Here's a proposal for a new system for character experience/advancement:
Stars are accumulated per player (not per character). Every character (not every player) has a checklist as below. At any time, even during a session, you can spend 3 stars to check a box. You can only check off each box once (per character).
Then here's the checklist:
General
- Rebuild: Rebuild the character from scratch - skills, stunts, and aspects. Handshake agreement that you keep the overall concept the same.
- Retire: Retire the character. Make whatever statements you want about the character's future and eventual fate. You must have checked at least three boxes to check this one.
Skills
- Breadth: Add four skills you don't have at average.
- Depth: Add one skill you don't have at average, then move one average skill to fair, and then move one fair skill to good.
- More Depth: Move one good skill to great, and then one great skill to superb. You must have checked at least two boxes under Skills to check this one.
Stunts
- Expand Stunt: Add an additional, related, ability to a stunt.
- Expand Stunt: Add an additional, related, ability to a stunt.
- New Stunt: Add a whole new stunt. You must have checked at least two boxes under Stunts to check this one.
Aspects
- New Aspect: Add a new aspect.
- New Aspect: Add a new aspect.
- Extra Fate Point: Get one more fate chip per session. You must have checked at least two boxes under Aspects to check this one.
Web
- Wealth: You're now rich! At least in Web terms.
- Organization: You're now in an important role in an organization of your choice (existing or a new one you make up).
- Political Power: You have notable political pull on the Web council. You must have checked at least one box under Web to check this one.
