Some of you find one place that looks like there might be someone home--a little shop surrounded by potted plants and herbs, with one of those swirly black and white Cathayan designs hanging from a sign out front. The dim light of an oil lamp from inside spills onto the street."
Sebastien asks, "(elsewhere) you know I would not bother you if it wasn't urgent -- don't you see this crease?"
Pyotr knocks on the door, loudly.
Pyotr asks (of Charles), "Got your story ready?"
old_lady asks, "What is it?"
Charles nods.
GM says, "(from inside)"
old_lady exclaims, "It's late!"
GM says, "Her voice has a thick Cathayan accent to it."
Pyotr says, "We are sorry to bother you, grandmother, but we need your help."
old_lady asks, "Yes?"
old_lady continues to fail to open the door.
Charles says, "Please, my sister is very sick. She needs help."
[Crows-Nest] Alixandre says, "she has a bad case of the doppelganger"
[Crows-Nest] Era exclaims, "Ha!"
Charles says, "The doctor says he can make a medicine for her, but we need to bring him the materials."
old_lady sighs, and you hear the sound of bolts being drawn.
old_lady opens the door. "I have a few poultices that might help, but I doubt--"
old_lady's hands fall to her sides, and she gasps. "You!"
Charles starts to thrust the note toward her, but is taken short by her reaction.
Pyotr looks around. "Who, me?"
Pyotr says, "It was mistaken identity, I swear, grandmother."
old_lady peers at you more closely.
Pyotr starts backing away.
[ussura] Charles asks, "Have we seen her when she was decades younger?"
old_lady exclaims, "How can this be? You haven't aged a day!"
[ussura] Charles says, "(Just at a wild guess :) )"
[ussura] Pyotr says, "it's the usual Pyotr-the-Murderer reaction"
[ussura] Pyotr says, "oh, or that"
Charles says, "Ah -- it is by Matushka's will that we can meet again."

GM says, "The lady leads you inside a cosy little shop and pulls back a curtain, behind which is her modest living quarters. On the wall, you see a framed, yellowed sketch of the lot of you standing in front of a wall of flames."
[ussura] Charles says, "Now I feel guilty for lying, but it's a bit late to stop."
[ussura] Era says, "I don't know - she'd probably be pretty open to us following 'Matushka's will.'"
[ussura] Alixandre says, "according to matushka's will, i inherit everything"
Yin says, "You have a list? Let me see it."
[ussura] Charles says, "(If Pyotr wants to stop me, he's free to.)"
[ussura] Pyotr says, "get some willow bark for the sister and then ask about knockout drops"
Charles hands it to her.
Yin looks at the list, then back at you, then bursts out laughing.
Pyotr says (to Charles), "Wait, is that the other list? The sister only needs something for a headache, I thought."
Charles says, "Uh? Ah. Yes. I must have picked up this one by mistake..."
Pyotr says (to Charles), "Perhaps she can help with the other thing, too."
Yin asks (of Pyotr), "The thing involving this amateur sleeping draught ingredient list?"
Yin's eyes sparkle and she grins at you.
Pyotr says (to Yin), "Yes, that."
Charles says, "It would be a great help..."
Pyotr says, "We know a man who needs to sleep very soundly for a few hours."
Yin says, "And he'll be camped outside these very walls, I shouldn't wonder."
Era asks (of Grandmother), "Amateur? Then might you have something stronger for him?"
Charles says (to Yin), "Indeed, you read us well."
Pyotr says (to Yin), "We are here doing Matushka's will, still."
Era says (to Pyotr), "That would be very useful."
Yin says, "No doubt."
Yin says, "And indeed, I can make you something that actually has a chance of working."
Pyotr says, "Ah, good. I was the backup plan, but that's chancy."
Era says (to Grandmother), "Thank you. That would be an enormous help."
Yin asks, "Listen: do you know the prophecy my nephew made concerning the v'Risanova, Tamara?"
Pyotr asks, "Prophecy?"
Charles asks, "Nephew?"
Era says (to Grandmother), "No, I can't say that I do. Also, when last we met, I do not recall you mentioning a nephew, but we were rather busy at the time."
Yin says, "Breslau is important to us Cathayans, and we make note of the comings and goings here. When Tamara was born, my nephew crossed the wall to make this prophecy: "She will be strong at arm, and strong in mind. She shall know the light of truth, but will die in darkness.""
[Crows-Nest] Pyotr makes last-ditch backup plan: set city on fire for light
Yin says, "None here knew he was my nephew, of course, nor what I do here. We're all very mysterious, you see."
Era says (to Grandmother), "That fact had rather caught my attention."
Yin says, "So if Dreng knows this prophecy, and he probably does, he might be planning on using it to his advantage."
Charles looks a bit confused. "To enter the city before dawn, under darkness...?"
Yin says, "You saw when we met last that I have some skill in controlling the Wall, and from time to time I have used this skill to keep its light shining brightly on Tamara's castle window."
Yin says (to Charles), "I don't know the specifics, obviously. But do keep it in mind."
Era says (to Grandmother), "That is an impressive skill. Matushka clearly favors you highly."
Yin asks, "Let me prepare what you need. What method of administration did you plan?"
Yin says (to Era), "As she does you, I'd wager, miss, from the bright green of your eyes."
Pyotr asks, "What works best?"
Yin asks, "How close can you get to your target?"
Charles says, "We hope very close, but it's difficult to be certain."
Charles says, "We need it to be quick, so he doesn't have time to call for help."
Era says, "I think speed is slightly more important than potency. If he calls for help, a great deal could be lost."
Era says, "Although, come to think of it, we could just kill him."
Charles says, "Our first thought was something we could put over his nose and mouth."
Charles says (to Era), "No."
Charles says (to Era), "I need to talk to him."
Yin says, "I could get you something to break under his nose, or something to apply to a handkerchief. Or something to sting him with from a dart or needle, though that would take some time."
Era says (to Charles), "That wouldn't be my first choice, but it is something to consider, if other things fail."
Pyotr says, "Handkeychief is probably best."
Era says, "Knocking him out is better, I agree."
Yin nods and sets about gathering supplies and lighting a small fire under a flask.
Yin says, "You'll have to come back after you're done and we can catch up. Though I imagine my story is a bit longer than yours."
Yin grins.
Pyotr says, "Heh, that it probably is."
[ussura] Charles says, "For example, she's probably actually slept in between then and now."
[ussura] GM says, "Hee hee"
Charles asks (of Others), "How should we use this time? Is there anything else we need to prepare?"
GM says, "The four of you chat a while as she prepares the potion, which she then stoppers and hands to you."
Yin says, "This should be good for three doses, or thereabouts. Just in case. Try not to wet the handkerchief more than three minutes before it needs to be applied."
Charles says, "Thank you."
Pyotr says, "Thank you very much."
Yin exclaims, "and for heaven's sake, don't then use it to mop your brow!"

Era says (to Grandmother), "Thank you immeasurably for your help. May Matushka continue to smile upon you.'"
Yin smiles at Era. "She does, dearest. That she does."

Yin pokes Charles in the ribs. "If you don't come back tomorrow I'll send my other nephew after you!"
Era grins.
Charles smiles.
Charles asks, "Are we ready to go back to the inn?"
Pyotr says, "Let's"
Pyotr says, "The night is running down."
[ussura] GM says, "It occurs to me with the recurrent mentions of 'we haven't slept in forever' that this campaign is turning into 24."

[ussura] Charles says, "Heh."

Charles says (to Sebastien), "Travel via mystical egg would seem to be more time consuming that it appears from the inside."

Era says (to Raelynn), "She has framed the sketch you made of us, and has it hanging in her home. It has yellowed somewhat over her years."

[ussura] Charles says, "(Wow. Everything froze while I was gone?)"
Pyotr says, "Okay, let's go do this."

Pyotr marches out and down towards the camp.

[ussura] Pyotr says, "yeah, I'm acting the guard role"
[ussura] Charles says, "I'd like to join the escort as well."
Raelynn looks around cautiously
[ussura] Charles says, "Since we don't need to be as sneaky for that."
[ussura] Alixandre says, "Now I will have to hide"
[ussura] GM asks, "Era, Pyotr, and Charles as escort, then?"
[ussura] Era says, "a woman friend might be slightly less conspicous. I'm armed, but hey, its a bandit camp, and an unarmed woman is asking for trouble."
[ussura] Charles says (to Alix), "Although they've already seen you as one of them..."
Charles asks, "So is Raelynn our prisoner, or are we protecting her?"
[ussura] Alixandre says, "I'll help out however I am needed"
Pyotr says (to Charles), "We're bringing her back after she ran off"
Era says (to Charles), "Neither, I think. We're just 'with' in an inconspicous manner. "Fly casual" so to speak."
Charles asks, "And who's going to be carrying the handkerchief?"
[ussura] GM says, "Clearly, this is a well-thought out plan ;-)"

Pyotr says, "She is, but we prepare it inside the camp."

Alixandre says, "We are prepared to shout encouragement from here if needed."
GM says, "Pyotr, Era, Charles, and Raelynn enter the guarded clearing, Pyotr dragging Raelynn."
Raelynn hisses, "You can be less convincing"
Burly_Guard says (to Raelynn), "(frowning) You're back early."
[Crows-Nest] Charles says, "Damn those chonotons! I hope the Globetrotters figure something out soon."

Pyotr says (to Guard), "She took something she wasn't supposed to, so we were told to bring her back."
Raelynn looks mutinous
Pyotr says, "The boss wanted to talk to her about it. Didn't sound happy."
Burly_Guard asks (of Pyotr), "He wanted her to wait for him, then?"
Pyotr says (to Guard), "What, he left already? We were told to bring her here."
[Crows-Nest] Maxwell says, "gotta love letting the hothead talk when things don't go as planned"

GM says, "There's various pieces of furniture about. The main feature is a large table in the center of the room."
GM says, "(there's nobody else in here right now that you can see)"
Raelynn-Fleur peers closely at the table, while still listening to the guard outside. She runs her hand over the table surface, pressing lightly

Era continues to harrass Pyotr, lending verisimilitude to his foul state.

Raelynn-Fleur listens to the noise outside and quickly pulls out her sketchbook
Raelynn-Fleur copies down some of the notes and sketches an outline of the map
GM says, "After poring over those a bit, you see a red 'X' marked to the southeast, just behind Breslau castle."

Pyotr pulls some dice out of his pocket, tosses them on the ground, and bounces them over by the guard's feet.
Pyotr says, "Whoops."
Raelynn-Fleur tries to figure out elevation on the map
[Crows-Nest] Maxwell says, "hee hee hee"
[Crows-Nest] Pyotr says, "Pyotr will single-handedly invent the billboard"
[ussura] GM says, "Indeed-the cliff is to the east; the castle overlooks it. The X would be in the valley, then, at the bottom of it."
[Crows-Nest] Pyotr says, "just as a way to telegraph his stupid plans"
Era clutches Pyotr's arm, "But sweet-heart, you promised you wouldn't!" she cries.
Raelynn-Fleur makes appropriate notations to the sketch
Burly_Guard says, "Dreng doesn't let us gamble. I'm afraid you lost your money to some *other* sot in this gang."
[ussura] Pyotr says (to era), "I hope that's not my guard-knocking-out arm"
[ussura] Alixandre says, "or your dice-throwing arm"
Pyotr asks, "Aw, too bad. Can you hand me those dice?"
Burly_Guard looks skeptically at Pyotr.
Pyotr says, "Hey, no worries."
Raelynn-Fleur looks around the tent
Charles watches the three of them, then shakes his head, chuckling.
[ussura] Raelynn-Fleur asks, "no chest of drawers? no trunk?"
Pyotr bends towards the dice, and then quickly grabs the guard's legs and dumps him on the ground.
[ussura] Raelynn-Fleur asks, "no bed?"
Raelynn-Fleur winces at the thud
[ussura] Sebastien says, "ha ha ha"
[ussura] Pyotr asks, "I'm guessing brawn check?"
[ussura] Charles exclaims (at Rae), "This is not the time!"
GM says (to R/F), "A few chairs and cushions. The back of the tent seems has a hanging wall, sectioning it off from the main area."
[ussura] Sebastien says, "man, pyotr is awesome"
Charles winces.
[ussura] GM says, "Hee hee"
[ussura] GM asks, "OK, roll, uh, wrestling?"
[ussura] GM says, "Something with brawn."
Raelynn-Fleur peeks behind the "wall"
[ussura] Pyotr asks, "dirty fighting?"
[ussura] GM says, "Sure."
[ussura] Pyotr asks, "brawn+DF?"
[ussura] Alixandre says, "I cannot tell you how thankful I am to be missing wrestling a guard to the ground."

Pyotr says (to Charles), "(whispering) quick, the rope."
[ussura] GM asks, "OK, you remember there are other guards around, right?"
[ussura] Raelynn-Fleur asks, "is a pile of black velvet significant?"
[ussura] Pyotr exclaims, "I asked that earlier!"
[ussura] GM says, "Oops, sorry."
[ussura] Charles says, "Y'know, I have no idea what Pyotr is doing."
[ussura] Pyotr says, "not that Pyotr would have cared"
Raelynn-Fleur examines the black velvet closely
[ussura] GM says (to RF), "OK, hang on a sec."
Pyotr exclaims (at Rae), "(whispering more loudly) Okay, time to go, let's move!"
Charles looks at Pyotr like he's crazy.
[ussura] GM says, "The scene is (or, um, was intended to be) the same as last time."
[ussura] Pyotr says, "okay"
[ussura] Pyotr says, "it wouldn't have changed my plan"
[ussura] Pyotr says, "now we all run away again"
[ussura] Pyotr says, "(is my plan)"
[ussura] GM says, "Hee hee"
Charles says, "I'm sure there's a better way to get your money back..."
[ussura] Pyotr says, "((the rather hasty one I came up with when I realized we're too late to stop Devoe))"
[ussura] Charles says (to Pyotr), "Here I thought we were going to just let Raelynn escort us back out of camp."
[ussura] Pyotr says, "too late now"

[ussura] GM says, "Arright; let's see what happens."
Pyotr asks (of Guard), "Hey, you okay?"
[ussura] Charles says, "In any case, I'm not going to burn any bridges until Rae comes out."
other_guards exclaims, "Hey!"
Pyotr says, "You didn't eat any of that roast tonight? That about killed my friend."
other_guards start running up to see what's going on.
Charles says (to guards), "It's OK, I think it's under control now..."
Alixandre murmurs (to Sebastien), "I think it is too late for me to accuse someone else of being interested in my one true love."
[ussura] Pyotr says (to alix), "hee hee"
Burly_Guard sputters and draws his sword.
Pyotr slams burly's head on the ground.
Burly_Guard says, "What do you--erk"
Charles says, "Or maybe not."
[ussura] Raelynn-Fleur asks, "i am at the back of the tent - do i hear Pyotr's whisper?"
Pyotr exclaims, "Hey, be careful. Don't want to do that if you're sick!"
[ussura] GM says, "No, but you do hear some General Consternation."
[ussura] Pyotr says, "remember, pyotr != subtle"
Raelynn-Fleur lifts up the black velvet for a better look
Charles asks (of Pyotr), "Er. Do you think he needs some fresh air?"
Pyotr says (to Charles), "That's a great idea."
Pyotr hauls Burly to his feet (totally supporting him) and starts to "walk" him around a bit.
Charles moves tot he other side of the guard to help carry him.
[ussura] GM says, "Hee hee. OK, roll a Bluff or something. Wits, and you can use Rep dice."
[ussura] Pyotr says, "yay"
[ussura] Pyotr asks, "are rep dice kept?"
[ussura] GM says, "Yeah, they're like drama dice."

[ussura] GM says, "OK: Raelynn."
Alixandre says, "In this case it was false true love, alas."

GM says (to Raelynn), "There's an inordinate amount of it, fairly thick and very heavy. You search through it, but it doesn't seem to be concealing anything."

[ussura] Raelynn-Fleur asks, "it's not a robe or anything?"

GM says, "You examine that spot more closely, and you see that that bit crackles."
GM says, "As if something dark spilled on it, then hardened."
Raelynn-Fleur gathers up the fabric and brings it to the front of the tent
Raelynn-Fleur carefully glances out of the tent to see who is still outside

[ussura] GM says, "Back to the guards, to see how well the bluff worked:"

Raelynn-Fleur sees the guards still at the front, and stays inside
other_guard asks, "Valovoi? You OK?"
[ussura] Charles says, "Which, arguably, also describes Pyotr..."
[ussura] Sebastien says, "ha"
Charles says (to Guard), "I think he'll be alright. He's just gotta walk it off."
Burly_Guard starts to stir again.
Raelynn-Fleur goes to the back of the tent again, and tries to see with a silhouette if anyone is guarding the back of the tent
Pyotr asks (of New_Guard), "How about you? You play dice?"
Raelynn-Fleur gets down on the ground and peers to see if she sees any feet, too
GM says (to R), "You'll have to pick up the edge to see past."
GM says, "(Which you just did)"
Charles says (to Pyotr), "You're going to get yourself in trouble with those dice of yours. You know the rule."
[ussura] Pyotr asks, "am I the only one who wants to get Rae out of the tent and go hunt down Devoe?"
GM says (to R), "One guard just completed the circuit; there's nobody left at this point."
Pyotr says (to Charles), "I can't see the harm in a friendly game."
Pyotr exclaims, "The coins are just to keep score!"
Burly_Guard shakes his head as if to clear it.
other_guard asks, "Valovoi?"
Raelynn-Fleur drapes the fabric onto herself and quickly slices through the tent back flap
Pyotr says, "I hit my head like that once, my ears were ringing for a week. Couldn't hear my own father."
[ussura] Raelynn-Fleur asks, "can i slice open a hole big enough to step out?"
Charles asks (of Valvovoi), "Take it easy... how many fingers am I holding up?"
Pyotr says, "'Pyotr!' He'd yell at me. Couldn't make it out."
Pyotr asks, "Something about a boyar, I never did hear. It was about then that I left home, y'know?"
[ussura] Charles says (to Pyotr), "If she doesn't come out on her own soon, I'm with you. Although hopefully without these two guards on is."
GM says, "Raelynn slips out the back, under a swath of black velvet."
[ussura] Pyotr says (to charles), "well, that was my plan with knocking out the only guard who heard our story about her waiting there"
Charles says (to other_guard), "Can you take him back to his tent? I think he could use a drink."
Raelynn-Fleur keeps to the shadows as she tries to wave at Era to get her attention without actually going to the front of the tent
[ussura] Alixandre says, "this part of the adventure has involved far too much grunting and knocking people about and far too little gentle persuasion"
Burly_Guard says, "Pyotr? Wait, that's..."
Era catches Raelynn's eye.
[ussura] Sebastien says, "ha ha"
other_guard exclaims, "It's them!"
[ussura] Raelynn-Fleur asks, "can i see where Alix and Seb are hiding?"
Charles says (to Burly), "Right,t hat's Poytr -- OK, you're going to be fine. But be careful from now on."
[ussura] Raelynn-Fleur asks, "and can i get to them?"
Pyotr throws Burly to the ground, again.
[ussura] GM says, "You can orient yourself--they're on the other side of the clearing."
Raelynn-Fleur waves towards the edge of the clearing to Era, as she stays in the shadows and heads to where Alix and Seb are
[ussura] Charles says, "Note to self: if you intend to maintain subterfuge, *do not go anywhere with Pyotr*."
other_guard draws his sword.
Burly_Guard falls to the ground.
Raelynn-Fleur tries to keep the fabric from dragging as she makes her way...the black has got to help with concealment, somehow
[ussura] Alixandre says, "are we shooting at these guards? Or are you still depending on, hm, subterfuge"
[ussura] Pyotr says, "subertuge is just a river in the Crescent"
[ussura] GM says, "Let's go ahead and roll a round of initiative."
[ussura] Pyotr says, "man, figners"

Era raises a hand to slap him again.
[ussura] Alixandre says, "I was shooting for guy drawing sword"
[ussura] Pyotr says, "I dunno if a 12 counts as 'accurate'"
[ussura] Alixandre exclaims, "that's why the extra 5!"
[ussura] GM says, "OK, that's a miss."
[ussura] Sebastien says, "the "5" stands for "Accuracy""
[ussura] Charles says, "I dunno if a 17 coutns as 'accurate'."
GM says, "And an arrow whizzes out of the underbrush."
Sebastien says, "gracious me, Alixandre, there appears to be some sort of disturbance in that general direction"
GM exclaims, "Sebastien!"

Alixandre says, "I fear you shall have to lead the way, for my initial sortie was ill aimed."

Raelynn shakes the fabric off her as they regroup.
Alixandre says, "Yes, though the former spill blood and the latter can, in a pinch, be used to stanch it."
Charles says, "Our record for kidnapping Devoe seems to be sadly lacking, I notice."
Pyotr says, "I wonder where he could have gone."
GM says, "Raelynn holds up the fabric, which has a lot more tears and holes in it than it did when she first picked it up."
Pyotr says, "I didn't have much luck getting the guard to talk."
Charles asks (of Raelynn), "What is that?"
Raelynn says, "i found it in the tent"
Charles asks, "A sail?"
Raelynn says, "i am not sure what it is, but i thought this patch looked interesting"
Raelynn says, "look, (pointing) something spilled on it"
Charles says, "Doesn't look like sailcloth..."
Alixandre says, "Unusual fabric? Please, let me have a look."
Raelynn says (to Alix), "after we are done with it, you can have a doublet made for yourself"
Raelynn says, "or maybe a waistcoat"
Raelynn says, "the black would be quite dashing"
Charles asks (of Raelynn), "Did you find anything that might indicate where Devoe was headed with Fleur?"
GM says, "As you hold it up to a brighter light, you realize that the patch is probably red."
Raelynn says (to Charles), "oh yeah"
Raelynn opens up the sketchbook
Raelynn says, "here is a map i found in the tent"
Raelynn says, "of breslau"
Raelynn says, "and there's this X in the valley right by the castle"
Alixandre stares closely at the patch.
Pyotr says, "Hmm, none of the other lines are near it"
Pyotr says, "We should go check it out"
Raelynn says, "and this is also how the army is gonna move. they are not going to be going sw at all"
Charles says, "Yes."
Pyotr says, "But we should also give this to the city guard"
Raelynn asks (of Alix), "any ideas?"
Charles says, "That fits with what we know."
[ussura] GM asks (of Alix), "Are you looking at some particular feature of the patch?"
[ussura] GM asks, "Or do you want to just roll?"
[ussura] Alixandre says, "Since I wasn't around for the initial patch-looking, I'm checking out its texture and if it has any noticeable smell."

[ussura] GM says, "No, asking particular questions is great."
GM says, "The patch is small; maybe coin-sized. The texture is crisp--it breaks and crackles as you move the cloth underneath it."
Alixandre says, "I believe the owner should have fired his tailor."
GM says, "And the smell--oh. It's a drop of blood."
[ussura] Alixandre says, "is it red or more red-brown -- aha"
[interludes] Raelynn asks, "let me refresh my memory - i can't use attunement to sense anyone else's blood, right?"
Alixandre says, "And perhaps used one of his handkerchiefs -- not mine, note -- to prevent excess bleeding"
