Chiara asks, "What exactly are you planning to say?"
Amber says (to Ridolfo), "Someone who is either very loud, or very good at fencing."

[interludes] Fortunato says, "It would have more to do with information that has come to my attention regarding some broadswords that went astray from our stores."

Wilson exclaims, "Then we get a rematch between him and Amber!"
[interludes] Ridolfo opens his mouth, then shuts it when Sir Guy looks at him blandly.

Chiara says, "what would be more interesting is if we could, perhaps, investigate his possessions without him present"
Amber says, "I'd be sorry to have to fight him, but I'd do it.  And beat him again, too"
Chiara says, "though perhaps there is nothing incriminating to find."
[interludes] Dixon asks, "The ones used in the unfortunate attempt on Meander's life?"
Venzi says, "he does have a house in the city also, I suppose"

Chiara says, "I am inclined to think we would learn little simply by barging in on him en masse"

[interludes] Fortunato takes a deep breath. "Let me make this plain, then, sir: Danel needs to bide his time tonight in one of my cells. Should you wish to accompany him, I can make room for two."

Chiara says (to Amber), "I confess I don't know where I would begin with him; I might, perhaps, ask how much he trusted Danel, but it seems as though that might lead to trouble..."
[interludes] Fortunato says, "Very well. I have reason to believe that he, possibly assisted by others, removed broadswords from our stores and arranged them at the bottom of the canal in an attempt to kill Meander."
Wilson says, "I got a message from her earlier today.  I'd like to give it a shot.  Perhaps it would be better if I went alone, though--I'm bound to be safe, at least, and thenthe rest of us could potentially do useful things if this is a wash."
[interludes] Danel says, "never did."
[interludes] Dixon asks, "'Others?' You suspect me as well?"
Wilson asks (of Ridolfo), "Can you take me to see her?"
Chiara says, "Very well."

Ridolfo grimaces. "I can, if you insist."
[interludes] Dixon says, "Very well. Take custody of Danel, and I hope you will not have my death to investigate come tomorrow."
Amber says, "I suggest you have someone accompany you, at least as far as her door."

Amber starts walking back towards their rooms.

Dixon opens the door wide.
Chiara goes in.  "I'm really quite sorry-- I hope Danel is not sick?"
[interludes] Ridolfo stops before the doors you recognize from two nights before, though by now it seems months have past since you last saw them.
Chiara asks, "Or... in some sort of trouble, perhaps?"
Dixon says, "Yes, I imagine you might have heard, seeing as how it was one of your companions who evidently spoke to Fortunato."
Amber follows Chiara in, and promptly starts running her hands over the floor to find the "lost" earring.
Chiara looks sidelong at Dixon.
Dixon says, "Fortunato holds him, and thinks he was involved in that first attempt on Meander's life."
Chiara looks at her fingernails.
[interludes] Ridolfo says, "One second. Let me check."
[interludes] Ridolfo opens the doors and slips inside.
Chiara says, "I had heard that there was some... curious coincidence involving him.  But not that that news had already reached Fortunato."
Chiara asks, "How well do you know him?"
Dixon asks, "Not informed of what Niccolo was up to?"

Chiara's forehead crinkles.  "I am not finding this earring... I wonder.  If Danel is indeed guilty, things will look bad for you.  But I suppose Fortunato does not think so, at least not yet, or he would... well, who knows."
[interludes] Wilson says, "So--we discovered that Danel, Sir Guy's servant, was the one that obtained the swords that were later used in an assassination attempt."
Chiara shrugs prettily.
[interludes] Wilson also nods in response.
[interludes] Contessa says, "six of swords. ten of cups."
[interludes] Contessa asks, "what do you see when your eyes are closed?"
[interludes] Contessa says, "I see the world"
Dixon says, "I find it rather unnerving to potentially be on the receiving end of one of Fortunato's investigations."
[interludes] Wilson shrugs regretfully.  "I see but darkness."
Chiara says, "Indeed.  He seems extremely zealous."
[interludes] Wilson asks (of Contessa), "But what do you see when you look out the window?"
Chiara says, "But I will confess that things look rather damaging for Danel."
[interludes] Contessa asks, "two of staves. why only two, where six were?"
Amber says, "Hmm.  I find his scrutiny somewhat annoying, though he does seem to try to be fair."
Dixon asks, "No sign of the earring? I fear it might be lost; did you hope to wear them tonight?"
[interludes] Wilson asks, "Two of staves for Danel?  Sir Guy?"
Chiara says (to Dixon), "I have others, of course; but they are valuable, you know"
Chiara stands up regretfully.
Chiara says, "I suppose I will have to give up."
[interludes] Contessa says, "last I spoke, there were six. now two."
Chiara says (to Amber), "Perhaps you'd give us just a moment?  There's something else-- but I will be along to the room very soon."
Dixon says, "I will be sure to watch for them."
Amber says (to Chiara), "We can check the floor on the way back to our rooms; there is no telling where it might have fallen."
[interludes] Wilson asks, "Because four of them now interact with the one outside of your view?"
Dixon says (to Amber), "And I will be sure to stay close to you tonight if at all possible. I've seen your swordsmanship."
Amber says, "Or I could check by myself, I suppose.  I'll meet you back at the room."
Chiara says (to Amber), "Thank you."
Amber says (to Dixon), "I'm flattered, sir."
Amber says, "Farewell, then."
[interludes] Contessa says, "moths are into the world. I pull and fabric unravels."

Amber leaves, but does not go far.

Amber struggles for a moment with the knot before it yields.
Niccolo finishes buttoning his shirt, and sits down to try to make his shoes take a shine.
[interludes] GM says, "A raise will have him all better by the start of the ball."
Amber asks (of Why?), "What did the two of you discuss?"
[interludes] Wilson says, "Excellent. I do that."
Amber asks (of Chiara), "Why?  What did the two of you discuss?"

Chiara says, "The news that Danel might be hired by anyone is hardly helpful information, I must say."

Amber turns to open one of Chiara's trunks to search for a mask.
[interludes] Wilson says (to Venzi), "Here, keep this applied for an hour or so--it should be better by the start of the ball."

[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "and in the trunk is...."
Niccolo puts the shoes on, and checks his mirror. Mask on, mask off.
[interludes] Venzi stares a bit skeptically at the poultice.
Amber says, "True. And he seemed like such a loyal fellow, among other things.  Not too outspoken, though."
Chiara goes behind the screen.  After a moment a dress is thrown over the screen.
[interludes] GM says, "It smells vaguely of pork and glue."
[interludes2] Giancarlo knocks on the door.
[interludes] Wilson says (to Venzi), "Oh, don't mind the smell."
Amber sighs, and hangs up the discarded dress.
[interludes2] Rosanella exclaims, "One moment!"
Chiara says (to Amber), "Outspoken?  The grave would be more outspoken."
Chiara says, "Here, pass me the green velvet."
Chiara waves a free hand over the top of the screen.
Amber says, "Which outfit? . . .Oh.  One moment."

Amber leafs through the many burdened hangers in the closet.

Amber says, "I didn't think he was that bad."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Well, hey, we might have time to change after all.  Let's head back to our room."
Chiara asks, "What do you know about Rosanella?"
Amber says, "Though of course, it turns out that he was. <sigh>"
Niccolo goes out into the corridor, to see if anyone else is around.
[interludes2] Giancarlo asks, "Good evening, signora.  Preparing for the ball?"
[interludes] Venzi says, "right"
Chiara says (to Amber), "Oh, dear.  I hope you are not too, er, disappointed by this development."

Chiara mutters, "So pointless allowing oneself to have feelings for people one cannot trust."
Amber asks, "She was an ambasador from Bessarion, who was a bit jealous of a wine deal I believe?"

Chiara asks (of Amber), "Yes-- but you haven't heard any more than that?"
Wilson asks (of Niccolo), "Hey there!  How did the meeting with Fortunato go?"

Niccolo says (to Wilson), "Well! I think."
[interludes2] Rosanella laughs. "How kind of you. No, I'm sure I will manage."

Chiara asks (of Amber), "Found the green velvet?"
Wilson exclaims, "Excellent!"
Wilson says, "Here, I gotta change."
Niccolo says, "Danel won't be attending the ball tonight."
Amber says, "Not too much, no.  It is a bit dissapointing, though, since he did not seem to find  me . . ."
Wilson darts into his room.
Amber says, "Well, never mind following that trail, its quite cold at this point."
Wilson says (to Niccolo), "Really?  Wow."
[interludes2] Giancarlo says, "Of course.  Now, once you're ready, I thought perhaps, on the unlikely possibility that you hadn't an escort, we might go in together."
Chiara laughs faintly from behind the screen.  "I had the impression you have several ardent admirers amonst the guards as well."
Niccolo says (to Wilson's Door), "Although Dixon doesn't seem at all pleased with that development."
Amber grins.  "Well, maybe one or two."
Wilson reopens the door. "Sorry!  Come on in."
Chiara peeks over the top of the screen.  "But while you are busily not following this cold trail, perhaps you could give me my gown."
[vodacce] GM says, "hee hee"
Venzi looks through his extremely small set of wearable and non-damp clothing, picks out the best of the lot, makes a few small repairs to stray rips, and stands up again
[interludes2] Rosanella asks, "Oh?"
Amber says, "Oh!  Sorry, here it is."
Venzi says, "oh, yes, a mask"
[interludes2] Rosanella says, "I was under the impression that you had other companions."
Chiara takes the gown.  There is muffled movement from behind the screen, and then a faint oath.
Wilson grabs the first clean outfit he sees and changes into it.
Niccolo goes in. "Yes. Fortunato brought me along when he went to talk with them."
Amber eyes here rather smaller wardrobe for a suitable selection.
Chiara steps out from behind the screen and goes over to examine herself in the mirror.
Amber asks, "Ah, need some help?"
Wilson says (to Niccolo), "We saw the Contessa.  She was looking at Danel's threads, and they seemed to shift.  First the six of staves, then the two of staves."
Chiara turns this way and that, viewing herself from the side.
Niccolo asks, "Or, so he has them?"
Chiara says (to Amber), "I do not like this dress."
[vodacce] Amber says, "fashion roll"
[interludes2] Giancarlo says, "I'm sure I'd cut quite a dashing figure making my entrance with a gondolier on my arm, but...."

Amber asks, "Leg-o-mutton is really not your best look.  How about this one?"
Chiara holds her arms out to demonstrate the perfectly abhorrent state of said sleeves.
[interludes2] Rosanella laughs again. "No, I was thinking of that pretty young courtesan. Chiara, I think was her name?"
Chiara says, "The white silk?  Daring, but-- yes, I think daring is called for this evening."
Venzi scratches his head, and looks at his set.
[interludes] Wilson asks, "Oh, I assume my flesh wounds have gone away at this point?"
[interludes2] Giancarlo says, "<grin> Ah, she doesn't quite compare to you ... and in any case she has her own plans."
Chiara takes the gown and vanishes behind the screen again.  A moment later the green dress sails over into the main part of the room.

[interludes] Wilson says, "Good."
Niccolo asks, "What about Sir Guy?"
Amber sighs again, and carefully puts away the discarded dress.
[vodacce] Emily says, "(I am starting to feel guilty, but Chiara is not, so oh well.)"
[vodacce] Venzi says, "hee hee"
[vodacce] Amber grins.
Wilson says (to Nicolo), "I'm not sure.  I asked her about Danel again, and she paused, yelled "It hurts!" and everything went wonky.  Ridolfo later said she had grabbed our threads reflexively."
Wilson says, "Gave Venzi a nasty burn."
[vodacce] GM laughs.
Niccolo frowns. "Strange."

Chiara emerges again after a moment in a startlingly white-white silk that very few people could get away with, with a scooped neck and gauzy sleeves.  "Now if you'll just do up the back...?"
Amber selects the magenta dress for herself.
[interludes2] Rosanella says, "Though I would be loathe to turn down a dance with you later, were one offered."
Niccolo says, "Hmm... staves..."
Wilson asks (of Niccolo), "Do you know what staves signify?"
[vodacce] GM says, "I notice Chiara doesn't specify if she gets away with the dress either."
[vodacce] GM says, "though I suppose if she runs fast enough."
[vodacce] Chiara says, "That goes without saying."
Amber tosses her dress on the bed, and turns to tie the intricate lacing on Chiara's dress.
Venzi says, "well, I suppose this'll have to do"

Chiara holds out her arms and inspects herself with great satisfaction.
Amber says, "Very nice.  I like the embroidery."
Wilson straightens out his cuffs and collar.

Wilson looks around the room, paying special attention to the corners.

Chiara, properly done up, turns to the selection of accessories and a mask.

Chiara seems to have another thought.  "You said you'd visited Sir Guy's house, didn't you? Did you see or learn anything odd there?"

Amber dons a coordinating vest, and conceals her pistols.

Chiara pulls out another mask from her trunk and displays it to Amber.  "This, er, is I think the best thing I have to go with that color.  I hope you don't mind about the eyebrows."  She holds out something that looks really rather frightening.
Amber asks (of Chiara), "When are you referring to?"
Chiara says (to Amber), "I thought you'd mentioned going to look for me... perhaps I am mistaken."
Amber says, "Oh, then.  I heard about John, and met a very strange man in a skirt."
Chiara blinks.
Chiara says, "In a skirt?""
Amber says, "He was quite outspoken, too.  From far north."
Chiara says, "Northern Avalon?  I have heard of that."

[vodacce] Wilson asks, "Do we have masks?  Where 'we' == Venzi and I?"
[vodacce] GM asks (of Amber), "What all are you rolling?"
Amber asks, "Chiara, that mask would be best used in October.  Is there anything else?  Black, perhaps?"
[vodacce] Venzi says, "no"
[vodacce] GM says, "aha"
[vodacce] Venzi says, "as you recall, there are supposed to be spare masks at the ball"
Chiara says, "Well, if... Goes back and looks in the trunk again."
[vodacce] GM says, "And, no, neither Wilson nor Venzi have masks."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Gotit."
[vodacce] Amber says, "the 5k3's are for fashion, the 4k3 was for concealing my pistols."
Chiara says, "There's this, but..."
[vodacce] Venzi says, "which will probably look dorky"
[vodacce] Venzi says, "but that is life"
Chiara gets out a black demi-mask with a hawk-like beak
[vodacce] GM says, "Perhaps Wilson can get a spider mask."
Wilson says, "OK, I'm ready.  Let's see about the women."
[vodacce] GM says, "all in red and blue with a stylized web"
[vodacce] Amber says, "Wilson, the new spider-man."
Chiara says, "You'll have people in mice costumes fleeing the room."
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "hee"
Wilson crosses the hall and knocks.
Wilson asks, "Are you guys decent?"
Amber says, "Well, its better than the other one. "  She slips it on."
Giancarlo says, "They're decent but whether they're dressed is another matter."
[vodacce] Chiara asks, "Wilson is at our door?"
[vodacce] Chiara asks, "or someone else's?"
Niccolo accompanies Wilson.
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "Yours, I think."
[vodacce] Wilson discovers radioactivity and superpowers all at once.
Amber answers the door.
[vodacce] GM says, "Maybe he's knocking on Ludovica's door"
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Yes, I am."
Giancarlo arrives in the hall from the stair.  Already dressed and ready for the ball.
Amber asks (of Wilson), "We'll be just a moment.  Do you mind waiting?"
[vodacce] Chiara says (to GM), "and it was Meander who wanted him killed?  It all makes sense now..."
Amber asks (of Chiara), "Are you ready?"
Amber slips on her sword belt, and makes sure its comfortable.
Wilson says (to Amber), "Hi!  No, not at all.  Just wanted to tell everyone what we discovered before the ball."
Chiara says (to Amber), "You go ahead, and I'll be right down."
Chiara says, "Or perhaps we should hear this."
Chiara asks (of Wilson), "(from behind Amber) what happened?"
Amber waves Wilson in.
Wilson enters.
Giancarlo asks, "mind if I join in?"
Amber shuts the door.  (to Wilson) "What happened?"
Niccolo says, "We shou--"
Niccolo says, "Or not."
[vodacce] (from Chiara) Giancarlo's nose gets slammed in door
Amber opens the door again.
Wilson says, "Actually, if you're ready, let's all reconnoiter."
Amber says (to Niccolo&Giancarlo), "Sorry, didn't see you there. Come on in."
Giancarlo rubs his nose. "I'm unobtrusive, but not THAT unobtrusive."
Niccolo says, "Er, thank you."
[vodacce] Wilson asks (of Venzi), "You here?"
Niccolo joins them.
Giancarlo slips in.
[vodacce] Venzi says, "I have just stepped out into the corridor"
[vodacce] Venzi says, "I guess I am following"
Wilson waits for everyone to enter.
Amber straps her knives on through little slits in the sides of her skirt.
Wilson says, "I just thought we should all have one last chat before tonight.  We've split up a lot, so we have a lot more information than we would otherwise, but it does us no good if we don't share."
Giancarlo asks (of Wilson), "you'll go first?"
Giancarlo says, "Or wait. I'd rather hear from Nico first."
Wilson says, "At any rate, Venzi and I went to see the contessa.  She was looking at Danel's cards, and said hefirst had the six of staves, then the two of staves."
[vodacce] Chiara asks, "wait, are we all in one room? For the first time in how long?"
Wilson says (to Gian), "This'll only take a sec."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Heh.  Yup."
[vodacce] GM says, "Here, let me take some of you to #interludes just for practics"
[vodacce] Wilson laughs.
[vodacce] Amber asks, "yup, we're all here. Amazing, isn't it?"
Chiara asks, "Staves? Shifting authority, then?"
Niccolo says, "Mmm? Hmmmm."
Wilson says, "She was looking some more, perhaps at Danel, perhaps at one he was connected to, then cried, "It hurts!" and Venzi and I got hit with--something."
Chiara says, "At least, that is the meaning of the suit -- loyalty, authority -- as I have heard it described."
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "Hm. "return from conquest" followed by "watching one's ships sail out"."
Wilson says, "Ridolfo told us she has been losing control, and can grab nearby strands to steady herself, I guess."
Chiara says (to Wilson), "Oh dear."
Chiara asks, "Are you all right?"
Wilson says, "Yes--Venzi got burned, but I managed to patch him up adequately."
Chiara looks over at Venzi with a frown in her eyes, but says nothing.
Venzi touches the side of his head and winces briefly.
Chiara says, "I suppose that she must have come close to seeing... whoever it is."
Giancarlo asks, "Do those cards have any specific meaning?"
Chiara shrugs.
Amber says, "It sounds horrid."
Giancarlo says (to Venzi), "Relax.  The mask will cover it.  No-one will notice."
Chiara asks (of Niccolo), "And you?  What did you learn?"
Niccolo says, "Well, as you may know, I went to speak with Fortunato."
Niccolo says, "I told him what we learned about Danel -- naming no other names, of course. He seemed to believe me."
Chiara says, "We just saw Dixon; he told us Danel had been arrested."
Niccolo says, "He took me al-- yes."
Chiara says, "So apparently Fortunato wasted no time."
Wilson says, "Wow."
Niccolo says, "He.. yes."
Chiara says, "Oh-- sorry, go on."
Niccolo says, "No, no. That's quite alright. Do finish."
Giancarlo says, "hrm."
Wilson says, "That's good, but it does mean our one firm suspect won't be there tonight."
Venzi says, "so if something happens, then .."
Wilson says, "But maybe that means nothing will happen.  Or *less* will happen, which is almost as good."
Chiara says, "Dixon seemed to be in quite a state -- nervous, edgy -- but I'm not sure whether that's guilt or just the unpleasantness of knowing he must be under suspicion too."
Chiara says, "He did say that Danel seemed to be in need of money, and that his loyalty might be for sale."
Niccolo says, "Hmm."
Wilson says, "And there's that mysterious John fellow."
Chiara says, "But that is true of half Vodacce, it seems."
Wilson asks (of Chiara), "Anything else of Danel?"
[Crows-Nest] Giancarlo says, "I *could* offer my services as a bodyguard, but......."
Amber says, "And I have the unpleasant task of protecting our potential suspect.  Though I suppose that means we can keep a closer eye on him."
Niccolo asks, "You or Amber spoke with Danel earlier, yes?"
Chiara glances at Niccolo for a half second.
[Crows-Nest] (from GM) Giancarlo says, "...he's not female."
Chiara says (to Wilson), "only that Dixon met him in Bessarion.  But he didn't think that Rosanella and Danel knew each other before."
[Crows-Nest] Giancarlo says, "hee"
Wilson says, "Hmm.  Still a potential connection."
Chiara says (to Niccolo), "I have not spoken much with Danel, other than in public."
Amber says, "There was that strange man at Sir Guy's home.  The one in the skirt."
Wilson says, "Though to what end, again, is hard to say."
Niccolo asks, "I was just wondering if you recall his diction. Was he fluent in the language?"
Chiara frowns, trying to recall.
[vodacce] Chiara says, "(do I remember anything about his accent?)"
[vodacce] GM asks, "Of Danel's?"
[vodacce] Chiara says, "yah"
[vodacce] GM says, "Avalonian, by the sound of it."
Amber says, "It was not anything I had heard before."
Chiara says, "I noticed no more than the Avalonian accent I expected."
Chiara says, "But if he is indebted, he might sell his allegiance to any odd person, however unsuitable."
Wilson says, "So, just the typical air of erudition and panache."
Amber says, "Similar to Wilson, but uh, more rounded I guess."
Niccolo says, "When he was being arrested, he spoke in broken sentences. Poorly. As though he was forgetting how to speak Vodacce."
Wilson asks (of Niccolo), "You were there?"
Chiara says (to Niccolo), "Being under stress might do that, I guess."
Niccolo says, "Assuming he didn't speak like that before, it would strongly suggest he had something to hide -- that is, that what Rocca told us is very likely true."
Niccolo says (to Wilson), "I was there with Fortunato, yes."
Amber eyes Wilson after the "erudition" phrase.
Wilson asks, "Have they taken him to the dungeon?"
Niccolo says, "That is my understanding."
Chiara asks (of Giancarlo), "What about you?  What have you been up to?"
Giancarlo says, "I've been ensuring that we have some clue as to who is who at tonight's ball."
Wilson says, "Oh?  Do tell."
Chiara raises her eyebrows.
Wilson asks, "Been marking the masks?"
Giancarlo describes the dress he helped Abrielle pick out at the bazaar.
[Crows-Nest] (from Niccolo) Giancarlo says, "Apparently, Danel's going to be wearing a blue suit with a blue purple mask."
Niccolo nods.
[Crows-Nest] Chiara exclaims, "Professor Plum did it!"
[Crows-Nest] Wilson exclaims, "Ha!"
[Crows-Nest] Niccolo wraps up a very special present for Meander.
[Crows-Nest] Wilson exclaims, "With the rope *and* the candlestick!"
Giancarlo says, "Rosanella may be in a light-blue dress with straight lines.  That is what she was wearing not fifteen minutes ago, as she was preparing.  Presumably the dress goes on before the make-up and assorted accoutrements."
[Crows-Nest] Chiara says, "heehee"
[vodacce] Amber exclaims, "ha!"
Chiara asks (of Giancarlo), "You've gone up and down knocking on doors?"
Chiara says, "Or peeking through the keyhole, I suppose"
Amber says (to Chiara), "He's looking for his lost earring."
Giancarlo says (to Chiara), "Whatever works."
Venzi murmurs "Clearly I should be taking notes"
Wilson says, "'Are the children in their beds?  For it's eight o'clock.'"
Chiara says (to Amber), "I suppose I should tell Dixon that I found it in my room."
Giancarlo wonders what Amber is talking about.  His earring is right where it always has been.
Giancarlo says, "Ahem.  I spoke with the servant in charge of handing out masks."
[Crows-Nest] (from Chiara) Giancarlo . o O ( in my nose. )
Chiara says, "Aha."
Amber says (to Chiara), "No, we found it in the hall.  We would have checked our room first - it will look suspicious."
Chiara says (to Amber), "ah, yes, naturally."
[Crows-Nest] Wilson checks his navel.
Giancarlo says, "And, uh, encouraged him to see to it that Sir Guy, Danel and Sabatino get certain distinctive masks."
Chiara says, "Good work."
Giancarlo describes the masks he picked out for them.
Chiara asks, "Sabatino?  You suspect him?"
Wilson nods appreciatively.
Amber asks (of Giancarlo), "Did you encourage him with a knife or with gold or your silver tongue?"
[Crows-Nest] GM says, "Danel has a mask...a mask made of BARS"
Venzi says, "I imagine Sabatino will be recognizable regardless of his mask, but it can't hurt"
[vodacce] Amber says, "the man in the iron mask.'"
Giancarlo says (to Chiara), "I always suspect the gentleman who seems too closely tied to the daughter of the house."
Chiara says (to Venzi), "unless someone else comes in a padded costume and a mask with a bullhorn attached"
Chiara says (to Giancarlo), "I see."
Wilson snorts.
Giancarlo says (to Amber), "I offered him your services.  He was much pleased and could not do enough for me."
Chiara coughs.
Amber now matches her dress.
Amber exclaims (at Giancarlo), "You did what?!"
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "hee"
Chiara says (to Giancarlo), "Your tact grows by leaps and bounds..."
Giancarlo says (to Amber), "10 senators up front, 10 more if he ensures that I know their masks."
Amber exclaims, "He will not need it when I slice his tongue from his body!"
Wilson asks, "Ahem.  Anything else someone wants to share before it's too late?"
[vodacce] GM falls over.
[vodacce] GM says, "I have more fun letting the six of you talk than just about anything."
Chiara thinks.
Amber makes a visible effort to calm down.
Chiara says, "Does anyone have further knowledge about Sir Guy, or Rosanella for that matter, that they haven't shared?  I'm curious about Danel's Bessarion connection."
Giancarlo chuckles softly.
Niccolo says, "In fact..."
Niccolo has been looking thoughtful for some time now.
Chiara looks at Niccolo.
Niccolo says, "I'm ... not certain. But things that were saidhere  have brought to mind other things I've heard in the last few days..."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "It sure beats having to be six different people on three different channels."
Chiara says (to Niccolo), "Do share."
[vodacce] GM says, "Yeah, I should take a very quick nap before the ball scene."
[vodacce] Amber says, "it is a lot of fun.  :-)"
Niccolo says, "In the bazaar, when Rocca wasn't supposed to be there, I overheard him speaking with Abrielle."
Venzi says, "oh dear"
Chiara frowns.  "Saying what?"
Wilson asks, "About?"
Niccolo says, "At the time, I thought little of it, since I didn't even know who he was. But he mentioned something about being on an errand for Signora d'Angelo"
Chiara's eyebrows snap together.
[vodacce] Chiara says, "(facial features by Lego)"
Wilson says (softly) "Rosanella..."
Chiara says, "I see."
[vodacce] Amber says, "hee"
Giancarlo says, "Did he?  Sabatino told me he was seeing to accommodations for Signora d'Angelo for a party from Bessarion."
Amber looks throughtful (though she continues to occasionally glare at Giancarlo).
Chiara asks, "But then... what would Rosanella's motivation be?"
Chiara asks, "Unless it is that her negotiations with Meander have not gone as she wishes?"
Giancarlo can't help smiling. Amber can't take her eyes off him, it seems.
Wilson says, "Or she wants them to be even better."
[Crows-Nest] Chiara says, "snrk"
[vodacce] Amber says, "ahem."
Wilson asks, "Where, or what, is Bessarion, exactly?"
Giancarlo asks, "Hm.  Bessarion is a Villanova city, no?"
[Crows-Nest] GM keeps giggling throughout, causing Misty to ask what's going on.
Venzi says, "yes"
[vodacce] Niccolo asks, "Arr -- can we rewind?"
Wilson asks, "Does it produce its own wine?"
Venzi says (to Wilson), "the Villanova are not noted for being trustworthy"
[vodacce] Venzi says, "uh"
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "I was in the middle of speaking when I got logged off, and now the conversation moved on while my mouth was open. Grrr."
[vodacce] Venzi says, "oops"
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "Sorry, just griping about my connection."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Go ahead and say what you were going to say."
Niccolo says, "When we talked to Rocca, I thought he'd just made that up as an excuse, but then I thought of something else."
Chiara asks, "Oh?"
Niccolo says, "Just earlier today, when I was in town, I heard that Dixon -- or perhaps Danel, as they're in the same room -- has been receiving a number of female visitors of late."
Wilson says, "Oh, right--you asked him why he was at the bazaar.  He said something about tracking shipments."
Chiara asks (of Niccolo), "What, er, class of female visitor?"
[Crows-Nest] GM says (to Chiara), "Bards, mostly."
[Crows-Nest] Wilson says, "A couple clerics here and there."
[vodacce] Amber says, "no fighters? how sad."
Niccolo says (to Chiara), "Well, the assumption was... er. Professional. But rumors tend to develope in the most 'interesting' direction available."
Giancarlo asks, "They go in, but do they come out?"
Venzi asks (of Wilson), "tracking shipments?"
Venzi says, "hmm"
Wilson says (to Venzi), "He claimed he was worried that the swordseller would notice that the swords weren't going to the right place."
Niccolo says, "So what with the report of shifting threads of allegiance... I have to wonder if that visitor was d'Angelo herself."
Wilson says, "The thread shifted as we were speaking--maybe 15 minutes ago."
Chiara says, "If so, it has either been skillfully concealed from Dixon, or he is in on the conspiracy; but I begin to doubt the latter."
Wilson says, "Of course, it could have been shifting the whole time."
Venzi says (to Wilson), "I thought she said it shifted since we had last talked"
Wilson thinks.
Amber tries to recall if she's seen any evidence of Danel being indiscrete.
Wilson says, ""You know, you're right.  It was the six of *swords*, not staves, and a 10 of something.  Cups, perhaps."
Wilson says, "So, yes--the staves were the ones that had shifted."
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "Eeeee"
Chiara says, "Swords is violence or dislike, cups are passion or love"
Chiara says, "So --"
Venzi says, "staves had shifted, yes"
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "Six of swords: "Fear death by water"."
Chiara says, "I confess I had not imagined Danel as a great lover."
Chiara glances at Amber as she says this.
[Crows-Nest] rc says, "Impressive; that really is the meaning of the six of swords."
Venzi coughs.
[Crows-Nest] rc says, "Well, inverted, usually."
[Crows-Nest] Giancarlo says, "I know"
[Crows-Nest] GM says, "'He's very good with his...sword.'"
Amber says, "I imagine you had not thought much of him at all."
Wilson asks, "Number indicates intensity?"
[Crows-Nest] rc says, "You're so edumacated."
Venzi asks, "while we are mentioning seemingly-insignificant details, has anyone heard anything else about shipments in the harbor?"
[Crows-Nest] Amber says, "Yeah, but I'm better."
Wilson says, "Um.  No..."
[Crows-Nest] GM asks, "with his sword?"
Giancarlo asks, "no?"
Venzi says, "I was down at the docks, and someone mentioned that Fortunato was cracking down on piracy recently"
[Crows-Nest] Amber says, "Oh, look, here's a line."
Niccolo asks, "How so?"
[Crows-Nest] Amber asks, "with *mine*, or hadn't you guessed?"
Niccolo asks, "Does he have guards who are sailors?"
[Crows-Nest] Amber clears her throat.
Wilson says, "So if Meander dies, one motive would be that Fortunato would no longer be able to do that as much."
Wilson says, "Oh, and someone mentioned something a few days ago about some villain that hadn't been seen recently."
Venzi says (to Niccolo), "presumably he must command the harbor patrol as well"
Giancarlo says, "Renzino Loccrichio"
Wilson says, "Mabye the real target is Fortunato."
Wilson says, "The Contessa has been known to be wrong before about... something."
Niccolo's glance snaps to Giancarlo.
Wilson says, "Dang, forgot to ask her."
Amber asks (of Wilson), "So we don't know what she may have been wrong about?"
Niccolo asks, "What's that about Locricchio?"
Wilson says (to Amber), "Right.  Fortunato wouldn't tell her."
Giancarlo says (to Niccolo), "the villain who disappeared."
Wilson says, "Er, me."
Niccolo says, "Heh. Disappeared, huh? Hadn't heard..."
Giancarlo asks (of Niccolo), "You seem rather interested.  Why?"
Niccolo says, "Oh... I've had business with him before."
Wilson asks, "He's a buisinessman and a criminal?"
Niccolo says (to Wilson), "Most are, and vice versa, I'm sure."
Giancarlo asks (of Niccolo), "what sort of business?"
Amber says (to Niccolo), "That's rather a harsh view.  But it does keep me in business."
Giancarlo says (to Amber), "And might I say, you are a fine businesswoman."
Niccolo says (to Gian), "Purely financial matters. I owe him money."
Giancarlo says (to Niccolo), "Ah.  I owe him too.  But not money."
Niccolo says, "I admit it wouldn't inconvenience me in the slightest were he to vanish. But I doubt my luck's so good."
Amber pointedly ignores Giancarlo.  A lot.
Wilson asks, "Hmm, well.  I think we should watch out for Fortunato's safety as well as Meander's tonight.  Anything else people want to share?"
Giancarlo asks (of Niccolo), "Ah ... did you not see him in the, uh, birdcages?"
Venzi says, "Sir Guy, of course"
Venzi says, "but he will be bodyguarded most admirably, I am sure"
Amber says (to Chiara), "I suggest Sir Guy be your escort tonight, that I might better be near both of you."
Giancarlo says, "What is the time?  They should be starting soon."
[vodacce] GM says, "Hard to tell indoors, and with no good pocketwatches. But you guess it's less than a half-hour until the ball."
Niccolo says (to Gian), "I did not have much opportunity to look, unfortunately."
[vodacce] Venzi says, "(Emily"
Giancarlo shrugs
[7thsea] Amber glances at her wrist-sundial.  We'd better be going soon.
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Oh, wow--I was assuming we'd stick our heads out the door, hear, "Meander's been killed!" and realize we'd spent the duration of the ball chatting."
[vodacce] Venzi says, "er, Emily's connection just got messed up, but Chiara nods agreeably to Amber about Dixon"
[vodacce] GM exclaims (at Wilson), "ha!"
Chiara has disconnected.
Chiara has connected.
Wilson exclaims, "Well, let's head out, then.  Lots of information, some of it no doubt helpful, but in the end, if someone points a gun at Meander, all we need to know is--jump on the guy with the gun!"
[Crows-Nest] (from Niccolo) Everyone glances at Amber.
Giancarlo says, "I will be wearing this mask here, by the way."
Niccolo says, "And, I suspect, that suit."
Wilson says, "Chiara and Amber, at least, will not be hard to spot."
Giancarlo says (to Niccolo), "Actually, I was planning on wearing the Imperatrice of Montaigne's second-best ballgown, but I guess this will do as well."
Wilson says (with a hint of relief) "Better, no doubt."
Niccolo asks (of Wilson), "What, you don't think he has the legs for it?"
Giancarlo says, "Oh yes.  If Rosanella does in fact wear a different dress ... I understand that her mask is to be distinctive, specially made for this ball."
Amber says (to Wilson), "This shade of magenta will be quite unobtrusive amongst all the bright flowers that will be there tonight."
Wilson says, "The legs, yes.  The decolletage--no."
Amber says, "I shall hardly stand out at all.  Unless, of course, there is fighting."
Niccolo dones his own plain, muted green mask.
Amber grins, possibly in anticipation.
Wilson smiles.  "Your outfit is distinctive enough to suit you, m'lady."
Giancarlo chuckles and puts on his mask. Silver and red.
Amber says (to Wilson), "Why thank you."
[vodacce] GM asks, "Is everyone set?"
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "I think so."
[vodacce] Giancarlo exclaims, "si, signore!"
[vodacce] Chiara says, "we're all set"
[vodacce] GM says, "Great! Now I just have to sit back and laugh as NOTHING UNTOWARD HAPPENS at the ball all evening."
[vodacce] Chiara says, "(Venzi too, though he is stiring mushrooms)"
[vodacce] Chiara says, "er, stirring"
Amber, not suspecting Wilson of having any tact at all, is pleasantly suprised.  Almost enough to forget Giancarlo's earlier remarks.
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "Yay! So by locking up Danel, we ahve successfully saved Meander and completed our missions."
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "Er, mission."
[vodacce] Wilson exclaims, "XP and drama dice all around!"
GM says, "And now, on to the ball."

Giancarlo nods to the servant
Servant says (to Wilson), "You look like you need a mask, sir."
Wilson exclaims, "You're right!"
Wilson asks, "Whaddya got?"

Venzi collects a simple black mask that just covers the upper half of his face.
Amber says (to Wilson), "I suggest this one."
Servant says (to Wilson), "One moment."
Wilson says, "Oh, nice."
Amber indicates a mask that looks particularly good with Wilson's outfit.
Servant holds up a mask. "This, sir, is meant to represent the Syrneth." It is a slack gray face.
Wilson asks (of Servant), "Can I have the one the lady pointed to?"
[vodacce] (from Venzi) Servant pulls out list marked "PEOPLE I WAS BRIBED TO GIVE MASKS TO", looks for Wilson's name
Wilson says, "Or, uh, that one will work."
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "hee"
Servant says, "No, no, you may have the one you wish."
Wilson says, "Oh, thanks."
Servant hands the other mask to Wilson. It does indeed match -- mostly. (You can only do so much with what you're given.)
Wilson wears his mask happily.
Niccolo says, "Something tells me we're early."
Giancarlo asks (of Servant), "(quietly) by the way, have my other friends arrived?"
Amber looks around the room to see what Rocca has done with it.
Wilson looks around the room for Rocca.
[Crows-Nest] Giancarlo says, "The room is draped with Rocca."
GM says (to Amber), "The decorations are very tasteful, though look as if some of them were put together by someone whose mind was elsewhere."
Chiara murmurs quietly, "He seems to be a better decorator than he is a conspirator."
GM says, "There are a number of people in the room already, though it looks to be far from full."
[Crows-Nest] Wilson says, "'And then they pulled my chest out and they threw it over there, and then they pulled my legs out, and they threw them over there...' 'Oh, it's just you all over.'"
[vodacce] Niccolo asks, "Anyone interesting or recognizable?"
Servant says (to Giancarlo), "I saw Sabatino come through earlier. His mask is square and blue."
Servant says (to Giancarlo), "The other gentlemen you mentioned have yet to arrive."
[vodacce] GM says, "Um, there are masked people."
Giancarlo slips the servant ten senators.
Chiara looks around for Sir Guy.
Wilson says (to the servant, quietly) "If you see Danel, be sure to tell someone--preferably Fortunato.  He's been arrested, and shouldn't be showing up at all tonight."
Servant says (to Giancarlo), "Thank you, sir."
Servant exclaims (at Wilson), "Oh? Oh! I will be sure to do so!"
Giancarlo scans the room for Sabatino
GM says (to Chiara), "There are masked people."
[vodacce] (from Niccolo) Wilson sets the heavy grindstones of the rumor mill in motion.
[vodacce] Chiara says, "surely I would recognize him anywhere.  Ok, maybe not."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "'the vague people'"

[vodacce] GM says, "The doorman did hint that he (and Danel, natch) hadn't arrived yet."

[vodacce] Chiara apparently failed to overhear Servant's remark to Giancarlo.  Oops.
Wilson decides to take up a spot near the entrance to watch people as they come in.
[vodacce] Wilson asks, "I'll try 'unobtrusive'.  Which trait should I use?"
Amber keeps scanning the crowd, and attempting to blend in.
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "Kinda sad to think that Livio won't be here tonight."
Chiara does not bother attempting to "blend in"
GM says (to Giancarlo), "That large man -- the one in the blue mask who's --"
Sabatino exclaims (at Giancarlo), "MY FRIEND!"
Sabatino exclaims (at Giancarlo), "I recognized you even under your mask, a-ha!"
Giancarlo sighs.
[vodacce] GM asks (of Wilson), "You have no unobtrusive?"
Chiara smirks.
Amber chuckles to herself.
[vodacce] Wilson asks, "No, I meant should I use panache or wits or what?"
Giancarlo says (to Sabatino), "Delighted."
[vodacce] GM says, "Let's go with Finesse in this crowded room."

[vodacce] Wilson exclaims, "Ha!"
Sabatino exclaims, "I had hoped you would be here! And your lovely friends have accompanied you!"
Sabatino says, "One of the benefits of being guests of Meander."
Wilson moves quietly, but keeps bumping into people.  "Sorry, sorry...
Sabatino exclaims, "Though I should mourn the loss of revenue for our ins, ha ha!"
Giancarlo . o O ( let me guess, you're the diversion sent by our unknown adversary, to keep us distracted while the evil deed is done. )
Wilson gives up on the quiet life, and mingles, chatting with people.
Giancarlo says (to Sabatino), "Not such a great loss ... you'll be making it up soon once everyone goes home and tells their friends what a good time they had."
Niccolo looks around the room for anything untoward, particularly in the decorations. Along the lines of, oh, things that will fall down and kill someone at inopportune moments.
[vodacce] GM says, "The room continues to fill as people trickle in. A string quartet in the corner is playing pleasant, vague tunes. There is a buffet table."
Giancarlo asks (of Sabatino), "Besides, didn't you say you were expecting a sizeable party from Bessarion soon?"
Amber eyes the buffet table.
Sabatino exclaims, "Oho, you have a point!"
Giancarlo eyes the cheese.
Amber says (to Chiara), "(Amber motions towards the buffet table)"
Sabatino says, "And, yes, the lovely Rosanella has had me busy as three people preparing for her party."
Chiara jealously watches Giancarlo and the cheese, ready to intervene quickly.
Sabatino says (to Chiara), "Yes, do try the food! It's delightful."
Giancarlo asks (of Sabatino), "Tell me about this party from Bessarion.  Holidaymakers?"
Sabatino exclaims, "No, I think they are part of a trade delegation. Quite over my head, I'm sure!"
Giancarlo takes a little mascarpone
Giancarlo says (to Sabatino), "Trade delagation?  What sort of trade, I wonder."
Sabatino says, "You would have to ask Rosanella."
Venzi eats little fishes on sticks
Giancarlo asks (of Sabatino), "If I see her.  Is she around now, do you know?"
Sabatino says, "I thought I saw her earlier, though it is getting hard to find people in this crowd now."
Chiara succumbs to the lure of the cheeses (and coincidentally stands quite near Venzi.)
Giancarlo asks (of Sabatino), "Perhaps I'll be able to spot her.  How will I recognise her?"
Amber takes a little plate, and fills it with interesting morsels, but avoids the cheeses, knowing they will be devoured soon enough.
Sabatino says, "She is wearing an orange half-mask, quite dramatic when contrasted against her dress."
Niccolo slips into the crowd, drifting between the clusters of people.
Giancarlo asks (of Sabatino), "Her dress?"
Sabatino says, "Oh! I think I see -- excuse me, my friend."
Sabatino exclaims, "TEODOR!"
Sabatino wades off into the crowd.
Sabatino says, "I MUST Have a word with youuuu....."
Amber casts Chiara a look of relief.
Wilson turns at the exclamation, watches where Teodor is.
Amber exclaims (at Chiara), "(sote voce) He's gone!"
Giancarlo . o O ( a little loud, but he has his uses. )
Wilson follows.
Lion says (to Chiara), "It is a kindness that that man broadcasts his location wherever he goes."
Giancarlo looks to Teodor.
[vodacce] Wilson asks, "There's a lion here?"
Chiara examines Lion with curiosity.
Chiara asks (of Amber), "(quietly) eh?"
Lion lifts his mask, revealing the features of Sir Guy.
[vodacce] GM asks (of Wilson), "You going over to speak with Teodor?"
Chiara asks (of Lion), "Ah, greetings, my friend.  I take it that you have no great desire to speak with Sabatino?"
Amber says (to Chiara(underherbreath)), "The very loud man is gone."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Yeah, though just to listen to Sabatino's conversation with him, first."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Guess I'll try another unobtrusive."
Giancarlo searches the crowd for a dramatic orange mask.
Sabatino exclaims (at Teodor), "I never had a chance to stop by today. Busy, busy, you know!"

Sabatino asks, "Will the Bishop be holding that meeting you were telling me about in two weeks' time?"
Dixon says, "I'd like to introduce the two of you to a friend of mine from here in town."
Teodor says, "He will."
Chiara says (to Dixon), "Oh? (Looking around room for friend.)"

Sabatino exclaims, "Wonderful!"
Chiara says (to Rambaldi), "Nice to meet you, sir."
Amber says (to Milo), "A pleasure, sir."
GM says, "Rambaldi is wearing not much of a mask at all, just a gear centered on his left eye."

[Crows-Nest] Chiara laughs and laughs
Chiara says (to Rambaldi), "That is an unusual look, I must say."
[vodacce] Giancarlo asks, "23 enough to spot Rosanella?"
[vodacce] GM says, "It is."
[vodacce] GM says, "The fact that you have not spotted her should tell you something. :)"
Venzi follows a few paces behind Wilson, a bit of toasted bread with tomato sauce and cheese in one hand
Dixon says, "He is one of the finest clockmakers in town."
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "hah"
Rambaldi says, "You do me a great honor, Sir Guy."
Chiara says (to Rambaldi), "ah, a very great skill."
Teodor says (to Sabatino), "We will talk to you in a few days and make the final arrangements."
Chiara says, "Perhaps you can make something of the intermeshed gears here..."
Sabatino says, "Most excellent! If you will excuse me, then, I shall mingle."
Dixon says, "And don't let his air of modesty fool you. He's a very sharp thinker."
[Crows-Nest] Chiara says, "so Rambaldi really ought to be able to tell us what is going on here, what with his powers and things"
Wilson slips in behind Sabatino's wake, which is particularly easy to do.
Teodor says, "Of course."
Wilson says, "Teodor!  Good to see you again."
Rambaldi says (to Chiara), "Here at court, you mean? Ah, the motion of those gears are beyond my comprehension."
[Crows-Nest] Giancarlo asks, "Am I the only one clueless here?"
[Crows-Nest] Venzi says, "Emily explains to me he is a character on Alias"
[Crows-Nest] Wilson says, "The TV show 'Alias'."
[Crows-Nest] Wilson says, "(timing)"
[Crows-Nest] Niccolo says, "Nope."
[Crows-Nest] Niccolo says, "(To Gian)"
Teodor says (to Wilson), "Wilson! Glad to see you out and about and most notably not imprisoned."
[Crows-Nest] Venzi says, "which is a tv show that some people here are mildly fond of"
Wilson exclaims, "Indeed!"
Wilson smiles.
[Crows-Nest] Giancarlo says, "Ah."
[Crows-Nest] Giancarlo doesn't watch tv.
Wilson says, "As it turns out, Fortunato is a very reasonable fellow."
[Crows-Nest] Teodor says, "The Alias character is an old Italian clockmaker with crazy strange powers who had a vision of technology that wouldn't exist for some 300 years."
Teodor says, "Goodness. I think you may be the first person to say that."
Dixon lowers his voice. "And his skills are such that he could almost be a scientist."
Wilson says, "He seems to be genuinely concerned with Meander's welfare, which is encouraging."
Rambaldi smiles. "I aspire to little beyond my clocks."
Rambaldi asks, "Are the two of you guests of Meander?"
Wilson lowers his voice.
Venzi glances around for Fortunato
Giancarlo scans the room for possible weak points -- places where traps might be laid.
Chiara says (to Rambaldi), "we are"
Chiara asks, "Were you acquainted with Livio, by any chance?"
[vodacce] Teodor says (to Venzi), "Fortunato is standing near one of the exits onto the lawn, arms crossed."
Rambaldi says, "Yes. I was very sad to hear of his death."
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "....'course, I have Ambush but not Traps...."
Teodor says, "I have heard that Fortunato has another suspect in the cells."
Venzi wanders over to where Fortunato is standing. "Enjoying the party?"
Chiara says (to Rambaldi), "very sad, indeed."
Teodor asks, "Do you know if this suspect is a more reasonable one than you?"
Chiara says, "He seemed to be making great progress with his monograph upon the subject of weathering."
Dixon says, "Not, unfortunately, the most discreet of men."
Wilson says (to Teodor), ""I do wonder, though--the actual culprit is still at large.  I don't suppose you know of those capable of planting that piece of evidence in my chambers who would also have the opportunity at least to put it there."
Rambaldi says, "Ah, his monographs."
Rambaldi smiles gently.
Rambaldi says, "They often brightened up my days."
Chiara says, "I confess I have not had time to read the one he was so kind as to offer me."
Fortunato asks (of Venzi), "That depends. Have you discovered more people falling dead near you by accident?"
Wilson says (to Teodor), "The suspect in question is not known for his scientific pursuits,though there are reasons to suspect him of other of the recent crimes."
Venzi says, "I have not"
Venzi sighs
Venzi says, "it would help narrow the suspect list, I admit"
Fortunato says, "Then I think I am enjoying the party."
Venzi brightens up. "But the party is not yet over!"
Fortunato says, "Sadly true."
Venzi says, "speaking of which, Rocca did a fine job organizing this"
Rambaldi says (to Chiara), "If you have a logical mind, I expect you will find the twistings of his reasoning...fascinating."
Niccolo casually wanders over near Fortunato and Venzi.
Teodor says, "I would stay and talk more, but Bishop Mancari should be here shortly, and I must meet him."
Giancarlo finds a spot where he can see as many people in the room as possible.
Fortunato says, "A good effort, though he seems to have been a trifle rushed near the end."
Chiara says (to Rambaldi), "I suppose... I confess that when I spoke to him he struck me as a bit paranoid, but considering what has happened, I have to give him credit for at least a little understanding."
Fortunato says, "I'm sure he was distracted by his other duties, is all."
Venzi says, "I'm sure"
Rambaldi says, "I would agree that he was paranoid, but not without reason."
Venzi says, "do you know if he is here? I would hate for him to miss out on the chance to observe his creation in motion"
Rambaldi says, "It has not been a good year for people in his profession."
Wilson says (to Teodor), "Uh, OK."
Wilson, on a whim, examines Teodor's hands as he goes.
Chiara asks (of Rambaldi), "Oh?  Others besides Livio...?"
Teodor says, "I will be sure to find you again before the night is over."
Fortunato says, "I was just wondering where he was."
Fortunato says, "I haven't seen him in the last hour or so."
Rambaldi says, "There were others. Many have fled for kinder climes."
Venzi frowns
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Oh, crap."
Venzi asks, "I actually was hoping to speak to him -- I don't suppose you remember where you saw him last?"
Rambaldi shrugs. "I did what I could to help, though I am but a clockmaker."
Dixon says, "'but a clockmaker,' yes."
Dixon grins.
[vodacce] Venzi says, ""stay around people," I said, "and you'll be just fine""
[vodacce] Venzi says, "but I didn't mean, like, people with knives"
[7thsea] Amber exclaims, "hee!"
Fortunato says, "Last I saw he was helping organize in the kitchen."
Chiara asks (of Rambaldi), "Is it the church?  Or someone else?"
Chiara says, "If you know, that is..."
Fortunato says, "I asked that he attend on me after he was done there, but he has not arrived."
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "What a coincidence, neither Rosanella nor Rocca being around."
[vodacce] Teodor says (to Wilson), "#belated his hands are clean and well-groomed"
Venzi says, "ah, thanks"
Rambaldi says, "I cannot speak with authority, but, yes, I believe so."
Venzi heads for the kitchen at a hurried walk
[vodacce] Teodor says (to Giancarlo), "That looks like someone in an orange mask just entering."
[Crows-Nest] Giancarlo picks up some soylent rocca at the buffet.
[vodacce] GM asks, "You taking anyone else?"
[vodacce] GM says, "(to Venzi)"
[vodacce] Venzi says, "not unless Niccolo wants to grab me as I go by"
[vodacce] Giancarlo asks (of GM), "Hm. I observe.  Rosanella?"
Chiara says (to Rambaldi), "I confess I know little of these matters, but it seems to me odd for the church to take to simple assassinations of this sort."
Wilson nods and lets Teodor go.  He sees Venzi going somewhere ina hurry, and follows.
[vodacce] GM says, "Right. We'll just leave Wilson to his own devices, then."
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "I'm available to be grabbed, but am not personally doing the grabbing."
Chiara says, "It would seem more natural for there to be, ah, detailed investigations"
[vodacce] GM says (to Giancarlo), "Looks like, yes."
[vodacce] Venzi says, "c'mon, how much trouble could he get into if I leave him on his -- oh well"
Rambaldi says, "Assassinations, actually, seem to be furthest from what the church does."
Venzi walks by Niccolo, not noticing.
Giancarlo . o O ( Hm.  Rosanella just arriving? How could Sabatino have "seen her earlier" if she's only just now coming in? )
Chiara says (to Rambaldi), "Livio seemed quite dead, quite without the grace of a trial or any official arrangements at all."
Rambaldi says, "They are more interested in making a public scene when they bring in scientists."
Rambaldi says, "handing them over to the Inquisition."
[vodacce] GM says (to Wilson), "Venzi's moving at a good clip. You'd best catch up fast or stay behind."
Wilson walks briskly.
Chiara says, "That is what I would have thought.  And yet someone killed Livio and attacked -- ah, someone else who has a similar disposition"
Rambaldi says, "This leads me to believe some other agency is involved."
Chiara says, "Ah, I misinterpreted your "yes""
Chiara asks, "But who stands to gain from the disappearance of scientists, if not the inquisition?"
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "Okay. I'm going to slip as unobtrusively as possible back outside.  I want to get a second mask."
[interludes] GM says, "And look, the two of you are already on channel."
[vodacce] GM says, "Unobtrusive roll, please."
[interludes] Venzi says, "how convenient"
[interludes] Wilson says, "Excellent."

Rambaldi says, "Ah, you hit upon the crux of the matter."
Rambaldi says, "If only I knew."
[interludes] Venzi asks (of nearby busy servant), "excuse me! excuse me! where's rocca?"
[interludes] Cook exclaims, "You! No in the kitchen! Cooking now!"
[interludes] Cook exclaims, "Shoo!"
Giancarlo slips quietly outside and goes over to the mask table.
[interludes] Venzi exclaims (at Cook), "Rocca! where is he? then I'll leave!"
[interludes] Cook waves a wooden spoon at Venzi and (belatedly) at Wilson.
[interludes] Cook says, "Rocca head for his rooms, say he very busy and had to change."
[interludes] Venzi exclaims, "thank you! byebye!"
[interludes] Venzi turns to leave, sees Wilson
[interludes] Cook exclaims, "NO SOUP FOR YOU!"
[interludes] Venzi says, "[yay!]"
[interludes] Venzi says (to Wilson), "Rocca's missing"
[interludes] Venzi says (to Wilson), "for an hour or so"
[interludes] Wilson says (to Venzi), "Crap."
[interludes] Wilson says, "His room, then, pronto."
[interludes] Venzi starts walking out the door, pulling Wilson along. "Do you want to go fetch people? Or go -- ok then"
Servant says (to Giancarlo), "Ah, one of the gentlemen you were asking about is here."
[interludes] Venzi and Wilson look for a servant to get directions to Rocca's room
Servant says (to Giancarlo), "He is wearing a lion's mask."
Rambaldi says, "But these matters are too dark to be dwelt upon tonight, I believe."
Giancarlo nods and slips the promised 10 senators under the table.
[interludes] Wilson tucks his mask away as they hurry down corridors.
[interludes] Servant notices Venzi's and Wilson's demeanor, asks, "Sirs?"
Dixon says, "True."
[interludes] Venzi asks (of Servant), "We need to speak to Rocca on a manner of some urgency -- can you direct us to his room, please?"
Dixon says, "And I trust Fortunato will get to the bottom of things very soon."
Chiara says (to Dixon), "One hopes, certainly."
Giancarlo says (to Servant), "I may have need of a second mask.  Something easily concealed."
[interludes] Servant says, "Down the hall, down the narrow stairs to the right, third door on the right once you reach the lowest floor."
[interludes] Wilson exclaims, "Thanks!"
Chiara asks, "I wonder-- do you think that Meander is in fact an obstacle to someone who wants to rid the world of scientists?  If he is protecting-- was protecting-- Livio?"
[interludes] Wilson gives the servant something for his information.
Dixon notes a new song beginning. He says (to Chiara), "And if you will oblige me, I shall change our moods with a dance."
[interludes] Venzi says (to Servant), "my thanks"
[interludes] Servant asks, "Thank you for...this spider?"
[interludes] Venzi bows very quickly and heads thataway, switching to a run
[interludes] Wilson exclaims, "Oops!"
[interludes] Wilson says, "Sorry."
Chiara gives her hand to Dixon.  "With pleasure."
Rambaldi says (to Chiara), "Ah, it is certainly a possibility."
[interludes] Wilson trades the spider for a couple coins.
[interludes] Servant exclaims, "Thank you, sir!"
[interludes] Wilson hurries to catch up with Venzi.
Servant asks (of Giancarlo), "Will you need to put it in your pocket, sir?"
Chiara smiles at Rambaldi.  "A great pleasure to meet you."
Giancarlo says (to Servant), "yes."
Chiara allows herself to be led off to the dance.
Rambaldi says (to Chiara), "And I you. Before you go..."
Chiara turns
Dixon says (to Rambaldi), "Surely you will not steal my dance from me, Milo."
Rambaldi says, "No, no! Not at all. I merely wished to give a small gift to your friend."
Chiara raises her eyebrows.
[Crows-Nest] Chiara asks, "is it... a wristwatch?"
Rambaldi reaches into one of the pockets of his vest and pulls out a small ring made of white gold.
[vodacce] Niccolo exclaims, "Be careful of the poison spikes!"
[vodacce] Wilson says, "One of *my* favorite things to do is watch your NPCs interact with each other ;-)"
[vodacce] Niccolo exclaims, "Check the ring for poison spikes!"
Rambaldi says, "I have been experimenting of late with jewelry. I believe it would look most becoming with your dress, if you would have it."
Chiara takes the ring curiously.  "It is very beautiful, sir."
[vodacce] Chiara says, "discreet roll for poisonous ring"
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "it's got to be a bug."

GM says (to Chiara), "It is a plain ring, with the symbol "<0>" traced out along its top in fine yellow gold."
[vodacce] Niccolo says (to Wilson), "Next Vodacce game, he'll have us watch a play. We can all sit in the audience kibbitzing while the actors ignore us and do their thing on stage."
[vodacce] GM says, "and not poisoned."
Chiara asks (of Rambaldi), "what is the significance of the symbol?"
Chiara slips the ring on her finger.
Servant says (to Giancarlo), "I believe this cloth mask will do. Its edges are stiffened with wire, so do be careful when you put it in your pocket."
Giancarlo says, "of course. Thank you."
[interludes] Venzi starts to pound on Rocca's door, reconsiders, switches to a polite but firm knock
[interludes] (from Wilson) Rambaldi says, "It mean 'I 0wn joo!'

[vodacce] Chiara says, "(Venzi and I are sharing a keyboard now and there was nearly a miswindow whereby he went off dancing with Dixon)"
[vodacce] GM laughs.
[interludes] Venzi tries the knob, and kicks it open if it's locked
[vodacce] GM says, "Also, no fair spying on each others' #interludes"
[vodacce] Wilson laughs.
[vodacce] Wilson asks, "Your computer die?"
[interludes] GM says, "It's not locked."
[interludes] Venzi opens it and jumps in, then
Dixon says, "My lady..."
Chiara looks up at Dixon through the slits of the mask
[interludes] Rocca exclaims, "STOP! OR I'LL -- oh!"
[interludes] Rocca lowers the pistol he was pointing (rather shakily) at the door.
[vodacce] Chiara says, "no, but we needed to leave teh phone line free in case my parents needed to call, etc"
[interludes] Wilson says, "Oh, thank goodness."
Dixon asks, "Shall we dance?"
Chiara says, "Certainly."
[interludes] Venzi exclaims, "you damn fool!"
[interludes] Rocca asks, "It's only you. Have you come to rough me up more?"
[interludes] Rocca goes back to throwing clothes in a sack
[interludes] Venzi asks, "what is the meaning of you cowering in your room like this?"
Amber stays near the now-dancing couple, keeping an eye on the crowd, and occasionally nibbling her non-cheesy hors d'oeurves.
GM says (to Giancarlo), "You can see her on the other side of the room."
[interludes] Venzi says, "if you have any sense, you will get yourself to the party and glue yourself like a canal limpet to Fortunato's side"
GM says (to Amber), "There's a roast meat of some kind that is especially tangy."
[vodacce] Giancarlo asks, "Who's she with?"
Chiara asks (of Dixon), "Tell me, how much do you know about Rosanella?"
[interludes] Rocca says, "Feh, Fortunato will slit my throat as soon as he sees me. Within the hour I intend to be far north of here."
[7thsea] Amber says, "as long as it's not long pig, I think I'm okay."
Chiara takes a few delicate steps to the side as required by the dance
Dixon asks, "Rosanella?"
[interludes] Wilson asks, "Why?  Did you do something else wrong?"
Dixon steps, steps again.
Dixon says, "She has been most helpful to me."
[interludes] Rocca says, "No, I think what I have done has been sufficient for any three people."
[interludes] Venzi frowns
[interludes] Venzi asks, "just the swords?"
[interludes] Rocca stuffs more clothes in the sack, then looks at his room longingly.
[interludes] Rocca says (to Venzi), "Yes."
Dixon says, "I had quite the mishap in coming here."
[interludes] Wilson asks, "What was your business with Rosanella?"
[interludes] Venzi asks, "don't you realize Fortunato doesn't give a tinker's damn about the swords?"
Dixon says, "My entire caravan was attacked by brigands, and everyone but me killed. I was left for dead."
[interludes] Venzi says, "what he wants is the person or persons *really* responsible"
[interludes] Rocca asks (of Wilson), "What?"
Chiara looks shocked.  "How horrible!"
Chiara asks, "And this was in Bessarion?"
Dixon says, "A few miles from it."
Chiara asks, "Then she found you there?"
Dixon says, "One of our horses fled at the attack, then returned some time later."
[interludes] Venzi says, "but whether or not Fortunato cares, there are plenty of other people who *do* want to see you dead"
Dixon says, "I managed to drag myself onto it, and it carried me towards the city."
[interludes] Venzi says, "stabbed through the heart like Livio, perhaps"
[interludes] Rocca exclaims (at Venzi), "But he -- he can't ignore what I did!"

Chiara allows herself to be twirled.

Chiara says, "But considering the present situation, I admit I'm forced to wonder."
Dixon asks, "Oh?"
Chiara asks, "Well... if she has replaced all of your servants, and now one of your servants is caught in some strange mischief...?"
Dixon dips Chiara, then resumes the steps fo the dance.
Chiara asks, "Do you know whether her negotiations with Meander have been satisfactory, or whether she might have any reason to desire a change of government?"
Chiara manages not to drop her mask or even let her hair be mussed
Dixon says, "I..."
[interludes] Venzi says, "I have not spoken to Danel, no"
Dixon says, "Hm. I had the impression that she was getting favorable trade agreements from Meander, actually."
[interludes] Venzi asks, "but if is determined to kill you, do you really think he will not be able to track you down?"
[interludes] Venzi says, "your only hope is for the -- conspiracy to be broken"
Dixon says, "And was bringing a delegation here in a few days to finalize some deals."
[interludes] Venzi says, "then your enemies will be powerless"

[interludes] Venzi says, "I admit I have not detected any malice in him, but then I have only been here these few days"
GM says (to Giancarlo), "She's talking to Sabatino right now."
[interludes] Wilson asks (of Rocca), "Whatever you decide to do yourself is, in the end, your concern.  We promised to help, that's our advice.  But.  You were on some errand for Rosanella.  What was it?"
Dixon says, "You paint a disturbing picture."
Chiara asks, "What do you know of the delegation, for that matter?"
Dixon says, "Only that plans for it have been ongoing for a while, now."
Chiara says (to Dixon), "It is only a guess-- but in Vodacce one takes turns suspecting all one's dearest friends."
[interludes] Rocca asks (of Wilson), "Errand? When?"
Chiara examines the ring thoughtfully.
[interludes] Wilson says (irritatedly) "At the bazaar.  The other day."
Giancarlo says (to GM), "(Can I tell what she's saying?)"
[interludes] Rocca says, "Oh, the other day? She'd sent me a note asking if I'd check on some people who could supply food for her delegation."
Chiara says, "(speaking of which, I am curious why Rambaldi was so generous on so brief an acquaintance...)"
[interludes] Venzi asks, "oh?"
[interludes2] GM says, "(Sorry, pause for a second.)"
[interludes] Venzi asks, "which people?"
[vodacce] GM says (to Chiara), "that said outloud, or murmured to yourself"

Chiara says (to Dixon), "but in any case... it seems possible to me at least that Rosanella intends to gain some advantage here, even if she does not actually want Meander dead."
GM says, "(good thing Sabatino's voice carries)"
[vodacce] Venzi says, "bug, no. arachnid, yes"
Dixon says, "I would be suspicious if she did *not* angle for advantage given the current unrest."
Dixon slows as the song comes to an end, and bows to Chiara.
[interludes] Venzi asks, "which people were you talking to about the food arrangements?"
[interludes] Rocca says (to Wilson), "They are arriving next week."
[interludes] Venzi asks, "and why did the food need to be arranged specially for them?"
Chiara curtsies
Dixon says, "Now I have many things to mull over."

Chiara asks, "Even though I keep fretting you with ever more elaborate theories of conspiracy and impending doom?"
[interludes] Rocca says (to Venzi), "some of the people in the bazaar."
[interludes] Rocca says, "And I think Rosanella wanted to hold a feast for them when they arrived."

Dixon leads Chiara back to the buffet table.
[interludes] Venzi asks, "do you happen to recall who the wine-seller you talked to was?"
[interludes] Wilson asks (of Rocca), "Did you handle the arrangements yourself, or merely connect Rosanella with the vendors?"
[interludes] Rocca says, "I didn't. I was only told to ask about food."
[interludes] Rocca says (to Wilson), "the latter"
Chiara begins filling a plate.  "I assume you've had a chance to acquaint yourself with all the Vodacce cheeses."
[interludes] Rocca says, "And then when Danel heard I was going to the bazaar he told me to make sure the sword sellers wouldn't talk."
Dixon says, "Yes. And do try this meat -- it is one of the more palatable Avalonian specialties. I helped procure it myself."
Chiara nods appreciatively and helps herself to some.
Sabatino exclaims, "Ah, of course!"
[vodacce] Giancarlo asks, "Haggis?"
Chiara glances around the room to see if she can determine where Amber is.
[interludes] Rocca says, "...if you think it best, I'll return with you to Fortunato."
[interludes] Venzi says, "I do."
[interludes] Venzi says, "and I suggest you stay by him as long as you can"
Rosanella says, "If there is any way I can help you in return, do let me know."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Amber is falling asleep ;-)"
Sabatino exclaims, "Ah, ah, the commerce is thanks enough!"
[interludes] Rocca sighs. "Let's go, then."
Amber asks (of Dixon), "What kind of meat is it?"
[vodacce] Chiara asks, "what good is a snoozing bodyguard?"
Chiara says (to Amber), "Ah, there you are."
Giancarlo approaches from behind Sabatino and claps his hand on the fellow's shoulder.  Hard and suddenly.
[7thsea] Amber says, "sorry, I was asleep on the floor."
Chiara glances at her new ring again thoughtfully.
Dixon says (to Amber), "Beef that has been specially prepared."
[vodacce] Giancarlo asks, "Corned beef?"
Amber asks (of Dixon), "A special sauce?"
[Crows-Nest] (from Chiara) Dixon says, "From insane cows."
[interludes] Venzi says, "good, good"
Dixon says (to Amber), "and slowly smoked beforehand as well."
[interludes] Venzi escorts Rocca (and presumably Wilson) back to the party.
Dixon says, "Even the guards have enjoyed it."
[interludes] Venzi nudges Rocca in the ribs. "And try and enjoy yourself!"
[vodacce] Wilson nods, and troops down with everyone else back to the Grand Hall.

[interludes] Wilson says, "Also, on channel."
Rosanella asks, "I was going to find Sir Guy for a dance; have you seen him?"
Chiara tastes the meat.  "Delicious."
Giancarlo says, "Good evening ....."
Venzi eats little fruits on sticks.
Sabatino exclaims, "Ah! Ah! You keep turning up!"
Giancarlo says, "Like a bad penny."
Rosanella exclaims (at Giancarlo), "You are here. Good!"
Rosanella says, "I shall have to delay that dance with Sir Guy, then."
Giancarlo says (to Rosanella), "It is nice to know I take precedence."
Giancarlo says (to Sabatino), "Excuse me, signore, while I steal your date."
Venzi wanders back over to Fortunato.
Sabatino exclaims, "Of course! Of course!"
Sabatino wanders off, greeting people as he goes.
Venzi says (to Fortunato), "you will doubtlessly be surprised to hear that I have been away for a bit and yet everyone continues alive and well"
[interludes2] GM says, "(Sorry. Okay, back again. Where were we?)"
Fortunato says, "In fact, I see you have brought Rocca with you."
Rocca says, "G-g-g-good evening, Fortunato."
Giancarlo says (to Rosanella), "(bowing) signorina."
Venzi says, "he turned out not to have passed beyond the veil at all, but merely beneath the bedcovers"
Giancarlo offers his hand.
Venzi says, "in short (though I hate to admit it on his behalf) he had dozed off in his room"
Rosanella takes it. "I trust your dance will be as polished as your outfit."
Wilson says, "It's been a long day."
[Crows-Nest] Chiara says, "I'm sure that's some sort of veiled Vodacce insult"
Rocca exclaims, "Oh! Yes! Very tired, ha ha! From the decorations and the preparations!"
Fortunato says, "I am sure. I was going to request that you stay with me this evening, as I may have need of your recommendations."
Giancarlo says, "I promise it will be more so, as my outfit isn't polished above my bootstraps."
[interludes2] GM says, "Right. So you've heard Abrielle and Ludo."
Giancarlo leads Rosanella onto the dancefloor.

Giancarlo asks, "And you?"

Chiara nibbles triangular fruit pieces and keeps an eye on Giancarlo and Rosanella from a distance

Wilson mingles, looking for Abrielle.

Rosanella says, "I am very pleased. Despite recent turmoil, I believe that by next week Meander and I will have worked out the trading arrangements I have been working on."

[interludes] Abrielle asks, "Have you tried that strange Avalonian meat at the buffet table?"
[interludes] Ludo says, "Not yet. You know how eating this late bothers me."
[interludes] Abrielle says, "Pity. It's quite good."
Rosanella says, "Though I should not talk so about work."
[Crows-Nest] (from Chiara) inky exclaims, "I have it.  Sargent is somehow behind ALL of this."
[Crows-Nest] GM laughs.
Giancarlo says, "Indeed?  My felicitations.  But please ... don't worry on my account."
Rosanella says, "Given your appointed tasks, I expect you are used to listening to people."
Venzi carefully selects a breadstick, breaks it in half, and eats each half
Rosanella dances with Giancarlo under one of the canopies held aloft by poles.
Venzi eats a canape on a little stick
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "...."
Chiara thinks about pulling out one of the poles of the canopy, but behaves herself.
[interludes] Abrielle asks, "I've been looking for Stefani; wasn't he supposed to be here?"
Giancarlo says, "I am hardly a father-confessor type, but I suppose I will have to do."
[interludes] Ludo snorts. "He's been so tied up in that dreadful wine business lately, I wouldn't be surprised if he is asleep right now."
Chiara says (to Dixon), "I am intrigued to observe our friend over there dancing with Rosanella."
Rosanella says, "I do not think I ever heard what brought you to this city."
Dixon says, "Oh? I hear he has made quite an impression on a number of people."
Wilson ends up in a fascinating conversation about Eisen customs with a young debutante, but still no sign of Abrielle.
Amber helps herself to a demi-tasse of espresso.
Chiara says (to Dixon), "Over the course of our acquaintance he has proven his manners, especially as regard women, to be a bit, er, eccentric."

Chiara says, "I only hope that she does not end the dance by kicking him in the shin.  But I suppose ambassadorial training will prevent her from doing so, however tempted."

[interludes] Niccolo says, "(Is this conversation happening now, or did it happen earlier while other stuff was happening?)"
[interludes] Abrielle says, "Pity. I would have enjoyed seeing him try to keep up with Carinna on the dance floor."
Wilson moves to the other side of the room, trying to be unobtrusive.
[vodacce] Wilson asks, "Finesse, still?"

Chiara says, "Aha."
Rosanella says, "Ah, I'm sure my trade agreements are far from earth-shattering, except perhaps to those directly involved."
[interludes] Wilson says, "Venzi and I found Rocca hiding in his room, about to pack up and take off.  We convinced him to stay, and to stay close to Fortunato."

GM says, "Meander enters, wearing a white mask, and accompanied by a veiled Ludovica."

Giancarlo applauds. then looks back suspiciously at the canopy they just danced under.

Giancarlo asks (of Rosanella), "...do you know what music they'll be dancing to for their first dance?"
[interludes] Ludo says, "I was wondering when he would arrive."
[interludes] Abrielle says, "Fashionably late, of course."
Rosanella says (to Giancarlo), "I? I've no idea."
Giancarlo says (to Rosanella), "Yes ... they are quite lovely ... uh, excuse me."
Giancarlo makes his way to the musicians.
GM says, "The quartet strikes up a spirited song. Meander takes Ludovica's hand and the two move onto the floor. Couples make way for them."
Rosanella says, "I--well."
Venzi watches Giancarlo abandon Rosenalla, raises an eyebrow.
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "Yet another NPC offended.  <sigh>.  But this had to be done."
[interludes] Abrielle asks (of Ludo), "Are you sure you wouldn't care to dance right now?"
[interludes] Ludo snorts. "And compete with Meander? No, thank you."
Chiara nods at Giancarlo, remarking to Dixon, "You see his idea of dancing with a lady.

[vodacce] Chiara says, "ah, yes, the ever-so-deadly ... curtains of doom"
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "I got suspicious when the dance led me right under them."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "It's curtains for you."
[vodacce] Amber says, "Its about to be curtains for me."
[vodacce] GM asks, "Okay. How are you going to do this?"

[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "I know it's going to be a tough roll.  But I'm going to try to apply my knowledge of popular dance music and make quick suggestions to alter the way the dance moves."

[vodacce] GM says, "TN 25 to end a song early (assuming you don't go and, I dunno, pull all the strings and break them)"
[vodacce] Venzi says, "jump in front of the tympani"
[interludes2] Carinna asks, "But why can't we...?"
[vodacce] (from Niccolo) Giancarlo shouts, "Bow to your partner, dos-i-do! Take her and and away you go... far from the curtains, across the hall. Listen to me, or you'll take a fall!"

[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "Right. Speed a little so they get to the turn and move off in a different direction before they reach anything potentially dangerous."

[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "gimme that baton."
[interludes2] Sabatino says, "Discretion, Carinna. You may not be able to avoid marrying him."
[interludes] Wilson moves over to Abrielle and Ludo.
Giancarlo glances at chandelier.
[interludes2] Carinna asks, "You're powerful! What do you have to fear?"
[interludes2] Venzi leans casually against the wall, fidgeting with his handkerchief
[interludes] Wilson asks (of the_couple), "You're not going to dance?"
[vodacce] Chiara says, "aw, c'mon, they aren't going to do the chandelier thing again"

Giancarlo glances at the punchbowl.
[interludes] Ludo says, "Eh? No, that's no game for me."
Giancarlo glances at the window.
[vodacce] Venzi says, "(man, this 'Chiara' npc is hard to keep track of)"
[interludes] Abrielle says, "A pity, but no."
[interludes2] Sabatino laughs, still softly. "I am too cautious to align myself against him openly."
[interludes2] Sabatino says, "And I would not see you come to harm."
[interludes] Wilson asks (of Abrielle), "Well, would you care to dance with me?"
[interludes2] Carinna asks, "What could he do to me?"
[interludes] Wilson says (to Ludo), "If you don't mind."
[interludes] Ludo says, "If you wish. Should be interesting to watch, I think."
[interludes] Wilson says, "The best view is from the floor."
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "basically trying to spot sources of danger."

GM says, "In the course of the song, the time comes 'round for Meander and Ludovica to move near the canopy again."
[interludes] Abrielle asks (of Wilson), "Shall we, then?"
[interludes2] Sabatino says, "Even you, with your powerful family, are not immune to danger."
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "speed up again. And a raise."
Wilson escorts Abrielle to the dance floor, and the two of them join the dance.
[vodacce] GM asks (of Wilson), "You don't have dancing, do you?"
[interludes] Wilson says, "No, I do."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "I do."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "With 'Courtier'."
[vodacce] GM says, "Oh, good. TN 20 to keep up smoothly with the Dance of the Giancarlo"

GM says, "The dance shifts somewhat, and the couples dancing move into a tighter and more intricate pattern near the middle."
Abrielle says (to Wilson), "You are more sure-footed than I might have guessed."
[interludes2] Carinna exclaims, "But--!"
[interludes2] Sabatino says, "No, do not protest."
[interludes2] Sabatino says, "I will not endanger you any more than I have already."
Wilson says (to Abrielle), "A curious dance, but I'm getting the hang of it."
[interludes2] Carinna falls into Sabatino's arms, snuffling as quietly as she can.
Abrielle says, "I do not believe I have heard this song before. It's a very interesting variation."
Wilson says (to Abrielle), "You dance splendidly yourself, but I had guessed as much a while back."
Giancarlo . o O ( when this is over maybe I'll have this quadrille named after me. )
Abrielle smiles. "Such skills come in handy."
[interludes2] Sabatino holds Carinna gently. "Do not cry, little one, do not cry."
[interludes2] Venzi frowns slightly, and takes a step or two back towards the door.
Wilson says, "No doubt."
[interludes2] GM says (to Venzi), "As you do, you can hear some very interesting songs being played."
Dixon says, "This is an interesting dance."
[interludes2] Venzi . o O ( I recognize the melody, I think, but the tempo-- )
Chiara says, "Impossible to dance to, I'd say"
GM says, "The dancers whirl, then whirl again, as the tempo picks up near the end of the song."
[vodacce] Giancarlo asks, "should I be worried?"
GM says, "And then it ends, and the exhausted dancers exchange bows and curtsies."
Giancarlo breathes.
Niccolo moves toward the band, curious what's going on with the music.
Meander exclaims, "Marvelous!"
Wilson . o O ( whew! )
Diamond_Mask comes up to Dixon and touches his arm.
[Crows-Nest] (from Chiara) Then Meander strolls towards the buffet table... under the canopy, which collapses on his head.
Dixon says, "Oh, pardon me for a second."
Giancarlo puts down the baton (which incidentally, is Montaignais for "stave") and congratulates the musicians.
Chiara looks over Diamond-Mask curiously.
Dixon says, "I will return shortly."
Niccolo says (to Gian), "That was... interesting."
Dixon walks off with the man in the diamond mask.
Chiara moves very very quietly in the same direction as Dixon.
Giancarlo says (to Niccolo), "I think I'll call it "The Flight of the Canopy"."
Meander says, "The dancing begins again, albeit much more slowly, and with Meander to one side of the room."
Niccolo raises an eyebrow.
Abrielle says (to Wilson), "You handled that quite well."
[interludes2] Venzi looks to see if Sabatino and Carinna are still talking, and if not, moves back into the ballroom
Abrielle says, "I've no idea what the musicians were trying to do, unless they wished to see if they could cause us to end up in a pile in the middle of the room."
Wilson says (to Abrielle), "Well, thank you."
[interludes2] Meander says, "Their conversation looks to be ending."
Giancarlo tenses again, and scans Meander's vicinity for possible dangers.
Chiara keeps an eye on where Dixon is going with the man.

Niccolo looks at the canopy, wondering what about it appeared hostile.
Giancarlo says (to Niccolo), "It is probably nothing.  I see danger everywhere."
Wilson says (to Abrielle), "The dance over these last few days has seemed equally confusing to me, I must admit."
Chiara looks around for whomever is nearest to her of our own party
Meander says (to Chiara), "That would probably be Niccolo and Giancarlo."
Chiara mutters (to herself), "Damn."
Abrielle says (to Wilson), "The steps are hard for those not born and bred to the court."
Wilson says (to Abrielle), "And that would be me."
Chiara moves quickly towards Niccolo and catches his arm.
Venzi coughs.
[Crows-Nest] Giancarlo says, "Heh. Oh come off it, you know we can be trusted.  Trust us."
Niccolo join Chiara. "Yes?"
Wilson says (to Abrielle), "But as contrast, your own abilities in the area appear to be legendary."
