from someone else's roll?"

GM says, "hee hee"

GM says, "ok, Elgran is confused by the noise for, uh"

You roll 1d2: 1 | 1

[tomb] Clem says, "bollocks"

GM says, "1 round"

GM says, "and Grog is confused for"

You roll 1d2: 2 | 2

Elgran says, "Buuh duuuh"

GM says, "2 rounds"

GM says, "(the exact effects of this confusion we will determine later)"

GM says, ""Grah! Monsters! Hideous!" says Grog"

GM says, "or words to that effect"

GM says, "now we must roll initiative"

GM says, "(Grog and Elgran too)"

Clem rolls 1d20-1 for init: 9-1 | 8

Elgran rolls 1d20+8 for init: 19+8 | 27

[tomb] Clem says, "arse"

[tomb] Elgran says, "I am doing nothing very early"

Paulie rolls 1d20+7 for init: 9+7 | 16

Paulie rolls 1d20+2 for groginit: 16+2 | 18

[tomb] Clem says, "Don't worry, I have a spell that might help! Just let me... look it... up... in... my..."

You roll 1d20+1: 15+1 | 16

You roll 1d20+9: 7+9 | 16

You roll 1d20+9: 13+9 | 22

GM says, "ok, so Elgran, Creature 2B, -- uh"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "So who's standing closest to Grog, and who's closest to Elgran?"

Clem says, "I've forgotten the marching order here."

[tomb] Clem says, "It was Elgran, Clem, Paulie, Grog."

[tomb] Clem says, "But then we sent Grog ahead."

[tomb] Elgran says, "until we put grog up front for this"

[tomb] Paulie says, "So now I guess it's Grog, Elgran, Clem, Paulie."

[tomb] Elgran says, "yeah"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Which works great for me."

[tomb] Clem says, "Heh."

GM says, "I believe Paulie and the other creatures should roll again as a tiebreaker"

Paulie rolls 1d20+7 for init: 9+7 | 16

GM says, "(just to determine their relative order, not to change the overall order wrt the other characters)"

You roll 1d20+1: 14+1 | 15

[tomb] Paulie asks, "It's not just Dex next?"

You roll 1d20+9: 13+9 | 22

[tomb] GM says, "it doesn't look like it"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Huh."

[tomb] GM says, "I'm looking at http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/initiativeAndAoO.html"

[tomb] Clem says, "Well, that attempt to sneak up on them failed pretty miserably."

[tomb] Paulie says, "Well, putting Grog in front was probably a bad idea on that count."

[tomb] Clem says, "Our two front guys are hastily recoiling with burst eardrums."

GM says, "so it looks like Elgran, Creature 2B, Grog, Creature 2A, Paulie, Creature 1, Clem"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Since he, y'know, can't sneak."

GM says, "moral: don't try and sneak up on creatures with darkvision"

GM says, "ok, Elgran, roll 1d100 and let's see what you do this round"

Elgran rolls 1d100: 52 | 52

GM exclaims, "ok, your confusion makes you run away!"

Elgran exclaims, "Oh no!"

GM exclaims, "back! out of the cave! into the tunnel!"

Elgran turns and runs

GM exclaims, "inconveniently over the trap again! roll a DC 20 reflex save!"

[tomb] Clem says, "That might be a plan!"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Hee."

[tomb] Elgran asks, "I'm hasted, so I run 120' full round?"

[tomb] Clem says, "Or not!"

Elgran rolls 1d20+10 for reflex: 6+10 | 16

[tomb] GM says, "gosh, I guess so"

[tomb] Clem says, "ha ha ha ha"

[tomb] Elgran asks, "also, trap? what trap?"

GM exclaims, "trigger the trap!"

You roll 1d8: 2 | 2

GM exclaims, "2 spears fly at you!"

You roll 1d20+21: 14+21 | 35

[tomb] Paulie says, "Yay."

You roll 1d20+21: 5+21 | 26

[tomb] Elgran says, "this is great"

[tomb] Clem says, "Man, 1d8 spears"

GM says, "roll 2d8+2"

[tomb] Elgran says, "ow"

You roll 2d8+2: 1 3+2 | 6

GM says, "er, I do"

GM exclaims, "6 hp!"

[tomb] Paulie exclaims, "Less yay!"

GM says, "on the bright side, the confusion wears off now"

[tomb] Elgran says, "oh, okay"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Just in time for you to realize what just happened."

[tomb] Elgran says, "yeah, but it's another full round to run back"

You roll 1d20+12: 11+12 | 23

You roll 1d20+12: 2+12 | 14

GM asks (of Clem), "hey, what's your AC?"

Clem says, "19, +1 for haste, looks like."

GM says, "ok, something slams out of the darkness and bashs you a good one"

You roll 1d6+7: 1+7 | 8

GM says, "for, uh, 8 hp"

GM says, "then something else lashes against your armor, like a big, wet towel"

GM says, "but doesn't do anything as far as you can see"

Clem says, "oh crap"

[tomb] Paulie exclaims, "Aw, it's *kissing* you!"

GM says, "Grog, roll 1d100"

Paulie rolls 1d100: 68 | 68

[tomb] Clem asks, "Whose plan was is to approach them in darkness, again?"

GM says, "Grog, too, runs like hell"

[tomb] Elgran exclaims, "mine!"

[tomb] Elgran exclaims, "with my 10 Int!"

GM says, "I will be merciful and say Elgran has busted the tripwire in his flight"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Fortunately, he is slower than Elgran."

[tomb] Clem says, "And then you abandoned us, then you got caught by the spear trap! This is just like Raiders of the Lost Ark!"

[tomb] GM says, "ha ha"

[tomb] Elgran says, "hee hee"

GM says, "meanwhile, something else attempts to smash and smooch Elgran"

You roll 1d20+12: 2+12 | 14

GM says, "unsuccessfully, I guess"

GM says, "but it's really gross"

Elgran asks, "wait, even though I'm 120' away?"

Elgran says, "oh dear"

GM says, "oh, whoops, sorry"

GM says, "I guess I mean Paulie there"

Elgran says, "whew"

[tomb] Paulie says, "That's a *long* tongue."

[tomb] Elgran says, "I was thinking"

[tomb] Paulie exclaims, "Hey, I'm not supposed to get attacked, I'm the magic-user!"

GM says, "also, I should probably be applying a -4 to your ACs for being in darkness here, but I guess it hasn't mattered up til now"

GM exclaims, "Paulie, go!"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "What's the penalty for ranged attacks when you can't see?"

[tomb] GM says, "I think it's -4"

[tomb] Clem says, "I'm standing in front of you!"

[tomb] GM asks, "do you want to hold your move until Clem?"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Yeah."

[tomb] GM says, "ok"

Clem asks, "Okay, me?"

GM says, "no, Creature 1"

Clem says, "Dang."

You roll 1d20+4: 9+4 | 13

GM says (to Paulie), "something whistles past your head"

[D&D] Rob_2 says, "AC lowers in darkness? huh"

You roll 1d20+4: 10+4 | 14

Paulie whispers (to Featherbeard), "Duck."

GM says (to Paulie), "then some teeth snap shut nearby"

[D&D] GM says, "yeah, I think so -- hitroll lowers too, so it balances if neither can see"

GM exclaims, "ok, Clem!"

Clem says, "I'll flame up my sword, which I guess makes some light."

Clem asks, "Is that enough for me to quickly assess what the hell is going on?"

[D&D] GM says, "oops"

[D&D] BrenBarn says, "whoa, Rob_2"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Do you say 'Flame ON!' while doing it?"

[D&D] GM says, "ok, the real rule is AC has a -2 penalty, all attacks have a 50% miss chance but no to-hit penalty"

[tomb] Elgran says, "he prances around like a girlie elf"

GM says, "sure"

[tomb] Elgran says, "wait, I'm the elf"

[tomb] Clem says, "Well, some wet 'orrible thing is squeezing my leg, so"

GM says, "there are three guys around here attacking you"

Clem says, "AAAARRGH"

GM says, "two are of one kind and one is another"

GM says, "it's really dark"

GM says, "if you want, you can make a knowledge (religion) or knowledge (dungeoneering) check to see if you recognize any of these guys"

GM says, "(assuming you have the skills)"

Clem says, "I have 9 in religion."

[tomb] Paulie says, "'Dave? Dave, is that *you*?'"

[tomb] Alex says (to Paulie), "Awwwk! Word on the street is that Dave is Jarb."

Clem rolls 1d20+9: 8+9 | 17

GM says, "it'll be DC 25"

GM says, "(since it's dark)"

Clem says, "I think these monsters are... EVIL!"

GM says, "DC 20 if you can get the lights on"

Elgran says, "of course they're evil, we're fighting them"

GM says, "ok, so that was all free"

GM asks, "what now?"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Didn't someone have a blazing holy symbol?"

Clem says, "Okay, let's assume this isn't rusting my armour or something yet, and try Daylight as my action."

Clem says, "On my holy symbol."

GM says, "ok, you create a mighty bright light in the room"

Clem says, "Don't know if I have to check concentration or something there."

GM says, "good point, attacks of opportunity"

GM asks, "ok, do you want to do defensive casting and try and avoid the AoO?"

GM says, "(answer: yes, probably)"

Clem says, "I guess so then."

Clem asks, "How does that work?"

GM says, "DC 15 + the spell level, which is 3"

[tomb] Clem says, "Man, this lasts for 90 minutes, I should have cast it before we entered the cave."

GM says, "I forget if you have the combat casting feat, but that's +4 if so"

Clem asks, "What am I checking, Concentration?"

GM says, "right"

[tomb] Paulie exclaims, "But then we couldn't have sneaked up on the things that live in complete darkness!"

Clem rolls 1d20+10: 12+10 | 22

Clem says, "Whew!"

GM says, "hooray"

GM says, "ok, you keep your cool enough to get the spell off"

GM says, "the good news is now the cave is illuminated"

Clem says (belatedly), "Cover your eyes!"

GM says, "it's not *that* bright"

GM says, "it's like being outside bright"

[tomb] Clem says, "Well, I could tuck it under my armour."

GM exclaims, "the bad news is the monsters in the cave with you are hideous!!"

[tomb] Clem says, "See, you can dungeon-delve *and* get a tan at the same time!"

[tomb] Paulie exclaims, "But that is good news!"

Elgran asks, "more or less hideous than the ettins?"

GM says, "there are two things that look like zombies, only their bodies are all covered with scars and stufgf"

[tomb] Paulie exclaims, "It means we don't need to feel bad about killing them!"

GM says, "and one thing that is almost indescribable"

GM says, "but it looks like a blob of hideousness with a mouth"

(From Paulie) GM says, "so I won't try"

Clem says, "Please tell me the thing sucking my leg is merely one of the zombies."

GM says, "the only consolation is it's only like 3 feet high and wide"

GM says, "and this is the thing from which the hideous cackling and screeching is coming"

GM says, "the others are totally quiet"

GM exclaims, "ok, next round -- Elgan! now unconfused!"

Elgran exclaims, "I am running back!"

[tomb] Clem asks, "Wait, did Paulie just skip his turn?"

GM says, "(there is no sign of the wet slimy thing)"

Elgran says, "in the dark"

GM says, "whoops, right, sorry"

GM exclaims, "Paulie first!"

Elgran says, "when it's my turn"

GM says (to Elgran), "it's actually now at least dimly lit for 90' down the corridor, and you're an elf so that's good as daylight"

Paulie exclaims, "It it time for... scorching ray!"

[tomb] Clem says, "hee hee"

GM exclaims, "I am shocked!"

GM asks, "ok, at which?"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Which of these things is closest to me?"

[tomb] GM says, "the blobby thing"

Paulie fires a ray at the blobby thing.

[tomb] GM says, "one of the zombie things is also close"

Paulie rolls 1d20+11: 18+11 | 29

[tomb] GM asks, "ok, I am assuming you're taking a 5' step away from them to avoid the AoOs?"

GM exclaims, "that is a hit!"

[tomb] Paulie says, "I suppose I could, but instead, let's take a concentration check, just for fun and practice."

Paulie rolls 1d20+16: 6+16 | 22

[tomb] GM says, "okey doke"

[tomb] GM says, "nice work"

GM asks, "ok, damage for the ray?"

Paulie rolls 4d6: 2 5 6 5 | 18

[tomb] Paulie asks, "I assume this fellow has no discernable vital bits?"

[tomb] GM says, "right"

[tomb] GM says, "but he's not flanked anyway, and not flat-fooded, so you couldn't sneak attack"

GM says, "ok, now the next round starts"

GM says, "Elgran runs back in"

GM exclaims, "and one of the zombie things smashes at Clem!"

You roll 1d20+12: 19+12 | 31

GM says, "rar SMASH"

You roll 1d6+7: 3+7 | 10

GM exclaims, "10 hp damage!"

GM says, "then, incredibly, it opens its mouth and a hugely long tongue comes out to slurp him"

You roll 1d20+12: 9+12 | 21

[tomb] Elgran says, "ew"

Clem says, "Greagh!"

GM exclaims, "which is a hit!"

GM says, "and actually, I realized it probably should have hit earlier, since it's a touch attack"

Clem says, "Whew, I thought that was damage."

GM exclaims (at Clem), "you feel your limbs stiffening! roll a DC 17 fortitude save!"

Clem rolls 1d20+8 for fort: 5+8 | 13

GM says, "uh-oh -- you are paralyzed for"

Clem says, "RARRR ow ow ow"

You roll 1d4: 1 | 1

GM exclaims, "1 minute!"

GM says, "however, you do have the special ability from the travel domain to have free action for 9 rounds"

[tomb] Elgran asks, "man, these guys are tough. what's the CR?"

[tomb] Alex says (to Elgran), "Awwwk! Word on the street is that .cr is Costa Rica. Furthermore, ascii 13 is cr."

Clem says, "Hey, that's true."

[tomb] GM says, "holy crap"

[tomb] GM says, "ok, uh, it's higher than I thought"

[tomb] Clem says, "We can take 'em!"

[tomb] Elgran says, "awright"

[tomb] Elgran says, "okay, tell us after"

[tomb] GM says, "it's not actually totally unreasonable, but it's higher than I thought"

[tomb] Elgran says, "when we are all funky-slurping-zombie food"

[tomb] Clem asks, "So I'm going to be paralysed for 1 round if this lasts for more than 9 rounds?"

[tomb] GM says, "yeah"

GM says, "now, it is Grog's turn, who is still confused -- roll 1d100"

Paulie rolls 1d100: 90 | 90

GM says, "hmm"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "So he stomps bugs?"

[D&D] Rob_2 asks, "besides what alex said, what is CR?"

[D&D] Alex says (to Rob_2), "Awwwk! Word on the street is that .cr is Costa Rica. Furthermore, ascii 13 is cr."

GM says, "Grog looks around for someone to attack, which I guess means running back into the cave at top speed"

[D&D] GM says, "challenge rating"

[D&D] Rob_2 says, "thanks"

[D&D] GM says, "rule of thumb used for determining how tough monsters are for the party"

Paulie asks (of Gorg), "Feeling better?"

GM says, "well, the good news is the confusion has worn off"

GM says, "but he'll have to roll again on the creature's turn"

[D&D] Jon asks, "out of curiosity, who's running, and what?"

GM says, "meanwhile, the other zombie thing goes for Paulie again"

You roll 1d20+12: 9+12 | 21

Clem asks, "Oh, another fortitude check for confusion?"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Ha ha."

GM says, "people who saved already don't have to save against the babbling"

Clem says, "Aha, got it."

[tomb] GM asks, "is that a hit or a miss?"

Elgran says, "aw geez"

[tomb] Paulie says, "With all my plusses, I think I have effective AC 22."

[tomb] GM says, "nice"

You roll 1d20+12: 8+12 | 20

[D&D] katre says (to jon), "inky, a sample thing to remind us how this works"

[tomb] Clem says, "You are a sneaky beaky."

[tomb] GM asks, "that one is a touch attack -- is it still a miss?"

GM says, "(that was its hideous tongue)"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Does mage armor work against touch attacks?"

[tomb] GM says, "yeah"

[tomb] GM says, "hrm"

[tomb] GM says, "actually, no, I'm afraid not"

[tomb] GM says, "since it's an armor bonus"

[tomb] Paulie says, "OK. I'm hit, then."

[tomb] GM says, "oops -- ok, DC 17 fort save"

Paulie rolls 1d20+6: 16+6 | 22

[tomb] Clem says, "Nice."

GM exclaims, "nice work!"

Paulie asks, "Is that the worst ye can do?"

GM says, "and now you can take your action"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "The two undead are near each other, right?"

GM says, "also, guys, if this isn't obvious, this is the last encounter, so feel free to unload your biggest guns"

[tomb] GM says, "they're about 10' apart, yeah"

Paulie lets loose a cone of... DISRUPT UNDEAD!

[tomb] Clem says, "Wow!"

GM says, "I am pretty sure that is not your biggest gun"

[tomb] Paulie exclaims (at GM), "But I have not had a chance to use it yet!"

GM says, "hey, wait, it's only a single-target thing, too"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Aw, even though it's a cone?"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Oh well. I'm using it anyway."

[tomb] GM says, "http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/spellsDtoE.html#disrupt-undead says it's a ray"

Paulie rolls 1d20+11: 3+11 | 14

GM exclaims, "a hit!"

Paulie rolls 1d6: 1 | 1

GM says, "ha ha"

[tomb] Paulie exclaims, "Woo! It is disrupted! Slightly!"

Clem says, "You blew its little finger off!"

GM says, "ok, now the babbling thing continues to babble"

GM says, "Grog and Elgran should make DC 13 will saves again"

GM says, "(everyone else is immune)"

Elgran rolls 1d20+5 for will: 10+5 | 15

[tomb] Elgran says, "whew"

Paulie rolls 1d20+3 for grogwill: 19+3 | 22

GM says, "excellent"

[tomb] Paulie fixes the DR on his sheet.

GM says, "now it goes ptoo, and fires a glob of spit at Grog"

You roll 1d20+4: 4+4 | 8

GM says, "the spit flies past Grog and smacks into the wall, where it sizzles a bit"

GM says, "then it tries to bite Paulie"

You roll 1d20+4: 14+4 | 18

GM says, "but his armor and stuff protects him"

Paulie leans right.

GM says, "because he is cool like that"

GM says, "and at last it is Clem's turn again"

GM says, "who hopefully will come up with something spectacular"

Clem says, "Er, yikes."

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Dimension Door?"

[tomb] Clem says, "I used it against the manticore!"

[tomb] GM says, "hee hee"

Clem asks, "Can I try another religion check, now that it's brighter?"

[tomb] Paulie says, "s/check//"

GM says, "sure, go for it"

GM says, "DC 20"

Clem rolls 1d20+9: 13+9 | 22

Clem pray pray pray

GM says, "good work"

[tomb] Clem says, "Turning the zombies is kind of my thing, but the blobby monster seems like the biggest threat."

[tomb] Paulie says, "It should be easy to finish off the zombies now."

GM says, "ok, let's see"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Seeing as I've weakened them and all."

GM says, "you're sure that these zombie guys are pretty nasty"

GM says, "and are not in fact zombies, but something that only looks like it"

[tomb] Elgran says, "does that mean no favored enemy bonus? phooey"

GM says, "they might even be too nasty to turn, in fact"

GM says, "they're still undead, though"

[tomb] Elgran says, "oh, yay"

[tomb] Clem says, "Aha, hmm."

GM says, "and as such, if you hit them with a healing spell it'll do damage instead of healing, although you'll have to touch them, and they get a save for half"

Clem asks, "So we have two undead guys and the blobby tonguey thing?"

GM says, "also, being undead they're immune to most mind-affecting spells, not that that'll probably matter much"

GM says, "yeah"

GM says, "which you're pretty sure isn't undead"

GM says, "er"

GM says, "the undead guys are the ones with the tongue"

GM says, "the blob thing bites and spits"

Clem says, "Oh, aha, I see."

GM says, "this is the grossest dungeon ever"

Clem asks, "And sorry to hold things up, but roughly where is everyone now?"

GM says, "everyone is back in the room now"

GM says, "Grog and Elgran are sort of by the entrance, one zombie is by you, one is by Paulie, and the blob thing is also by Paulie"

Elgran says, "I guess I am still in the entrybit"

Clem asks, "How high is the ceiling?"

GM says, "I dunno, 30 or 40 feet"

GM says, "it's a biggish cave"

GM says, "and Rob_2 is just hanging out"

Clem says, "I'm still flying at this point."

GM exclaims, "so you are!"

Clem asks, "Can I grab Paulie and haul him up, since he's little?"

GM says, "sure, what the hell"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Works for me."

Clem says, "Let's head up 20 feet or so to avoid those tongues, hopefully."

Elgran exclaims, "Bye!"

GM says, "I'll even let you take a standard action and make an attack first, if you want"

Clem says, "And I don't know if I have an action left now."

Clem says, "Oh, sure."

[D&D] Rob_2 says, "ohh, weird. all this time I've been interpreting GM as dfan"

Clem says, "With the haste and all I'm at +14 attack, so let's put 2 on power attack."

[D&D] GM exclaims, "it's all the exclamation points!"

GM says, "boom smash"

Clem says, "No, I'm only +12, whoops."

Clem says, "Forgot the bull strength wore off."

Clem says, "Okay, forget the power attack, I want to hit something."

GM says, "hee hee"

Clem rolls 1d20+12: 2+12 | 14

GM says, "roll it"

GM says, "oh dear"

Clem says, "Crap."

GM says, "its mighty skin deflects you"

Clem says, "Right, I'm out of here!"

GM says, "but then you grab Paulie and zip away before it can exact retribution"

GM exclaims, "next round, Elgran!"

Elgran exclaims, "Okay!"

[tomb] Elgran says, "in exciting news, I've spent the last 10 minutes reading up on two-weapon fighting"

[tomb] GM says, "hee hee"

[tomb] GM asks, "did I get the rules right?"

[tomb] Elgran says, "and discovered that I actually have _improved_ two-weapon fighting"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Y'know, if I don't cast any more scorching rays, I have just enough Rope Trick for Clem and I to spend the night safely tucked away high out of reach."

[tomb] Clem says, "Wow, that sure is Haste."

[tomb] Paulie says, "During which time we can rest and recover our spells."

[tomb] Elgran says, "so I also bet a bonus light weapon attack at -5"

[tomb] GM says, "hee hee"

[tomb] GM says, "sweet"

[tomb] Clem says, "Well, I have a Searing Ray that's worth 9d6 against undead."

[tomb] Clem says, "And a couple of anti-paralysis scrolls."

[tomb] Paulie says, "Oh. Well, you probably want to use that first."

[tomb] Elgran says, "so, anyway, I'll run over to Clem's zombie-thing, take the AoO, and whack it a lot"

[tomb] GM says, "that is the sort of thing it is good to have"

[tomb] GM says, "it's only got 5' reach, so no AoO"

[tomb] GM says, "(the tongue is freaky but it's only like 3' long, not like 10')"

[tomb] Elgran says, "oh cool"

[tomb] Elgran says, "well I am just running up and whacking it a lot, then"

[tomb] GM says, "ok"

[tomb] Elgran asks, "what's the AC?"

[tomb] Alex says (to Elgran), "Awwwk! Word on the street is that .ac is the Internet suffix for Ascension Island."

[tomb] GM says, "23"

[tomb] Elgran says, "ow"

[tomb] GM says, "(I said these guys were tougher than I thought)"

[tomb] Elgran says, "I am turning only 3 points to damage, then"

[tomb] Clem says, "Zoinks."

[tomb] Paulie says, "Hmm, I could try roping them too."

[tomb] GM says, "touch AC is 14, though"

Elgran rolls 1d20+12: 8+12 | 20

[tomb] Paulie says, "Although they probably have good Reflex."

Elgran rolls 1d20+12: 6+12 | 18

Elgran whish whoosh

[tomb] Elgran says, "okay, for the -5, no power attack"

[tomb] Clem says, "Man, my ranged attack is only +5 for the Searing Ray thing."

Elgran rolls 1d20+10: 19+10 | 29

[tomb] GM says, "tsk"

Elgran rolls 1d6+4: 3+4 | 7

[tomb] Paulie says, "That's a touch attack, though."

[tomb] GM says, "I guess you could cast that divine might thing or whatever"

Elgran rolls 1d20+10: 4+10 | 14

[tomb] Elgran says, "and now the final two-handed blow"

[tomb] Paulie says, "So the AC for that's not as high."

[tomb] Clem says, "Hey, yeah, I forgot about Divine Power."

[tomb] Elgran says, "(with 5 power attack)"

Elgran rolls 1d20+10: 10+10 | 20

[tomb] Clem says, "This does seem like a good time."

[tomb] Elgran says, "drat"

[tomb] Elgran says, "so, 11 hp total (+4 to undead)"

[tomb] Elgran says, "that sucked"

[tomb] GM says, "hey, better than nothing"

[tomb] Elgran says, "yeah"

GM says, "ok, I guess the creature will attack Elgran"

You roll 1d20+12: 20+12 | 32

GM says, "ouch"

[tomb] Elgran says, "oof"

You roll 1d20+12: 3+12 | 15

GM says, "not a critical, I assume"

You roll 1d6+7: 5+7 | 12

[tomb] Elgran says, "AC 22"

GM says, "but 12 hp damage"

You roll 1d20+12: 7+12 | 19

GM says, "LICK"

GM says, "and miss"

GM asks, "er, actually, that's a touch attack -- what's your touch AC?"

Elgran says, "15"

GM says, "ok, then it hits -- DC 17 fortitude check"

Elgran rolls 1d20+7 for fort: 20+7 | 27

GM says, "woo"

GM says, "nice save"

GM exclaims, "Grog!"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Is he within five feet of something?"

[tomb] GM says, "sure, anything you want"

[tomb] Paulie says, "OK, I'll take a step toward whatever's most injured, then unload a full attack."

[tomb] Paulie says, "Er, Grog will."

[tomb] GM says, "the blob thing is pretty injured"

[tomb] GM says, "the creatures are not that injured"

[tomb] Paulie says, "I'll take three points of power attack."

GM says, "the blob is AC 19"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Oh, only 19? Then I'll take 5."

Paulie rolls 1d20+11: 7+11 | 18

[tomb] Clem says, "Whoops."

GM says, "I assume that includes the +1 from the haste"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Or, y'know, maybe I'll only take 2 this time."

Paulie rolls 1d20+9: 17+9 | 26

GM says, "pow"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Yeah, 2's better."

[tomb] Clem says, "Can you vary the power attack through the round? I thought you couldn't."

[tomb] GM says, "hmm, yeah, I think you're probably right"

GM asks, "damage?"

[tomb] Elgran says, "oh, whoops"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Ah, still a hit, though."

[tomb] Elgran says, "you're right"

[tomb] Rob_2 asks, "how many hit points are you guys starting out with?"

[tomb] Elgran says (to rob), "I started with 65"

[tomb] Clem says, "I have 68, and I think I've taken 16 so far."

[tomb] Elgran says, "dunno about the zombies"

GM asks, "damage?"

Paulie rolls 1d12+21: 8+21 | 29

GM says, "good golly"

Elgran says, "wow"

Clem says, "Yay!"

[tomb] Rob_2 says, "splatto"

GM exclaims, "Grog's axe slices open the blob! It oozes ichor everywhere!"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Is it dead?"

[tomb] Rob_2 says, "ew dude"

GM says, "yeah"

[tomb] GM says, "ichor is awesome"

[tomb] Rob_2 asks, "what kind of guy is Grog?"

[tomb] Paulie says, "I'd like to cleave the nearest zombie before using my haste attack, then."

[tomb] GM says, "oho"

[tomb] Paulie says (to Rob), "Half-orc barbarian semi-NPC."

[tomb] GM says, "ok, go for it"

[tomb] Rob_2 says, "swell"

[tomb] GM says, "he's Paulie's minion"

[tomb] GM says, "or henchman or something"

[tomb] Rob_2 asks, "slash bodyguard?"

[tomb] GM says, "ew"

[tomb] Rob_2 says, "not that kind of slash!"

[tomb] GM says, "oh"

[tomb] GM says, "in that case, yeah"

Paulie rolls 1d20+6: 6+6 | 12

GM says, "woosh"

[tomb] Paulie says, "OK, no cleave. But for the last hasty action:"

Paulie rolls 1d20+11: 16+11 | 27

GM says, "excellent"

Paulie rolls 1d12+21: 6+21 | 27

[tomb] Elgran asks, "that's a huge damage bonus. what's it all from?"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Two-handed weapon lets you double both your strength bonus and your power attack bonus."

GM says, "and now it gets a chance to retaliate"

[tomb] Elgran says, "ah"

GM says, "grar snarl"

[tomb] Elgran says, "I didn't know that"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Grog's got a big strength, and he took five points of power attack this round."

[tomb] Clem says, "I think it's only one-and-a-half times strength."

Paulie says (to Grog), "Good job."

You roll 1d20+12: 19+12 | 31

GM exclaims, "smash!"

You roll 1d6+7: 6+7 | 13

GM exclaims, "13 hp!"

[tomb] Clem says, "Although if not I'll get another point or two."

GM says, "(on Grog)"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Er, right. I should make sure I counted that right."

You roll 1d20+12: 5+12 | 17

GM exclaims, "touch attack! probably hits! DC 17 fortitude!"

[tomb] Paulie says, "(I did up the numbers several weeks ago.)"

Paulie rolls 1d20+10 for grogfort: 11+10 | 21

GM says, "whew"

GM exclaims, "ok, Paulie's turn, from up in the air!"

[tomb] Clem says, "Er, I hope you're okay to fire spells or throw stuff."

Paulie casts another scorching ray at the injured undead.

[tomb] GM exclaims, "all he's got are these stubby little arms!"

Paulie rolls 1d20+11: 15+11 | 26

GM says, "a palpable hit"

Paulie rolls 4d6: 5 1 1 4 | 11

GM says, "and now Clem"

GM says, "who we will assume can carry Paulie in one hand somehow"

[tomb] dfan says, "Gee whiz, you guys are still at it"

Paulie uses his move action to climb up on Clem's shoulders.

[tomb] dfan says, "Maybe we won't get through the whole module in 6 hours"

[tomb] GM says, "their urge to slay is insatiable"

[tomb] Clem says, "We're being massacred by these uber-zombies."

[tomb] GM says, "also, these guys turned out to be tougher than I thought"

GM says (to Paulie), "hooray"

[tomb] Paulie says, "RTA 'urban zombies'."

[tomb] dfan says, "I hope you survive"

Clem asks, "Can I cast Divine Power while flying?"

GM says, "sure"

Clem says, "I'll do that then!"

GM exclaims, "vavoom!"

Clem says, "I guess that was my round."

GM says, "ok, you do that"

GM exclaims, "next round, Elgran!"

[tomb] Clem says, "Gee, this spell-casting takes time."

[tomb] Elgran says, "okay, two points of power attack this time"

[tomb] GM says, "yeah, ideally you would have a round or two to buff before going in"

Elgran rolls 1d20+13: 8+13 | 21

Elgran rolls 1d20+13: 4+13 | 17

[tomb] Clem says, "Ideally we wouldn't have attacked them under cover of pitch darkness."

[tomb] Elgran says, "sigh"

Elgran rolls 1d20+8: 16+8 | 24

[tomb] Paulie asks, "If Clem is paralyzed while flying, does he remain in the air?"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Also, how many rounds of haste are left?"

[tomb] GM says, "I believe so, since it's not with wings"

Elgran rolls 1d6+10: 1+10 | 11

Elgran rolls 1d20+8: 10+8 | 18

[tomb] GM says, "uh, to be honest I haven't really been tracking -- let's say this is round 4"

[tomb] Paulie asks (of GM), "Too bad. So no featherfall?"

Elgran rolls 1d20+13: 17+13 | 30

[tomb] GM says, "which feels about right"

Elgran rolls 1d6+10: 6+10 | 16

[tomb] Elgran says, "two hits, 11 and 16"

[tomb] GM says (to Paulie), "well, you can jump onto one of them, I guess"

[tomb] GM says, "excellent"

GM says, "ok, now the creature"

You roll 1d20+12: 9+12 | 21

[tomb] Elgran asks, "at whom?"

GM says (to Elgran), "you"

[tomb] Elgran says, "yay, a miss"

GM says, "slam MISS"

You roll 1d20+12: 6+12 | 18

[tomb] Elgran says, "boo, a hit"

GM says, "DC 17 fort"

Elgran rolls 1d20+7 for fort: 9+7 | 16

GM says, "arr"

Elgran says, "aww, man"

You roll 1d4: 2 | 2

GM says, "2 minutes of paralysis"

GM says, "IF YOU SURVIVE"

[tomb] Elgran asks, "two minutes is 12 rounds?"

GM says, "maybe Clem can fix it or something"

GM says, "or maybe he should just smash them"

[tomb] Clem asks (of Paulie), "Er, can you read a scroll of remove paralysis?"

GM says, "Grog, go"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Not sure."

[tomb] GM asks, "ha ha, use magic device?"

[tomb] Clem says, "I have divine power coursing through my veins and I want to crush!"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Using 2 points of power attack."

Paulie rolls 1d20+11: 6+11 | 17

[tomb] Paulie says, "Er, that should have been +14, but no difference, I think."

Paulie rolls 1d20+9: 14+9 | 23

[tomb] GM says, "yeah, still a miss"

GM exclaims, "a hit!"

Paulie rolls 1d12+12: 12+12 | 24

Paulie CHOP

GM says, "SMASH"

[tomb] Elgran asks, "grog and I are attacking the same one, right?"

(From Paulie) GROG CHOP

[tomb] Paulie says, "...I mean."

[tomb] Elgran says, "well, back when I was attacking"

[tomb] Paulie asks (of GM), "Is he still ali-- standing?"

[tomb] GM says, "whoah, crap, are you? I was assuming not, but I agree that would probably be sensible"

[tomb] GM says, "um, if you thought you were, I will retcon"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Yeah, I'd have assumed that as well."

[tomb] Elgran says, "well, since grog started attacking zombies second, it's up to him"

[tomb] Clem says, "Quick, Grog, roll against intelligence!"

GM says, "ok, Grog's blow is almost but not quite sufficient to topple this mighty zombie creature"

Paulie rolls 1d20+14: 7+14 | 21

GM says, "due to the work by Elgran's furious quarterstaffing earlier"

(From Paulie) GROG SWISH

GM asks, "that his last attack?"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Yeah, I think he just gets three this time."

[tomb] GM says, "okey doke"

[tomb] Rob_2 says, "I'm just waiting around to find out what the hell kind of zombie has a big disgusting frog tongue"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Two normally, one haste, and sometimes one cleave when he's lucky."

GM exclaims, "now the creature retaliates against Grog!"

[tomb] Clem says, "Heh."

You roll 1d20+12: 14+12 | 26

GM says, "SMASH"

You roll 1d6+7: 3+7 | 10

GM says, "then it LICKS HIM"

You roll 1d20+12: 10+12 | 22

GM exclaims, "DC 17 fortitude!"

[tomb] Clem says, "Oh crap."

Paulie rolls 1d20+10 for grogfort: 12+10 | 22

GM says, "wow"

[tomb] Paulie exclaims, "Grog have great fortitude!"

[tomb] Elgran says, "whew"

[tomb] GM says, "grog stylish"

GM exclaims, "Paulie, go!"

[tomb] Clem says, "I'd better keep teleport in reserve."

[tomb] Clem says, "For which we need to be touching."

[tomb] dfan says, "Good luck, guys"

Paulie fires his last scorching ray.

[tomb] (from GM) Clem says "Seeya, suckers!"

[tomb] (from Clem) dfan says, "Remember, if you die, roll up new characters."

GM exclaims, "the creature bursts into flame and falls to the ground in a pillar of ash!"

dfan was up to his irresistably broad shoulders in trouble.

Clem says, "Yay!"

GM says, "the other one looks around somewhat uneasily"

GM says, "Clem, go"

[tomb] Elgran exclaims, "It is Elgran's identical twin, Flgran!"

[tomb] GM says, "hee hee"

[tomb] Elgran says, "also, his animal companion, Xolf"

Clem says, "I don't know if Paulie is still sitting on my shoulders but I now have 22 strength so I don't care!"

GM says, "you only get one attack if you want to move and attack, but it's a biggish one"

Rob_2 has disconnected.

Rob_2 vooms himself somewhere else.

GM says, "you could also searing ray, which has improved to +8, I believe"

GM says, "er, or whatever kind of ray it is"

Clem says, "Sure, let's try that."

GM says, "ray of medium doneness"

Rob_2 has arrived.

Clem says, "I'll also drop down next to Grog, hopefully shielding Elgran."

GM says, "ok, good plan"

Clem says, "And ray the guy point blank."

GM says, "ok, his touch AC is 14"

Clem rolls 1d20+8: 4+8 | 12

Clem says, "Noooo!"

Clem says, "Divine powers, don't forsake me now!"

[tomb] Paulie says, "When you just released a huge searing beam of divine energy..."

[tomb] Paulie says, "...in the *wrong direction*..."

[tomb] GM says, "hee hee"

[tomb] Paulie says, "...I don't think you can blame your god for forsaking you."

Clem says, "9d6 damage to the west wall."

GM says, "ok, I'm afraid Elgran misses his turn, and the creature attempts to bite and lick Clem"

You roll 1d20+12: 3+12 | 15

You roll 1d20+12: 7+12 | 19

GM exclaims, "hit with the tongue! but you don't care!"

GM exclaims, "Grog's turn!"

[tomb] Clem says, "Man, freedom of movement is handy."

[tomb] GM says, "the travel domain is very good, yeah"

Paulie rolls 1d20+14: 10+14 | 24

[tomb] Clem says, "That was 5, I guess."

[tomb] GM says, "you can also learn and cast the free action spell, I believe"

Paulie rolls 1d12+12: 10+12 | 22

GM exclaims, "a thor-like blow!"

Paulie rolls 1d20+9: 15+9 | 24

Paulie rolls 1d12+12: 11+12 | 23

[tomb] Elgran says, "ooh"

GM says, "cripes"

(From Paulie) Grog says, "YOU DON'T HURT CAPTAIN!"

[tomb] Clem says, "Man, at this rate a disrupt undead could finish him off."

GM says, "it's still on its feet, but it's pretty staggered"

[tomb] GM says, "hee hee"

GM exclaims, "Paulie, go!"

[tomb] Rob_2 says, "how is it explained such that he's paralyzed but still freely moving around and doing stuff/"

Paulie goes in with his sparky rapier.

[tomb] Clem says, "It's because I'm so godly!"

[tomb] GM says, "Clem's power from his clerical domain of Travel lets him be affected by free action for 9 rounds a day"

[tomb] GM says, "free action prevents paralysis, entanglement, etc"

[tomb] Rob_2 says, "oh, prevents. ok"

[tomb] Clem says, "It's lucky the GM reminded me of that one."

[tomb] Rob_2 says, "it was funny to picture him kind of frozen in one position yet floating around"

Paulie rolls 1d20+12: 2+12 | 14

[tomb] Clem says, "Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to completely miss this zombie."

[tomb] GM says, "and he was flying"

[tomb] GM says, "hee hee"

[tomb] Clem says, "That's what I was going to try for otherwise."

[tomb] GM says, "well, you could also hit the guy with your sword"

GM says, "I guess that's a miss"

GM says, "Clem, go"

GM says, "bash or something"

Clem says, "I think my attack is at 17/17/12"

Clem says, "What with my strangely bulging muscles"

GM asks, "did you count that your base BAB increases to +9 also?"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Clem's muscles are now a serviceable light source."

Clem says, "9 base, +6 strength, +1 weapon focus, +1 magic sword."

GM says, "cool"

GM says, "ok, go for it"

Clem says, "Let's put 3 on power attack."

Clem rolls 1d20+14: 15+14 | 29

Clem rolls 3d6+13: 1 2 6+13 | 22

Clem rolls 1d20+9: 4+9 | 13

GM exclaims, "crash! bash! slash!"

Clem spins round wildly after trying one swing too many.

GM exclaims, "the two blows that hit reduce it to ashes, and you are triumphant!"

Elgran says, "yay"

Paulie exclaims, "Hurrah!"

GM says, "and just in time, too"

Paulie exclaims, "These must be what stole all the sheep!"

Clem stops spinning, freezes in place as the paralysis kicks in.

GM says (to Paulie), "hee hee"

Clem says, "Mnnn mn mf!"

GM says, "it is true you see a pile of sheep bodies in the corner -- along with a pile of corpses from hapless adventurers"

Paulie loots said corpses.

Elgran says, "Mmmfh mmmfhfhf"

Clem says, "Mnnnnnmn mn mf nt lwfl gd! mmm!"

GM says, "you find some stuff which I guess you retroactively have"

Paulie says, "Yeah, yeah, ye'll get yer shares."

GM says, "plus, you find a cryptic note in the belt-pouch of a man dressed all in black"

Elgran says, "My goodness (I will say when I unparalyze)"

Paulie reads the note out loud.

GM says, "it seems to be a crude map, above which is written "This 'tomb' is said to hold untold riches and unimaginable horrors. The coins and fame I gain from defeating the foul beasts that lurk in this mountain will enable me to finance an expedition to this tomb, to seek it out, defeat its traps and guardians, and plunder its treasures. To victory!""

Paulie says, "What a load of codswallop."

[tomb] GM says, "hee hee"

[tomb] Elgran says, "excellent"

[tomb] GM says, "well, good work, guys"

[tomb] Clem asks, "What on earth were those monsters?"

[tomb] GM says, "it seems like we need to research a bit on power attack and two-weapon attack"

[tomb] Clem says, "With their big zombie tongues."

[tomb] GM says, "they were Mohrgs: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/mohrg.htm"

[tomb] GM says, "and the other thing was a mighty Gibbering Mouther: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/gibberingMouther.htm"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Wow. So we defeated two CR8's and a CR5 in one battle?"

[tomb] GM says, "yeah"

[tomb] Rob_2 says, "there is no explanation for the tongues"

[tomb] GM says, "which is roughly a CR 10 encounter"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Despite being only 75% of a standard level 9 party?"

[tomb] GM says, "which is supposed to be a pretty hard battle"

[tomb] Clem says, "Well, it was pretty tough."

[tomb] Rob_2 asks, "when do the actual tomb sessions happen?"

[tomb] GM says, "well, Grog boosted you guys to more like 90%, I think"

[tomb] Paulie says, "I think I can safely say that 'Leadership' was the correct munchkin feat for me to take."

[tomb] Rob_2 says, "heh"

[tomb] Clem says, "Grog is excellent."

[tomb] Clem says, "I'm not entirely sure about my huge suit of plate armour."

[tomb] Clem says, "Flying is fun, though."

[tomb] Rob_2 asks, "it didn't help?"

[tomb] Paulie asks (of Clem), "You want to trade it for another Grog, then?"

[tomb] Elgran says, "two-weaponing is just as twinky as I hoped"

[tomb] Rob_2 asks, "or is this your spare suit you're carrying around?"

[tomb] Elgran says, "once I get the bugs out"

[tomb] Clem says, "Well, it helped to prevent me from being beaten to even more of a pulp."

[tomb] Paulie says, "I don't think I was injured at all, come to think of it."

[tomb] Paulie says, "This is, of course, as it should be."

[tomb] GM says, "hee hee"

[tomb] Clem says, "Overall we got lucky with the paralysis."

[tomb] Paulie says, "But I definitely need to take a level one offensive spell."

[tomb] GM says, "I was a little surprised you guys didn't have more offensive spells"

[tomb] Rob_2 says, "stink ray"

[tomb] GM says, "hee hee"

[tomb] GM asks, "ok, any questions? or are we set?"

[tomb] Elgran says, "I am surprised I totally forgot to prepare any"

[tomb] Elgran says, "thanks very much for running this"

[tomb] Paulie says, "I could take the classic Magic Missile..."

[tomb] GM says, "definitely -- thanks for playing"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Which I avoided just because... man, how boring can you get?"

[tomb] Clem says, "Yeah, that was good fun, thanks."

[tomb] josh_g says, "yeah, but there's a reason it's so common"

[tomb] josh_g says, "it scales up nicely and stays useful at higher levels"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Hmm, shocking grasp might work."

[tomb] josh_g says, "(this is me mostly speaking from CRPG experience, though)"

Elgran says, "later all"

GM says, "ok, log off"
