Wilson switches computers.
Amber has connected.
Amber exclaims, "Arr!"
[7thsea] Wilson says (to Sarge), "Not confusing, just being hopeful ;-)"
[7thsea] Sargent says, "Ah. Well, BL took up my entire weekend and much of my sleepy time this weekend."
[7thsea] Wilson asks, "BL?"
[7thsea] Alex says (to Wilson), "Awwwk! Word on the street is that bl is bale, barrel, black, block, blue."
[7thsea] Sargent says (to Alex), "Brass Lantern is Sargent's interactive fiction site at http://brasslantern.org/"
[7thsea] Alex says (to Sargent), "Okay, Brass Lantern is that long thing you just said."
[7thsea] Sargent says (to Alex), "BL means Brass Lantern"
[7thsea] Alex exclaims (at Sargent), "Awwwk! Alex already knows about BL!"
[vodacce] Wilson asks (of Sarge), "Have you worked out how we know each other yet?"
[vodacce] Sargent says, "I have indeed."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Can you tell us? We were thinking of chatting in character, just to get into stuff."
[vodacce] Sargent says, "Mrm. Dinner has just finished cooking, and I was going to idle."
[vodacce] Sargent says, "Hang on."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Heh. Go ahead."
[vodacce] Amber has joined the channel.
[vodacce] Sargent says, "Right. Venzi has been hired by Mayhew as a guard. Amber is guarding Chiara. Other than that, no connections exist prior to the beginning of the game."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Ah, cool."
[vodacce] Amber says, "who is chiara (other than emily short)"
[vodacce] Emily says, "a courtesan interested in finding out, if possible, what her ancestry is"
[vodacce] Wilson says, "http://www.bioc.rice.edu/~lpsmith/IF/7thSea/vodacce/"
[vodacce] Amber says, "and as Amber has quite the history with Houses, could be some help. makes sense."
[vodacce] Miseri exclaims, "Arr!"
Giancarlo has connected.
Giancarlo says, "Eh, nobody told me we were gonna meet before Signor Granadi's official opening."
[vodacce] Niccolo asks, "Is Mayhew Wilson?"
[vodacce] Venzi says, "these vodacce are notorious for their pseudonyms"
[vodacce] Amber says, "yes"
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Yes."
[vodacce] Giancarlo asks, "arr?"
[vodacce] Alex says (to Giancarlo), "Awwwk! Word on the street is that Arr is what pirates say."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "(although I'm not vodacce, of course)"
[vodacce] Giancarlo asks (of Alex), "You gotta big beak, bird. Wanna see if this knife fits in it?"
[vodacce] Alex asks (of Giancarlo), "Um, seven?"
[vodacce] Giancarlo knocks Alex's block off.
Wilson says (to Giancarlo), "I know your offical start date is next week, but I know so little about Vodacce, I was hoping you could 'show me the ropes' as we say in my country."
Dana has connected.
Giancarlo grins. "Si ... an' who might you be?"
Wilson says, "For example," (as we stroll by), "I've seen a lot of these pecularly decorated houses around the city. What are they?""
Chiara merely smiles behind her half-mask
Venzi follows a few steps behind Wilson, glancing alertly into the dark alleys to either side.
Giancarlo asks, "Ahhh ... these are nunneries. The red light is to match with the priest's robes, yes? Why do you not go inside?"
Wilson says, "Oh, sorry--I'm Wilson Mayhew. My patron is hiring you to help protect me for my visit here.""
[vodacce] Wilson asks, "Er, wait--was that Venzi?"
Giancarlo stops outside a house of particularly ill repute.
[vodacce] Venzi says, "(yes)"
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Oops, right."
[vodacce] Venzi says, "giancarlo is just some guy you met on the street, I guess"
[vodacce] Venzi says, "but I'm sure he is PERFECTLY SAFE"
[vodacce] Wilson laughs.
Giancarlo says (to Mayhew), "You see, the nuns wear half-masks as shields of their modesty."
Amber notes Chiara's grin, and chuckles to herself.
Wilson says (to Gian), "Oh, the church."
Wilson's face falls slight.
[vodacce] Wilson says, "slighly."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "slightly. Sigh."
[vodacce] Amber says, "hee hee."
Giancarlo says (to Mayhew), "(They are very chaste and learned women, signor. I am sure they could tell you much)"
Chiara says, "Well, chased women, at any rate."
Giancarlo hides a grin.
Amber whispers to Chiara, "I need a shovel for all this, ah, manure.
Wilson peers at everyone suspiciously.
Chiara says (aside to Amber), "but Giancarlo is enjoying himself so much!"
Giancarlo winks at the ladies.
[vodacce] Wilson asks, "What's the rule for rolling a knack you have at 0?"
[vodacce] Wilson wants to try a 'cold read' on Gian.
Amber winks back.
Chiara holds her fan in front of her face and watches Wilson curiously
[vodacce] Chiara has joined the channel.
Wilson eyes the building.
Wilson says, "Well, they don't make church buildings like this in Avalon, that's all I can say."
Giancarlo says (to Wilson), "Of course, these poor sisters of charity are as poor as, well, church mice. They always welcome donations, though the prouder ones will insist on returning some trifling service."
Chiara coughs.
Wilson looks around carefully.
Chiara gasps, "Something caught in my throat, I think."
Amber pounds Chiara helpfully on the back.
Wilson says (nervously), "Well, perhaps it would be a good idea to donate to the church, since they are in power here."
Giancarlo says (to Wilson), "Here, it would do your soul good to drop a few senators in the palm of the young lady there."
Chiara says (to Wilson), "Very much in power."
Amber pretends to be fascinated with the view of the street.
Giancarlo says (to Wilson), "(aside) as a note, though ... they are so unused to men and the outside world, they tend to speak in riddles."
Wilson searches his pouch. "Uh, all I have are Avalonian notes."
Amber . o O ( poor sucker. )
Amber . o O ( poorer sucker, now. )
[vodacce] Venzi says, "ha"
Giancarlo drops a few senators in Wilson's hand and nudges him in Chiara's direction.
Wilson says (to Gian), "Oh! Uh, thanks."
Chiara smirks a little behind her mask
Chiara says, "Perhaps those indoors are more in need than I"
Wilson says (to Chiara), "Here you go. Uh, sister."
Wilson repays Gian in Avalonian notes.
Amber nudges Chiara.
Amber says (to Chiara), "You can't rip him off like that."
Chiara has a very dubious expression on her face as she counts the coins.
Giancarlo says, "(I think that's her way of saying 'come inside and speak with mother superior')"
Chiara says (to Wilson), "Do come inside and meet those who benefit by your generosity."
Chiara gestures towards the building
Chiara waits expectantly
Wilson looks around suspiciously again.
[vodacce] Wilson asks, "What's the rule? -1k0?"
Amber says, "I do believe the young man is nervous."
Chiara says (to Wilson), "Don't worry, the sisters don't bite."
Chiara says, "Unless, er, requested."
Amber says (to Chiara), "Unless you pay them to."
Wilson blinks.
[vodacce] Venzi says, "and no dice explode, I think"
[7thsea] Wilson rolls 2k2 (no explosions): 5 6 | 11
Giancarlo pretends to be watching something else on the other side of the canal.
[vodacce] Amber asks, "TN 10?"
[7thsea] Giancarlo rolls 2k2: 7 5 | 12
[vodacce] Amber asks, "how hard can it be to recognize a brothel?"
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Cold read is a contested roll vs. Resolve, I think."
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "i think cold read is resisted...."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Which he *barely* got."
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "hee"
[vodacce] Giancarlo says (to Amber), "depends on how cloistered the person is."
Wilson asks (of Amber), "You can pay nuns to bite?"
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Another CR on Amber."
[7thsea] Wilson rolls 2k2: 4 6 | 10
[7thsea] Amber rolls 2k2: 9 8 | 17
Wilson says, "Truly, this is an odd country."
Amber says (to Wilson), "No."
Amber says (to Chiara), "Madame, I believe he has yet to be introduced to our form of worship."
Chiara stands a little aside, an amused expression on her face
Chiara laughs
Chiara says (to Amber), "I can well believe it."
Amber says (to Chiara), "Let's take the young man inside. I believe he'll be pleasantly suprised."
Amber asks (of Wilson), "Sir?"
Chiara hooks an arm through Wilson's elbow.
Chiara says, "At the very least, you shall like the wine."
Wilson says, "Really, um, seeing a church was, sadly, low on the list of things I wanted to do today."
Venzi coughs politely.
Chiara rolls her eyes.
Giancarlo says (to Venzi), "(Shhh ... this should be fun.)"
Amber says, "We insist. Especially after your generous donation."
Wilson sighs.
Amber says, "Apres vous, monsieour."
Wilson says, "Well, all right. Get me to the nunnery."
Venzi says (to Wilson), "I believe you going inside there would be harmful to my future employment"
Wilson asks (of Venzi), "Eh?"
Chiara turns to Venzi.
Venzi says, "but, if you truly wish to inspect a brothel, I can perhaps recommend some with prettier ladies"
Wilson exclaims, "A brothel!"
Chiara mutters something about spoilsports.
Giancarlo thinks "Oooo, 'prettier ladies', is it?" and clears a space between Venzi and Amber/Chiara.
Amber chortles, having hated taking advantage of the country gent.
Wilson looks at the house, notices the decided lack of actual religious symbols, starts to laugh.
Wilson says (to Gian), "You, my friend, are a piece of work."
Giancarlo shrugs. "I almost had you there, no?"
Amber says, "Well at the least, you deserve to see the inside, and the, ah, "prettier" ladies."
Wilson asks, "And I already made my 'donation', eh? Sure, why not?"
Wilson says (to Venzi), "Thanks for rescuing me; I promise I won't spread rumors of your badguidesmanship."
Chiara leads the way
Amber opens the door with a flourish.
Wilson enters, still chuckling.
Wilson asks (of Gian), "You coming?"
Giancarlo says, "but of course."
Wilson looks around.
Venzi shrugs, and steps in after.
Giancarlo winks at the ladies again and gives his "donation".
Amber . o O ( A little too chintzy, but not too bad. )
Amber says (to Chiara), "Not quite the quality you're accustomed to, I would think."
[vodacce] Amber asks (of chiara), "you work(ed) somewhere else, right?"
[vodacce] Chiara says, "I'm a high-rent kind of girl"
[vodacce] Giancarlo says (to Chiara), "in other words, your services also require flowers, poetry, and maybe a few expensive dinners."
[vodacce] Chiara says, "more the goes-to-parties, is-wooed-by-rich-guys kind, not the handful of coins sort, hence the disdainful reaction to Giancarlo's "contribution""
[vodacce] Chiara says, "right"
[vodacce] Amber says, "more a courtier than a courtesan, then."
Sargent materializes.
[vodacce] Chiara says, "mm, still a courtesan; just a pricey, delicately and thoroughly educated one"
Niccolo has disconnected.
[vodacce] Amber says, "with discriminating taste in bodyguards."
[vodacce] Wilson asks, "So, probably not the type to actually be hanging around a brothel?"
Sargent goes, and in doing so leaves.
[vodacce] Chiara says (to Wilson), "right"
Sargent materializes.
Giancarlo says, "Mmm... I don't think I've been here in a while...."
[vodacce] Venzi says, "uh"
Niccolo has connected.
Giancarlo says, "Marietta will be upset at me."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "OK, so to insert foot in mouth again: (-;"
Wilson asks (of Chiara), "So, how long have you worked here?"
[vodacce] Venzi asks, "actually, if everyone's here, I should probably mention that the goodbye dinner for a just-laid-off-coworker has apparently been rescheduled for next tuesday as the only time he can do it -- is there any chance we can, yet again, reschedule this?"
Chiara looks at Wilson coolly.
Amber draws on her long experience with mouthy nobility to contain her chuckles.
Wilson asks (of Chiara), "What?"
[vodacce] Giancarlo asks, "like, maybe reschedule to today?"
Chiara says (to Wilson), "I think you have yet to learn some discrimination in, shall we say, quality."
Chiara gestures at her surroundings. "These young ladies are, no doubt, charming and obliging, and just what the chance traveler might like."
Wilson says, "Ah er."
[vodacce] Sargent says (to Venzi), "I can reschedule; you'd need to check with everyone else as well."
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "I'm not really prepared to give this any significant level of attention tonight, personally."
Chiara glances at her own gloves. "I doubt they are particularly skilled in polite conversation, however."
[vodacce] Amber says, "now's good."
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "Now's good for me."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "I don't think Sarge is ready."
[vodacce] Sargent says, "Now is not possible tonight, thank you very much."
[vodacce] Venzi says, "I -- right"
[vodacce] Sargent says, "Perhaps I have not been explicit enough."
[vodacce] Amber says, "not now is also good."
[vodacce] Venzi asks, "so is, uh, next monday or next wednesday or sometime after that workable for people?"
[vodacce] NewsBoy hollers, "Extra! Extra! Sargent has posted message 10, about 'Tonight', to the bulletin board! If you don't like what I'm saying, it's not my fault!"

I CANNOT RUN #VODACCE TONIGHT, 30 OCTOBER, 2001.
[vodacce] Wilson says (to Sarge), "When would be the earliest? Just as a scheduling delimeter."
[vodacce] Venzi says, "hee hee"
[vodacce] Chiara says, "next monday I will be lying down dead"
[vodacce] Niccolo asks, "Right, then how about nine eastern on the thirtieth, instead?"
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "(Joke)"
[vodacce] Chiara says, "since I will have spent the night on a bus and then taught and given a presentation"
[vodacce] Amber says, "wednesday is bad"
[vodacce] Sargent says, "The earliest would be this coming weekend on forward."
[vodacce] Chiara says, "this coming weekend is not happening"
[vodacce] Venzi exclaims, "on a bus? shocking!"
[vodacce] Wilson says, "And this weekend is Boston for two of us."
[vodacce] Chiara says (to Venzi), "yeah yeah shuttup"
[vodacce] Sargent says (to Chiara), "I know. He wanted a delimiter."
[vodacce] Niccolo asks, "What about Monday?"
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "Wait, missed Chiara's comment."
[vodacce] Venzi asks, "er .. thursday the 8th?"
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "I *think* I can do that day, but I'm not positive."
[vodacce] andyf has left the channel.
[vodacce] Chiara says, "I guess that would probably work"
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "anything's good for me."
[vodacce] Amber says, "sure - thursday(s) are fine."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Thursday works for us. Also, timing."
[vodacce] Venzi says, "sorry about this -- I did try and get them to reschedule for a different day but it was apparently Not Happening"
[vodacce] Giancarlo asks, "no objections to Thursday, then?"
[vodacce] Chiara says, "no"
[vodacce] Wilson says, "So moved and seconded."
[vodacce] Giancarlo says (to Venzi), "On the bright side, I get to spend more time with stepmom when she visits Toronto."
[vodacce] Amber says, "nada"
[vodacce] Amber says, "aya"
[vodacce] Amber says, "scuse me. AYE to the vote, nada to the objections."
[vodacce] Venzi says, "hee hee"
Chiara has disconnected.
[vodacce] Amber says, "would it be safer to schedule for the following week? good GMing cannot be rushed."
[vodacce] NewsBoy hollers, "Extra! Extra! Sargent has posted message 10, about 'New time', to the bulletin board! Imminent death of retina predicted! What, this is news?"
#10 [games/7thsea/vodacce] From: Sargent Date: 30-Oct-01 20:59
Subject: New time
8th November, 2001, 8pm EST.
[vodacce] Sargent asks, "Wait, were we talking about *this* Thursday?"
[vodacce] Giancarlo asks, "no?"
[vodacce] Wilson says, "No, the 8th."
[vodacce] Sargent says, "Phew."
[vodacce] Amber says, "I thought we were. oops."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "(was my understanding)"
Venzi has disconnected.
[vodacce] Sargent says, "Again, I was not clear enough. The earliest I will be ready is this coming weekend, which is not possible because of inky and Emily being gone."
Chiara has connected.
[vodacce] inky says, "we are troublemakers like that"
Chiara says, "rar"
[vodacce] inky says, "but in a loveable way"
[vodacce] Niccolo asks, "Is this back to that kitten and toilet paper thing again?"
[vodacce] inky says, "is it ever"
[vodacce] Amber says, "my cats use the litter box."
[vodacce] Giancarlo asks, "so ... 8th Nov?"
[vodacce] Amber says, "ok by me"
[colonial] Miseri debates the wisdom of doing Colonial this Saturday.
[colonial] Amber says, "dunno about saturday - we're embroiled in car shopping. whoo hoo."
[colonial] Giancarlo says, "vroom"
[colonial] Amber says, "but the evening should be free, I think."
Wilson says (to Chiara), "Ah, I get it. So you just happened to be passing by, and saw your chance to take advantage of a poor island bumpkin."
Chiara says (to Wilson), "It seems to me that the advantage was, er, already being taken."
Wilson says, "Ah, but Gian's guilders are in your pocket, and my notes in Gian's purse."
Chiara says (to Wilson), "Consider it a lesson in Vodacce nature"
Chiara says, "and cheaply bought at the price"
[colonial] Giancarlo says, "Mm ... well, I'm probably not free Saturday until about 7 anyway, so if evenings are free that's fine by me."
Wilson sighs dramatically.
Giancarlo chuckles.
Wilson asks (of Chiara), "So, polite conversation, is it? What's your opinion of the *real* church here in Vodacce, then?"
[vodacce] Chiara says, "(er, sorry, was afk, and in fact need to do some other work now)"
[vodacce] Chiara says, "(greek reading calling my name)"
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Heh, 'sokay."
[vodacce] Sargent says, "and spelling it with omegas and alphas and stuff."
Chiara smiles and slips out.
Chiara has disconnected.
Sargent disappears through an invisible gap in the MUD. You think you may have heard the sounds of chatting before the gap closed again.
Amber follows her mistress.
Amber has disconnected.
Wilson says, "OK, done here, I suppose."
