[tomb] PerrySimm says, "Log on."
Grog has arrived.
[tomb] Crumbli says, "According to the movie Krull, it's a five-bladed throwing weapon like an oversized shuriken. But they may be taking liberties."
[tomb] DM | http://images.google.com/images?q=glaive&hl=en&btnG=Search+Images
[tomb] Clem says, "I thought a real glaive was a kind of polearm."
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah"
DM says, "Let's see, we just need Ebezar and Finn"
[tomb] Clem says, "Although the one from Krull was pretty sweet, apart from being bloody dangerous for the wielder."
DM says, "I just posted a map of this room to the forums: http://hamesucken.com/tomb/30.html"
[tomb] Paulie says, "I guess http://hamesucken.com/tomb/30.html implies that http://hamesucken.com/tomb/30.jpg is actually the glaive."
[tomb] DM says, "Good point"
[tomb] DM says, "They really could have reproduced these drawings at a higher resolution"
[tomb] DM says, "You know, so you could see them in all their quality"
[tomb] Crumbli asks, "So, do we want to risk opening the chests?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Good question. I'm personally wondering what's up with that smoke."
Crumbli says, "I want to search the chests for traps. Also, the sarcophagus. I'll take a twenty on each (35), if the rest of the party has the patience."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Since it seems not unlikely that it might have an effect on people breathing it in. And I kinda like being CN. Also, a boy."
[tomb] Crumbli says (to Paulie), "You don't know what you're missing."
Clem says, "I'll step carefully into the room, continuing to concentrate on my spell, to see if it holds up."
Paulie is in no rush to wander into the room with the sarcophagus labelled with the name of the most powerful and dangerous entity likely to be found inside this dungeon.
Clem says, "It looked like there was some non-permanent anti-magic field in here, but it might not affect divine spells."
Ebezar has arrived.
[tomb] Rosie wakens.
[tomb] Ebezar says, "I apologize for the delay."
Paulie says, "So I wonder if these statues might actually do more than just kill us when we accidentally trigger them."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "the magic box that cleans my robes did froth and o'erflow"
Crumbli says, "Well, my skills don't rely on magic."
Paulie says, "Like, say, open a secret passage to pants."
[tomb] (from Paulie) Rosie asks, "You've got robes? Lucky."
Crumbli says (to Paulie), "They do more than meets the viewer's eye, we know that much."
Ebezar says, "I tend to the view that anything in here is meant to kill us."
[tomb] DM says (to Ebezar), "Three minutes late, for shame"
[tomb] Clem says, "Man, so that's why you look so clean after like eight days in the same dungeon."
DM says, "OK"
[tomb] Ebezar exclaims (at DM), "Frothing! O'erflowing!"
DM asks, "First of all, I probably shouldn't remind you guys of this, but did you want to have everyone put on their sunscreen as usual?"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "I need a refresher on anti-magic fields. Will they inhibit Ace as much as they do us?"
DM says, "Barkskin, I mean"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Also, has Crumbli searched all the walls here, or just the west one?"
[tomb] Paulie asks (of DM), "Are the mage armors still active from last time?"
DM says, "And Ebezar needs a new Mage Armor"
[tomb] Paulie says, "(Also, have we rested since then?)"
[tomb] Crumbli says, "Just the west."
[tomb] Paulie says, "casts up some mage armos for the mages."
Paulie casts up some mage armos for the mages.
Crumbli says, "Don't cast any time-limited spells until I'm done searching."
[tomb] DM says, "The last 'rest' was when Clem went back for equipment and stuff"
[tomb] DM says, "While you decide about that stuff I'll let Crumbli search"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "I also need to do false life"
Paulie waits for Crumbli before finishing them, then.
Crumbli says, "OK. Taking twenties on the chests and sarcophagus, looking for traps."
DM says, "The chests are all trapped!!"
Clem says, "And I'm checking whether my spell works in here."
Crumbli exclaims, "No!"
Clem says, "(The Locate Object)"
DM says, "with poison needles"
Ebezar rolls 1d10: 8 | 8
Crumbli asks, "Well. I can try to disable these. What do you say?"
Rosie says, "Wait, search the other walls first."
Rosie says, "And maybe the statues."
Clem says, "Hmm, hang on, let me check if I can neutralise poison."
Paulie says, "Sure, I'm safely out of range."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "that takes me to 78 temp HP"
DM says (to Clem), "It winks out as soon as enter the room"
Clem steps back out, still concentrating.
DM says, "Meanwhile the sarcophagus doesn't look trapped, although you notice that it's been worked over a bit"
Paulie says, "This bodes ill for the mage armors I was about to cast."
Crumbli asks, "Hm. Are we seeing by the light of a Light spell?"
DM says, "Like, there was some inlay that's been pried out"
DM says (to Crumbli), "If you were, it went out"
Crumbli says, "If so, we should leave the lit object in the hallway."
Grog wears his magic crown.
DM says (to Clem), "The spell becomes active again when you step out"
Clem asks, "Okay, I don't have an anti-poison spell ready but I can prepare it in whatever it is, 15 minutes?"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Was the room itself lit internally?"
Ebezar says, "That is lucky."
[tomb] DM says, "Nope"
DM asks, "OK, have I finished catching up with everyone's actions?"
Clem says, "Well, this field affects holy magic, but it's non-permanent."
Crumbli says, "If it takes you 15 minutes to prepare, I'll search the east wall, taking twenties."
Clem says, "Let's just be careful if we get into a fight in there."
Crumbli says, "That takes 16 minutes."
Clem asks (of Ebezar), "You know magic -- do you think there's any chance those statues could come to life in such a room?"
Rosie says, "It's not like we're on a clock here."
Crumbli asks, "Does anyone have a mundane light source? Like a torch or something?"
Clem asks, "I do -- want it?"
DM says, "Uh, sorry, I messed up with the crown"
Ebezar says (to Clem), "hm hm hrm."
DM says, "Grog was not able to take it out of the throne room"
Paulie says (to Rosie), "Unless Mr. Ace has set his alarm spell to wake him up at dusk."
Grog looks heartbroken.
[tomb] Ebezar asks (of DM), "can I make something like a spellcraft roll or some knowledge roll about the statues?"
Clem lights a torch and gives it to Crumbli.
DM says, "Like, he was just unable to move out of the room while he was carrying it or wearing it"
Clem says, "Here, I'll cast a Light on this chalk too."
Clem says, "If the chalk lights up you'll know the field has gone for some reason, probably bad."
DM says, "So I'm assuming in retrospect he laid it lovingly on the throne before exiting"
Rosie says (to Clem), "The Ioun stones will also perk up again."
Paulie asks, "How much searching do we want to wait through before we get mage armored?"
Clem starts preparing Neutralize Poison now, just in case.
Paulie says, "If Crumbli accidentally triggers soemthing that attacks, I'd rather be prepared *before* it happens."
[tomb] DM says (to Ebezar), "You can make a knowledge roll if you like"
[tomb] Ebezar asks, "arcana?"
Paulie says, "It lasts for six hours, so it's not as though it's going to wear off *too* soon."
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, that looks good"
Ebezar rolls 1d20+17: 13+17 | 30
[tomb] Rosie says, "Wow, nice."
Crumbli says, "Once I'm done with the east wall, I want to try disarming the traps on the chests. That's secret rolls at +13."
Eolo has arrived.
Rosie asks (of Crumbli), "You don't want to check the other walls?"
Clem says, "Wait, let me immunise you first."
Paulie casts the spells right before Crumbli starts touching the chests, then.
Clem says, "Oh, crap, the spell won't work in there."
Clem says, "If you get poisoned we'll just have to drag you out."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Is Crumbli using a cloak of resistance?"
Crumbli says, "Ah, right."
Clem asks, "Unless you can move the chests?"
[tomb] Crumbli says, "Nope."
[tomb] DM says, "Well, it's not unusual for powerful or important entities to put big scary statues like these in their crypts"
[tomb] Paulie says, "(Hmm, guess it doesn't matter.)"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "ha ha"
Clem says, "It's better to cast the spell before getting poisoned, you see."
[tomb] DM says, "Whether just to scare off nasty things in the afterlife, or whether to protect their remains, who knows"
[tomb] Paulie says (to Crumbli), "If you want Resistance in spell form, I can give you a dose. But the anti-magic might make that irrelevant."
Crumbli says, "Well, suppose someone"
[tomb] Clem says, "I'd assume so."
DM says, "The chests are pretty heavy"
[tomb] Crumbli says, "I'll risk going without. Seems a shame to waste the spell."
DM asks, "OK, who has Paulie Mage Armored?"
[tomb] Clem says, "Okay, I'll try to heal you afterwards if necessary."
DM asks, "and did you want to have Finn Barkskin people too?"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Both last for 6/8 hours?"
Clem says, "If it lasts a few hours, sure."
DM says, "I guess it's usually Paulie and Ebezar that get the armor"
Ebezar says, "That sounds correct"
DM says, "All righty, and Clem, Crumbli, Ebezar, Paulie, and Rosie who get the Barkskin"
DM asks, "And Crumbli is going ahead and disabling?"
Crumbli says, "Yes."
Crumbli asks, "Now, who's got the best natural Fort save?"
Rosie stays out of the room for this part.
[tomb] Paulie says (to DM), "Myself and Ebezar."
DM says, "OK, actually, let me back up"
DM says, "The chests have three locks each"
[tomb] Clem says, "+8 fort here."
DM says, "and each of the three locks has a poison needle trap"
[tomb] Rosie says, "+10"
Rosie exclaims, "Oh! Left and left!"
Crumbli asks, "So, that's six Disable Device attempts?"
DM says, "Yeah"
Rosie says, "No, no, just the left one on both."
DM says, "So, choose east or west chest, and then left, middle or right lock"
Paulie says (to Rosie), "And now your soul will die."
Rosie says, "'You've left and left and found my tomb'"
Crumbli asks, "Ooh, right. Left and left or something?"
Clem asks, "His tomb is inside a chest?"
Paulie asks, "Does that mean that left and left is the right answer, or the soul-dying?"
Rosie says (to Paulie), "I think the soul-dying is compulsory."
Rosie says, "Like blood."
[tomb] Eolo says (to Rosie), "ha ha"
Paulie says, "I like my soul."
Rosie says, "At any rate, I read the quote as saying that your soul dies after you find the tomb."
Crumbli says, "OK! I'm eager for my soul to die, so I'm going to try to disable the needle in the left lock on the east chest, then the left lock on the west chest."
Rosie says, "And that 'left and left' is the way to find it."
Paulie asks, "So do we want to find it or avoid it at the moment?"
DM makes some secret rolls
DM asks, "+13?"
Crumbli says, "Yeah. I'm assuming -2 circumstance penalty for improvised tools."
Crumbli says, "With proper tools it would be 15."
DM says, "Aw, Clem could have gotten you some new ones"
Clem says, "Oops."
DM says, "I'll even let him have done so in retrospect, if you want to CHEAT"
Rosie exclaims, "Yay cheating!"
Crumbli crumbli is no cheater!
Crumbli says, "I"
DM says, "OK, improvised it is"
Crumbli says, "Not since going through that oeange mist, anyway."
Clem says, "I thought you asked for a *hawk* pick. That would explain why the guy in the thieve's store gave me such a funny look and said he was out of stock."
DM says, "You failed on the east chest, although you yanked your finger back in time to avoid being pricked"
DM says, "And succeeded on the west"
Crumbli says, "Well, at least it's sprung now."
Crumbli says, "Unless it isn't."
DM says, "No, it's not sprung"
Crumbli says, "In that case, I try again."
DM says, "You disable it"
Clem says, "Go Crumbli!"
Crumbli says, "OK! I think it's probably time to get those keys out now."
Crumbli asks, "We have that one that was broken and mended, and wasn't there another?"
DM says, "Someone has definitely been at these chests before, by the way"
Crumbli says, "Hm."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Is this the first set of traps that we bypassed by actually disabling them?"
DM says, "There was a key on the steps, too"
Ebezar says, "Other hapless adventures."
Crumbli says, "Right, right. The bronze key."
Clem says, "I have the key from the slime vat."
Crumbli says, "So... I try the slime key on the east chest."
Crumbli says, "In the left keyhole."
DM says, "It doesn't fit"
Crumbli says, "Then I try the bronze key."
DM says, "It doesn't fit"
Crumbli says, "Hm."
Crumbli says, "OK then: same keys, same order, west chest, left keyhole."
DM says, "Neither fits"
[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "talk about an unhelpful parser. some hinting from the author would have been nice."
[Crows-Nest] DM says, "Your logic, while interesting, is flawed."
Crumbli asks, "Bah. Do we have any more keys?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "I thought we had a third key, but I can't remember where I thought it might've come from."
[Crows-Nest] Clem asks, "What, you want it to be 'the slimy chest' and 'the bronze chest'?"
Paulie says, "I thought we had three, but maybe I'm just rememebring one being in two pieces."
Clem says, "No, I remember that too, but it was several days ago/"
DM says, "There have just been two, yeah"
Grog holds up his axe. "Maybe hit lock instead?"
Clem says, "It feels like months!"
[Crows-Nest] Rosie says, "Hee"
Clem asks, "Could you just pick the lock?"
Crumbli says, "I want to make Open Lock checks on the ones I think I've disarmed."
Rosie examines the sarcophagus to see if an orange gem would fit in it.
DM says, "All righty"
Crumbli says, "Taking tens, for 23 each."
DM says (to Rosie), "No place that looks appropriate"
DM says, "Crumbli opens the locks!"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "What else did the other dead guys have?"
Crumbli asks, "OK. Um, those weren't by any chance the only keyholes of the six that were actually locked?"
DM says, "No chance"
Crumbli says, "It's possible that opening those two locks does something special that we haven't noticed. Or it's possible that I just have to open the other four now."
Clem says, "Hmm, seems like you might as well do the rest now."
Clem says, "Apart from the whole poison thing, I guess."
Rosie says, "I'm thinking--these things have definitely been messed with."
Paulie says, "Maybe opening those two first disables the poison needles."
Rosie asks, "Maybe some of the skeletons we've seen took something from here that we now need?"
Paulie asks, "Didn't we search them?"
Crumbli says, "Har. The only reason we suspect that the two left locks are special is that clue, which might be about something else."
Clem asks, "The statues?"
Rosie says, "There was the orange gem bunch, then the group in the water room behind the flying swords."
Crumbli says, "OK, I'm going to try to disarm the other four needle traps."
Rosie asks, "Like, turned into statues?"
DM asks, "In what order?"
Ebezar asks (of DM), "when you say 'messed with,' what do you mean?"
Rosie says (to Crumbli), "For lack of any other idea, I suggest the left chest first."
DM asks (of Ebezar), "The chests?"
Crumbli says, "OK. Left from the entrance is east. So, east middle, then east right, then west middle, then west right."
DM says (to Ebezar), "The chests show signs of battering, prying, etc."
Crumbli says, "I suspect that each of the other four locks wakes up a statue."
Rosie says, "Wow, that would be annoying."
Paulie stays outside the doorway why the unlucking happens.
DM says, "You fail on the east middle"
DM says, "(without being pricked)"
[tomb] Ebezar asks, "if we're going to mess with the other locks, what about moving us all out into the hall so the statues (if they come to life) are bottlenecked?"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Sounds good to me."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Works for me."
[tomb] (from DM) Ebezar says, "and so Crumbli can die all alone?"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Then Crumbli can tumble through us."
[tomb] Clem says, "Okay, but I'm standing by the door in case I have to haul Crumbli out for healing."
Crumbli asks, "But the rest seem to go okay?"
[tomb] Paulie says (to DM), "Ih, like he's never done it before."
DM says, "I was waiting to see if you wanted to retry that first before going on"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "I'll try not to scorch him with the fireball"
[tomb] DM says, "Her!"
Crumbli says, "OK, let's keep trying east middle until I succeed or get hurt."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Whoops. You'd think the naked thing would make that easier to remember."
Crumbli says, "I have a save bonus against traps, by the way."
[tomb] DM asks, "OK, what is the order everyone is standing in outside?"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "in the arcane arts, it's common to refer to someone by their original gender and form regardless of what terrible accident they have brought upon themselves while meddling in things man was not meant to know"
[tomb] Rosie says, "I'll take middle, I suppose."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "How wide is the door/corridor?"
Crumbli says, "Er, just reflex save though."
[tomb] DM says, "I think the standard order is Grog / Finn, Kong / Paulie, Ebezar / Clem, Rosie"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "though in this case we may want to move Rosie up"
[tomb] Paulie says, "That's fine with me."
[tomb] DM says, "The doors are 10 feet wide, the stairs behind them are 30 feet wide"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "And we each need 5ft to maneuver?"
[tomb] DM says, "Each person is a 5x5 square, yeah"
[tomb] DM says, "Someone make up an order and everyone else agree"
[tomb] Paulie says, "I'm good with the one you just gave. If Rosie wants to give an alternate order, go for it."
[tomb] Clem says, "Let's just use that one, yeah."
DM says, "Second attempt fails too"
DM says, "Third attempt succeeds!"
DM asks, "On to east right?"
Crumbli says, "No"
Crumbli says, "Disabling that trap was hard enough that I'm changing my mind about how to proceed."
DM says, "The statues continue to look very scary!"
Crumbli says, "I will now immediately try the keys, then (assuming they don't work) try to pick it, again taking ten for 23."
DM says, "Neither key fits, and the Open Lock attempt fails"
Crumbli says, "This way, if opening those locks does something bad, I won't ahve wasted my time trying to unlock another."
Crumbli says, "(Wasted my time trying to disarm, I mean.)"
[tomb] Rosie says, "How about this:"
[tomb] Rosie | -|..|- [tomb] Rosie | .G..C. [tomb] Rosie | .RFKP. [tomb] Rosie | ...... [tomb] Rosie | ..E...
[tomb] Ebezar says, "I like that E"
Crumbli says, "OK. I took ten on the left locks and it worked. So these locks are more difficult."
[tomb] DM asks, "That's rotated 180 degrees?"
[tomb] Clem | ......
[tomb] Rosie says, "Oh, right."
Crumbli says, "So the locks are not all the same."
[tomb] Clem | ..Lich..
[tomb] DM says, "Ha ha"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Yeah, that was supposed to be the door."
[tomb] Paulie says (to Rosie), "OK."
Crumbli says, "So I'm nervous. This supports the 'left and left' theory."
Crumbli says, "So I'm going to nervously take twenty on opening this lock. It'll take 2 minutes."
Clem says, "It does, but I don't see where that leaves us."
Rosie asks, "Wait, did you try to open the chest already?"
Crumbli says, "I haven't opened all the locks on the chest."
Rosie says, "Also, if you can take 20, you should always do so."
Paulie says, "If it comes down to it, I have this Knock scroll that's been burning a hole in my haversack since we set out."
DM says, "Crumbli only opened one of the three locks"
Rosie asks, "Yeah, but did you try?"
Rosie says, "The other locks might just be traps."
Rosie says (to Paulie), "Except that magic doesn't work in here."
Paulie asks (of Rosie), "Not actually attached to the chests properly?"
Crumbli says, "Yes, I tried."
Rosie says, "OK."
Paulie says (to Rosie), "Please, stop bringing logic into this."
Rosie says, "Ha"
DM says, "2 minutes later, Crumbli picks the middle lock"
[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "as soon as I hear the click, I'm keyed up enough that I cast fireball"
Crumbli says, "If nothing untoward happens, I proceed to the right lock."
[Crows-Nest] Paulie asks, "This is why you're standing that far away, right?"
Crumbli says, "Disarm (secret rolls at +13), then take 20 for 33 to open."
DM says, "Crumbli disables the poison needle on the first try"
Crumbli says, "Cool"
[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "you got it"
Crumbli asks, "And do I open the lock?"
Crumbli asks, "Or is it even tougher than the middle one?"
DM says, "It is even tougher than the middle one"
[tomb] Clem says (to Paulie), "If it's literally burning a hole in your haversack, I don't think that's actually a Knock scroll."
[tomb] Clem asks, "Did you let Ebezar hold it at any point?"
Crumbli says, "Well, I'll try the keys, then."
DM says, "but using all of her lifetime's worth of skills, Crumbli is barely able to pick it"
Crumbli says, "Oh! OK."
[Crows-Nest] G2 says, "with her new nimble girl fingers"
Crumbli says, "Well, here goes nothing. Stand back and ready your weapons."
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "This is like MacGuyver."
[Crows-Nest] Rosie says (to Crumbli), "That's DM code for "You are about to lose a level.""
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Only not very."
Crumbli says, "I fling open the chest."
DM says, "It's filled with gems!!"
Clem says, "TREASURE"
Rosie blinks.
Paulie says, "*This* is what we came here for."
Rosie exclaims, "Detect magic!"
Crumbli says, "Well. Here's our chance to get rich and get gone, if you're COWARDS."
[Crows-Nest] (from DM) DM says, "They attack!!"
Clem says, "Hey, look, we can't detect any magic at all, how about that."
Ebezar says, "Detect loot, more like it."
Rosie says (to Clem), "We can detect magic from this room."
Clem checks whether the field is still active.
Clem says, "Hmm, give it a try, I guess."
Crumbli says, "I start removing the gems from the chest."
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Didn't we see that the statues etc. were magical?"
Paulie says, "We should save our game as soon as we fill our pockets."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Yes."
DM says (to Clem), "The light is still out, if that's your check"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Although we don't know the flavor."
Clem says, "It is, thanks."
Crumbli says, "Fully expecting a wobblefiend at the bottom."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Ebezar could probably tell, if he used the wand."
[tomb] Rosie says, "Well, Crumbli already touched one, but might as well."
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, Paulie's Detect Magic worked"
Crumbli says, "Maybe the statues come to life when you try to remove the gems from the room."
DM says, "OK, you remove a bunch of gems"
Rosie says, "In that case, all we have to do is run."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "If the gems were magic, would we have been able to tell through the chests, or are they lead-lined or whatever it takes?"
DM says, "They're pretty nice gems"
Paulie says (to Crumbli), "Pick the good ones."
DM says, "and there are thousands of them"
DM says, "Thousands!"
Ebezar says, "MUA HA HA HA HA HA"
Ebezar says, "ahem"
Clem says, "I suspect a trap!!"
Paulie says, "I wonder what sort of monster each gem will turn into."
Crumbli asks, "What do you say? Do you want to find out what happens if we try to take them out of the room?"
Paulie says, "Probably something swarmish."
Crumbli says, "I can still put them back."
Paulie asks (of Crumbli), "Why not?"
Rosie asks, "They aren't orange, are they?"
Crumbli says, "Or I can run out the room and past you carrying a handful."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Are they similar to any gems we've seen so far?"
[tomb] DM says, "Nope"
Paulie says (to Crumbli), "Or even tumble."
Clem says, "That sounds plausible."
Rosie asks (of Crumbli), "What alignment are you, again?"
Crumbli says, "Lawful Neutral."
Rosie says, "OK, that sounds like a good plan, then."
Crumbli says, "OK. I am going out into the hallway with a handful of gems."
Paulie says, "Fortunately, robbing the tombs of evil demi-liches is not only acceptable, it's required by law."
DM says, "Everyone oohs and ahs as Crumbli displays the beautiful bounty of booty she has collected"
Paulie oohs.
Rosie aahs.
DM says, "They're very shiny"
Clem says, "What booty!"
Paulie asks, "Should we start stuffing the haversacks?"
Clem says, "I feel that would be very bad for some sneaky reason."
Clem asks, "But if anyone has a spare sack...?"
Paulie rolls 1d20+4: 11+4 | 15
Rosie says, "If we can get them out of the room, I'm half inclined to take them out of the tomb altogether."
[tomb] Paulie says, "That is an untrained Appraise check."
Paulie says (to Rosie), "Aye."
Rosie says, "So that if at least one of us survives, they can get the loot in the end."
Crumbli asks, "Any of them big enough to fit in that gargoyle statue?"
Rosie says, "Oh, right, we could crush them."
Clem says, "Well, hang on, we lost like 80,000gp's worth of equipment on the way."
[tomb] DM says (to Paulie), "They're probably worth 50-100gp or so each"
Clem says, "We wouldn't exactly be coming out aheaad."
Rosie says (to Clem), "I'm only suggesting stashing them outside."
Paulie says, "Right, yes. We just found a fortune in gems and almost made the mistake of trying to escape with them and become rich"
Clem says, "Hmm, unless there are 1000 gems."
Clem says, "Oh, I see."
DM says (to Clem), "ThousandSSS"
Paulie exclaims, "Completely neglecting the option of having them crushed into fine powder!"
Clem says, "Okay, let's grab the gems and get out of here."
Crumbli says, "Anyway, the Tomb isn't over until your soul has been devoured."
Clem says, "Screw your pants, Crumbli, if you'll pardon the expression."
Paulie says, "Aye, let's take the gems and run."
Crumbli says, "There's still the other chest."
Ebezar says, "We have to find out what's in that other chest."
Paulie says, "After we've taken them gems and run."
[tomb] Clem says, "There's still the other chest, the sarcophagus, the weird urn, and the statues."
Crumbli says, "I will attempt to repeat the procedure: disarm middle, repeating until successful or hurt, then open lock on middle taking 20, then same with right."
[tomb] DM says (to Clem), "and your souls"
[tomb] Clem says, "It seems like there is plenty more to do here if we're interested in dying horribly."
Paulie says, "Let's first spend a day in town, sampling all the decadent pleasures it has to offer."
Rosie asks, "Wait, did Crumbli make it out of the room with the gems OK?"
DM says, "First disarm attempt on the middle lock fails"
Crumbli says, "Yes"
DM says (to Rosie), "Yes"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Sorry, missed that."
Clem says, "God, not Town again."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "if by 'ok' you mean 'writhing horribly on the floor', sure"
Clem asks, "How about if we head back out to City?"
DM says, "Second attempt fails"
Paulie says, "City probably has better cheeses anyway, sure."
Crumbli says, "Tough disarm."
DM says, "Third succeeds"
Paulie says, "Then after we've enjoyed as much hedonistic pleasure as we reasonably can in the span of a day or two, we can come back and have our souls consumed with a clear conscience."
DM says, "You take 20 and open the middle lock"
DM says, "Moving on to the right one"
Crumbli says, "I'm lucky that I can tell that the disarm attempts are failing, I guess."
DM says, "First attempt fails"
nothing_else has arrived.
DM says, "and a needle comes flying out at you"
DM asks, "What's your AC?"
DM asks, "14 plus 2 if it's a trap?"
Crumbli says, "Yes"
DM rolls 1d20+8: 20+8 | 28
Crumbli says, "Ouch"
DM says, "It gets you right in the breadbasket"
Crumbli asks, "How many points of CON damage do I take?"
DM says, "First there's regular damage!"
DM rolls 1d1: 1 | 1
DM says, "1 point"
Crumbli says, "whew"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Big mystery there."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "it would be funny if this was an acupuncture check"
Crumbli asks, "And then a fortitude save to avoid death?"
DM says, "Now make a Fortitude save"
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "Roll on the random acupuncture table."
[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "my arthritis from all of those disarm artempts is much better"
Crumbli rolls 1d20+3: 18+3 | 21
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "On a 23-26, it heals the CON damage being done by the poison."
DM says, "Crumbli shakes it off"
Clem says, "Whoa."
Clem says, "Well, let me know if you start feeling shaky."
Rosie asks, "Wow, are you OK?"
Crumbli says, "I'm fine."
Rosie says, "Whew."
Crumbli asks, "Now, is the trap sprung or do I have to do some more Disable Device rolls?"
Paulie asks, "Were you planning to have your navel pierced?"
DM says, "It is sprung"
Clem says, "This being the dungeon of infinite arrow, I'd be careful if I were you."
Crumbli says, "OK! Proceed to take 20 to open lock, then."
Crumbli says, "And, if successful, fling open chest."
DM says, "Straining to the utmost, you pick this one as well"
DM says, "Crumbli flings open the lid"
DM says, "The chest is empty!"
Crumbli says, "Aw."
Crumbli says, "I search the bottom for a secret compartment, taking 10 for 23."
Rosie says, "Doesn't have a false bottom or anything... You're way ahead of me."
Crumbli says, "Er, 25."
DM says, "Make another fortitude save"
Crumbli rolls 1d20+3: 11+3 | 14
Crumbli says, "Probably DC 15."
DM says, "I guess there was still some poison in your system"
DM rolls 2d6: 4 2 | 6
DM says, "because there goes 6 points of Constitution"
Clem says, "Yikes."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Ouch."
DM says, "No false bottom"
Clem says, "Get here out here, stat!"
Ebezar says, "Pull back, it may have poison gas"
Crumbli says, "I obey Clem."
Clem casts Neutralize Poison.
Clem says, "Unfortunately this won't restore your lost vigour, but hopefully it'll stop you dying."
Paulie says (to Clem), "Again."
Crumbli asks, "So, my CON is now 6. That's -2, right?"
Clem says, "I'm not made of diamonds!"
DM says, "Yep"
Paulie asks, "Are any of the gems diamonds?"
[tomb] Clem asks, "What would I need to cast to heal her? Restoration?"
[tomb] Eolo says, "yeah"
[tomb] DM | Points lost to ability damage return at the rate of 1 point per day (or double that if the character gets complete bed rest) to each damaged ability, and the spells lesser restoration and restoration offset ability damage as well.
[tomb] Eolo says, "or a couple lesser restorations, which heal 1d4 each"
Crumbli says, "And effectively 3 hit points per level gone. I'm level 7, so I lose 21 hit points."
DM says, "Maybe 10% of them are diamonds"
Paulie says, "So we've probably got a good hundred or so diamonds there."
Clem starts preparing Lesser Restoration.
Paulie says, "Even if they're only 50gp diamonds, that's still about 5000gp worth."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "thousandssss"
Clem says, "Nobody die in the next 15 minutes, please."
Rosie says, "OK, if we can get these gems out of here, I suggest we stash them outside (along with the other loot we've gotten so far) and heal Clem again before we continue."
Clem says, "Heal Crumbli, you mean."
Clem says, "That's not a bad idea."
Rosie says, "Er, right."
Paulie says (to Rosie), "Sounds good."
Ebezar says, "I agree."
Clem asks, "So, somebody get the gems?"
Paulie says, "If nothing else, we can set off whatever trap is being forestalled by the weight of all those gems pressing down on whatever touchplate the chest is on top of."
Clem says, "It may make sense for Crumbli to do so since she's immune to poison for the next 90 minutes."
Rosie says, "True enough."
Paulie asks, "Is the chest mobile?"
Clem says, "Plus she has so few hit points that any arrows or whatever will just go right through her."
Paulie asks, "Can Grog carry it?"
Rosie says, "It's possible that the chest has a spell on it that will turn on when removed from this room."
Paulie says, "True."
DM says, "Let's see, Grog's strength is 20"
Rosie says, "We could all stand in the room and toss out the empty one to see if anything happens."
[tomb] Clem says, "Whoops, Neutralize Poison had a material component. Luckily it was charcoal and we've been using torches."
[tomb] Clem says, "I'd better watch that, though."
[tomb] Rosie asks, "You didn't gather simple material components in town?"
DM says, "So he could carry up to 400 pounds"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "You didn't replace your inexpensive components while in town?"
[tomb] Clem says, "Lesser Restoration has none."
[tomb] Clem says, "I guess I did."
[tomb] Clem says, "But I shouldn't assume I have any more abstruse ones."
DM says, "Not enough for one of these chests"
Grog says, "Wow. Heavy."
DM says, "They're huge and made of thick iron"
Clem says, "And it's all gems!"
Clem says, "Well, and iron."
Rosie says, "Oh, the gems would be lighter."
Paulie says, "Right, so let's start filling pockets."
Rosie says, "If someone will hand me a sack, I will carry some."
Ebezar says, "I have a number of pockets in my robe, where gems can nestle most happily"
Crumbli says, "#tomb I've contemplated doing an adventure along the lines of: Your Wizard is knocked unconscious and carried into a dungeon. He's still got his spellbook but his component pouch is lost. Fortunately, the dungeon contains meterial components for many spells, if you can find them..."
Clem asks, "Yikes, so that's what ioun stones are for?"
Paulie says, "Someone must have that ranger's backpack, too."
Clem says, "I thought they were to enhance your magic!"
DM asks, "How many haversacks do you have left?"
Ebezar says, "Oh, yes, and this handy haversack."
Paulie says, "I ahve a haversack."
DM says, "It looks like each one can handle 12 cubic feet"
Crumbli says, "I wouldn't carry one of those into the anti-magic field if I were you.\"
DM says, "Ha ha"
Paulie says, "But it can only hold another four or so pounds."
Clem says, "Look, let's just fill some sacks and get out for the night."
[tomb] Paulie says (to Crumbli), "I think Finn already carried in a haversack."
Clem says, "I'd do it myself except you all seemed annoyed when I fell into that trap last time."
Paulie finds the ranger's backpack and gives it to Crumbli to fill.
[tomb] Ebezar says, "here, I happened to put several extra handy haversacks in this one haversack...."
DM says, "Ha ha 'the ranger'"
DM says, "I'm just going to say that it'll take about four trips"
Clem says, "Well, let's get started."
Crumbli exclaims, "OK!"
Rosie haul haul haul.
Ebezar fill fill fill trudge trudge trudge.
DM says, "OK, you fill up a bunch of sacks and stuff overflowing with beautiful gems"
Clem says, "I can teleport myself plus three others back to camp, each carrying a sack of gems."
DM says, "Uh, and that door out of the throne room is locked"
DM says, "but what Clem said"
Clem asks, "Who's coming?"
Clem asks, "And then, er, we'll come back and get the rest of you tomorrow?"
Rosie says (to Clem), "When you come back, just station someone by the door."
Paulie asks, "Do we want to spend any gems trying to get anyone to make us some replacement magic weapons or armor for those of us who had unfortunate accidents?"
Crumbli says, "I think I have to come because you were going to cast some spells on me."
Rosie goes with Clem, then stays by the door opening it for people when they come by.
Ebezar goes with Clem.
Paulie says (to Clem), "Crumbli can spend the intervening day resting off the poison."
Clem says, "Okay, Rosie and Crumbli and Ebezar."
[tomb] Rosie asks, "There's only the one locked door, right?"
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "The 3-sword door?"
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Right, I'll just hang out there and open it when it automatically closes each time."
Clem says, "Make a circle, and let's get out of here!"
Clem voomf etc.
[tomb] Rosie asks, "How long does it stay open each time, out of curiosity?"
[tomb] DM says, "30 seconds"
DM says, "Clem and friends all voomf"
Clem says, "Now, a Lesser Restoration for Crumbli, plus another with my Pearl of Power, so that's 2d4 ability healing."
Clem rolls 2d4: 1 2 | 3
DM asks, "What Pearl of Power?"
Clem says, "Aww."
Paulie plays games of skill and chance with Grog, Featherbeard, and Finn while everyone else is gone.
Clem says, "The one in Acererak's secret store, doh."
Clem heals 1hp of CON!
DM says, "Woo"
Clem says, "Perhaps we'd better try that again tomorrow."
[tomb] Rosie asks, "You don't have Restoration, only Lesser?"
[tomb] Clem asks, "Or can I ditch a previously-prepared spell and prepare something else in that slot?"
[tomb] DM says, "Nah, you have to wait until the next day, I think"
[tomb] Clem says, "I know Restoration but I'm out of level 4 slots."
[tomb] Rosie says, "Oh, OK."
[tomb] Rosie asks (of GM), "How long does it take to get to town from here?"
Clem says, "I guess we'd better stash this loot, before anything else."
[tomb] DM says, "A few days on foot"
Clem asks, "And then do we want to head back inside, or at least hold the door open so the rest of them can come out?"
Rosie has already headed back inside to open the door for the other four trips we need.
DM asks, "How are you stashing the loot?"
Clem says, "I dunno, somebody said we had stashed some already."
Rosie asks, "Is there a bank sort of thing in town?"
DM says, "No place you'd trust with hundreds of thousands of gold pieces worth of gems"
Paulie amuses himself by animating a rope.
Clem says, "Yes, a small town bank, I'm sure that can be completely trusted with 1000s of gems."
Ebezar says, "mrf."
Clem asks, "Anyone have any ideas for a secure place for this loot?"
Clem asks, "Just a really big hole?"
Rosie asks, "How about we bury it in one of the non-working entrances?"
[Crows-Nest] G2 asks, "another dimension?"
Clem says, "Hey, that could work."
Crumbli says, "Maybe we should search around the tomb entrance for other doomed parties' stashes."
Clem says, "Keep some on us in case the main stash vanishes for some stupid reason."
Clem says, "Ha ha."
Paulie . o O ( I hope they make sure to have 5,000gp of diamonds somewhere safe on hand. )
Clem, on a sudden inspiration, sorts through the gems and picks out the diamonds.
DM says (to Clem), "Huh, that's interesting"
Clem asks, "They turned into coals?"
DM says, "None of them appear to be diamonds anymore"
DM says, "In fact, they all appear to be worthless hunks of quartz"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Ha ha."
Rosie laughs.
Paulie . o O ( Man, sitting here alone sure is boring, but those gems will make it all wothwhile. )
DM says, "Ha ha"
Clem says, "Hmm, I'm not sure I could Raise the Dead with this."
Clem says, "Cure Light Hangover, possibly."
Clem says, "Well, let's head down and regroup."
Rosie asks, "How did an illusion work in a room with an anti-magic field?"
Rosie says (to Clem), "We're all already outside."
Rosie says, "So let's just camp here for Restoration tomorrow."
[tomb] Paulie says, "If I were there, I might suggest that maybe the illusion activated when the gems *left* the field..."
Clem says, "No we're not."
[tomb] Rosie exclaims, "You are there!"
DM asks, "Oh, everyone left when Rosie opened the door?"
Clem says, "Hey look it's all the other guys!"
DM says, "I don't think everyone understood your plan"
[tomb] Rosie says, "I've opened the door maybe five times now."
Paulie exclaims, "Hey! It's you!"
[tomb] DM asks, "What, just now? Or over the last few days?"
Clem asks, "What's that you say? The *quartz* may be an illusion?"
[tomb] Eolo says, "well, she had to run back eight times to the other door"
Paulie says, "I couldn't hear you yelling 'HEY THE DOOR'S OPEN GET BACK HERE BEFORE IT CLOSES' from the other side."
Paulie detects magic on the gems now.
DM says, "They are not magic"
Paulie asks (of Clem), "No, what made you think that?"
Clem asks, "Well, are we camping out for another night?"
Clem says, "If so I'll get started on tomorrow's spells."
[Crows-Nest] G2 asks, "in case they're were-diamonds?"
Rosie says, "Sounds good."
DM says, "Okey doke"
Paulie says, "Sure."
Paulie climbs into his Rope Trick Demi-Dimensional Space Thingy.
Clem asks, "Err, anyone got 100gp of diamond dust?"
Paulie says, "I think I know where I can get some quartz dust."
Clem says, "G'taar doesn't like quartz dust, sadly."
Clem says, "I'll just have to use Lesser Restoration again, then."
Crumbli says, "He might settle for rhinestone dust, though."
Paulie says, "I wonder how much each quartz piece is worth."
Paulie says, "If we can find someone who'll give us a silver for each one..."
DM asks, "OK, so you're resting for the night?"
Clem says, "Sounds like it."
Paulie says, "May as well."
Crumbli asks, ""And then?"
Clem says, "As soon as it's morning I'll heal you some more, first."
Rosie asks (of Clem), "Will you have an extra teleport tomorrow I can use to get to town and get some clothes? And maybe some better tools for Crumbli?"
Paulie says, "More Lesser Restoration, I presume."
DM says, "OK, Crumbli heals 7hp and gets a Con point back"
DM says, "which I guess gives her an additional 7hp"
Clem says (to Rosie), "I don't have that many!"
Clem casts Lesser Restoration.
Clem rolls 1d4: 1 | 1
Clem says, "Sheesh."
Clem says, "It's like G'taar is disappointed in us for some reason!"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "oh yeah, I forgot Rosie is still naked"
Ebezar says, "he mocks our cowardice"
[Crows-Nest] G2 says, "like getting totally duped by the tumb"
Clem says, "I can try that once more, I guess."
[Crows-Nest] G2 says, "tomb, even"
[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "that's how we check her constitution"
Clem rolls 1d4: 3 | 3
Paulie exclaims, "I'm no coward! I'm just greedy!"
DM says, "OK, full con"
Clem says, "I was going to memorise an anti-paralysis spell instead of that second one."
Clem asks, "So nobody get paralysed today, okay?"
Rosie asks, "Well, how about tomorrow?"
Paulie says (to Clem), "There go my plans for after lunch."
Clem asks, "Does anyone else want to take several days out, or do we soldier on?"
Clem says, "I vote for soldiering."
Paulie says, "There have to be some more gems in there somewhere."
Clem says, "I don't fancy hanging out here until like my next birthday."
Paulie says, "Finding them ought to be our top priority."
Clem says, "I still can't figure out what happened with those gems."
[tomb] Rosie says, "I'm not sure why everyone feels like there's a rush."
[tomb] Clem says, "Mimesis."
[tomb] Rosie says, "It's not like it takes more in-game time."
[tomb] DM says, "People play the game different ways"
[tomb] Rosie says, "I guess so."
[tomb] Clem says, "I foolishly only bought four days of food this time."
[tomb] Clem says, "But I guess that's enough to get back to town."
[tomb] Paulie says, "If you really want to wait, I won't fight."
[tomb] Rosie says, "(I'm not complaining; it's just an odd phenomenon)"
[tomb] Paulie says, "But, y'know."
Crumbli asks, "So that second one gets me back up to 12 CON?"
DM says, "Yep"
Clem says, "Let's go back inside!"
Rosie says, "Lead on, McGurk."
[Crows-Nest] DM says, "I guess it's partially a narrativism vs gamism thing"
Clem says, "On the way, I'll take the time to re-read the cryptic puzzle in the first corridor."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Also, the sooner we all die, the sooner the DM can explain to us what happened with the gems."
[Crows-Nest] Rosie says, "Hmm, could be."
Clem says, "Since I can't remember how it goes."
[tomb] Clem says, "Ha."
Paulie recasts mage armor at the appropriate time.
[Crows-Nest] DM says, "Like, from a gamism point of view, it was the right thing to do to roll a hundred attacks on the wheely mammoth even if only 5% of them did a point of damage"
[tomb] Paulie asks (of Clem), "http://www.henchmonkey.org/forum/discussion/43/ ?"
DM says, "All righty"
Clem says (to Rosie), "I'd lead on, except our marching order has both of us at the back."
DM asks, "and Barkskins?"
Crumbli says, "OK. Time to open that sarcophagus, I reckon."
[tomb] Clem says, "Aha, thanks."
Clem says, "Yeah."
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "Assuming it's actually to our benefit to have the wheely mammoth destroyed."
[Crows-Nest] Rosie says, "Yeah."
[Crows-Nest] G2 says, "hee hee wheely mammoth"
Paulie asks (of Crumbli), "What about the urn?"
DM says, "(not that either Barkskins or Mage Armor will be useful in that room)"
DM says, "and Ebezar will want to roll another False Life probably"
[tomb] Ebezar asks, "remind me: what all did we do with the gems and gargoyle?"
Ebezar rolls 1d10: 3 | 3
(From Paulie) DM says, "fool that he is"
[tomb] Rosie says, "I think we still have four gems left."
[tomb] Rosie says, "The gargoyle ground the rest to powder."
Clem says, "I bet there's something interesting about the statues, too."
Clem says, "Either that they kill us or, hmm, that's probably it."
Crumbli says, "They definitely do more than meets the viewer's eye."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "if we can't figure anything else out, I say we feed all of the gems to the gargoyle"
Clem asks, "They transform into vehicles?"
Crumbli says, "It's been suggested."
Paulie asks, "Like the mammoth?"
[tomb] Clem says, "Sure."
Paulie says, "Maybe one will open a secret passage."
[tomb] Clem asks, "So did we reach the room again?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Why not. Four gems seems like a pittance, now that we've seen thousands."
[tomb] Ebezar says (to Paulie), "right"
Crumbli says, "So, if we're back to the sarcophagus room again, I want to open the sarcophagus."
DM says, "I think people were talking about crushing some more gems"
Paulie asks (of Crumbli), "Before doing anything to the urn or the statues?"
Crumbli says, "Fine."
Rosie says, "Er, not yet, I think."
Clem checks to see if the sarcophagus and statues are flush with the floor, or if it looks like they're moveable.
DM says, "They all look potentially movable"
DM says, "Like, they're not attached to the floor"
Rosie asks (of Crumbli), "Can you check the south wall for secret doors?"
Paulie says, "Perhaps this is like the tomb of the ancient king, Socobahn."
Clem asks (of DM), "How many are small enough to fit through the door?"
Clem says, "If we just push them horizontally."
Paulie says, "And pushing the statues into a new position will... well, do something."
Crumbli asks, "Are yoy thinking we should get the statues out of the room before proceeding?"
DM says, "Well"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says (to Paulie), "ha ha"
DM says, "You could probably get them through the doors"
Clem says, "I think that's a possibility, yeah."
Paulie says (to Crumbli), "If we arrage them in the corridor, then they can more easily block off our route of egress."
DM says, "But not into the crawlspace you came through from the throne room"
Paulie asks, "Can we just smash the statues?"
Rosie examines the sarcophagus again to see what it is that previous looters might have removed.
Clem says, "I guess they could also wake up and start killin' as soon as they leave the room."
Crumbli asks, "They're made of iron. Can *you* smash them?"
Rosie says (to Paulie), "They are magical."
DM says, "There's some inlay pried out of it"
Paulie says (to Crumbli), "Well, no."
Rosie asks (of DM), "Like, a flat inlay? Any shape to it?"
Paulie says (to Crumbli), "I generally leave the smashing to others more qualified."
DM says, "Just some decorative stuff like in the picture"
Paulie says, "In fact, I've found it to be advantageous to travel with a specialist at smashing."
Clem says, "Okay, are we opening the sarcophagus first? That's my vote."
Paulie says, "I vote for disturbing the urn first."
Clem says, "It seems like that might just explode."
Paulie asks (of Clem), "Destroying the sarcophagus in the process, perhaps?"
Clem says, "Heh. Could be."
Clem says, "Okay, go for the urn, then."
Clem stands well back.
Paulie asks, "Is there an archer in the party?"
Clem says, "There was but the gargoyle killed him."
Grog holds up a bow.
Grog stands just outside the door. Paulie stands behind him.
Clem asks, "You want to shoot the urn from the door?"
Clem says, "Hmm, sure."
Clem says, "Or we could just hook a rope round it."
Paulie asks, "We could. Any reason to?"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "I forget--what in the room was magical? The statues, I know. The urn? The sarcophagus itself?"
Clem says, "Slightly less destructive, but go ahead and shoot, I guess."
[tomb] DM says, "That was it"
Ebezar joins those outside the door.
[tomb] Paulie asks, "When you fire a magical weapon into an antimagic field, do you get the bonuses?"
[tomb] Clem asks, "Can somebody try and determine the magic types?"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "that'd probably be me, assuming it's possible"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Ebezar can try. I rolled a natural 20 attempting it and still failed."
[tomb] Paulie says, "But that's because I have no time for boring things like 'reading books'."
Grog fires.
Grog rolls 1d20+10: 12+10 | 22
Grog rolls 1d6+4: 1+4 | 5
Clem is in marching order, i.e. waaaaay at the back.
DM asks, "So you fired an arrow at the urn?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Right. To hit, then damage."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Assuming the bow's +1 holds."
DM says, "You knock it over"
Crumbli asks, "Is it still smoking?"
DM says, "Yep"
[tomb] Paulie says, "No change? Huh."
Rosie enters and rights the urn again.
Clem says, "We could just open the thing."
Clem says, "I assume."
[tomb] Rosie asks, "It's apparantly fairly light?"
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, if there's anything in it it doesn't weigh much"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Light, but not so fragile as to crack when it's knocked over by an arrow."
[tomb] DM says, "It's made of bronze"
Rosie asks, "Shall I try carrying it out of the room?"
Ebezar says, "perhaps roll it gently this way"
Paulie says, "Sure."
Paulie says, "Careful not to breathe it in."
Paulie says, "It could do anything. Up to and including turning you naked."
Rosie says, "Uh-oh."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Dos the urn open any more than it is?"
Paulie says, "You could turn it over, see if anything falls out."
Rosie, assuming nothing happens in the interim, picks it up, carries it to the door, sets it down, and pushes it gently across the archway with her feet.
[tomb] DM says, "It has a brass stopper with a tiny vent in it, which is where the smoke is coming from"
[tomb] DM says, "and the stopper is sealed in there with gold"
DM says, "Okey doke"
Ebezar asks (of DM), "still nothing?"
DM says, "Still nothing"
Paulie says, "Maybe there's a djinni in the bottle."
Crumbli says, "If you're removing the stopper, I'm getting out of the way."
Paulie says, "Or a demi-lich."
Paulie says, "Or a pine-fresh air-freshening incense stick."
DM says, "Ha ha"
Paulie asks, "Pop the cork, says I. What's the worst that happens?"
Paulie asks, "We all die?"
Clem says, "Well, if it's a djinn, it might just kill the people who fired arrows at it and rolled it around."
Clem says, "Let's just pop it."
[tomb] Paulie says, "THat is making me laugh far more than it should."
Crumbli says, "Nah, the worst that could happen is that we wind up agonizing over the decision for the next four hours."
Clem says, "Heh, true."
Clem asks, "Who's opening it, then?"
Ebezar's voice calls from a ways away, "I think we should open it."
Paulie says, "I'll cast Resistance on whoever does it, unless they've got a cloak thereof."
Rosie will go ahead and open it, since she still has pretty good saves.
Clem says, "Both of those sound good, go for it."
DM asks, "So you're hanging out on the stairs or something?"
Rosie says, "I will take a Resistance, though."
Paulie casts it.
Ebezar says (to DM), "yeah"
Rosie exclaims, "Open sesame!"
Rosie pulls off the stopper.
DM says, "You're going to have to use a tool or something to pry that gold seal out"
Clem gets ready to try Raise Dead With Quartz.
DM says, "The stopper's in there pretty good"
Paulie hides behind Grog, as usual.
Rosie asks, "Anyone have a dagger or something?"
Paulie tosses one over.
Rosie carefully breaks the seal with the dagger.
[tomb] Paulie says, "Er. It may resemble something closer to a steel toothpick to one of you bigfolk, though."
Rosie is standing in the middle of the non-magic room.
Rosie then tries to pull out the stopper again, using the dagger as a lever.
DM says, "Rosie pulls the stopper out"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "and we are all sucked into the urn"
DM says, "Immediately a giant 12-foot creature of flame pops out"
[tomb] Clem asks, "Did we even check this for traps?"
[tomb] Clem says, "Oh whoops."
DM says, "and says I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU FUCKERS JUST FIRED ARROWS AT ME AND ROLLED ME AROUND"
[tomb] Paulie says, "This reminds me of the skeleton."
Clem says, "It's not a djinn, it's an efreet."
DM says, "Roll initiative"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "ha ha ha"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "ha ha ha"
Clem says, "I was right!!"
Rosie says, "Sorry, we didn't mean anything by it."
Clem says, "Crap!!!"
Paulie rolls 1d20+8: 13+8 | 21
Ebezar rolls 1d20+3: 4+3 | 7
Clem rolls 1d20: 13 | 13
[tomb] Rosie asks, "What's initiative? Dex?"
[Crows-Nest] G2 says, "Fiendish Darkmantle, meet Pottymouth Efreet"
Grog rolls 1d20+6: 20+6 | 26
Crumbli rolls 1d20+3: 6+3 | 9
[tomb] Eolo says, "yes"
DM says, "Someone needs to control Finn and Kong, btw"
Rosie rolls 1d20+4: 13+4 | 17
[tomb] Clem says, "I'll take one if someone can give me the URL for their sheets."
DM rolls 1d20+7: 9+7 | 16
[tomb] Paulie says, "I am almost tempted to attempt to Intimidate the thing."
[tomb] Clem says, "I guess it's probably linked from lucian's page."
[tomb] DM | http://strackenz.spod-central.org/~lpsmith/rpg/transcripts/tomb/
[tomb] Clem says, "I see http://roger.carbol.com/Finn.txt"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "pity I didn't prepare cone of cold today"
Clem asks, "I'll be Kong, somebody else want to take the other spellcaster?"
Clem rolls 1d20+2: 3+2 | 5
Clem says, "That's Kong, and boy, looks like I won't be too busy with him."
Ebezar says, "I'll take Finn"
Ebezar rolls 1d20: 11 | 11
DM says, "GROG Paulie Rosie Efreet Clem Finn Crumbli Ebezar Kong"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "or sleet storm for Finn"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Assuming that he's within full-attack range..."
[tomb] Clem says, "Hmm, Resist Energy might be useful but it only helps one person."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Actually, Grog lets Paulie act first."
DM says, "(Grog) PAULIE Rosie Efreet Clem Finn Crumbli Ebezar Kong"
[tomb] Rosie says, "I'd take it, since my weapons are my hands and stuff. Which presumably means I'm taking lots of fire damage."
Paulie hastes himself, Grog, Rosie, Crumbli, Clem, and Kong.
[tomb] Rosie says, "OK, he's in the middle of the room, so Grog should move to flank him with me on the other side."
[tomb] Clem asks, "So are we just fighting, or does it make any sense to reason with it?"
Paulie then uses his movement to make sure he's not within five-foot-step range of the monster.
DM says, "OK"
DM says, "Let's see if we can manage this without moving miniatures around"
DM asks, "Does Grog want to go now?"
Grog rages and attacks, because he's that kind of orc.
[tomb] Clem says, "Fighting, then."
DM says, "Paulie GROG Rosie Efreet Clem Finn Crumbli Ebezar Kong"
[tomb] DM says (to Clem), "The best defense is a good offense"
Grog rolls 1d20+16: 17+16 | 33
DM says, "That'sa hit"
Grog rolls 1d12+8: 2+8 | 10
Grog continues attacking.
Grog rolls 1d20+11: 1+11 | 12
DM says, "What, no damage resistance? This monster sucks"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Sorry, I have to work all this out again with no-stuff stats. Haste is one extra atttack, at plus one, and a +1 AC?"
DM says, "Grog *whoosh*"
Grog also uses his final hasty attack.
Grog rolls 1d20+16: 11+16 | 27
DM says, "Another hit"
[tomb] Eolo says, "yep"
Grog rolls 1d20+11: 5+11 | 16
[tomb] Eolo says, "and +1 reflex save"
DM says, "and a miss"
Grog exclaims, "Grog like play with fire!"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "And flanking is +2?"
[tomb] Clem asks, "Wait, did Grog charge into the no-magic zone?"
DM says, "Roll damage"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Whoops, that last one was a misrolled damage."
[tomb] Eolo says (to Rosie), "yep"
Grog rolls 1d12+8: 12+8 | 20
[tomb] DM says, "AHa"
[tomb] Rosie says, "We're fighting not in the sarcophagus room."
(From DM) Efreet RAR
[tomb] Clem says, "Wow, that's some damage."
[tomb] DM says (to Clem), "You're on the steps outside"
DM says, "Paulie Grog ROSIE Efreet Clem Finn Crumbli Ebezar Kong"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Mmm, d12+8 is much nicer damage than d20+11. I gotta remember that."
[tomb] nothing_else says (to Clem), "Somebody pushed the urn across the threshhold, then Rosie said she was in the middle of the non-anti-magic room when she opened it (though never explicitly mentioned moving the urn, I think)"
Rosie explodes in a flurry of kicks and punches. While naked. Attacking a creature made of fire. But hey.
[tomb] Clem says, "Oh, the *non* anti magic room."
Rosie rolls 1d20+14: 6+14 | 20
DM says, "That kick hits"
Rosie rolls 1d10+2: 5+2 | 7
Rosie rolls 1d20+14: 3+14 | 17
[tomb] Ebezar asks, "wait, are we fighting in the anti-magic room?"
[tomb] DM says, "No"
[tomb] Rosie says, "(2nd attack)"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "ok, thanks"
DM says, "That misses"
Rosie rolls 1d20+14: 12+14 | 26
Rosie rolls 1d10+2: 4+2 | 6
Rosie rolls 1d20+6: 19+6 | 25
Rosie rolls 1d10+2: 2+2 | 4
[tomb] Rosie says, "So, three hits, 17 damage."
DM says, "Kick punch smash"
DM says, "Paulie Grog Rosie EFREET Clem Finn Crumbli Ebezar Kong"
[tomb] Rosie says, "(oops, that should have been a +8 for the last attack, but it hit anyway, so hey)"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Wait, he gets a turn too?"
[tomb] Rosie says, "(er, +9)"
DM says, "The efreet looks around at the huge group of you"
DM says, "two of which have just dealt him some serious damage"
DM says, "He folds his arms, says 'FUCKERS!!', and disappears"
Clem says, "Charming."
[Crows-Nest] G2 says, "what a pussy"
Ebezar yells (from up the stairs), "and don't come back!"
DM says, "Ha ha"
Rosie says, "Well, hey."
Clem says, "Well, there goes one possible source of help."
Rosie shakes the soot off her hands.
Clem says, "And third-degree burns."
Paulie asks (of Clem), "Aren't efreets generally evil?"
Clem says, "This is the first time I've met one!"
DM says (to Paulie), "but lawful!"
Paulie asks, "And, y'know, not that helpful?"
Ebezar says, "I believe they are lawful fuckers"
Rosie says, "Well, hey, gold stopper."
Clem says, "GOLD"
DM says, "The stopper was just brass"
Rosie says, "Er, seal."
DM says, "The seal that you just ruined was gold"
Clem asks, "Okay, sarcophagus now?"
Clem asks, "Or statues?"
Rosie says, "Sure, maybe even while haste is still on."
Paulie says, "Sarcophagus."
Crumbli says, "It's entirely possible that he hates Acererak, and only now hates us more."
Clem asks, "Grog, help me open this thing?"
Rosie asks, "Can we move the sarcophagus?"
Grog helps.
Ebezar says, "We should smash his urn."
Ebezar says, "That'll teach him."
Rosie asks, "Did we check for traps?"
DM says, "You can barely even move the lid"
Rosie says, "(on the sarcophagus)"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Uh, by the way..."
DM says, "I guess if Clem and Grog are trying together, that's an aided strength check"
[tomb] Rosie says, "(afk a minute or two)"
Clem says, "If you want to check for traps, do it right now."
Crumbli says, "I already did."
Clem says, "Then I'll help Grog open it."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Is there anyone here who has the appropriate knowledge skills to realize that efreets get invisiblity as a spell-like ability, but not teleportation?"
[tomb] Eolo says, "ha ha"
[tomb] Clem says, "Heh."
[tomb] Clem says, "I'm sure we'll figure it out when he starts burninating us."
Grog rolls 1d20+5: 3+5 | 8
[tomb] Clem says, "But I'd guess he just used it to escape."
[tomb] Clem says, "Since we were kicking his fiery arse."
Clem asks, "I roll strength too?"
Clem rolls 1d20+2: 7+2 | 9
[tomb] Ebezar says, "if need be, I can roll knowledge (planes) to see if I know"
DM says, "I think Clem just adds 2 to Grog's roll"
DM says, "which means, not enough to move the lid"
DM says, "Oh, Clem has to roll 10 to add 2 to Grog's roll"
DM | http://d20srd.org/srd/skills/usingSkills.htm#aidAnother
Clem says, "Sorry! But you weren't trying very hard either."
Grog says, "Heavy lid."
Grog rolls 1d20+5: 10+5 | 15
Clem rolls 1d20+2: 17+2 | 19
Clem says, "GRRRRNNMFNR"
DM says, "Panting heavily, Grog and Clem together barely manage to shove the lid aside"
DM says, "It is almost empty"
Grog exclaims, "Box open!"
[tomb] Clem says, "'almost'"
Crumbli asks, "So: Stairs leading down or undead monster?"
[Crows-Nest] G2 says, "roll Endurance against Sudden Aneurysm"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Almost the whole corpse is gone, leaving just a gigantic skull?"
DM says, "A few bones, some old jewelry with the gems pried out, a shattered skull, torn bits of robes, a broken staff, lots of dust"
Clem says, "Huh."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Also, more magic detection might be wise."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Before we go touching more corpse-stuff."
Ebezar says, "Let's not go touching that just yet."
Crumbli asks, "Hey, you know how all the valuable-looking stuff turned out to be worthless when removed from the tomb?"
Ebezar exclaims, "WAND OF DETECT MAGIC!"
Ebezar says, "*vrrm*"
Paulie asks, "So who sold us a used dungeon?"
Crumbli says, "Maybe the worthless-looking stuff will turn to gold."
Clem says (to Paulie), "I think it only had a one-week guarantee."
Rosie lifts ebezar up from the magic-enabled room so he can see down into the sarcophagus across the way.
Clem says, "Clever."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Will Shape Stone or whichever spell we ahve allow us to tunnel through the wall pantsward?"
DM says, "You can't get a sightline that way"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Seeing as we're actually getting kinda close."
[tomb] Clem says, "Hmm, through the anti-magic room? Seems unlikely"
Ebezar says, "Mrf."
[tomb] Paulie says, "I suppose that if the lid's that heavy, lifting the whole thing's out of the question."
[tomb] Crumbli says, "You can dig with it, sure, but very slowly."
Grog tries to push the sarcophagus toward the door for Clem.
[tomb] DM says (to Paulie), "Yeah, no chance"
Grog rolls 1d20+5: 20+5 | 25
Clem rolls 1d20+2: 19+2 | 21
Clem says, "WE STRONG"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "you guys were able to detect magic from within the room earlier, you realize"
DM says, "Even with that the sarcophagus barely moves"
[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "oh yeah"
[Crows-Nest] Paulie asks, "From within, not from the doorway?"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "oh, wait, maybe Paulie was -- right"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "sorry, my mistake"
Crumbli says, "I climb into the sarcophagus."
[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "blrf"
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "Paulie hasn't actually entered the room yet."
DM says, "Mmm, comfy"
Clem asks, "Did it actually move? Anything underneath?"
Rosie asks (of Ebezar), "Can you see yet?"
DM says, "It basically did not move"
Clem asks (of Grog), "Want to try these statues?"
Crumbli asks, "WHAT DO THE IRON MEN OF VISAGE GRIM DO???"
Rosie says (to Crumbli), "Well, if you've already touched the stuff in there, hold it up for Ebezar."
Grog says, "Rarr. Grog like hitting firemen more than pushing and lifting."
Grog says, "But Grog push if Grog have to push."
[tomb] Rosie says, "(afk a bit again)"
Clem says, "Let's start with the NE, that might be 'left and left' from the door."
Crumbli says, "OK. A hand clutching some old jewelry pokes out the the sarcophagus."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "ha ha"
Clem rolls 1d20+2: 9+2 | 11
Crumbli says, "Followed by a second hand gripping pieces of a shattered skull."
[tomb] (from Paulie) DM says, "Followed by a third hand holding Crumbli's still-beating heart."
[tomb] Clem says, "Still beating? That's fine, just a Cure Supercritical rather than a Raise Dead."
Ebezar says, "*vrrm*"
[tomb] DM says, "Ha ha ha"
DM says, "Neither the jewelry nor the skull seems magical"
[tomb] Clem says, "Assuming it tosses the heart out here."
Clem asks (of Grog), "Help me push?"
Crumbli says, "I hop out and inspect the SE statue closely."
Grog rolls 1d20+5: 1+5 | 6
Clem says, "Push, the statue, not me!"
DM says (to Crumbli), "It's really scary!"
Grog pushes. Slightly.
Clem says, "Let's try that again."
Clem rolls 1d20+2: 18+2 | 20
DM says, "The statue didn't move that time, yeah"
Grog rolls 1d20+5: 6+5 | 11
DM says, "It still doesn't move"
Grog says, "Urgh."
Clem says, "Hrm, heavy."
Clem asks, "Getting anywhere with the sarcophagus loot?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "So, I guess we know touching them doesn't do anything."
[tomb] DM says, "HEh"
[tomb] Paulie says, "(Visible.)"
Clem says, "Let's take some of that crap out of this room, in case there's some funny illusion effect here."
Crumbli says, "OK, I grab the staff and jewelry and remove it from the room and look at it again."
Clem says, "I certainly don't believe this is really Acererak."
Grog just keeps pushing, since there's no good reason not to.
Grog rolls 1d20+5: 20+5 | 25
Crumbli says, "Maybe the dust is valuable. Like, it's Dust of Tracelessness or something."
Clem rolls 1d20+2: 18+2 | 20
[tomb] Rosie says, "(back)"
DM says, "Well, first of all, Ebezar's Detect Magic goes off when you take the staff out of the sarcophagus"
DM says, "The broken staff, that is"
Crumbli says, "Oho."
Ebezar says, "*vrrm vrrm DING DING DING*"
Clem says, "Interesting."
DM says, "Also, Clem and Grog push the northeast statue a good ten feet"
Ebezar rolls 1d20+12: 12+12 | 24
Clem says, "(grunt push)"
Crumbli asks, "Make Whole, anyone?"
Clem says, "YAY"
[tomb] Ebezar says (to DM), "that 24 is my spellcraft roll"
Clem says (to Crumbli), "We'd have to take it out of this room first."
DM says, "Holy crap it's a Staff of the Magi"
DM says, "Or was before it broke"
Clem says, "And I'm not sure I want to do that with a broken magic staff."
Rosie asks, "Can you mend magical staves?"
Paulie asks, "Anything else in that box?"
Ebezar says, "pardon me, I seem to have gotten some drool on my robes."
Clem checks whether there was anything under the statue.
DM says (to Clem), "Nope"
[tomb] Paulie says, "If removing the staff from the AM field sets off the broken-staff contingency magics, then that might be a way to defeat Ace."
Clem says, "Hmm, not sure I fancy trying to push the others just on the off-chance."
Rosie carts a 'gem' out of the room to see if it turns to quartz when you take it ou of the room immediately, or if it takes taking it out of the tomb.
DM asks, "What 'gem'?"
[tomb] Clem says, "Interesting."
[tomb] Rosie says, "I assumed that after we got one cartload out, we didn't bother with the other four trips."
[tomb] Clem says, "So there are broken-staff side-effects? I thought I remembered that."
[tomb] DM says, "Aha"
[tomb] Clem says, "I assume it's something pretty bad for a Staff of the Magi."
[tomb] Clem says (to Rosie), "I teleported all four sacks at once."
DM says (to Rosie), "It still seems to be a gem when you're out on the stairs"
[tomb] DM says (to Clem), "It was going to take four trips"
[tomb] Eolo says, "http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/artifacts.htm#staffoftheMagi is the description -- I guess if Ebezar recognizes it you can read it"
[tomb] Paulie | All charges in the staff are released in a 30-foot spread. All within 10 feet of the broken staff take hit points of damage equal to 8 times the number of charges in the staff, those between 11 feet and 20 feet away take points equal to 6 times the number of charges, and those 21 feet to 30 feet distant take 4 times the number of charges. A DC 17 Reflex save reduces damage by half.
[tomb] Eolo says, "Also | The character breaking the staff has a 50% chance (01-50 on d%) of traveling to another plane of existence, but if she does not (51-100), the explosive release of spell energy destroys her."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "there is a little sticker on the bottom of the staff reading "WARNING: NOT TO BE TAKEN INTERNALLY""
Clem asks, "Well, anyone have any bright ideas?"
Clem asks, "Is it worth pushing these other statues?"
Paulie asks, "The other left one?"
Grog pushes the other left one.
Grog rolls 1d20+5: 9+5 | 14
Clem says, "We could even push them outside to see if they wake up or something."
DM asks, "The southeast one?"
Clem asks, "Can we take 20 on these push rolls?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Yeah."
DM says, "That's a good question"
Crumbli asks, "Are the weapons in the statues' hands detachable?"
DM says (to Crumbli), "Nope"
Rosie says, "At one point, I assumed that trying to take the weapons would wake them up."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Do they have sockets in their hands (or elsewhere) for gems?"
[tomb] DM says, "Nope"
Clem rolls 1d20+2: 12+2 | 14
[Crows-Nest] Rosie asks, "Are their hands in their pockets and their pockets in their pants?"
Clem says, "Grunt sigh ow."
DM says, "I think you can basically take 20 on pushing them"
DM says, "Also other people could help if they wanted"
Rosie asks (of statue), "Hello! Are you awake? Can you tell us how to get to a tomb around here?"
Clem says, "'More than meets the viewer's eye.'"
Clem says, "Nope, still no idea what that means. Let's just push the things."
Rosie stares one down.
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Nothing on the statue's back, right?"
[tomb] DM says, "Besides armor, no"
[Crows-Nest] (from Eolo) statue says (to Rosie) "Viiiiggoooo"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Unremovable armor?"
[tomb] DM says, "Right"
[tomb] DM says, "I mean, it's all a statue"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "I'm still sad about the staff of the magi"
[Crows-Nest] Rosie asks, "Oh, all carved from the same stuff?"
[Crows-Nest] Rosie says, "ilac, but still."
[Crows-Nest] DM says, "Yeah"
Grog takes 20 pushing another statue.
DM asks, "The southeast one?"
Clem takes 20 helping, if it matters.
Grog needs to get his workouts in somehow. There isn't nearly enough stuff to hit.
Rosie says, "Let's try pushing the northeast one out of the room."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Yeah, SE."
Clem says, "I want to look under them all first."
Clem says, "Then let's try taking one out."
Rosie says, "OK, sure."
Rosie helps push.
DM says, "You eventually manage to push the southeast one a few feet"
[tomb] Paulie says, "We could try moving them all left one space."
[tomb] G2 says, "it's just a push to the left"
[tomb] Paulie says, "I.e. put the SW one in the SE corner, etc."
[tomb] Clem says, "Heh."
[tomb] G2 says, "and then... a push to the right"
[tomb] Clem asks, "Hmm, you think it's likely to be as complicated as that?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "I dunno. I'm just thinking about moving them 'left'."
[Crows-Nest] Rosie exclaims, "It's the grog workout! To the left! To the left! To the right! To the right! Now rage!"
[tomb] Clem says, "The clues have seemed reasonably straightforward so far."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Which could mean counterclockwise."
[tomb] Clem says, "Although my idea of looking under the NE one didn't work, I guess."
[tomb] Crumbli says, "Maybe if we push them in a line from shortest to tallest we'll be able to jump from the sarchophagus to statue to statue until we can reach the secret area and get a bonus item."
[tomb] Rosie says, "The clues have all been straightforward *after the fact*."
[tomb] Rosie says, "Hee"
[tomb] G2 says, "ha ha"
[tomb] Clem says, "There was that thing with the levers that somebody figured out quickly."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Wasn't it just supposed to be 'pull all the levers', though?"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "the problem here is that I can no longer think like my 12-year-old all-in-love-with-D&D self"
Clem decides to finish pushing the others, for the sake of completion.
DM asks, "Which one next?"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Which I think we solved by formulating a complicated sequence of a subset of the levers, and then following up with the rest of them when that failed?"
Clem says, "SW."
[tomb] Rosie says, "Yeah."
DM says, "Grunt grunt grunt shove"
[tomb] Clem says, "Well, we tried the complicated idea of pushing one statues, now let's try 'em all."
DM says, "You push the southwest statue a few feet"
DM says, "admiring its glaive"
[tomb] Clem says, "But if anyone else has any ideas please speak up."
[tomb] Clem says, "I guess pushing the statue outside is next."
Grog asks, "What that thing called?"
Grog says, "Grog like axe better."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "back before its extreme makeover the statue had a bec de corbin"
Rosie asks (of Grog), "What thing?"
Clem asks, "Oh, I guess you never went to warrior school?"
Clem says, "It's called a big pointy axe thing."
[Crows-Nest] DM says, "Ha ha"
[Crows-Nest] G2 says, "Undead Eye for the Metal Statue"
Clem says, "Or a point-axe, as my teacher called it."
DM asks, "Last one, or are you moving on?"
Rosie exclaims, "Last one!"
Clem says, "LAST ONE"
Grog exclaims, "LAST ONE!"
Rosie says, "Let it not be said that we aren't thorough."
Grog asks, "Why we yelling last one?"
Ebezar says, "phew, last one"
Grog push push push.
DM says, "Man, these are not getting any easier"
DM says, "But eventually after great effort you manage to push the northeast statue a few feet"
Clem says, "My poor biceps."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "How many statues do we need to push to level up?"
DM says, "revealing a pull ring in the floor"
Clem says, "AW YEAH"
Rosie laughs and laughs.
Clem says, "Vindicated! Except for having to push those three other buggers first."
[tomb] Rosie says, "This is one of those things where it's coded so it's always the last one."
[tomb] Clem says, "Hee hee."
[tomb] Paulie says, "For some reason, I thought we started with the NE one."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says (to Paulie), "well, you're due for a strength exercise the next time it's checked"
[tomb] Crumbli says, "Yeah, that's what I thought too."
[tomb] Clem says, "Wait, we did."
[tomb] DM says, "Oh, you did"
[tomb] Clem says, "'left and left' from the door."
[tomb] DM says, "Sorry"
[tomb] G2 says, "that's what I said"
DM says, "The northwest one, I meant"
[tomb] G2 says, "elsewhere"
Rosie says, "Hey, this is the one that's nearest our stuff."
DM says, "had the ring underneath"
Ebezar says, "If those had just come alive and attacked us, we would have found that pull ring much soone"
[tomb] (from Clem) Grog says, "Hey, look, a pull ring under the statue we push first! Sixty rounds ago!"
[tomb] Crumbli asks, "Northwest makes more sense. Isn't that roughly pantsward?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Yeah."
Rosie asks (of Crumbli), "Care to check for traps?"
Crumbli exclaims, "I search the vicinity of the ring for traps!"
[tomb] Clem says, "Hmm, yeah, in hindsight."
Paulie says (to Ebezar), "And Clem and Grog might be less tired."
Crumbli exclaims, "Taking twenty!"
Clem takes five.
Crumbli exclaims, "For 33!!!"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Yeah, but we were following the *other* clue."
DM says, "The pull ring appears not to be trapped!!"
Crumbli says, "OK, I pull it."
[tomb] Paulie says, "*Now* the statues come to life."
Rosie steps out of the room during pulling.
DM says, "It reveals a shaft leading downwards"
Rosie peeks back in.
Crumbli says, "I proceed down, torch in hand."
DM says, "Just ten feet down to a corridor heading west"
Crumbli exclaims, "West! That's the right direction!"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Also, it occurs to me that Ace is a bit schizophrenic about all of this."
[tomb] Clem says, "*Now* the statues will come to life."
Clem checks whether his Light spell works in here.
DM says, "You drop down to the corridor, which heads 20 feet to the west and then turns to the north"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Why does he leave all these clues telling us how to get through the dungeon right by the entrance, and then leave all these decoys around to trick us into leaving again?"
DM says (to Clem), "It does"
[tomb] Clem says, "Man, I just noticed Paulie typed the same thing as me a minute ago."
Paulie hurries through into the shaft, then.
Rosie says, "Wait, check the south wall at the corner, here."
Rosie says, "That should be pantward."
Clem says, "Okay, I guess if we meet a horrible monster we can retreat, then fling the broken staff at it."
[tomb] Crumbli says, "Because he is Mad. Mad, I tell you."
Paulie says, "I wonder if being inside the anti-magic room will protect you from the blast. Assuming there is a blast."
Crumbli says, "OK, I do as Rosie suggests."
[tomb] Rosie asks, "The last time we cast locate object, was it on our level, or was it down a bit?"
[tomb] Clem says, "It's weird that the staff does a fixed amount of damage rather than rolling dice."
Crumbli says, "And search the south wall at the corner, taking twenty for 33."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Down, IIRC."
[tomb] Clem says, "Yeah, down."
[tomb] Rosie says, "Excellent."
DM says, "You find a small keyhole in the middle of the wall"
Clem says, "!"
Rosie exclaims, "Aha!"
Clem asks, "Should we investigate northwards first?"
Rosie asks, "And leave our stuff behind?"
Clem says, "I don't trust the keyholes around here."
Rosie exclaims, "I want my stuff back!"
Rosie says, "We have a couple keys."
Clem asks, "Oh, hmm, you reckon the big bad could be north?"
Rosie asks (of Crumbli), "Traps?"
Clem says, "Could be."
Clem says, "In that case, sure."
Crumbli says, "Let's try the keys."
Clem says, "Go for it."
Crumbli says, "The rest of you back off a ways, like usual with doors."
Clem lets you try the keys.
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Which direction was pantsward, the south keyhole or the north passage?"
[tomb] Rosie says, "South keyhole."
Crumbli says, "OK. I try the slime key."
Paulie backs off, knowing full well that the spears will somehow magically get to the whole party no matter how far away they hide.
DM says, "The south wall sinks into the ground"
Crumbli says, "Nice."
Clem says, "Man we're good."
Rosie exclaims, "Sweet!"
Clem says, "Belatedly, at least."
Crumbli says, "Thank you Rosie for suggesting this."
DM says, "Revealing a 10 foot wide by 20 feet deep rome with a 25-foot arched ceiling"
DM says, "Uh, room"
Crumbli asks, "Anthing in this room?"
Crumbli asks, "A basilica, perhaps?"
Clem says, "Heh."
Paulie says, "You know, I'm surprised that none of the other parties who got far enough to loot the anti-magic room had found the slime key."
DM says, "Ah, there's a small square depression in the very middle of the floor"
DM says, "But otherwise it's empty"
Clem says, "That looting was totally fake."
Clem says, "I think we were just meant to think that that was Acererak's tomb."
Paulie asks (of Clem), "And the corpses?"
Crumbli asks, "OK. Do we have anything square that would fit this depression?"
Clem says, "Since we had no reason to suspect he was sneaky or anything."
Clem asks, "I'm lawful good, does that count?"
DM says, "Well, looking at it more closely, you see there's a keyhole in it"
Paulie says (to Clem), "I was figuring that *everyone* was meant to think it was his tomb, and that maybe we were the first ones bright enough to figure out it wasn't."
Crumbli says, "Bronze key! The rest of you wait outside."
Paulie says, "Or the first ones stupid enough to press on after realizing it wasn't."
Rosie waits.
Clem says (to Paulie), "I don't think I believe any theory that counts on us being smarter than average."
Clem says (to Paulie), "Now that theory, sure."
Clem backs off too.
Paulie says (to Clem), "Not brighter than the average person. Just brighter than the average person *to enter the Tomb of Horrors voluntarily*."
Paulie remains backed off.
Ebezar waits back with Paulie.
Crumbli says, "I am trying the bronze key in the keyhole in the depression."
[tomb] Clem says, "I guess we are brighter than whoever it was who died of hunger in that one room rather than risk dashing through the swords."
[tomb] Clem says, "Stupidly braver, at least."
DM says, "The bronze key fits the lock"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Oh, right--did the ioun stone, etc. wake up again out of the sarcophagus room?"
[tomb] DM says, "Yes"
[tomb] Clem says, "Yes."
[tomb] Rosie says, "Thanks."
Crumbli says, "3tomb No, refraining from dashing through the swords sounds smart to me."
DM says, "You turn it but nothing happens"
Crumbli says, "Hm."
[tomb] Paulie says, "I'm just glad that the field doesn't affect haversacks."
[tomb] Ebezar says (to Paulie), "so you are suggesting some pre-selection in there"
Crumbli asks, "Does the slime key fit?"
Rosie asks, "Push?"
Rosie asks, "Or pull?"
DM says, "When you insert the slime key it explodes"
DM says, "Roll a reflex save"
Clem says, "Yow."
Rosie says, "Ack"
Crumbli rolls 1d20+8: 20+8 | 28
Crumbli says, "Is this a trap? I get 2 more if it's a trap."
DM says, "Woo, half damage"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Nice save."
Clem asks, "Twitchy, are we?"
DM rolls 10d6: 4 4 2 1 2 6 3 3 4 4 | 33
Crumbli says, "Half? I have evasion."
DM rolls 0d6: 6 | 6
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "ha ha"
DM says, "Crumbli evades the fireball entirely!"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "whoops"
Clem watches as 20d6 of esplodification whooshes past Crumbli's head.
Ebezar perks up. "Fireball?"
Clem asks (of Ebezar), "Hey, your fireballs do 9d6 damage, right? What kind of spellcaster would be able to cast a 20d6 fireball?"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "ha ha more"
DM says, "It was a 10d6 fireball, I was going to halve it afterwards"
DM says, "as uh I guess Ebezar can tell with his Spellcraft"
Rosie peers at her map again, estimating distances. "Hmm, try the east wall here when you've turned the key."
Clem asks, "Huh, so that means Acererak is barely as firebally as Ebezar?"
Finn has arrived.
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "fireball is capped at 10d6 in 3e"
[tomb] Finn says, "Ack; sorry everyone."
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "Hee."
Crumbli says, "OK, I put the bronze key back in the keyhole, assuming it's intact."
[tomb] Clem says, "We're getting close! We think."
[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "ha, look at that"
DM says, "All righty"
[tomb] Rosie says, "We're pretty close to our stuff."
[tomb] Finn says, "Sweet."
[tomb] Clem says, "We went down a level, found a secret door and another trapdoor we're trying to open now."
[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "guess I can stop advancing after I reach 10th level"
[tomb] Paulie says, "We also found a chest full of thousands of valuable gems."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo asks, "don't you want to get high enough level to cast delayed blast fireball?"
[tomb] (from DM) Paulie says, "As long as we spend it inside the tomb"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo asks, "or to be able to memorize a maximized empowered fireball?"
Crumbli says, "And search the east wall, as Rosie suggests, taking 20."
[Crows-Nest] DM says, "Hee hee hee"
[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "oh, good point"
DM asks, "OK, you're just leaving the key in the keyhole as you do that?"
Crumbli says, "Yes."
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "You know, some wizards like to search for the ultimate secrets of reality."
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Not just the ultimate fireball."
[Crows-Nest] Rosie says, "Stupid wizards."
[Crows-Nest] (from DM) Ebezar looks blankly at Clem.
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "Big Bang (level 9 evocation)"
DM says, "Nothing turns up"
Crumbli says, "20 feet of wall, I guess that's 8 minutes."
Crumbli asks, "How big is the square depression?"
DM says, "Say 3 inches on a side"
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says (to Clem), "Some might say that's like claiming 'some wizards like to drink wine, not just fermented grape juice'."
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Heh."
Rosie says (to Crumbli), "Can you try pushing down on the depression when the key is turned? Or I can."
Crumbli says, "I will do as Rosie suggests."
Finn asks, "The other end of the sceptre, perhaps?"
DM says, "The depression is just part of the floor - pushing it doesn't do anything"
Paulie asks, "How deep is it?"
DM says, "Like half an inch"
Paulie says, "Maybe fill it with water."
[tomb] Clem says (to Finn), "Belatedly, when I say we went down a level, I was referring to the dungeon level, rather than another undead encounter."
[tomb] Clem says, "In case you were wondering."
[tomb] nothing_else says, "yay"
[tomb] Eolo says, "hee hee"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "ha"
Crumbli says, "I pull on the key while it's turned halfway, in the hope of pulling up a floor slab or something."
[tomb] Paulie says, "So we've passed the iron men, but I guess we're still looking for left and left."
[tomb] Clem asks, "Is that likely to mean the secret door?"
DM says, "I guess you unturned it back when you took it out the first time"
[tomb] Clem says, "Or maybe turn the key left."
[tomb] Paulie says, "The secret door was left, I guess."
[tomb] Clem says, "Since the DM is being pedantic about the turning."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Since it was south as we went west."
[tomb] Clem says, "Hmm, yeah."
DM says, "Anyway, nothing happens"
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, when was the last time I was ever pedantic"
[tomb] Paulie says, "So we might expect another secret door to the east."
Crumbli asks, "Any ideas here?"
[tomb] Paulie exclaims, "Oooh, he's defensive now! We must be onto something!"
Clem asks, "Well, the slime key made the fireball?"
Crumbli says, "Yes"
Clem says, "And it also opened the secret door? It seems unlike that key will be needed again."
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, when was the last time I was ever defensive"
Clem asks, "Did you try the bronze key?"
Crumbli says, "Yes"
DM says, "That's what he's trying now"
Crumbli says, "It fits, it turns, it doesn't do anything."
Clem asks, "And it didn't make a fireball?"
Clem says, "That's interesting but not in a way that gives me any kind of clue."
Crumbli says, "I turn it in the opposite direction."
Clem says, "Hmm, good idea."
Crumbli says, "I turn it with my left hand."
DM asks, "Uh, which way is opposite?"
[tomb] Clem asks, "I'm pretty sure we checked all the keys for magic, right?"
DM asks, "Counterclockwise?"
Crumbli says, "Whichever way I didn't turn it the first time."
[tomb] Clem says, "So it's not the key, it's the lock that's making the fireball."
DM says, "OK, let's say it was clockwise the first time"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Didn't one of them even require a save on contact?"
[tomb] Clem asks, "Hmm, yeah, which was that?"
DM says, "Anyway, you turn it counterclockwise, which you can also do, but nothing happens"
[tomb] Paulie says, "The one on the steps."
Crumbli says, "OK."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Leading to the bleeding doors."
Crumbli says, "I invert and telephone."
DM says, "Uh"
Clem says, "Turn it left twice? I guess that's counterclockwise."
Crumbli says, "But back to the game."
Paulie asks, "Does it turn all the way around?"
Paulie asks, "360 degrees?"
Paulie says, "If so, yeah, 720 degrees or more counterclockwise seems worth trying."
Crumbli says, "I think we're on the wrong track here."
[Crows-Nest] nothing_else asks, "'invert and telephone'?"
DM says, "You were able to turn 360 degrees in either direction, and could have turned it even farther if you wanted"
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Sounds like an MIT reference somehow."
[Crows-Nest] Clem asks, "Is it from GC or something?"
Paulie says (to Crumbli), "C'mon, just spin it around a few times."
Rosie asks, "Two full left rotations?"
Paulie says, "Can't hurt. Unless it unleashes another fireball."
[Crows-Nest] nothing_else says, "I'm pretty sure it's the name of a song I recorded with somebody 20-ish years ago (that he named); I hadn't realized then that it was a reference"
Clem says, "We'll raise from the dead, don't worry."
Crumbli says, "OK, I spin the key three times clockwise, then counterclockwise."
[tomb] Finn asks, "So, this is an empty room, with a depression and a keyhole in the middle of the wall, or something?"
Clem says, "Quartz is totally your colour."
[tomb] Crumbli says, "In the floor."
[tomb] Rosie says, "In the middle of the floor, but yes."
DM says, "As you finish the third clockwise turn, the floor trembles"
Paulie asks, "See?"
DM says, "1"
[tomb] Clem says, "There was a trapdoor under one of the statues."
DM says, "2"
Crumbli says, "Whoa."
Rosie exclaims, "Get out of the room!"
Crumbli says, "I get out."
DM says, "3"
Paulie did not enter the room.
DM says, "4"
[tomb] Clem says, "Passage leading west and then north, secret door in the south wall (which we checked based on the previous Locate Objects)."
DM says, "5"
Rosie retreats to the anti-magic room.
Clem backs off too.
DM says, "Everyone but Rosie gets to see the following"
Paulie follows Rosie, who seems wise.
[tomb] Clem says, "And behind that, this room."
DM says, "The last 15 feet of floor rises up to the ceiling"
DM says, "(including where the keyhole was)"
DM says, "revealing a new room"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Including the bit Crumbli was standing on?"
[tomb] DM says, "Yep"
[tomb] Clem says, "*was*, thankfully."
[tomb] DM says, "But she got out in time"
Crumbli says, "OK! New room! I get in there before it sinks back down."
DM | http://hamesucken.com/tomb/33.jpg
DM says, "The first thing you notice is your pants"
Crumbli says, "I remember this happening in Myst."
Crumbli exclaims, "Woo!"
[tomb] Finn exclaims, "Hurray! We've achieved pants!"
Paulie heads back down.
DM says, "in addition to everyone else's stuff, and some more treasure besides"
Clem says, "PANTS!!!"
Clem says, "And hey, treasure."
DM says, "A pile of gems, coins, vials, scrolls, and other items lies immediately inside the door of this mithral vault, but against the rune-scribed far wall is a stone bier. On the bier is a thick layer of dust mixed with bone shards and a gem-encrusted skull."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "we got pants sign"
Rosie returns!
[tomb] Rosie says, "(but doesn't enter the room yet)"
[tomb] Finn says, "Uh oh"
[tomb] Paulie says, "I smell Acererak."
[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "yay"
Rosie says, "That skull doesn't look promising."
[tomb] Paulie says, "I hope he says 'Congratulations!'"
Crumbli says, "Uh-oh. Gem-encrusted skull is scary."
Clem says, "Hmm, actually."
[tomb] Paulie says, "And then gives us our prizes and sends us home."
Clem says, "Let's back off and I'll cast Divination! Since I've been reserving it for ages."
[tomb] Ebezar asks, "hiya, hiya, hiya, and thanks for coming to my Tomb of Horrors! Have you tried the veal?"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "So how far are we from the anti-magic room?"
[tomb] Rosie says (to Paulie), "30 feet."
Paulie asks (of Clem), "And ask how we can defeat him?"
Clem says, "Yeah, pretty much."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "In a straight line?"
Clem says, "Or at least where he is and when he's going to jump out and eat us."
[tomb] Rosie says, "Yes, the room is south, and the anti-magic room is east."
[tomb] Paulie says, "(I'm wondering what would happen if we threw the staff down the shaft.)"
[tomb] Rosie says, "I thought it was already broken."
[tomb] Clem says, "Well, we'd blow up all our stuff, for starters."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Yes. But it's in a room that suppresses magical effects."
[tomb] Crumbli says, "There is still a northern passage we haven't explored."
[tomb] Rosie says, "Presumably the north passage is just a trap."
Crumbli says, "Tomb I'm hoping that that's where Acererak is."
Finn asks, "Does someone with loads of Religion or Spellcraft or something want to give the runes a shot (from here)?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "My theory is that, like the ioun stones, the retributive strike will kick in when the staff leaves the field."
Clem says, "Good thought, I'll try with Religion."
Ebezar says, "That would probably be me as well."
[Crows-Nest] nothing_else says, "aha, crumbli isn't on this channel, no wonder she didn't answer"
Clem rolls 1d20+12: 16+12 | 28
Ebezar rolls 1d20+17: 17+17 | 34
Finn says, "Hopefully it isn't Symbol of Death... uh oh."
Clem says, "Now you say."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says (to Finn), "ha ha"
Clem says, "If it looks like an unknown language, I can try a spell."
DM says, "They are runes of surpassing power!"
Crumbli says, "I feel surpassed."
DM says, "Mostly they just kind of imply 'I am a bad-ass wizard and am supremely powerful'"
[Crows-Nest] Finn says, "Surpantsing power"
Clem says, "Why am I surprised that Ebezar would have memorised the runic for that."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "there's a triangle at the bottom reading 'BABY ON BOARD'"
DM says, "Nothing really specific"
Clem says, "Okay, I am getting super bad vibes from this room."
Paulie says, "It is the room of pants."
Clem says, "I say we carefully check north, although it's probably a trap, and then I'll check in with G'taar."
Paulie says, "We could attempt to lasso the pants."
Clem says, "Maybe he'll talk to us now that we're sucking a bit less."
Ebezar says, "Those say something more damaging than 'I prepared explosive runes today'"
Crumbli says, "I retrieve my equipment."
Rosie asks, "Ack, you're entering the room?"
DM says, "As soon as Crumbli touches her stuff"
Crumbli says, "That's it. I'm getting my stuff. The rest of you can go hide if you want."
DM says, "1) the dust on the bier starts coalescing"
Paulie wants to flee, but feels compelled to watch.
[tomb] Finn asks, "Okay, who wants a Death Ward?"
DM says, "2) the skull starts to float up in the air"
Crumbli says, "Well, this is what we came here for."
DM says, "Roll initiative"
[tomb] Clem says, "Oh well, bit late for the Divination."
Clem rolls 1d20: 18 | 18
Ebezar rolls 1d20+3: 20+3 | 23
[Crows-Nest] G2 asks, "did you do the divination yet?"
Crumbli rolls 1d20+3: 11+3 | 14
Rosie rolls 1d20+4: 8+4 | 12
[tomb] Ebezar says, "holy cow"
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "It takes a long time to cast."
Finn rolls 1d20+0: 2+0 | 2
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "So I feel I have to get some agreement first."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "I guess that'll give me a chance to pop off a dispel magic on the thing"
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "It's a shame, I prepared a rhyme and everything!"
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Although I hadn't quite figured out the last line."
Paulie rolls 1d20+8: 16+8 | 24
Grog rolls 1d20+6: 3+6 | 9
[tomb] Ebezar asks, "or would you prefer a resilient sphere around the thing?"
DM says, "Kong needs to roll"
[tomb] Clem says, "I was thinking maybe a Wall of Stone."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "I guess that would enbubble crumbli's pants as well"
[tomb] Rosie exclaims, "Resilient sphere!"
Finn rolls 1d20+2: 7+2 | 9
Finn says, "9 for Kong."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "but in 9 minutes you could go back and fight the skull and get the pants"
[tomb] Clem says, "Except there are two things, looks like."
DM rolls 1d20: 10 | 10
DM rolls 1d20+5: 9+5 | 14
DM | PAULIE Ebezar Clem Dust Crumbli Rosie Skull Grog Kong Finn
[tomb] Ebezar says, "if no one objects, I'll do a dispel magic on the dust"
[tomb] Finn says, "Go for it"
[tomb] Rosie says, "I dunno, the skull is pretty hardy."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Before I act... is there any reason whatsoever not to run away to the anti-magic room right now?"
[tomb] Clem says, "We need our stuff!"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Aside from that?"
[tomb] Finn says, "I think that would screw us more than him, but I'm just guessing."
[tomb] Clem says, "I guess we could grab our stuff and run."
[tomb] Finn says, "I mean, it /is/ his tomb. He could probably turn it off or whatnot."
[tomb] Eolo says (to Finn), "you're just saying that because you're last in the initiative order"
[tomb] Finn says, "Cmon, let's smote evil, etc etc."
[tomb] Clem says, "I could grab my armour and stagger, at least."
[tomb] Paulie says (to Finn), "That may be true."
[tomb] Crumbli says, "I see no reason to leave until our souls have been devoured."
[tomb] Rosie says, "My one brilliant idea is that we grab his whatchagigger that keeps his soul and teleport to the lava and throw it in."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "So is the general agreement run (and maybe try the staff), or fight?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "OK, stay and fight it is, then."
[tomb] Clem says, "FIGHT"
DM | http://hamesucken.com/tomb/33a.jpg
[tomb] Clem says, "Until we start getting killed, then run."
DM says, "by the way"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "FIREBALL"
DM says, "Those are gems in its eye sockets and for its teeth"
Paulie hastes a bunch of people.
DM asks, "The usual suspects?"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "hm, dust or skull. dust or skull."
[tomb] Clem says, "But they're standing close together!"
[tomb] Clem says, "Er, swirling and floating, but you get the idea."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "this was for dispel magic. I guess I can wait for that"
Paulie specifically picks out... himself, Grog, Rosie, Clem, Crumbli, and Finn.
[Crows-Nest] (from Rosie) Paulie takes his action: appraise on the gems.
[Crows-Nest] Finn says, "Heh"
[tomb] Clem asks, "Hmm, you think these are just spells, rather than actual monsters?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Finn instead of Kong, since he's actually here."
[tomb] Ebezar asks, "can I fireball them without getting crumbli?"
[tomb] Clem says, "Crumbli isn't paralysed this time."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "the heat should shrink the pants so they fit her better"
[tomb] Paulie exclaims, "If the pants catch fire, then all of this is for naught!"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Yeah, they're presumably actual monsters."
DM asks (of Paulie), "Are you using your move action?"
[tomb] Clem says, "Maybe a Banish or whatever would work, but it seems like Dispel Magic wouldn't."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "yeah"
Paulie moves out of straight-line range.
DM | Paulie EBEZAR Clem Dust Crumbli Rosie Skull Grog Kong Finn
[tomb] Ebezar asks, "do I have a clear fireball shot at the dust and skull?"
[tomb] Rosie says, "I would totally cast sphere, so we could grab our stuff."
[tomb] DM says, "Sure, although I think it'll spread back out to where you are"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Will the sphere include our stuff?"
[tomb] Clem asks, "How big is the sphere?"
[tomb] DM says, "and might destroy lots of treasure"
[tomb] Paulie says, "For values of 'our' meaning 'your'."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "all right, all right."
[tomb] Finn says, "30' radius"
[tomb] Finn says, "Or maybe diameter."
[tomb] Paulie says, "I guess you can center the sphere above the skull."
[tomb] Ebezar asks, "the resilient sphere is 9' in diameter -- can I try to bubble the two things without enbubbling our stuff?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "If the stuff's on the floor, and the skull's on the platform."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Bier."
[tomb] Finn says, "By that I mean the sphere of fireball, not the resilient one."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "I need an empowered fireball with a smallerized area"
[tomb] Clem says, "The spell says 'centered around a creature'."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Hmm. How far's the skull from the stuff?"
[tomb] DM says, "I see Resilient Sphere allows spell resistance, which means it'll just fail"
[tomb] Clem asks, "Wait, what?"
[tomb] Finn says, "That does not make me happy"
[tomb] Paulie asks (of DM), "Even if it's cast on the Dust?"
[tomb] DM says, "Sorry, was talking about something else"
[tomb] Finn says, "Let's throw a squirrel at the skull, and then cast sphere on THAT"
[tomb] DM says, "The vault is 15 feet deep"
[tomb] Clem says, "Okay, everybody ignore the DM's mischannels."
[tomb] DM says, "and the treasure is right by you and the skull's at the far end"
[tomb] DM says, "so it's like 10 feet from the treasure"
[tomb] DM says, "So hmm, it would be a close call"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "well, the sphere has a 4.5' radius"
[tomb] DM says, "Oh, diameter, duh"
[tomb] DM says, "Of course, that's assuming it doesn't just fail"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "right"
[tomb] Clem says, "I can't think why it would do that."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "I'll note apropos of nothing that I have a +4 to caster level against spell resistance"
[tomb] Clem says, "Oho."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "(greater +) spell penetration"
[tomb] DM says, "Sweet"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "right, one attempted resilient sphere"
Ebezar waves his arms around and, for a material component, blows a few bubbles from his bubble wand.
DM says, "The spell fizzles"
[Crows-Nest] Rosie says, "Ha ha ha"
Ebezar says, "bah."
DM says, "Much to no one's surprise"
DM asks, "Move action?"
Ebezar says, "Since I'm near the back already, I'll stick around."
DM | Paulie Ebezar CLEM Dust Crumbli Rosie Skull Grog Kong Finn
Clem asks, "Okay, we're at the door, the treasure is in front of us, and the skull and dust are at the back?"
DM says, "Yeah"
Clem asks, "Is that just our own stuff, or all the treasure?"
Clem says, "We spent a while ogling it."
DM says, "All of it"
Clem says, "Hmm hmm hmm"
[tomb] Ebezar asks (of DM), "oh, wait, don't I need to roll the caster level check for spell resistance?"
[tomb] DM says, "Not against this guy"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "bah"
Clem says, "It seems likely my offensive spells would just fizzle, so..."
Clem says, "WALL OF STONE"
Clem says, "Between the treasure and the bad guys."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "man, higher than a 33"
[tomb] Finn says, "He might be like an Iron Golem -- spell immunity, not just really high SR"
[tomb] Clem says, "Maybe Gygax just wrote 'oh, and spells don't work against this guy, because I'm Gary Gygax and I SAID SO'"
[tomb] Paulie says, "An acid arrow would answer that question."
[tomb] DM says, "Let's see, 10' wide by 20' high"
[tomb] DM says, "So you wall off the whole thing"
Clem says, "And for my move action I'll grab some valuable-looking stuff, if that counts as a move."
[tomb] Clem says, "I sincerely hope so."
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Do we have any knowledge of this type of monster? Like, would we know d20srd about it?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Since it doesn't do SR. On the other hand, he probably has great touch AC."
[tomb] DM says (to Rosie), "You could make a knowledge check"
[tomb] Ebezar asks, "what knowledge skill?"
[tomb] Ebezar asks, "arcana?"
[tomb] Crumbli says, "Religion encompasses undead, I think."
[tomb] DM says, "You could try Arcana or Religion"
Ebezar rolls 1d20+17: 9+17 | 26
DM says, "Clem grabs a few scrolls"
DM says (to Ebezar), "You have no idea what the fuck this is"
Ebezar exclaims, "I know it's not an effriti!"
Rosie says (to Clem), "Your own stuff counts as 'valuable stuff', you know."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "ha ha"
Ebezar says, "He would be talking in ALL CAPS."
DM says, "Anyway, nothing seems to be going on anymore"
Clem says (to Rosie), "I'm doing okay without it, I was actually thinking of selling it all for cash money if I found it again."
Crumbli says, "Of course it's not an efreeti. There is no such thing as an efreeti. 'Efreeti' is the plural."
Clem grab grab loot.
Rosie grabs her stuff, putting on her cloak of resistance first.
Ebezar loot loot loot.
DM says, "Let me quickly tell you what there is here"
(From Ebezar) DM says, "1) A skull materializing through the wall."
Clem says, "Er, that was kind of an anti-climax."
Crumbli says, "Are we still going in initiative order? I'm waiting for the skull to cast Disintegrate on the wall."
Clem says, "But I figure we can get suited up and then maybe kill the monster later."
Crumbli says, "Or, like, Phase Door or something."
DM says, "All your stuff"
Crumbli asks, "I mean, do we really think that wall is going to hold it?"
DM says, "A lot of gems"
[tomb] Clem says, "Hey, I found my rope!"
[tomb] Clem says, "The same rope I used to play with as a child!"
DM says, "About ten potions"
Finn says, "Well, it was happy enough sitting in its tomb /this/ long."
[tomb] Eolo asks, "did they also let you play with the flaming sword as a child?"
[tomb] Clem says, "Oh and there's some armour and magic crap too."
DM says, "About ten scrolls"
DM says, "A ring, a rod, a staff"
DM says, "A few swords and a spear"
Crumbli says, "If we have the time, I'm getting dressed."
Paulie asks, "Should we go identify them?"
DM says, "Also a ghost that just materialized through the south wall"
Rosie says (to Crumbli), "You don't know if you have time."
DM says, "Roll initiative again!!"
Clem says, "Yikes, a ghose!"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Is the south wall the one we just built?"
Clem says, "Or even a ghost!"
Paulie rolls 1d20+8: 13+8 | 21
Grog rolls 1d20+6: 16+6 | 22
[tomb] Clem says, "Yup."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "ha ha"
Finn rolls 1d20+0: 17+0 | 17
Crumbli rolls 1d20+3: 7+3 | 10
Finn rolls 1d20+2: 4+2 | 6
Ebezar rolls 1d20+3: 12+3 | 15
Clem asks, "We're still hasted, right?"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Did I get my cloak of resistance on? Or anything else?"
Finn says, "(6 for Kong, the lucky stiff.)"
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah"
DM says, "Yeah"
Rosie rolls 1d20+4: 14+4 | 18
Clem asks, "Does that improve initiative at all?"
DM rolls 1d20+5: 7+5 | 12
Clem rolls 1d20: 4 | 4
Clem says, "Not that it'd help any."
DM | GROG Paulie Rosie Finn Ebezar Ghost Crumbli Kong Clem
[tomb] Paulie asks, "How close is the ghost to Grog?"
[tomb] Eolo says (to Clem), "apparently not, oddly enough"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "Shame we can't have the gems from the floating magic-immune skull"
[tomb] Clem says, "I guess this situation doesn't come up often."
[tomb] Eolo says, "(I guess the theory is you cast it once combat has started already, yeah)"
[tomb] Clem says (to Ebezar), "I could always dimension door inside there."
[tomb] Clem says, "If I were INSANE."
[tomb] Ebezar says (to Clem), "you did volunteer to come to the TOMB OF HORRORS"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "1.wav"
[tomb] DM says (to Paulie), "he could take a 5-foot step and do a full attack"
[tomb] Clem asks, "I dunno, could we set up an ambush of some kind and then dispel the wall?"
Grog does his usual ragey, axey thing.
[tomb] Clem asks, "Or is it a real wall now?"
[tomb] Clem says, "You'd think I'd know these things."
Grog rolls 1d20+16: 9+16 | 25
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "it would be a funny prank for Clem to pretend to dimension door through the wall, teleport somewhere else, paint his face all green and rotten, and then teleport back"
[Crows-Nest] DM says, "Ha ha"
[Crows-Nest] nothing_else says, "haha"
[tomb] Eolo says, "I believe it can't be dispelled now"
DM says, "That hits"
Grog rolls 1d12+8: 1+8 | 9
[Crows-Nest] G2 says, "bore a hole in the wall and pour in concrete"
Grog rolls 1d20+11: 6+11 | 17
[tomb] Eolo says, "since its duration is instantaneous rather than permanent"
[Crows-Nest] Clem says (to Eolo), "Hee hee."
DM says, "Actually, roll a 1d2 before doing damage"
Grog rolls 1d2: 1 | 1
DM says, "Grog's axe swishes right through it insubstantially!"
Grog exclaims, "NOT FAIR!"
Clem says, "That explains how it got through the wall!"
Clem says, "Well, crap."
Paulie says (to Grog), "There there."
DM says, "OK, the second swing was a potential hit too, but you have to flip a coin again"
Grog rolls 1d2: 1 | 1
[tomb] Finn asks, "Would you believe I bought a ghost touch scimitar?"
Grog rolls 1d20+16: 1+16 | 17
(From DM) Grog *whoosh*
[tomb] Ebezar says, "ha ha"
[tomb] Clem says, "Ha ha ha ha."
Grog rolls 1d2: 1 | 1
[tomb] Finn says, "No, really, I did."
Grog exclaims, "GROG WANT NEW COIN!"
[tomb] Clem says, "I totally believe you."
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Is that die working?"
DM rolls 10d2: 2 2 2 2 1 2 1 2 2 1 | 17
[tomb] DM says, "Ha ha ha ha I used up all the 2s"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "oh, *there* are all the 2s"
[tomb] G2 says, "there go.. timing"
DM | Grog PAULIE Rosie Finn Ebezar Ghost Crumbli Kong Clem
[tomb] Finn says, "Although I'm tempted to Wild Shape into a rhinoceros. Hmmm."
[tomb] Rosie says (to Finn), "To break down the wall? I think Kong would kill *you* for that."
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "You know, before this game I wasn't sure whether to take wall of stone, because it seemed like a waste for a 5th-level slot."
[Crows-Nest] (from nothing_else) Finn says, "a ghost-touch rhinoceros"
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "But I think this is the third time I've used it -- no, wait, the fourth."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "ha ha"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "oh yeah, it was good against the golem too"
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "So I guess it was a good choice after all."
[Crows-Nest] Clem asks, "The golem? The elephant, you mean?"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "yeah"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Spells requiring a ranged touch attack would get the 1d2, right?"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "FIREBALL"
[Crows-Nest] Clem asks, "Future adventurers will be all, man, who built all these crazy little granite walls everywhere?"
[tomb] Eolo says, "it seems like any touch attack would"
[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "hee hee"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "hm, baleful polymorph"
[Crows-Nest] Clem asks, "And carefully scratched a repeating flaming sword motif over them all?"
[tomb] Finn says, "Assuming spells work at all, which I'm not exactly optimistic about."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Is my move action enough to get me to a position where I could Burning Hands without hitting anyone friendly?"
[tomb] Crumbli says, "That doesn't work on undead."
[tomb] DM says (to Paulie), "Sure"
[tomb] Crumbli says, "Baleful Polymorph requires a Fortitude save, and that means it can't affect anything without a Constitution."
Paulie moves into position, then spews flame. Pretty flame.
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Do I need to roll anything for SR?"
[tomb] DM says, "Nope"
Paulie rolls 5d4: 3 1 4 3 2 | 13
[tomb] Clem says, "a-HA, it was the skull."
DM says, "and the DC on the saving throw is what? I always forget that formula"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "the skull was what I targeted the sphere on"
Finn says, "10+spell level+stat mod"
Finn says, "I'm pretty sure."
[tomb] Clem says, "Oh, I thought you just cast it at both."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "it has to be targeted at one creature"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "so I guess I should have bubbled the dust"
Eolo says, "yeah, which is 15 by my count"
DM says, "So, uh, 10+1+1"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "and the skull would have popped out the other end"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Burning Hands is a level 1 spell, and I've got +4 Cha."
Eolo says, "Paulie's cha mod is +4"
DM says, "Oh, cha, yeah"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "cha cha cha"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Dude, I didn't take all the Charisma for the good lucks alone."
DM says, "Anyway, you fired it up pretty good"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Er, looks, even."
[tomb] Eolo says, "hee hee"
DM | Grog Paulie ROSIE Finn Ebezar Ghost Crumbli Kong Clem
[tomb] Rosie asks, "OK, what equipment did I manage to equip before this guy appeared?"
[tomb] DM says, "Just the cloak"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Does equipping something take a full action?"
[Crows-Nest] * Grog has left the channel.
[tomb] Crumbli says, "Depends on what it is. Armor takes longer."
[tomb] Rosie says, "I have incidental stuff."
[tomb] Rosie says, "Ring, gloves, amulet, bracers."
[tomb] Ebezar says (to Finn), "given your comment a while back about golems and spell-ignorance, now I'm wondering if that skull is something like a precious precious loot golem"
[tomb] DM says, "Enh, you can spend a whole round getting those all on"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "OK, vote, everyone--should I equip or punch?"
[tomb] Clem says, "Punch, I think."
[tomb] DM says, "Voting is a full-round action"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Punch."
[tomb] Rosie says, "I have a decent attack, but half will automatically miss."
[tomb] Rosie says, "Ha"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "punch"
[tomb] Paulie says, "You get lots of hit chances."
[tomb] Rosie says, "OK, then."
[tomb] DM says, "Just don't use Instant Runoff Voting"
[tomb] Finn says, "Especially with haste"
[tomb] Clem says, "Punch out that wraith!"
[tomb] Rosie asks (of DM), "Can I flank?"
[tomb] DM says, "Nope, it just came right through the wall"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "From the side?"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "someone should make a butcher character who is always running around attempting to flank things"
[tomb] DM says, "so it's right at the wall and no one's moved to the sides of it"
[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "boo"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Could her 5ft step put her on one side, so someone else could flank later?"
[tomb] Rosie says, "OK, I use my 5' step to move to the side of it and attack."
[tomb] Rosie says, "Timing"
[tomb] DM says, "Yep"
Rosie rolls 1d20+12: 13+12 | 25
[tomb] Rosie says, "I'll just roll all my attacks first."
Rosie rolls 1d20+12: 3+12 | 15
Rosie rolls 1d20+12: 14+12 | 26
Rosie rolls 1d20+7: 11+7 | 18
[tomb] Rosie says, "(they all do the same damage)"
DM says, "OK, those are all potential hits"
Rosie rolls 4d2: 1 2 1 1 | 5
DM says, "and one hits for real"
Rosie rolls 1d10+2: 5+2 | 7
DM says, "Hey, one of your punches actually felt like it connected with a ghostly kidney or something"
DM | Grog Paulie Rosie FINN Ebezar Ghost Crumbli Kong Clem
[Crows-Nest] G2 says, "quick, rip it out"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "ha ha"
Finn says, "I sidle up to flank it"
Finn says, "And then beat on it with my swell ghost touch scimitar"
DM says, "I read 'swell' as 'svelte'"
DM says, "Beat away"
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Unfortunately, this is the ghost of that superhero who throws organs at people."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "yay"
Finn rolls 1d20+10: 10+10 | 20
[Crows-Nest] DM says, "Pipe organs"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "I guess buying a ghost touch weapon when heading into a tomb is not entirely a dumb move"
Finn rolls 1d6+4: 6+4 | 10
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "This certainly makes up for killing a bunch of party members."
DM says, "It looks alarmed as your scimitar actually slices through it with some bite"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo asks, "was finn hasted?"
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "That's my official lawful good verdict, anyway."
[Crows-Nest] Finn says, "Hey, I never did that much."
[Crows-Nest] nothing_else says, "I think it was for the defense against a bunch of ex-party-members"
[Crows-Nest] DM says, "Finn is hasted, yeah"
[Crows-Nest] Finn says, "Yeah, but I had to move, as far as I know."
[Crows-Nest] Clem says (to nothings), "Ha ha ha."
[Crows-Nest] Finn says, "So no full-attack for me."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "ah, ok"
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "Aw."
DM | Grog Paulie Rosie Finn EBEZAR Ghost Crumbli Kong Clem
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "But, hey, next round."
Ghogg has arrived.
[Crows-Nest] Finn says, "Yes... next round there's some ghostly pain a-coming down."
[Crows-Nest] Ghogg asks, "everyone dead yet?"
Ebezar says, "FIREB -- uh, empowered scorching ray"
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "Mysteriously not."
[Crows-Nest] Paulie exclaims, "But we may have seen Acererak!"
[tomb] Finn afk a minute. Kong stays the hell out of everyone's way.
DM says, "*zot*"
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "Or possibly just a random floating skull-with-jewels-for-eyes monster."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "two rays at a ranged touch attack"
Ebezar rolls 1d20+7: 15+7 | 22
Ebezar rolls 1d20+7: 17+7 | 24
Ebezar rolls 2d2: 2 1 | 3
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "I was sort of assuming it was finally Acererak."
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "But maybe not."
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Teaming up with the ghost is sort of weird."
[tomb] Ebezar asks, "I never remembered: for empowered, do you just multiply your damage by 1.5?"
[tomb] Eolo says, "yeah"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "so assuming the first one hit,"
Ebezar rolls 4d6: 2 2 4 2 | 10
[tomb] DM says, "which it did"
[tomb] Ebezar exclaims, "15!"
DM says, "The ghost collapses into a pile of ghostly dust"
Ebezar says, "Hmpf."
DM says, "All is eerily silent"
Clem says, "Huh."
Crumbli says, "I'm picking up my cloak before we roll initiative again."
Grog says, "Ghosts not fun."
Crumbli says, "And putting it on."
Clem gets all his gear back.
Ebezar asks, "Anyone wish to fight that loot monster?"
Paulie collects some of the other random treasure while people are gearing up.
Clem says, "I guess I won't stop to put my armour on just yet, but I think I can stash it in my haversack."
Ebezar says, "No? Me neither."
Paulie says (to Ebezar), "A Divination might be useful first."
Rosie dons her gear as soon as possible.
Clem says, "Yeah, I was thinking that."
Clem asks, "What question should I ask?"
Paulie says, "Possibly outside of the tomb, even."
Rosie exclaims, "From outside!"
Rosie exclaims, "Let's move!"
Crumbli says, "Also, my gloves of dexterity"
Paulie moves.
Grog grabs loot and moves.
Clem does a quick search for more treasure.
Crumbli says, "Let's pick up our stuff, retreat, re-equip, and come back."
Rosie grabs, I dunno, the rod and staff as well as her other stuff and runs.
DM says, "OK, you got it all"
[tomb] Paulie says, "We could Identify stuff out there too, if we feel we've got time."
Finn and Kong follow along.
[tomb] Clem says, "Seems like we do."
Clem says, "Okay, I will cast a Divination if somebody wants to help me phrase the question."
[tomb] Paulie says, "I suppose we'll hear it if something knocks down your wall while we're on the way out."
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Wait, are we out of the tomb now?"
Clem asks, "What are we asking, if there's more treasure behind the wall of stone? Or elsewhere? Or what the skull was?"
Paulie asks, "Great G'taar who's got our back, how do we win against Acererak?"
Rosie says, "What the skull is and how to beat it."
Clem says, "Heh."
Clem asks, "Finn has Stone Shape, right?"
Clem says, "So we can get back in to fight it if we want."
Finn says, "Yeah -- not on me, but I could prepare it."
DM says, "G'taar's voice booms, "YES, FINN HAS STONE SHAPE""
[tomb] Finn says, "Ha"
G2 says, "ha ha ha"
Clem says, "Ha ha ha."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "ha"
[Crows-Nest] G2 says, "I guess "Finn has stone shape, right? / So we can get back in to fight" was a rhyme"
Clem starts casting Divination.
Finn says, "We could ask something like "Is it wise to leave Acererak undestroyed?" or something."
Paulie asks (of Finn), "Do we care what's wise?"
Paulie says, "We've been into the Tomb of Horrors, oh, half a dozen times in the last week or two."
Finn says, "Well, as the paragon of moral virtue, I think it's worthwhile."
Paulie says, "I think we left 'wise' behind long ago."
Finn says, "Otherwise, sure, let's just fill up the tomb with Walls of Stone and celebrate our retirement."
Rosie says, "If we actually want to beat this thing, I think we should research how to beat it, and buy stuff with the loot specifically towards that end."
Clem says, "Oh great G'taar!"
Clem says, "please do tell us"
Clem says, "what the hell"
Clem says, "that floating skull was!"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "yay"
Clem says, "It's trapped behind a wall of stone --"
Clem asks, "should we fight it, or just go home?"
Clem prays.
[Crows-Nest] Rosie says, "That is most excellent."
[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "nice"
DM says, "Roll a 79 or less"
Finn murmers, "GO HOME..." under his breath.
Clem rolls 1d100: 99 | 99
[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "ha ha man"
[tomb] Clem says, "Whoops!"
DM says, "Ha ha ha ha ha ha"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Aw."
Clem says, "Hmm, it sounds like he's saying..."
[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "that was a one-in-a-hundred roll"
Clem says, "He's saying..."
DM says, "You hear the sound of a breaking string"
[tomb] (from nothing_else) DM says, "Less? did I say less?? I meant 'more'"
[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "you need a .wav of that wrong-note sound from G'taar Hero"
[tomb] Finn says, "I'm sorry, the deity you are trying to reach is no longer available. Please try again later, or convert to a different religion."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "I guess you could go into town and see if there's a 7th-level cleric at the temple there"
Clem asks, "'ASK AGAIN LATER'?"
Clem says, "Huh, never had that one before."
DM says, "Actually, I don't think you're allowed to reask the same question"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "How difficult would it be for us to ask a similar-but-different question later?"
Clem says, "I think you're right, but I couldn't find a better magic 8-ball reply."
Rosie says, "Yeah, you have to come up with a different rhyme next time."
Clem says, "I'm going to take that as a sign that we should appraise and identify all this lovely lovely loot."
Finn says, "I concur."
Paulie says, "Good idea."
Rosie says, "Sounds good to me."
Paulie lays out his five Identify scrolls.
[Crows-Nest] G2 says, ""g'taar you bastard / answer now / to what I asked before / or I swear I will burn down / your goddamn temple door""
DM says, "OK, let me go into a little more detail"
DM says, "A hundred gems, three of which are huge"
Clem says, "HUGE GEMS"
DM asks, "and are still gems?"
DM says, "I mean, 'and are still gems!'"
DM says, "Nine potions"
Clem says, "Man, with this I could raise a whole bunch of dead. Er, or buy stuff."
Paulie rolls 1d20+4: 6+4 | 10
DM says, "Nine scrolls"
DM says, "A ring, a rod, a staff"
[tomb] Paulie says, "(More untrained appraising on the gems.)"
Ebezar says, "awesome"
DM says, "A greatsword, a spear, and two longswords"
[Crows-Nest] nothing_else asks, "don't you hate using up identify scrolls identifying identify scrolls?"
DM says, "And, most importantly, three pairs of pants"
[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "hee hee"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "ha ha ha"
Paulie asks, "Dibs on the pa-- oh. Did you want those?"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "I guess Ebezar could scribe an identify scroll into his book"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says (to Paulie), "ha ha"
DM says (to Paulie), "The big ones have got to be worth at least 1000gp each"
[Crows-Nest] (from Eolo) DM says "That would be Clem's pants"
Paulie says (to DM), "I'm assuming you mean the pants."
[tomb] Ebezar says (to DM), "those are some pants"
[tomb] Clem says, "Hee hee."
[Crows-Nest] nothing_else says, "nice choices of channels, folx"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "wow, three different places, too"
Paulie says, "Hang on, there's something seriously strange about these gems."
Paulie says, "They look almost like they're... *not quartz*."
Paulie checks if any of them are gargoyle-hand-sized.
DM says, "Not particularly"
[tomb] Clem says, "So I can't tell if we're done or not."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "So Ebezar can use Spellcraft or whatever to ID the scrolls, right?"
[tomb] Clem says, "I guess I could try asking G'taar if there's more treasure behind the wall."
[tomb] Eolo says, "and the potions, or at least he can try"
Crumbli says, "OK. I have some stuff that I'm not using any more now that I have my own stuff back."
[tomb] Clem says, "Except there are those gems so that must be a yes."
[tomb] DM says (to Paulie), "Yeah"
[tomb] Paulie says (to Clem), "You could ask about the best way to deal with the skull thing."
[tomb] Clem says, "Oh, true."
[tomb] Paulie says, "(As opposed to what it is.)"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "I say we go play with the gargoyle and leave that skull the hell alone"
Paulie asks (of Ebezar), "Can you read this gibberish?"
[tomb] Rosie says, "I would vote for going into town and possibly the closest city to research what that was. We could then look it up on the d20srd, and decide if we could actually beat it."
[tomb] DM | The writing on a scroll must be deciphered before a character can use it or know exactly what spell it contains. This requires a read magic spell or a successful Spellcraft check (DC 20 + spell level).
[tomb] Paulie says (to Rosie), "I don't think the SRD has a listing for 'Acererak'."
[tomb] Rosie says, "I'm content to leave the gargoyle alone too, at this point."
[tomb] Clem asks, "Is there a penalty for a failed check?"
[tomb] Rosie says (to Paulie), "No, but it does have that monster type."
[tomb] DM says (to Clem), "Only if it's cursed!"
[tomb] Eolo says, "one read magic spell will last long enough to read all the scrolls, I guess"
[tomb] Clem says, "I am willing to camp out again and ask G'taar tomorrow how to defeat the skull."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "I can try the spellcraft check on the scrolls before we try the read magic spell thing"
[tomb] Paulie says (to Eolo), "Yeah, but if we can just use his Spellcraft..."
Crumbli asks (of Rosie), "Would you like your boots of levitation back?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "(I've got a scroll of Read Magic just for this purpose if he fails, though.)"
[tomb] Eolo says, "yeah, either way, I guess"
Rosie says, "That'd be great, thanks."
Finn says, "We're filthy rich! Let's just hire some plebe to do it for us."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "okay, I'm trying spellcraft."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says (to Finn), "hee hee"
Ebezar rolls 1d20+12: 6+12 | 18
Ebezar rolls 1d20+12: 15+12 | 27
[tomb] DM says, "OK, let's do one at a time"
Ebezar rolls 1d20+12: 4+12 | 16
[tomb] DM says, "Hold on"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "whoops, sorry"
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "I wonder if BoLevitation lift and separate."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "I'm holding"
Rob_2 has arrived.
DM says, "OK, the second one was Command"
[tomb] Finn says, "When you fail the first one and your eyes get turned to dust, it's going to affect your further rolls."
DM says, "and apparently the first one was too since it looks the same"
[tomb] Eolo says (to Rob), "they are identifying loot that they got from the tomb"
DM says, "No dice on the third"
Ebezar rolls 1d20+12: 17+12 | 29
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Can he take 10?"
DM says, "The fourth is Arcane Eye"
[tomb] Clem says, "Command? Odd."
[tomb] Finn says, "Not on Spellcraft, usually."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "I don't think so on this"
Ebezar rolls 1d20+12: 4+12 | 16
DM says, "You can't make out the fifth"
Ebezar rolls 1d20+12: 16+12 | 28
[tomb] Eolo says (to Paulie), "I think he can, but he'd only be able to identify up to 2nd-level spells, by my count"
DM says, "Oh, good ol' Scorching Ray"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "plus that's only -- right"
Ebezar pats that scroll gently.
Ebezar rolls 1d20+12: 11+12 | 23
[tomb] Eolo says, "hee hee"
DM says, "No dice on the seventh"
Ebezar rolls 1d20+12: 2+12 | 14
Crumbli says, "I seem to have some unidentified items from previous sessions."
Finn says, "This must be garbage that other adventures carried in their pants."
DM says, "or the eighth"
Ebezar rolls 1d20+12: 13+12 | 25
DM says, "or the ninth"
[tomb] Clem asks, "Can I try Spellcraft on the ones he missed?"
Finn says, "AdventurERs."
[tomb] Clem says, "Or someone else if they have better than +6."
[tomb] DM says, "Sure"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "so we've got one that's at least 4th lvl and one that's at least 6th"
[tomb] DM says, "#3, 5, 7, 8, and 9 remain"
[tomb] Clem says, "Okay, I'll try the third, fifth, seventh, eighth, ninth in that order."
Clem rolls 1d20+6: 2+6 | 8
Clem rolls 1d20+6: 2+6 | 8
Clem says, "Oh boy."
Clem says, "This magic stuff is hard!"
Clem rolls 1d20+6: 3+6 | 9
Clem rolls 1d20+6: 3+6 | 9
DM says, "Ha ha ha ha"
Clem says, "I think this one could be... some kind of spell!"
[tomb] Paulie says, "I suppose I can try my piddling +1 from Int, if it works untrained."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "Clem is more into the applied than the theoretical stuff"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "like reading"
[tomb] Eolo says, "no"
DM says, "One more"
Ebezar exclaims, "a natural 20 and you'll identify it!"
Clem rolls 1d20+6: 5+6 | 11
DM says, "Nice try, bunky"
Paulie pulls out his Read Magic scroll.
Clem says, "I guess I'll stick to the god-bothering, since I'm awesome at that."
Clem says, "...usually."
Paulie says, "OK, let's do the rest the easy way."
Paulie turns on the Automatic Magical Reading Power, then looks at the pile of unidentified scrolls.
DM says, "Slow, Shatter, Dispel Evil, Melf's Acid Arrow, and Power Word Kill"
Ebezar says, "what do you want to bet the power word on that last one is simply 'acerack!'"
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "I thought that said 'Shatner'"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "hee hee"
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Ha ha."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "that's Slow"
Paulie says, "Melf's? This scroll must date back from the Second Era."
[Crows-Nest] nothing_else exclaims, "Power! Word! Kill!"
Clem asks, "Okay, what now -- camp out, try another Divination?"
Clem says, "I guess somebody brave could try sipping the potions."
Paulie says, "We still have more items we could identify."
Paulie says, "Weapons, for example."
Clem says, "Feel free."
Rosie asks, "Maybe a detect magic to narrow our search first?"
Paulie nods.
Ebezar says, "Certainly."
Ebezar says, "*vrrm*"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "you can identify a potion with a DC 25 spellcraft check"
DM says, "Everything but the gems is magic"
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Don't start that again."
DM says, "and the pants"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "hee hee"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "Acererak should have secretly replaced the pants with magic evil pants"
Crumbli says, "And some of the stuff with the pants."
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "You can also ID potions you already know."
Clem says, "I'm going to cast Detect Evil on everything, for the hell of it."
Clem says, "And also Detect Poison."
Clem says, "I have all these spells and never use them."
[tomb] Rosie says, "OK, I have a great munchkiny idea."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Does Ebezar get school checks on the magic stuff?"
[tomb] Clem asks (of Rosie), "Yeah?"
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, it'll just be tedious"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Assuming that stuff is inside the bier, and that the skull is not."
[tomb] DM says, "but we can do it"
[tomb] Clem says, "I wonder if Hide From Undead would work on the skull."
Rob_2 has disconnected.
Rob_2 vooms himself somewhere else.
[tomb] Paulie says, "Mmm."
DM says, "Nothing's evil or poison"
[tomb] Rosie says, "We go down, and Finn molds the stone, sweeping it back until it reveals the bier but still traps the skull."
[tomb] Rosie says, "Then we open the bier and loot it."
[tomb] DM says, "Mmm, bier"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "What were the strongest auras on the weapons?"
[tomb] DM says, "The greatsword"
Paulie uses an Identify scroll on the greatsword.
DM says, "It's a +3 defender"
Clem says, "Huh, not bad."
Clem asks, "What does that do?"
DM says, "(you can transfer some of its bonus to AC)"
Grog looks at his mere +1 axe.
Clem says, "I think I'll keep my +2 burninator."
Rosie asks, "Anyone use greatswords?"
Clem says, "I have a weapon focus on it."
Clem says, "Greatswords, I mean."
Grog says, "Grog can use greatsword, but better with greataxe."
Grog asks, "But... +3 lots more than +1?"
[tomb] Clem says, "No, wait, my current sword is only +1."
[tomb] Clem says, "+3 greatsword would probably be better."
Rosie asks, "Well, how much better are you at axe than sword? 2?"
[tomb] Clem says, "Hmm, in fact it definitely would, with power attack."
Paulie says, "One better."
G2 has disconnected.
G2 has connected.
G2 walks the plank to adventure. Arr!
G2 has arrived.
[tomb] Paulie says, "Hmm. Y'know, I'd completely forgotten about Power Attack."
[tomb] Eolo says, "ha ha"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Anyway, if you've got the weapon focus on the greatsword, then you should probably have it."
[tomb] Clem says, "But it doesn't go on fire!"
[tomb] Clem says, "Oh well, can't have everything."
[tomb] Paulie says, "If you don't want it, then Grog will be happy to use it."
G2 has disconnected.
G2 has connected.
G2 walks the plank to adventure. Arr!
G2 has arrived.
[tomb] Clem says, "I'll take it."
Rosie tastes the potions to see if she's tasted these sorts of potions before.
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Also, did Ebezar fall asleep?"
[tomb] Clem says, "Grog already got a nice suit of armour."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "sorry, was afk for a moment"
[tomb] Paulie says, "True."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "I can do spellcraft and/or tasting on the potions"
DM says (to Rosie), "You recognize three Cure Serious Woundses, a Heroism, and a Greater Magic Fang"
[tomb] Paulie says (to Ebezar), "Schools of magic might be handy for the various auras."
Rosie says, "Hey, another fang."
Clem says, "Anybody who doesn't have a healing potion take one of those."
[tomb] Ebezar asks, "auras?"
Paulie says, "I've only got light wounds, I think. As does Grog."
[tomb] Paulie says, "From the Detect Magic you did right before going idle."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "oh ah"
Paulie says, "So we should each take one of those, if no one minds."
[tomb] Ebezar asks, "what all do we have left unidentified?"
Clem says, "Hmm, just realised I have a spare slot for another Divination today."
Clem says, "And I have all my stuff back so no problem with material components."
Clem starts preparing another one.
[tomb] Paulie says, "A ring, a rod, a staff, three or four weapons, and some potions."
[tomb] DM says, "Four potions, a ring, a rod, a staff, a spear, two longswords"
[tomb] Ebezar asks (of DM), "for the potions, I can try tasting and spellcraft, right?"
Rosie says, "Go for it."
[tomb] DM says, "Yep"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "tasting first, then. you can see my potions at http://www.phy.duke.edu/~sgranade/ebezar.txt"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Hunh, Heroism gives +2 to morale, saves, and skill checks."
[tomb] DM says, "You recognize a couple of Fly potions"
[tomb] Paulie says, "So if we decide to face the skull head on, we should probably buff before opening the wall."
[tomb] Ebezar asks, "excellent. two spellcraft checks on the remaining potions, then?"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Right."
[tomb] DM says, "All righty"
Ebezar rolls 1d20+12: 20+12 | 32
DM says, "They're both Oil of Keen Edge"
Paulie says, "Tasty."
G2 says, "you sure have a sharp tongue now"
[tomb] Paulie says (to Ebezar), "If you identify the schools for the ring, rod, and staff, we can maybe make a guess at what they might be."
[Crows-Nest] DM says, "Keep the guest jokes here please"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "will do. spellcraft for the ring, rod, staff, spear, and two longswords in order"
Ebezar rolls 1d20+12: 14+12 | 26
DM asks, "Hmm, can you use Spellcraft on random magic items?"
DM says, "I think you might need to Detect Magic again"
Ebezar says, "with the detect magic wand I can use it to detect auras"
DM says, "Yeah, okay"
[tomb] Rosie says, "I assumed that these are checks from when he cast it originally, but whichever."
DM says, "The ring has a faint aura of transmutation"
Ebezar rolls 1d20+12: 10+12 | 22
DM says, "The rod has a strong aura but you can't tell what"
Ebezar says, "Holy G'taar."
Ebezar rolls 1d20+12: 3+12 | 15
[tomb] DM says, "It is kind of silly that the stronger the aura, the harder it is to identify it"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "perhaps I am blinded by the magicalness"
[tomb] nothing_else says, "analogous to bright... yeah"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Climbing, featherfalling, jumping, or swimming for the ring."
[tomb] Clem says, "It's almost like magic is non-rational somehow."
DM says, "The staff has a moderate aura but you can't tell what"
Paulie uses a scroll on the rod.
DM asks, "A scroll of identify?"
Paulie says, "Yeah."
DM says, "It is a rod of silent metamagic"
Ebezar says, "woo"
Clem asks, "What the what?"
DM says, "Allowing you to cast spells silently three times a day"
Paulie says, "Interesting."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "it's like the silent spell feat"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "but you use it when the spell is cast, not when it's memorized"
Paulie says, "Possibly useful while invisible or hiding from undead."
Ebezar says, "not a metamagical feat I had planned on training myself in, but useful on occasion"
Clem says, "Now, only a very juvenile wizard would use this for Create Light Smell."
DM says, "Oh, it's lesser"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says (to Paulie), "or if you're hit by a silence spell"
DM says, "So only up to 3rd-level spells"
Paulie says, "Except that the main undead we're likely to face is apparently immune to spells."
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "Mmm, yeah."
[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "lets you also skip the extra spell-slot cost of using the feat"
Paulie says, "I only have up to third level spells, so I should probably take that."
Clem says, "Plus you're a bit sneaky."
Paulie says, "I try to be, yeah."
Paulie Identifies the staff next.
Clem says, "Well, you've died less than our alleged master thief."
DM says, "It's a STAFF OF FIRE"
Ebezar exclaims, "Yoink!"
Paulie asks, "Anyone want to try on the ring and see if it helps them climb something?"
[tomb] Clem asks (of DM), "By the way, are we likely to need another session here?"
[tomb] DM says, "Depends if you go back in or not"
[tomb] Clem says, "I assume we're pretty near done but maybe I'm wrong."
[tomb] Clem says, "Oh ah."
[tomb] Eolo says, "you could cast the divination spell"
[tomb] Clem says, "I was going to do that when people had finished pottering around."
[tomb] Ebezar asks, "what've we got left? the gargoyle?"
Clem casts Divination!
Clem says, "Oh great G'taar, I have for you"
[tomb] Rosie says, "I'm kind of thinking we should either quit or go equip for this particular thing."
Clem says, "a slightly different question."
Clem says, "Just tell us how to beat that skull!"
Clem says, "O god who is the best one."
Clem prays.
[tomb] Ebezar says, "I have to quit soon"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Before we go, are we interested in ID'ing these weapons, or are we generally pretty happy with what we have?"
Clem rolls 1d100: 41 | 41
[tomb] Paulie says, "We probably won't find anything as good as the +3 defender."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "my mind is my weapon"
[tomb] Paulie says, "But we might find a +2 something or other."
[tomb] Ebezar says, "that and my spellbook. and spell component pouch."
[tomb] Clem says, "Yay, now let's just hope that question is sufficiently different after all."
[tomb] Paulie exclaims (at Ebezar), "Nobody expects the Magic Inquisition!"
DM says, "CLEM"
Clem says, "He speaketh!"
[tomb] Paulie asks (of Ebezar), "How soon is soon?"
[Crows-Nest] (from Eolo) G'taar says " / PHLEGM / HAW HAW HAW *click*"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "I'd be up for another 15-30 minutes, but not another hour"
[tomb] Clem says, "Yeah, same here."
DM says, "IF YOU ARE FOOLS ENOUGH TO PROCEED"
[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "that's not g'taar, that's jack c'hiik"
DM says, "SOME OF THAT LOOT IS STUFF THAT YOU'LL NEED"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "hee hee"
[tomb] Clem says, "Ha ha ha ha."
DM says, "BUT IF MY ADVICE YOU'RE HANKERING TO HEED"
[Crows-Nest] nothing_else says, "GIVE IT UP AND GO SMOKE SOME WEED"
[Crows-Nest] Rosie exclaims, "Yay!"
DM says, "PERHAPS YOU SHOULD NOT BE QUITE SO FULL OF GREED"
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Hee hee."
Clem says, "We stand chastened, great lord! And kind of relieved also."
[Crows-Nest] G2 says, "WHAT I SAY IS ALMOST DONE / REMAINS TO SAY THAT ***YOU HAVE WON***"
DM says, "AND INSTEAD HIGH-TAIL IT BACK TO TOWN WITH ALL SPEED"
[Crows-Nest] G2 says, "or is that Zeus"
Rosie says, "That sounds good to me."
DM says, "UNLESS YOU ALL REALLY WANT TO BE ACERERAK-FEED"
Clem says, "Rich and fulsome lives to lead."
Paulie says, "Hmm."
Paulie asks, "So the implication is that we *could* possibly win?"
Clem says, "Gee, he doesn't usually go on for as long as this."
Finn says, "That's good enough for me."
Clem says, "The implication is that we should get the hell out of here."
Finn exclaims (at Kong), "Go free!"
[Crows-Nest] (from G2) DM says, "ALSO IGNORE PAULIE"
Paulie asks, "Or merely that some of this loot might help us run away after we've already been stupid enough to get half dead?"
Paulie says, "Yeah, OK. This is a pretty goot haul, really."
Clem says, "It is!"
[Crows-Nest] nothing_else says (to Clem), "THAT'S BECAUSE USUALLY I'M NOT QUITE SO T'D"
Rosie says, "Yeah."
[Crows-Nest] (from Eolo) Finn waits for Kong to get a short distance away, then flamestrikes him
DM says, "DASH DASH SPACE G'TAAR <CARRIAGE RETURN> <LINE FEED>"
Clem says, "We can distribute it among the poor!"
Rosie says, "That wall of stone was inspired."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says (to DM), "ha ha ha"
Clem says, "viz, those of us who lost all our gear inside the tomb."
[Crows-Nest] G2 says, "ha ha"
[tomb] Clem says (to DM), "HA"
[Crows-Nest] G2 says, "I am imagining the *ding* *crictch* *slide* of a typewriter"
Paulie says, "And I seem to recall that I joined this for the adventure and the loot, not for the slaying of evil or the getting slayed by evil."
[Crows-Nest] Clem asks, "But wait, G'taar uses DOS??"
Paulie says (to Clem), "Wait, you got your gear back."
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "And I worshipped that guy!"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "HIS FAITH IS SHATTERED"
Clem says (to Paulie), "Er, exactly!"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "if this is over telnet you're supposed to use \r\n as the line terminator"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "so maybe he's just converting to the standard divine network protocol"
Clem says, "With compensation for bruised pride and exposure to the elements due to nudity."
[tomb] DM says, "We were actually discussing beforehand the possibility of Clem casting Wall of Stone"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "'we'?"
Clem says, "Well, I'm headed back for town!"
[tomb] Eolo says, "us"
Finn says, "Yeah, me too. I hate this outdoorsy stuff."
[tomb] G2 says, "you know, Acererak, the gang"
Clem says, "If any of you want to try for the skull, you have both my blessings and my commiserations!"
Ebezar says, "That is fine by me."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Poll set up."
[tomb] Eolo says, "Acererak and the gang is the spinoff sequel"
Crumbli says, "I feel my time in this dungeon has been worth it simply for the potential new experiences it has opened up to me."
[tomb] Clem says, "ha ha."
[tomb] Paulie says, "For the log:"
DM says, "Ha ha poll results"
[tomb] Clem says, "Normally I'd vote to press on, but it's late and my deity told me not to and I'm LG."
[tomb] Eolo says (to Crumbli), "ha ha ha"
[tomb] Paulie | [tomb] A majority (5 and 0 abstentions) has selected: Take the loot we already have and call it a 'win'
[tomb] Paulie exclaims, "Yay, we win!"
[tomb] DM says, "Nice lootin', guys"
[tomb] G2 says, "that was quick"
[tomb] Clem says, "Sort of! Hooray!"
[tomb] Ebezar exclaims, "woo I did not die once!"
[tomb] Eolo says, "I did not expect you guys to make it to the end, let alone survive"
[tomb] Finn says, "Not too many deaths, either."
[tomb] Clem says, "Not even Acererak died."
[tomb] Eolo says, "uh, no offense"
[tomb] DM says, "What Eolo said"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Yeah, it seems like we must have done something really wrong."
[tomb] DM says, "Also you all go up a level!!"
[tomb] DM says, "if you want to use these characters again or something"
[tomb] Paulie says, "This Tomb of Horrors wasn't nearly so dangerous as I was led to expect."
[tomb] G2 says, "also, I have worked out the perfect plan for the skull"
[tomb] Crumbli says, "I still think the DM is going easy on us. No way is a mere wall of stone going to be a barrier to Acererak."
[tomb] Clem asks, "Okay, if my character officially retires to become, I dunno, an instructor at flaming sword academy, can you tell me wtf was the deal with the skull?"
[tomb] G2 says, "so if you want to go in and try that..."
[tomb] Paulie asks (of DM), "Would you be willing to list all the loot we got away with, with its value, on the forum?"
[tomb] DM says, "If you are definitely not going back in, I can answer questions and stuff"
[tomb] DM says (to Paulie), "Sure"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "I'm not convinced that was actually acererak"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Excellent."
[tomb] Clem says, "It must have been somebody pretty nasty, at least."
[tomb] Eolo says, "also, I would like to point out that although dfan seemed tough on the exterior inwardly he was agonizing about being such a hardass about the rules"
[tomb] Paulie says, "And I think we're definitely done."
[tomb] Crumbli asks, "On the way back to town we're mugged by an invisible efreet?"
[tomb] DM says (to Eolo), "Ha ha"
[tomb] DM says (to Crumbli), "Ha ha ha"
[tomb] Eolo says, "but like the hero of the pirates of penzance he is a slave to duty"
Clem says, "Actually, hey, I have a teleport left over."
[tomb] Paulie says (to Eolo), "I just wish all of that was in a secret log."
[tomb] nothing_else says, "dfan is a total tootsie pop"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "we've voted to leave, so I think we're done."
[tomb] Paulie says, "But maybe it is."
[tomb] DM says, "A few times I was like 'Oh no I can't believe they're doing that'"
[Crows-Nest] (from Eolo) Clem says "I teleport back into the skull area!"
Clem asks, "Who wants to walk to Town, and who'd prefer to voomf straight to Big City?"
[tomb] Finn | Finn went on to be severely reprimanded by his druidic order, and was last seen multiclassing in barbarian.
Paulie says, "City, please."
[tomb] G2 says, "a few times an hour, that is"
[tomb] DM says, "Ha ha"
Clem says, "Two more!"
[tomb] Crumbli says, "Dfan, there was no reason to agonize. This is the Tomb of Horrors."
[tomb] Eolo says (to Finn), "HA"
Grog exclaims, "Grog with Captain Paulie!"
Clem says, "One more!"
[tomb] nothing_else says (to Crumbli), "also, you're not on #crows-nest"
DM says, "And everyone lived happily ever after, except for 'the ranger'"
Finn says, "Oh, alright."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "So, what did we do that was really, really stupid?"
Clem VOOMF THE END
[tomb] DM says, "Uh, run through misty arches"
[tomb] Crumbli asks, "Indeed I'm not. What is #crows-nest and why should I be on it?"
[tomb] G2 says, "walk into the room with the skull before casting divination"
[tomb] DM says, "Get intentionally sucked into the demon mouth"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Well, OK. Aside from that."
Clem's pants float to the ground.
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, not let Clem cast Divination at the end"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Aside from the things Crumbli did unilaterally."
[tomb] DM says, "Sometimes it was 'Why don't they just cast Divination instead of flailing around'"
[tomb] Eolo says, "also you guys should ask what the deal is with the gargoyle and the gems"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "that was my question"
[tomb] Paulie exclaims, "Yeah!"
[tomb] DM says, "Oh yeah"
[tomb] Finn asks, "Yeah... was it just a scam?"
[tomb] Clem says, "I should have done that more, yeah, it just felt kind of lame asking for spoilers all the time."
[tomb] Ebezar asks, "what would have happened if we'd fed all the gems into it?"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Was it really just a machine for destroying treasure?"
[tomb] DM says, "You have to let it crush all ten gems"
[tomb] DM says, "And then it gives you a gem of seeing"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "How?"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "grar"
[tomb] G2 says, "an INVISIBLE gem of seeing"
[tomb] Finn says, "Oh well."
[tomb] nothing_else says (to Crumbli), "where a bunch of the meta-commentary goes, especially from non-participants. Mostly jokes, but also e.g. me asking you what the hell 'invert & telephone' is"
[tomb] Clem asks, "Was there anything in the north passage, or just a trap?"
[tomb] DM says, "How does it give it to you? It shows up in the fourth hand"
[tomb] DM asks, "Which north passage?"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "I guess we didn't need to fill all three hands to activate it?"
[tomb] Clem says, "At the end there."
[tomb] DM says, "Oh!"
[tomb] Eolo says (to DM), "past the secret door/keyhole leading to the end tomb"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "So is the skull Acererak?"
[tomb] DM says, "That leads to a one way secret door back to places you'd already been"
[tomb] (from Clem) DM says, "Oh, that, that was just the treasure room of 500,000 electrum pieces."
[tomb] Eolo says, "ha ha electrum"
[tomb] Finn says, "Demi-lich, I'd have to guess."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "And if so, why'd he just let us go?"
[tomb] DM says, "since many parties were stuck in there"
[tomb] Eolo says, "it's all the electrum they removed from d&d when 3e started"
[tomb] Paulie asks (of DM), "A one-way secret door that eats pants?"
[tomb] G2 says (to eolo), "ha ha"
[tomb] G2 asks (of Eolo), "so Accie's secret masterplan is to bring back Electrum?"
[tomb] DM says, "OK, well, this was a stupid thing in the updated edition"
[tomb] DM says, "In the original, that was Acererak"
Clem has disconnected.
Clem goes home.
[tomb] DM says, "In the updated version, it's a construct he left behind and he went to some other plane"
[tomb] Eolo says, "if Ebezar had this all to do over, I expect he would have picked spells that were more effective given that almost every monster would have spell resistance 100% or be undead"
[tomb] Finn says, "D'oh"
[tomb] Iain says (to DM), "Bah, lame."
[tomb] nothing_else asks, "actually they seem to blame that change on the module 'Return to Tomb of Horrors', which they say is pre-3rd edition?"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "How hard would the construct be to defeat?"
[tomb] Eolo says, "he went on to the Return to the Tomb of Horrors module"
[tomb] DM says, "In the original version he wouldn't even attack unless you touched him"
[tomb] DM says (to nothings), "Yeah"
[tomb] Ebezar says (to Eolo), "yeah, well"
[tomb] DM says, "Anyway, which is one reason I didn't worry more about you walling him off"
[tomb] Crumbli asks, "So the construct let us go because it was badly programmed and assumed that we weren't there if it couldn't see us?"
[tomb] Finn asks, "So what was the deal with the rolling elephant anyway?"
[tomb] DM says, "Since just deciding not to fight him was a perfectly good option in the original"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "see, I figured acererak was going to jump out at us after we beat the skull"
[tomb] Finn asks, "Did that big pool of lava go anywhere?"
[tomb] DM says, "The big pool of lava was just a trap"
[tomb] nothing_else says (to Ebezar), "haha 'after we beat the skull'"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Did we miss any substantial areas?"
[tomb] Iain asks, "Was the skull really that badass?"
[tomb] G2 says, "My big idea for the skull: trap it in a bag of holding, then throw it in the demon mouth that is a sphere of annihilation"
[tomb] DM says (to Paulie), "Nope, you pretty much saw everything"
[tomb] Ebezar says (to Eolo), "given this was my first time playing a spellcaster in 3e, I chalk it up to inexperience"
[tomb] DM says, "Except for another false entrance maybe"
[tomb] Paulie asks (of G2), "The other demon mouth is a sphere of annihilation?"
[tomb] Eolo says (to Ebezar), "yeah, and it would have been a perfectly good selection of spells against a more normal collection of monsters"
[tomb] DM says, "The first one is, yeah"
[tomb] G2 says (to Paulie), "one of them is"
[tomb] Eolo says, "the module is at http://www.wizards.com/dnd/files/Tomb_of_Horrors.zip if folks want to grab it"
[tomb] Paulie says, "I am very glad Clem picked the correct demon mouth."
[tomb] G2 says, "the... green one? I think"
[tomb] Crumbli asks, "So what do the clues mean?"
[tomb] G2 says, "the one the first riddle says "THIS COLOR IS BAD" about"
[tomb] Eolo says, "the green one at the end of the beginning corridor is the sphere of annihilation"
[tomb] Iain says, "Well, I picked the one that teleported the coin someplace."
[tomb] Iain says, "Or did I pick the other one? Gee, I forget now."
[tomb] DM says, "I did let you off the hook (mostly unintentionally) in a couple of places"
[tomb] Eolo says, "I believe one of the mouths in the pillar hallway teleports people to the room past the shields and swords, although I could be wrong"
[tomb] DM says, "There was that long pit filled with spikes that you levitated over"
[tomb] Iain says, "I assumed there was a teleporter to get past those."
[tomb] Finn says, "Anyhoo, thanks a lot for running this, DM guy."
[tomb] Iain says, "Hence the dead guy inside."
[tomb] DM says, "but if you walk through the pit, the spikes shoot up and spike you"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Oh yeah, do the statues just come to life when they leave the anti-magic room?"
[tomb] Ebezar says (to DM), "yeah, thanks -- I really enjoyed it"
[tomb] DM says, "and I should have actually made you go through that when people got teleported away and didn't have the boots"
[tomb] Paulie says (to DM), "Indeed, this was great."
baf exclaims, "Yes, thank you!"
[tomb] DM says, "Glad you had fun!"
[tomb] nothing_else says (to Paulie), "the statues have been imbued with does-nothing magic or something"
[tomb] Iain says, "Thanks for running it! And thank G'taar it's over, too."
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, the magic on them was fake"
[tomb] Paulie says (to nothings), "Ha."
[tomb] Iain says, "Bah."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Oh, what about the gems?"
[tomb] Iain asks, "Yeah, how did those turn to quartz?"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Which appeared to have an illusion on them inside of an anti-magic field?"
[tomb] Eolo says, "the gems in the fake tomb were just there to be annoying and make it be the fake tomb"
[tomb] Eolo says, "the anti-magic field had special exceptions"
[tomb] Iain says, "LAME"
[tomb] DM says, "It was a special anti-magic field, yeah"
[tomb] Paulie says (to Eolo), "Bah."
[tomb] Eolo says, "(detect magic and evil, and for the efreeti's spells to work)"
[tomb] DM says, "Oh, the big orange gem"
[tomb] Roger says, "Good thing we didn't run away back into it, then."
[tomb] DM says, "Gave you a wish"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Would the efreet have helped us if we were nice to it?"
[tomb] DM says, "But perverted it maximally and then blew up doing hundreds of points of damage"
[tomb] DM says (to Paulie), "Yep"
[tomb] K-Y says, "Oh hey it's done"
[tomb] Eolo says, "probably"
[tomb] Roger says, "I wish I had my pants back... aiiiieeeee"
[tomb] Iain says, "Ow."
[tomb] Eolo says, "it comes out hostile and you have to diplomacy it into friendliness"
[tomb] Iain says, "KABOOOPANTSOOOOOOOM"
[tomb] Paulie says (to DM), "Darn. I should have used my Diplomacy skill."
[tomb] Eolo says, "I don't know if anyone has the skill"
nothing_else goes home.
[tomb] K-Y says, "Congrats to the party and all"
[tomb] Eolo says, "ha ha"
Paulie rolls 1d20+6: 14+6 | 20
[tomb] Eolo says, "but I think once you knocked it over it's just pissed off"
G2 has disconnected.
G2 goes home.
[tomb] Iain says, "YOU FUCKERS"
[tomb] Paulie says (to Iain), "Hee."
[tomb] Ebezar says (to Eolo), "like any of us took diplomacy"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Were the pillars anything interesting?"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "but hey, we survived and gained fame and fortune"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "and pants"
[tomb] Eolo says, "the pillars were funny"
[tomb] DM says, "If you touched them you'd float up to the air currents and get blown into the demon mouth"
[tomb] Iain says, "Ow."
[tomb] nothings says, "fortunately, acererak didn't need that to get you through them"
[tomb] nothings says, "through it"
[tomb] Ebezar says, "I'm going to have to go read the module now"
[tomb] Iain says, "Heh."
[tomb] Iain says, "Yeah."
[tomb] Gunther says, "yeah, read the skull stats"
Ebezar has disconnected.
Ebezar husbands his hitpoints carefully.
[tomb] Gunther says, "you'd have had a snowball's chance in hell"
[tomb] Sargent says, "ha, glad we walled it off, then"
[tomb] Roger says, "Surely the bards will sing of this day, well, days, when a brave band of adventures defeated Acererak, or at least the guy he left to look after his house, and by defeat I mostly mean stealing a bunch of stuff."
[tomb] Gunther says, "also, hang on a second"
[tomb] Iain says, "We didn't precisely kill him but we totally looted his arse."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Anything come up on the other channel that you really wish you could have shared, and can now?"
[tomb] Gunther says, "I prepared a list of stuff that's from the Libris Mortis"
[tomb] Eolo says, "Paulie taking acid arrow was a good/lucky move"
[tomb] Gunther says, "which is referenced in the module but which dfan left out"
[tomb] Iain says, "Totally."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Yeah."
[tomb] Gunther says, "so if you're interested I can repost"
[tomb] Iain says, "I still can't believe we beat that gargoyle."
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, Acid Arrow was great against all those DR monsters"
[tomb] Gunther says, "even if you're not: http://gschmidl.googlepages.com/tomb"
[tomb] Iain says, "Or rather that Grog did."
Eolo has disconnected.
Eolo goes home.
[tomb] nothings says, "also, yes to whomever said 'because gary gygax said so'. at least in the original pre-3rd-ed version"
[tomb] inky says, "yeah, and it was also a good thing Paulie took Grog so you had a real fighter type"
[tomb] nothings says, "(re: skull imperviousness)"
[tomb] Iain says, "It's pretty suspicious that all the stuff we needed to defeat Acererak was lying around in his tomb."
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, that was kind of silly"
[tomb] Gunther says (to Iain), "ha ha, all the stuff"
[tomb] Iain says, "Unless various adventurers were way better prepared than us but fell victim to the nudification traps."
[tomb] DM says, "and added in this edition"
[tomb] Gunther says (to Iain), "all that stuff does him like 3 HP"
[tomb] Paulie says (to inky), "So really, you're basically saying that I should take full credit for this."
[tomb] inky says, "hee hee"
[tomb] Paulie asks (of inky), "And that consequently, I should get all the treasure?"
[tomb] inky says, "well, they wouldn't have made it without you, but I guess the same goes for Crumbli"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Oh, would the staff have gone off if it left the field?"
[tomb] inky says, "and Clem"
[tomb] inky says, "yes"
[tomb] inky says, "so good move not taking it out"
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, that's one place I was nice"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "So my plan *would* have worked?"
[tomb] inky says, "on the backstage channel we had some covering our eyes with our hands type moments"
[tomb] DM says, "since Crumbli was like 'OK, I take it out of the room!' and I was like 'Whoa whoa whoa, first Ebezar ID's it'"
[tomb] Iain says, "Heh."
[tomb] Iain asks (of inky), "Any you want to mention?"
[tomb] inky says (to Iain), "well, around the staff, I was thinking"
[tomb] Iain asks, "How much damage would that have done?"
[tomb] DM says, "and people doing things that stripped them of their stuff"
[tomb] inky says, "also around you casting divination or not at the end"
[tomb] inky says, "ha ha"
[tomb] inky says, "yes"
[tomb] Gunther says, "or casting divination ever"
[tomb] Iain says, "Well, I was going to cast it when people had finished doing stuff."
[tomb] Iain says, "I figured that if dfan wanted me to hurry up he'd hurry me."
[tomb] nothings says, "well, _dfan_ wanted you to hurry, but acererak didn't"
[tomb] Roger says, "Ehh, you just would have blown the roll anyway, and then we would have been impatient. So I think it all worked out.,"
[tomb] Iain says, "Huh, a specific command spell would have worked."
[tomb] Iain says, "Except I don't see how anybody could know that beforehand."
[tomb] nothings says, "yeah, it's insane"
[tomb] inky says, "yeah, I dunno, it's all pretty random"
[tomb] DM says, "That was lame, yeah"
[tomb] nothings says, "the original one is incredibly stupid"
[tomb] Gunther says, "hence the bag/sphere plan"
[tomb] nothings says, "(the original module)"
[tomb] inky says, "these spells are basically the only ones that work in the original module also"
[tomb] Iain says, "And hey look, the other scrolls do like 10hp damage each."
[tomb] DM says, "only in the original they're not even in scrolls in the final room"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "I haven't finished downloading it yet: what are you guys talking about exactly?"
[tomb] inky says, "given that the skull has DR 20/keen or vorpal weapons, it probably would have kicked your ass"
[tomb] Gunther says, "the skull"
[tomb] Iain says, "Also keen weapons and there was oil of keen weapons there."
[tomb] inky says (to Paulie), "well, it's immune to all spells except a handful"
[tomb] Roger says, "Christ on a crutch"
[tomb] Gunther asks (of Iain), "yeah, but when do you have time to identify it?"
[tomb] Iain says, "It seems like if we had read this beforehand we could probably have figured something out."
[tomb] inky says (to Paulie), "although I guess acid arrow would still have worked, since no SR"
[tomb] Iain says (to Gunther), "What? We did identify the oil."
[tomb] Sargent says, "all the SR and undead was annoying"
[tomb] Gunther says (to Iain), "not while fighting a soul-sucking skull"
[tomb] Iain says, "Wall of stone, dude."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Undead is sorta to be expected."
[tomb] Sargent says, "as I did end up being mostly useless"
[tomb] nothings says (to Iain), "well, you're still assuming you'd know that these things work, somehow"
[tomb] Sargent says, "I guess I should have gone for buffing stuff"
[tomb] Gunther says, "another plot would have been dragging the skull into the non-magic room and pounding it"
[tomb] Iain says (to nothings), "G'taar told us they'd work but not how, yeah."
[tomb] baf says, "Maybe you would have activated the scrolls blind."
[tomb] nothings says, "I mean, you had g'taars... yeah"
[tomb] Paulie says (to Sarge), "Well, you had all the Spellcraft and Arcana that no one else did."
[tomb] Sargent says, "hrm, true"
Paulie has disconnected.
Paulie goes home.
[tomb] nothings says, "Also, you're really good at shouting at things from the other room"
[tomb] nothings says, "after they're gone"
Grog has disconnected.
Grog goes home.
[tomb] inky says, "apparently some stuff that just does damage in this version was fatal in the 1e version"
[tomb] inky says, "like getting run over by the elephant golem"
[tomb] Gunther says, "wait, it was even worse in 1e? sheesh"
[tomb] Jota says, "Wow. I am glad that was changed."
[tomb] nothings says, "yeah, instadeath yay"
[tomb] Iain says, "I guess it's against the spirit of the rules to make things instantly fatal in 3e."
K-Y disappears through an invisible gap in the MUD. You think you may have heard the sounds of chatting before the gap closed again.
[tomb] Gunther says, "someone needs to bitchslap gygax across the planes"
[tomb] Iain says, "Instead you just say it does 50d6 damage."
[tomb] Roger says, "Well, cmon -- you did get smooshed flat."
[tomb] Roger says, "I'm glad it didn't run Finn over, then."
[tomb] inky says, "hee hee"
[tomb] DM says, "A lot of the old stuff had no saving throw"
[tomb] Roger says, "That whole plan was pretty ill-considered."
[tomb] Roger says, "But the old stuff even /had/ a saving throw against death! That's what it was for. Death! So, really."
[tomb] Jota asks, "If Rosie had managed to destroy it, would it have broken open like a pin~ata filled with gems and magic items?"
[tomb] nothings says (to Roger), "it would have been a reasonable plan for somebody who could fly/levitate"
[tomb] baf says, "My word. The official name of the mutant four-armed gargoyle is in fact 'mutant four-armed gargoyle'."
[tomb] nothings says, "s/plan/random idea of the moment/"
[tomb] DM says, "That's what I called it and that's what it was"
[tomb] baf says, "I thought that was just our nickname for it because we didnt' know what it was."
[tomb] Roger says, "Well, in extermis I could have Stone Shaped myself a hidey hole."
[tomb] inky says, "all the monsters in the tomb were unique"
[tomb] DM says, "Well, there was a standard mummy lord"
[tomb] DM says, "and a standard ghost"
[tomb] inky says, "oh yeah"
[tomb] Roger says, "The 4-armed gargoyle is in the 3.5e Monster Manual."
[tomb] DM says, "and a standard vat-shaped gelatinous cube"
[tomb] inky says, "hee hee"
[tomb] Jota asks, "DId all the other creatures along the corridor with the circles not exist?"
[tomb] DM says (to Roger), "What page? I don't see it in mine"
[tomb] Roger says, "Medusa and hydra etc etc"
[tomb] DM says (to Jota), "They did not, yeah"
[tomb] DM says, "I didn't realize how much the fake clues would entrance people"
[tomb] Jota says, "Fake clues? Yarr."
[tomb] DM says, "A lot of stuff seems way more obvious when you have the module in front of you"
[tomb] Roger says, "Ummm... wait; I'm sure I didn't just imagine this."
[tomb] DM says, "Well, like all the monster paintings in the hall"
[tomb] Iain says, "The whole setup was pretty annoying."
[tomb] DM says, "Oh, also"
[tomb] Iain says, "There's all this completely mysterious stuff so you have to experiment, but oh no, almost all experimentation is fatal."
[tomb] Jota asks, "What did the parchment in the collar mean?"
[tomb] DM says, "From the way you guys played, it was obvious that none of you cheated even a little"
[tomb] DM says, "So nice job with that"
[tomb] Jota says (to DM), "Ha ha."
[tomb] inky says, "ha"
[tomb] nothings says, "heh"
[tomb] DM asks (of Jota), "Yeah, I dunno, maybe that had to do with the spheres?"
[tomb] Iain says, "Thanks, I think."
[tomb] Roger says, "It wasn't particularly tempting."
[tomb] Jota says, "Unless you count looking up everything in the SRD."
[tomb] DM says, "A lot of the clues are pretty stupid"
[tomb] Jota says, "I'm still not sure what was night's good color."
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah"
[tomb] Jota says, "Or what left and left meant, if the key turned clockwise."
[tomb] inky | Go back to the tormentor or through the arch, and the second great hall you'll discover
[tomb] Roger says, "Huh; maybe I /did/ dream it. Weird."
[tomb] inky says, "you missed a portrait of the tormentor in the initial hall, I think"
[tomb] DM says, "I was surprised how many of the traps you fell into and still didn't lose anyone"
[tomb] inky asks (of Roger), "sahuagins have a four-armed form -- are you thinking of those?"
[tomb] Jota says, "Or why we needed to beware trembling hands, even."
[tomb] Iain says, "Well, I was healing like crazy all through."
[tomb] inky says, "there was a secret door in some pit (fortuitous fall) that I don't remember if you found"
[tomb] Jota says (to inky), "Who's the tormentor? I think we thought it was the four-armed mutant gargoyle."
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, also I would go 'omg Crumbli's going to completely die' and then she'd make her save and take no damage through Evasion"
[tomb] Iain says, "We spent a while looking and didn't find a door in a pit."
[tomb] Iain says, "But we probably had the wrong pit."
[tomb] Jota says (to inky), "We found a secret pit door leading deeper into the dungeon, and maybe one leading to where Crumbli or someone was stuck, IIRC."
[tomb] inky | Certain frescoes are more focused and show rooms of some building -- a library filled with many books and scrolls, a torture chamber, and a wizard?s work room.
[tomb] inky says (to Jota), "oh yeah"
[tomb] Jota asks (of inky), "So if the tormentor wasn't the gargoyle, what was the tormentor?"
[tomb] inky says, "I think the torture chamber one was the tormentor"
[tomb] baf says, "I thought we did find a door in a pit at one point"
[tomb] inky says, "I guess I don't get | DM says, "These keys and those are most important of all, and beware of"
[tomb] inky | trembling hands and what will maul."
[tomb] DM says, "The mammoth is the mauler I think"
[tomb] inky says, "that would make sense"
[tomb] (from Matthew) inky says, "because, you know, 'all' and 'maul' don't rhyme"
[tomb] DM says, "Trembling hands might be the room that shakes"
[tomb] inky says, "aha, that would make sense"
[tomb] DM says, "Because if you pull aside the curtains while the room is shaking you tear them and they turn to green slime"
[tomb] Iain says, "It's almost like Acererak didn't actually want to be defeated."
[tomb] inky says, "although it's not much of a clue for bypassing it"
[tomb] inky says, "hee hee"
[tomb] Jota says (to DM), "Which, of course, we did."
[tomb] Jota says, "It felt as though we managed to fall into practically every trap there was."
[tomb] Jota says, "With the only exceptions being the ones that we couldn't survive by being amazingly lucky and healing a lot."
[tomb] baf says, "Well, now that I know it wasn't the real Acererak at the end, I don't feel so bad about not getting killed by it."
[tomb] Iain says, "Hey, yeah."
[tomb] DM says, "Sometimes you'd get by the trap and I'd go 'phew', and then you'd get stuck up ahead and come back and set off the trap"
[tomb] inky says, "yes"
[tomb] inky says, "that was funny/sad"
[tomb] baf says, "Yup"
[tomb] Iain says, "Instead it's got to spend the next 20 years bruising its undead nogging chipping through solid granite."
[tomb] inky says, "apparently there are demons who come by and reset the tomb, but I don't get if that means they find new treasure or what"
[tomb] DM says, "Oh, you will note that I just removed room 22, because it was retarded"
[tomb] nothings says (to inky), "presumably so, given that there's a bit where they talk about failing to replace the siren"
[tomb] inky says, "oh yeah"
[tomb] baf says, "There were cases where there would be a choice of doors, and through either luck or clue interpretation we would choose the right one, but then we would get stuck later and come back and try the others."
[tomb] Jota asks, "What's room 22?"
[tomb] Iain says, "It's on page 24."
[tomb] nothings says, "the aforementioned non-siren!"
[tomb] Jota asks, "Also, were the other adventurers (and the damage to the fake tomb) real or fake?"
[tomb] Iain says, "Seems to be just a sequence of secret doors."
[tomb] Jota asks (of Iain), "What is on page 24?"
[tomb] Jota asks, "Or am I not allowed to know until it finishes downloading an hour and a half form now?"
[tomb] Iain says, "Room 22."
[tomb] Iain says, "I can't make head nor tail of room 22. There's a picture of a siren but she is not mentioned in the room description at all."
[tomb] nothings | The corridor opens into a wide room filled with
[tomb] Iain says, "It just says there's a hidden door and then another hidden door and then you're in room 24."
[tomb] nothings | The corridor opens into a wide room filled with silvery mists shot through with gold streamers.
[tomb] nothings says, "that's not my 22"
[tomb] Iain says, "Ooops, I'm looking at 23."
[tomb] nothings says, "anyway, there's a crypt chanter there to replace the siren who used to be there. crypt chanter being yet another thing from libra mortis that I don't know what it is"
[tomb] Gunther says (to nothings), "cf the link I posted"
[tomb] Iain asks, "Why not a siren?"
[tomb] Sargent says, "annoying"
[tomb] nothings says, "I'd guess to make it more fair/less annoying, for the same reason as all the other changes"
[tomb] Gunther says, "to get the GM to buy L.M."
[tomb] Jota says, "Less annoying? That's absurd."
[tomb] nothings says, "and I assume the 'who coincidentally looks the same' is just to explain them using the same art as the original"
[tomb] Iain says, "Heh, yeah."
[tomb] baf says, "So basically WotC released this module for free in order to get people to buy Libra Mortis."
[tomb] Gunther says, "There Ain't No Such Thing As A Freebie from WotC"
[tomb] Gunther says, "timing"
[tomb] nothings says (to baf), "yeah, apparently"
[tomb] Gunther says, "fortunately we tricked them through the power of scanning"
[tomb] Jota says, "We went through the Maze of Infinite Arrows. We know that the tomb was not designed to not be annoying."
[tomb] DM says, "Same with Shite Plume Mountain / Weapons of Legacy"
[tomb] DM says, "Uh, that was a typo, I swear"
[tomb] Iain says, "Ha ha."
[tomb] Iain says, "Man, 18 occurrences of 'mortis' in the text, you're not joking."
[tomb] nothings says (to Jota), "I meant in the sense of allowing saving throws and removing insta-death"
Roger disappears through an invisible gap in the MUD. You think you may have heard the sounds of chatting before the gap closed again.
[tomb] nothings says, "you're perhaps underestimating just how annoying the original was. but yeah, the libra mortis explanation may be the only explanation"
[tomb] nothings says, "libris"
[tomb] DM says, "OK, gotta go"
[tomb] DM says, "Nice job, guys"
[tomb] * NewsBoy hollers, "Extra! Extra! Gunther has posted message 48, about 'Libris Mortis stuff referenced in Tomb of Horrors', to the bulletin board! Everybody gets a car, indeed."
dfanny has disconnected.
dfanny goes home.
[tomb] Iain says, "It is totally worthwhile of them to reference another book rather than to copy the one or two paragraphs of explanation."
[tomb] Iain says, "I mean the whole scenario might have been a whole page longer!"
[tomb] nothings says, "and those pixels are expensive"
baf is like big fish impaled on ice-skating mimes.
