[ussura] Charles asks, "Was it morning or evening when we arrived at the monastery?"

[ussura] GM says, "Late evening."

[ussura] GM says, "The sun has just set."

[ussura] GM says, "OK, I'll go ahead and do the recap, and we can settle any other questions people have."

GM says, "The story so far:"

GM says, "So, you all came to Ussura for different reasons:"

GM says, "-Charles is on the trail of Lavache. Barring getting him directly, his first-mate-in-crime, Edmund Devoe, is a diplomat in Ussura."

GM says, "-Sebastien and Alixandre are diplomats in Ussura, and were supposed to report to Devoe."

GM says, "-Raelynn is on the run from Gerard, whose daughter Fleur looks a lot like her."

GM says, "-Era is protecting Raelynn."

GM says, "-Pyotr once killed a noble, and a reward for his capture was posted in the town where he was staying."

GM says, "Since you've gotten here, S&A got a treaty from Dauntania Rissanova which they didn't know what to do with. There turned out to be a hidden room underneath the embassy with papers implying something about Dreng Rissanova and a Sud'ya monastery, and you tracked down Marceau, a man who claimed to work for Edmund, and who told you that Edmund was off to try to free Dreng from a Sud'ya monastery. Fleur showed up and wacky mistaken-identity hijinks ensued, and ended up going off with Marceau, while the rest of you went off to the monastery."

GM exclaims, "At the monastery, it turned out that Dreng had escaped during an attack on the monastery by wolves some six months ago. The monastery was then attacked by wolves again, and you fought most of them off, though Era managed to convince a few not to attack at all. Era and Raelynn went off with the wolves to their den to find the 'voice' that told them to attack, and found an oddly-shaped bowl in a corner. Some investigation of the bowls ensued, and discussions with Palech, a monk who seems to be in contact with the rest of the world through bird messengers. And there you are!"

[ussura] GM says, "I haven't unpacked my notes with your stats on 'em, so hopefully you all know what you're supposed to roll."

[ussura] Sebastien says, "I've got stuff handy, yeah"

[ussura] GM says, "Wait, here they are."

[ussura] Charles says, "Mostly 9k4, I think. A couple are 8k5, tohugh."

[ussura] GM says (to Charles), ""What is your name, boy? And don't lie to me, because you live around here, and I'll find out what your name is!""

[ussura] Charles puts his test paper on top of the stack, then knocks them all onto the floor.

[ussura] GM exclaims, "A-ha! I already shaved a quarter-inch off all the tests!"

[ussura] GM asks (of Pyotr), "You awake yet?"

[ussura] GM asks, "Hmm, anyone want XP? What have I given you all so far?"

[ussura] Charles says, "XP is nice..."

[ussura] Charles says, "Hrm. I can't remember how much unspent XP I had before."

[ussura] GM says, "All I can see is giving you 2 XP for your intros."

[ussura] GM says, "So let's say another 10 XP each for everything since."

[ussura] GM says (to Charles), "I might be able to look that up."

[ussura] Charles says, "Cool."

[ussura] Charles exclaims, "No, no! Just right!"

[ussura] Sebastien says, "well, it's a faster rate than we've gotten in the past, but I'm not really complaining"

[ussura] GM says (to Charles), "I have 'Unspent: 5' on the sheet you gave me."

[ussura] GM says, "Well, that's a bit more than 2/session."

[ussura] Charles says, "You get 1 XP when you're awarded 1 DD, and unspent DD don't turn into anything at the end."

Sebastien says, "well, I for one need my sleep, or my appearance will be a wreck tomorrow"

Pyotr says, "Ahh, sleep."

Charles says, "Probably not a bad idea."

Sebastien says, "but tomorrow we must discuss where to go from here, as it seems we have reached something of a dead end"

Raelynn says (to Sebastien), "you need to chew on these leaves. The monks downstairs told me that if you chew them, you get really hyper and energetic"

Charles says, "Although, perhaps one of us should stay awake to watch this this, in case there is more to it than it appears on the surface."

Raelynn asks, "you think the bowl is going to come to life when we are asleep?"

Pyotr says, "We should keep a watch, anyway"

Pyotr says, "That may not be the only wolf pack in this forest."

Raelynn says, "i am hyper from the leaves, i will stay up"

Sebastien is sound asleep on his mat by the time discussion of watches comes up

[ussura] GM laughs.

Charles says, "I'll take the second watch, then. Wake me when you get tired."

Pyotr says, "Wake me up for third, then."

Raelynn says (to Charles), "okayiwillkeepchewingtheseleaves"

Pyotr says, "ZzZzZzZzZz."

Raelynn says, "the monks called them darjeeling, i think"

Raelynn sits and stares at the bowl

Charles covers his head with his cleoak, so as not to hear 'ZzZzZzZzZz' while trying to slumber.

Raelynn takes out her sketchpad and begins sketching the design on the bowl

[ussura] GM says, "One problem with having Sara not on is that she's asking me about where to put stuff ;-)"

Raelynn finishes, and begins sketching Sebastien, curled up on his mat

GM rolls some dice.

Raelynn adds finishing touches to Sebastien's cheekbones, closes the sketchbook and stretches

Raelynn says (to Charles,), "wake up"

Raelynn nudges Charles gently on the shoulder

Raelynn says, "your bowl did nothing"

Charles takes Raelynn's place by the door.

GM says, "The moon begins to set as Charles takes over the watch."

Raelynn goes to sleep on the far end of the corner

Raelynn says (to charles), "and then i am going to get my stuff, and then go to sleep"

[spoilers] GM says, "Also, you have a Syrneth stone knife that enables you to use Porte to transport yourself; you're waiting for an opportunity to use it."

[spoilers] GM asks, "The 'walk' knack, orwhatever it is?"

Charles starts 'helping' Raelynn to put the equipment away again. "We'd better leave it packed up for now. We don't even know for sure yet what exactly we'll be doing tomorrow."

[spoilers] GM says, "But she has an artifact that enables her to open a Porte hole wider than usual, and to step through it."

GM says, "Charles almost had his head through the rent when Pyotr jerked him back. His arm is still... gone, but the bleeding area in the air is starting to close around it."

Sebastien says, "still, no doubt we can do as the monks do and request assistance via an avian messenger"

Raelynn says, "this is weird"

Raelynn says, "it took a while for that to close"

Pyotr asks (of Raelynn), "You know what it was?"

Pyotr borrows the bowl for an inspection.

Raelynn shows the slight stains on the hilt of her knife. "See?"

GM says, "OK, wits check for"

Charles says, "If that's the case, we may be forced to burn all my shirts."

Charles says, "Something which no doubt Sebastien would approve of."

Raelynn says, "i wish there was a way to know if the room had any blood already"

Raelynn says, "some of the blood here is not mine"

Raelynn says, "and it's not the blood from the wolf fight - i remember cleaning my knife afterwards"

[backstage] GM says, "(it was there before the fight)"

Raelynn says, "and this looks a bit weird, like someone just dabbed on a bit of the blood on it"

Raelynn says, "and it's really old and faded, so it's got to have been here a while"

Raelynn looks more closely at the knife

Charles asks, "How long have you had the knife?"

Raelynn says, "how could fleur have gotten to my knife to mark it?""

Raelynn says, "(she mutters)"

Raelynn says, "i got this knife long time ago - my mother gave it to me when i finished my training"

Raelynn says, "and the knife never leaves me - i keep it on m....wait"

Raelynn says, "when i was kidnapped, they took my knife away from me"

Raelynn says, "but for fleur to have marked it, she had to have been there when they took me"

Sebastien asks, "kidnapped?"

Pyotr asks, "How long does it take?"

Raelynn says, "either way, i am going to just wash it off so that we don't hear from her again"

Raelynn says (to pyotr), "it's a whole ritual"

Charles says (to Raelynn), "If Raelynn had her knife on her in town, Fleur couldn't have gotten to it."

[ussura] Pyotr asks, "can I wake up auto-Era and have her sniff it for tracking?"

Raelynn says (to pyotr), "although someone can do it really quickly, if she wants, i guess"

(From GM) Era's eyes seem to go yellow for a second as she inhales deeply, holding the hilt of the knife to her nose. She nods and hands it back.

Raelynn carefully wets a handkerchief from Sebastien's pack and uses it to wipe the foreign blood off the hilt

Raelynn cleans the rest of the knife (but not her mark) while she's at it

Pyotr asks, "A large group? Is that a mob-type group, or an army-type?"

Palech asks, "How did they get in?"

Pyotr says (to Raelynn), "You explain, cause it still doesn't mean anything to me."

Palech says (to Pyotr), "It's unclear--it seems to be sort of both."

Pyotr says, "Oh boy."

Raelynn says (to palech), "we got a visitor last night using porte magic"

Pyotr says, "And us stuck at the top of this cliff."

Raelynn says, "wait a minute. i was told it's dangerous to use active porte in ussura"

Palech frowns. "Indeed. Should Matushka get wind of it, she will be most displeased."

[ussura] Sebastien asks, "which is Breslau?"

Charles goes through what's left of their equipment, to see if there's anything that could be a makeshift way to get down the mountain safely.

Raelynn says, "a vistation from matushka will be helpful right about now.""

Palech says, "Sadly, she is probably somewhat occupied with the war just now."

[ussura] GM says, "The capitol of Gallenia (the Rissanova's province)"

[ussura] Charles says (to Raelynn), "Are you sure you want to meet Matushka? She might not be all that happy with you either."

(From GM) Era explains, "Breslau is the capitol, where Tamara v'Rissanova lives. It sits on top of great cliffs, overlooking the Cathayan firewall.

Era_ says, "Well, the normal way to get there is from the west."

Era_ digs through her pack, produces the piece of metal.

[ussura] Sebastien says, "misshaped, melted in earlier fire, some possible markings"

Era_ asks, "and do you still have those notes?"

Era_ hands the metal to Palech.

Sebastien says, "well, I am afraid they were just a few words salvaged from the fire"

Palech examines the metal, and turns it over in his hands. "Hmm. I'm afraid I don't know what to make of this, though the markings may be a form of Cathayan.

Sebastien says, "I believe one of us may still retain the history book -- perhaps Devoe made some notes in it"

Sebastien asks, "oh, do you read Cathayan?"

Sebastien glances at Charles, and taps his chest at necklace-level.

[ussura] Raelynn says, "wasn't charles' locket or something ...right"

[ussura] Raelynn asks, "just the locket, right? not the bowl?"

[ussura] Sebastien says, "I don't think we think the bowl is Cathayan"

Charles nods. "There are some other markings we were looking at, which might also be Cathayan."

Palech says, "Sud'ya is said to have Cathayan roots, but I'm afraid I only know a few of the symbols used in our worship today. And none of these symbols are familiar to me."

Charles finds the page in his own notebook. "Are any of these known to you?"

Palech hands back the metal to Era.

Palech says, "Hmm."

Palech takes the notebook, looks at it.

Palech turns it upside-down.

Sebastien says, "might someone else in the monastery be more acquainted with Cathayan? I don't know how much insight understanding this would bring, but it could not hurt"

Palech exclaims, "Ah!"

Palech says, "This symbol here is similar to one we use today--it's a sort of blessing for protection."

Charles says, "Interesting."

Palech says, "I don't know of any Cathayan scholars, no, though you are welcome to ask around."

Sebastien says, "though it may be a bit difficult to get there"

Pyotr says, "Well, if we want Devoe, we should head there anyway."

Pyotr says (to Palech), "Our visitor last night took off with our climbing gear."

Pyotr says (to Palech), "Well, we'd like to stop Devoe and Dreng, and I hope Matushka supports the Knias."

Palech says, "It is said that one of the Vitzi travel this way all the time."

Sebastien asks, "Vitzi?"

Palech says, "The wandering ones. Gypsies, I think you call them."

Raelynn says, "we can dress up as gypsies, if we have to"

Sebastien says, "ah, yes - I have heard that they are more common here in Ussura than elsewhere"

Palech says, "It is necessary to travel to the thrice-tenth kingdom the first time one does so."

[Crows-Nest] Charles says, "Maybe we'll meet Kestrel..."

Charles asks, "The what?"

Sebastien asks, "the thrice-tenth kingdom?"

[Crows-Nest] Raelynn says (to sebastien), "oh yeah, i will be heartbroken if sebastien never discovers the bloody handkerchief the next time he goes for his pack"

Palech says, "But if you are serious in your intent to stop this Devoe and, presumably, Dreng as well, she may let you pass."

Sebastien folds his blankets and puts them away carefully.

[ussura] Raelynn asks (of gm), "huh. that makes me think. can i blood a living thing?"

[ussura] GM asks, "Would people be up for meeting a bit earlier than 2 next week? 1:30, say?"

[ussura] Raelynn asks, "EST?"

[ussura] GM asks, "That's, uh, 4:30 eastern?"

[ussura] Raelynn says, "okay. we will see ya"
