Giancarlo dreams strange dreams in which his prince is speaking with a mouth full of cotton.
Giancarlo yawns, blinks, sits up.
Chiara blinks awake and thinks thoughts about hot chocolate served to one in bed.
Venzi wakes and glances out the window before dressing.
[vodacce] Niccolo asks, "Do we have windows?"
[vodacce] Chiara says, "no, it's MacOS X only"
[vodacce] GM says, "Depends on which side of the hall you're on."
[vodacce] Venzi says, "c'mon, it's a manor"
[vodacce] GM says, "First two people -- one, I suppose, since Venzi already spoke up -- to call it get windows."
Wilson says (to Venzi, as he returns to the room) "Good morning!"
Amber dresses quickly, and goes to see if Chiara needs anything.
Venzi says, "up early, I see"
[vodacce] Chiara exclaims, "I want one!"
[vodacce] GM says, "There we go, then."
[vodacce] GM says, "heh heh heh"
[vodacce] Amber brings Chiara a window.
Chiara has Amber help with the back hooks of a particularly ornate gown.
[vodacce] InnocentBystander fires up WindowMaker.
Wilson says (to Venzi), "Yup.  Productive, too.  But now I'm starved.  Let's see where they eat around here."
GM says, "As you exit your rooms, you find Ridolfo waiting for you."
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander mistypes and fires up Widowmaker instead. Oops.
Niccolo dresses quickly. He doesn't own anything complicated to put on.
Venzi says (to Ridolfo), "good morning"

Ridolfo says, "Oh! Awake, I see."
Ridolfo stands up from where he had been crouched.
Ridolfo says, "Just, ah, restin'."
Niccolo gathers anything he thinks he might need that day, before going out to the corridor.
Ridolfo glances to see if the others are coming.
Ridolfo says, "Hope you had a good evening."
Giancarlo dresses himself and slips out onto the corridor.
Wilson says (to Ridolfo), "Hey there!  Can we get something to eat?  I'm starved."
Venzi glances at Chiara and Amber's door, still closed.
Venzi sighs.
[vodacce] InnocentBystander says (to Venzi), "try the window"
Chiara comes out of her room a bit later, but it's worth it.
Ridolfo notes Venzi's glance. "Women. Takes them all day to get going."
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "Leave that to Giancarlo..."
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "hah"
Chiara emerges just in time to hear Ridolfo and raise her eyebrow meaningfully in his direction.
Amber hides a grin at Ridolfo's remark.
Ridolfo says (to Wilson), "We'll take care of that hunger soon enough."
Ridolfo says, "And now we are all ready, I see."
Wilson says, "Oh, good.  Last night's dinner was delicious."
Ridolfo leads everyone down the stairs near their rooms and through a sitting room.
Wilson says, "Er, apart from the unfortunate end."
Giancarlo says (to Wilson), "(shrug) These things happen."
Wilson says, "Er, the guy dying end, not seeing the Contessa end."
Ridolfo says, "Before we grab a spot to eat and I send you on your way, I want to introduce you to Meander right proper."
Amber says, "I found the dessert quite tasty."
Wilson says, "That bit was neat."
Giancarlo says, "(not usually at a Falisci party, si, but these things happen....)"
Venzi asks (of Ridolfo), "that seems like a good idea -- is he awake yet?"
Ridolfo continues to march everyone along and out of the manor, then into the street.
Chiara . o O ( "neat"? must be some foreign term... )
Ridolfo says (to Venzi), "Oh, he's an early riser, he is."
Giancarlo says (to Ridolfo), "Si. We should extend our ... gratitude to our host."
Amber says (to Wilson), "I'll have to remember that bit about dusty spiderwebs.  Useful bit to know."
Wilson smiles, inordinately pleased.
Ridolfo says, "Every morning, rain or shine, he's up and taking a swim in one of the canals."
Wilson asks, "How many canals are there?"
Wilson says, "Er, that he frequents."
Giancarlo asks (of Ridolfo), "I assume he has his bodyguards watching, si?"
Ridolfo says, "Normally I'd wait until he was done, but Meander is bound to be busy today."
Amber . o O ( Not very safe, bodyguards or not. )
Ridolfo says (to Wilson), "The one closest to the manor."
Ridolfo says (to Giancarlo), "Do you think us savages, to let him swim alone? Of course not."
Giancarlo says (to Ridolfo), "No slight intended, signor."
GM says, "And true to his word, Ridolfo has led you around a corner to a street running parallel to a canal."
Giancarlo looks up at either end of the canal, thinking about security.
GM says, "You see Meander standing by the edge where the street meets the canal. He is stretching."
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander says, "in which float the corpses of Meander AND his bodyguards"
GM says, "There are three men with him."
Venzi sizes up the men.
Ridolfo says, "Ah, here he is."
Ridolfo says, "He doesn't swim long. Ten minutes or so and then I can introduce you."
Wilson nods and waits.
Wilson's attention wanders to a swarm of midgies hovering above the canal.
GM says, "Meander is now doing deep knee bends with an enthusiasm which, espeically for an older man such as himself, is surprising."
[vodacce] Niccolo asks, "Are the street and canal running between de Falisci buildings or other buildings?"
[vodacce] GM says, "Imagine standing at the front of the manor, on the street which runs parallel to its facade. You went left, then turned. On the other side of the canal you can see some of the lawns which lead up to the side of the manor."
Wilson . o O ( Hmm, wonder what the air currents through here are like. )
Amber notes possible exits, hidey-holes and their lines of fire.
GM says, "You recognize Fortunato as one of the men with Meander. He is having an animated conversation with Meander."
GM says, "Semi-conversation, really: Fortunato is doing all of the talking. Meander is smiling and still doing deep knee bends."
Niccolo guesses at where this canal would link up with the rest of the city's waterways.
Venzi attempts to catch a word or two of the conversation.
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander says, "man, I can't hear "Fortunato" without thinking Poe"
[vodacce] GM says (to Venzi), "Roll for it, please."
Giancarlo casually kneels and scoops up some water to wash his hands.

Wilson imagines how the various open windows on either side of the street would effect the air flow, and whether the houses thus open would be pestered by gnats.
Giancarlo falls into the canal.
Wilson blinks.
Wilson exclaims, "Gian!"
GM says (to Venzi), "You hear snatches of conversation carried on the wind. "...not safe...told you he'd...Contessa sent word...""
Giancarlo says, "Eeagh"
Wilson plunges his hand into the water to rescue him.
Amber puts out a hand to pull Gian up.
Chiara stands back to keep her gown from being ruined by wet.
Wilson says (to Amber), "I got it, I got it."
Amber shrugs and moves out of Wilson's way.
Venzi steps forward a bit closer to Meander as he attempts to help pull out Giancarlo.
Giancarlo pulls Amber into the water. And points out the swords to Wilson.
GM says, "Meander stands and breathes deep. He waves Fortunato back and prepares to dive into the canal."
Wilson blinks.
Wilson exclaims (at Meander), "Sir!"
[Crows-Nest] Giancarlo says, "so much for distracting our governor."
Venzi says, "this is ridiculous"

Niccolo says, "Perhaps we are all to join the signoir in his morning swim."
GM says (to Wilson), "He's too far away to hear you, though two of his men do."

GM says (to Wilson), "The men begin to walk towards you."
Ridolfo says, "This is getting ridiculous."
[Crows-Nest] Wilson asks, "I meant to only have my hand in the water--can I run?"
Amber scrambles out of the water as fast as she is able.
[vodacce] InnocentBystander asks, "'swords'?"
[Crows-Nest] Wilson says, "ILAC."

[vodacce] GM asks, "Do you have sprinting?"
Niccolo shrugs at the others, takes off his shoes, and sits on the bank with his feet in the water.
Wilson runs towards the men, waving his arms.

[vodacce] Wilson says, "Yup."
[vodacce] GM says (to Amber), "Give me a finesse roll."
Giancarlo hauls himself out, gasping,"Stop him from diving."
[vodacce] GM says (to Wilson), "And you a sprint."
Wilson exclaims, "Stop him!  Don't let him dive in!"
Ridolfo asks (of Giancarlo), "What?"

Venzi swims along towards where Meander is going to dive in, waving his hands.
Wilson exclaims, "Swords!  In the water!"
Wilson points.
Ridolfo asks, "Swords?"
Ridolfo exclaims, "But I was going to introduce all of you!"

Giancarlo grabs a knife and throws it down the canal in Meander's direction. In front of Meander, not aiming to hit him. Just to stop him diving.
GM says, "Venzi cuts through the water. Fortunato is the first to espy him, and grabs Meander's arm."
Chiara mutters, "Swords in the water? Why not a good contact poison, diluted in the water but still strong enough... well."
npc2 has connected.
Venzi pulls himself towards the bank. "I rather fancy your dive would have been interrupted rudely, my lord."
Meander asks, "What in the world...?"
Fortunato pulls his sword on Venzi. "Explain yourself, and do so quickly."
Venzi says, "I can't say I approve of this new trend in canal-bottom decoration, but no doubt it has its adherents"
Wilson exclaims (at Fortunato), "It's OK!  He's my bodyguard!"
[vodacce] Venzi says (to Wilson), "hee hee"
Venzi points out the swords, set into the bottom of the canal
Chiara is strolling down towards where all the fuss is.
Fortunato kneels down and peers into the water.
Giancarlo sits on the edge of the canal, sopping wet. Well, at least the governor's safe ... for now. And he's not the one doing the explaining.
GM says, "The two men drag Wilson along as well, with Ridolfo following behind and looking very unhappy."
Fortunato says (to Meander), "Swords, my lord. Cunningly arranged as if they were a fence."
Fortunato says (to Meander), "Had you dived, you would have been skewered."
[vodacce] (from InnocentBystander) Fortunato exclaims, "For the love of God, Meander!"
Meander exclaims, "What!"
Giancarlo asks (of Chiara), "Buon giorno, signorina. How do you like a little excitement before breakfast?"
Venzi climbs out of the water, dripping wet and not entirely dignified
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "hah"
Amber assists Venzi out of the water.
Meander glares at the two men holding Wilson. "You were to have examined the canal this morning!"
Chiara raises an eyebrow at Giancarlo.  "It depends on the nature of the excitement."
GM says, "The two men look very abashed."
Fortunato says, "They will not be in your employ come tonight."
GM says, "The two men look very very abashed."
Giancarlo gestures further down to where Venzi & Wilson are doing the explaining.
Wilson stands smartly and bows.
Ridolfo says, "Oh, clever! With the sun on the water, you can't see the swords from here unless you're looking carefully."
Niccolo dries his feet and redons his shoes.
Amber, though dressed for practicality, is anoyed her clothes are wet.
Venzi resumes his position a pace or two behind Wilson, leaving his sword and cloak behind for the moment.
Meander asks (of Venzi), "Then I have you to thank, sir...?"
Venzi pauses in his step.
Venzi says, "Venzi. Venzi dal Vento."
Wilson says, "Good sir, Ridolfo was bringing us here to introduce us, but we seem to be already introduced.  I am Wilson Mayhew."
Niccolo shuffles over to Ridolfo, et al.
Meander says, "dal Vento, eh? You certainly came to my aid speedily enough."
Venzi says, "of the wind or of the waters, sir."
Fortunato steps warily in front of Meander. "Careful, sir."
Ridolfo says (to Fortunato), "Don't worry. These are the ones the Contessa mentioned."
Wilson says (to Venzi), "Indeed, that was some excellent swimming, chap."
Meander's eyes widen.
Meander says, "I see."
Venzi grins at Fortunato, and steps back behind Wilson.
Giancarlo says (to Chiara), "It seems our companions have foiled an assassination plot. Already.emote strolls along, staying in the shadows toward the back of the crowd."
[Crows-Nest] Wilson asks, "You type out 'emote'?"
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander says, "what I was about to ask"
[Crows-Nest] Giancarlo says, "I seem to be lagging a little."
Chiara says (to Giancarlo), "Indeed.  I hoped that was what you were referring to."
Ridolfo says, "Let me introduce Chiara Venterrini, Amber, Niccolo, and Giancarlo Bernini."
[Crows-Nest] Niccolo says, "Yeah, it's a lot shorter to do 'pose' isntead."
Chiara courtsies prettily.
Meander says, "A pleasure, though I wish we had met under more pleasant circumstances."
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander says, "or, like, :"
Niccolo bows slightly.
[Crows-Nest] Giancarlo says, "weird. First sentence should have been fired off minutes before."
[Crows-Nest] Wilson laughs.
Amber bows.
Meander says, "I am, as I imagine you know, Meander Verde de Falisci. This is Fortunato de Verde, captain of my guard."
Giancarlo bows curtly.
Fortunato nods.
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander says (to gian), "you need to hit that large key with the arrow with a 90 degree angle in it"
[Crows-Nest] Giancarlo says, "I did."
Wilson bows again.
Meander asks (of Giancarlo), "I had word of your arrival. Do you have your letter?"
Giancarlo says (to Meander), "Si, signor. Though I fear it might be a little water-logged from this morning's adventure."
Meander takes it and reads it carefully before handing it back. "Very well. I would offer you the support of my house, but it appears you have it already."
Fortunato says, "Sir."
Giancarlo withdraws the letter from its hiding place. Hopefully the layers of clothing will have kept the worse of the water damage off.
Meander says, "Yes, I know. Business beckons."
Meander says, "My thanks to you all."
[Crows-Nest] Wilson says, "Can I do an Etiquette roll to figure out what's going on?  With a penalty because I'm a foreigner, of course."
Giancarlo says (to Meander), "And we thank you in return."
[Crows-Nest] Wilson says, "(with Gian)"
Meander says (to two men), "And you two can stay here and guard those damned swords until I send some real guardsmen to relieve you."
[Crows-Nest] Ridolfo says, "Sure."

[vodacce] Wilson says, "I rolled it as one."
Giancarlo sympathises with the poor saps. But not hugely ... nothing like this would have happened if any of his line were on duty.
[vodacce] Chiara says, "aha"
[vodacce] GM says (to Wilson), "Clearly Giancarlo has been given a letter of introduction, and one which asks for Meander's help in whatever he's been doing."
[vodacce] GM says (to Chiara), "I would think in this case it is."
[vodacce] Chiara says (to GM), "not complaining, just wondering"
Meander thanks you again and walks away, Fortunato following.
Guard_2 mutters (to Guard 1), "You were supposed to check the water."
Guard_1 exclaims, "Me! It was your turn!"
Giancarlo shakes his head like a dog drying itself.
Ridolfo says, "Well."
Ridolfo says, "I didn't expect that."
Wilson crouches by the water's edge and peers at the swords.
Guard_2 says, "No, no, last Tuesday was my turn."
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander says, "NOBODY EXPECTS..."
Amber says (to Ridolfo), "Apparently no one did."
Ridolfo asks (of Wilson), "See anything interesting?"
Venzi asks (of Guard_1), "out of curiosity, how is the job assigned? is there a task list?"
Giancarlo says (to Guards), "A word of advice from someone who's been there before? You BOTH check the water in case the other man has been bought by the enemy."
Guard_1 growls, "If you could keep your mind on your job instead of that wench you were with last night..."
Wilson says (to Ridolfo), "I'm trying to figure out how they were placed there; what kind of expertise would be needed to do it."
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander says, "It seems to be a Storm of Swords (ha ha ha)"
Guard_2 asks (of Giancarlo), "ANd who are you?"
Amber says (to Ridolfo), "Does Meander have many enemies?  This was a coward's attack, but a well-organized coward, unfortunately."
Guard_1 says (to Giancarlo), "Thanks for nothing."
Giancarlo says (to Guard), "I? It matters not."
Ridolfo says (to Amber), "Before last night and today I would have said that he was fortunate in his lack of powerful enemies. Most people find it easier to deal with him than work to get rid of him."
Amber says (to Guards), "Quiet!  Your bickering does you no good."
Giancarlo says (to Guard), "Although ..."
[vodacce] Wilson asks, "Perception?"
[vodacce] InnocentBystander says, "the bad guy's name better not be Ussama."
[vodacce] Ridolfo says, "Sure."
Guard_2 exclaims (at Amber), "!"
Guard_1 mutters, "Great, another woman for him to fawn over."
Guard_2 stays resolutely quiet.
Wilson remains crouched by the water, waiting until the ripples quiet, looking at the swords.
Amber says (to Guard), "1 You shame yourself further.  You brought this on yourself, so quit your whining."
Venzi watches Wilson's back.
Guard_2 snickers.
Giancarlo asks (of Guards), "Listen, how much do you wish to be in your lord's good graces again?"
Guard_1 says, "I dunno. We botched things but good."
Giancarlo says (to Guards), "a learning experience. A good word here, a bit of help there, and his lordship might be disposed to look a little more kindly."

Wilson looks around to see what houses have a view of this area.
Venzi says, "breakfast, yes"
Chiara says, "I don't generally eat breakfast but in this case one might make an exception."
Wilson says, "Oh, right, food."
Giancarlo asks (of Guards), "We must depart shortly. But listen ... if you happen to see anyone suspicious, you will speak to me, si?"
Ridolfo says, "I'm more than happy to bring you back here later if you want."
Guard_1 says, "Huh? Oh, sure."

Guard_1 asks, "Hang on, where will we find you?"

Guard_2 says, "Did you see how she talked to me? Did you? And that sword she carried. I bet she can weild it like nobody's business."
Chiara says (to Venzi), "(as they walk along) That was quite the dramatic rescue."

Chiara looks around at her surroundings with some curiosity and disdain.
Ridolfo says, "Meander is going to be entertaining in there all morning."

[Crows-Nest] GM says, "Pay no attention to the spider behind the curtain."
Wilson says, "Ah, this is where all the best food is kept anyway."
Cook asks (of Ridolfo), "Who are these, then?"
Venzi has mostly stopped dripping by this point.
Giancarlo asks (of Ridolfo), "I see. We are in the kitchen, then, to taste the food for poison, si?"
Amber says (to Ridolfo), "I take it days don't usually start quite so excitingly."
Ridolfo says (to Cook), "Ah, love, be a dear and find some food for these guests."
Wilson grabs a hunk of bread from a nearby table in the meantime.
Ridolfo asks (of Giancarlo), "Hopefully his own tasters will take care of that. Unless you wish to volunteer...?"

Cook sighs. She says, "What can I get everyone?"
Ridolfo says (to Amber), "Not normally, no."

[vodacce] Amber exclaims, "bye!"
Chiara asks (of Cook), "I would be content with a bit of bread and some of that semi-soft white cheese that was being served last night, if any remains...?"
[Crows-Nest] Niccolo waves to Iby.
Venzi shrugs. "Whatever you have available."
[Crows-Nest] Venzi says, "byebye"
Wilson says (to Ridolfo), "So (munch) are there any other things that Meander (chomp) always does? (Wow, this is delicious.)"
Cook says (to Chiara), "That stinky cheese? We've still got lots."
InnocentBystander has disconnected.
Chiara says, "Fruit would also be pleasant, and liquid chocolate, if you are familiar with it."
Wilson says, "Clearly, they took advantage of his routine."
Chiara says (to Cook), "Right, the cheese with the fragrant bouquet.  You know the one."
Giancarlo says, "Ah, chocolate. I will have that, too."
Cook fetches some of the white cheese and fruit. "None of that liquid chocolate, sorry."
Wilson exclaims, "Liquid chocolate!  Wow, what a concept!"
Ridolfo says (to Wilson), "That's the only thing he does absolutely by routine."
Amber munches some fruit.
Giancarlo moustache trembles disconsolately.
Ridolfo says (to Wilson), "Fortunato's been after him to stop, or at least vary things."
Chiara says (to Wilson), "it is drunk hot.  A former... associate of mine introduced me to it."
Amber says (to Ridolfo), "Routines are unhealthy for those in the public eye."
Wilson asks, "Well, any upcoming scheduled events, then?"
Ridolfo says (to Wilson), "But he can be quite stubborn."
Wilson says, "Well, good for Fortunato."
Ridolfo says, "He will be at the demonstrations tonight, of course."
Venzi asks, "demonstrations?"
Ridolfo says, "And the masked ball tomorrow night."
Ridolfo says (to Venzi), "Feats of strength, skill, that sort of thing."
Venzi says, "ah yes"
Amber asks (of Ridolfo), "Was it his stubborness, do you suppose, that lead someone to attmept his murder?  Are there any particular issues that are being contested at the moment?"
Niccolo says, "Mmm."
Wilson exclaims, "Oh, a carnival!"
Ridolfo says (to Giancarlo), "Hey, you could demonstrate your poison-tasting skill."
Ridolfo says (to Amber), "Possibly, though normally people find it easier to work with him than around him."
Niccolo says, "So we've heard."
Giancarlo says (to Ridolfo), "Hah. As you can see, I have yet to successfully taste poison."
Venzi eats a piece of bread thoughtfully.
Giancarlo goes for the oranges.
Ridolfo says, "People scheme, of course. They always scheme."
Venzi says (to Ridolfo), "perhaps you could explain the situation with the vintner's guild that led to that .. scene last night"
Amber says (to Ridolfo), "Normally, that may be true, but this morning was hardly normal."
Ridolfo says (to Venzi), "Ah. The vintner's guild."
Amber asks (of Ridolfo), "You don't have even a glimmer of a supsiciun as to who would try to thwart him this way?"
Ridolfo says, "Some of the leaders in the guild were trying to squeeze Meander and Falisci for more money."
Wilson gets some fruit, puts a slice atop a piece of bread, puts some cheese atop it and another slice atop that, and eats the whole thing, to the astonishment of those assembled.
Niccolo picks out a bunch of grapes, to sample.
Ridolfo says, "Squeeze, you see, because they're vintners, and when they make wine -- never mind."
Giancarlo gives Wilson a funny look.
Venzi says, "uh-hunh"
Giancarlo asks (of Ridolfo), "Go on?"
Niccolo says (to Ridolfo), "He'll have to put his foot down."
Ridolfo says (to Amber), "If we are talking suspicion, nearly anyone on last night's guest list might have reason."
Ridolfo exclaims (at Niccolo), "Oh, very good!"
Venzi asks, "and the other man who, ah, perished mysteriously, who was he?"
Chiara goes on quietly eating the stinky cheese.
Ridolfo says, "Anyway."
Giancarlo says, "Ah, the guest list. That reminds me, I had wish to peruse it."
Cook says (to Chiara), "Eat all you want. We have plenty."
Wilson waves the concoction at Gian. "Earl of a neighboring county started doing this, and I must say it's a clever notion.  Sandwitch, is where he's from.
Ridolfo says, "The guild leaders finally convinced that idiot you saw last night to rebel."
[vodacce] Chiara says, "(momentary afk, back in a minute)"
Giancarlo mutters about witches and goes on eating his orange the way normal people do.
Venzi says, "surely they didn't expect him to succeed"
Ridolfo says, "They probably though it instructive."
Wilson asks, "So the guild leaders have a problem with him?"
Ridolfo says, "If Meander was too weak to handle him, all the better for the vintners."
Ridolfo says, "If not, well, one less vintner to give them competition."
Wilson frowns.  "Wow."
Venzi says, "reasonable enough"
Wilson says, "Well, the Contessa said his death was uninvolved."
Ridolfo says, "Meander decided to convince the vintners not to do that again."
Venzi asks, "and the other man? who was he?"
Wilson points at Ridolfo with his sandwich.  "Not to do it *themselves* again."
Ridolfo says, "Oh. Felipe."
Ridolfo says, "He helped manage some of the farmland Meander owns outright."
Venzi asks, "had Meander known him long?"
Giancarlo asks, "And did he have any known enemies?"
Niccolo asks, "Are there any guesses about who did it?"
[Crows-Nest] Giancarlo asks, "If the sun is on fire, how come there isn't any smoke?"
Ridolfo says, "No, and no, as far as I know."
[Crows-Nest] Wilson asks, "?"
[vodacce] Amber says, "no atmosphere"
Wilson asks (of Ridolfo), "Were the guest testimonies written down?"
[Crows-Nest] Giancarlo says, "My favourite reply to'any questions?'."
Venzi asks, "who was at the table with him?"
[Crows-Nest] Wilson says, "Heh."
Ridolfo says (to Wilson), "I can't get ahold of those. Fortunato will have those locked up tighter than -- well, very tight."
Wilson asks (of Ridolfo), "What about the guards that took the testimonies?"
Giancarlo makes a private note to speak to Fortunato.
Ridolfo says (to Venzi), "I'm not sure. You'd have to speak to Ludovica about that. She made the seating arrangements."
Amber asks, "Was the poisoned man of any importance to Meander?"
[vodacce] Wilson says, "There's a lot of 'ludo's in this merry little plot."
Ridolfo says (to Wilson), "Presumably you can ask them about it, but the two you saw today are about as bright as they come."
[vodacce] Venzi says, "no kiddin"
[vodacce] Venzi says, "g"
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "You'd think we were playing a game here."
Ridolfo says (to Amber), "Certainly. He managed Meander's lands."
[vodacce] GM says, "I figure at some point you'll want to talk to someone important."

Amber says (to Rid), "I meant of any personal importance, or will he be easily replaced."
Ridolfo says, "Oh, I see."

[vodacce] Amber says, "I think I felt a hint pass by."
Ridolfo says, "He'll be missed, but he wasn't irreplacable."

Cook says, "You going to fill up my kitchen all day? I have to get ready for tonight."
Venzi says, "he doesn't seem like the sort of person you would pick to poison just to spite Meander"
Venzi stands.
Venzi says, "I could use a change of clothes, I think"
Niccolo rises as well, still carrying the (half-stripped) bunch of grapes.
Giancarlo tucks an orange into a pocket and stands.
[vodacce] Amber says, "and a change of scenery."
Cook presses some of the white cheese in Chiara's hands. "Please, enjoy."
Chiara laughs, but does not refuse it.
Niccolo says (to Ridolfo), "Perhaps we should speak with Ludovica, as you suggested."
Wilson asks, "Hey, did we get a copy of the guest list?"
Ridolfo says (to Wilson), "Sorry, right."
Giancarlo says (to Niccolo), "All at once? We might make her nervous."
Ridolfo pulls a long list out of a pocket and gives it to Wilson.
Wilson blanches, but reads over the list.
Amber says (to Gian), "And if we don't speak to her all at once, it will make US nervous."
[vodacce] Venzi says, "there's like a hundred or two hundred guests"
[vodacce] Venzi says, "I don't think we really want to talk to them all individually"
[vodacce] GM says, "I will handle this like an IF game: If you know whom you want to look up, you can find them."
Giancarlo says (to Amber), "hah."
Ridolfo says, "I'm afraid the Contessa has other tasks for me."
Amber says (to Gian), "You're right, we'd be nervous either way.  Except Wilson . ."
Ridolfo says, "The other servants can help you find people if you need. And there's the bazaar going on all day."
Venzi asks (of Ridolfo), "we will see you later, then?"
Niccolo says (to Gian), "Mmm. And some of us are probably more familiar with that sort of thing than others. Er, customs, and such."
Giancarlo nods.
Chiara says, "I am reasonably familiar with such matters."
Amber says (to Niccolo), "I've been involved in some detective work with the Musketeers."
Ridolfo says (to Venzi), "I will be sure to find you before the contests tonight."

Ridolfo nods.

Chiara says, "We will see her, but only after I have put away this cheese."
[vodacce] GM says, "Okay, let's pause to make plans and let you know what'll be going on today."
Niccolo says, "If we're splitting up, I'd like to take a look around the grounds."
[vodacce] GM says, "In the palazzo nearby there will be a bazaar going on pretty much all day."
Niccolo says, "I'm curious who could have put the swords in place since yesterday, without being noticed."
[vodacce] GM says, "Artisans, traders, etc."
Venzi says, "it seems like a difficult operation"
Giancarlo says, "I am of a mind to speak to Fortunato."
[vodacce] Venzi says, "yeah I'm still hungry too"
[vodacce] GM says, "Many of the people from last night's party will be there."
[vodacce] GM says, "The family will be around the mansion, which traditionally is open to visitors duing this festival."
Giancarlo says, "Of course, I am also of a mind to take in some of the bazaar."
Wilson asks, ""I would like to speak to some of the guests I met last night, as a starting point.  Perhaps you others wish to, as well?"
[vodacce] Amber asks, "How about Wislon, Venzi and Niccolo go out and about, while Chiara and I and Giancarlo beard the lady in her lair?"
[vodacce] GM says, "Tonight are the aforementioned Feats of Strength"
[vodacce] Chiara says (to Amber), "if she's a lady she has no beard"
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "Works for me."
Giancarlo says (to Wilson), "It might be well if we could introduce each other to the ones at our table."
[vodacce] GM says, "And now I will let you plan."
[vodacce] Venzi says, "no wonder she's nervous"
[vodacce] Amber says, "So that's why we beard her.  If she already had one, we couldn't."
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "I thought bearding was like weeding."
Wilson says, "If it is fate that makes us useful to the Contessa, perhaps it is fate that seated one of us next to an important person in this tale."
Giancarlo says, "We could draw straws and let fate split us up."
Venzi says, "I must, of course, stay with Wilson"
Amber says, "I care little for fate, especially when others can warp it."
Wilson says (to Venzi), "Oh, I'd be safe with some of these others if it came to that.  But I do appreciate you staying."
Chiara says, "I wish to speak to Ludovica"
Niccolo says (to Wilson), "Perhaps you and I would be better suited to inspecting matters outside the manor."
Giancarlo says (to Niccolo), "You know the city best. You should probably be among the ones scouting out the bazaar."
Ridolfo says, "Since you now have plans, I will leave you to it."
Ridolfo bows. "Good luck."
[vodacce] Wilson says (to Niccolo), "It's when you put the queen in a cage and hang her from your chin."
Amber bows back.
Venzi nods to Ridolfo.
Giancarlo asks (of Chiara), "And the others within the house?"
Ridolfo leaves.

Niccolo asks, "Should we make plans to meet up again, or just trust Ridolfo to find us when needed?"
Amber asks (of Gian), "Good point.  Amber gestures toward Chiara.  "Shall we?"
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "Bazaar and other outside places."
[Crows-Nest] Giancarlo almost apologises to Amber for pulling her in, then remembers that apologies aren't exactly Giancarlo's style.
Chiara goes back to the room, carrying the cheese affectionately.
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Right."
Niccolo picks his way back through the corridors.
[Crows-Nest] GM says (to Chiara), "After a while that cheese will grow neat fur like a Chia pet."
[Crows-Nest] Chiara says, "it will all be gone by then muhahahahaha"
Giancarlo trots along to his room and dresses in something more suitable.
Venzi returns to his room and changes clothes quickly.
[Crows-Nest] Wilson says (to Chiara), "And attract a certain type of moth with lovely black and white wings.  In the pupae stage, of course, it's a bit less appealing."
Amber peforms a quick change, then hastens to Chiara's room, knowing she'll need help.
Chiara is arranging herself, since she is going to see the lady of the house, in the most modest thing she could find.
[vodacce] Amber says, "or wherever the heck she is."
Niccolo locates the nearest exit. Of course, that might be through the kitchen itself.
[vodacce] Chiara says, "I thought we're in the same room, two sides w/curtain"
[vodacce] Amber says, "right - lp pointed that out to me, too."
Wilson waits with Niccolo for Venzi to change, then heads out.
Chiara mutters (to Amber), "Does this necklace seem too ostentatious, to you?"
[vodacce] Amber says, "so I hasten to your side of the curtain, then.  and help you with your elaborate hair-do, or whatever it is that takes you so long.  :-)"
Chiara points out a lovely diamond-sapphire pendant given to her by a certain past admirer.
[vodacce] Chiara says, "heh"
[vodacce] Amber says, "I'm rolling fashion -"
[vodacce] Niccolo asks, "Where does the nearest exit put us?"

Wilson sketches the layout of the environs as they go.
GM says, "You find your way out and into the back of the house."
Giancarlo appraises Chiara's attire.
Niccolo makes his way around the outside of the manor, paying attention to ways on and off of the property.
Amber carefully reloads her pistols before heading out.
GM says, "The house is sprawling, and surrounded by lawn."
GM says, "In the very back is a hedge maze."
[vodacce] Venzi says, "yay"
Niccolo says, "Hmm."
Giancarlo says (to ladies), "The others must be kicking themselves over missing the opportunity to spend the morning with the two of you."
Venzi says, "I wonder what is at its center"
Niccolo rises on his toes, to try to peek over the top.
Wilson asks, "Shall we explore?"
Niccolo says, "Why not."
Wilson says, "Looks like a, uh, good place for clandestine meetings."
Amber admires Chiara's artful attire, and is glad she no longer has to dress like that.
GM asks, "Going in, then?"
Niccolo lowers his voice. "Then let's explore quietly, in case any are in progress."
Venzi says, "I imagine it would take some time to fully explore"
[vodacce] Niccolo asks, "How big does it look?"
Chiara nods to Giancarlo appreciatively.  "And your own attire is... just what one expected.  Shall we?"
Wilson asks (of others), "All together, or shall we split up?"
[vodacce] GM says, "It's medium-sized. From out here it looks like it might take an hour or two to thread your way through."
[Crows-Nest] Wilson asks, "Yeah, is this 'Curses' sized, or Versailles?"
Giancarlo bows and offers his arm.
Chiara takes the arm and goes to look for their nervous hostess.
Wilson says, "Hmm, it is pretty big."
Niccolo says (to Wilson), "That is up to you."
Venzi says, "I suspect it will take longer for all to emerge if we split up"
[vodacce] Amber says (to Chiara), "that sounded gross."
[vodacce] Chiara says, "yeah, I realized it made it sound like I put the arm in my pocket or something"

Stefani walks to the house, a little stiffly.

Niccolo whispers (aside, to Venzi), "Odd, she didn't seem nervous."

Carinna scuffs one foot on the wood floor.

Stefani says, "You are young; you will have time later to attend me, after we are married."

Stefani asks, "Meander has been asking after us. Shall we?"
Venzi asks (of Niccolo), "you're good at this -- have you been in many mazes before?"
Stefani offers his arm.
Carinna takes it. "Certainly, sir."
Stefani and Carinna leave.
Niccolo says (to Venzi), "This entire city is a maze. But on a slightly larger scale."
Wilson pauses, then thinks, "Oh,what the heck," and follows.
Venzi says, "true, true"

GM says (to Wilson), "They turn a corner. You follow, and there are two guards standing by a set of double doors. Stealth, please."

[Crows-Nest] Wilson says, "Nope, I'll listen while I can from here."
[Crows-Nest] GM says, "They're going in the room."
Carinna exclaims (at Guards), "Hi!"
Stefani and Carinna enter the room.
[Crows-Nest] Giancarlo guesses that he, Chiara and Amber are behind the doors.
GM says, "leaving Wilson lost in the house."
[Crows-Nest] Giancarlo says, "Or maybe not."
GM says, "We will now go to Chiara, Giancarlo, and Amber."
Wilson turns and makes his way out confidently.
Giancarlo escorts the signorinas along the hallways. Presumably some servant somewhere can direct them.
[vodacce] GM says (to Chiara), "The best way to approach Ludovica is undoubtedly to ask to be introduced by a servant."
[vodacce] Chiara asks, "all right: do I see one about?"
GM says, "Indeed you do."
Chiara looks up and down the hallway for a servant.
Giancarlo exclaims, "Excuse me! You there!"
Servant asks, "Yes?"
Giancarlo asks, "Could you direct us to signora Ludovica?"
Servant asks, "You need to see her?"
Chiara says (to Servant), "If it is not inconvenient for her."
[vodacce] Amber says, "sorry, I fell asleep in my chair."
[vodacce] GM asks, "Did you dream of webs?"
[vodacce] Amber says, "no dreams."
Servant notes Chiara's dress and nods. "I can take you to her."
Chiara says, "Thank you."
Servant says, "She is nearby. Follow me, please, m'lady."
Chiara follows the servant.
[vodacce] Amber says, "afk"
[vodacce] GM says, "First you sleep, then you go away. Geez."
Giancarlo says, "It always pays to be in the company of beautiful ladies, I see."
Servant eyes Giancarlo. "Hmf."
[vodacce] Wilson laughs.
GM says, "The servant leads you to a room where a woman sits, working on some close needlework."
Servant whispers (to Chiara), "Who are you?"
Venzi has disconnected.
Chiara whispers (to Servant), "Chiara Venterrini, a guest of Meander's this weekend"
Venzi has connected.
[vodacce] Venzi says, "(er, whoops)"
[Crows-Nest] Wilson exclaims, "It's a good thing she's not working on distant needlework, in the next room!  Ha Ha!"
[Crows-Nest] Chiara rolls her eyes
Servant says (to Ludovica), "Madam, Chiara Venterrini and others to see you."
Ludovica asks, "Oh?"
[vodacce] Amber says, "back"
Ludovica says, "Thank you, that will be all."
Servant bows his way out of the room.
Chiara moves forward to greet Ludovica.  "These are my associates, Amber and-- (thinks for a moment) Giancarlo."
[Crows-Nest] Giancarlo says, "Heh. I don't get no respect."
Giancarlo bows formally.
Chiara says (to Ludovica), "I am terribly sorry to disturb you"
Ludovica says, "It is no trouble." She gestures at the needlework. "I was merely passing the time before visiting the palazzo.""
Chiara says (to Ludovica), "But we are trying to ascertain the details of what passed last night..."
Ludovica says, "Oh. Yes."
[vodacce] Amber says, "i fell asleep due to high blood sugar and went away to get insulin so i'd stay awake."
Ludovica says, "Poor Felipe."
[vodacce] GM says, "You should have sent that husband of yours."
Chiara asks (of Ludovica), "He was a friend?"
Giancarlo says, "Most sad indeed."
[vodacce] GM asks, "Or was he too busy following old men and their child brides?"
[vodacce] Amber says, "right."
Ludovica nods.
Giancarlo says, "We understand that you arranged the seating for the evening."
Ludovica says, "I did."
Giancarlo asks, "If you please, Signora, could you tell us of the people seated with Signor Felipe?"
Amber asks, "Can you help us understand why you chose that particular arrangement of people?"
Ludovica says (to Giancarlo), "He was at the head table, with Meander, myself, my husband's advisor Stefani diTommaso."
Chiara asks (of Ludovica), "and none of you saw anything odd occur?"
Ludovica says (to Amber), "It is complex enough to nearly be an art in and of itself. Protocol, rank, who does and does not like whom."
Giancarlo . o O ( if it was a botched poisoning ... Stefani? We must find the man! )
Chiara says (to Ludovica), "You did a delightful job with our table.  I found Sir Guy enchanting."
Ludovica says (to Chiara), "Nothing untoward happened until Felipe let out a cry and staggered to his feet."
Ludovica says, "Why, my thanks."
Chiara asks (of Ludovica), "And he was, of course, served the same food as everyone else?"
Ludovica says, "Yes."
Giancarlo recalls the business with Sabatino and the ices."Where there any ... dishes exchanged?"
Ludovica thinks.
Ludovica says, "Not as I recall."
Chiara asks, "I suppose it goes without saying that Signor diTommaso is to be trusted?"
Ludovica says (to Chiara), "He is my husband's most trusted advisor."
Chiara says (slowly), "Yees. I see."
Ludovica asks, "I'm afraid my memory of the night is -- what?"
Amber asks, "Did you feel anything odd that evening?  Maybe something beyond what any of us could detect?"
GM says, "The door opens slightly, and Wilson's head appears."
[Crows-Nest] (from Niccolo) Ludovica says, "We are thinking of calling hm 'vizier'. It has a nice ring to it, don't you think?"
[Crows-Nest] Chiara says, "heehee"
Ludovica asks, "May I...help you?"
Wilson says, "Whoops!  My apologies."
Chiara glares at Wilson to go away
Giancarlo says, "...."
Ludovica asks, "You are lost?"
Amber gestures for Wilson to shoo.
Wilson says, "Uh, no!  No, not at all.  Sorry to intrude."
Wilson closes the door.
Ludovica says, "How very odd."
Wilson's footsteps recede into the distance.
Giancarlo says, "He's an odd man."
Chiara frowns at Giancarlo.
Ludovica says, "You know him, then."
Giancarlo gives Chiara a "what...?" look.
Chiara says (to Ludovica), "Leaving aside the, er, vagaries of the Avalonian..."
Ludovica asks, "Was he looking for you?"
Ludovica says, "I could have a guard go and find him again."
Giancarlo says (to Ludovica), "I doubt it."
Ludovica asks (of Giancarlo), "Sir?"
Chiara says (to Ludovica), "Some of us encountered him earlier. He is from Avalon. It explains his manners, I think."
Giancarlo says (to Ludovica), "(smiling) you are too gracious, signora, but the business of the Avalon gentleman need not intrude for now."
Ludovica says, "Ah. Avalonian."
Ludovica says (to Giancarlo), "But he did intrude, just now."
Amber says (to Chiara), "What manners? (in an aside)"
Chiara says (to Amber), "(aside) exactly."
Amber says (to Chiara), "That's what I meant.  Oh, never mind."
[vodacce] Giancarlo gets the impression that Ludovica isn't the brightest lantern in the house.
Ludovica says, "And I begin to wonder if you are involved in last night's goings-on."
Giancarlo asks (of Ludovica), "You have suspicions?"
Ludovica says, "Having an audience with me, asking these questions"
Chiara says (to Ludovica), "Only in the sense of having observed them, and from a distance, at that."
Ludovica says, "Having an Avalonian wander around."
[vodacce] Chiara says, "heehee"
Giancarlo says (to Ludovica), "But the house is open today, no? Any of the last night's guests might be wandering around."
Chiara says (to Ludovica), "We are only invited guests, who have come to be-- concerned."
Ludovica says (to Giancarlo), "You seem to wish to avoid the subject of that man."
Chiara asks (of Ludovica), "Then ask: what would you know about him?"
Giancarlo says (to Ludovica), "Only because you are a more interesting subject, signora."
Ludovica says (to Giancarlo), "As much as you flatter, one would think you had spent time at court."
Chiara says, "The Avalonian is a curious little person who studies bugs.  His sense of timing is poor, and he has no notion where he is wanted."
Ludovica says (to Chiara), "Oh, a *scientist*."
Chiara says (to Ludovica), "Precisely."
Wilson's footsteps get louder again, and his head again peeks into the chamber.  "Uh, excuse me?  Now, uh, now I'm lost.  I was only trying to find the exit.  It is down this hall and to the left, right?"
Chiara rolls her eyes.
Ludovica says (to Wilson), "Wait one moment, please."
Giancarlo says, "Excuse me."
GM says, "You hear more footsteps."
Giancarlo goes outside, pulling Wilson out of the room with him.
Guard asks (of Ludovica), "My lady? Are you disturbed?"
[vodacce] Chiara says, "(no, just nervous)"
Ludovica says (to Guard), "This man--" she gestures at Wilson-- "needs assistance finding a door which does not lead to my room."
Guard says, "Right you are, m'lady."
Chiara conceals a snicker.
[Crows-Nest] Niccolo exclaims, "Ooh, ooh, try that one! I think it's a closet!"
Wilson says (to Guard), "Hi!  Just trying to leave, actually."
Giancarlo says (to Wilson), "(whispering) see if you can find anything about Stefani diTomaso"
Guard says (to Wilson), "I can help you with that, sir. Right this way."
[Crows-Nest] Chiara asks (of Wilson), "rolled 0k-1 on your direction rolls, eh?"
Wilson (brightly) "Thanks!"
[Crows-Nest] Wilson asks, "Direction rolls?  What are they?"
Ludovica waits a moment, then gestures at the guard. "Now, please."
Giancarlo leaves Wilson to the guard and re-enters the room.
[Crows-Nest] Niccolo says (to Wilson), "it's a style of tumbling."
Wilson trots happily down the corridor.
GM says (to Wilson), "And the guard leads you to the backyard."
Wilson says (to Guard), "Thank y-- >slam<  Well."
Ludovica says, "I see that, if he is plotting against my family, he would need assistance."
Wilson . o O ( Thank goodness for the bumbling Avalonian stereotype. )
Chiara says (to Ludovica), "Quite a bit of assistance."
Amber asks, "Madame, one can see that you are well-versed in the hidden arts.  Did you feel anything last night that may have given you the sense that something was about to go wrong?"
[7thsea] GM says (to Wilson), "and a drama die for reappearing"
Ludovica says, "I must be...cautious about such."
[7thsea] Wilson exclaims, "Yay!"
Ludovica says, "You would do well to speak with Fortunato, captain of my husband's guard."
Amber says, "Yes?  Can you go on?  Any lead, however small, may prove invaluable."
[vodacce] Amber says, "timing"
Ludovica says (to Amber), "There was--"
Giancarlo says, "As we had intended. But you, as you were sitting right at the table, might have noticed something he might have missed."
Ludovica says, "I looked over the party, and it was as if there was a blank in my mind."
Giancarlo asks, "a blank?"
Ludovica shakes her head slowly. "I do not exactly know the words I need."
Chiara asks (of Ludovica), "something fogotten?"
Chiara asks (of Ludovica), "or something you were being kept from noticing?"
Amber asks, "A piece of the greater whole missing?"
Ludovica asks (of Chiara), "You know that spot in your eye which, if someone stands exactly in it, you cannot see them?"
Ludovica says, "It was as if that spot had moved directly into my vision."
Chiara says (to Ludovica), "Yes..."
Amber says, "Yes."
Giancarlo says, "the blind spot."
[Crows-Nest] Chiara says, "also known as IMMEDIATELY BEHIND YOUR HEAD"
Chiara says, "Very odd."
[vodacce] Amber says, "or your whole eye, considering they're standing IN IT."
Ludovica says, "I could see the party to either side, but it was blank at this one point."
[vodacce] GM says, "Pbbbth."
Giancarlo asks, "Where was this point?"
Ludovica tries to recall.
Ludovica says, "I cannot tell you. I initially thought it due to my fatigue at preparing the banquet."
Ludovica says, "It was only after what happened to Felipe that I gave it any more thought."
Amber asks, "Was the blank spot near Felipe?"
Ludovica says (to Amber), "No."
Amber asks, "Whom was it near?"
Ludovica says, "As I said, I do not truly remember."
Giancarlo says, "If you wish, we could go back to the terrace and you could show us."
Ludovica says (to Giancarlo), "So much work for what is probably nothing."
Ludovica says, "And I must prepare for this afternoon and tonight."
Ludovica begins putting away her needlework.
[vodacce] Amber asks, "Break soon?"
[vodacce] GM says, "We can do that. I was going to do a little more with the Outside People"
[vodacce] Venzi says, "yay outside people"
Giancarlo glances at the needlwork to see what she's stitching.
[vodacce] Amber says, "y'll go gamin, I'll go sleepin.  fair deal."
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "Mmm, outside."
[vodacce] Amber says, "nighty night."
GM says (to Giancarlo), "It's a nice landscapy scene."
[vodacce] GM says, "'night"
[vodacce] Niccolo waves to Amber.
[vodacce] Venzi says, "bye amber"
[vodacce] Giancarlo says (to Amber), "'night"
[vodacce] Amber says, "bye all."
Amber has disconnected.
Ludovica says (to Chiara), "As I said earlier, talk to Fortunato. He will be able to help you more than I can."
Chiara says (to Ludovica), "Thank you."
Chiara says (to Ludovica), "I will do so."
Ludovica says, "And do go visit the bazaar. It is bound to be entertaining."
Giancarlo says, "We have every intention of doing so."
Giancarlo bows.
[vodacce] GM says (to Niccolo), "You can start your scene now. I'll interweave until C&G are done."
Chiara takes leave of Ludovica.
Wilson makes his way back to the hedge maze.
Niccolo turns another corner, stops, changes his mind.
Niccolo says, "No, that way, I think."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Hey, this is exactly how my skipped scene in the house went.  Er, except for the being right bit."
[vodacce] Chiara says, "(I'm done talking to her myself)"
[vodacce] GM asks, "What are you and Giancarlo going to do now?"
GM says, "The maze is by all appearances empty this early"
[vodacce] Niccolo asks (of Wilson), "What are you doing now?"
[vodacce] Chiara asks (of Giancarlo), "up to you. shall we go to the bazaar, or look for Fortunato?"
GM says, "now that Stefani and Carinna have vacated it."
[vodacce] Wilson says (to Niccolo), "I'm waiting outside the maze."
Niccolo says, "I think we're almost to the middle."
Venzi says, "I wonder what would be there"
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Though if I can see in in, I'll wave to you."
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "Fortunato, I think."
[vodacce] Chiara says, "very well"
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "Would seem to make more sense to speak to people inside before venturing forth."
GM says (to Venzi), "As it turns out, a fountain is there."
Chiara asks (of Ludovica), "One last thing-- where would we be likely to find Fortunato?"
[vodacce] Niccolo says (to Wilson), "Little does Wilson know, but we changed our minds and went to the bazaar instead of exploring the maze without him."
Ludovica says, "Last I saw he was in council with Meander. If not there, he will probably be in the guard house."
Niccolo says, "Aha."
Chiara says (to Ludovica), "Ah. Thank you."
GM says, "and a quick path back out."
Chiara makes a deferent gesture and goes out.
Venzi says, "excellent"
Niccolo looks at the fountain.
[vodacce] Wilson asks, "You didn't search the fountain?"
[vodacce] Niccolo exclaims (at Wilson), "I'm trying!"
[Crows-Nest] Giancarlo keeps reading that as 'defiant gesture'.
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Heh, timing."
[Crows-Nest] (from GM) Ludovica says, "You bite your thumb at me, madam?"
GM says (to Niccolo), "A nice marble fountain. Some coins are in the bottom under the water."
[Crows-Nest] Chiara says, "no, I don't want to get my glove soggy"
GM says, "But no swords."
Chiara goes looking for the guard house.
Niccolo says, "Hmm."
Niccolo says, "Perhaps later, we shall see a pool with staves in it."
[vodacce] GM asks (of Chiara), "Anything specific, or just wandering around looking to see if there's some place with lots of guards?"
Venzi says, "it would seem somewhat backwards to have the water filled with cups"
maga_dogg arrives, looking for booty.
Giancarlo asks a servant.
[vodacce] Chiara says, "well, asking a servant on the-- there we go."
Niccolo walks around this central patio, getting a nice look at the area.
Servant asks (of Giancarlo), "Yes?"
[vodacce] Niccolo asks, "Grass underfoot, or stone?"
[vodacce] Chiara says, "it seemed a bit much to pester Ludovica to draw me a little map"
[vodacce] GM says, "Stone close to the fountain."
Giancarlo asks (of Servant), "could you direct us to the guard house?"
[vodacce] Niccolo asks, "Any other prominant or interesting features?"
Niccolo admires the stonework.
Servant asks, "You *want* to go to the guard house?"
Servant says, "If you insist."
[vodacce] GM says, "Not really."
Chiara asks (of Servant), "Is it... unsuitable for ladies?"
Niccolo asks, "Should we try to find Wilson?"
[Crows-Nest] Giancarlo says (to Chiara), "Why, do I look like a lady ... oh. right."
Venzi says, "I can't imagine what he's been up to"
Venzi says, "but yes, that seems like a good idea"
Servant says (to Chiara), "It is a little rough, m'lady."
Wilson's voice faintly wafts through the hedges.  "Hello?  Venti?  Niccolo?  Are you still in there?"
Niccolo looks around. "Hopefully he's not lost in the maze."
Venzi exclaims, "just coming out now!"
Chiara says (to Servant), "Perhaps my associate here had better be the one to actually go inside, then."
Niccolo tracks his way back to the entrance.
Chiara looks at Giancarlo.
Giancarlo says (to Servants), "I am sure such men as the Falisci guards will know how to behave in the presence of a lady."
Servant shrugs.
Giancarlo says (to Chiara), "Although if you insist on being left outside the guard-house, alone...."
Servant says, "You seem to know all about de Falisci, sir. I will defer to your wisdom."
Chiara says (to Giancarlo), "You put the point well.  I will come in."
Wilson exclaims (at Niccolo), "There you are!"
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "(Did you say there was a second exit from the center?)"
[vodacce] GM says, "Yes. A direct one."
Servant says, "This way, please."
Chiara follows.
Giancarlo follows
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "(Aha. Must have led to the back of the maze...)"
Niccolo asks (of Wilson), "Aha, and how was the young sprinter Carinna?"
GM says (to Chiara), "The servant leads you outside and to a stone building next to the house."
Wilson relates his adventures.  "...so, those two are engaged to be married.  Carinna, you say?  The daughter, then.  The man, Stefani, seems none too confident of Fortunado's abilities, too."
Wilson exclaims, "And I happened to run into Gian, who said to find out what we could about Stefani!"
Venzi says, "well, we know he chases young ladies"
Chiara says (to Giancarlo), "After you."
Wilson says (to Venzi), "That he is engaged to, at least."
Wilson says, "For all their age difference, Carinna seems to fancy him, in a naive way."
Niccolo asks, "They told you all of these things?"
Wilson asks, "Well.  Continue our circuit, then to the bazaar?"
Niccolo nods.
Wilson says (to Niccolo), "No, weren't you listening?  I heard them talking to each other."
Niccolo says (to Wilson), "Ah, I must have misheard you."
Giancarlo bangs on the door and opens it.
Niccolo continues the aforementioned circuit.
Chiara looks dubiously inside.
[vodacce] Wilson says, ""But Kermit, the band wants to know!"  "Well, why not give them the script?""
GM says (to Giancarlo), "Inside are bunks, with a small commons area cleared to one side. Several men are relaxing inside."
Giancarlo looks around for Fortunato.
[vodacce] GM asks, "So y'all headed for the bazaar?"
GM says (to Giancarlo), "You don't see him."
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Yup.  After circling the mansion and sketching the layout."
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "By way of walking around the other side of the house, yeah."
Giancarlo looks to the nearest guard. "Where is Signor Fortunato? We wish to speak to him.
Guard says, "Hey, look alive, people, company."
Guard asks (of Giancarlo), "You got business with the captain?"
Guard_1 says, "Hey! I know those people."
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "yay"
[vodacce] Wilson laughs.
[vodacce] Venzi says, "hee hee"
[vodacce] Wilson exclaims, "It's Guard 1 from Scene 24!"
[vodacce] Chiara exclaims, "soon Second Tall Man will appear!"
Guard_2 asks, "Where's that other woman who was with you two earlier?"

Chiara says (to Guard_2), "We'll tell her you asked after her."

Guard_1 asks (of Guard 2), "Aw, c'mon, can't you see they've got important things on their mind?"
Chiara says, "But we would speak to Fortunato."
Guard_2 smiles happily.
[vodacce] Chiara says, "heeheehee"
Guard asks (of Guard 1&2), "Who are these people?"
Guard_2 says, "They're the ones who saved Meander."
[vodacce] Chiara says, "(so is he Guard 0?)"
GM says, "And on you go to the bazaar."
GM says, "which is full and bustling."
[vodacce] Giancarlo says (to Chiara), "I think that would be Fortunato."
[vodacce] GM says, "Next up will be Mover#523"
[vodacce] Chiara says, "heh"
[vodacce] Wilson exclaims, "Yay!"
Niccolo ditches the naked grape twigs ina  bush on the way.
[vodacce] Wilson says, "'Naked Grape Twig' is my favorite web-generated Roman name."
Niccolo mingles into the crowds, listening for any interesting conversations that might pass by.
Wilson looks for a) the people he sat with at the party, b) people other people sat with at the party, and c) pretty paintings, in that order.
Guard_1 says (to Chiara), "If you're looking for Fortunato, he's holed up with Meander, talking."
ParserGirl goes home.
Chiara says (to Guard_1), "Ah. Best not to interrupt, then, I suppose."
Giancarlo says (to Guards), "(smiling) Thank you. I suppose we shall have to catch him later, then."
Chiara asks (of Giancarlo), "To the bazaar, then?"
Sabatino exclaims (at Niccolo), "Ah! Ah ah! My friend!"
Giancarlo says (to Chiara), "Si."
Chiara takes Giancarlo's arm again.
Niccolo exclaims (at Sabatino), "it's good to see you again!"
Giancarlo strolls with Chiara to the bazaar.
[Crows-Nest] Giancarlo exclaims, "Before I kill you, Mr Bond ... wait, what's that sound? Ice cream!"
[vodacce] GM says (to Giancarlo), "We'll get you and Chiara into the bazaar next go-round."
[vodacce] Chiara says, "fair enough"
[vodacce] GM says, "I want to finish up this meeting with Sabatino and then call it a night."
[vodacce] Chiara says, "ok"
Sabatino exclaims, "Are you looking to buy? There are plenty of traders here!"
Wilson stands next to Niccolo expectantly.
[vodacce] Chiara says, "I'll go get that cup of hot chocolate I've been wanting ever since Chiara mentioned it to the cook :)"
[vodacce] GM says, "yay"
Sabatino asks, "And who are your acquanitances?"
Niccolo says (to Sabatino), "Perhaps, perhaps... Ah, this is Wilson Mayhew -- he's from Avalon -- and Venzi dal Vento, his associate."
Venzi nods to Sabatino.
Niccolo says, "Fellows, this is none other than the very Sabatino Graziano himself."
Sabatino says, "Pleased to meet you! I'm Sabatino Graziano."
Sabatino exclaims, "Oh! Oh oh! My fame preceeds me!"
Venzi says, "my goodness. we *are* in luck."
Sabatino claps Wilson and Venzi on the shoulders. "If you're looking to buy here at the festival, let me know. I can help you get a better deal."
Wilson grins, shakes Sabatino's hand.
Wilson says (to Sabatino), "I am in the market for paintings, actually.  And I have brought some of my own to trade or sell."
Sabatino exclaims, "You are an artist. How exciting!"
Sabatino says, "An Avalonian artist here at our little fete."
Wilson smiles modestly.
Sabatino says, "And in the company of a very serious looking man."
Sabatino asks, "Is he your framemaker?"
Wilson laughs heartily.
Wilson says, "No, I thought it prudent to have a guide whilst in Vodacce who was familiar with the ways here.  And handy with a sword."
Sabatino says, "Oh, a swordsman."
Sabatino says, "I once had plans to be a swordsman."
Sabatino pats his ample stomach. "Other things got in the way, though."
Wilson laughs again.
Niccolo grins.
Venzi says, "I am sure with a little diet and exercise, you could be back in form in no time"
Sabatino says, "My form is pear-shaped, and pear-shaped I expect it to stay."
Sabatino asks, "Besides, who trusts a skinny innkeeper?"
Niccolo asks, "Ah, how true. It looks like you've gotten a chance to see more of the bazaar than we have so far... what do you recommend we keep an eye out for?"
Sabatino says, "Some cymbr are performing. You should see them juggle."
Sabatino exclaims, "And the fire! Woo!"
[vodacce] (from Wilson) Sabatino says, "Avoid the mimes, though."
Niccolo asks, "Excellent! That sounds exciting. Oh, how did that matter last night turn out?"
Sabatino asks, "That matter?"
Niccolo asks, "Mmm. The questioning and so forth?"
Sabatino says, "Oh."
Sabatino says, "Nasty, horrid business, that."
Sabatino frowns.
Niccolo nods, "I would imagine."
Wilson says, "For all of us."
Sabatino says, "I hope they find the man who killed poor Felipe and string him up."
Venzi asks, "did you know Felipe?"
Sabatino glances around at the crowds, then leans closely and whispers confidentially.
Sabatino says, "I THINK FORTUNATO HAS A FEW LEADS AFTER THE QUESTIONING."
GM says, "All around you, heads turn."
[vodacce] Niccolo laughs.
[vodacce] Wilson exclaims, "Hee!"
Sabatino says, "But don't tell anyone."
Wilson exclaims, "A few beads for the shirt strings?  Excellent!"
Venzi says, "we'll keep that in mind"
Niccolo says (to Sabatino), "It's safe with me. It's good to hear the matter is in safe hands."
[vodacce] Chiara says, "Sabatino as played by dfan"
maga_dogg disappears through an invisible gap in the MUD. You think you may have heard the sounds of chatting before the gap closed again.
Sabatino says, "Let me show you where some of our local painters have set up their tent."
Niccolo exclaims, "Wonderful!"
GM says, "And Sabatino leads you to a few vendors and out of chapter 2 of our story."
[vodacce] Wilson grins.
[vodacce] Venzi says, "woo"
[vodacce] GM says, "And two xp for everyone."
[vodacce] Chiara says, "yay"
[vodacce] Venzi says, "yay"
[vodacce] Wilson says, "Excellent."
[vodacce] GM says, "Plus a drama die for Chiara for her handling of Ludovica and especially Wilson's interruption."
[vodacce] Niccolo says, "Yay"
[vodacce] Giancarlo says, "yay"
[vodacce] Chiara says, "woot"
[vodacce] Venzi says, "excellent"
[vodacce] Wilson exclaims, "Hey, my interruption got us *both* a die!"
[vodacce] Chiara says, "heehee"
[vodacce] Niccolo asks, "Anything before I close log?"
[vodacce] GM says, "Nothing from me."
[vodacce] GM says, "except to say nice job getting the story chugging forward."
